A ROMANTIC RIAD WITH A BRITISH TWIST Jasper Conran has been at the forefront of fashion and design for over 40 years so it seems quite surprising that L’Hotel Marrakech, a stunning Riad in the heart of Marrakech’s famous ‘Red City’ Medina, close to the vibrant Jemaa El Fna square with its bustling souk and the 12th Century Koutoubia Mosque is his first foray into the hospitality industry.
10 DÉCOR Magazine
Originally the central part of a Caidal palace, L’Hôtel Marrakech comprises of five spacious suites surrounding a courtyard garden and swimming pool and combines superb Moroccan craftsmanship with pieces of antique furniture, textiles, lighting and art from Jasper’s collection, making it feel more like a home than a hotel. When restoring the original building Conran used local craftsmen and traditional materials to achieve a style reminiscent to that of the 1930’s but with a modern Moroccan twist. High ceilings, simple whitewashed walls, white voile curtains flowing throughout the terraces and warm, soft, restful colours create a relaxing, serene feel throughout and showcase Conrad’s simplistic style perfectly.

On entering the hotel you will find yourself in the courtyard garden, planted with banana, orange and lemon trees, welcomed by the soothing sound of water from the central fountain surrounded by zelige tilework. Birds sing, perfumed roses and jasmine abound whilst bougainvillea and honeysuckle cascade down the whitewashed walls. This charming retreat really is a place of serenity. The roof terrace offers extraordinary views of the Atlas Mountains and the skyline of Marrakech. It is a place to unwind after a day’s foray into the souks, and somewhere to lay out on sun loungers.
The garden is also home to one of the few swimming pools of the Medina. Enjoy a calm relaxing swim in the ten metre pool (heated in the cooler months). A pleasure that can be enjoyed from early morning to the approach of nightfall as glowing lanterns and candles are lit, enveloping the Riad in a magical atmosphere. Planted with orange, fig and olive trees, jasmine, bougainvillea, honeysuckle and geranium the roof terrace is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Here breakfast and lunch is served under a curtained pergola. Elsewhere on the terrace, tables are set out, one can enjoy afternoon tea, coffee and cocktails. Sun loungers are arranged on a tiled raised terrace so that guests can enjoy the warmth of the Moroccan sun.
Conran isn’t the first designer to open a hotel, over the past few years there have been a number of collaborations such as the Palazzo Versace hotels that features interiors and furniture designed by Donatella Versace, while Armani has designed hotels in Dubai and Milan, and Karl Lagerfeld brought his eclectic style to Monaco’s Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo. HARRODs lAUNCHEs ITs FIRsT FURNITURE COllECTION Luxury retailer Harrods who since the 1824, have retailed furniture from Vitra, Gubi and B&B Italia have now teamed up with Italian brand Porada and British upholsterers Artistic to create their very own furniture collection. The nine piece debut collection will include cabinets, tables, console, armchairs and a sofa, and each piece is inspired by the 1930’s art deco jewellery and tailoring. The collection marries traditional upholstery and materials with contemporary silhouettes that play on geometric forms. There’s a nod to the Chesterfield sofa in the capitonné elements of the Parkside armchair and Tiverton sofa and the much-loved classic surface marble is present in the Simpson coffee table and Sayre console. Porada, which is known worldwide for its expertise in creating highly crafted dark timber furniture, was chosen to produce the furniture because of its longstanding relationship with Harrods: it has been stocked in the store since 1994. MARCIN RUSAK
Born in 1987 Warsaw, Poland Lives and works in London Marcin Rusak situates his work at the intersection of value, ephemerality and aesthetics. He studies contemporary patterns of consumption, industry methods of manipulation, and the complicated systems we support. In his pursuit of authenticity, Marcin creates work that asks questions, references history and proposes possible future scenarios. Utilizing the power of materials, volume and form he moves fluidly from decorative art objects to sculptures, two dimensional work and back again each time with a story as his guide.

Marcin has a background in both humanities (BA from European Studies from University of Warsaw) and art programmes such as Man and Living at the conceptual Eindhoven Design Academy, Netherlands as well as receiving an MA in Design Products from London’s Royal College of Arts. Recently Marcin has been awarded the Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Prize for emerging artists. He has exhibited at group shows including “What is Luxury?” at the V&A, Design Miami/Basel, London, Milan and Dubai design fairs. Recently he had his first solo show at the Contemporary Applied Arts gallery in London.
FLOWER POWER London designer Marcin Rusak who in 2015 created Flora Noir a collection of nature-inspired pieces of furniture and lighting which encased flowers in resin has unveiled a new collection of furniture at Twenty First Gallery in New York. The exhibition, Rusak’s first US solo show Flora Noir, showcasing 11 pieces and debuting a console, a coffee table, a sculpture and a wall lamp. The son and grandson of flower growers, Rusak has long drawn inspiration from greenery. “My childhood playground was a glasshouse.” He started investigating florals more closely during his graduate studies at London’s Royal College of Arts, where he developed a process of printing discarded flower petals directly onto silk textiles. The designer sources his natural materials from florists, who throw out tons of waste flowers every day. “I pick up everything they don’t need,” he said. “For me it’s better because the flowers on their way to decay show more life, they start changing colours and they’re not as perfect.”

Translating his textile patterns onto furniture was a natural step for Rusak, who starts by hand-picking greenery and flower petals. He then suspends these organics in resin or binds them with shellac, resin, and beeswax, which slows the aging process. “This leads to two avenues,” Rusak says. “I either slice up the resin slabs into strips that form a dynamic pattern, or present a unified surface that evokes a painting.”
Low Table
New introductions to Rusak’s work include a desktop sculpture, a console, and a wall light that join desktop lamps, a circular dining table, and a freestanding partition which Rusak exhibited earlier this year at Maison & Objet Paris, where he received the prestigious Rising Talent Award Flora Noir will be on display until June 16 at Twenty First Gallery in New York Rusak will also be showcased at Decorex International 2017 from 17-20 September

MY INSPIRATION
My work is inspired by the world under the sea, the world under the microscope and the magic of landscapes at twilight. I address the fragility and transience of life and the natural world, through the transformative properties of light on porcelain. I continue to explore a monochromatic spectrum that is created through the use of textures, variation in thickness and diffusion. I am intrigued by the endless variations in nature and the idea of an ongoing evolutionary process of adaptation.
Further information: 26 DÉCOR Magazine www.amycooperceramics.co.uk
TECHNICAL INFORMATION The work is created through an elaborate series of processes and techniques. All the pieces are initially slipcast in porcelain, they are then treated in one of two ways. To create The Illustrated Range they are bisque fired before a painstakingly hand-cut paper stencil is applied. After which the piece is sandblasted until the design stands proud. The stencil is removed before high firing which allows the inherent translucency of the porcelain to create a soft silhouette visually as well as texturally. Finally they are diamond polished before being wired up. Alternatively, the pieces are manipulated when soft out of the mould, bumps and dents are coaxed up through the still malleable clay. The piece is then allowed to dry out before being fettled, sponged and bisque (low) fired. After bisque the pieces are wet sanded to create a lovely blemish free surface and either glazed with a crawling glaze that creates a texture like cracked earth or left naked to be diamond polished after a second (high) firing. All my work is currently fired to 1250°C in an electric kiln. All the designs have been professionally tested and are certified as compliant with all relevant electrical safety standards.

Beatriz used noble materials, such as Aristea marble evoking luxury and sophistication and natural oak to contrast with the bronze. The interior designer wanted to give its own personality to this 4-star property of the Vincci Hoteles, by using materials and brands that combined design, quality and originality. For this project Beatriz was looking for an equilibrated contrast and harmony between colors, materials and patterns. The choice fell over those that enhance the light of the space, creating warmth and a sense of coziness.

The designer has professed her love at redesigning the Vincci Centrum and confessed to have some favorite pieces at the project. The Beetle Chairs and Stools by Gubi, a perfect mix between Italian and Danish design in laminated molded veneer, used at the Bellini food&bar. The Hanna Suspension Lamps by DelightFULL, a retro suspension fixture elegantly composed by five black & cooper lampshades made in aluminum, also used at the Bellini food&bar. And the Turquoise Crystal Chandelier designed by Beatriz Silveira. She also used some exclusive pieces in the project, such as the impressive wine cellar that gains prominence and was specially designed by her for this hotel. “Aesthetics and functionality are not incompatible, a space can transmit strength and personality while harmony and warmth. The key is balance and the selection of each piece”, said Beatriz Silveira, interior designer. The 8 floor hotel, has 87 rooms, all equipped with airconditioning, free safe, mini-bar, free Wi-Fi in all building, TV and a set of courtesy products. The 4-star hotel has also Junior Suite rooms with a small living room, a balcony with a view over the city and a special VIP room service.

