This is the BIMA 100 of 2017 It’s a pleaure to be introducing our first BIMA 100 since Tarek & I took on our roles as Presidents last November. Our new mission is to drive innovation and excellence across the digital industry. This year we’ve evolved the BIMA 100 to recognise the game changers and innovators, all helping to shape Britain’s digital economy and future.

Natalie Gross Tarek Nseir Presidents

The stories in this book are inspirational and show what can be achieved when smart people aim to change the status quo. Innovation comes in many guises, and within these pages are stories of entrepreneurs and inventors, activists and advocates, as well as people leading their fields and creating change via their personal examples of excellence. Our 100 is made up of talented people at both ends of the experience

spectrum, with industry leaders like Mel Edwards and Caitlyn Ryan profiled alongside rising stars like Tobi Oludayomi and Mitchell Stuart. We’re also proud that our 100 is living proof that success in our industry is becoming attainable for all, with trailblazing individuals knocking down glass ceilings and diversity champions like Etebom Davies and Ali Hanan putting equality at the top of the agenda. In arriving at these 100 names, BIMA is setting out our stall – not just to showcase our industry’s strengths – but also to send a message around BIMA itself. We’re here for the game changers, connectors, thought leaders and champions. If you’re in this book, you’re our kind of people. We look forward to continuing to support your journey and helping you do what you do best: create change.

On the subject of BIMA itself, I would like to direct your attention to the profiles on pages 4 to 6. We appointed our new Central Council earlier this year and are already starting to see big things from the power-packed line-up of individuals who have put their hands up to lead BIMA Councils across everything from AI and Immersive Tech Think Tanks to our Young Talent and Mentoring initiatives. Finally, we would like to thank the organisations whose generous support has enabled us to bring you the BIMA 100 of 2017. They are industry leaders in their own right, and we have the pleasure of thanking Amoveo, Cohaesus, ForrestBrown, Glug, InvestHK, Jahia, Kemp Little, ngoar, Passion Digital, Sitecore and Wirehive. Congratulations to all those who are recognised in this book and thank you for your important contributions to our industry.

Alberta has been a prominent figure in international UX & Design for years. In 2016 she took on her biggest challenge - “transforming one of the largest banks in the UK into a peoplefirst service provider”. No small feat and a testament to her vision and ambition. Not only has Alberta begun to transform Lloyds into a bank for the

future, she’s also taking an entire industry along on the journey. Always inspiring, incredibly passionate and never one to shy away from a challenge, Alberta is a big name in UX & Design globally. My little-known hobby is… playing ice hockey. I’m not very good, but I have loads of fun.

In the past year, Ali has continued to turn Creative Equals into a force for change. She’s now signed up more than 15 agencies, including R/GA, AKQA, DigitasLBi and Wunderman to go 50:50 over the next five years. Ali’s successes from the past year also include setting up the ‘Be Awesome Night School’ with 40 classes training over 500 people, the Helen Stokes Intern Scholarships for women from low socio-economic backgrounds,

The Drum’s Dream Awards ‘Creative Woman of the Year’ prize and the UK’s first ‘Shadow jury’ for the 2016 BIMA Awards. With the ‘See it, be it’ team in Cannes, Creative Equals created 55 gender equality actions from the industry’s top leaders. Ali has now given up her job as a creative director to do this role fulltime. And that’s commitment. The next big thing in digital will be… artificially intelligent creative directors.

Everyone talks about digital transformation but Amanda lived up to this in 2016 by transforming herself out of a job. She led a significant change programme to embed digital culture into Macmillan Cancer through innovative new ways of working and thinking. Culminating in her restructure of the digital function, embedding her team across the charity and reassigning her Head of Digital objectives so digital leadership

would be owned by all. Amanda then moved to NHS Digital where she took responsibility for supporting and developing the digital skills and capabilities required to embrace user centred digital delivery. She is a recognised leader and innovator within the Not for Profit sector and sets the bar for driving change. My favourite quote is… Be brave and make new mistakes.

As Client Services Director and a member of the Senior Management team, Amy is focused on overseeing and growing e3’s client portfolio, nurturing talent and ensuring the long term strategic growth of the agency. Over the last year, Amy has been a key member of the team that completed the acquisition of London Strategy Unit providing a greater network of services to support the growing needs of clients.

