The Festival of Business is the premier business event, showcasing and promoting the diverse business community in Hounslow and across west London, enabling our local companies to showcase their products and services, ensuring our pound is spent locally, keeping our economy strong.
Our Eighth Festival of Business is almost here! During the day we will showcase and champion business across the boroughs.
The Chamber exists to support firms, assisting them to grow and create new jobs, while at the same time encouraging new start-ups that innovate and fill the demands of the marketplace. At our Festival of Business, we give local companies a platform to demonstrate their products and services to our local economy.
Our job is to support and be the voice for business in our part of west London. We believe that when businesses are given the necessary space to grow, communities benefit from new jobs, property development and other economic activities that take shape.
The London Borough of Hounslow has a vibrant and diverse population of some 280,000 people and a business community in excess of some 18,000 companies that reflect all aspects of that diversity. London is the biggest economy in the UK and after the City of London and Canary Wharf we are the third largest economy in London. Additionally, our services now cover Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham to nearly 1m people making the area the equivalent to the UK’s seventh largest city with a GDP of £40bn.
“Thank you for arranging the Festival of Business last week, it was brilliant, I talked to lots of people, made new connections and our CEO was able to join too. He was also really impressed. There was a really good buzz around the event.”

Hounslow Council, JCDecaux UK, and the West London Chambers of Commerce announced Small Ceramics as the winner of the latest Advance for Growth business competition.
This unique programme offers a Hounslowbased small business the opportunity to receive a year of premium digital advertising space with JCDecaux UK, as well as tailored business support from the Council and the Chamber of Commerce.
The winner, Small Ceramics, was revealed at the annual West London Chambers of Commerce Business Awards 2024. This year’s prize includes a full year of digital outof-home advertising, membership to the West London Chambers of Commerce, a feature and front cover in their Let’s Talk Business magazine, and expert business mentoring from Hounslow Council.
Stefano and Daisy, Small Ceramics team, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Advance for Growth prize! This opportunity has the potential to be truly transformational for our small business, and we are so grateful.”
Small Ceramics innovative approach to pottery has earned them recognition for their potential to grow and create jobs in Hounslow.
By shrinking the pottery experience without compromising the quality of a professional pottery wheel, they have unlocked the ability for all potters to create from the comfort of their homes—eliminating the need for a dedicated studio or large space.
Through the use of 3D printing technology, Small Ceramics has successfully accelerated
their product launch timeline, enabling them to scale sustainably while reducing time-tomarket. They are now looking in extending their product line to offer even better tools for aspiring and professional potters. Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “A huge congratulations to Small Ceramics. This is an exciting moment for Hounslow as we continue to support local talent and businesses with the support they need to grow and thrive. Small Ceramics success reflects the strength of our borough’s entrepreneurial spirit, and we are proud to help them unlock their full potential.”
Runners-up, Sweat Lounge and PinkSeo, will also receive valuable mentoring and access to resources to support their business growth.
The Advance for Growth programme highlights the strength of partnerships between the Council, JC Decaux, and the West London Chambers of Commerce, fostering an environment where businesses can prosper and contribute to the borough’s wider regeneration goals.
Sally Smith, Chief Operating Officer, West London Chambers of Commerce said:
“West London Chambers is really proud to be part of the Advance for Growth competition, celebrating the diverse business community in the borough of Hounslow. We are thrilled that Small Ceramics are this year’s winners. They are a small and highly innovative company manufacturing small pottery wheels, in Brentford. They are one of the positives to come out of the pandemic. During the 2020 lockdown as keen ceramicists, they bought a cheap miniature pottery wheel online and it was not very good. So over the
next four years they designed and built their own, which they now manufacture. I can’t wait to see the advertising campaign and the front cover of our business magazine, Let’s Talk Business, congratulations to Stefano and Daisy.”
Chris Collins, Co-Chief Executive Officer at JCDecaux UK said:
“We are delighted to be working with Hounslow Council and West London Chambers of Commerce to support local businesses to scale and grow in the third year of this competition. We look forward to working with this year’s winner Small Ceramics to help them build their brand using Out-of-Home’s ability to create fame and drive business outcomes. We’ve already seen the results of the prize package of tailored business guidance and Out-of-Home advertising for our previous winners Wild Chai and Hang, and I’m excited to see Small Ceramics take their business to the next level.”

The professional world is undergoing a seismic shift, one that many companies are struggling to navigate, particularly with the emergence of Gen Z in the workforce. This generation is reshaping expectations around work, careers, and the employeremployee dynamic. To keep up, organisations must adapt their strategies to align with these changing values and priorities.
By
Gen Z has grown up in a world where stability is no longer a guarantee. From economic crises to the rapid rise of technology, their worldview is shaped by uncertainty and the need for flexibility. Unlike previous generations, they value work-life balance, purpose, and a career that reflects their diverse interests and aspirations. This shift is evident in the rise of portfolio careers—where individuals manage multiple income streams, combining traditional employment with freelance or entrepreneurial ventures.
The “Quiet Quitting” and “Great Detachment” Phenomena Movements like Quiet Quitting—where employees do only what is required without going beyond expectations—highlight Gen Z’s focus on well-being over professional ambition. Similarly, the Great Detachment, a step beyond the Great Resignation, reflects a disengagement among workers who remain employed but lack loyalty or enthusiasm for their roles.
Gallup estimates this disengagement costs the global economy over £6 trillion annually, with Gen Z and Millennials showing the sharpest declines in engagement. This lack of connection stems from outdated corporate
cultures and rigid structures that fail to resonate with younger employees who prioritise meaningful, flexible, and inclusive work environments.
Technology is both a challenge and an opportunity for companies dealing with Gen Z. The integration of AI is transforming industries, automating repetitive tasks, and creating new roles in areas like data analysis and cybersecurity. However, it also risks dehumanising workplaces and further alienating employees.
For a generation that values human connection and collaboration, the overreliance on technology can exacerbate feelings of detachment. Companies must strike a balance between leveraging AI for efficiency and fostering a workplace culture that emphasises interpersonal relationships and employee well-being.
To adapt, companies must create environments that enable Gen Z to explore diverse interests and maintain a healthy work-life balance by offering flexible schedules, hybrid work options, and opportunities for multidisciplinary career development. Prioritising mental health through supportive workplace cultures, accessible resources, and clear boundaries between work and personal life is essential, as this generation values well-being over excessive workloads.
Employers must also align with Gen Z's values by fostering inclusivity, equity, and
sustainability, demonstrating a commitment to social and environmental causes. Embracing portfolio careers by supporting side projects and freelance endeavours can attract diverse talent while enhancing creativity and job satisfaction. Lastly, while leveraging automation and AI, businesses should humanise the workplace by encouraging collaboration, communication, and face-to-face interactions to prevent alienation and build stronger connections.
The evolving workforce, shaped by the dynamics of multiple generations working side by side, challenges companies to rethink traditional models of employment.
By understanding and addressing the priorities of younger generations—such as flexibility, inclusivity, and purpose-driven work—while recognising the experience and stability brought by older generations, organisations can foster a balanced and thriving workplace culture.
In a world where careers are no longer linear and technology is transforming every aspect of work, companies that adapt will emerge stronger, more innovative, and better prepared for the future. When managers and leaders learn to leverage the unique strengths of each generation and encourage cross-generational collaboration, they build an organisation that enhances the abilities of all employees, fosters mutual learning, and drives collective success.
By understanding and addressing the priorities of younger generations—such as flexibility, inclusivity, and purpose-driven work—while recognising the experience and stability brought by older generations, organisations can foster a balanced and thriving workplace culture.

