Introducing the 2019 Digital Hall of Fame
Natalie Gross Tarek Nseir Presidents
Once again, we are delighted to welcome two new inductees to the BIMA Digital Hall of Fame. If there’s one thing that links this year’s inductees (other than their lengthy and formidable list of achievements) it is their impact on all of us. Through varied careers, our inductees have helped shape the British economy, its business landscape, its entrepreneurs and the way we consume entertainment.
Stock Exchange plc. She has invested in more than 60 companies as an angel, including LinkedIn, Zoopla, Lovefilm (Amazon) and New Energy Finance (Bloomberg).
Sherry Coutu is a serial entrepreneur and angel investor. Her first tech success came with financial-services platform Interactive Investor, which she founded in 1994, but she made the shift from CEO to investor when pregnant with her third child, a change she found “beautifully flexible - and intellectually… like being in a candy store.”
Sherry has been awarded honorary doctorates from The University of Bristol, Manchester University and the Open University for her work in education and economy, and she was awarded the CBE for her services to entrepreneurship in the New Year’s Honours List 2013.
Today she serves on the boards of companies, charities, and universities. She chairs Founders4Schools, which works to encourage more young people to start their own businesses. She also chairs Workfinder, The Scaleup Institute, Financial Strategy Advisory Group for the University of Cambridge and Raspberry Pi Trading Ltd. Sherry also serves as a non-executive member of The Royal Society (Translation and Data Science Committees), Cambridge University (Finance Board) and the London
Philanthropically, Sherry supports the Prince’s Trust, the Crick Institute and Founders4Schools. She holds an MBA from Harvard, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a BA from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
Dame Carolyn McCall DBE became ITV’s first female Chief Executive in January 2018 where she has set a bold new vision for the channel to lose its “cosy and traditional” image and become something more “contemporary, modern, relevant and digital”. As part of her mission, Carolyn has made a priority of developing a UK-based subscription video-on-demand service that can compete with Netflix, and has put technology and data at the core of expanding the potential of TV advertising.
Prior to joining ITV, Carolyn was CEO of easyJet for nearly eight years where she virtually doubled the number of passengers and doubled the number of women seeking to become pilots. As Guardian Media Group CEO from 2006, Carolyn was also involved at the start of the move to digital for the newspaper. In 2008, she was awarded an OBE for services to women in business. In 2016, Carolyn was decorated with France’s highest award, the Légion d’honneur in recognition of her contribution to the economies of France and the UK and for her support of women, particularly female pilots. In the New Year’s Honours List of 2016 Carolyn was awarded a Damehood for services to the aviation industry. About the Hall of Fame BIMA conceived the Digital Hall of Fame in 2012 to honour the stars of our industry and to inspire the next generation of digital talent. We would like to extend a sincere thank you on behalf of BIMA to sponsors Adam, Amoveo, ContentCal, ForrestBrown, Jahia and Microsoft. It is with pleasure that I now invite you to read on and find out more about all our Digital Hall of Fame inductees.
