Welcome

Hello From Main Street When I meet someone new, they often ask me how long I’ve been in Maine. They are surprised by my answer. My family has been in Maine for eleven generations. What I’ve learned from living in Maine all my life is that the workload is easier when it is shared. As the saying goes: many hands make light work. That’s what the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce strives to do—connect the many voices and efforts of businesses in Belfast and Waldo County to promote this area and help sustain its vitality. Helping us along the way is the City of Belfast, Our Town Belfast–A Main Street Community, the Belfast Creative Coalition, and of course, our Chamber members. Working in unison, we are able to effectively spread the word about Waldo County as an extraordinary destination in Midcoast Maine. In this issue you can read about our food, “Fast & Fresh,” our sense of adventure, “Haunted Midcoast, “and even about our canine companions, “Gone to the Dogs.” We’re a quirky, wonderful mix of things. It’s in our nature to collaborate and celebrate the richness of our area. As Andrew Carnegie said about teamwork, “It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” Nowhere is that more true than right here in Belfast.

This year we recognize the efforts of another Belfast partner, Pica Design + Marketing, who is the creative team that provides the artistic inspiration and designs this magazine. We were thrilled to nominate Pica’s founder, Rob Dietz, and his team for the Governor’s Conference on Tourism Innovation and Technology Award for the design of our 2013 magazine. The magazine was published in print and is a fully interactive magazine with the free app for iPads available through the App Store. We were delighted when we received the call saying that Pica had won! We thank Pica for its ability to bring all sorts of people together to create a regional magazine that shines a light on what is truly great about this area. We hope you enjoy reading it cover to cover and discover the unique characteristics that make our county and our people so much fun to get to know. Come discover what makes Belfast the place where people love to live, work, and play. Dorothy Havey Executive Director, Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce

Windsor Chairmakers

L

ocated just six miles north of Camden on U.S. Route 1, Windsor Chairmakers has been a must-see destination for a quarter of a century. The owners, Jim and Nance Brown, have created the quintessential Yankee workshop on a historic 5-acre farmstead. The old barn now serves as the workshop, where you are invited to wander through and see one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture being made. While Windsor Chairmakers is famous for the craftsmanship and comfort of their Windsor chairs, you will also see the crew at work hand-crafting dining tables, beds, buffets, stools, benches, and custom pieces. The circa 1800 farmhouse welcomes guests to explore over 14 rooms, all decorated to showcase the furniture made on site. As you walk from room to room, you’ll enjoy the traditional furniture designs and the beauty of the time-honored finishes, an experience designed to inspire you when choosing your own custom furniture. The Shaker Gallery, an addition to the farmhouse in 2002, displays the Shaker-inspired furniture also made here. The beauty of this museum-like space and the simple and elegant lines of Shaker chairs, tables, and benches take you back to a less complicated time. The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Windsor Chairmakers invites you to come explore this special place. You can choose to purchase the perfect piece from the showroom, arrange to have a custom piece built for you, or come by just to visit. You’ll find that this business reflects Jim Brown’s philosophy about making furniture here in Maine: “Things are best kept simple.”

This long-awaited $1.5 million project ensures that Belfast’s harbor will remain accessible for everyone to enjoy for generations to come. Headed by City Planner Wayne Marshall, the harbor walk was begun, in part, because of the development of the new Front Street Shipyard. Funded by the city itself, along with state and federal agencies, the walk officially opened in November 2013. Make use of it next time you’re downtown! EET

H

umans are not the only species for whom the beautiful Midcoast represents a vast natural playground: our four-legged friends love the sights (and smells!) of the region as much as we do. And fortunately, the Belfast area is particularly canine-friendly, full of resources for and celebrations of all things canine. Lucky dogs! For example, if Rover is getting tired of doing laps around the yard or sniffing the same old fire hydrant on the corner of your street, why not expand his horizons?

