Tremendous turnout at 2014 Wasaga Beach Remembrance

With so many Canadians still reflecting on last month's attacks on two Canadian soldiers, the Royal Canadian Legion says there's been huge interest in its annual poppy campaign. The Legion says that roughly 19 million poppies have been distributed across the country. That's 1 million more than the amount distributed for all of 2013. The Remembrance Ceremony at Wasaga Beach on Sunday, November 9th also reflected that interest with a record attendance. It was certainly the largest turnout in recent years, and fitting for the year when the nation marked the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. The well organized event featured a Parade of the Military and Service Clubs ending in front of the Memorial at Town Hall. Pictured above are the young members of Air Cadet 714 (Wasaga Beach) Squadron, Wasaga Beach, Sponsored by: Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach and Area. The Squadron Sponsoring Committee Chair is Steve Wallace and the Commanding Officer is Capt. Jeremy Cole. The Squadron which was originally formed in 1961 has their Parade Night on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Wasaga Beach RecPlex, 1724 Mosley Street. Club President Suzanne Lacombe laid a wreath on behalf of the members of the Club. Photo by Enrique Photo Art- DSC 8909