13

Amy has played a pivotal role in the continued growth of the agency. Defining a culture and environment where clients have growing ambitions resulting in a 20% increase in revenues, and most importantly achieving excellent client satisfaction scores and 100% client retention. Relaxation is… travelling. Not only experiencing new people and cultures but time for me to think and observe.

Continual Professional Development (CPD) in Digital Leadership. And Creating a PhD is also on the roadmap. In 2016 Andrea was appointed as Global MD with Precedent; an agency that has pedigree, a good heart and is poised for a new phase in its development. My favourite saying is… Know the rules well, so you can break them.

In the past 12 months, Andy launched the “Founders Assembly”, a microconference for growing agencies. His goal was to help digital founders learn from their peers and those who have come before them, provide a support network, and help take their creative business to the next level. He also started the new “Leading Design” conference, to do a similar thing for design leaders around Europe.

On top of these new initiatives, Andy continues to promote, support and grow the UK digital design industry through his conference talks, podcast interviews, magazine articles, and events like UX London and Brighton Digital Festival, which he co-founded in 2012. The innovation that’s excited me lately is… Voice UI and the rise of conversational interfaces.

Antony Mayfield is CEO and cofounder of Brilliant Noise, a strategic digital marketing partner for global brands. He also serves as the Chair of Lighthouse, a bold international digital arts and culture non-profit. He is a lecturer on the Google Squared programme, hosts Brilliant Noise’s Dots conference, spoke at the 2016 Edinburgh International Television Festival and is a regular contributor to publications including CMO.com, The Huffington Post and AdMap.

Brilliant Noise’s ethos of building “capabilities not campaigns” for brands in digital has secured international clients including adidas, American Express, Universal Pictures and Tata Communications. The company has had annual growth of 50% for the past two years. My favourite quote is… “Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.” – Howard Aiken

Ben co-founded MMT Digital in 1999 straight out of university. Under his leadership, MMT Digital has grown from a small, originally Midlands-only based agency, to opening a London office in 2005, and now one of the highest rated digital agencies in the UK by RAR (Recommended Agency Register) and ranked no.4 in The Drum’s Digital Census Elite Agency Top 10. Responsible for driving forward MMT Digital’s vision of helping clients

15

transform business performance through digital, Ben has grown both revenue and headcount by 30% YoY over the last three years. In May 2016, Ben oversaw the successful sale of the agency to the Be Heard Group. The innovation that’s excited me lately is… voice recognition technology and the huge potential for brands that integrate it into customer journeys.

Conceptually driven yet intentionally unorthodox, he loves the logic and structure of the digital world. Benjamin has crafted projects for international organisations including the EU and Eurofighter Typhoon. He enjoys sharing that passion by contributing workshops and talks for MozFest, Code Club and the University of Hertfordshire.

My desert island luxury would be… “In Search of Lost Time” by Marcel Proustinto.

Caitlin is the ECD of Cheil - an agency that finds ways to help brands use technology to create memorable customer experiences. For Samsung in 2016 her team created the ‘Gear S3 World Choir’ event, which was designed to capture the cultural heartbeat of the capital for 24 days leading up to Christmas. It took place on a high-tech biometric stage around EROS in Piccadilly Square and

measured the heartbeat, movements and even calories burnt by 24 different choirs in real time as they performed, via the new Gear S3 smartwatch. Topped off with a beautiful live data visualisation, created with Oscarwinning VFX studio Framestore.

I got into digital because… the potential to use technology to get closer to people excited me.

Callum is the Founder of awardwinning digital agency, Reckless. Focused on creating more profitable and meaningful relationships between clients and their customers, Reckless specialises in supporting businesses in the leisure and hospitality industry. The last 12 months have been a step change year for the agency, illustrated by aggressive growth across the board. 2016 saw Reckless expand its operations overseas acquiring offices in Paris. Team resource doubled as

the agency welcomed on-board 13 new recruits. Financially, Reckless enjoyed a record year, enjoying an impressive 70% increase in turnover. Collectively, this resulted in the agency winning 3 awards, most notably of which, Callum won ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the FSB Greater Manchester & North Cheshire Business Awards. I got into digital because… I love the ever-changing landscape and the continual opportunity to tread a new path.