As long as he’s on a leash, there are lots of local hiking trails and parks you can stroll together, including the Little River Trail, Belfast City Park and Steamboat Landing (bags and trash cans available for easy clean-up), all in or near downtown Belfast, and just beyond, Moose Point State Park up Route 1 toward Searsport, Sears Island in Searsport, and Frye Mountain in Montville. Much of the shoreline in Belfast, such as Allyn Street Beach, are open all year to dogs wanting a romp in the water. For a more free-roaming experience, the Belfast Dog Park and Searsport Shores Ocean Campground’s Dog Aquarium are safe, fenced places for dogs to explore. The volunteer-maintained Dog Park, adjacent to the ball fields and trailheads across from the YMCA, is a gift to the city from a subcommittee of the Friends of Belfast Parks, and boasts more than an acre of running space, as well as separate areas for large and small dogs. At the Campground up the road, the Dog Aquarium—for furry merdogs?—makes it easy to take your dogs with you on summer vacation, with drinking water and even a kiddie pool for overheated pups traveling with their humans. I

f, however, your inn, hotel or local hosts can’t have your beloved pet join you for some Maine coast R&R, area kennels can provide as much luxury for Fido as your accommodations do for you. Puddleduck Boarding Kennel in Morrill is overseen by dog lover Frances Plessner, who makes sure dogs get plenty of outdoor play time, walks, and even homemade biscuits. Animals can lounge around on soft futons and comfy rubber flooring at Zeke’s Dog Retreat in Swanville, and at the Canine Country Club in Northport, dogs are offered walks on wooded trails and on-site grooming services. All are just minutes from Belfast and its attractions. Since most dog parks and kennels require proof that your dog be in good health, you’re going to want to make sure Shadow is checked regularly by an animal doctor. The Belfast area has a number of veterinary options to choose from, from the emergency

services at the fully-equipped hospital at Blake Vet in Northport to the house call service available for skittish or crotchety doggies through Little River Vet Hospital, to the alternative medical care—including acupuncture, herbs and chiropractic—provided at Full Circle Holistic Veterinary Clinic. And to make sure Lady doesn’t just feel her best, but also looks her best, the ladies at Paws & Claws Pet Grooming inside Aubuchon Hardware on Route 1 will trim her nails, clip her hair, wash her, clean her ears...even try to get rid of any trace of that rendezvous with the skunk under the porch. Or you can do the dirty work yourself at one of the self-washing stations at Loyal Biscuit Co., an independent, Maine-based dog and cat boutique with a location in Reny’s Plaza

in Belfast, where you can also pick up high-quality food, toys, collars and the company’s own natural, organic Fidelis Biscuits, packaged in refillable tins. Now that your pet is all dolled up, why not show her off? It’s easy to tell how much Midcoast Mainers love our dogs by the many celebrations and

festivals we stage for them throughout the summer season. In July, the Maine Celtic Celebration along Belfast’s waterfront hosts wolfhounds, setters, collies, corgis, terriers and others as part of its Celtic Breeds Expose. Dogs and their people can take part in a parade around the grounds and then tell the crowd

about the animals and its breed’s heritage on the Steamboat Stage. For dogs who enjoy some friendly competition, those entering Camden Windjammer Festival’s Sea Dog Show in late August can vie for titles such as Longest Tail, Best Trick, and Most Unusual Name, as well as trying out the Obstacle Challenge. And to end the summer, dachshunds and their pals are feted at the annual Wienerfest in early September, a Dog Park fundraiser complete with costumed hounds, craft vendors, food, a Doxie derby and more. And if all this dog talk is making you hanker for an increase in slobbery kisses in your life, be sure to check out the wonderful animals seeking homes at PAWS Animal Adoption Center in Rockport. At this private nonprofit shelter, you can volunteer to walk dogs, take them for visits to local senior communities, or bring them to the vet. And of course, PAWS has dogs who need your love as much as you need theirs, and would love to join your family for keeps. So grab that leash and some doggie bags and set out to see the region from your dog’s perspective. He may be partially colorblind, but his eyes are wide open to the wonders of the Midcoast, and you’re bound to have a fantastic time at one another’s sides.