Ian Whitehead, Director of Operations at New London Educational Trust, believes being a Chamber Patron is invaluable to the Trust’s vision to connect with businesses committed to making a difference in West London. He tells Sarah Dale why.
It is West London Chambers of Commerce’s “unique platform” to raise awareness of New London Educational Trust’s mission to widen access to education which sparked the decision to join the Chamber six years ago.
Formed in 2009 and based in Hounslow, NLET is an education and employment related skills provider with the key goal of empowering learners of all ages to grow, achieve and improve their knowledge and career through training, education and employability skills.
They joined the Chamber in 2019 to connect with a network of businesses, institutions and community leaders “committed to making a difference”.
“Through our collaboration with the Chamber, we’ve supported West London residents in gaining and sustaining employment and provided upskilling opportunities for employees of local businesses,” explains Ian Whitehead, Director of Operations.
“The Chamber offers a unique platform to raise awareness of our mission among employers/businesses to widen access to education and employment support for under-represented groups and collaborate with organisations that share our goals.
“Being a Patron has been transformative. The networking opportunities have allowed us to form valuable relationships with local businesses and stakeholders who support our cause.
“The support from Sally Smith and Alan Rides at the Chamber has been immeasurable; their enthusiasm and dedication to supporting businesses in West London is inspiring. Whether providing guidance, acting as a sounding board, or creating collaborative opportunities, their contributions have been invaluable. Chamber events have provided a platform to share our vision, while their promotion has elevated our profile in the community. These connections and collaborative efforts are so helpful in expanding our programmes and reach.”
Ian advises new Chamber members to get involved with the business community by attending events, engaging in conversations and openly sharing their goals and challenges.
“The Chamber is a vibrant community, and the more you participate, the more value you’ll gain,” he adds.
“Don’t hesitate to leverage the Chamber’s resources and expertise, they are there to support you, so make the most of every opportunity.”
and supporting education and health services to underprivileged young people).
“Our collaboration will see us become the UK centre for the university and will include student exchange programmes, research and knowledge-sharing initiatives, and higher education projects in partnership with UK institutions.”
They are also one of the largest exam centres in the region administering exams from GCSE/A-Level through to university admissions tests and a wide range of professional services exams.
“Being a Patron has been transformative. The networking opportunities have allowed us to form valuable relationships with local businesses and stakeholders who support our cause.“
The NLET team is proud that so many residents it has supported over the years have progressed into higher education and moving forward, the aim is to strengthen partnerships with universities and higher education institutions to “create innovative programmes that address barriers to HE for under-represented groups”.
“We are in discussions with UK universities that share our values and are excited about developing these partnerships with the ongoing support of the Chamber,” says Ian.
“We are also delighted to announce a unique collaboration with ISBM University India, who provide higher education opportunities for vulnerable communities. We share a similar mission and ethos with ISBM University, which was founded by the Alpha Foundation (an NGO committed to funding
The biggest challenge the Trust has is securing consistent funding to expand its programmes and initiatives. As an educational charity, it relies on partnerships and financial support, often through Government contracts, to serve under-represented groups. However, reduced Government funding and growing competition from private providers, including international entities, have made navigating their sector “increasingly difficult”.
“The Chamber can help by connecting us with businesses and individuals passionate about education, employability support, and social impact,” he says.
“Additionally, advocacy for the importance of widening participation in higher education and promoting our new initiatives among universities and business leaders would be invaluable.”
New London Educational Trust is also hoping to expand the team and resources.
“We are exploring new collaborative projects aligned with our mission, enabling us to deepen our impact locally while broadening our reach further afield,” he adds.