COLLISION OF LIGHT British jewellery designer Lara Bohinc who in 2014 presented her stunning collection of candleholders as part of The London Collection has unveiled her first foray into the world of lighting with a collection of lamps made from broken spheres.
34 DÉCOR Magazine
Collision large Table lighT, gold galvaniC wiTh whiTe aCryliC The deconstruction and reconfiguration of pure geometric form has inspired much of designer Lara Bohinc’s work. The light here is about the collision of spherical quarters, which are struck violently together to form one broken sphere.
Inspired by the planets and their orbital movements, a recurrent theme in Lara Bohinc’s work, the range features ceiling lights and table lamps, all of which appear to be made from colliding quarters from one orb. The ceiling lights come suspended by metal rods, while the table versions lack a base or other kind of support, and are placed on their side. The lights are held in a metal framework, and feature white acrylic domes – which are available in two sizes. Collision is a recurring theme for Bohinc, who has designed similar broken orbs for bracelets, rings and pendants. For Bohinc, the task of translating her skills and inspirations as a jewellery designer into the world of luxury furniture was not that unfamiliar as she originally studied industrial design before metalwork and jewellery.
The ColleCTion The lights are made in Italy of metal frame and white acrylic domes, and come in two table lamp sizes, one composed from 20cm sphere and the larger from 40cm sphere. The ceiling lamp is also constructed from the 40cm sphere. Collision CeilinglighT, gold galvaniC wiTh whiTe aCryliC Collision is about the splitting of perfection; in this case a perfect sphere has been broken but in a very symmetrical manner. It is almost like the pieces are sliding apart.
Collision large Table lighT, gold galvaniC wiTh whiTe aCryliC Designing the metal framework was a particular challenge for Bohinc, as well as understanding how to evenly distribute the light. “The key was in approaching each quarter as its own entity,” she explained.

Just when you thought you shouldn’t have a single thing covering your windows, and you were trying to get your head around everyone seeing you getting dressed in the morning, the powers that be in the ‘design trend analysis’ world have decided that yes, actually, it might be a good thing to dress your windows after all!
We list some of the top reasons to ‘curtain up’: PRIVACY It’s up there as the number 1 reason to cover your windows. I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want people seeing me at my worst before my first coffee of the morning, or as I wriggle into my PJs at bedtime! INSULATION Windows are getting larger and bolder, and despite all the excellent, ground breaking, thermally efficient glass now available, and window frames with super duper thermal breaks built in, they STILL let in the cold. You just can’t beat a thick bit of fabric at your window to keep out the chill on those cold winter nights. BETTER ACOUSTICS According to our friends at ION acoustics, if you want to improve the acoustics in your home, adding fabric and textiles is ONE OF THE BEST ways to do it. Larger open plan living spaces, hard floors and large windows all contribute to that feeling that one is in a community centre rather than a home, so give it a hand by adding some drapes. A GREAT WAY TO GET ‘HYGGE’ This lovely Danish term defines exactly what curtains do for a room - create that cosy atmosphere, even in a large area. Once you draw your curtains, you can completely change the feel of your living spaces from open, bright, daylit rooms framed by a beautiful fabric, to an intimate sanctuary with great ambience, where friends and family will feel at home. Or, after a tough day at work, curtains will help you create a warm snuggly den when you want to block out the rest of the world and consume that entire bar of dairy milk... (maybe that’s just me...).
REDUCE SOLAR GAIN As I am writing this in November, solar gain isn’t a current issue of mine, but come the Summer, keeping your room cool will (hopefully) be important! Leave your curtains closed on hot days when you go off to work (don’t worry what your mother would say, or that the neighbours might think you are STILL in bed), and when you come home, your rooms will be much cooler for it, thank you. STOP GLARE ON SCREENS An important problem in our current device-rich world. The sun is just starting to dip in the afternoon, and you can’t see what delights they’re baking in GBBO because of the sun glaring on your 40” flat screen? You’re trying to zoom in on a product picture on Amazon for an emergency birthday present purchase, but it’s just too bright to see the detail? Tweak your curtain across, and hey presto - your media rich world is instantly restored. ADD COLOUR OR TEXTURE TO YOUR ROOM If you feel your enormous living space is just a bit too sterile, pull it all together with a great fabric and curtain pole. Whether you want a ‘wow’ colour, or something to add a subtle depth to your scheme, using curtains and co-ordinating curtain poles can make it happen. So, thankfully, curtains and curtain poles are de rigueur again - Phew. I was getting really cold.

BOISERIE by Giacomazzi+Tabet
A modern gallery of essential patterns and three-dimensional geometries, revealing their predominant soul through neutral nuances and colors in contrast, to create a unique atmosphere where rigor and glamour live in harmony. In this sophisticated collection, designed by Texturae, past and present mix in a happy blend eternally suspended between art and design: the encounter of classic and modern elegance revives the timeless golden rules of Art Deco, reinterpreted by Texturae for the third millennium.
BUTTERFLY by Martina Della Valle DÉCOR Magazine

The new series of canvas by Texturae is animated by art deco-influenced designs, decorating your home space with extremely modern elegance: sophisticated retro lines – inspired by a minimal drawing style – featuring ton sur ton colors or soft nuances in contrast, emerge to illuminate the surface with gentle lights and vibrant metallic blushes. The new wallpapers by Texturae reveal an endless, color changing materic splendor: soft lines, geometric designs or fluid, nature-influenced graphic drawings animate the paper surfaces and fluctuate harmoniously on the walls – both indoor and outdoor – where evocative colors alternate with vivid contrasts. The wallpaper Deco – name and design clearly inspired by the visual art style that first appeared in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century – has been created by the in-house design team of Texturae, whilst Weimar by Chiara Andreatti is a tribute to Viennese finest decorations of the early 1900s. Evocative deco patterns – in neutral colors or nuances in contrast, illuminated by gentle lights and vibrant metallic blushes – animate Weave by Sovrappensiero Design Studio, Reinassance and Frank created by the team Texturae. The three-dimension matter, with its endless range of color shades, is the main feature of a wallpaper series designed by the team Texturae: in Marmolada and Hex, the design reveals its 3D materic soul, expressed through the dancing soft colors in contrast; Ruben and Annie show their strength through rigorous marks, severe but gentle at times. Finally, Boiserie by Paolo Giacomazzi + Philippe Tabet, Butterfly by Martina Della Valle and Libertine by the team Texturae once again propose deco-influenced designs, alternating rigorous definitive with soft sinuous lines. Capable of expressing a fascinating mix of timeless classic and modern elegance, the new wallpapers by Texturae – likewise any other product of the design brand – are created in compliance with the Italian and European health and environment regulations. All collections by Texturae can be created on vinyl and glass fiber base. Each paper is printed using only water based inks, totally odor free, non—flammable/combustible, totally nickel free, which make these products suitable for home appliance as well as contract and healthcare environments. Founded by young entrepreneurs Daniele Morabito and Dario Pulitanò, Texturae debuted at Milan Design Week Fuorisalone. Far from the conventional role of accessory, wallpapers by Texturae are design complements to be shaped according to one’s desire. Walls and surfaces therefore become the place for a personal aesthetic experience, capable of turning a conventional space into a sensorial journey.

