orn in Hollywood in 1974, Leonardo’s parents Irmelin and George DiCaprio divorced when he was a baby. Despite his parents’ early divorce, Leonardo DiCaprio remained close to his father, a comic book artist and distributor. With his parents urging Leonardo explored his creative side. He developed an interest in acting early on. “I loved imitating people ... I loved joking around with my parents and creating different characters. I liked doing my own little homemade skits,” But he didn’t have much success in Hollywood until he reached his early teens. For years, DiCaprio had trouble landing an agent. One agent event recommended DiCaprio change his name to Lenny Williams to improve his appeal. By the early 1990s, however, DiCaprio began landing regular television work. His early credits included guest appearances on such programs as ‘The New Lassie and Roseanne’. He landed a role on the dramatic comedy ‘Parenthood’. In 1991, DiCaprio took a leap forward when he was cast as a semi-regular on the family comedy ‘Growing Pains’. He made his film debut in the low-budget horror flick ‘Critters 3’ that same year. But DiCaprio really first demonstrated his talents as a serious actor two years later. Proving to the critics that he was more than a just good-looking teenager, DiCaprio starred opposite Robert De Niro in ‘This Boy’s Life’. The film delved into the difficult relationship between a young boy and his abusive stepfather in this adaptation of Tobias Wolff’s memoir. DiCaprio impressed critics, holding his own on screen up against acting heavyweight De Niro.

DiCaprio continued to turned heads again with his performance in ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?’ with Johnny Depp. His portrayal of a child with mental disabilities earned him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. The accolades he received from this film solidified DiCaprio’s reputation as a gifted actor. After receiving his first Academy Award nomination, DiCaprio continued to pursue interesting and diverse film projects. In 1995 he starred in the coming-of-age drama ‘The Basketball Diaries’ and worked with Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman on the western ‘The Quick and the Dead’ that same year. 11

Returning to mainstream 1996, Leo starred in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The movie was a huge hit among the MTV generation and succeeded in bring Shakespeare to the masses once more. However, no matter how successful ‘Romeo and Juliet’ may have been, it was to be eclipsed in 1997 by the film of the year – ‘Titanic’. The £100million epic by director James Cameron, ‘Titanic’ became both a critical and commercial smash hit. It snapped up 14 Academy Award nominations and took home 11 Oscars. Audiences flocked to the theatres to see this cinematic epic, driving the film to new box office records. ‘Titanic’ earned more than $600 million in its initial domestic release, according to boxofficemojo.com. The success of the film also showed that DiCaprio could handle traditional Hollywood leading man roles. He quickly became a world-famous celebrity with a growing following of admirers. His charm and youthful good looks helped him make People magazine’s list of “50 Most Beautiful People”—in 1997 and 1998. After ‘Titanic’, DiCaprio had a bit of a career slump. Both ‘The Man in the Iron Mask’ (1998) and ‘The Beach’ (2000) proved to be disappointments both financially and artistically. But DiCaprio soon bounced back. He demonstrated his range as an actor in two noteworthy films ‘Catch Me if You Can’ and ‘Gangs of New York’. In ‘Catch Me if You Can’, DiCaprio plays a young con man who excels at forgery and impersonation. The historical drama ‘Gangs of New York’ served as the first of many projects that DiCaprio would work on with famed director Martin Scorsese. In ‘The Aviator’ (2004), DiCaprio took on the challenge of playing one of America’s most famous businessmen. He received another Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of the eccentric and later reclusive Howard Hughes. DiCaprio continued to impress critics and audiences alike with his daring roles. In 2006 he starred in a pair of well-received films ‘Blood Diamond’ and ‘The Departed’. DiCaprio earned his third Academy Award nomination for ‘Blood Diamond’, a dramatic thriller about the pursuit of a precious gem in war-torn Sierra Leone. For the compelling Martin Scorsese-directed crime saga ‘The Departed’, he co-starred with Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson. 12 12

