Zombie Horde Descends on Wasaga Beach .....Central Ontario ATV Club Fights Back!
A Zombie Horde descended on Wasaga Beach and on April 9th Central Ontario ATV club with fellow ATV’ers and Side by Side Riders took a stand. The fight started at the Central Ontario ATV club house, the battle ground was throughout Wasaga Beach. The battle took us from the COATV club house to Wasaga Beach Paintball then to Sturgeon Point Marina then to Wild Wings Wasaga Beach to Grandmas Beach Treats continuing on to Pita Palace then next to J&R Cycle followed by Canadian Tire Wasaga Beach to the new Wasaga Beach Fire Hall and finally back to the COATV club house. in Wasaga Beach.
Money Raised During Zombie Hunt Goes Toward Purchase of a Polaris Rescue Ranger for the Wasaga Beach Fire Department. Wasaga Beach Zombie Apocalypse. COATV club hosted a Zombie Hunt in Wasaga Beach on April 9th. Participants drove through Wasaga Beach, hunting down the Zombies stopping off at pre-checked out safe zones where the hunters rested and found out what Wasaga Beach has to offer. Prizes were offered to those who found the most Zombies.
Some of these places were cleared of Zombies before the hunt and other places the club could not get to. We lost some good ATV’ers and Side by Side Riders that day. They were avenged, the day was won by the humans. I don’t think that will be the last time we will see the undead. One Zombie, believed to be the leader, yelled “ the undead will have their day, we will return” as she shuffled into the shadows. “Like” Central Ontario ATV club’s Facebook page for updates on the Zombie problem in Wasaga Beach. Celebrating Love with a Wedding Show! Celebrating Love with a Wedding Show! Wedding season is upon us let's celebrate love with a bridal fashion show “It'z Your Day Charity Spring Soiree” presented by It'z Your Wedding Day Event and Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique in support of My Friend's House in Collingwood, Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 at the Westin Trillium House at Blue Mountain. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the fashion show at 7:30 p.m. A beautiful soiree is planned for brides and grooms allowing guests to mingle with wedding vendors showcased in “It'z Your Day Wedding Guide” published locally in Collingwood by editor in chief, Amanda Jerome. This publication is a great local magazine supporting professionals in the wedding industry. Many local fashion retailers will be displaying their best collections to inspire your next wedding outfit for Mother of the Bride & Groom, Bridesmaids & Groomsmen, Flower Girls, Ring Bearers and Guests. This is their third show for Amanda Jerome and Tara Klein. “It gets bigger every season, however the focus is on the charity no as much as the wedding exhibition. It's more of a cocktail evening event meander through the Charity Silent Auction while Oliver & Bonacini at Blue Mountain entertains your palette with scrumptious canapés paired with Georgian Hills Vineyard's Prosecco. Enjoy and relax without feeling pressured,” said Tara Klein, Executive Director and Owner of Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique. Amanda and Tara want the brides and grooms to feel comfortable at their show while meeting with the vendors like a dinner party welcoming you to their home. “Tables will be set up for weddings with center pieces, dinner set, you get to see what they do best. The caterer will serve hors d'oeuvres, you will taste the food you would be serving at your wedding,” expressed Klein.
The bridal fashion show presented by Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique begins at 7:30 p.m. Tara will be featuring some of her designer's collections from her shop such as Maggie Sottero, Sottero & Midgley, Stella York, Venus Bridals, Wtoo by Watters and Mia Solano. Bridal dresses for Spring/Summer 2016 are off the shoulders with spaghetti straps making a come back. “Many brides are asking for straps on the dresses not as many strapless. They are looking for something different they haven't seen before. I always try to find unique styles. Vintage is still very popular we have an amber dress in the store,” said Klein. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at itzyourday.com or at Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique. All proceeds will be going to My Friend's House in Collingwood. Tara mentioned that a lot of women in the wedding industry and other clients have used this great resource over the years. At My Friend's House, abused women and those at risk of violence and their children will find emergency shelter and a wide range of support services. Vibrant communities have a brand message that is made up of origin, a set of beliefs, setting, symbols, and action that attracts people and commerce that makes for a dynamic community. We are talking about a community throbbing with energy or activity, buzz and liveliness. Some people say it must be in the water that they are drinking. A vibrant community means that it has spirit-shared values, trust in one’s neighbours, and confidence in a vision filled with hope and dreams. A vibrant community nurtures beehives of activities, a network of commerce, culture and opportunity that fires imaginations and has gravitational pull. It develops a culture, a dignity and a way of life that is intensely emotional and spiritually gratifying, to the point where people feel content and happy. Its residents believe they could never live anywhere else. Vibrant communities have vibrant belief systems. Once this system is constructed, it attracts people who share those beliefs. These people, in turn, develop a deep-skin sense of community that mere streets and buildings cannot account for. These belief systems determine how people feel about a place when deciding where to live, work and play. So what does it take? People. It takes people who are empowered to make a difference in the town’s culture, its community of communities, its