The Rug Company is the collaborative effort of 1,662 people. From the spinners and weavers, to the people who deliver and lay the finished rug, the result of all these diverse and individual contributions is a hand knotted rug that will last for generations. Sourcing interesting, exceptional pieces requires travel, an addiction to collecting and the ability to spot the extraordinary. They know that during the four months it takes to make each of our rugs, they use the same undiluted craft that was used a hundred years ago. They understand the importance of the raw material because a rug is only as good as the fibre it is woven from. The company uses wool that comes from high on the Tibetan plateau, wool that is so rich in natural lanolin that it is oily to the touch. They understand the importance of selecting the right rug for each room and appreciate that this is a process that will take time and can’t be hurried. REBEL RUGS
Always at the forefront of cultural trends, Vivienne Westwood is considered to be one of the most original and influential designers of our time Gentle parody of Establishment, a playful mix of British fabrics, sheer eccentricity and a keen curiosity is where Westwood delights and excels. Vivienne Westwood and The Rug Company first collaborated back in 2005 with the resulting “Parody of Establishment”, as it was referred to at the time, included the legendary handmade rug design known as VW Flag. Since then, the two have combined forces many times, with three new Vivienne Westwood rugs recently unveiled; Thistle, Moiré and Vivienne’s Rose Dust. It is evident that once again Vivienne has tapped into her sense of heritage and “Britishness” to create the new collection, her affinity with Scotland, aptly illustrated by her MacAndreas tartan, is said to have originally been inspired by her husband and design partner, Andreas Kronthaler. In this latest collection her abstract take on Scotland’s national flower and emblem, showcased in THISTLE GOLD a hand knotted rug with fine silk yarns on a Tibetan wool background makes an explosive statement as a rug. In contrast, the other two designs have a more gentle and traditional tone. From the outset the creative process is a team affair, Vivienne explains. “The graphics for the designs start with prints from our archive. A tribute to Alex Krenn, one of our oldest friends who works on our design team and who then translates the prints and graphics on to these beautiful carpets. They are really special.” The Rug Company’s weavers translate the designs into hundreds of thousands of individual knots – around 780,000 knots for each of these 2.74m by 1.83m rugs. Soft Tibetan wool and fine silk are woven together to capture the nuances of Vivienne’s designs. Each rug is entirely handmade by weavers in the Kathmandu area of Nepal – world recognised for their expertise. The combination of world-class design and traditional Nepalese weaving skills is simply formidable. DÉCOR Magazine

MOIRE Moiré is a traditional fabric technique used by Westwood on grand silk taffeta ball gowns and velvet suiting to create a fluid water like movement. For a contemporary feel, Vivienne uses a Moiré-style motif on the rug in high contrasting shades of soft black and white. The blown up scale maximises the monochrome effect, creating a statement piece.

THISTLE GOLD The Thistle rug is a gesture to Vivienne’s affinity with Scotland, an abstract graphic of the regal milk thistle. The design is hand knotted with fine silk yarns on a Tibetan wool background, pairing pale rose and golden tones.
VIVIENNE ROSE DUST Reminiscent of an English rose garden in bloom, Vivienne’s Rose print with its wide open buds and micro detailed thorn stems has a botanical, illustrative-like quality, painted using a soft aquarelle watercolour technique. The details are emphasised by careful blending of the hand spun yarns of Tibetan wool, which are then knotted by hand into a rug.

All Illulian’s rugs from the Design Collection are knotted and carded by hand and can be had in two quality levels: Platinum 120 and Gold 100. Their unique chromatic appeal hinges on the bright vegetal colours that went into their making. Platinum 120, the most exclusive line, is characterised by the use of top quality wool and silk and the extremely complex handcrafted process – with a stunning 180,000 knots/m2 – that creates highly scenographic sculpted effects. Gold 100 proposes rugs made from wool and silk, with a timeless charm and a density of 86,000 knots/m2.

These prestigious rugs can be created for residential settings or contract projects, museums, showrooms, hotels, restaurants or nautical settings.

Make way for abstract aquatics! The ‘Splash’ cushions by British brand Penelope Hope, dissect coastal colours and reflect the way the light falls on the tide. Designed by founder Nadia Newton, the Splash cushions are inspired by the spring tides crashing over coastal sea walls in her island home of Guernsey. The Splash Fragment Cushion with its kaleidoscope style design, is a refreshing mix of cobalt blues, turquoise and zesty greens. This design started life as an acrylic ink painting by designer Nadia, inspired by the spring tides crashing over the coastal sea walls in her beloved island home of Guernsey. Each cushion comes filled with a plump feather insert, identical printed reverse and thin blue piping. Available in two different sizes, 45cm x 45cm (18” x 18”) and 60cm x 60cm (24” x 24”), the smaller cushion is perfect for perking up a sofa for summer, while the larger works wonders as an ornamental bed cushion or as extra floor seating for party guests! THE ELEGANCE OF MARBLE
in making contemporary designer staircases Design, functionality, and durability are essential requirements for luxury buildings that are meant to stand the test of time. Amazing, fascinating, modern and contemporary are all adjectives that characterise the Margraf range of marbles for interiors and exteriors. The modern machining technologies of the Vicenza-based company allow it to use this natural material in all home environments, from the bathroom to the kitchen, from the swimming pool to the terrace, including staircases which become genuine works of design. One fine example is the recent renovation of a prestigious private residence in Palermo by the architect Ino Piazza where a staircase in Lipica Fiorito, designed to measure, becomes the centrepiece of the living area. With its light shades of colour, matched with the dark copper of the second flight, Lipica Fiorito creates a sense of refinement and movement, as well as an “urban chic” style in the entire structure. The first flight, in marble, has been built entirely using a system of boxes arranged at 45 degrees to hide the steel load-bearing structure completely. In order to heighten the overall sense of lightness, the base structure features a large slab of backlit Bianco Namibia.
In restyling Palazzo Anti-Veronese, an 18th-century country casino with a large private park nestled in a unique architectural and landscape setting between Campo Marzio and the Monte Berico Sanctuary in Vicenza, Studio Zanguio, in collaboration with the architect Laura Croce, has chosen polished slabs of Grigio Aitos, a particularly resistant and uniform stone with shades of light grey, for the flooring and steps of the selfsupporting staircase. In Cyprus, in renovating an elegant residence with a sophisticated design and a prime location in a residential complex just a few steps away from the sea, brushed Bianco Perlino has been chosen for the staircase - the centrepiece of the plan to reorganise space - that connects the ground floor to the upper floor and to the basement. Characterised by a rigorous and essential design, the staircase features steps where the tread meets the rise at 45 degrees and the meeting point is enhanced by LED lighting. Another example of the extreme versatility and matching of marbles is the creation by Studio Pace & Cecchetto. A concrete winding staircase covered in polished slate and with steps where the tread meets the rise at 45 degrees has been fit inside a private home in Vicenza.

DEFINITION OF DYNAMISM Shape Shifting ‘Wing’ takes off in the Furniture Market with ‘the Definition of Dynamism’ Presenting dynamic designs that respond to life, new design house Leda® is set to challenge the way we think about furnishing the home. Flexible and playful living spaces that adapt to human life encourage people to live in the present; effortless and free to be themselves, whilst celebrating their own choices and experiences. Based on this concept, Leda® has revolutionised the traditional approach to furniture design, starting from a place of deeper understanding of the relationship between people and the objects they live with. Combining the science behind human experience; how we perceive both sensually and emotionally, and an artistic flair in innovative design, the design house disrupts the market with the first of it’s creations; the Wing.

your shape and flow of life; giving you your right to be in control of your own world. “Each design piece from Leda® will be something our customers will grow to cherish. Our aim is to create items that slip fluidly into your life, becoming the heart of the home and helping you feel forever young in your own personal space. “The Wing has been created to celebrate individuality, allowing everyone to be effortlessly unique, which is something we haven’t seen before in furniture design.” Just as life is complex, colourful and cultured, the Wing embraces contradictions in its design. With its juxtaposing prints inspired by nature, sprouting from its winged corners, the Wing has taken on three striking design treatments which Allison goes on to eloquently explain: “Inspired by exquisite Italian marble, the Carrara Wing has the look of dependable stone displayed proudly in its splayed corners, but its soft suppleness is still present in its flexible form and the delicate lightness of it’s presence. It is this intriguing juxtaposition that we wanted to explore, as the human condition itself is full of contradictions. The innovative creation transforms in response to human interaction and is flexible to the living environment that surrounds it. Its otherworldly shape is striking in appearance, but compatible by nature. The true essence of the Wing can only be revealed in person by engaging with the design, making every individual’s experience unique. The diversity of positions and adventures it inspires with its flexible nature can be discovered through everyday life with the Wing. In an interview with the Leda® creators ‘Dynamism and Sensory Designer’ Allison Chatten explains: “While rigid furniture dictates how you live, at Leda® our desire is to create designs that naturally respond to

“Organic patterns and intricate structures found in nature’s own laboratory are often some of the most perplexing of architectural designs found on our planet. The Honeycomb Wing showcases nature’s geometry in all its finery whilst it’s form is indisputably a creation of mankind. “The flow of liquid metal is reminiscent of the space age. Both retro and futuristic at the same time, the Mercury Wing fuses life across the ages, whilst molding memories yet to come.” Leda® invites you take the time to reimagine your home. The spaces you choose to surround yourself with should celebrate your individuality, feel playful and expressive, and ultimately, place you at the centre of living your life.