In 2008 DiCaprio reunited with Kate Winslet in ‘Revolutionary Road’, a tense film about a 1950s suburban couple that struggles to weather a myriad of personal problems. He explored a fantastical future in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ (2010) where technology allows people to invade the dreams of others. That same year, DiCaprio starred in Martin Scorsese’s thriller ‘Shutter Island’. DiCaprio took on another famous figure in the 2011 biographical drama ‘J. Edgar’. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film explores the life of J. Edgar Hoover who ran the FBI for nearly five decades. To prepare for the role, DiCaprio conducted extensive research. He visited many of Hoover’s haunts in Washington, D.C. “I do love playing historical figures simply because there’s so much incredibly diverse interesting information about a character when you can research their life. DiCaprio also reteamed with Baz Luhrmann to play one of literature’s most intriguing characters, Jay Gatsby in the adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic ‘The Great Gatsby’ along with Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire. DiCaprio again worked with Martin Scorsese on the newly released blockbuster ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, based on the memoir by Jordan Belfort, a man who gained notoriety for defrauding investors while lining his own pockets in the 1990s. Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey also appear in the film.

uring much of his career, DiCaprio has found himself in the media spotlight for as much as his personal life as his film making. His on-again offagain relationship with supermodel Gisele Bundchen was fodder for celebrity magazines and Web sites from 2000 to 2005 which was then followed by model Bar Refaeli for several years, and actress Blake Lively. Off-screen and away from the attention of the paparazzi, DiCaprio is a keen environmentalist and has set up his own foundation and eco-site through his official website. In 2000 he hosted an Earth Day celebration as well interviewed President Bill Clinton for a television segment about global warming. He’s also served on the boards of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Global Green USA. In 2007 a documentary about the environment, which DiCaprio wrote and narrated, debuted. The updated Evoque It’s a new year so it’s in with the new and out with the old. This year the Range Rover Evoque has been given a slight tweek, a new suite of technical changes have been added to improve fuel economy and efficiency with the most important change of all – an updated new nine-speed automatic gearbox. Other updates include engine stop-start technology (previously unavailable on automatic Evoques) and a new four-wheel-drive system called Active Driveline, which has fuel-saving benefits. 44

The updated Evoque is well finished, refined and well equipped...

The system, which is only available on petrol models initially, lets the Evoque run in front-wheel-drive mode at speeds above 22mph, but it will also send power to the rear wheels when it senses extra traction is needed. Even with its regular, permanent four-wheeldrive system, the 187bhp 2.2-litre SD4 auto diesel is a little more efficient than before, managing 163g/km of CO2 and an official average of 45.6mpg; the figures were previously 174g/km and 44.1mpg. The figures should improve again later in 2014 when diesel models get the new four-wheel-drive system. In addition to the mechanical changes, the revised Evoque is available with more convenience and safety tech, including a Park Exit system that can automatically steer the car out of parking bays. Reverse Traffic Detection is also offered; this warns you of potential hazards during reversing manoeuvres and finally some extra colour and trim options complete the update.

What’s the 2014 Range Rover Evoque like inside?

The Evoque responds more sharply when you pull away from a standstill, and gear changes are now swifter and smoother; the only time they feel jerky is if you suddenly ask for a burst of acceleration at low speed.

Exactly the same as the previous version of the car! That’s no bad thing, though, because the Evoque has a classy cabin that contains plenty of equipment.

True, the gearbox does change up and down quite a bit on the motorway, but you’re not really aware of this unless you look at the rev counter and see how its needle is rising and falling. The Evoque also imperceptibly flits between front and four-wheel drive modes.

The Evoque is relatively comfortable and spacious for four adults, although getting into the back is tricky in the three-door (Coupe) version, and a BMW X3 has a much bigger boot. The main bugbear about the Evoque’s rear visibility remains, and the oversized door mirrors still make tight turns and miniroundabouts a visual challenge.

Should I buy one? The Evoque still isn’t as good an all-rounder as the BMW X3, but it’s decent to drive and classy inside. Its huge desirability helps keep resale values sky high, too – Plus it does sure look good!

or don’t want to have alcohol the answer is mocktails. Colourful and full of flavour, mocktails give you all the fun of a cocktail with none of the bite. There is nothing as good as a fun mocktail to get you feeling like partying, whether you’re after a rich creamy drink or a fun, fizzy drink. Spotlight Magazine has hunted down a collection of recipes for you to try from fruity mocktails, fizzy mocktails, creamy mocktails and colourful mocktails there really is a mocktail to suit everyone. So let’s shake, rattle and roll, as they used to say, and let the party begin!

