CHRISTIAN DIOR: DESIGNER OF DREAMS u Marking 71 years of dressing the world’s most stylish women the V&A will display the largest ever Christian Dior exhibition in the UK with couture gowns worn by Princess Margaret, Margot Fonteyn and Jennifer Lawrence.
15
LUXURY LIVING FASHION u
In February 2019, the V&A will showcase the largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever staged in the UK on the House of Dior – the museum’s biggest fashion exhibition since Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty in 2015. Spanning from 1947 to the present day, the exhibition will trace the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most influential couturiers, and the six artistic directors who have succeeded him, to explore the enduring influence of the fashion house. Based on the major exhibition Christian Dior: Couturier du Rêve, organised by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, the exhibition is reimagined for the V&A . A brand-new section explores for the first time, the designer’s fascination with British culture. Dior admired the grandeur of the great houses and gardens of Britain, as well as British-designed ocean liners, including the Queen Mary. He also had a preference for Savile Row suits. His first UK fashion show took place at London’s Savoy Hotel, and in 1952 he established Christian Dior London. The exhibition investigates Dior’s creative collaborations with British manufacturers, including Dents (gloves), Rayne (shoes) Lyle & Scott (knitwear) and Mitchel Maer (costume jewellery). It also focuses on his most notable early British clients, from author Nancy Mitford to ballet dancer Margot Fonteyn. A highlight will be the Christian Dior dress worn by Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday celebrations, generously on loan from the Museum of London following conservation work. The exhibition also brings to life Dior’s spectacular fashion shows staged in the UK’s most luxurious stately homes, including Blenheim Palace in 1954, of which several ensembles are now in the V&A’s collection.

Drawn from the extensive Dior Archives, the exhibition presents over 500 objects, with over 200 rare Haute Couture garments shown alongside accessories, fashion photography, film, vintage perfume, original make-up, illustrations, magazines, and Christian Dior’s personal possessions. It also showcases highlights from the V&A’s world-class Couture collections, including the iconic Bar Suit, gifted to the museum by the House of Dior in 1960 with the help of Cecil Beaton.
“There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much. I love English traditions, English politeness, English architecture. I even love English cooking.” Christian Dior 17
The exhibition highlights Dior’s total design vision, encompassing garments, accessories and fragrances. Flowers are emblematic of the Couture House and have inspired silhouettes, embroidery and prints, but also the launch of Miss Dior in 1947, the first fragrance created alongside the very first show. From horticulture to global travel and 18th-century decorative arts, the show reveals the sources of inspiration that defined the House of Dior’s aesthetic. From the daring designs of Yves Saint Laurent to the rational style of Marc Bohan, the flamboyance of Gianfranco Ferré, the exuberance of John Galliano, the minimalism of Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri’s feminist vision of fashion, the exhibition shows how each successive artistic director has stayed true to Dior’s vision of Haute Couture, while bringing their own creative sensibilities to the House. Oriole Cullen, Fashion and Textiles Curator at the V&A, said: “In 1947, Christian Dior changed the face of fashion with his New Look, which redefined the female silhouette and reinvigorated the post-War Parisian fashion industry. The V&A recognised Dior’s important contribution to design history early-on in his career, acquiring his sketches and garments from the 1950s onwards. The influence of Christian Dior’s design was all-pervasive and helped to define an era. In their own individual ways, each of the House’s successive artistic directors have referenced and reinterpreted Dior’s own designs and continued the legacy of the founder, ensuring that the House of Christian Dior is at the forefront of fashion today. More than seventy years after its founding, the V&A’s exhibition celebrates the enduring influence of the House of Dior and reveals Dior’s relationship with Britain.”

Every detail and styling element of this exclusive collection – including its sculptural, sinuous shapes and stitching – references the iconic Ferraris, their instantly recognisable exterior styling and exquisite interiors. To further underscore the link to the Prancing Horse, all three models – a Slip-on, an Oxford and a Chelsea Boot – have the same red piping detail on their heels. When it came to designing and developing the soles used in the collection, Ferrari drew on its wealth of experience with innovative technologies, choosing to craft them in Twill 2×2 carbon-fibre which is not only used in its cars, but also makes for ultra-comfortable driving in particular. THE ULTIMATE DIAMOND RING Sir Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, and renowned industrial designer Marc Newson has designed a unique diamond ring, which will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in Miami on December 5th with proceeds going toward the fight against AIDS.
Consistent with their mutual obsession with transforming raw material into objects of value, Ive & Newson’s design is singular, clear and uncompromised by the traditional metal settings and bands that have previously been required to create ‘diamond rings’. Theirs will be created by removing material rather than adding - an ambition made possible by the extraordinary scale of the stone which enabled the ring to be completely made of diamond. The process to create this solid diamond ring was indeed a mammoth task. Diamond Foundry America’s leading synthetic producer of diamonds faced a new challenge: to create a block of diamond with the dimensions necessary and to be polished into a ring of this size. No base plate of the required dimensions existed, and no existing earth extracted diamond would be sufficiently pure enough to allow growing a rough diamond of this size. To create this, it required coaxing the first ten atoms of a layer into believing that a certain rare metal is a diamond, these atoms would assemble into real diamond and allow the creation of diamond blocks of previously unprecedented size. This process was not previously considered possible. Through this process and Diamond Foundry’s plasma reactor technology, they managed to create the first diamond blocks of the required size for this design project. After this, the logistics of how to cut and polish a stone of this size needed to be established - a task that challenged Diamond Foundry’s Antwerp based master cutter who has polished some of the world’s largest diamonds. The shape and model of the finished stone are revolutionary since there were no guidelines, the cutters had to create it from scratch and the custom tools had to be ordered from a specialized diamond tools supplier in Belgium. The diamond block is faceted with several thousand facets, some of which are as small as several hundred micrometers with the finished ring having between 2000-3000 facets something never seen before on a single piece of jewellery. The ring will be auctioned by Sotheby’s during Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami on the evening of 5 December 2018 – with expectations to raise between $150,000 and $250,000 for (RED) in its fight against AIDS. 31

Creates ColleCtion inspired by the Uniform of QUeen elizabeth ii
British heritage brand Hawes & Curtis has partnered with the National Army Museum to create a limited edition collection that is fit for royalty. 44 LUXURY LIVING
The collection is inspired by the uniform Queen Elizabeth II wore as a young princess during the Second World War. From 1949 to 1953 Princess Elizabeth carried out her duties as an Honorary Brigadier in the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC) before resigning these appointments on becoming Queen in 1953. Hawes & Curtis was the shirt-maker chosen to make the khaki shirt and tie for Princess Elizabeth’s Women’s Royal Army Corps uniform in 1949. Specialising in luxury shirts and fine tailoring since 1913, Hawes & Curtis has been a favourite for royalty and the brand was awarded four Royal Warrants from The Duke of Windsor, King George VI and The Duke of Edinburgh. The uniform has been on permanent display at the National Army Museum since they acquired it in 1993, following the disbandment of the Women’s Royal Army Corps. Sophie Anderton, curator at the National Army Museum, said “Part of our role as a museum is to preserve our amazing collections for the public and future generations, but it is also about keeping those items relevant and sharing their history in new and different ways. Our partnership with Hawes & Curtis has given us the opportunity to look at the production of uniform, specifically the Queen’s, which they tailored items for, and uncover the heritage behind it. It’s very exciting to be working with the same tailor to produce new items influenced by the Queen’s uniform, and it also demonstrates the timeless inspiration that comes from army fashion.” Hawes & Curtis has taken the opportunity to showcase its phenomenal heritage by creating a limited edition collection inspired by Princess Elizabeth’s Army uniform. The brand has re-created a one-off replica of the original fine cotton uniform shirt, which is currently on display in the National Army Museum shop. The collection includes bespoke prints designed in honour of the collaboration. Printed silk ties and pocket squares are inspired by the regimental stripes on the Queen’s jacket. Contemporary women’s blouses feature a vibrant print inspired by the ribbons on the royal uniform. Cufflinks in the shape of Military buttons on the uniform jacket complete the collection. The collection is available to purchase in the National Army Museum shop, the Hawes & Curtis flagship store on Jermyn Street and online.