THE NEW BENTLEY HOME COLLECTION The Collection Bentley Home presents a new furniture collection aptly titled ‘The Collection.’ Designed by the architect Carlo Colombo it focuses on the study of proportions and forms, outlining well-balanced concepts featuring classical volumes full of refined details. The relaxing and innovative attitude typical of the Bentley world of interiors is also reflected in the choice of materials. The new maple and eucalyptus woods that add allure to the structures and surfaces are interpreted in variations with the refined fiddleback motif, at times in contrast with the leather covers. Fabrics take their cue from the world of haute couture, in a tribute to the inimitable automotive tradition. Soft cotton and silk velvets and high-performance chenilles reinterpret chromatic patterns, applying a palette that ranges through delicate and pastel nuances. Tones of ecru and quartz grey are juxtaposed with highlighted burgundy and cognac shades, creating a Collection of unique individuality. 96 DÉCOR Magazine

Never one to deny what the public wants, the design genius that is Smithers of Stamford means it’s now possible to bring that cycling passion indoors. Tata Mini Truck Bar £875.00
STRAIGHT OUT OF THE REPAIR SHOP Ladies and gents, I give you Smither’s recycled car furniture. Stick with me, I promise its good. We love to mix up the theory of what’s fundamentally regarded as interior and exterior furnishings – it properly messes with people heads and our car furniture and The truck bar are the best examples of this slightly warped thought process since our dynamic Concrete Furniture Collection. It’s fair to say, and I’m sure you’ll agree by now, that we positively strive on my taste being a little different from everyone else’s. We like to be original, break from the norm and push the boundaries when it comes to interior style. We don’t do boring, beige or bulk. Smithers do unique, vibrant and on occasion, ever so slightly outrageous. And we’re proud of it. I think our latest collection ticks all those boxes
Car Sofa £2211.00
and I hope you will agree At present our car furniture Collection showcases two types of seating options and one very awesome Tata Truck recycled bar. Both styles of Car Seats are taken from original Ambassadors by Hindustan, whilst the truck is commissioned from a Tata Motor Truck – all having led previous lives being driven around the exciting and colourful streets of India.
Reclaimed Truck Bar £2320.00
How cool would it be if these vehicles could talk?! My overactive imagination runs wild with fantastic recycled products like this that I’m convinced could tell a tale or two of romance, hard work, laughter and maybe even the odd drop of illegal antics given half the chance. Regarding the two options of car sofas, the now redundant cars are shipped back to the UK, where the magic can begin in transforming these battered beauties into a repurposed sofas. The cars are sympathetically cut in half and the engine bay or boot cavity is where the seating area is constructed. Our Car Sofa is available as either the front or back end of the car, the taxi sofa is also available as a front piece and rear end of a car. Very little is done to the bodywork of the car, so scrapes, scratches and naturally aged patina are all still gloriously visible. The Car Sofa’s are fitted with a comfortable cushioned seat that’s skilfully dressed in distressed tan leather, whilst the Taxi sofa is finished with an eye-catching seat constructed from reclaimed boat wood that also bears the well worn markings of original paintwork. We have very little numbers available in these bespoke pieces and due to the nature of the recycled materials used, each car sofa is totally unique in design.
Taxi Sofa is your centre piece for your alfresco space, when they are lit up in their full glory, there’s no denying just how awesome these recycled pieces really are. And what better way to complete your car furniture theme than with our awesome Recycled Bar? The battered front end of the truck makes an amazing conversation piece for serving drinks to your friends at home, or even as a quirky shop counter or pub table. The Truck Bar undergoes exactly the same procedure as the cars, once again offering a one off repurposed product that showcases original paintwork, reclaimed boat wood top, aged metal work. We cannot begin to express just how cool the Tata Bars are, but I can guarantee it will be love at first sight. I have absolutely no inclination between one or the other – I’m a sucker for super soft, knackered leather but equally love the effect of
Both car sofa’s pack a punch in their own right, however the absolute pièce de résistance for me is the fact that taxi seats have fully working headlights that set the tone perfectly and guarantee to drive your friends green with envy! distressed reclaimed boat wood and who could deny the bulky charm of that Truck Bar? It’s a bit like asking me to choose a favourite child. Impossible. What’s your preference though – Car Taxi Sofa, Truck Bar or car sofa with the leather seats. We’ve loved the effect and drama all of them have brought to an indoor space – the Car Sofa works fantastically well in a living area or man cave that carries a relaxed and slightly masculine style, whereas the Truck Bar and Car sofa were the absolute highlights of an open plan industrial themed space. Whilst I’m not one for namedropping, I have to admit Smither’s Car Furniture has not gone unnoticed by the rich and famous. Actually I’d love to name drop, but I can’t afford the legal implications. Just trust me when I say, if you want your style to come with a unique twist that’s of A-List calibre, then our Car Furniture Collection is for you.

A HOST OF NEW PRODUCTS Bonaldo is attending the Salone del Mobile 2017 with a host of new products, to supplement its existing collections of tables, chairs, accessories, sofas and beds. Here is a short preview of the products scheduled to be exhibited during the fair. lIAs chAIR Lias is the new chair designed by Gino Carollo. Lias, a dialect form of the word layers, is the term used in European geology to point out the early Jurassic period, when the Earth’s stratification was formed. Indeed, layers defines the design of this new chair. The border follows the entire silhouette of the seat and of the backrest, with two edges which draw its contour: a well-finished tailoring detail which emphasises the comfort granted by the generous padding. The base is available in metal or wood. Base: wood (brushed ash-wood, in natural, anthracite or walnut finish) or painted metal. Seat and backrest: wooden frame, padded with non deformable rubber. Upholstery: fabric, leather or eco-leather cover.
ORIGAMI tAble And cOnsOle For Bonaldo, Gino Carollo designed Origami, a table and a console which draw their inspiration from the namesake ancient Oriental art. “I have always been fascinated by the craftsmanship of the artisans in our tradition and by that of the sophisticated and subtle art of origami”, explains the designer.
Indeed, the base of the table consists of thin metal sheets folded like the sheets of paper used for origami, with the aim of making the frame stable and achieving the utmost visual lightness, almost as if it were challenging gravity. The top is bevelled to recall the design of the base and to further slim down the overall appearance.
Origami console Base in painted metal (available in multiple colours), in brass, copper or pickled finish. Table top in various wood finishes or ceramic. Table top sizes: 160x90 cm / 180x90 cm / 200x100 cm / 250x100 cm

blAnKet bed Warmth, softness and a sense of protection are the feelings which inspired the Blanket bed designed by Alessandro Busana for Bonaldo. The roles have been inverted and the blanket has been transformed from a mere accessory to the main star. Indeed, a large, soft quilt makes up the base of this bed, supporting the mattress and, from the foot of the bed, it has been folded over thus forming the headrest.
“The bed is an object we interact with for a long period and with the most of our body”, explains designer Alessandro Busana. “Making it comfortable not only materially but also in terms of perception seemed to me an essential starting point. Hence the choice of a blanket, considering the symbol it represents in the collective imagination”. The almost archetypal nature of this concept makes Blanket an iconographic bed immediately recognizable, one that is capable of playing the starring role and arousing emotions through a simple yet extraordinary rolled up blanket. Bed surface sizes: queen size 154x205 cm / 160x200 cm / 180x100 cm / king size 194x205 cm Bed sizes: L 260/265 cm x W 180/200 cm wide Headboard: 300 g. rolled up quilt Upholstery: fully removable fabric cover
thedUcK cOffee tAble Theduck is a surreal and functional coffee table, an ironic and fun metaphor of an unusual pet. “The picture of a faithful duck sitting beside the sofa, with a coffee table on its head, ready to hold remote controls, smartphones, books and magazines, was so absurd and unlikely to me that I was immediately captured by it”, the fun comment of designer Alessandro Busana. Thanks to the different colour options, the illuminated version and its eccentric nature, Theduck can be both amazing and functional anywhere in the home, from the living room to the bathroom, the bedroom and even the garden. Material: coloured polyethylene available in many colours, also for outdoor use. Dimensions: 43 cm high, 41 cm deep, total width of 34 cm, table top diameter of 33 cm. In fact, it is no coincidence that the models of the Tonino Lamborghini Casa line elegantly evoke the world of vintage grand tourers, a clear reference to the history of the Lamborghini family, both in terms of the design lines and materials used, such as high-quality leather finished with carbon and kevlar details. Even for the HOME line, the mechanical stylistic elements - bearings, connecting rods, pistons, exhaust pipes, ventilation grilles, headlights, leaf springs and hinges -, which have always distinguished the luxury accessories of the brand with the raging Bull crest, are key elements of inspiration for upholstered chairs, desks, lamps and beds made by Formitalia for Tonino Lamborghini. High-tech materials are used, such as carbon fibre, brushed steel and braided wire, symbolising a concept of power and strength, along with fine leather suggesting concepts of luxury and elegance. The innate appeal of high standards adds objective beauty to mechanical stylistic elements supported by lightweight and precious high-tech materials.
TOLEDO + RONDA Featuring a futuristic design, the new TOLEDO corner sofa charms you with its sinuous and elegant lines – created as a centre piece for exclusive settings. The selection of fine leather upholstery is no coincidence: the contrast between the asphalt shade of the frame and the ash shade of the seat and some parts of the backrest creates an impressive visual interplay, enhancing its perfect manufacturing and excellent care of each and every detail. The polished chromium-plated feet are reminiscent of the dynamic world of motor vehicles. Size: 398x210xH.82 cm The matching small RONDA armchair with a swivel base captivates you with its charming design, which, further emphasised by the contrast of the two-tone leather upholstered with contrasting seams, makes it a perfect item in every room of the house. Size: 74x72xH.78 cm
LONG BEACH The LONG BEACH office by Tonino Lamborghini Casa retains that timeless charm that turned it into a must-have item for entrepreneurs or private offices worldwide, as well as for exclusive homes. Constantly renewed with new solutions and finishes, this year it features elegant black Vogue leather upholstery with visibly contrasting seams and fine polished V005 walnut details. The desk, with drawers and storage compartments, has a multi-socket support built into the frame. Size: 260x106xH.79 cm The perfectly matching BOOSTER QUILT executive chair is entirely upholstered with Vogue leather in contrasting black and mud shades, with an original double matelassè technique and logo printed on the headrest. The set is completed by a storage unit with 4 doors featuring the same finishes of the desk. Size: 270x50xH.78 cm
PAMPLONA Elegant and yet dynamic, the PAMPLONA bed captivates your attention with its unusual design featuring only two front feet, which highlight the optical illusion of a tilted surface. Entirely upholstered with fine Vogue leather with a matelasse technique on the side and the striped pattern on the headrest, it also features matching bedside tables with singular polished Canaletto walnut inserts. Size: bed 200x242x112 cm for a mattress measuring 180x200 cm – bedside tables 60x40xH.43 cm