Carla is a talented designer and a successful entrepreneur with an academic background in Psychology and Cognitive Science. She swapped Madrid for Chicago to study her MBA, where she consulted for several startups, building a reputation as a sharp, business-grade design thinker. In 2014, she co-founded Lenshare, a mobile photo-app that enables people to capture moments in creative ways. Lenshare was widely fêted by the media and featured as “Best New

17

App” by Apple. Carla is now a Senior Business Designer for Designit and is already making a dent in the London entrepreneurial scene, consulting with growing businesses, and operating as a digital design expert for an emerging VC group. The next big thing in digital will be… real convergence between physical and digital – like walking out of a store without stopping to pay because you’ve already been ID’ed and charged directly.

Carolyn launched Creative Entrepreneurs in 2016, a disruptive digital platform to empower creative people to unlock their potential and turn their creative ideas into successful businesses. While many resources exist to help, none had been joined up. Compounding this, creative people don’t typically have business training, and the needed support is largely targeted at business people. Creative Entrepreneurs fills this gap, bringing together for the

first time, across one multi-channel platform, the curated business resources, role models and networks that creative people need to startup. Engaging Downing Street plus top creatives such as Jamal Edwards and Anya Hindmarch to help spread the word, it now reaches over 750K creative entrepreneurs. The next big thing in digital will be… creative people running wild with AR & VR.

Chelsea works untiringly to achieve gender equality within the tech sector. As Co-Founder of Liverpool Girl Geeks, she imagines a world in which women can be represented equally within the workforce and can be paid equally for their efforts. Her direct experiences of inequality within the sector inspired her to start the company in 2013, to provide women with a support network. It quickly gained traction,

thanks to Chelsea’s vision and endless enthusiasm for her work, developing additional programmes for teens to create the ‘innovators of the future.’ The plan is to roll out girl geek programmes nationally. My desert island luxury would be… Maya Angelou’s collected autobiographies!

In 2016, Chris has grown the agency’s media department into a Google Premium Partner, handling clients with multi-million pound budgets & widening the agency’s areas of expertise within an array of different industries. Taking the lead in managing & executing multichannel global campaigns for the likes of Toolstation and West Ham United Football Club, whilst providing insight and analysis for charities

such as Diabetes UK, RNIB and Blind Veterans UK. Chris has grown the digital revenue stream for Toolstation by 45%, which saw paid search as a channel experience growth of 130% nearly a quarter of all online sales, and all without an increase in budget. Given the chance, I’d tell… my younger self that baggy jeans just aren’t cool. Oh and to invest in myself.

Chris leads new business efforts for The Progress Film Company and is tasked with adding new advertising agencies to the company’s portfolio of clients, while simultaneously increasing the output of commercial content with existing clientele. So far, Chris has initiated work with seven new agencies, developing

19

relationships from initial meeting through to project completion. The resulting content has screened across social media platforms, amassing millions of views.. I got into digital because… it was a place where filmmakers could get their work viewed by millions and climb the creative ladder.

and a mad 3-month-old puppy, she always has a smile on her face and is a natural ambassador for the digital industry. I’m where I am today because… of my dad’s supercalifragilistic weekly spelling tests as a kid.

Dan Dawson has been at the forefront of the pioneering work Grand Visual have done over the past 11 years in Digital Out of Home advertising. Recently, Dan has been an integral member of an inter-agency DOOH innovation team which has made significant improvements to the ways that data and technology are implemented across DOOH. By radically changing the traditional approach to this digital medium, the team has brought data and

technology into an otherwise static space. The developments made over the last 12 months to the OpenLoop platform have enabled greater portfolio management for brands, easing the integration of data into their campaigns and subsequently increasing media efficiencies across DOOH. My desert island luxury would be... my wife and two kids… oh and a set of golf clubs and an endless supply of golf balls.

Dan has always MC’d The Tech Off but in 2016 his evil twin MC Danimal AKA The Beyonce Of Tech took over. Dan says “Most people leave the events convinced I’m the most immature, lousy and weird CEO they’ve ever seen. But it’s all for LOLs…” Techdept aims to help a billion people improve their knowledge of tech and Dan’s MC shenanigans are the secret

weapon. In real life, he is an ambitious, serious, inspiring, switched on and future facing CEO and his work with The Tech Off is to help spread knowledge and inspire the next generation. Not many people know that I… am an aspiring global DJ (see www.soundcloud.com/ trackhead).