environment, its social circles and its economy. Where do we find these people? Right here in Wasaga Beach. Meet Terry Cantin. Retired, active and deeply committed to make our community a great community. He and his wife Kathy are role model citizens that care about this community. Terry was one of the first people to volunteer to sell tickets for the Wasaga Film Festival events. He was very active during the municipal elections helping get the message out and meeting voters for several of the candidates. You will find Terry and Kathy supporting many town events, out there participating and helping make it happen. When Terry submitted a film for the Wasaga Film Festival it was a culmination of his film and video work put together to promote all of Wasaga Beach attractions, events and places of business. “We don't have any photos of us at functions we put in our film submission because we are always too busy taking pictures of others when we are at these events” says Terry. When it comes to innovative ideas for the town, Terry is never at a loss to suggest great things for our community. Given his life experience and travel he suggests that our beachfront developments should be like an entertainment deck on a cruise ship. A cruise ship entertainment and guest program provides a great mix of events, attractions, services and facilities that incorporate a variety of teams that work together to create a captivating entertainment experience. Cruise ship entertainment decks offer everything from lavish production shows to organized activities, games, shows, and informative presentations. They feature high-quality entertainers, accomplished musicians, skilled production technicians, and knowledgeable lecturers that delight their guests. These are great ideas I’m sure the Town’s Tourism Committee would like to hear about. Terry can rhyme off a whole hockey sock full of ideas about what could be done with the Wasaga Beach waterfront locations. It’s people like Terry Cantin that make our town vibrant. We have to find more ways to encourage more people to be as supportive as Terry to make this town a preferred community in which to live, work and play. So let’s make an effort to find more Terry’s and think about adopting a more vibrant community culture. Our future depends on it. “Be the Beach”, send me your thoughts and comments at Gary@beachBOOSTER.com. Your efforts count in making this community the preferred place in which to live, work and play. Gary is president of Critel Professional Services, www.critel.ca, chairs the Wasaga Society for the Arts and the Wasaga Film Festival. Gary also lives, works and plays in Wasaga Beach.
Brantford Approx. Pop. 95,000. City in Brant County on the Grand River and Hwys. 2, 24, 53, 54 and 403, 38 km West of Hamilton. In 1626 an Indian village called Kandoucho existed at the site of what is now Brantford and was visited by Father Daillon. The village was in the middle of an area called Beavers Happy Hunting Ground because game was always plentiful. In 1784 Joseph Brant (Thayendandgea) settled with his Six Nations Indians, and the place was know as Brant’s Ford. One of Brantford’s most important tourist attractions is Her Majesty’s Royal Chapel of the Mohawks. The beautifully wrought frame chapel of St. Paul’s was built in 1785 with funds given to Joseph Brant by George III. It was the first Protestant chapel in present-day Ontario and was designated a royal chapel by Edward VII ub 1904. The post office was established and named Brantford in 1825. Brantford calls itself the “Telephone City” because the device was invented in 1874 at nearby Tutela Heights by Alexander Graham Bell, whose family home is preserved there as a museum. Also on the site is Canada’s first telephone office building, which was set up in the home of Rev. Thomas Henderson in 1877. When Henderson realized the economic potential of the telephone, he resigned the Bapist ministry to administer the office. Another nickname for Brantford is “Combine Capital of the World,” because, on a farm just outside the city, Alanson Harris produced the first Canadian-designed farm machine, a business that grew into the giant Massey-Ferguson Company. The first railway “sleeper” car was also produced at Brantford. Brantford was the home of Hon. Arthur Sturgis Hardy (1837-1901). Hardy was elected to the Ontario legislatured in 1873 as the member for South Brant and assumed the portofolios of attorney general and premier after the death of Sir Oliver Mowat in 1896, becoming Ontario’s fourth premier. Brantford native Lawren Harris (18851970), was a member of the Group of Seven Canadian painters. Journalist and author Sara Jeanette Duncan (1861-1922) was born in Brantford and earned international recognition for her writing. Of her many novels, only The Imperialist is set in Canada. William Charles Good (1876-1967) was a leading spokesman for agrarian and cooperative movements. He helped found the United Farmers of Ontario in 1914 and from 1921 to 1945 served as president of the Cooperative Union of Canada. One of the oldest national organizations of musicians in Canada was established in Brantford in 1909. The Royal Canadian College of Organists is primarily an examining body dedicated to maintaining a high standard of excellence in organ playing, choral directing, and musical composition. In 1872 The Ontario School for the Blind opened in Brantford with 11 pupils. By 1881 more than 200 students were receiving academic instruction combined with manual and vocational training at what is now the W. Ross Macdonald School.
June Rose Callwood, (June 2, 1924 – April 14, 2007) was a Canadian journalist, author and social activist. She was born in Chatham, Ontario and grew up in nearby Belle River. Callwood began her journalism career at her high school, Brantford Collegiate Institude, where she was editor of the school paper. She later worked for the Brantford Expositor. In 1942 was offered a job at the Globe and Mail and moved to Toronto.