Tracy Aust, CEO and Principal of West Thames College, talks to Sarah Dale about the impact of the Budget on Further Education, the college’s exciting plans for 2025 and beyond, and why skills and collaboration with the community are integral to students’ success posteducation.
Students and staff alike have started 2025 on a high following the news that Ofsted has rated West Thames College Outstanding following its latest inspection.
As part of Further Education colleges’ full enhanced inspections, Ofsted cover in detail the college’s contribution to meeting skills needs and for this, West Thames was rated as Strong, which is the highest possible rating.
CEO and Principal Tracy Aust said: “We’re really pleased that Ofsted recognised the Strong contribution we make to meeting regional and national skills needs and in the Ofsted report, they highlight that we are:’proactive and respected partners who play a lead role in the local borough and across west London.’ They noted our ‘well -established, strong strategic partnerships’, and how well we ‘align the content of the curriculums closely to the regional and national skills needs’ and the fact that we codesign our courses with employers through structures such as our ‘effective employer advisory boards.’
“The feedback really showcases how well we work with our partners and stakeholders and it has only served to consolidate the fact that we are an important anchor institution, serving our fantastically diverse communities.
“Skills are a really important part of our core business as a college and through highly effective collaboration we are able to make a real difference.” We worked very closely on the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), with a particular focus on West London and we have aligned our curriculum to key priority sectors including: creative, health and care, digital, green skills and logistics. These sectors sit as part of our broader offer, which covers 25 different curriculum areas, including ESOL, English and maths.
“The priority sector of Logistics has been a real focus for us and we are the lead across West London. With funding from the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF), we were able to carry out a feasibility study, with a number of
the recommendations already implemented, including the creation of our Logistics Skills + Careers Hub in Feltham. This was launched in October 2024 and plays a pivotal role in addressing the skills gaps within the logistics sector. The hub not only trains students but also fosters collaboration between education, business, and the wider community. Our Logistics Employer Board is an important strand of this. By working closely with logistics employers, we are able to help them recruit to those hard-to-fill vacancies whilst simultaneously supporting local economic productivity and growth.”
The college is also celebrating other successes, not least in winning the League of their Own Award at the West London Chambers Business Awards in recognition of its commitment to excellence in education and community engagement.
“This was incredibly important to us as the Chamber is such a key and valued partner,” says Tracy.
“Alan Rides is a college Governor, and through our strong partnership with Alan, Sally and the Chamber Team, we are able to connect education, skills and businesses and collaborate to meet local and regional needs. We have been able to provide the Chamber with an apprentice to help support their business growth by passing on part of our apprenticeship levy and we are currently in the process of doing the same for the charity, Hounslow’s Promise, who are co-located with us, alongside the Chamber.
“We do a lot of networking with Chamber employers which has been incredibly valuable and has had a direct and positive impact on our students. This includes members being part of our Employer Advisory Boards, informing and co-creating curriculum, the delivery of master classes, work placements and taking part in our annual employer event – Aspire, to name just a few.
“We recognise that in Hounslow, 88 per cent of businesses are micro businesses or SMEs
and for us, it is really important that we work with our local businesses to address skills needs and tackle recruitment challenges. Our work with the Chamber is critical to that.”
Although the college has a lot to be happy about, Tracy says, like other FE colleges, funding remains a key challenge. One of the biggest challenges as a result of insufficient funding is the impact on staff recruitment. “There is a ‘massive funding gap’ between FE and other elements of the education sector. For example, an FE lecturer earns around £9,000 less than a schoolteacher.
“It’s not only about academic achievement, it’s also ensuring that our students have the skills they need to progress to their next step and ultimately into the world of work.”
“In August when a 5.5 per cent pay award was funded for school teachers, this was not provided for FE,” adds Tracy. “This was incredibly disappointing, given the significant role that colleges play in skills and economic growth.
“On the positive, the rise in NI contributions announced in the Autumn Budget, we know the Government is going to fund most of this. At the same time, the Autumn Budget announced a £300 million injection into sixth forms and colleges, which we really welcomed. However, whilst this will bring some benefit, it’s going to take more than this to reverse the decades of underinvestment in FE, both for 16-18-year olds and adults. In addition, we know that we are expecting a further 5% increase in the number of 16-18year olds between now and 2028, on top of the 13% growth in 16-18 numbers that we’ve already seen in 2018-2024.
“We are really hoping to see some long-term investment in FE in the upcoming Spending Review but we know that with competing priorities for public funding this is going to be a challenge.”
A challenge for the education sector as a whole, is the rise in the number of students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
“This is a priority area for us,” she says. “We are a highly inclusive organisation and in our recent Ofsted Inspection we were graded as Outstanding for this provision. We are working closely with our Local Authority (Hounslow) to ensure that we can meet the growing demand by providing a high-quality curriculum that enables our SEND students to develop their vocational, employability and independence skills.
“Work is already well underway with this, with our Employability Hub for our young people with educational healthcare plans (EHCP) preparing them for the world of work and through the creation of our Independence Hub, phase 2 of which is due to open in September 2025. This will enable our young people to gain the independent living skills they need, in part through the creation of a simulated flat for independent living.
“Ambition and high expectations for all are core values of what we do as a college.
“I always say to students, ‘If you attend, you will achieve’ but that doesn’t go far enough,” she adds.
“It’s not only about academic achievement, it’s also ensuring that our students have the skills they need to progress to their next step and ultimately into the world of work. That’s why we have chosen to invest in skills, not just the technical and vocational skills but also the transferrable, employability and life skills. All of our full-time students have an Employability Coach and numerous opportunities to engage with employers.
We know that many people no longer have a career for life, so those wider skills are increasingly important.”
West Thames College was awarded the matrix Standard in recognition of the outstanding quality of its Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) services in September. This accolade underscores the college’s ongoing commitment to supporting students not only in their academic pursuits but also in their personal development and career goals.
“I am very proud of our students, our staff, our governors and our partners and in what we achieve together. As a college, we are much more than qualifications (although we do that very well, being the Number 1 College in London for the past 2 years and top 3% nationally), we provide our students with the skills they need to progress, we support social mobility, community cohesion, economic prosperity and play a pivotal role as an anchor institution in the local community.”
“The team feels happier because they know that they’re somewhere that values them,” said Phill Elston, operations director of London Living Wage employer, Brompton.
Making 100,000 bicycles each year, Brompton has been operating from Greenford and shipping globally since 2015.
Since 2020, Brompton has been paying its staff at least the London Living Wage - an hourly rate of pay currently set at £13.85 and calculated based on what people need to live in the capital.
Being accredited is good for business.
Ealing Council offers a great range of benefits to local employers who sign up to become accredited, including free access to employee training and business support programmes, grants to cover costs, and free recruitment services.
Every penny helps
Gitesh Vaghela and Anna Komorowska have both been employed by Brompton for about 4 years. Gitesh enjoys his job and the challenges. When asked about being paid fairly, Gitesh said:
“Being paid the London Living Wage helps to pay my bills and I can put some money aside for my kids’ futures. Every penny helps.”
Anna likes working for Brompton because it’s convenient for her and enables her to spend time with her family. She said:
“Life is expensive now. Being paid the London Living Wage allows me to live in London. I can save money so I can fly home to visit my family in Poland, which is really important for me.”
Attract better talent
Phill thinks being an accredited employer makes Brompton more efficient. He added: “Offering the London Living Wage is a great reason for a potential employee to come and look at what we do.
“By being accredited, you can change how your staff live their lives and make sure you reward them fairly. You’ll attract better talent and will retain that talent - people will stay with you and, in turn, understand the purpose of the business that little bit better.”
A great time to get accredited Ealing Council leader Peter Mason said: “There are plenty of reasons to pay the London Living Wage, which benefit both employers and their employees. With our generous incentive scheme, it’s a great time to get your business accredited. There are now more than 75 accredited employers in our borough, and we will continue to support them so our residents can access the decent living incomes they deserve and in turn have happier, more comfortable lives.”
Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, the council’s cabinet member for decent living incomes, said: “It was great to speak to Brompton employees and hear about how the London Living Wage has helped them and their families. The company wants to make sure that all of their staff are paid fairly for the work that they do, and from talking to Anna and Gitesh, their quality of life is better for it. The experiences of these Brompton employees show that paying the London Living Wage improves recruitment, staff retention, and productivity.”

At a glittering ceremony hosted by Discover Fulham at the Mercure & Ibis Earls Court, over 100 guests including Her Worshipful The Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Councillor Patricia Quigley, celebrated the winners of the Discover Fulham Business Awards 2024.
During a month-long campaign to recognise business excellence in the Fulham Broadway BID area, businesses were invited to nominate their business across ten categories to show support for the town centre and to acknowledge the vibrant and diverse business community.
The event was also used to raise awareness and over £600 for local charity Dads House, who run a foodbank, provide legal support and social support for single fathers, their children and families.