Thom BRowne LaUnches PRePPY LimiTed ediTion GoLf coLLecTion American fashion designer Thom Browne has unveiled a new golf capsule collection in Milan and it’s not something your atypical golfer would dare to wear on the green! Part of Browne’s sports minded series initially kicked off with his ‘Grand Slam’ tennis collection the new golf capsule draws inspiration from the traditional golf attire of argyles, high socks, and dimpled balls and reinterprets them into today’s modern world with some very avant-garde pieces. Tartan, light pink, blue, red, and navy tones dominate the colourway with some unusually pompom detailing, which is primarily influenced by vintage golf club covers making an appearance; pebblegrain shoes with kilt fringe and “golf tee” heels; blazers and cotton polo shirts with signature golf crests and pin flags on cardigans, leather goods and shirts all bring what was once a boring attire a very modern if not quirky look

PRESENTS ITS 2018 BLUE BOOK COLLECTION A celebration of expertly crafted and extraordinary high jewelry
Tiffany & Co. has unveiled its 2018 Blue Book Collection: The Four Seasons of Tiffany, a bold expression of creativity, craftsmanship and innovation. Composed of five themes—winter, spring, summer, autumn and colour theory. The new high jewellery collection draws inspiration from flora, fauna and the architectural complexity found in nature. With modern and graphic shapes rendered with rare techniques and exceptional gemstones, the Tiffany Blue Book Collection is a discovery of the unexpected. Each piece is a unique creation where visionary designs and the time-honoured talent of Tiffany artisans combine to create extravagant jewels that evoke dreams and defy possibilities. 58 LUXURY LIVING
Within the winter theme is one of the most exemplary designs, the never-before-seen ice motif, which required the most skilled craftsmen to study the beauty of irregularity and render it in diamonds. The illusion of ice was achieved by individually cutting each diamond into jagged, unique shapes that mimic an iceberg adrift on a sea of platinum. A magnificent yet delicate necklace is composed of over 91 total carats of 237 uniquely cut diamonds that connect like an intricate puzzle.
Emerald-cut aquamarines, over 10 total carats, and baguette and round brilliant diamonds
Necklace in platinum with baguette and round brilliant white, rare fancy blue gray and gray diamonds, over 63 total carats
The spring theme builds on the randomness and asymmetrical beauty of the natural world. The hydrangea designs reveal an intricate clustering of flowers, where groupings are off-centred and mixed-cut diamonds juxtaposed with fancy sapphires, tourmalines and tanzanite stones to create an ombre effect.
Necklace in platinum with an emerald-cut tricolor zoisite over 23 carats, round and marquise sapphires, over five total carats, and mixed-cut diamonds, over 36 total carats
Necklace in platinum with mixed-cut sapphires, over 75 total carats, and custom-cut diamonds.

In summer, the soft, fluttery diamond encrusted moths contrast against the bold, angular links and inspired by a 1940s tank chain. An 18k yellow gold bracelet anchors different size moths that appear to be in flight or landing, allowing the natural pattern and movement of these creatures to give this classic chain a modern update.
Emerald-cut tanzanite, over 27 carats, round sapphires, over eight total carats, and marquise tanzanites, over one total carat
Autumn reveals a lightness and interplay of gemstone colours and cuts. Vines that sprout and blossom in tandem with nature’s cycle can be seen in a stunning necklace where overlapping chains reveal a fern motif that emerges and gently unwinds down the back.
Earrings in 18k yellow gold and platinum with mixed-cut diamonds, eight total carats
Platinum necklace with nine marquise diamonds of over 5 carats, 333 round brilliant diamonds of over 5 carats and 85 diamond baguettes of over 21 carats
The utmost precision and attention to detail are required to express the simplicity and complexity of nature, from the range of tonalities and intricate geometry to the masterful artistry of high jewellery. The 2018 Blue Book Collection embodies Tiffany’s passion for elevating the beauty of nature and reinterpreting it through the unparalleled craftsmanship that has defined the jewellery house since 1837.

Other sustainable features include villa systems that automatically adjust lighting and temperature when occupants enter or leave, a fishing exclusion zone which is set at 200-metres around the resort to preserve the marine environment, and a special nursery which aims to protect more than 20 species of trees indigenous to the island. For foodies, there will be two specialty restaurants: Horizon – which will serve à la carte breakfast and dinners with an emphasis on French and French fusion fare – and the Beach Shack a place for guests to kick back and enjoy Khmer cuisine, seafood and light dishes. Those looking for wellness and rejuvenation will love the beachfront Spa Alila, offering classic Spa Alila holistic treatments that nurture mind, body and soul. Signature treatments will include Khmer healing techniques and local ingredients such as virgin coconut oil, to reflect its locality. TITANIC II COULD SET SAIL IN 2022
Australian billionaire Mr Clive Palmer, the Chairman of Blue Star Line has unveiled extravagant plans to build a replica of the ill-fated RMS Titanic. Back in 1912 the Titanic was the ship of dreams and for over a century Titanic’s legend has been powered by mystery, intrigue and respect for all she stood for. Deemed unsinkable Titanic was the largest and most luxurious cruise liner of its day but just four days into here voyage on the night of April 15, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland and sank killing 1,500 of the 2,240 passengers and crew. Blue Star Liners claim the new ship will be an identical copy of the infamous liner, and will have the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, complete with ballroom and Turkish baths and will follow the original planned route of the first Titanic carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, but she will also circumnavigate the globe, however one crucial upgrade will be the outfitting of enough life boats for the passengers on-board. The nine-decked ship will be home to 835 cabins, which could accommodate 2,435 passengers who will be able to buy first-, second- and third-class tickets -- just like in the original. It is claimed that passengers will find early 20th century-style clothing in their room should they wish to dress up and pretend they are aboard the original ship. No further details have been released as of yet..

A LUXURY RETREAT LIKE NO OTHER Nestled on Namibia’s Skelton Coast around the enigmatic shipwrecks that line the shoreline is Shipwreck Lodge a luxury retreat like nowhere else on Earth. A harsh environment this raw, rugged and impossibly remote slice of African wilderness, that has borne the names “The Land God Made in Anger” or “The Gates of Hell” where towering dunes and wind-swept plains roll as far as the eye can see, buffeted by the icy Atlantic seas seems an odd location to place such an exclusive luxury retreat, but it is in fact this unique blend of isolation and adventure that makes this resort so appealing. Surprisingly the Skeleton Coast is an area known for its extraordinary wildlife sightings although rare. First up are the desert-adapted elephant, digging deep beneath the sand for the last vestiges of water. Then, making use of the wells left behind by the pachyderms are giraffe, lion and baboon, and perhaps even a brown hyaena or two. There are also thousands of plants and insects that flourish in the sand, surviving from the moisture of the cold fog that drifts inland from the ocean. Incredible stuff – but that’s not all. Marine life positively thrives, feeding off the nutrients in the Atlantic, and the most iconic species are the Cape fur seals that line the rocky shoreline in large colonies. Birdlife is also prolific and you should most certainly pack your binos for Rüppell’s korhaans and Benguela long-billed larks. Further toward the coast, you should also be able to spot tractrac chats, as well as jaegers and skuas around the seal colonies.

During your stay, you’ll be able to explore the nearby dry riverbeds and interior dunes, learn about the history of the shipwrecks, and see the unusual plants and lichens that thrive on the foggy coast.

But what if that could change, Crystal Skye, billed as the world’s newest, biggest and most luxurious privately-owned charter jet designed specifically for air cruises is an ambitious spin-off of the luxury Crystal Cruises brand, better known for its ocean liners and, more recently, river cruise ships.
Transporting just 84 guests to some of the world’s most exotic and remote locations aboard a converted Boeing 777-200LR appointed with features more commonly found in luxury suites. The custom Crystal Exclusive Class seats fully recline to lie-flat beds, measuring 73.5 inches long, for maximum personal space and ergonomic comfort, while the expansive social lounge with stand-up bar, two divans and four dining tables with dedicated seating for six guests fosters friendly camaraderie among luxury travellers. Overhead lockers were removed to allow for a higher ceiling space while the plush carpet throughout the aircraft said to be nearly eight centimetres thick, allow passengers to enjoy the experience of walking barefoot through the aircraft. Six proper bathrooms with large granite countertops, deep sinks so you won’t get splashed, and Etro products. Crystal chose not to install showers – as found on the Emirates and Etihad Airbus A380s – as it wouldn’t be viable to store enough water for all 88 guests. However, the facilities are designed along the lines of luxury bathrooms found on the company’s cruise ships, with backlit mirrors and a lot of counter space. Piped-in music tinkles away while you change into your complimentary pyjamas. Beyond its abundant personal space for each guest, Crystal Skye was purposefully designed to maximize guests’ comfort on board. A dedicated social lounge with stand-up bar offers an ideal area to mingle with fellow travellers over small bites, fresh cocktails and fine wines Dining aboard Crystal Skye isn’t your average airline experience. The front of this 200LR-type 777 is taken up by a comfortable 24-seat restaurant, bar and lounge, at the rear there is a state-of-the-art gourmet galley and a 200-bottle wine cellar said to be the largest on any aircraft, anywhere. Cuisines are prepared by a dedicated executive chef in two state-of-the-art galleys and paired with an elegant premium wine list in addition there are two Crystal employees dedicated to overseeing food and beverage on every flight, plus one crew member in the forward galley to prepare F&B, two in the rear galley and another two crew members tasked as “runners,” who execute the various in-flight meals. To charter Crystal Skye costs around £43,000 an hour so a London-to-New York flight would cost around £350,000 which for a group of 80 works out at about £4,500 per head one way – about the price of a discounted first-class ticket on British Airways so for shorter haul flights to Europe it would be considerably cheaper perfect for a hen do or wedding