owntown Belfast may not have the surplus of eateries one can find in Portland or even Brunswick these days, but it certainly has a few stellar standouts: the fine vegetarian cuisine at Chase’s Daily, homemade global comfort food from Darby’s, exotic Laotian delicacies from Laan-Xang, and au courant organic dining at the newly reopened Gothic. But if you don’t have time to sit down to a lovely, leisurely meal, and instead just want to grab something quick, you can eat in your car or while window shopping along Main Street, until recently, your only options might have been the drive-through at one of the national fast food chains out on Route 3. Not anymore. There are now many local, healthy alternatives to fries, donuts and convenient store Big Gulps, all begun by ambitious (and often young) entrepreneurs who have chosen to follow a passion for nutritious, delicious food into budding careers in micro-business. And with on-site food processing now possible in our region, the area’s delicious bounty can come with us wherever we go: stashed in a tote bag for a quick snack, snuggled into the cup holder of the family car, or shipped to friends and family to give them a taste of Maine from afar. Need a whole lunch on the run? The gourmet food truck craze is big in hip locales like Brooklyn and Los Angeles, and now Midcoast Maine has a contender of its own. Good N’ You, which operates out of a shiny silver truck appropriately parked behind the green Wellness Building at 39 Main Street, is one of the most exciting recent additions to the Belfast food scene. Boasting “no

GMOs, no HFCS, no BS” (translation: all their ingredients are wholesome, real food), Good N’ You delights locals and tourists with affordable, hand-held, upscale street food from around the world. There are specials posted every day, so those in the know check the Facebook page before lining up for the

vivid hues of purple and pink, which are also colors on display in your cup when you have a drink made to order at The Juice Cellar. Brand new in 2013, the juice bar is a bit off the beaten path on the back side of the Opera House building: if you’re standing in front of the Belfast Food Co-op, look across

NO GMOS, NO HFCS, NO BS. (TRANSLATION: ALL THEIR INGREDIENTS ARE WHOLESOME, REAL FOOD) locally foraged mushroom tostadas with ricotta salata, the delectable lamb and beef gyro, the Gulf of Maine shrimp tacos with chipotle mayo, or the tofu chorizo burrito. It’s no surprise much of the town goes into mourning when proprietors Seth and Sarah close up shop for the off-season. Good N’ You often garnishes their pitas and tacos with edible flowers in

High Street and up the hill across the parking lot. The Juice Cellar was started by Chris Roberts, a Mainer who returned to his native state to make nourishing, bright-tasting raw smoothies, granola, truffles and, of course, juice. I can personally recommend the Bold As Love, a scarlet concoction made from organic (and local whenever possible) beets, apples, limes and ginger. [continued]

Seth C. Brown: Let Them Eat Cake

More healthy goodness can be found in the tubs of salsa and salads prepared by mom Julie Romano of Julie Ann’s Outrageous! Foods. Julie began her business a few years ago selling salsa at the Belfast Farmer’s Market, and has recently expanded to also make tabouli, a Lebanese grain salad whose recipe she learned from her grandmother—and which Julie Ann’s Outrageous! Foods offers in both a traditional bulgur and gluten-free quinoa version, available in the refrigerated deli section of the Co-op. Like the other companies mentioned here, Julie sources her ingredients from local farmers and makes her food in small batches. Sometimes, though, you need something a bit more decadent than salads, juice or tofu. Another Belfast mom, baker Lindsey Carver Schortz of Let Them Eat Cake, can help you out there, with artisanal cookies, brownies and

cakes made in her farmhouse kitchen steps away from the harbor. With a culinary background that includes a stint at the Four Seasons, Lindsey turns out exquisite desserts, from spicy gingerbread cake to giant chewy macaroons to

SPICY GINGERBREAD CAKE her famous brownies, made from Belgian chocolate and available to be shipped to any lucky person’s door nationwide. Her gorgeous treats are hard to pass up in their special case at the Co-op. [continued]

While you’re there, you may also want to stock up on Bixby Bars—a couple for you, a couple to share with your colleagues at work, a couple to send to your sister out West. Another recent addition to the Midcoast food scene, Bixby Bars are candy you can feel good about: they have no preservatives, are gluten-free and vegan, and mix nutritious extras like fruit and nuts into the fair-trade chocolate. This local company has a global perspective, informed by the world traveling done by young businesswoman and founder Kate McAleer, who incorporates flavors like French sea salt and Vietnamese cinnamon into the chunky little bars. Bixby is quickly taking off, garnering nominations for several national food product awards, and is even available now at Whole Foods in the food mecca of Northern California. Kate of Bixby Bars and Julie of Julie Ann’s both take advantage of the new hub for food processing in the Midcoast, Coastal Farms and Food. After several years in the works, the recently opened state-of-the-art facility is the brainchild of former Belfast City Councilor Jan Anderson, who saw a way to connect the need for regional jobs with the small farm movement in Waldo County. Now, local growers, as well as entrepreneurs like Kate and Julie, can sort, store, cook and package food right where it’s made, in Belfast. Coastal Farms and Food provides dry storage for produce like potatoes and onions, cold storage for seafood and berries, and a commercial kitchen with processing capabilities.