Venture X White City, which is next to the unmissable Westfield London and regularly hosts events for West London Chambers of Commerce, is in a surprisingly vibrant area far from limited to the shopping centre alone. White City itself is the home of the world- famous BBC, and part of Imperial College London. The area also hosted a stadium built for the 1908 Olympic games, which held many events over the years, including one game at the 1966 World Cup, (which as we all know England eventually went on to win), before being eventually demolished in 1985.
Westfield has a lot to offer, from huge department stores to more specialist shops. A lot of the lower level is populated by designer shops, where it can be very fun to gawp at the insanely overpriced items.
Meanwhile, Westfield London was opened back in 2008, at the time the largest covered shopping centre in London, and by 2018 after extensions it became the UK’s (and Europe’s) largest shopping centre by size. Home to over 300 separate shops, Westfield London is worthy of a day out in its own right, containing a large food court and stores of many varieties.
So, should you find yourself working in the fabulous Venture X White City (nudge nudge), what does that mean for you? What sort of places are around to eat, and what can you do if you have spare time here?
Put simply, you’re quite spoiled for choice in this area. Westfield itself is obviously home to a large variety of restaurants, both inside within the food court or along the building’s perimeter, but other areas around the Venture X White City location offer other options that are definitely kinder on the wallet, usually from independent businesses. We couldn’t possibly list all the good options around the area short of writing a novel, so it’s up to you to do some research given how much is on offer. However, here are four top suggestions, two of which the author has been to!
Good steak in London is very hard to come by without paying the city’s very high prices. Flat Iron is a small chain that sought to end this – they tend to only offer one cut of beef, the namesake flat iron, but do it very well and for a more reasonable price. Their fries and sauces aren’t too shabby, either. Flat Iron can be found on the exterior of Westfield shopping centre.
For more affordable grub from an independent store, look no further than Liz Cafe. Located on Goldhawk Road, not too far from Venture X White City, this humble cafe serves the best of British food, from fry ups to eggs benedict. Liz Cafe is one of many great eateries on Goldhawk Road, so make sure to give others a check too! Like Liz Cafe, most others tend to be very friendly and affordable places.
Pho:
One of many possible picks from the Westfield food court area, Pho offers… pho. You know, Vietnamese noodle soup – among other things, of course. It’s fantastic stuff as well – not too filling to the point you feel bloated, just right, and the advantage of foods like pho is the ability to customise what goes in. Like the other food court options, Pho offers great and quick food albeit at a higher cost than what you might find outside Westfield.
Ayam Zaman:
Located near Shepherd’s Bush Market, on Uxbridge Road, the highly rated Ayam Zaman offers a selection of affordable Middle Eastern food in a casual setting. The restaurant is well decorated with an exposed brick dining room, and definitely worth a visit if you want something different that isn’t available in Westfield.
In the area? Or have some free time in your lunch break? Here are some top picks for what you can do.
Shepherd’s Bush Market:
110 years old and home to a diverse range of sellers, Shepherd’s Bush Market is absolutely worth taking a stroll through. You can buy weird and wonderful gifts here that you certainly wouldn’t find in the more commercialised Westfield, as well as fresh produce. Shepherd’s Bush Market is not one of London’s largest markets, but it is a hidden gem in its own right.
Moonshot Social
(formerly known as Sixes Social Cricket):
Imagine a restaurant, but with indoor baseball! Located in Westfield, near Shepherd’s Bush Central Line/Overground stations, and formerly an indoor cricket facility, it has now morphed into baseball. Best in small groups, simply book a slot and turn up. Compete against each other where one at a time, a machine will bowl soft balls at you. The food served within Moonshot isn’t bad, either. Puttshack offers a similar concept also within Westfield, just this time with crazy golf, as the name implies.
All Star Lanes:
The upmarket bowling alley, based in Westfield London Shopping Centre, not only offers the chance to compete with your family and friends at ten pin bowling, but also houses a restaurant, bar and even karaoke! Westfield shops:
The most obvious one, isn’t it? Westfield has a lot to offer, from huge department stores to more specialist shops. A lot of the lower level is populated by designer shops, where it can be very fun to gawp at the insanely overpriced items.
So, if we have managed to convince you of the location, then what about our office space in Westfield, White City? Well, not to worry – click here for what a membership can offer you! And of course, should you have any questions or would like a free viewing, feel free to contact us here.
If you own or manage a retail or hospitality business, you’ll be more than aware of the industry’s rapid evolution, driven by shifting consumer expectations, technological advancements, and a growing focus on sustainability. In this dynamic environment, having a well-trained, adaptable workforce and finding the right staff quickly is essential for success.
West London Retail Skills Hub is designed to help businesses tackle these challenges, offering a valuable resource for recruiting and upskilling staff. By providing targeted training and support, the Hub helps businesses enhance their teams’ capabilities and remain competitive in an ever-changing market.
Located at Westfield London, next to John Lewis & Partners, West London Retail Skills Hub is a collaboration between West London College, Spark! and Westfield London, with support from Ethos Farm, Inspire ATA, West London Business, and the West London Chambers of Commerce.
Opened in September 2024, the Hub was developed in response to the West London Local Skills Improvement Plan, which identified the need for focused training in the retail sector. By offering specialist training and recruitment services, the Hub supports businesses across the region in addressing skills gaps while providing jobseekers with opportunities to start or grow their retail careers.
Offering a range of services, from bespoke training programs to recruitment support, one of the Hub’s key features is its ability to design custom training sessions tailored to specific business needs. A range of pre-made options is also available, including distance
learning courses that staff can study at their own pace. Courses such as Equality and Diversity, Mental Health First Aid, and Team Leading are all available to help businesses upskill their teams. Investing in staff not only improves performance and customer experience but increases retention and positively impacts workplace culture. The Hub also functions as a recruitment platform, connecting businesses with jobready candidates. It can help you advertise vacancies and pre-screen applicants who have already received training, allowing businesses to access skilled talent ready to hit the ground running.
Katie Wyle, Head of Shopping Centre Management at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said: “We are thrilled to announce the opening of the new Retail Skills Hub at Westfield London, which represents a significant step forward in redefining retail as a dynamic and rewarding career path.”
Karen Redhead OBE, CEO & Principal of West London College, added: “West London College is proud to be a key partner in the West London Retail Skills Hub. This initiative opens up invaluable opportunities for the community to gain essential skills for a

thriving career in retail. By working with local businesses, the Hub helps inspire economic success through high-quality education and skills development.”
Matt Lent, CEO of Spark!, highlighted how the Hub supports young people entering the retail workforce. “This resource is a game changer for both retailers and young people, connecting employers with future talent and creating employability skills and pathways into rewarding careers.”
In addition to training and recruitment service, West London Retail Skills Hub offers its three studio spaces for hire, ideal for workshops and meetings. Each comes equipped with interactive digital boards, available at competitive prices, with flexible seating options to suit your needs.
West London Chambers ran an event at the end of January at the West London Retail Skills Hub, where about 25 businesses learnt more about the work of the Hub. From a show of hands, most in the room started their working life in the retail/hospitality sector. It would be good to encourage more to stay in those sectors, and initiatives such as the Retail Skills Hub can only help.
For businesses, the benefits of engaging with West London Retail Skills Hub are clear. It offers a unique opportunity to upskill staff, as well as access to a pipeline of new talent. WEST Youth Zone is a stateof-the-art youth centre at the heart of White City, dedicated to providing young people with a safe and exciting space, where they know they can find trusted youth workers they can rely on. Opened in April 2024, WEST offers young people across West London somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to – 52 weeks a year.
Despite White City’s thriving business scene, many of its residential areas remain among the most deprived in the capital. Located strategically, WEST serves young people from 50% of London’s most disadvantaged wards, ensuring local young people have access to the same opportunities as their peers across the city.
Built as part of EdCity and with support from Hammersmith and Fulham Council, WEST is a 3 storey purpose-built space designed by young people, for young people.
As part of the national OnSide network, WEST empowers young people to build confidence, develop essential skills, and lead happier, healthier lives. Every session offers over 20 activities – from learning musical instruments and scaling their climbing wall to developing key life skills in our training kitchen. They also provide quiet study spaces with laptops to support education outside of school hours.
Their doors are open to all young people aged 8 to 19 (or up to 25 for those with additional needs), with specialist sessions like ‘Just for Girls’ and ‘Beyond’ for young people with additional needs. Membership is just £5 a year, with entry only 50p per visit – but no one is ever turned away if they cannot afford the session on the day. Their membership costs primarily exist not to raise funds, but rather to foster a feeling of ownership and belonging to the Youth Zone, which improves young person engagement. To further support those facing food
insecurity, WEST serves hot meals for just £1 and has provided over 1,300 free meals during colder months through the support of their patrons.
The impact of Youth Zones is clear: as demonstrated by recent OnSide research, for every £1 invested, there is a £13 social return, from improved mental and physical health to increased employability and stronger communities. Beyond the minor contributions from members’ fees, WEST’s funding relies entirely on philanthropic and corporate support.
Their business partners do more than donate, they actively engage through corporate
volunteering, employee fundraising, and creating meaningful opportunities for young people. By investing in WEST, businesses can directly contribute to breaking down barriers and unlocking the potential of White City’s next generation.
White City is a community full of promise and by supporting WEST Youth Zone you can help ensure that every young person has the confidence and skills to untap their full potential. Join WEST in helping shape a brighter future.