THE BILLION DOLLAR FRIENDSHIP u It was a venture that was concocted over drinks between Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney, nightlife entrepreneur Rande Gerber and real estate tycoon Mike Meldman. Their love of tequila and desire to create a smooth tequila that didn’t burn going down, could be drank straight up and most importantly didn’t create a dreaded hangover was how Casamigos was born.
111
LUXURY LIVING u
Named after Gerber and Clooney’s houses in Mexico, Casamigos roughly translates to “House of Friends,” and what was initially meant to be a personal project between friends as a house tequila to drink and share with friends soon evolved to became one of the fastest growing tequila brands in the world selling last year to Diageo for $1billion.
Their tequila pilgrimage began back in 2010, they did research, met with distillers, trialled samples, and did blind taste tests with their friends and family until they found a recipe with no burn at all. “It ended up being almost two years and 700 samples later,” Gerber said. “There was a point where we all chose one, and it was ours. Not only did we know we had something great that we loved, but all of our friends loved it as well.” Without even realising, Gerber said he and Clooney were bringing in about 1,000 bottles, and were told by the distiller that they needed to get licensed which they did and the rest well is history. Casamigos is currently available in Blanco, Reposado and Añejo. These small batch, ultra-premium tequilas are made from the finest hand-selected 100% Blue Weber agaves, grown in the rich red clay soil and cool climate of Mexico’s Jalisco Highlands for a minimum of seven years. After harvest, the agave piñas are roasted in traditional brick ovens for seventy-two hours before undergoing an extra-slow fermentation process over an additional eighty hours, nearly double the industry standard. Casamigos’ Blanco rests for two months, whilst Casamigos Reposado and Casamigos Añejo are aged 7 and 14 months respectively in the finest premium American white oak barrels, which have been carefully reconditioned after being used to age the finest premium whiskey. “Casamigos Blanco is crisp and clear, with subtle hints of vanilla and a smooth finish, Casamigos Reposado is smooth and clean with hints of caramel, and Casamigos Añejo is a perfect balance of sweetness from the Blue Weber agaves, layered with barrel oak and subtle hints of spice with a lingering smooth finish. All expressions are great served neat or on the rocks, and are the perfect base for premium cocktails,” says Gerber. Before going into the bottle, each batch is tasted and approved by our master distiller, Gerber and Clooney, to ensure the highest quality. Each batch is then numbered and signed by Gerber and Clooney and although the company was sold to Diageo, Gerber, and Clooney still remain heavily involved in the business. 112 LUXURY LIVING
“We worked on the creation of Casamigos Tequila with our master distiller in Jalisco, Mexico, for years and held many blind tastings until we knew we got it right. We’ve been drinking Casamigos with friends and family for over six years,” says Clooney.

CELEBRITY COLLABORATIONS Celebrity tie-ins with alcohol brands have existed for decades, at times endorsed by public figures even without the brand’s consent. While touring in the 1950s, Frank Sinatra sang the praises of Jack Daniel’s whiskey, and sales leapt as a result but in more recent years, celebrities have taken a more active role creating or buying their own brands
RYAN REYNOLD Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds announced earlier this year he was the new owner of boutique brand Aviation Gin. Aviation Gin describes itself as an “American gin,” boasting a botanical mix touted to be smoother and easier to drink when compared to London Dry gins. According to the company, he plays an active role in the dayto-day business and oversee creative direction as part of his mission to introduce the world to the great taste of Aviation. DAVID BECKHAM In 2014 Diageo announced a new single grain Scotch whisky called Haig Club, which was developed in partnership with soccer star David Beckham and British entrepreneur Simon Fuller. The whisky is bottled in a blue glass bottle, which Diageo said is inspired by the tradition of blenders using blue tasting glasses so the spirit can be reviewed on aroma and taste alone. BRAD PITT & ANGELINA JOLIE The superstar actors are the owners of the Miraval vineyard that they purchased in 2012 for a reported $60 million. Miraval Rosé is ranked 84th on Wine Spectator’s list of the top 100 wines of 2013 — the only rosé to make the list. Since divorce proceedings between the couple began there has been uncertainty surrounding the brand with rumours that the Château had been put up for sale – which is yet to be confirmed. MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY The Texas native teamed up with legendary Wild Turkey Distillery releasing a new whiskey, Wild Turkey Longbranch, a small-batch straight bourbon refined with oak charcoals and Texas mesquite – an homage to McConaghey’s home state. To develop Longbranch’s signature flavour, McConaughey and Master Distiller Eddie Russell spent two years testing and countless hours swapping notes to come up with the two charcoal filtration methods that gives the unique blend, made with 8-year-old Wild Turkey Bourbon, its smooth and smoky finish. JON BON JOVI Jon Bon Jovi and his son Jesse have collaborated on a family brand of wine Named Diving Into Hampton Water, named after the Bon Jovi family home in Main Beach in East Hampton the rose was produced in association with top French winemaker Gerard Bertrand and will retail at $25 a bottle.

The Chefs scour the globe for the finest ingredients in just the same way as Davidoff selects its tobaccos. Chefs and Master Blenders alike are intent on preparing their ingredients in order to combine them in bold, innovative ways to delight and surprise the taste buds of aficionados. Once they have perfected their creations, the greatest pleasure that these taste pioneers derive is from witnessing people’s reactions and bringing them extraordinary experiences.
u ‘Discipline and passion for your work certainly are the cornerstones of continuous success,’ says Chef Klaus Erfort, ‘but also the feeling of making guests happy. Seeing the smiling faces when they leave the restaurant in the evening is a consistent source of motivation. Davidoff knows no limits when it comes to finding new flavours. It’s the same with great Chefs, whose kitchens are their worlds. Only their imagination could restrict them when it comes to sourcing, preparing and fine-tuning the very best ingredients. In this respect, our Master Blenders and these five great Chefs share many beliefs as to the importance of the ingredients, the perfection of the preparation, the courage to take risks when exploring and the ensuing happiness when their results bring pleasure.
THE BLEND The Toro cigar draws on influences from the Dominican Republic and the Chefs’ home countries – Germany, Switzerland, USA, Great Britain and Hong Kong. The result is multi-layered and exquisite, rich and deep in flavour. Liquorice, oakwood, Szechuan pepper and leather give way to the warm intensity of coffee, cumin and chocolate with sweet, spicy undertones and culminate in end notes of eucalyptus and spice. Its wrapper is from the Dominican Republic and its binder Negro San Andrés from Mexico. The filler is a combination of Dominican (Piloto Visus, Yamasá Visus, San Vicente Mejorado Ligero) and ºNicaraguan (Estelí Visus) tobaccos.
AVAILABILITY The Chefs Edition – 50th Anniversary is limited to 5’000 boxes (50’000 cigars) worldwide and will only be available at Davidoff Flagship Stores and select Appointed Merchants only.

Of War and remembrance A company born just before the First World War, Montegrappa is especially sensitive to the significance of that great conflict. The company’s home region of Northern Italy was engulfed by it, while Montegrappa’s pens were part of the materiel, which participated in the confrontation and recorded the saga. No less than the great Ernest Hemingway used a Montegrappa pen during his war-time exploits as an ambulance driver for the Red Cross in Northern Italy, as did John Dos Passos.
123
LUXURY LIVING u
2018 marks a century since the end of the war, an anniversary that is being observed in every country embroiled in the campaign. For Montegrappa, the occasion is particularly moving, for it knows that soldiers sent hand-written missives from the front to their loved ones back home, many using Montegrappa pens. And their billets-doux would open with “My darling…” ITAL IA
ITAL IA
ITAL IA
In Italian, the greeting changes to “Mia Carissima”, the name chosen for the commemorative pen produced to remind us of what our forebears endured 100 years ago. Beyond its most apparent experiences of – and direct connections to – the First World War, Montegrappa, too, wishes to dedicate the Mia Carissima Limited Edition of only 100 pens as a dramatic tribute to the three battles conducted in our beloved region and hometown. Mia Carissima is fashioned from shiny Malachite Green resin with black accents and Sterling Silver trim. It is a reinterpretation of an historic Elmo pen that was available a century ago and originally produced entirely in ebonite. The new pen possesses a voluptuous form that presents a “simple” silhouette, a shape that fits perfectly in the hand. Recalling the design languages of a century ago, the signature clip reflects and is strongly influenced by past fashion. Slightly fan-shaped, it features a design with linear etching that epitomises the earliest awakenings of what would become Art Deco. Mia Carissima’s nib is made in 18k gold, adorned with filigree decoration, and is available in the writing grades of Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Oblique Medium, Broad, Oblique Broad, Double Broad and Stub 1.1. This writing instrument also possesses a secret - a technical innovation that still excites pen connoisseurs thanks to complexity that precludes its usage from becoming widespread, even a century later. Characteristic for this fountain pen and true to its vintage inspiration is its “safety nib system.” Through a special rotating mechanism, positioned inside the barrel, the nib is exposed when being used or retracted when not required. The original pen that inspired Mia Carissima, however, had to be filled with an eye-dropper, thus making the filling ritual rather laborious. It is for this reason that our engineers have developed a new filling system: for the new design, the ink supply is accommodated by an easy-to-replace, single cartridge. Every special edition produced by Montegrappa is dear to the company, but few evoke so strongly the company’s formative years. Mia Carissima embodies the era of Hemingway and Dos Passos, the war that engulfed Europe and – most poignantly – the many thousands, or even millions of letters that allowed soldiers to communicate with those they left behind. THE FIRST IPHONE XS IN THE WORLD WITH A MECHANICAL SKELETON WATCH Russian luxury brand Caviar have introduced the first iPhone in the world connected to a watch with an open mechanism — Caviar Grand Complications Skeleton. The unique development by Caviar is inspired by the idea of the connection of innovations and the future and classical traditions of the past and was expressed in the creation of an absolutely unique iPhone XS body, where the mechanical skeleton watch is functioning. In this way, on the one side, you use all the technical possibilities of the modern iPhone, but literally on the other side of its body, you have a mechanical watch with an accurate mechanism open to views at your disposal. The Grand Complications collection is inspired by the luxurious tradition of the world of watches, according to which, the watches with complications are the top of the evolution and the source of pride of the greatest watch giant brands. Caviar decided to “complicate” the smartphone with a mechanical watch first, and in the future to continue the series with other improvements borrowed from the world of watches. At the moment, in the collection 3 models are presented: Caviar Grand Complications Skeleton Black & Gold — in the combination of black color and gold, Caviar Grand Complications Skeleton Titanium — with the predominance of titanium elements, Caviar Grand Complications Skeleton Pink Gold — with the use of luxurious rose gold. The back panel of the smartphone is decorated with figures, fancily repeating the construction of a clockwork mechanism and complemented with a Swiss clockwork mechanism, the work of which is open for views. For the aesthetically perfection, the mechanism is improved by Caviar masters – the platinum is covered with guilloche work and engravings. The mechanism is winded manually. Every design will be issued in a limited edition, only of 99 exemplars. Prices starts from $5990

