BIMA Hall 100 of Fame
Introducing the 2018 Digital Hall of Fame Welcome to this year’s commemorative book, celebrating the latest inductees and incumbent members of the Digital Hall of Fame. We are delighted to, once again, acknowledge the contribution that the people herein have made to the digital industry. This year, our two inductees are…
Natalie Gross Tarek Nseir Presidents
Queen’s New Year’s Honours list and her first book Saving Bletchley Park has been an Amazon UK bestseller. Sue’s most recent venture is her social enterprise #techmums which teaches mums tech skills and builds their confidence encouraging them into education, entrepreneurship and employment.
With two decades of experience building and exiting companies in the US, Israel and Europe, Saul most recently co-founded Kano and Seedcamp, and was co-founder and original CEO of Lovefilm International (acquired by Amazon) and the original executive team at Skype (acquired by eBay).
Dr Sue Black left home and school at 16 and at 25 went to university as a single mother with 3 children. She gained a degree in computing and then a PhD in software engineering and went on to set up the UK’s first online network for women in tech BCSWomen and led the campaign to save Bletchley Park.
Whilst Dr Sue Black focuses her time on helping women build their digital skills, her fellow inductee Saul Klein is equally as focused on helping people. As founding partner of LocalGlobe, a new seed fund, Saul helps London’s most ambitious founders build game changing businesses.
BIMA conceived the Digital Hall of Fame back in 2012 to honour the stars of our industry, and also to hold up inspirational examples to the next generation of digital talent and our most recent inductees do just that.
Now a UK government advisor, thought leader, Honorary Professor of Computer Science at UCL, social entrepreneur, writer and public speaker, Sue was awarded an OBE for “services to technology” in the 2016
Prior to his current venture, Saul was a Partner at Index Ventures from 2007 until May 2015 and in 2012 David Cameron appointed Saul to be the UK’s first tech envoy to Israel and a Technology Business Ambassador.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you on behalf of BIMA to sponsors Adam, Amoveo, ContentCal, ForrestBrown, Jahia and Microsoft. It’s with pleasure that I now invite you to read on and find out more about our 2018 Digital Hall of Fame inductees.

NIGEL VAZ
CEO EMEA and APAC Publicis.Sapient @vaznigel
Nigel Vaz helped to take SapientNitro from a startup a decade ago to become the largest digital agency in the UK. He made his entrance into the digital industry in 1995 at a young age, co-founding a public company that delivered telecoms, consulting and connectivity solutions. Among its achievements were technological advances in vertical blanking interval (VBI) technology to encrypt data and broadcast to remote areas that lacked connectivity – sub-Saharan Africa for one, where local schools benefitted from a curriculum broadcast to them digitally.
The theme of enhancing the capabilities and experiences of consumers and of business by imagining and creating new ways to harness technology runs strongly through Vaz’s life. Today, that philosophy can be found in the work that Publicis.Sapient does to engage connected consumers through the creation of integrated, immersive stories and experiences that live across brand communications, digital engagement and omni-channel commerce.

He studied physics at Oxford University and became a software engineer. but globally. He named it the World Wide Web. He also created the first web browser and editor. The world’s first website, http://info.cern.ch, was launched on 6 August 1991. It explained the World Wide Web concept and gave users an introduction to getting started with their own websites. Actor / Screenwriter / Author @stephenfry
On the occasion of his induction into the Digital Hall of Fame, Stephen Fry wrote: “To be voted, or ‘inducted’ which I believe is correct, into the Digital Hall of Fame, is a great honour that touches me deeply. I have always been fascinated by the power, reach, creativity of the digital world and its social implications, both for good and ill…
“I first joined commercial online services like Prestel, Compuserve and America Online in the late 80s and then the internet proper through Demon, the UK’s first ISP. I was instantly struck amidships by the possibilities of this astounding new way of communicating around the globe. I had an email address but none of my friends did; only fellow geeks around the world with whom one would share interslip and PPP scripts. Then Tim Berners-Lee wrote his protocols and Mosaic and the first web browsers arrived. Within what seemed a blink of the eye nothing was the same again.”
