L

ove, togetherness, and fidelity are some of the universal messages communicated by jewels. The serpent wound its way through 19th-century jewelry, interpreting all of these sentiments. In 1839, Queen Victoria was given a snake ring to mark her engagement to Albert, popularizing the idea that a gift of a serpent jewel was an intimate promise of eternal love. Ladies of the European nobility wore snakes as brooches, bracelets, necklaces, and finger rings throughout the 1800s, and the symbol endures today.

moon

The moon presides over every coming into being. For millennia we have been fascinated by its eternal cycling and the reassuring cadence of shadow and light. The crescent moon, in particular, is often depicted in jewelry and is one of the oldest symbols known to man. Examples are known to date back over 4000 years. Symbolically it represents the alluring promise of a beginning wherever there is an end and the promise of more light to come. sta r s

Stars stir us at the deepest levels. Twinkling in the firmament, the sheer number of them is unimaginable. Stars tell us of the infinite, yet we can look up and find the beckoning light of a single star and wish upon the possibilities of attaining our greatest dreams.