VERTU MAKES A COMEBACK Luxury phone manufacturing VERTU has unveiled a new phone the Aster P, after more than a year since the company went into bankruptcy. The Aster P range continues the brand’s reputation for pairing ostentatious designs with high-end specs. Handmade in England, each phone is built by one craftsman and his signature is engraved on the phone. The Aster P has a grade-5 titanium frame and the display is covered in a single piece of 133-carat sapphire crystal glass. Titanium is twice as strong as steel but weighs much less and sapphire is next to diamond when it comes to hardness. The back is covered in leather types (crocodile and lizard) and colors, and the ruby red concierge button associated with the brand is still there. The Aster P has dual SIM support (nano only) and both SIM compartments open like gull-wing doors. Under the “door” is the signature of the craftsman that made the particular unit you purchase. Under the hood the new Aster P is an upper mid-range phone as it has under its hood a Snapdragon 660 processor. There is 6GB of RAM, triple that of the original model; and 128GB of storage, double that of its predecessor. The screen is a 4.9-inch AMOLED FHD panel. Above it sits a 20MP f/2.2 sensor and on the back is a 12MP camera. The Vertu Aster P runs Android 8.1 Oreo and packs a 3,200mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. It has a USB-C port, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual-band Wi-Fi with support for a wide range of LTE bands. The Vertu Aster P starts from $5000 and this price is only for the hardback version because the Gold version already goes for the $14,000 for having a smartphone with a genuine titanium jewelry with gold accents and crocodile skin lining, while the screen is lined with 133 carat Sapphire glass. THINKING OF BECOMING A COIN COLLECTOR? There are many reasons why people look towards alternative investment opportunities and one of the biggest increases in forms of alternative investing has been in coins, it is estimated that coin collecting equates to a worldwide $100 Billion dollar industry per year.
Whilst it is a hobby that doesn’t immediately pay dividends, it is one enjoyed by multiply generations where gains are fully appreciated over a period of time. Collecting coins is no different from collecting a certain type of artwork, or first-edition books, or vintage stamps. Everyone has a different reason for collecting coins. That said, there are two main reasons people do it: for personal enjoyment, and/or as an investment. Unlike other investments coin collecting transcend decades, centuries, and of course generations, it’s a way for a 70 year old grandparent and a 7 year kid to relate. Sets can become family heirlooms, a collection of coins or proof set today may help set up a family members 100 years from now. 138 LUXURY LIVING
Investing time and money into a coin collection is not a short term way to “flip” some money. It’s a long term strategy. People who collect coins can amass a huge number of small investments over a period of time that are increasing in price. So it’s easy to see why many people are drawn to this solid and reliable asset. But it’s important to know everything before investing your money.
So, is coin collecting a good alternative investment? ThE PrICE CorrElaTES If you’re looking for ease and simplicity, investing in coins might just be the best decision you ever make. There is no better way to keep things simple. one of the main reasons for this comes back to the strong price correlation of coins. When you want to calculate the value of your coin, you just look at the stock market prices of gold or silver. That means that you can make snap decisions and new investments very quickly and easily. The whole process is a lot more laboured and complicated when you have to factor in lots of different variables that may affect an investment.
a TangIBlE aSSET There is something to be said about having something sold within your possession. So even when the stock market tanks your coins will hold their value and in many instances increase in value as investors rush towards commodities such as silver or gold. When investing in shares there are all kinds of outside elements that factor into the value and security of your asset. If something goes wrong within the markets, you will pay for it and there’s nothing you can do about that. This is one of the big risks of investing in shares as opposed to an actual physical asset.
SalEaBIlITy no matter how bad things get or what the stock markets are doing, it’s always easy to sell gold coins. This is something that really doesn’t change. This means that they are highly liquid. Even in the event of a major crisis, there will be no trouble shifting them. a lot of this is thanks to the fact that they are physical, and there will always be people out there who are willing to back them. In fact, people tend to buy coins and gold even more than usual in a crisis. They see them as safe havens, and this can be very good for people who are looking to sell gold during a crisis of some kind.
laST BUT noT lEaST - CoIn CollECTIng IS fUn! There is something extremely satisfying about having a collection of little treasures: small, intricately designed pieces of beautiful art that you can display and look at, any time you wish. you can also learn a lot from collecting coins. over time, you may find yourself delving into history books, learning about politics, different cultures, iconic individuals and milestone events. Studying coins and their backgrounds can lead to a whole other passion for learning new things! Moreover, collectors find a lot of pleasure in the “treasure hunt.” It can require a lot of research, but it can be really exciting to eventually find that perfect coin for your collection. 139

GORDON RAMSAY Tender turkeys World-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay may not be the nicest cook in the kitchen but his take on tackling a turkey over the Christmas period has become a Christmas classic. His delicious, easy to make turkey is flavoured with lemon, parsley and garlic. Gordon says: ‘This is my favourite way to roast turkey – with a savoury butter under the skin to keep the breast meat moist and flavourful. To ensure both the turkey and pork stuffing are cooked properly, I bake the stuffing separately. Another of my secrets is to rest the turkey for a couple of hours or more. As it relaxes, the juices are re-absorbed, making the meat succulent, tender and easier to carve. It may seem like a long time, but the texture will be improved the longer you leave the turkey to rest. Piping hot gravy will restore the heat.’ This recipe takes 3hrs to prepare and cook and serves between 8-10 people. Any leftovers would make a delicious curry the next day!
TOP TIP To add the seasoning with your hand, loosen the skin on the breast of the bird from both ends of the bird so that you can stuff the flavoured butter underneath it then from the outside of the skin, gently massage the butter around the breasts so it is evenly covered.

HESTON BLUMENTHAL Roast potatoes wait for no one! Michelin starred celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal owner of The Fat Duck in Bray and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is known for his weird and wonderful concoctions but when it comes to Christmas dinner Blumenthal is all about the humble potato. Forget the hassle of the hasselback or the time-consuming triple-cooking method. When it comes to roast potatoes, Heston Blumenthal keeps it simple. Step aside roast dinner, Blumenthal insists that when the potatoes are ready, everything else needs to be ready. Accompanying veg can be pre-cooked and reheated at the last minute, while Blumenthal says you can rest a roast chicken for a minimum of 45 minutes: “It’s surprising how it keeps its heat, and it will be more moist and juicy.” At 180C, roast potatoes can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes, and “always take longer than you imagine. Always.” Blumenthal prefers an Arran Victory or Maris Piper potato. When cutting your potatoes make a judgement, but an avocado-sized potato could be cut into eight pieces. Remember: the more flat edges, the better. “Worst of all is just a round potato, because with a round potato, you haven’t got any corners and edges to get crisp.” Blumenthal says “trendy” duck or goose fat gives good results, but if you want your potatoes to go “really, really crispy” use beef dripping – his favourite. Finally to add a touch of flavour Blumenthal insists that you should hold off on adding rosemary and garlic to prevent it from burning. “The easiest thing is to smash the garlic and chuck that in with the rosemary 10 minutes before the end.” Instead sprinkle the potatoes with table salt after roasting and serve with flaked salt at the table for extra crunch.
TOP TIP If using fat you need to render it. “Fat doesn’t go into a potato unless there’s a crack. And for the crust, it’s all the [fat] going into the little cracks that give the potato the really sort of glass-like, juicy crust.” 148 LUXURY LIVING
MARCO PIERRE WHITE Spare a thought for sprouts Just the mention of his name is enough to make most cooks quiver with fear but Marco Pierre White believes that the trick to creating perfect Christmas dinner is by keeping it simple. Dubbed the “enfant terrible” of the British restaurant industry Marco was the first Britan and youngest chef to achieve three Michelin Stars - before he famously gave them up four years later. Extremely passionate about food Marco mow owns more than 35 restaurants across the UK so his method to creating the perfect sprout is somewhat surprising, as while most chefs would harp on about using organic produce and “fresh” Marco believes achieving the most flavoursome sprout is not about whether its fresh or frozen (the dreaded word!) but how it is cooked. “I like sprouts cooked in a little water, butter and a stock cube. Steam the sprouts first for around eight minutes, until they’re slightly soft. Then in a frying pan, heat a few tablespoons of water with a few good knobs of butter and a stock cube - chicken’s best, vegetable if you’re vegetarian - and when it’s hot and emulsified, throw in the sprouts and toss in the liquid for a few minutes. Absolutely delicious.”
TOP TIP Organisation is key to running a smooth kitchen and achieving great results. Sprouts should be one of the last things you cook to ensure they don’t become rubbery. And should be steamed while your turkey is resting and your parsnips, potatoes and vegetables are finishing off in the oven just before serving so they are piping hot

