JUNE 2022 ISSUE

Message Hi, BCK!! Thank you for taking the time to read my message and look over this month's newsletter!!! This is your historian, Emily Velasquez! How are you guys doing? Summer vacation has finally arrived! But don’t worry, Key Club is not going away for the summer, so please come join us in future service opportunities and fundraising. I strongly encourage you all to attend and invite a friend. Key Club is all about both service and socializing. I am looking forward to seeing you guys there and growing a closer connection with you all. I wish everyone a wonderful summer and want to thank you for being a part of our club. BKC would not be BKC without our lovely members and board. I am truly grateful to you.

What’s SWINGING BKC?!! My name is Elize Dizon and I proudly serve as your President for the 2022-2023 term!! In the month of May, Bellflower Key Club has been jam-packed with events to keep our members busy during the term!! We had many service events, fundraisers, and even a social to welcome the new term!! I’m very thankful for all the opportunities we had to host events with our school’s counseling staff and events outside of BKC as well. I’m proud of all my members for still staying active even though finals and AP exams were well underway! Thank you to all of you for staying active and I hope you have a fun and restful summer break!! Be on the lookout for Key Club events during the summer! Swingin’ for Service,

Bellflower Key Club President

General Meeting’s

During the month of May Bellflower Key Club hosted two General Meetings that were both held at lunch in room 210. One took place on Friday, May 7th. We discussed upcoming events and announced our remind for the new term. The general meeting on Friday, May 27th, however, was more of a recap of the events that took place earlier that month and to distribute senior medallions.

On Thursday, May 19th, Bellflower Key Club hosted an on-campus social after the school day had ended. This social was held with the purpose of creating and strengthening the bonds between our officers and general members For this event, we chose a Pokemon theme, which explains the name of the. social "Gotta Catch That Officer: Meet The Board Social''. Once the event began, everyone enjoyed eating pizza provided by the non-profit organization, Red Cross, while socializing with one another. After this, we all participated in games such as Soulmates and Speed Dating, to become more familiar with each other. During the closing parts of the social, we sat in a circle and discussed topics ranging from our Key Club experience to who our favorite music artists were. Overall, the event was very enjoyable and tons of fun. The goal was definitely accomplished

DCM May DCM took place on Saturday, May 21st, at Bellflower Kiwanis Hall with the theme “Spelling Bee.” It consisted of all Division 13 North clubs getting together and going over the accomplishments made in the past month. After club updates, including old and new business, awards for the month were announced. Our secretary, Italy Escobar Dubon, was recognized as Officer of The Month on the division level! The new DLT for the term was also announced. Justin Arizmendi, our Public Relations Vice President, will be one half of the Head Spirit Coordinator, and Alena Jaramillo, an active member of our club, will be the Member Recognition Chair. Once all announcements were made, members got into pairs and worked on making alphabet flash cards for kids. 9

Awesome 80s Run is one of our biggest service events over the summer in which key club members can volunteer during a marathon run! This event took place in Long Beach on Saturday, June 12th. Having two different shifts that lasted almost four hours each, combining to a total of seven and a half hours. During the event, we had the chance to assist stands giving out energy drinks, helped runners sign up, and cheered them on as they ran. Awesome 80s Run was an amazing experience, and I highly recommend similar events such as Aloha Run to all newcomers getting into Key Club this summer! Isaiah Sangkay 10