Michaela and Danielle can often be found with cake in their hands and smiles on their faces. They are responsible for internal and external marketing activity for Redweb, including events and community initiatives. One audience they feel passionate about influencing is the next generation of digital gurus. They are particularly proud to have seen Digital Wave, a free 1-day digital careers conference, grow in popularity each

year into a nationally recognised event attended by 14-19 year olds looking for a career in digital. On top of this they work with technical experts at Redweb to deliver talks and events and share expertise more broadly amongst the industry. Given the chance, we’d tell… our generation to be passionate about digital, but don’t just type about it, look people in the eye and tell them about it!

Over the last 12 months, Eleanor has worked with The London-based Open Space Agency and NASA, where she designed and developed the user interface and experience for a smartphone-powered 3D-printed asteroid-hunting telescope to be used by schools and universities to characterize asteroids. Eleanor is currently honing her craft at Twitter in London as the Product Design Lead on TweetDeck, applying her methodologies to design

technology which enables power users to handle Twitter at scale and find signal in the noise. Eleanor has been named as one of the CodeFirst:Girls Ones To Watch for 2016, is part of the Hospital Club’s h100 list and was noted as Rising Star of The Year at the 2017 Women In IT Awards. Elspeth is the founding force behind Undivided – the UK’s first youth-led campaign to allow young people to shape post-Brexit Britain. Housed at Livity, the digital platform, weareundivided.co.uk, amassed input from 10,000 13-29 year olds. Undivided has gained significant media coverage and support from 60 youth

organisations. The demands are soon to be presented to Parliament. Elspeth is a natural entrepreneur and led the winning pitch for over £300,000 from Paul Hamlyn foundation. She was recently named one of the Evening Standard’s Young Progress Makers 2017. The next big thing in digital will be… developments in digital democracy, and our industry needs to lead the way on this.

Emma leads the Google Client Services team at We Are Social, and in 2016 the agency was incredibly proud to move from being YouTube’s social agency to being their lead UK creative agency. This shift meant that We Are Social produced its first ever full service campaign – Made For You; a campaign that was a first for YouTube and We Are Social on many fronts. Emma pioneered brave new ways of working

27

that were integral to the success of the campaign, and created a transparent, honest and collaborative environment in which to deliver the campaign, resulting in a dramatic increase in the quality of creative and billings. The innovation that’s excited me lately is… Soul Machines – AI blended with EI to form amazingly lifelike avatars.

The innovation that’s excited me lately is… the potential of emerging technology in the developing world – for example, AI to help improve crop yields or identification of diseases in crops.

Eva is passionate about transforming how we approach business change. She is a frequent speaker and industry mentor, always willing to share her knowledge with those faced with the herculean task of transformation. Eva has honed an empathic approach to change; one that is people-centred and focuses on strategic strengths. She applies this philosphy to her consultancy, which helps businesses with their transformation challenges. This past year Eva co-founded the Future Strategy Club, a professional network for strategists and think

tank for strategy innovation, which explores how strategy can become more agile and better suited to rapid change. She is the co-founder of NINE which supports women in digital leadership, and lectures on Business Transformation for HyperIsland’s MA programme. The next big thing in digital will be… a lot of regulatory catch-up. I won’t be surprised to see checks and balances to mitigate against the immense societal power of the tech giants.

Harry has a history of using digital to challenge established organisations to embrace change, most recently at 40-year-old iconic British brand Brompton Bicycle. He has made it his mission to deliver a customer experience as exciting and high quality as the folding bikes that Brompton produces. Transforming a manufacturing organisation to be consumer centric is not without its challenges, but Harry’s ability to

break down technical concepts into business goals has enabled him to deliver exciting results. The Brompton Website won a DADI Award in 2015, and this early victory supports Harry’s drive to raise the bar in the cycling industry and his passion for using digital to engage customers. I got into digital because… I was a frustrated marketer who wanted to measure EVERYTHING!

Helen has always had an interest in creating meaningful work that not only resonates with audiences, but also helps move organisations forward with confidence in their future. She continues to pursue this with a recent move to the digital product studio ustwo as Design Director. Prior to that in her role as Executive Creative Director at DigitasLBi she oversaw some of the agency’s most award-winning work from last year. Most notably the double-Cannes Lion winning Pigeon Air Patrol as

well as the BIMA grand prix winning Mumsnet pregnancy tracker. Helen has continued mentoring female creative talent and guest lecturing. Last year she was Highly Commended in The Drum’s first ever Creative Woman of the Year awards. Given the chance, I’d tell… our industry to stop merely talking about diversity and get on with making the changes you know need to happen.