A Uyghur woman arrived in the UK and immediately applied for refugee status after fleeing persecution in China. With no money, job, or friends in the UK, she ended up spending the night sitting on her luggage in the reception area of her hostel, terrified at the prospect of sleeping rough.
She then found The Upper Room’s phone number online and gave us a call. We welcomed her in, and through our services, UR4M (The Upper Room Meals service) ensured she had food and a place to stay. A visiting caseworker from Glass Door, a charity supporting homeless individuals, helped her secure housing in a female-only shared flat in Shepherd’s Bush. Mike, our Administrator, worked with her to curate her CV and encouraged her to distribute it around Westfield.
A few days later, Sephora invited her for an interview and offered her a job. She started working there and recently, she came back with a cake to say thank you to The Upper Room for all the support we provided during her time of need. www.theupperroom.org.uk
The WILDE Foundation (TWF), the host of the WILDE Hammersmith and Fulham Writers’ Festival, has been named the overall winner of the prestigious CLBS Business Expo Award, an accolade presented by the University of West London to recognise trailblazing achievements in business.
The award was announced at the second CLBS Business Expo, held on October 30, 2024, which showcased the achievements of small businesses, organisations, and charities from across London.
The WILDE Foundation, a London-based charity dedicated to empowering women and girls through creative outlets, launched the Hammersmith and Fulham Writers’ Festival in 2021. The festival was inspired by the absence of a local platform for creative expression in the West London area. It provides an inclusive space to showcase female and indie authors and has quickly become a highlight of the literary calendar, attracting celebrated authors and poets from around the world. This year, participants hailed from as far afield as Cardiff, Nigeria, and the USA.
Reflecting on the journey, Rasheda Malcolm, author and founder of the festival, shared, “Our writing group transitioned online in 2020 due to the Covid-19 lockdown, and what emerged was an outpouring of creativity from women across our community. This festival has become an important outlet for that talent, and receiving the CLBS Business Expo Award is a powerful recognition of our growth and impact.”
The CLBS Business Expo, led by Mohammad Waqar Abbasi, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at the University of West London, honours organisations that embody innovation, sustainability, inclusiveness, and commercial viability. Abbasi commended TWF, saying, “The WILDE Foundation exemplifies what it means to be a trailblazer in today’s business landscape. Their outstanding commitment to innovation, sustainability, inclusiveness, job creation, and commercial viability sets a new standard. We are incredibly proud to recognise them as our Enterprise of the Year 2024. Congratulations to The WILDE Foundation—here’s to continued success and impactful collaboration!”
This award underscores The WILDE Foundation’s remarkable journey and its ongoing commitment to nurturing creativity and empowering women. The recognition is a significant milestone that paves the way for the festival’s future growth and outreach, as it continues to champion the voices of women and indie authors in and beyond the UK.

more small businesses to find an adviser and a clear path towards growth.”
“As a long-standing member of the West London Chamber of Commerce, I’ve experienced firsthand how local business communities can drive success,” Laura noted. “The Chamber’s support has been invaluable in helping us understand and serve London businesses better, making this award even more meaningful. This award is also a testament to the power of local business communities in fostering success”.
West London Chambers took over the running of Safer Business Hounslow about 10 years ago. SBH started as a short circuit radio scheme, covering the town centres of Hounslow and Feltham, linking businesses with the Police, the local shopping centre CCTV and the borough wide CCTV centres, and of course with each other.
During the pandemic the role of SBH widened in that we employed Marshals to patrol the two town centres to ensure that businesses understood the regulations, which were fast changing. The Marshals were backed up by the Chamber team, including our Health and Safety Director, whose expertise was invaluable during the pandemic and the various shutdowns. Remember those distancing rules, the rule of six, sitting outside with vast distances between tables!
Those days seem a distant memory now the retailers are back open, and businesses are trading, but with the cost-of-living crisis, energy and mortgage costs increasing, business on our high streets can be challenging.
Shoplifting and anti-social behaviour is a challenge for traders and town centres alike. Far from being a victimless crime, shoplifting increases insurance premiums for retailers with costs being passed on to consumers. Business related crime also includes staff harassment, property damage, and vandalism.
Crime Reduction Partnerships have gained popularity because preventing crime is more effective than clearing up after it, and because perceptions of safety directly impact on people wanting to visit their town centre. Local community police have been cut back, so the role of the SBH marshals has grown ever more important. They run daily radio checks, sharing information with shop owners. Sharing information is key to the success of crime reduction partnerships. It brings results and everyone benefits, including the local community. The Marshals report anti-social behaviour on a weekly basis to the local Police. Owing to the decreased number of Police and what is seen as their ‘lack of interest’, shop lifting and other criminal offences are often not reported, but via SBH the Police are aware of what is happening on our two high streets. It is so important to report crime, if it is not reported then it is not logged, so is not seen. The less crime reported, the fewer Police officers. And thus the vicious circle continues.
Shoplifting and anti-social behaviour is a challenge for traders and town centres alike. Far from being a victimless crime, shoplifting increases insurance premiums for retailers with costs being passed on to consumers. Business related crime also includes staff harassment, property damage, and vandalism.
But SBH is working to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. In the spring we will be introducing a Yellow Card scheme, officially known as an Exclusion Scheme. Every shop, Public House, restaurant, or private business has the legal right to refuse a person entry to their premises or use of their services. Safer Business Hounslow will operate a collective Exclusion Scheme which means if you are banned by one member, you are banned by them ALL!
A YELLOW CARD can be issued by any scheme member and can be verbal or in writing (though will be followed up in writing wherever possible) to any individual(s) who misbehaves in or near their business. There is no requirement for formal Police standard evidence; this will be based upon the evidence of the Scheme Member witnessing the behaviour.
Following the award of the Yellow Card warning, a photograph of the offender and details of the incident will be shared with fellow scheme members. Partner Agencies such as the Police (including Police CCTV) and Local Authorities will also be advised of the incident for information and intelligence purposes.
Any individual who receives a second/third Yellow Card within a 12-month period will be considered for a Ban from using the services of all Safe Members, including Pubs, Clubs, Restaurants, Shops, Bus Services, Taxis and Private Hire Cabs to name but a few.
STRAIGHT RED On the rare occasions where an individual’s behaviour falls well below the expected standard, they may be issued a
Straight Red Card and immediately banned for the services of all members, examples of straight red would be assault on staff members or police.
Holland & Barratts and New Look say they feel reassured by the presence of the SBH Marshals. The Manager at Natural Valley Clothing is really ‘happy with the support from the Marshals’ and there is a thumbs up from the Guard at Beauty Base.
Another exciting initiative is a BID (Business Improvement District) for the Hounslow High Street and surrounding area. Business Improvement Districts are business led partnerships which are created through a ballot process to deliver additional services to local businesses. All our neighbouring boroughs have a number of BIDs. West London Chambers works closely with Acton BID, Ealing BID, Fulham Broadway BID, Hammersmith & Fulham BID. Hounslow borough is a rarity in not having any BIDs. They can be a powerful tool for directly involving local businesses in local activities and allow the business community and local authorities to work together to improve the local trading environment.
A Business Improvement District is a defined area in which a levy is charged on all eligible business rate payers in addition to the business rates bill. This levy is used to develop projects which will benefit businesses in the local area.
There is no limit on what projects or services can be provided through a Business
Improvement District. The only requirement is that it should be something that is in addition to services provided by local authorities. Improvements may include, but are not limited to, extra safety/security, cleansing and environmental measures. SBH and West London Chambers will be working on the preparations for the ballot process, again in the spring.
We have carried out a Feasibility study which has thrown up many concerns, the major being the level of anti-social behaviour, shoplifting, theft etc which obviously affects footfall. The two words most chosen to describe Hounslow are: dirty and unsafe. This needs to be tackled. If people do not feel safe, they will stop using their local high streets and they will decline further. Alongside the SBH Marshals, a BID can only help the Hounslow area.
“Business Improvement Districts can drive economic growth, enhance public spaces and foster vibrant and thriving communities. With more than 340 BIDs in the UK, generating more than £150 million in levy annually, they are a proven mechanic in delivering real change for businesses and their trading environment. In an increasingly competitive market, a BID could help Hounslow remain a vibrant and attractive destination, driving footfall and fostering a sense of community pride.”
Lucy Stanford - BID Project Manager
The funding for SBH comes from the local authority, and the private sector, working together in partnership: We would very much like to thank our private sector sponsors:

Safer Business Hounslow (SBH) is an initiative that Russell Finex has sponsored for the last seven years. The overall focus of this initiative started with the aim of making Hounslow Borough a safer place to work, shop, and invest in. Since 2020 and the COVID
pandemic the scheme has expanded even further, going on to help companies through the economic downturn that continues to severely affect the high-street.
Safer Business Hounslow and the West London Chambers of Commerce have been able to assist over hundreds of companies, due in no small part to its sponsorships of companies such as Russell Finex. The company’s ongoing support is vital to help businesses and local employees stay safe in their communities.
Russell Finex’s Chairman Ray Singh commented: “Sponsoring local initiatives like Safer Business Hounslow is crucial, especially during difficult times which are adversely affecting many businesses. Chamber member, Artisanal wallpaper and fabric design company Marthe Armitage is celebrating a double success: the release of its newest collection just as one of its original designs became an award winner.
The design ‘Lobby’ was announced as the winner of the Home & Gardens Design Award for Best Printed Fabric, as the design was included in the Marthe Armitage’s new Polychrome Collection of nine fabrics.
The new collection uses three of Marthe Armitage’s original designs from their archives. Lobby, Passionflower and Old Man’s Beard have been rendered for the first time on fabric, each in three colourways. The
company has re-mastered the lino block designs for screen printing using Marthe’s own method of hand printing, by overlaying two colours to produce a combined colour. In the 1950s, when Marthe Armitage started producing her intricate, botanical patterns, she initially had to print the large lino blocks on the floor. The blocks were cumbersome, and the repeating patterns were complex, so she limited herself to just one colour. She did, however, attempt one multi-coloured design, Lobby, using three blocks to create five colours. She printed just enough sheets to paper the garden lobby at her Georgian home in Chiswick before giving up due to its difficulty. Many years later, Marthe’s daughter Jo wondered if screen printing the design on fabric would be a way to bring to life the beautiful half tones and rich texture of the original multi-coloured floor-printed paper, with its dense, saturated colour – and the idea of a Polychrome Collection was born. The newest collection was photographed in Chiswick House, a favourite place of Marthe’s throughout her life. The classical interior of the house, says the company, provides the perfect backdrop for these “timeless, vibrant fabrics”.
Marthe Armitage Prints showroom and studio is open to the public on Fridays (other days by appointment). For information, visit www.marthearmitage.co.uk.

Chiswick-based security firm safeguards the site of iconic Banksy Goat at Kew Bridge during restoration
Kingfisher SEC, a Chiswick-based company and a trusted name in professional security services, was recently entrusted with protecting the site of the iconic Banksy artwork, the “Goat,” at Kew Bridge. Since its appearance in August 2024, the piece has become a beloved symbol of the local community.
Following the decision to dismantle the artwork for restoration—a move that sparked mixed reactions among locals— Kingfisher SEC mobilized its security team within just a few hours of booking confirmation. The team ensured the safety of the wall and surrounding premises throughout the delicate removal process. The building remained secure under Kingfisher SEC’s watchful eye, even as the beloved artwork started its journey to Carlisle for restoration.
“Protecting such a significant location was both a privilege and a responsibility,” said Ash for Kingfisher SEC. “We understand the emotional connection this community has with the Banksy Goat.”
As the Goat embarks on its restoration journey, Kingfisher SEC remains committed to supporting the West London community by safeguarding its landmarks and cultural treasures.
I am one of the local community who relished having a local Banksy. It is so sad that the Banksy goat has gone – I hope it will come back.

How long have you worked for the Chamber?
I have worked with the Chamber for over 10 years and been part of our small friendly team for five years. We work smartly and closely together and I enjoy the challenges that arise each day as no two days are the same. I work from home but appreciate feeling part of the team, coming to London for the flagship events. It is always good to see Chamber members in the flesh!
What do you do? Describe a ‘typical’ day.
I am responsible for sales and sponsorship for main events at the Chamber, such as the Business Awards, the Golf charity day and of course our two Festivals of Business. I enjoy building rapport with our sponsors and speaking to new companies about the benefits of being part of the Chamber. I also helped promote the recent international trade visit to Morocco and am helping raise private sponsorship for Safer Business Hounslow.
Career path so far?
Prior to joing the Chamber I worked for over 25 years as a sales manager in newspapers. It was a challenging, varied and fast-paced role which prepared me well for my current role.
What has been your proudest moment?
In my newspapers days, it was running a successful sales team and achieving targets. Today, it’s finding a new sponsor for the Chamber.
Do you have a favourite event?
Yes, the Business Awards, which is the largest event and takes a great deal of planning and preparation from the whole team and beyond. It is a huge challenge, but the event has been a great success during my time at the Chamber. It is always enjoyable to be involved in and very satisfying when the event has gone well.
When you are away from the office, what you do enjoy doing?
With eight grandchildren I sometimes rather wish I was back in the office! I am writing this at the end of a busy half term week!
I enjoy building rapport with our sponsors and speaking to new companies about the benefits of being part of the Chamber. I also helped promote the recent international trade visit to Morocco and am helping raise private sponsorship for Safer Business Hounslow.
It was recently the fifth anniversary of Brexit and two-fifths (41 per cent) of exporters disagree that the Brexit deal is helping them grow sales, according to new research.
Almost half (46 per cent) of businesses surveyed want the Government to make it easier for UK staff to work in the EU.
The British Chambers of Commerce’s Insight Unit, which carried out the research, found that SME exporters have faced an uphill struggle to sell goods and services in Europe as paperwork and costs have ballooned –and only 14 per cent think the deal is helping them to grow.
Trade with the EU is covered by the Trade and Co-operation Agreement (TCA) which was agreed on Christmas Eve in 2020, almost 11 months after the UK left. It allows tariff-free trade with the EU but requires British and EU firms to produce documentation and paperwork for all shipments. Services access is also limited by rules on business mobility.
Companies say the biggest barriers to exporting to the EU are customs procedures and documentation (45 per cent), export documentation (39 per cent), regulations and standards (35 per cent) and tariffs (33 per cent).
Awareness of upcoming changes in trade rules and regulations being made by either the UK or the EU are also very low, with more than three quarters of firms knowing no details of much of the legislation. This includes knowledge of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), Safety and Security Declaration Requirements and new rules on business-tobusiness movements of parcels to Northern Ireland.