HUGH FEARNLEYWHITTINGSTALL Break with tradition Not your average celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall first sprung onto our screens back in 1997 with River Cottage and since then he has tried to educate us with his mantra of fresh, organic and wholesome foods. He’s not fussy or fancy rather the opposite casual and laid back springs to mind which is why at Christmas he thinks we should all ditch the traditional Christmas pudding for something simpler like a Christmas Roulade. A playful interpretation of a yule log where fragrant pears and creamy chocolate combine with fluffy meringue in a show-stopping pud that’s extremely easy to pull together To start Hugh suggest making the poached pears by placing the pears in wine, water, sugar and vanilla into a large saucepan over medium-high heat until the pears are tender but not falling apart. In a scrupulously clean bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff gradually adding the sugar the mixture becomes very, very stiff and glossy. Bake for eight minutes, until golden. For the creamy chocolate sauce melt the chocolate mix with cream and the pears slices. Spread over the meringue, top with a layer of pears and sprinkle with almonds. Roll into a long log and hey presto done.
TOP TIP It pays to have a few festive tricks up your sleeve – and that means chocolate so don’t scrimp on the sauce, not only does this brings the dessert together but who doesn’t love chocolate! 150 LUXURY LIVING

Truffles are a gourmet delicacy, one of the most expensive and desired in the world. Foodies swoon over them, international top chefs search them out and bid for them at auction, and truffles are without a doubt one of the priciest and most precious food stuffs on the planet.
So, what’s the fuss?
Truffles have been found in Europe, Asia, North Africa, and North America, but only three species are commercially important. Historically, these musky, aromatic members of the mushroom family, irregular and knobby in shape, have been prized for their aphrodisiac and medicinal qualities, and as a delicacy. Truffles have been known to fetch upwards of several thousand dollars a pound and are best consumed raw within three days of harvesting. Truffles grow slowly about a foot underground and in symbiosis with host trees (either oak or hazelnut), so you can’t find them with the naked eye. They often require years to reach full maturity and their harvesting necessitates the assistance of pigs (historically) and dogs, more recently, who sniff out the best ones. (Pigs are more difficult to work with since they often will not only find, but also eat the truffle.) The mention of truffles conjures up images of the expensive French black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) from the Périgord region of southwest France, used in making pâté de foie gras, or the renowned odorous white truffle (Tuber magnatum) of Alba, in the Piedmont district of Italy. Although commercial truffles are more plentiful in Europe than in America, fewer are found there now than in the past. A harvest of 2,200 tons was reported in 1890. Three hundred tons were harvested in 1914, but lately only 25 to 150 tons per year have been found. To enjoy the wonderfulness of the variously described pleasure of dining on truffles, you must eat fresh, uncooked specimens shortly after they have been harvested. The strength of the truffle flavour decreases rapidly with time, and much of it is lost before some truffles reach the market. The Italian white truffle is considered to be superior in smell and taste to the French black truffle. What does a truffle smell like? “A combination of musk, nuts, and ozone,” was one observer’s description. T. aestivum, a black summer truffle found in Germany, smelled to one observer like “a freshly opened can of creamed corn.” This black variety is not considered as choice as the other two European truffles. In Italy one Ping-Pong ball-sized Italian truffle has been said to have perfumed an entire apartment. The powerful pungency of this small tuber was such that some of the inhabitants were forced to flee! White truffles, Earth’s gold are typically valued at as much as €6,000 per kilo, which of course can inspire a big black market. Even legally, they can be outrageous in price most recently a 850g white truffle was sold at auction to an anonymous Hong Buyer for a staggering €85,000 The rarity and expense of the true white truffle means imposters are rife. Chances are, if you’ve tasted white truffle you’ve been eating chemically enhanced tuber borchii -- an inferior Italian truffle similar in appearance but incomparable in taste. 153
LUXURY LIVING DINING u
FIVE INTERESTING FACTS The Nose Knows While black truffles are cultivated much like any other fruit or vegetable, white truffles are, in fact, much harder to farm. In fact, finding these underground funghi is more akin to a treasure hunt, with specially-trained pigs (and sometimes, dogs) required to sniff them out. Why pigs, you ask? That’s because they scent out white truffles more easily since the fungus exude a smell similar to the male pig pheromone.
Diamonds of Alba Unlike black truffles, which are farmed in Britain, France and much of Western Europe, white truffles can only be found in Italy. More specifically, they’re almost exclusively limited to the Piedmont region on its northern border.
The Sex Appeal As with chocolate and oysters, white truffles have long been considered an aphrodisiac. So much so that during the Middle Ages, monks were banned from eating these heady morsels for fear that it would make them forego their celibacy vows.
Mankind has been relishing Truffles for nearly 4000 years. The ancient Greeks believed truffles were made when lightning hit soil and Egyptian ate them coated with goose fat. Romans believed in their therapeutic properties Truffles mysteriously disappeared during middle ages and came back during the Renaissance during the times of Louis XIV.
Beware Imposters Most truffle oils, a common and convenient substitute for truffles, actually contain no truffles at all. It is typically just olive oil artificially flavoured with the synthetic agent 2,4-dithiapentane. A common dirty trick is to pour this truffle oil over a dish in combination with a cheap, odourless truffle in order to trick the client into thinking he is eating a good truffle.

ONE CHEF THREE STARS www Spanish chef Dani García’s Marbella restaurant awarded coveted three Michelin stars in new guide Dani García has the world at his feet his self-titled restaurant situated in Andalusia within the luxurious Puente Romano hotel is the only establishment from Spain to be added to the legendary list with the highest rating.
u Locally born, the 40-year-old culinary prodigy has become synonymous for his tapas and Andalusian twist on seafood classics was awarded the coveted three stars for “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey” in recognition of his “unique way of reinventing Andalusian gastronomy in a contemporary form,” according to Michelin. The Spanish equivalent of Heston Blumenthal, Garcia is a natural experimenter who like Blumenthal uses liquid nitrogen to freeze temperatures to minus 196 degrees to create extraordinary and unique dishes. His dishes are a contrast of traditionally flavours and raw materials blended with modern day techniques present the avant-garde. His rise to become one of Spain’s most prominent chefs has been swift and is an obvious display of his talents, after training at the Malaga Catering School Garcia served his apprenticeship in the restaurant of Martín Berasategui. He then went on to open Tragabuches in 1998, his first restaurant, in Ronda, it was here that the young chef who at the age of just 25-years first attracted media attention and secured his first Michelin star. His move to set up Restaurant Calima in his hometown of Marbella, it was here that he developed his skills using liquid nitrogen in the kitchen, which won him the Technical Award of the Year in 2005 and the restaurants first Michel star (the second star followed 4 years later in 2011). With his innovative flair further expansion around the world followed but it was in 2014 that Garcia retuned back to his roots of Marbella and opened two new restaurants in the Puento Romano Beach Resort & Spa, under the Dani Garcia Group a young, fun and innovative brand born out of enthusiasm, a love for cooking, and a taste for things well done called Bibo & the Dani García Restaurant and now the Lobito de Mar Restaurant. Dani says his first culinary influences came from his parents: “I was very interested in cuisine and the world of gastronomy, probably through my parents. We went out a lot, every Saturday morning we went to the market, later cooked at home, then went out on Saturday nights, dining regularly at restaurants” so it was fitting that upon being awarded his third star Garcia spent time with his family “I cried with joy with my mother, my daughters, my partner, my team… I am very happy. After 20 years of work, this is another step up” said García. 157

BLENDED IN SECRET AND BEDAZZLED IN JEWELS - RARE LE SECRET CHAMPAGNE
Renowned for producing some of the world’s most exquisite wines, Piper-Heidsieck is one of the oldest Champagne houses in France with a rich heritage dating back to 1785 Blended in secret by Régis Camus eight-time Sparkling Winemaker of the Year , it was in 1997, as Cellar Master of Rare Champagne (the prestige brand of Piper-Heidsieck) he decided not to declare a vintage. Seeing something unique in the wines of that year, he chose instead to blend a small quantity of Rare 1997 in magnums only, and age them secretly in his private cellar. Now, more than twenty years later, the resulting champagne is something spectacular. Aptly named Rare Le Secret, its unique depth and complexity is characterized by an unusual, powdery nose, dazzling bubbles and a lively, Middle Eastern flavour, this truly special wine is deserving of its emeraldencrusted bottle. Designed by Mellerio, the oldest jewellery dynasty in the world, Mellerio produced two bottle designs for the remarkable champagne: Rare Le Secret High Jewellery and Rare Le Secret Goldsmith. Rare Le Secret High Jewellery features a single precious one carat jewel – a choice of diamond, ruby, sapphire or emerald – embedded in the heart of interwoven bands of gold set with 510 diamonds. Gold and platinum threads run down each bottle, representing the blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while the 24 carat, solid gold muselet is the very first of its kind in champagne. The presentation case is equally decadent, with a mirrored interior that reflects the cuts of the precious stones used in each bottle. Just ten magnums are available worldwide, for an eye-watering £115,000. Rare Le Secret Goldsmith is described as a ‘minimalist delight’. It is fitted as standard on the BMW X7 M50d and as an option on the BMW X7 xDrive50i and BMW X7 xDrive40i.

