Mason Espendez Mason has been a member of the Stewart Club since 2011. During those 10 years, he has participated in many Boys & Girls Club programs and events. He considers his involvement in the ‘Better to Give’ program to be one of the most impactful programs for him. In this program, he and his fellow teens would perform community service hours as a means to earn “money” for gifts that were to be given to families in need. This was just one of many programs that have taught Mason the importance of giving back. Mason has also sought out opportunities to volunteer outside of the Club, such as supporting the food bank, donating time at an animal shelter, packing up gifts for foster care children, and assisting with a women’s self-defense class. These experiences have helped shape Mason into a kind and thoughtful young man.

Spencer D. & Mary Jane Stewart Branch Age 17 Senior Western School of Science & Technology

Mason is currently a senior at Western School of Science & Technology. He is proud of his academic achievements and continued success in his advanced placement courses. Mason aspires to be an engineer, more specifically a Sustainable Civil Engineer. While Mason doesn’t claim any sport as a favorite, he enjoys all of them. He is always looking to stay active whether it is through working out, boxing, or practicing Tae Kwon Do. He has earned his first-degree black belt! He also enjoys listening to music and cooking/trying new foods. Q: Who would you like to have dinner with and why? I would like to have dinner with my older brother, Zakory. I would choose to have dinner with him because he is serving in the Navy now. We are going to be apart for quite some time. When we have family dinner with him, I will talk with him and rejoice over our accomplishments, as well as reminisce about our past while stuffing down a bunch of scrumptious foods. Q: What advice would you give to young people about joining the Club? A piece of advice that I would give future youth thinking about getting a membership is that the beginning is always the hardest. Adapting to a new environment is not always easy, however, the positive influences that the Club will provide will make the journey much easier.