The updated palette is extensive. It comprises 184 shades: 170 individual colours 14 of which are repeated in varying strengths as ‘Colour Scales’. The card spans over 300 years of historic interior design and includes many authentic 18th, 19th and 20th century shades, which are denoted by red icons identifying the era of their provenance. These archive colours sit harmoniously alongside contemporary shades conceived to meet the requirements of 21st century living. As a result, the card, whilst duly respectful of period architecture, is also completely in tune with modern life and today’s interior design aesthetics. The colour offer has been carefully refined to reflect current trends without compromising the integrity of Little Greene’s signature palette. In the words of Ruth Mottershead, Marketing Director: “Confident colour is absolutely central to Little Greene, and the updated paint chart reinforces this! The ‘Colours of England’ card has been designed to meet a growing appetite for timeless colour that’s both easy to choose and a pleasure to live with, whilst much of the neutral space is occupied by the increased ‘Colour Scales’ offer”.

The 2017 colour card contains seven new colours, some from the Little Greene archive, (‘Mid Azure Green’, ‘Grey Stone’, ‘Pale Lupin’, ‘Middle Buff’, ‘Light Gold’ and ‘Pleat’), and a new stand-alone shade ‘Mortlake Yellow’ in one of this year’s most on-trend tones. In addition 22 key colours will be imported from the recent Little Greene capsule collections of ‘Pink’ and ‘Blue’. Two new families of diluted colours, ‘Aquamarine’ and ‘Dorchester Pink’, augment the ‘Colour Scales’ palette. Ruth Mottershead continues: “The neutral trend for 2017 continues away from cream and beige towards grey tones so, to complement the new collection, we have retained the ever popular separate ‘Grey’ colour card. Offering a total spectrum of greys for all applications, we firmly believe ‘Grey’ is here to stay, due to its universal appeal and very useable shades.”

The new user-friendly colour chart is subtly arranged into two sections, one featuring more muted shades, the other stronger accent tones: to test this versatility, just try folding the card and see for yourself! A further demonstration of the practicality of the colour card is its unique ‘flying chips’. These take the headache out of paint selection because, by folding the card away from the chip, the colour can be placed next to another shade or finish in the home or on the moodboard, be it paint, wallpaper, fabric, wood, tile or stone. Actually made from Little Greene’s Absolute Matt Emulsion, the flying chips are accurate representations of both colour and the supremely matt, chalky finish for which Little Greene is appreciated all over the world.

The new card benefits from a darker background which, combined with the ingenious ‘chips’, makes it even easier to visualize colours away from a bright white background. Comparisons are also easier to make when choosing between whites such as ‘Shirting’ and ‘Loft White’ in the new layout. In keeping with Little Greene’s quality assurance, all shades on the ‘Colours of England’ colour card are available in the full range of paint finishes: traditional and modern, interior and exterior. 2017 also sees the introduction of another finish called Flat Oil Eggshell, which is flatter than a regular eggshell having just a 10% sheen level, making it the perfect partner for Little Greene’s renowned flat emulsion paints. Colour
&
design Colour has a profound impact on our lives. Many researchers have executed numerous experiments on colour psychology in an attempt to develop an understanding of the phenomena of human perception and results show that all people generally react similarly to colours and that colours evoke emotion. With the oncoming transition of summer to autumn and then to winter the long bright days of summer are replaced with shorter hours of sunlight which can evoke emotions of sadness, depression and anxiety. Within interior design, designers look to combat these changes in the season with trends, Chromotherapy the practice of healing with colour is a trend that has been adopted by the interior community to help combat these emotions by using colour within the home. For example, blue and lavender are known to soothe and promote relaxation; red stands for energy and excitement; yellow promotes learning and curiosity; pink symbolizes nurturing and friendship; and green promotes emotional harmony and balance. So bid farewell to white walls and minimalchic decor! To warm up your home and your heart all you need is paintbrushes, rollers and paint. It’s important to consider all the elements in the room: furniture, window treatments, pictures, even trinkets. If you don’t want to paint the entire room, you can still brighten it up with a few cleverly placed accent pieces in that colour.

Hallway/ Foyer Best colours: Off-white and shades of blue, pink or green represent hope and welcome Don’t recommenD: No rules Why? These are all active spaces and can be painted bright colours or muted colours. The hallway is a reflection of your personality and is the only room in the home that can be painted any colour.
Study/Office Best colours; Brighter colours are fine for these more active spaces. Choose any colour that you love. White and cream colours are excellent for home offices because they represent the metal element which supports mental clarity. Don’t recommenD; Darker tones or any colour that reflects the water element which is too floaty and ungrounded. Why? Home offices should be more active so that you can
get things done. So you should use bolder colours here. This is not the room to be so cosy. Lemon yellow is ideal for this space if people need to concentrate: The colour of the sun not only accelerates learning, boosts vitality and energy but also enhances creativity, growth and combats depression by stimulating the left-side of the brain. Another colour to use is purple as this is great for good mental health.
The Living Room Best colours: Earth tones, pastels, muted colours Don’t recommenD: Reds, purples, bright colours - neons Why? The living room can be both a busy and active area of the home, as well as a refuge for members of the household to relax after work or school. The colours chosen for the living room can be especially important, and consideration should be taken when deciding on which colour schemes best fits the needs of the room, and the mood that is desired. As a balance, natural colours of browns and greens are good choice for the living room as they encourage vitality and abundance, as well as health and growth. For active go getters, fire colours in reds, oranges, pinks and purples, create a living space which promotes high energy and passion. This colour selection best suits those who use the living room area for activities related to career or work. Couples who spend time communicating in the living room area of the home may find that these colours energize conversations.