A NEW TREND OF LIVING AT SEA
176 LUXURY LIVING
Living on or near the sea is an alluring concept, and floating houses have become a popular ways of living in some parts of the world. For others there is a sense of romance of living on a floating home and over the past few years we have seen a number of luxurious floating home concepts come to market most notably Floating House.
177
LUXURY LIVING POWER u
However, Miami-based Company Arkup has taken this concept one step further and created an at-sea living solution, a ‘Liveable Yacht’ part yacht, part floating house and part luxury waterfront villa.
Created in anticipation of a future of flooding and rising sea level, the liveable yacht is a fully selfsufficient eco-friendly, hurricane-resistant home on the water that has the appearance of a luxurious apartment floating on the water. Wrapped in glass the luxury 404-square-metre, double-decker yacht boasts four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. A built-in communication suite offers 4G, Satellite TV, Wi-Fi and VHF radio. There’s a sundeck that fully immerses in water to become a protected sea-pool and a boat lift to remove your tender or jet ski from the water. In order to compete with conventional residential solutions, the Liveable Yacht offers a completely stabilised platform using extendable anchored hydraulic spuds, which can raise the structure several meters out of the water to protect from hash weather conditions, storm surges and even hurricanes. In fact, the Liveable Yacht solution has been designed to withstand wind speeds up to 135 knots. And when it’s time to move, the spuds can then be completely retracted into the structure to allow for comfortable cruising and entry into shallower waters. Powered by a 30 kW rooftop solar array that feeds up to 1,000 kWh of lithium-ion batteries, the twin 136-horsepower electric azimuth thrusters can provide a top speed of seven knots, allowing it to roam from location to location at a leisurely pace. And electric motors mean no fuel, which of course means no emissions! Other ecofriendly features include rainwater harvesting, waste management and water purification systems. The first Liveable Yacht is now anchored of the coast of Miami and is available for short or-long term charter. For those looking to purchase a floating home the starting price starts from $3.5million a comparatively small price to pay for both a yacht & waterfront property

Over the past 10 years, there’s been a discernible increase in private jet ownership and while jet ownership doesn’t come cheap for cash-rich, time-poor business travellers looking to skip airport queues, conduct meetings in the air, and flying at a moment’s notice, a private jet could be a worthwhile investment. Here showcase five of the largest, fastest and most luxurious private planes on the market right now.
AIRBUS ACJ319NEO INFINITO Gives wings to Italian style and elegance! Airbus Corporate Jets and the Italian hypercar Atelier Pagani Automobili have unveiled a new cabin design for the ACJ319neo, called Infinito, which means infinity in Italian. A key feature of the Infinito cabin is its sky ceiling, which can bring a live view of the sky above the aircraft into the cabin – or display other images. Décor is reminiscent of that gracing Pagani hypercars, with natural soft-leather carpets and a wooden floor contrasting with man-made carbonfibre in furniture and wall-frames - echoing the combination of art and science originally espoused by Leonardo da Vinci. Sculpted metal features, mirroring those found in Pagani hypercars, feature in light-fittings and other details, while light-emitting diodes (LEDs) enable different mood-lighting ambiances. Airbus offers the most complete range of business jets, derived from the world’s most modern aircraft family. This includes the new ACJ319neo, which will fly eight passengers 6,750 nm/12,500 km or 15 hours, the ACJ320neo which will transport 25 passengers 6,000 nm/11,100 km, or 13 hours, and the ACJ350 XWB which will carry 25 passengers 10,800 nm/20,000 km or 22 hours in its ultra-long range version.

DASSAULT AVIATION FALCON 6X Not only has Dassault Aviation redefined the private jet travel experience. It has created a new category: the ultra widebody business jet. A few inches can make a big difference in your overall comfort so cabin height in the Falcon 6X is 6-feet, 6-inches, the tallest in business aviation. The 102-inch-wide cross section – also the largest on the market – gives you more elbow room, more aisle space, a larger galley and deeper, more comfortable divans. There’s more space for individual seating, and greater privacy when desired, especially in the aft cabin during overnight flights. The wider aisle allows for easier movement between cabin lounges ideal if the jet is carrying its full occupancy of 16 passengers. The 6X’s maximum range is 5,500 nm (10,186 km), with a maximum speed is Mach .90. It is capable of flying at Mach .85 for non-stop flights up to 5,100 nm (9,445 km), including Moscow to New York, Paris to Beijing, Los Angeles to London. In addition, the 6X is very stable at the speeds and angles required at smaller airstrips, making take offs and landings safer and quicker. And as a final extra the Falcon 6X also has the first ever skylight in a business aircraft, providing valuable light to normally dark entrance and galley areas.

DESIGN AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN EXHILARATING HARMONY The inherent design, technology and performance features of the Huracán Performante are as fundamental in the Spyder, thus adding a new dimension of driving pleasure. Its open-top design clearly differentiates the Spyder from its coupé counterpart, with roof both open and closed. The Performante design cues of Super Trofeo race cars and performance motorcycles with their naked, open-frame streetfighter characters remind that the Huracán Performante Spyder is a super sports car as capable on the track as the road. The visible carbon fibre running throughout the aluminium body references the Huracán Performante Spyder’s lightweight character contributing to a weight reduction of 35 kg over the original Huracán Spyder. Like the Huracán Performante coupé, the Spyder features an enhanced suspension system; recalibrated ESC; more responsive Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS); permanent four-wheel drive maximizing traction in all situations in conjunction with the ALA system; and revised ANIMA: Lamborghini’s driver-mode system comprising STRADA, SPORT and CORSA, which customizes the set-up of all the car’s dynamic systems.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE With its inimitable 5.2 l V10 naturally-aspirated engine, the permanent fourwheel drive Performante Spyder accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in 9.3 seconds, and with a top speed of 325 km/h matches its coupé stablemate. Braking from 100-0 km/h is mastered in 31.5 m. Like the Performante coupé, the Spyder outputs 640 hp (470 kW) at 8,000 rpm, producing 600 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, and with more than 70% of torque already available at 1,000 rpm. With a total dry weight of just 1,507 kg, the Spyder returns a weight-to-power ratio of 2.35 kg/hp, with weight distribution front/rear of 43/57%.
THE HURACÁN PERFORMANTE SPYDER ROOF – DYNAMIC CONNECTION TO GROUND AND AIR The lightweight, electrohydraulic roof ensures the Huracán Performante open-top is a true Spyder, perfectly complementing the car’s distinctive lines both open and closed, and maintaining rigidity, handling and performance. Even as a convertible, the Huracán Performante Spyder maintains the stiffness of an ultra-performing super sports car. The roof defines the Performante’s dynamic silhouette while closed, and when down is efficiently stored to maintain the Performante Spyder’s perfect center of gravity, revealing the alter-ego aesthete of the open Huracán Performante Spyder. The roof opens in just 17 seconds up to a driving speed of 50 km/h (30 mph). The rear window can also be electrically opened, which functions as a windshield when closed. When the roof is down, the Huracán Performante Spyder’s design incorporates two movable fins, which rise out of the folding roof casing and continue the roofline from seatbacks to the rear of the car, lending the Spyder its distinctive silhouette. An integrated duct within the fins reduces turbulence in the headroom during open-top driving. Two additional, removable wind guards damp lateral aerodynamic pulsations, ensuring perfect acoustic comfort that allows conversation even at high speeds. The Huracán Performante Spyder, with roof open or closed, is equally a driver’s car in challenging dynamic situations, as well as a thrilling lifestyle experience. Available to purchase now the Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder will cost from: EUR 219,585 / GBP 195,078 / USD 308,859 193

Yachting - not just for the mega rich! Just over a decade ago the thought of holidaying on a yacht was considered a pastime for celebrities and the uber-rich, the cost of chartering a vessel would cost hundreds of thousands but, as times have changed this once privileged arena has opened up to the masses so now chartering a smaller superyacht can cost about the same price as you’d expect to pay for a luxury break on the French Riviera or a Caribbean island.
196 LUXURY LIVING
So what’s changed? The last 15 years or so have seen extraordinary changes sweep through the private yacht industry, with an explosion in the number of superyachts available to charter water and a change in perception by those who own them. Not so long ago a 150 foot yacht was considered extremely large and anything over 200 feet was simply enormous. But as luxury yachting became the pastime of the world’s elite a race ensued to see who could of course own the biggest and largest yacht. While the mega rich tried to outdo each other the 150ft yacht has seemingly become something of the norm no longer considered big. But with this increase in yacht building and a glut of yachts sitting in docks owners soon realised they could utilize their assets by chartering them throughout the season to offset the high costs of owning them thus meaning more vessels were available reducing the charter cost. The rise in Social media and online peer to peer websites have also helped to fuel the growth and demand in yacht chartering, BoatBound one of the first to build an “Airbnb for boating,” back in 2013 and Antlos, an online marketplace that puts boat owners and holidaymakers in touch, much the same as Airbnb and Uber have both seen a dramatic increase in demand. Previously chartering via well-established brokers was something of a laborious process, but today thanks to the power of the internet millennial’s one of the fastest growing segments targeted by nearly all luxury markets can charter a vessel with a simple swipe of an app. Take Click&Boat, a European online peer-to-peer company with more than 150,000 members and over 22,000 boats available to charter in 30 countries around the world – some with or without a captain. Rentals range from €55 ($68) a day for a small sailing boat in La Rochelle, France, to as much as €250,000 a week, including your own captain, for up to 12 people aboard a superyacht on the French Riviera So while traditionalists may snub peer-to-peer platforms on the one hand, yacht ownership calls for serious levels of financial commitment and recouping some of the costs by chartering your boat in this way makes a lot of sense and on the other hand, for those who want to go sailing but lack sufficient time and/or money resources to own a boat themselves, this solution also makes a lot of sense because yachting has never been more affordable and accessible then it is right now.