Ian Cassidy founded a new agency last year called SHARE Creative. Focused on moving the industry forward by helping clients understand the value of social to their business, SHARE Creative now has 10 clients with defined ‘Social Purpose’. In their first year SHARE Creative grew to 30 full time employees, with offices in London and New York and

clients that include Sky, Jeep, Alfa, Southern Comfort and The North Face. The innovation that’s excited me lately is… Blinkist, which summarises non-fiction books into 7-minute audio tracks and means I can get through 3 books each day on my commute home.

Last year Jacob delivered the client strategy for 383, single-handedly delivering nearly £2m in new business. Jacob improves client knowledge and understanding of methodologies and new tools being used by companies such as Spotify and Netflix; ensuring a smoother engagement on work with 383 and the wider industry. He builds robust rapport with clients through a series of events: chairing 383’s own breakfast club, dinner club and compering 383’s annual digital conference “Canvas”.

Jacob recently moved from leading commercial output to leading 383 as MD, developing a new company framework that aligns staff development directly with their future ambitions, ensuring 383’s future is accessible, transparent and well resourced. Experience Design has been fundamental in shaping the Experience Design team in regards to training and development, whilst growing a more gender balanced experience design department and raising awareness of unconscious bias as a thought leader in the industry. The next big thing in digital will be… diversity and bias in AI and machine learning, especially as tasks are becoming more autonomous.

Jessica is co-founder and MD of the creative consultancy CreateFuture, working with ambitious brands – such as Expedia, BBC and Penguin Books - to improve marketing, services and capability. She started CreateFuture in 2016 to challenge the status quo. Convinced there were better ways to solve problems, she built the business to work faster and more collaboratively whilst embracing creativity – rejecting traditional processes developed for a different age.

Jessica also supports Girl Geek Scotland aimed at supporting women in technology through education. Previously, Jessica has successfully run multi-million pound projects, accounts and agencies during her 16-year career including the digital agency Realise and service design consultancy Nile. My desert island luxury would be … a Kindle loaded with thousands of books so that I can always read. Is that cheating?!

Jimmy makes digital ‘normal’ in difficult surroundings, applying the arts of content and marketing in a wide arena. In the last year, this has included delivering strategies of democratic engagement, digital diplomacy and country branding to different European countries. Back in the UK, he led the crowdfunding efforts for the award-winning publisher Unbound - proving that creativity can have a financial model, and alongside that he has driven social media-led data journalism with The Daily Telegraph, The Times and the International

Jimmy is also opening up the communications of the internet governance body ICANN, is supporting strategy at the internet literacy company Wizenoze and mentors startup Erase All Kittens, seeking to teach girls how to code. To give it all some academic respectability, he is a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Policy Institute at Kings College, London. My great ideas... turn out to be damp squibs. During 2016, Jonny has led Lab to further notable growth. Since the merger with Neuro Agency Ltd, Lab has significantly matured. As well as offering a full suite of digital services, Lab’s consultancy offering now includes leadership, business, marketing and branding. To support this change, Lab has been rebranded. Jonny has also been working hard to bring digital leadership and modern thinking to both the public and

private sector. He has supported BIMA, offering services to help upskill the BIMA team and supporting events such as Digital Day. Additionally, Jonny is now an advisory committee member to the Surrey University Centre for Leadership and Decision Making and the Centre for the Digital Economy. The next big thing in digital will be… systematic and mass manipulation of social media.

Since 2008, Josh Cole Bolland and his brother Ollie have grown their company, J B Cole UK, from a small photo studio in North West London to a thriving digital technology business with dedicated teams in Hertfordshire and Manchester. Clients include ITV, TfL, Body Shop, The NHS, Nokia, several SMEs and various London Guilds.

He mentors young business owners, organises and hosts industry networking events, runs digital startup workshops and delivers talks to apprentices and interns. My favourite saying is... If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.