The KiTchen Best colours: Earth tones as well as the spectrum of yellow Don’t recommenD; Reds, black, navy blue, grey, dark brown Why? Kitchens should be happy active spaces but they also already have a lot of fire and water. The best element to balance both is the earth element represented by earth tones and terracottas. These can be bright yellow, gold’s, rich terra-cotta or any other brighter colour. The colour yellow stimulates digestion, boosts the lymphatic system, and facilitates the removal of toxins and, in conjunction with white, immediately grants a sense of “cleanliness” to the space and highlights the natural colours of food. Green is also another good choice for the kitchen as it stills our hunger pangs and makes us feel sated.
The BaThroom Best colours: Earth tones, pastels, whites Don’t recommenD: Navy, dark brown, green or purple Why? The bathroom should be a sanctuary where you go to prepare yourself to face the day or retreat at night to prepare for sleep. The best colours for a bathroom include lighter shades of green, blues, pink, or white. Black or grey, which correspond to the water element, make good accent colours or, you can use pastels or white with bright accents to enliven the space.
142 DÉCOR Magazine
The MasTer BedrooM Best colours: Earth tones, flesh tones, pastels including light sages, colours that are more muted. Don’t recommenD: Bright colours, fiery colours such as bright reds, purples, pinks or oranges. Dark colours such as black, brown, greys, navy blue or dark green are also not recommended Why? Choosing the right colour for this room is probably the most important, as the choice of colour used not only affects your overall mood but your sleep pattern as well. Bedrooms should be calm spaces to promote rest and rejuvenation. Bright colours are too active for bedrooms and dark colours are too depressing. You want the right amount
of restfulness but not to the point that it is depressing. Red, the colour of passion is great for increasing sexual prowess but for those with a fiery temper it is like a rag to a bull! Many people believe the use of purple within the bedroom is a sign of luxury however the colour purple is known to stimulate the brain so sleeping in a purple room is more likely to promote vivid dreams or even nightmares resulting in less sleeping hours. The best colour choice is a soothing light blue as it encourages a better night’s sleep, promotes calm & soothing feelings and is thought to slow the heart rate and even reduce blood pressure.
The Child’s Bedroom/Nursery Best colours: Pastels pinks, dusky blues or mellow yellows are great for a child’s bedroom as they promote sleep and calm Don’t recommenD: Red, purple, bright orange, black or grey Why? Avoid using energizing colours like red and other bold, bright colours in the bedroom as they can cause tempers to flare during playtime and too much hyperactive energy for the little ones to fall asleep too at night. Bright colours are good for playrooms but bedrooms need to be more subdued.

This season white sheets have been given the boot, replaced by vibrant colours and graphic designs meaning updating your bedroom is as simple as child’s play! Here we take a look at this season’s trends.
Go minimal with modern beddinG The hottest trend in bedding is modern style with sleek lines. Inspired by the clean feel of Japanese bedding, modern bedding is meant to be tucked around the mattress on a platform that shows off the structure of the bed itself. Forget valances and long, draping coverlets. Choose a heavy but flat blanket or sham that fits your mattress with no excess fabric hanging over the edges. Use a small selection of decorative pillows (to accent your tightly-made bed. Choose sheets and covers in warm tones like cream, olive, dark teal and chocolate.
Choose textures and prints over fussy beddinG The dust-gathering, fussy trend of using dozens of pillows and excess blankets has thankfully ended. A bed full off pillows and throws only adds extra work when it’s time to make the bed. Give your bedding pop and style by using coverlets, blankets and pillows with texture. Use no more than three accent pillows and add colour to the bed with a textured or printed blanket draped artfully over the foot of the bed.
add some Colourful beddinG The easiest way to create a stunning new look is to change the colour of your bedding. Try a duvet cover or throw pillows in the season’s hottest colour trends, such as grey and orange or bold plum. Make an all-white bed and accent it with decorative pillows in jewel tones like turquoise or bright metallics. To bring the entire look together, invest in one or two accent pieces in your room that draw from the colour scheme of your bedding, such as a decorative vase, mirror or wall art.
blaCk is baCk Taking cues from this season’s runway fashions, modern, streamlined linens in classic black and white look crisp and super-stylish in just about any bedroom. Team with simple chrome accessories to create a dramatic effect
last but not least! Pretty sheets promise your bedroom an instant pick-me-up, but new linens should always be laundered before making the bed. For the softest, sweet-smelling results, wash them with a fabric softener and scent booster and enjoy that blissful night’s sleep.

HigHperformance KitcHens for small spaces Having to cope with limited space does not mean you have to give up design and functionality, especially in the kitchen, one of the most important rooms of the home, both in terms of need and conviviality. On the contrary: if each and every centimeter is well designed, the results can be surprising in terms of beauty and comfort. Comprex offers modular solutions that can fit in a variety of sized spaces, developing along a single wall or in tight corners which often are the link with the living room. All of this is possible with maximum comfort, essential in the kitchen, offered in a variety of materials according to specific budgets and needs. Following are three dynamic solutions where care has been given to their beauty.
Filo: Elegance, beauty and functionality are the key words that define Filo, proposed in the Slim version with island. In this case, the containment system is also supported by a closed cabinet with maxi doors. The Omnia system is useful both in terms of space and beauty. It consists of modular elements with containers that can be hung freely in any position to hold kitchen accessories with great rationality. To best use the space in the Comprex base corner cabinets, we also recommend the Le Mans mechanism that makes even tight, poorly functional spaces easy to use, and keeps items always on hand. The extraction movement is fluid, practical and independent for each shelf. The finishes of the kitchen in the image are: island and top cupboards in Arctic White Comprex Lux; Column and Omnia insert elements in Earth Natural Touch.

TOP SUMMER TILE TRENDS
168 DÉCOR Magazine
This year Original Style celebrated 30 successful years as a tile manufacturer and distributor. They have been producing tiles in Exeter, Devon since 1986, using a combination of quality raw materials, traditional techniques alongside new technology, and a skilled and dedicated work force.

JEWEL-LIKE TONES
The company offers a huge choice of high quality wall and floor tiles and mosaics in glass, stone, ceramic and porcelain, all suitable for residential locations, and most of them can be used in commercial settings too.
2017 will be all about rich, deep, vibrant greens and sultry blues, with names like Kale, Greenery, Lapis Blue and Niagara. You can find similar shades amongst Original Style’s products – check out the Victorian Green tiles (Artworks range) which are a true colour match for the green trend, richly toned and available in a glossy finish. Or, if the jungle colour scheme isn’t for you, try moody blues instead. Choose tiles in Pantone’s Lapis Blue and Niagara - two blues on the opposite end of the scale. Lapis Blue is a strong colour - the Baroque Blue tile from the Artworks collection will work well here, just as the Winchester tile with the exact same name. Niagara on the other hand is more of a grey-blue, very similar to the Dulux Colour of 2017, called Denim Drift. To achieve this look try Original Style’s Filigree Blue Sky Blue, Sea Blue, Midnight Blue on brilliant white patterned tile from the Tapestry Collection for a good match.

SHAPES & SIZES
THE LARGE BRICK FORMAT This year in the world of tiles it’s all about the ‘kit-kats’. Gone are the days of metro and traditional bricks – kit-kats are the slightly thinner and longer version of the ever popular format. Be on the lookout for the new size, 90x30mm, giving them a more sophisticated and elegant look. CREATIVE TILING PATTERNS In 2017 be sure to opt for innovative, exciting tiling patterns. Instead of the traditional brickbond pattern, try the herringbone style - a layout that’s set to be big in the coming year. HEXAGONS If you’re planning to be bold with shapes, 2017 has lots in store for you. Consider some stunning hexagons - they are going to be seen everywhere this coming season and they suit all styles of interiors. Yes, even the classic Victorian interiors where you can use Original Style’s hexagonal Victorian Floor Tiles, paired with staggeringly beautiful traditional borders.

PATTERNS
Pattern is big right now, both fashion and interiors. You will see modern zigzags resembling the Art Deco style, some micro-florals and Moroccan inspirations as well. Tiles are an excellent way to add instant colour and pattern to a scheme and – quite frankly - there’s nothing more stunning than walking into a kitchen or bathroom and seeing a statement floor.