Yachting News u HAWK’S NEW EXPEDITION YACHT FOR YEAR ROUND EXPLORATION UK-based yacht designers Hawk Yachts has unveiled ANOTHER concept yacht, the new 68-metre (23-foot) explorer yacht which it hopes will be suited to year-round chartering.
The new Hawk Ranger will offer six staterooms, including a large owner’s suite and five guest cabins, able to accommodate up to 12 guests. With a top speed of 17 knots she will enjoy a cruising range of up to 6,500 nautical miles. Designed for penetrating ice fields, the Ranger will have a Polar Class 6 hull to break through 32 inches of ice, a reinforced ice belt along the waterline, a large boiler to keep the yacht warm in cold environments, heated seals on the exterior doors so they will not freeze over, large “expedition” side gates, and other features for journeying into the frozen wilds.
Hawk Yachts chief executive Matthias Bosse said, “This approach allows owners to run the yacht as a profitable business. The super-rich are no longer content to own trophy vessels that sit in harbour for 45 weeks of the year. Increasingly, we are seeing a desire to live and breathe experiences that are only accessible to the select few.” The news of Hawk’s latest concept arrives after the announcement of two other explorer yachts in January – the 5-metre Cape Hawk and the 75-metre Sky Hawk. Powered by a twin MAN 1,550 hp V-12 engines, the boat has a top speed of 37 knots and a cruise speed of 33. With its sleek styling and uncompromising power the new Ribelle 66 looks certain to be a rebel of the waves.

ROLLS-ROYCE DEBUTS ‘SPIRIT OF ECSTASY’ FABERGÉ EGG u From Kings and Queens to entrepreneurs, many of the most prominent and wealthy collectors of the 20th and 21st century have been beguiled by the lure of a Fabergé Egg. With just 50 pre-1917 Imperial Eggs completed, these exceptionally precious creations are some of the most valuable and coveted objects ever to have been made.

Now, in a contemporary fashion, a new Fabergé Egg has been created. Two of the world’s most esteemed houses of luxury have joined forces to create one unique objet d’art, for one discerning patron. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and Fabergé proudly announce the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ Fabergé Egg.
u
For the first time in history, an iteration of the Spirit of Ecstasy, the enigmatic mascot that has adorned Rolls-Royce motor cars since 1911, is cocooned in an exquisite, contemporary, Fabergé Egg. The design, conceived by Rolls-Royce Designers Stefan Monro and Alex Innes and rendered by Fabergé Lead Designer Liisa Talgren, has been brought to life by Fabergé workmaster Paul Jones, creating a contemporary interpretation of one of the world’s most fabled and prized possessions. The commissioning of a Rolls-Royce motor car is often a seminal moment for the patron, so too is the commissioning of a Fabergé Egg. Indeed, this ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ Fabergé Egg, the second to be commissioned in the ‘Imperial Class’ since 1917 – a category reserved only for Fabergé’s most illustrious creations – celebrates the history, heritage and legend for which both Rolls-Royce and Fabergé have been revered over more than a century. Both brands have navigated the vicissitudes of time and continue to produce the apogee of modern, highly sought after, true luxury items. The Egg is destined for the residence of a great collector of both brands. The Egg connects the elements that lie at the very core of each marque – the Spirit of Ecstasy, the illustrious muse that has guided each Rolls-Royce motor car for over a century, and the form of a Fabergé Egg, the pinnacle of ornamental expression. The masterpiece resulting from this distinguished collaboration reflects the extraordinary attention to detail and the consummate craftsmanship for which both brands are renowned to this day. A team of seven craftspeople from Fabergé undertook the challenge of fabricating the design using the finest materials married with their extraordinary skill as artist jewellers. At first glance, the Egg is unmistakable in its character. Design cues from Fabergé’s heritage are masterfully woven into the intricate design which stands at 160mm and weighs just 400g, with the Egg harnessing the ‘surprise and delight’ attributes for which Imperial Eggs are celebrated. 208 LUXURY LIVING

The Egg rests on an engine-turned, hand-engraved, purple enamel guilloché base of 18 karat white gold. Arms of rose gold define the shape of the Egg, acting as a protective chamber for the Egg’s precious inhabitant. Upon operating the movement via a discreet lever at the base of the stand, a sense of theatre ensues as the boughs open to present the fine figurine of the Spirit of Ecstasy, hand-sculpted in frosted rock crystal, standing nobly in her opulent surrounds. The rose gold vanes, embellished with nearly 10 carats of round white diamonds, resolve into swathes of natural amethyst weighing over 390 carats, specially selected for its colour saturation and quality. The purple hue of the enamel and amethyst provide a playful nod to the use of colour found in Fabergé’s heritage. The technical mastery of Fabergé prevails. The ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ Fabergé Egg adopts a highly complex operating mechanism, conceived through computer aided design and animation, developed with micro engineering. The success of this mechanism, and in turn the piece as a whole, can be attributed to the goldsmiths’ art as craftspeople and their ability to meld this skill with technology, creating a work of art that could not be created by man alone. The piece embodies both the artistic design and engineering skill that one expects from a collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Fabergé, and has probably the most complicated opening of any Fabergé Egg to date.
“
Sean Gilbertson, Chief Executive Officer, Fabergé said,
A unique moment in both our companies’ history, the creation of the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ Egg represents the meeting of two masters of unrivalled quality and design, showcasing two globally recognised symbols – the Fabergé Egg and the Spirit of Ecstasy.
“
Fifty Imperial Easter Eggs were created for the Russian Imperial family between 1885 and 1916. These creations are inextricably linked to the lives of the Romanov family. Ten Eggs were produced from 1885 to 1893 during the reign of Emperor Alexander III; a further 40 were created during the rule of his dutiful son, Nicholas II, two each year – one for his mother the dowager, the second for his wife. If we explore the great archives of Rolls-Royce, we find that Tsar Nicholas II was indeed also a patron of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

DIAMOND HILL a modern residence with classical features u In one of Kiev’s Luxury Apartments Complex Diamond Hill, the architectural and interior design studio YoDezeen masterfully employ a tasteful palette, design furniture and stunning contemporary artworks to compose a bespoke high-end design.