One other young area businessperson to take advantage of the processing facility is Jeff Wolovitz of Heiwa Tofu. A family business, Heiwa is run by local parents Jeff and his wife Maho, who make fresh tofu—and now, thanks

FRENCH SEA SALT & VIETNAMESE CINNAMON to Coastal Farms and Food, yummy soymilk—from Maine soybeans, using traditional Japanese methods. And lest you think that a block of Heiwa tofu isn’t exactly a finger food, wait till you try it fried up as crispy, mouth-watering “tofu frites” served with homemade BBQ sauce at Good N’ You this summer. See you in line at the food truck!

The story begins in 2005 for the owners of Delvino’s, Anthony Jacovino & Tina DelSanto. Anthony went to The Lookout Pub (recently renamed The Front Street Pub) to visit his friend Katherine Loblein. The visit yielded an introduction to Katherine’s business partner, Tina DelSanto. As it turns out, Anthony and Tina were both looking for apartments…you guessed it! Tina and Anthony became apartment mates and friends and fell in love. The rest is Belfast restaurant history. Fast-forward a few years to The Lookout, again, where Tina meets Bruce Thomas, another bona fide Belfast Lover. It’s 2010, and Belfast is once again going through a transformation. Bruce had recently bought a building that he knew the couple was dying to put a restaurant in. Over many months of working with Bruce, Tina and Anthony opened Delvino’s Grill & Pasta House in June of 2010.

Pan-seared local diver scallops over Mediterranean risotto at Delvino’s

In October 2011, Anthony & Tina opened their second restaurant, La Vida Mexican & Caribbean Restaurant. La Vida means “The Life” in Spanish, and that’s what they are aiming to live, The Life!

THE FOOD

Delvino’s: Stepping through the doors you might think you are in New York or Boston but you’re actually in Delvino’s Grill and Pasta House in beautiful downtown Belfast. Delvino’s is the perfect date night, family gathering, relaxing, upscale location with creative food, located in the historical downtown within walking distance from the harbor. The restaurant is in a circa 1865 brick building. Delvino’s takes advantage of everything the community has to offer: lobster and mussels harvested from our harbor, as well as produce, meats and cheeses sourced locally which add flare to an eclectic Italian menu. La Vida has local and imported foods with Mexican & Caribbean flare. The dining room, lounge and bar with real fruit cocktails and homemade foods provide an exceptionally laid-back atmosphere. Anthony and Tina transformed the space into a brightly colored spot with an enthusiastic and creative staff providing outstanding service. “We are thankful every day to be part of this community. We are delighted to have you visit us and we will take care of you in any way we can.”

“We love giving people a wonderful experience through great food, warm atmosphere, and great customer service!” —Anthony Jacovino

“We will never forget the people who have supported us along the way for the opportunity that we were given to serve Belfast and beyond.” —Tina DelSanto

THERE?

DID YOU KNOW? Maine has more than 4,600 islands There are more islands in the Maine archipelago than in the Caribbean or in Polynesia. About a third of these islands are 10 acres or more in size, and 14 are inhabited year round, mostly in Casco Bay, Penobscot Bay, and south of Mount Desert. Privately owned for conservation Although half of Maine’s islands are publicly owned, most of these are very small. Not counting Acadia National Park, federal and state agencies and conservation groups own over 1,500 islands totaling nearly 16,000 acres. This number is increasing. The other half of the islands—and most of the island acreage —is in private hands. In terms of acreage, 94% of Maine Islands are private property.

LIGHTHOUSES OF PENOBSCOT BAY 33 lighthouses dot the waters from Rockland Harbor to Blue Hill Bay. Here are a few notable ones. 1

Capt. F. Grindle, of Islesborough (1880’s spelling), was the third keeper of the light, one of the few lighthouses in Maine where summer visitors may climb to the top of the tower.

LONG ISLAND (Frenchboro) Today, about 68 people call Frenchboro on Long Island home through winters as well as summers, and 22 of them are children under the age of 12.