As VP, UX at Huge, Josh oversees the creation and evolution of ecosystems, products and interfaces for the agency’s client base. In 2016, Josh led the charge in redefining the digital product and marketing ecosystem for global energy brand Enel. Under his leadership, a new global digital vision was created, marking the beginning of a new era defined by a user-centric business approach, transparent communication, empowering functionality and

Also in 2016, Josh was instrumental in bringing Huge School to London, the agency’s accelerated training programme for those who want to pursue a career in experience design. Having been at Tribal for over 7 years, she has worked hard to balance the bottom line without diluting creative brilliance.

In her spare time Kam works as a mentor, helping the next generation succeed. On top of her mentorships, she also conceived, championed and built the first-of-its-kind app designed to connect female mentors with mentees (the Omnicom pilot will be released later this year). The film title that describes my life is… I want to say “Wonder Women” but it’s more like ”Get out Alive”.

Laura’s career has seen her rise to D&AD President, become a Chief Creative Officer at the awardwinning agency Mr President, whilst championing equality and diversity in the creative field. She made the Debretts 500 for the most influential people in the UK for technology and has been recognised as one of the 50 most influential women in tech in Europe by Inspiring Fifty.

Laura is also the co-founder for SheSays, the only global creative network for women, along with The Great British Diversity Challenge, which published an influential white paper on the largest practical experiment in why diverse creative teams work. I got into digital because... it was the punk rock part of advertising and we got to make impossible things often.

Laurie is a digital marketer who gets businesses seen by audiences that are hungry for their products or services. Her knowledge and understanding of the digital landscape has benefited an eclectic mix of clients from young startups to FTSE 100 giants, and more recently Google, where she helped to roll out its digital skills training across the country. She has been featured in the Metro, FT and Fast Company, and

37

has trained industry executives on the power of digital marketing. In 2016, she co-founded Circle, a community that brings together women working in the digital economy. Patrick has been working at the intersection of engineering, product design and UX at video-on-demand startup Colony since 2014. Over that time he has been instrumental in transforming Colony’s product, brand and front-end browser application into a truly world-class offering, rivaling those of a small elite group of global competitors. Before Colony, Patrick was a Front-end Subject Matter Expert at NYC digital agency Barrel,

delivering award-winning websites for global brands. Patrick also owns and runs his own business KunkaLabs, which produces several widely-used JavaScript UI development tools, including MixItUp and its extensions. Patrick’s work is underlined by a passion for building meaningful digital products and user experience. The innovation that’s excited me lately is... progressive web apps.

Paul Corcoran is MD of Agent, a fullservice agency based in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle - one of the UK’s fastest growing creative and digital communities. Paul has spearheaded the Scandinavian six-hour working day at Agent, showcasing how working differently can improve efficiency, enhance culture and inspire the client work being created. As a result of this and of Agent’s wider approach to workplace health and wellbeing, Paul won The Guardian’s ‘Sustainable

Business Leader of the Year’ award in 2016. In 2014, Paul founded the pioneering Agent Academy CIC which helps young people start careers within the creative and digital industries. My favourite quote/saying is… “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.” - William Ernest Henley

Pete was key to helping Karmarama build its substantial credibility in mobile and digital following the 2014 acquisition of Nice Agency, which he co-founded. Over the past 12 months Karmarama has become one of the UK’s leading creative agencies with an exceptional digital capability at

its heart. This combined proposition paved the way for Karmarama’s acquisition by Accenture Interactive to offer a unique and market-leading capability. The innovation that’s excited me lately is… SpaceX, especially reusable rockets.

In March 2017, Pip Jamieson was named by The Sunday Times as one of the UK’s Top-100 disruptive entrepreneurs innovating in their respective fields. Pip is the Founder & CEO of The Dots - a LinkedIn challenger designed around the networking needs of creators. A diversity advocate with a distinctive marmite laugh (you either love it or you hate it) Pip lives on a houseboat

with her husband in Kings Cross, London. Pip is on a mission to connect 1 million people to opportunities by 2018, helping build a stronger, more profitable and diverse creative sector. Ramona started in the creative industry in 2006, in Amsterdam. From a young age, she has been passionate about branding and design. In 2014, Ramona moved away from Amsterdam and took on a new challenge in London to expand the Dutch startup Targetoo Mobile DSP internationally. Ramona went beyond standard approaches; she won global briefs and made sure that objectives were

Today, Ramona manages Mobile Journey Ltd. Here her focus is on only mobile first solutions. Relaxation is… thinking about the universe.