CLASS & SCALE
Large format tiles are becoming increasingly popular. They are great for making a room appear bigger and if you choose light-toned tiles then they will also lighten up a room that lacks in natural light. Natural stone replicas – such as marble-effects – are both classy and timeless. If your budget is limited opt for the Bianco Paonazzetto glazed porcelain tiles in natural, available in five different sizes (with 900 x 900mm being the largest). They offer the beauty of marble but without the cost, and they also fit into the increasingly popular return of natural materials. The finished effect is simply stunning and certainly recreates a luxurious hotel chic style. Team with shades of grey and gold fixtures for that extra bit of zing. DÉCOR Magazine

The Android radiator designed by Daniel Libeskind and Pioli radiator designed by Andrea Crosetta have been awarded the Red Dot Design Award in the ‘Product Design 2017’ category.
Pioli
The ‘Red Dot Design Award’, which is split into the Product Design and Design Concept sections, is one of the most prominent design awards in the world, conferred by the German Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, among the most prominent international institutions which has encouraged designers, manufacturers and companies to create products with an increasingly sophisticated, contemporary and ethical design since 1954. Every year, an international jury comprising a panel of designers and industry experts gets together to assess and award products that comply with specific criteria of innovation, functionality, shape and material. The selected products are then included within the permanent collection at the Red Dot Design Museum.
Android
Antrax IT was awarded for the design, technology and superior quality standards of its Android and Pioli radiators. Android is a designer radiator with sculptural features and sophisticated technology, affording high heating efficiency, that places a major focus on sustainability issues, coined by the creativity of Daniel Libeskind. It is a radiator that is ‘told’ by its volume, with its unexpected geometrical facets that appear to be made from a sheet of paper, folded and folded over again. Android is made of 100% recyclable material using purpose-devised technology. Its operation requires very limited water content and it is guaranteed by a circuit that Antrax IT has patented, which allows it to be fully operational very quickly and accomplish considerable energy savings. Android makes it possible to customise its surroundings, indeed it is produced in over 200 different colour variants and it can be installed both horizontally and vertically; it can be accessorised with a dedicated steel towel rail when fitted in a bathroom. Pioli, designed by Andrea Crosetta, is a radiator that teams classical with modern, just like a ladder joins two separate levels together. Its design is an amalgam of different suggestions and recalls the archetype of the rung-ladder with originality (Pioli is Italian for rungs). The functionality and versatility of this age-old object is also confirmed by this designer radiator: its
shape makes its floor positioning instinctive, and it can be anchored to the wall using dedicated stainless steel fixings, yet Pioli can also simply be installed on the wall like a traditional heated towel rail. Two ‘rails’ in carbon steel, extending to 207 cm, represent the guides in which the rectangular-section ‘steps’ are welded unconventionally: grouped together in series of 3, they skilfully modify the traditional configuration to produce an eclectic solution. Pioli can also be produced in over 200 different colour variants in the Antrax IT sample set.
product research and innovation by enhancing the value of its skills. The ongoing acknowledgements achieved at international level thanks to its designer radiators bear witness to the ability of Antrax IT to give rise to places of ‘warmth and well-being’ with radiators that, owing to their technology and design, blend in with contemporary architecture and interiors with character.
Having already won the Red Dot Design Award in 2010 with its Zero-Otto radiator, in 2011 with Teso and in 2015 with its Tavola and Tavoletta radiators, Antrax IT continues its journey focusing on DÉCOR Magazine

Shan Shui the Source of inSpiration The traditional Chinese shan shui landscape painting inspired Steve Leung to create the extravagant design with Swarovski crystals. In Chinese, the term shan shui refers to landscapes and is composed of the characters for mountain and water. Mountain landscapes, rivers and waterfalls are typical shan shui elements. Steve Leung has given shan shui a contemporary twist for the Octagon and Squaro Crystals Edition, full of poetry and completely serene. It has resulted in a wonderful liaison between brilliant cut Swarovski crystals, whose arrangement subtly recreates mountain contours, and the finest leather that gently coats the Octagon pedestal washbasin and the Squaro Prestige bath panel. Leung has managed to unite natural premium materials with exquisite craftsmanship to create a design radiating self-confidence and sensuality while maximising the visual and tactile experience. Sparkling cryStalS Steve Leung’s design portrays mountain and water silhouettes using thousands of Swarovski crystals on the Octagon and Squaro Prestige. Leung chose Swarovski Xirius Rose crystals in the three sizes 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm, which glitter brilliantly thanks to their special cut. Lovingly crafted, nearly 5,000 of these crystals were applied to the leather for the bath and more than 1,000 for the washbasin. They create a vivid effect of depth that appears even more magical with the sparkling precious crystals. Today, after more than 120 years, Swarovski, the Austrian family-owned and –run company, renowned for the quality and technological innovation of its precision-cut crystal, pays homage to the company’s rich history and heritage, inspired by the spirit of its founder Daniel Swarovski. Octagon and Squaro Prestige are not the first Villeroy & Boch premium products to have been refined with Swarovski crystals: various models in the LaFleur exclusive taps and fittings collection are also available with Swarovski crystals.
octagon and Squaro preStige An octagonal shape – the symbol of perfection since antiquity – has been given precise angles and thin walls for the Octagon pedestal washbasin. Thanks to the innovative TitanCeram material, a basin was created with an elegant Edelweiss Matt finish, complemented by delicate facets and a brilliant cut. The free-standing Quaryl® Squaro Prestige bath is a refined version of the exclusive Squaro Edge 12 bath and represents elegant uniqueness. Every single product has been painstakingly decorated by hand in a German factory. It comes in a choice of real wood veneers made of Rouble Burl Wood, Satin Walnut, Yew, European Oak and Smoked Oak, making every single bath a one-off. “Villeroy & Boch worked with Steve Leung in 2015, which caused quite a stir in the Asia Pacific region,” explains Xiaoming Bai, Brand Management Bathroom and Wellness at Villeroy & Boch. “We are confident that our latest collaboration will continue to increase the awareness of Villeroy & Boch as a European premium brand.”

CRISP, SLEEK & BOLD Blending an engineer’s sense of functionality and an artist’s appreciation of form, Martin’s contemporary take on traditional design moulds perfectly with Drummonds’ classic, handmade luxury bathrooms. Born in Stockholm, Martin Brudnizki moved to London in 1990 to study Interior Architecture and Design at The American University. After working for a number of renowned architects and designers, Martin established Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS) in London in the year 2000 before opening a New York Studio in 2012. Martin has been described as ‘one of the best restaurant and hotel designers of his generation.’ Alongside interiors, Martin has designed bespoke product collections, with recent collaborations including work with Drummonds, The Urban Electric Company and The Lacquer Company. The Martin Brudnizki Collection for Drummonds was launched in September 2015. Kaitlin Krull of Modernize offers her review of the collection in full. When it comes to bathrooms, we at Modernize know that creating a beautiful, luxurious space is often easier said than done. While the intricate details of traditional Victorian bathrooms seem to corner the interior design market, some homeowners would rather add a more crisp and contemporary style to their bathrooms. The Martin Brudnizki collection at Drummonds takes traditional bathroom design and turns it upside down in order to create modern pieces that are every bit as luxurious as their Victorian counterparts. Contemporary Design Aesthetic Traditional and modern product design come together in the bathroom fixtures introduced by Swedish-born interior architect and designer Martin Brudnizki in his newest Collection for Drummonds. This collaboration marks the first project from Brudnizki’s new London-based product design studio ‘&Objects’ and is a departure from the traditional style of a Drummonds luxury bathroom. Like most modern bathrooms, the Brudnizki collection boasts crisp, sleek lines and bold, simplistic design while maintaining a classic, luxurious feel. All four of the Brudnizki pieces featured in his Drummonds collection define modern luxury by combining traditional and contemporary styles to create one-of-akind, bespoke pieces.
the Derwent Light The Derwent Light channels Brudnizki’s penchant for vintage luxe. The double version consists of two symmetrical fluted glass shades are pinched in the middle creating a bow shape which can be used horizontally or vertically. The single version can be used either way up for ‘up’ and ‘down’ lighting your bathroom. The glass is hand blown and the metalwork is hand fabricated, making each light a unique piece.
the tyburn Stone bath tub The Tyburn bath is the centrepiece of Drummonds’ collection with Martin Brudnizki. A departure from cast iron, the bath is formed from 80% natural stone which gives it its sweeping curves and uniquely silky smooth finish. Symmetrical on the outside, the Tyburn has an asymmetric interior with two differently shaped ends; one sloped for reclining and one more upright for sitting up. The profile features a distinctly rounded edge, subtly scooped for a comfortable headrest when bathing.
the Derwent PenDant Light The Derwent light has been designed The Derwent Pendant by Martin Brudnizki specifically to complement the current Martin Brudnizki range. Suspended from the ceiling, the Derwent Light comes with a beautiful fluted glass shade.
the Derwent Vanity Mirror Part of the ‘Martin Brudnizki for Dummonds’ Collection, The Derwent Mirror channels Brudnizki’s penchant for vintage luxe. This large, fixed mirror has been designed to bring a contemporary edge to the collection. Frame it with Derwent Lights for a stunning focal point in your bathroom.
the LaDybower Vanity Elegant, light and modern, and with classic white marble the Ladybower is another product from the collaboration with interior architect and product designer Martin Brudnizki. The thin drawing of branching veins, the most intimate and ethereal part of leaves become the impressive canvas for the structure of the furnishings in painted aluminium, a pure wireframe revealed, in all its simplicity, in the Paros small tables with crystal top, in the Ios vases and in the Chios lamps and lanterns. Light and delicate compositions which meet textured materials, with cutting-edge technical feature, in the Samos armchair and sofa, in the soft Evia chaise longue and in the evocative Hydra armchair with hood cover. A different aesthetics, warm and welcoming, leads to a blurring of boundaries between indoor and outdoor, which become contact points for a line with a wrap-around look. Here, full volumes triumph over empty spaces and materials play a decisive role in the narration. The warmth of teak, midway between classic and contemporary, meets stainless steel details and stone tops in the Tahiti small tables. Texture become the essential spark for Cook cachepots and the Tonga container, which are completely lined. The upholstered armchair and sofa Figi, covered with contrast fabrics, one for the inside and another one for the outside, recall a new design concept where boundaries blend and come together in perfect harmony: furnishings conceived to portray the contemporary living between indoor and outdoor, a perfect choice for open spaces, terraces and winter gardens.