Kiev is one of the most ancient of Slavonic cities steeped in history. Aptly nicknamed the capital of the ‘Golden Domes’ the city has a cultural life extremely rich and diverse representing a wide range of experimental and traditional styles, it is these two contrasting styles that designers YØDezeen studio have used to create this stunning family residence. The apartment differs with expressive individual style, which organically connects modernity and tradition, innovative ideas and classical methods. It seems that luxury and functionality are mutually exclusive, but precisely the combination desired by YoDezeen customers. The original layout of the apartment presented to YØDezeen studio was situated on the residential estate Diamond Hill on Dnipro banks. Measuring 320 sq. meters there were no divisions, just a few supporting columns. For the architects and designers, this was a dream project on the one hand, they were given the freedom to work and exercise their talent; on the other hand, working on a period property presented a few issues with regards to drainage and structural issues. The main feature of the apartment was the large windows which provided breath-taking views and an abundance of light which YØDezeen studio used to maximum effect.
214 LUXURY LIVING
The public zones were created using dramatic combination of living, dining, and kitchen areas. Open concept allowed natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows insolating every corner of the space. The entertaining areas utilized eye-catching materials and design furniture that artfully united with sophisticated and quite palette. To make an interior more dramatic and intriguing, architects added spectacular pieces of contemporary art. For the contemporary fixtures, the choice of colour was golden diamonds: the design team got more freedom than they’ve thought because they were fully in charge of furniture, decoration, textiles and shade matching, including the exact choice for chandeliers. In this case, DelightFULL, a brand that reinvents the mid-century lighting with a twist every day and whose mission is to create unique lamps with a fresh taste of music, contemporary and unique reinterpretation, was the perfect choice. 215
For the atmosphere and colour palette of the bedroom, YØDezeen studio used the Janis floor lamp with her gold finish, inspired by Janis Joplin’s music “Best of The Best Gold”, Janis floor lamp recovers the golden jazz spirit of the 60’s and gives a modern and gilt twist to the Diamond Hill’s bedroom. This design fitted perfectly to highlight the room’s colour palette it also created a warm delicious and luxury atmosphere – said YØDezeen. In private area designers embodied the idea of effective combination of comfort, coziness and functionality. Throughout the interior, wooden floors, colour scheme and wall décor create a visual connection between public and private spaces. In a result the couple received an elegance home with intimate and personal spaces.
YØDEZEEN STUDIO YØDezeen studio is an award-winning architectural and interior design studio acting around the world and working in a variety of modern styles. LUXURY LIVING PROPERTY u
Kensington Palace Gardens, also known as Billionaire’s Boulevard, is the most expensive street in Britain. The average property price on this half mile strip of road overlooking Kensington Gardens is £41 million and at the top end homes can fetch £200 million or even more.
A general view of houses along Kensington Palace Gardens – named as Britain’s most expensive street However, a quick search for properties for sale at this prime address will draw blanks; the owners of these properties prefer to stay discreet for obvious reasons. Arguably the most famous address on this gilded stretch of road is Apartment 1A, Kensington Palace, the 20-room, four-storey family home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Although it is not exactly on the same street, their garden adjoins the residences lining Billionaire’s Boulevard. The estate closest to the Royal family’s residence belongs to the Russian-British billionaire and owner of the Warner Music Group, Leonard Blavatnik. In 2004 Blavatnik paid £41 million for a 13 bedroom and 9 bathroom house on Kensington Palace Gardens. After its extensive modernisation, which included construction of an impressive 25-metre swimming pool with indoor and outdoor sections, a gym, cinema, wine cellar and underground car park, it has been estimated at phenomenal £200 million making it one of the most expensive real estate in the world. Among Blavatnik’s richest neighbours is owner of Chelsea FC Roman Abramovich and Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. In 2004 Mittal bought a home on Billionaire’s Boulevard for £57 million, purchasing another property for his son four years later. At £117 million, it was the highest price ever paid for a London house at the time. In 2013 Mittal sold the second house for £110, at a £7 million loss. 228 LUXURY LIVING
8-19 Kensington Palace Gardens. This house was sold by Mittal in 2013.
Kensington Palace Gardens homes just a stone’s throw from William and Kate’s residence
Despite the stratospheric asking prices, homeowners don’t actually own the freehold to their properties. The land surrounding Kensington Palace Gardens belongs to The Crown Estate - the company that manages an extensive portfolio of land and developments owned by the reigning monarch. As the land belongs to the Queen, all properties on Kensington Palace Gardens are sold on a leasehold basis. Leasehold is a type of ownership where one partly buys the right to occupy land or a building for a given length of time. Properties on Kensington Palace Gardens are typically sold with an excess of 100 years left on the lease, but this can be less. Nevertheless, owning a house on the most expensive street in the UK has its major perks. A lowprofile and top security is a priority for the international super rich and Kensington Palace Gardens offers both in large quantities. There are armed police officers at both ends of the street - Kensington Palace Gardens is also home to a number of embassies - and is fortified by a grid of CCTVs, protective bollards and stringent security clearances which keep prying eyes and the opportunistic firmly out. So when was the last transaction? With marketing kept mostly offline and deals behind closed doors, it’s hard to know exactly who is buying what and when but it was around two years ago when the last headline-hitting deal took place. The road’s newest resident was a property tycoon from China who paid £80 million for a 10 bedroom property here - the biggest deal to date involving a Chinese buyer in London. Joining his neighbours in collective ‘uber renovations’, work is currently underway to restore the mansion which was previously home to the Nigerian High Commissioner. For those keen of sharing postcodes with some of the world’s oligarchs, tech billionaires and media moguls, Knight Frank is currently marketing properties at One Kensington Gardens which offers amazing views of Kensington Palace Gardens.

u A masterful study in engineering and construction, the house extends several stories below the original surface so that each roof forms a terrace to the adjacent upper floor. On top of all this, there is also a multi-levelled 1,301 square feet guesthouse with two bedrooms, two baths and its own individual access to each room. Luxury finishes and special touches include travertine stone floors that run continuously from interior to exterior, solid walnut flooring in the library and on the family room ceiling and suede wrapped walls in the primary master suite. The library contains a custom Ralph Lauren glass and stainless pool table. FORMER HEADQUARTERS OF GERMAN SECRET POLICE CONVERTED INTO COLLECTION OF
STUNNING LOFT APARTMENTS
The former headquarters of the infamous East German Secret Police (commonly known as the Stasi) is being spectacularly transformed into a collection of 50 modern loft-style apartments. 257
LUXURY LIVING PROPERTY u
Renamed as 2052 Industrie Lofts, located in Lichtenberg, Berlin, the once prominent ministerial building is being converted into a striking Quadrature design, offering spacious light-filled apart-
ments ranging in size from c.90m2 (1,012 sq. ft.) to 225m2 (2,422 sq. ft.). On the market with leading Berlin property agents, BEWOCON, prices at the historic development start from €389,900.
u Occupying a prominent position on Gotlindestrasse since the 1960s, the former Ministry for State Security building was home to the State Security Service (Stasi) of the Soviet-controlled German Democratic Republic (GDR). One of the most effective and repressive intelligence and secret police agencies in history, the Stasi’s main function was to spy on the citizens of East Germany and root out and apprehend dissidents. Known for methods of practice akin to the narrative of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four the Stasi deployed over 300,000 plain clothed spies at it peak, including an entire football team, Dynamo Dresden FC. Collating detailed personal files on people of interest, the Stasi’s best known practices were the surveillance of mail and telecoms (the large antenna used to intercept telephone calls will remain as a reminder of the buildings past), garbage analysis (largely for the presence of western material/food items) and the surveillance of foreign visitors to the East German capital. The brutalist architecture of the building is set to be enhanced by modern renovations and industrial style interiors, featuring real wood parquet flooring, polished cement screed, untreated reinforced concrete, easy-care porcelain stoneware tiles, and exposed wall mounted copper housed cables. Enhanced by impressive ceiling heights ranging from 4.5m to 5.8m, each apartment benefits from wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious terraces providing stunning vistas of the Berlin city skyline. Internally, the heart of every apartment is the open-plan living/dining area with featured semi-circular walls featuring translucent glass bricks. The bedrooms are connected by sliding doors to master bathrooms, which include a shower and a roll top bath, whilst a separate guest toilet and a practical storage room complete each apartment. The jewel in the crown of 2052 Industrie Lofts will be the newly-constructed upper two floors, providing ten duplex apartments. Each apartment comprises impressive outside space, set to be the largest private residential terraces in berlin. 2052 Industrie Lofts benefits from underground parking, accessed via a private car lift, providing spaces for 24 cars, as well as 44 bicycle spaces. Additionally, 26 covered parking spaces and 50 bicycle spaces will be available on the development’s forecourt. Each apartment will have access to a storage cellar. One of Berlin’s trendiest areas Lichtenberg is where traditional Wilhelminian neighborhoods meet GDR prefabricated buildings and modern townhouses on the banks of the River Spree. The area is increasingly attracting creatives, with a number of well-known sculptors, designers, painters and musicians recently moving into the East Berlin district in recent years. One stop from Friedrichshain metro station or a fifteen-minute drive to Alexander Platz, Lichtenberg offers city living in one of the greenest areas of Berlin.

Discreetly tucked away behind a sleek minimalist front exterior, the residence is entered through the main corridor onto a jaw-dropping 2,000 sq. ft. reception room characterised by 4m high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and large glazed sliding doors opening onto an abundance of outside space. 262 LUXURY LIVING

LUXURY LIVING PROPERTY u
On the market for £22 million with leading estate agents Russell Simpson and Knight Frank, the four-storey home also comprises five bedrooms – one of which is a master bedroom suite complete with stairs onto a private study and roof terrace - kitchen/breakfast room, TV room, family room, gymnasium and fitness studio, patio gardens on the ground floors, as well as secured off-street parking for two cars.
u Occupying land once part of the adjacent Our Most Holy Redeemer & St. Thomas More Church (built in the 1800s) the home retains elements of the church’s former rear wing, damaged during a Second World War bombing raid. The home perfectly blends a section of the historic Grade II Listed building with crisp modern design, using full-length glazed windows.
Jake Russell, Director at specialist Chelsea estate agents Russell Simpson, commented:
“The discreet and unassuming entrance to this extraordinary home belies the truly spectacular space that exists beyond. Once inside, you’re greeted with an expanse of incredibly impressive entertaining and living space that is like nothing else in Chelsea. Soaring ceilings and fantastic light makes for a modern masterpiece that strikes a perfect balance between modern living and historic London. It really is one of a kind.” The main living quarters of the home are spaced across two floors. The reception room occupies the majority of the ground floor, complete with access to the East Garden and quaint patio garden. Leading on from the reception room is an open-plan kitchen complete with Miele appliances, breakfast bar and full-length glazed windows opening onto an outdoor courtyard flanked by the historic stone wall. The first floor comprises four guest bedroom suites fitted with large artist’s studio like roof windows, filling each room with natural light. A fully-fitted TV room complete with in-built surround sound speakers occupies the centre room, whilst the master bedroom suite provides one of the home’s standout spaces. The duplex suite includes full-length windows looking onto the charming stone church wall, whilst a short staircase leads up onto a private study and roof terrace furnished with sun loungers and large sofa. 264 LUXURY LIVING
On the lower ground floor of the property is a fitness studio complete with a mirror-lined wall, ballet bannister and high-tech gym equipment. There is a generous family room also on this level which could, if desired, convert to and accommodate live-in staff quarters. Located on one of London’s most sought-after addresses, the prospective purchaser will be neighbours with some well-known individuals, such as Dyson Founder & CEO James Dyson and Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, whilst Mick Jagger is close by. Historically, the street was popular with the city’s cultural set, with perhaps the best-known resident at the time Leigh Hunt (1784-1859), who was a central figure of the Romantic movement in England in the nineteenth century. The street is also famed for being home to former British Spy, Greville Wynne who played a pivotal role in shaping the events of the Cold War. Wynne used his home at number 19 (adjacent to 2123 Upper Cheyne Row) to meet with a prominent KGB General who passed on information that averted war between the U.S. and Russia over the Cuban Missile Crisis.