The BCC’s TCA Four Years On report sets out 26 recommendations to improve UK-EU trade.
Among its top proposals for discussions in 2025 are:
Negotiate a deal with the EU which either eliminates or reduces the complexity of exporting food for SMEs.
Produce a balanced Youth Mobility scheme between the UK and EU, covering school visits and exchanges, and a timelimited ability to work for young people.
Rejoin the Pan-EuroMediterranean (PEM) convention to align rules on raw material and components that can be used in exports without incurring tariffs.
Establish a supplementary deal, like Norway’s, that exempts smaller firms from the requirement to have a fiscal representative for VAT in the EU.
Make a deal to allow UK firms to travel and work for longer in Europe and vice versa, and provide mutual recognition of professional qualifications.
Link the Emissions Trading Schemes of the UK and EU to avoid charges on carbon embedded in exports in both directions.
William Bain, Head of Trade Policy at the BCC, said: “Over the past five years, UK businesses have shown resilience, agility and creativity in responding to the biggest change in our international trading relationships in 50 years. But the fact remains that we are the only G7 nation yet to regain its pre-pandemic level of trade intensity.
“Two issues where there appears to be some promise of a meeting halfway are around linking Emissions Trading Schemes and rejoining the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean (PEM) Convention on rules of origin.
“Linking the emission schemes, which cover the amount of greenhouse gases embedded in products, is possible within the current framework of the TCA. It would reduce the risk of UK exports of steel, aluminium, hydrogen and fertilisers facing additional charges.”
The BCC has also been calling for the UK to rejoin the PEM Convention for over two years.
“This would allow UK manufacturers to integrate their supply chains more easily, while still avoiding tariffs, by sourcing inputs from across a wide zone of more than 50 countries,” he added.
“Many firms were unaware of this convention, when we were previously a member inside the EU, but the BCC’s Chamber Network has been advising on how to make use of it for years.
“Business is ambitious for change, and we believe 2025 is a key moment to improve and deepen our most important trading relationship in the world.
“There is no time to lose. Firms are being held back by a complex web of red tape and regulatory burdens. This is ramping up costs, so improving our trading relationship with the EU could provide the impetus to growth needed to transform the dour outlook many are facing.”
Alan Rides, Chief Executive of West London Chambers added:
“As tariffs loom, the UK’s old alliances and Free Trade Agreement that have been signed recently will become more important than ever. The UK economy is built on trade, it drives growth, nurtures jobs and can lift people out of poverty. As we commemorate this year, 80 years since VE day, we should learn the lessons that history has taught us. The UK needs a better trading agreement that works with the EU. We have signed agreements all over the world, especially with Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and our links with the Commonwealth will stand us in good stead, but we are not at the core of a large trading block, or is our future to become the 51st state?”
For help with your exports and imports, please be in touch with your government award-winning Chamber delivering the best support for export in the UK.

One of our directors was invited to 10 Downing Street: congratulations Shankar. And questions from the Chamber were asked to the Chancellor in HM Treasury about issues that affect business in West London by Tony Mulvahill, Business Adviser, the day before the Heathrow announcement!
Our first month back in the new year has been a very busy one for International Trade, starting with a business breakfast talking about trade with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
We have been asked by one of our members to be involved finding partners in a huge Meditech investment in the Middle East.
After initial meetings at UWL last year one of our members is growing his business in Oman and is looking to help other members who are interested in this new market.
Following this, we have a joint cooperation with UWL to develop an international trade program with them.
Our ties with France are very close now with our attendance at the British French Chamber monthly meetings.
One of our members requested that I fly to Istanbul to help them at a large event they hosted to open a local college.
Following up on our trade mission to Morocco in November, we visited Russell Finex to shoot a reel on their successful Trade Mission visit to Morocco. We then visited the Moroccan Ambassador to report on our progress with Gill Associates, Hampton Brands and Gethsemane.
I then took part in a Libyan government delegation reception to help SKS Tools with their export business.
To finish the month, I attended the British Uzbek Society meeting at their Embassy, and was interviewed on Uzbek TV talking up trade with West London.
We have something to keep the whole family active and entertained including:
• State-of-the-art gym
• Sports hall
• Fitness studios
• Floodlit 3G pitches
• Floodlit tennis courts
• Football, cricket and rugby pitches

The digital battlefield is shifting fast. As businesses embrace AI, 5G, and hyper-connectivity, cybercriminals are evolving just as rapidly, weaponizing automation, exploiting vulnerabilities, and leveraging ransomware-as-a-service to turn hacking into a booming industry.
So, how do businesses stay ahead? The answer lies in understanding the forces shaping cybersecurity in 2025 and taking proactive, strategic action. Let’s dive into the key trends that will define this year’s cyber landscape.
1. AI and Machine Learning: Cybersecurity’s Secret Weapon
Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer just a buzzword, it is becoming an essential shield against cyber threats. Expect AI-powered tools to:
• Detect anomalies before they turn into fullscale attacks
• Automate threat response, minimizing damage in real-time
• Continuously learn from new threats to strengthen defences
Cybercriminals aren’t sitting idle, though they are using AI, too. Deepfake phishing and AI-powered attacks will surge in 2025, making AI-driven defence not just an advantage, but a necessity.
2. Zero Trust Goes from Trend to Standard
The old-school “castle and moat” security model is dead. In a world of remote work, cloud computing, and hybrid infrastructures, trust is a liability.
Enter Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), a model built on “never trust, always verify.” Organisations will:
• Implement multi-factor authentication (MFA) at every access point
• Use micro-segmentation to limit the spread of breaches
• Continuously monitor for suspicious behaviour, even from trusted users
• In 2025, Zero Trust isn’t optional, it is the essential gold standard.
3. The 5G & IoT Explosion: A New Security Challenge
Faster networks and smart devices bring incredible opportunities, but they also create massive attack surfaces. With billions of interconnected devices, hackers have more entry points than ever.
To stay secure, businesses need to:
• Strengthen endpoint security for every connected device
• Implement encrypted communications to protect sensitive data
• Deploy AI-driven monitoring to detect abnormal IoT activity
Without these defences, IoT and 5G could become a hacker’s playground.
4. Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS): Cybercrime Goes Mainstream
Hacking is now a business model and RaaS is making ransomware attacks accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
Expect to see:
• More sophisticated, automated ransomware attacks targeting businesses of all sizes
• Attackers demanding multi-million-dollar ransoms in cryptocurrency
• AI-powered phishing campaigns luring employees into opening the wrong email
To fight back, companies must:
Implement real-time threat detection to stop attacks early
• Regularly back up data and test recovery strategies
• Train employees to spot social engineering attacks
Cybercriminals are not slowing down and neither should your defences.
5. Compliance Crackdowns:
The Regulatory Heat is On
Governments worldwide are tightening cybersecurity laws, and businesses that fall behind will pay the price... literally.
Expect:
• Tougher fines for data breaches
• Stricter reporting requirements for cyber incidents
• Supply chain security regulations to ensure third-party vendors are not weak links
• In 2025, compliance isn’t just a checkbox, it’s a survival strategy.