After travelling the world designing and manufacturing stunning commercial interiors for retail stores, offices and restaurants, the Oli & Grace team wanted to translate their experience into the home market. With busy lives and young families, they wanted to create furniture that wasn’t mass produced, made from veneer and chipboard or overly expensive. Something different and individual that was unique to the owner and which didn’t require hours of assembly. They decided to commission a small collection, which would look good in any home and complement the individuality of the owner. The collection has grown to include a range of home products and will continue to grow.

NORDIC STAPLES FOR THE GARDEN
Oli & Grace look to the cool Nordics for inspiration in their first foray into the world of garden furniture and matching accessories. With a natural simplicity at its core, the Monaco deck chairs, bench and side table, are made of real wood and hemp rope. It’s this unique, organic appeal, and the fact that all wood is sourced from sustainably managed forests, that ensures
they slide seamlessly into the Oli & Grace portfolio. The striking Monaco deck chair is Nordic design at it’s best: minimal and hardwearing. It is available in three colours and woods: Grey Pine, Brown Pine and White Birch. The slatted design reclines for comfort, but also has a more rigid ‘straight up’ setting. The optional addition of a linen pillow makes these folding chairs even more comfy.
The Monaco chairs offer the perfect leading piece for any outdoor space, to create an environment you can completely relax in. Placed next to large planters and accessorised with some colourful lanterns, they will allow you to create a sunspot worth talking about, even in the smallest of spaces. Too good to be hidden away in a garage throughtout the cooler months, the chars are ideal for indoor use too. They’re suited to a conservatory, sunroom, terrace or sauna (if you’re lucky enough to have one), as well as the patio and garden. The chairs also fold away for ease of storage and transport. The Monco deck chairs arrive flat packed, ready for assembly on arrival. No tools are required as the chairs are assembled with their flexible hemp rope. Although assembly is straightforward and full instructions are included, Oli & Grace offer an assembly service for £15 per chair. Price: £130.00–£160.00
The perfect accompaniment to the Monaco deck chair, the matching Monaco side table doubles as a footstool to provide maximum comfort to lounging sun seekers, or a small support for drinks or books. Made from the same Pine or Birch wood as the deck chairs, the side table/footstool is assembled easily and made of a the same simple wood/rope composition as the deck chair. Price: £75
Completing the new garden collection is the multipurpose Monaco bench. Made from wood and rope, the bench is intrinsically organic with a striking, minimal silhouette. Arriving flat-packed, it is easily assembled without the use of any tools. This versitile bench could be easily placed in the hallway, bathroom or conservatory, as well as the patio to provide extra seating or a makeshift table in the warmer months. Price: £120

Harmony indoors and out When people want to feel good and relax at home, they no longer wish to be confined inside. This means that attractive outdoor areas that can extend and upgrade living areas are in demand, especially on warm days. Reason enough to ensure that balconies, terraces, entrances and garden pathways are every bit as attractive as interior areas – and one way to do this is with ceramic tiles. Villeroy & Boch Tiles has developed special Outdoor Tiles made of high-quality vilbostone porcelain stoneware for this very purpose. Thanks to the fact that the designs of these tough Outdoor Tiles are coordinated with current ranges, they harmonise perfectly with the floors in living areas and allow the interior design scheme to be elegantly continued from indoors to outdoors. As they are colour-fast, light-fast and weather-resistant, they also retain their attractive appearance even after years of exposure to sun, wind

and weather– unlike natural stone, concrete or wood. Yet they also offer exceptional easy-care properties, because Villeroy & Boch applies the vilbostoneplus surface seal at the factory to protect them against soiling. One further advantage: Outdoor Tiles can be laid on different foundations, meaning that they offer a practical and elegant design solution for almost any situation. The ranges are in 60 x 60 cm format to choose from. Selected ranges are also available in the new 40 x 80 cm format.
BERNINA OUTDOOR: For a safe footing The design of the successful BERNINA range is reminiscent of the mica quartzite for which the Swiss Grison mountains are famous: A light natural play of colour, the fine sandy structure of the finishes with few veins and a discreet shimmer lend the range an attractive charm. BERNINA OUTDOOR can also be used as a harmonious link between a terrace area and the living area or to design an attractive pavement up to the main entrance with steps. Laying it loosely in a gravel bed can help to compensate for unevenness or slopes.
LODGE OUTDOOR: Naturally connecting indoorsand out For the LODGE floor concept, a design was developed that is evocative of authentic wood and all of the grains, colours and occasional knotholes that might be found in high-quality parquet. Whereas real wood – no matter how well cared for and regardless of impregnation – is constantly being transformed by the impact of the weather, this high-quality porcelain stoneware retains its attractive appearance even after years of exposure. X-PLANE OUTDOOR: A welcoming outdoors The design concept underlying the X-PLANE range is inspired by the original material characteristics of cement and exploits the design potential of ceramics to create a completely new look. Whether it is used in private areas as terrace tiling or for floor design in outdoor restaurants, X-PLANE OUTDOOR is perfect for all manner of layouts. X-PLANE OUTDOOR is available in three colours, that can be laid as single-colour surfaces as well as colour combinations, for instance to visually separate functional zones in the floor.
MY EARTH OUTDOOR: Design freedom The vilbostone porcelain stoneware range MY EARTH was inspired by the relief and structure of natural stone, creating a lively look of natural stone that has been interpreted in ceramic in four natural colours. The concept is of interest for both private and commercial properties: The structured tiles are ideal for harmonious terrace designs and also for creating courtyards as relaxation areas in administrative buildings, hospitals or healthcare facilities.

New tiles 2017: CÁDiZ OUtDOOR aND MiNeRal sPRiNG OUtDOOR For 2017 Villeroy & Boch is adding two new Outdoor Tile ranges that further expand the design possibilities. CÁDIZ OUTDOOR (above) and MINERAL SPRING OUTDOOR (right). Inspired by the flair of the renowned Andalusian city, the CÁDIZ range features a stone structure with a relief effect in three natural colour shades. The new Outdoor Tiles allow for the creation of lively floors with harmonious transitions from indoors to outdoors, making it possible to successfully join a kitchen-diner with a barbecue area, for example. The natural look of the MINERAL SPRING range is inspired by the fine markings of cross-cut, namely stone that has been cut against the grain – a very attractive choice for living areas and adjacent terraces or balconies.

Make the plants a bold feature but allow the hard landscape features to tie the whole design together
A well designed minimalist garden can effectively provide you with an extra room. The key elements to a minimalistic garden is that it should feature sculptures, architectural planting, lighting, water if possible and great vistas. The need for plants should be minimal as youraim is to create a structure as much as garden that said plants within a minimimal garden create a splash of colour. When using plants ensure they add to the landscape and not overwhelm it. Lightening plays an important part in creating a minimalistic garden, not only does it illuminate areas which would otherwise be kept hidden it also creates shadows and allows you to alter the gardens mood during the twilight hours enabling you to enjoy your garden during the day and night.

Use industrial elements to create a minimalist tidiness
Another element critical to creating the perfect minimalist garden is water. Water creates serenity. The soft trickling of water brings harmony to a garden and the reflectivity qualities of water can be used to your advantage in the design process with the use of chrome, glass or aluminum. It is important when creating a minimalistic garden you seek professional advise. A minimalistic garden may be easy to maintain but takes vision, and a keen eye to create. Steel, glass and concrete are all materials heavily featured in many minimalist gardens and combining these industrial elements if done incorrectly can create a stark barren landscape. The ultimate goal when designing a minimalistic garden is to create clean lines, pure form and a strong sense of space within an architectural environment.