HOW DOES A FRESNEL LENS WORK? Imagine taking a plastic magnifying glass lens and slicing it into a hundred concentric rings (like the rings of a tree). Each ring is slightly thinner than the next and focuses the light toward the center. Now take each ring, modify it so that it’s flat on one side, and make it the same thickness as the others. To retain the rings’ ability to focus the light toward the center, the angle of each ring’s angled face will be different. Now if you stack all the rings back together, you have a Fresnel lens.

ven though it’s a sparkling, breezy summer day out by the Penobscot bay, inside the old chapel where you now stand it’s dark and still, and you can’t help but feel a shiver travel up your spine. In this very room, for over one hundred and twenty-five years, people have been communicating with the other side. Spiritualists and spiritual seekers make the pilgrimage to the camp at Temple Heights in Northport to do what you’re doing now: trying to listen to the voices on the other side of the veil that might have a message for you. You’re new to all this, though, and you need some assistance making contact. The annual supernatural summer camp has no shortage of ways to help: a rotating roster of nationally-recognized

mediums and healers are on hand to lead church services and message circles; take photographs of your aura; conduct séances; teach workshops on topics such as essential oils, shamanism and dowsing; provide bodywork services like reiki and acupuncture; or give you a private psychic consultation. You’ve always wanted a tarot card reading, so you duck into a small room with a young medium who seems to immediately know some very intimate details about your life, including a secret you haven’t yet shared with your own family. An hour later, with a recording of the reading in hand, you step back out into the sunlight and blink, marveling at the wonder of it all. Your appetite for the paranormal thus whet, you head over to the Belfast

Historical Society to research what other eerie stuff can be found in the region’s past. Megan Pinette, the Society’s president, points out that the town itself might have always been considered haunted: Passagassawakeag, the word bestowed on its river by the Native Americans who first made their homes on its banks, has been interpreted to mean “place of ghosts or spirits” or “dead man walk here,” and was so named because of unexplainable lights seen on the shores, according to Joseph Williamson’s History of Belfast. Pinette then shows you an old photograph of citizens posing on the post office steps in weird masks and costumes: these, she tells you, are the Horribles (also known as the Fantastics),

a troop of satiric performers who made appearances at local parades to challenge the status quo. She also takes you to view a black leather child’s boot, a “concealment shoe” found deep inside the closet wall of an antique Belfast home. Shoes like these were hidden as an 18th century occult ritual to block weak places in a building where evil spirits might enter; many area renovators have found similar talismans in their own walls. After a walking tour of the beautiful old (and magically shoe-protected?) houses in downtown Belfast, you hit the road to visit the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, where a recent exhibit, “For Those In Peril: Shipwrecks, Memorials, and Rescues,” highlighted spooky tales of maritime woe. The exhibit is no longer showing, but you can pick up a catalog in the gift shop and spend an afternoon “lost at sea” amidst the archives and artifacts of widow’s walks, tragic fires and wild storms, including photographs by early 20th century Belfast mayor Charles Coombs, who also worked as a taxidermist and undertaker.

the horribles As autumn rolls around, you find yourself in a deliciously macabre mood, and so you decide to investigate some of the online cemetery and genealogy websites, which list many of the old burial grounds in Waldo County. Grabbing some crayons and paper, you bike over to the Head of the Tide Cemetery by the Doak Road to do some tombstone rubbings of beautiful old gravesites, some dating back to the early 1800s. Small cemeteries dot the region in varying states of beautiful decay, some hidden down dark country roads, and make the perfect spot for you to contemplate mortality and the nature of existence.

By the time it’s October, you’re ready for some stronger stuff, so you buy tickets to the annual Fright at the Fort, always the last two Friday and Saturday nights of the month at the 19th century Fort Knox in Prospect. Even though the whole walking tour takes only about a half an hour, it feels endless—and satisfyingly horrific—as you make your way past costumed freaks and ghouls. After a bloodied zombie jumps out of the dark and tries to grab you as you squeeze up a tight stone stairway, it takes you several hours to recover your normal heart rate once you get back to your car. You join the last tours of the season—the walks are offered nightly from Memorial Day to Halloween—and are given an EMF (electromagnetic field) meter to hold as you make your way through dark alleys and empty barns. As you come around one corner with the group, you feel chilled as the needle on the meter jumps and shudders and the wind whistles among the dead leaves at your feet. Someone next to you snaps a photo with a digital camera and there in the viewfinder is an unexplainable blue and green glow. Are you in the Twilight Zone, or Waldo County? The truth is out there.