The Biggest Cybersecurity Challenges of 2025
While innovation is moving forward, businesses still face major hurdles:
• Sophisticated Threat Actors.
Nation-state hackers and cybercrime groups are using AI-powered attacks to outsmart defences.
The Cybersecurity Skills Gap.
A shortage of skilled professionals leaves companies vulnerable to attacks.
Budget Constraints.
SMEs struggle to balance security investments with limited resources.
Supply Chain Vulnerabilities.
Third-party providers introduce risks that hackers love to exploit.
How Businesses Can Stay Ahead
If 2025 is the year cybercrime levels up, it must be the year businesses level up, too.
Here’s how:
• Embrace AI & Automation – Use AI-driven security tools to predict and neutralize threats.
• Invest in Talent & Training – Your employees are your first line of defence. Make sure they’re ready.
Adopt a Zero Trust Mindset – Assume every user, device, and connection could be a threat.
• Stay Compliant – Keep up with evolving cybersecurity regulations to avoid penalties.
Conclusion:
The Future Belongs to the Cyber-Prepared Businesses
Cybersecurity in 2025 is not just about defence, it is about resilience.
The organisations that invest in cutting-edge technologies, develop cyber-aware teams, and embrace proactive security strategies will be the ones that thrive in an increasingly hostile digital world.
As the saying goes, “The best defence is a strong offense.”
At Timeless IMS, we help businesses build that offense with weekly cybersecurity training designed to keep your team one step ahead of cyber threats. Want to assess your team’s cyber readiness? Building a workplace culture that prioritises joy, wellbeing, and engagement isn’t just a trend - it’s essential for longterm success.
Employees today are looking for more than just a wage slip; they want to feel valued, supported, and happy at work. A positive culture where fun is encouraged leads to higher engagement, better productivity, and increased retention.
So, how can businesses foster this kind of culture? With all the buzz around AI, simple, free tools like ChatGPT can be a gamechanger, acting as your in-house Employee Wellbeing Adviser. Even beginners can use ChatGPT to quickly and easily generate ideas to improve wellbeing in their workplace.
Here are three great ways business leaders or team managers can use ChatGPT to build a happy, motivated workplace:
1. Discover what your team really thinks about you with an employee feedback survey: ChatGPT can generate quick, tailored survey questions to gauge employee satisfaction and wellbeing, allowing managers to address concerns in real-time and make adjustments where needed.
2. AI-driven Wellness Action Plans: ChatGPT can help create actionable, personalised wellness plans for each team member.
For example, after gathering feedback, you can use ChatGPT to suggest stress-relief activities, productivity tips, or mindfulness exercises tailored to individual needs, improving team satisfaction and overall health.
3. Recognition and Motivation: As a manager, you can use ChatGPT to craft personalised recognition messages, ensuring employees feel appreciated for their efforts. Regular, thoughtful recognition boosts morale, strengthens relationships, and fosters a culture of positivity and motivation.

We see a significant gap in local mental health support. Currently, we hear that many people in Hounslow are waiting months for help - or being turned away.
They are turning to us. Unless we secure a sponsor, benefactor, or additional funding now, Anchor Counselling will be forced to close - at a time when demand is higher than ever, with economic pressures adding to the crisis. For over a decade, we partnered with West London NHS Trust, as the key provider of free ‘NHS’ counselling to over 1,000 Hounslow residents annually - with waiting times of just 2–4 weeks. In 2023, the NHS Hounslow contract was awarded to Connect Health Ltd, a profitable private company.
Feelings of low mood, isolation, and stress can arise at any time but may linger after the colder, darker months. As we move into spring, it’s important to take proactive steps to reconnect, re-energise, and break the cycle.

The Chancellor’s vow to go “further and faster” than previous governments to deliver growth has been welcomed by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
In a speech on 29th January, Rachel Reeves made a series of announcements including the confirmation of the Government’s support for a third runway at Heathrow Airport, a vow to build “Europe’s Silicon Valley between Oxford and Cambridge” and nine new reservoirs, and to redevelop Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium.
Alan Rides said in his SKY interview immediately after the announcement
“The Chancellors’ historic announcement, to support a new runway at Heathrow, the first full length runway in the South for 70 years, will be a springboard for economic growth across the whole of West London and the UK.
“This will bring private sector funding to create around 100,000 new jobs in all industries and is simply historic.
Acknowledging that there will be winners and losers, and all need to be looked after, this once-in-a-lifetime project could be the spark that delivers growth to the whole of the UK economy.
“With Heathrow being the only UK hub airport, this will also help all of the UK for both passengers and cargo (70% of UK air cargo is via Heathrow, which also makes Heathrow the UK’s biggest port by value)
“Many of the companies based around West London are international PLCs, others homebuilders, exporters and cargo and logistics companies. They will all be seeing huge benefits from this, so let’s get behind the project to invest in the UK infrastructure for growth.”
Shevaun Haviland, Director General of the BCC, said: "The Chancellor has laid down a clear marker on her intent to push for growth and these proposals can light the blue touchpaper to fire up the UK economy.
“Expanding our international airport capacity, investing in modern roads and railways, and rebalancing the planning system all send signals that the UK is building for a better future.
“These pledges will make businesses and international investors sit up and take notice. They can lift the gloom that has settled over the economy and give firms real confidence.
“We must also use this moment as a springboard to develop further ambitions around large scale infrastructure. Projects like Sizewell C, additional elements of Northern Powerhouse Rail, the Ely/Haughley rail junctions and the Rampion 2 windfarm must also be greenlit.”
She added that “well-planned, financially and environmentally sustainable” infrastructure programmes boost competitiveness, create jobs and generate lasting economic benefits for regions and the whole country.
“They increase capacity and reduce journey times, forge stronger business connections, expand labour markets and create opportunities for millions,” she said.
“They are a massive stimulus to their local economies.
“They support the obvious industries — construction, manufacturing and logistics
“Many of the companies based around West London are international PLCs, others homebuilders, exporters and cargo and logistics companies. They will all be seeing huge benefits from this, so let’s get behind the project to invest in the UK infrastructure for growth.”
— but they also feed into retail, hospitality for visiting workers and technical support.
“While projects on this scale may take years to complete their economic impact is much more immediate.
“They give firms involved in their supply chains real confidence to start planning and making their own investment decisions.
“But we must make sure the reality does not fall short of the promise. We must have action to back up the words and make sure this commitment sticks. That means getting on with these projects as soon as possible and delivering them quickly and effectively.
“Many firms will have the HS2 debacle in the back of their minds, so we need continued engagement from Government on problemsolving and support to keep these projects on track.
“With many businesses struggling with increasing costs, these proposals must also be backed up by business rates reform, better export support and an employment rights package that works for firms.”
A Dragon’s Den style pitch event saw six businesses vie for the top spot in front of five local dragons.
Sisters Jasmine and Alicia of Wild Chai won the final of the Hounslow Business First programme.
They plan to expand their Chai line and launch in more retail stores. As the winners, they won £2,500 plus six-month free mentorship with CPG to the value of £2,500, one year of free membership to the West London Chambers of Commerce and one year’s free membership to the Digital Dock.
Aris from Birria Brothers, which offers halal Mexican food to local university students, is planning to expand to a food truck. As runner up, they won three months’ free business support with CPG to the value of £1,250, one year of free membership at West London Chambers, plus a dinner for two kindly provided by Sam’s Waterside in Brentford.
The other finalists were Natalie Coleshill, CoFounder of Healthroam, which strives to offer healthcare professionals real-time access to data; Charles Sayer, Founder of Play Your Tunes, a membership platform designed to help songwriters gain recognition for their original music and earn income from their
Cosmin Lungu, of Dream Studio 97, which provides premium rental spaces and mentorship for hair and beauty specialists; and Rocio Chpoun, of Laser Clinic Hounslow, an experienced aesthetician whose mission is to provide affordable, professional aesthetic treatments. They each won a year’s free membership of West London Chambers of Commerce.
The Dragons judging the pitches were: Cllr Dan Bowring, Syon & Brentford Lock, Hounslow Council; Alan Rides, CEO West London Chambers of Commerce; Tracy Aust, CEO & Principal, West Thames College; Kurt Edwards, Business Specialist, Sky TV; and Robert Clasper, Development & Partnerships Director, JCDecaux.