Pomegranate is such a popular fruit right now, you see it in lots of drinks, and you’ll find it in many a recipe for a mocktail as well. This one cuts the sweetness with a variety of citrus fruits – oranges, grapefruit, tangelos, and tangerines. Wow! It’s cool, it’s refreshing, and the best part is that you can drink it in the morning without worrying about actually drinking in the morning. Plus, no hangover!

Ingredients:

2 small grapefruits 2 juice oranges 2 tangerines or mineola tangelos 1/2 lime 2 pomegranates

Directions:

Use a citrus press or a juicer to juice the grapefruits, oranges, tangerines, and lime. Juice the pomegranates (2/3 cup juice) into a separate bowl. Divide citrus juice among 3 glasses. Top with pomegranate juice, which will settle to the bottom, and serve.

Appletini

The Appletini is a non-alcoholic version of the Apple Martini. It is perfect for those evenings when you’re the designated driver, don’t feel like drinking, or when you simply want a great cocktail without the booze. The mix is an easy one that adds a little sweet and sour to apple juice. If you like, it can be spiked by adding gin or vodka also, although that does defeat the ‘mocktail’ purpose.

Ingredients:

2 ounces freshly pressed apple juice 1/2 ounce simple syrup 1/4 ounce lemon juice Sugar for rimming Apple slice for garnish

Directions:

Rim a chilled cocktail glass with sugar. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with an apple slice. Simple!

A refreshing lemon flavoured Irish cream soda, topped with whipped cream that hits the spot perfectly. (If using large glasses, double these amounts).

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar 1 cup water 1 lemon yellow food colouring club soda half-and-half whipped cream

Directions:

Remove peel from lemon in large chunks. Place the peel chunks in a small pot with the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Boil about one minute, until sugar is completely dissolved. Add 5-6 drops of yellow food colouring. Let the syrup cool completely, and chill in the fridge. Once syrup is chilled, combine Â˝ cup club soda with 3 T. lemon syrup in each glass. Add 1 T. half-and half to each glass. Top with whipped cream. Serve immediately.

Shirley Temple

The Shirley Temple is one of the most popular drinks and one that everyone should know. It is easy to make at home and you can order it for yourself or the kids at almost any restaurant you go to. Of course, the drink that is named for the best known, most innocent looking child star in history contains no alcohol. Instead, this mocktail has just three simple ingredients: two light sodas and grenadine for the fruity flavour. The combination is fantastic and refreshing, and it is one of the best soda fountain drinks you will have.

Ingredients:

3 ounces lemon-lime soda 3 ounces ginger ale Dash grenadine Maraschino cherry for garnish

Directions:

Pour the lemon-lime soda and ginger ale into a collins glass with ice cubes. Add a dash of grenadine. Stir. Garnish with a cherry.

1 ounce lemon juice 1 ounce orange juice 1 ounce pineapple juice 2 ounce ginger ale Dash of grenadine Pineapple & orange slices for garnish

Pour the juices into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a chilled collins glass filled with ice. Garnish with the slices of pineapple and/or orange. TIP: If youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d like a more elegant looking Cinderella, cut all of the juices and ginger ale in half and serve it in a chilled cocktail glass.

Lemon Cheesecake

Lemon Cheesecake Drink is a very spicy, tasteful, tantalizing, tempting recipe. It’s very delicious and yummy recipe. Just follow our quicker and easier method to make/Prepare Lemon Cheesecake Drink and enjoy this luscious, mouth-watering recipe.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp Lemon Juice ¼ cup Cream A pinch of Nutmeg (Grated) 2 tbsp Caster Sugar ½ cup Yogurt ½ tsp Vanilla Essence 1 cup Ice-cubes

Directions:

This isn’t rocket science! Blend together all the ingredients in a blender except the nutmegs. Pour it into a glass and top it with grated nutmeg and serve chilled.