Lodging

The Youngtown Inn A Taste of France in the Camden Hills

H

ere’s the dream: As you drive down a scenic country road beside a lake, you come upon a stately white-clapboard inn. When you go inside, you immediately feel welcome. Upstairs, your bedroom is romantically decorated and more than comfortable. In the evening, you have a drink in the cozy bar before savoring a memorable meal in the charming restaurant. Here’s the reality: The Youngtown Inn. The best part is, it’s even better than the dream. Set amid rolling meadows in Lincolnville—yet just ten minutes down that beautiful lakeside road from Camden—the Youngtown Inn has fulfilled the dreams of many a traveler in the 22 years since MaryAnn and Manuel Mercier became its owners. So much so, in fact, that 56 percent of their guests return again, and the average stay is five nights. “We’ve become a tradition for many of our guests,” MaryAnn says. “One of our longtime guests told me it’s like coming home.” The Inn has also been a dream-come-true for the Merciers themselves. After meeting on a cruise ship in Europe—he was a chef, she a passenger—they married less than a year later and came to Maine to fulfill their dream of being innkeepers and restaurateurs. When they saw the Inn, they knew their search was over. Over two decades later, their enthusiasm hasn’t diminished. “It’s Utopia. Why wouldn’t you want to be here?” asks MaryAnn. Fodor’s Travel Guide agrees: They’ve named the Youngtown Inn a Fodor’s Choice eight years in a row (every place they include is deemed worth a visit, but only 15 percent receive this highest designation). The Inn has also been featured in the Boston Globe, Better Homes & Gardens, Cape Air, Brides, and other publications, and has three AAA diamonds. Marking its 204th birthday this year, the handsome Federal-style building was originally the Young family farmstead, serving as home to seven generations. The Merciers have carefully preserved its many fine features, including its gracious exterior, gorgeous pumpkin-pine floors, and numerous brick fireplaces. Warm and unpretentious, the Inn reflects its proud Down East heritage while hinting at Manuel’s native France, creating an irresistible Maine-meetsProvence atmosphere. Its six tastefully appointed guestrooms have private bath, flat-screen TV, free WiFi, and generous amenities. Some have queen canopy or sleigh beds, fireplaces, and balconies. Several decks and verandahs—perfect for morning coffee, afternoon tea, or a glass of wine—plus a gazebo and five acres make it tempting to stay right on the property. But when it’s time to explore, MaryAnn is happy to suggest not-to-be-missed activities. Selected by Outside magazine as one of 20 top dream towns, Lincolnville offers hiking (trails begin outside the Inn’s door), swimming in lakes or at Lincolnville Beach, visits to artists’ and artisans’ studios, and free wine tastings at an award-winning winery just down the road. MaryAnn can also map out daytrips to such destinations as Camden/Rockport/Rockland, Belfast, Acadia National Park, Boothbay Harbor, or the islands of Islesboro, Vinalhaven, and Monhegan. Despite all they offer, the Merciers keep lodging rates (which include a chef ’s breakfast) reasonable, especially during the quieter seasons. There are also

40 Belfast The Bay and Beyond 2014

lodging-and-dining packages to make it especially easy to enjoy an evening of fine cuisine and wines without having to drive home afterwards. Happily, those who aren’t staying at the Inn can also experience Manuel’s masterful cooking, as the restaurant is open to the public. A classically trained French chef with experience in Paris, Provence, and London, Manuel has always focused on fresh, local ingredients. “That’s the way we’ve always done it in France,” he says. “We go to market every day and shop local.” In some cases, Manuel has even asked farmers to grow ingredients just for the Inn. Offering a selection of dishes that changes seasonally, he compares planning each menu to putting on a dinner party, and loyal locals as well as visitors flock here for his creations. Specialties include local halibut poached in champagne mushroom sauce, rack of lamb with herbes de Provence, and a fluffy blueberry soufflé. In addition to the à la carte menu, there is a four-course $45 prix fixe menu. Adjacent to the restaurant is a small bar where guests may enjoy a cocktail while ordering dinner. Private dinner parties are accommodated in an intimate fireplaced dining room or a sunny enclosed porch, and a purpose-built barn is available for larger gatherings and weddings.