My favourite quote is… “If everything seems under control, then you are not going fast enough.” - Mario Andretti

As CEO of Jellyfish, Rob has always maintained that people are the agency’s biggest asset. This year, Rob introduced a new learning and development programme to enable staff to build their own personal brand and maximise their contribution to the industry. As part of this, employees have access to Jellyfish Training, the agency’s dedicated training division. In 2016, Jellyfish achieved a place in The Sunday Times International Track

200, as well as The Sunday Times Tech Track 100, where Rob and his senior team were shortlisted for Best Management Team. Today, Rob aims to grow Jellyfish into a global boutique digital agency, a vision that is already coming to life. My one wish would be… to have met Nelson Mandela before he died.

Rob is MD of Graphite, a thriving digital agency with offices overlooking Brighton beach and on London’s Strand. Since 2009, Graphite has worked in partnership with some of the world’s biggest organisations to create digital products and campaigns with impact. Rob has steered the agency’s growth, working with clients including Costa, BP, Pfizer, Uniqlo and Shazam, to solve business challenges using the best of

digital design and technology. Rob is committed to shaping and influencing the digital industry for the better. As champion of Graphite’s Next Generation Programme and Sussex ambassador for BIMA’s Digital Day, Rob is enabling young people to gain access to, and flourish in, digital careers. I’m where I am today… because a digital pioneer inspired me at a school careers day.

Robert’s passion and ongoing contribution to digital is sharing his knowledge and expertise. This year Robert has spoken to the BIMA membership on the impact of GDPR, set up a not-for-profit marketing conference (Web Expo Guildford) on the future trends in digital and created a spin off to the Wirehive 100 awards called Spotlight, which is a series of thought leadership events aimed specifically at helping independent agencies grow.

As someone who succeeded in spite of rather than because of his time in school, Robert has championed a variety of initiatives over the past 12 months designed to help educate the next generation of digital including BIMA Digital Day. The role of Creative Technologist was created by him, for him and is singularly changing the relationship between creative and technology disciplines, creating new partnerships,

Shruti is the founder of Powr of You, which operates in the digital personal data economy. She launched Powr of You with an aim to empower people to benefit from the data that they’re creating. The company has now helped form a digital ecosystem that enables people to take back control over the benefits from their digital activities – to create a new digital asset class, opening up the data economy for people in the UK and now US, and already rewarding consumers between £10 to £50 every time their data is used.

Powr of You provides accurate, granular data on people’s behavior across mobile, browser, social, lifestyle apps such as fitness, music, e-commerce, to understand their digital life and touch points in a single, integrated view. The next big thing in digital… will be building innovative businesses with consumer trust and respect for privacy as a key differentiator.

With a PhD in Evolutionary Robotics, Siavash Mahdavi started Within, a company that used Artificial Intelligence to design 3D Printed products. Within made breakthroughs in the design of aircraft components, customised shoes and orthopaedic implants. He made his first successful exit when Autodesk made an offer to acquire Within for $90m in 2014. In 2016 Siavash founded the social enterprise Free_D, in order to realise

the potential he saw in 3D printing to educate and create employment for survivors of sex trafficking. Siavash has finally combined his passion of music with his expertise in AI and startups, founding AI Music, which plans to shake up the way in which music is created and consumed using AI. The innovation that’s excited me lately is… cancer-eating nanorobotsthan violence.

Simon stayed on track for ambitious growth for OLIVER Group in 2016, with new offices opening in Prague and Istanbul, as well as a UK northern hub in Manchester to add to offices in New York, Dublin, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. A key part of the growth agenda included the acquisition of content marketing agency Adjust Your Set, to ramp up the agency’s digital expertise. The agency also launched OLIVER Media to further support OLIVER Group’s mission to offer

agile, transparent solutions to clients through its Inside Agency model. Barclaycard, Siemens (in Germany) and Virgin Media all turned to the OLIVER model in 2016, bolstering OLIVER’s digital client list. Not many people know that I… set up OLIVER & Learn in 2014, a charitable foundation supporting educational projects in disadvantaged communities around the world.

Tara Hein-Phillips’ professional experience as a digital business leader spans 18 years, from global strategy and new product design to the management and implementation of large-scale digital projects and initiatives. She has spent the last 13 years running her own consultancy with a particular expertise and passion for digital education and innovation. A maker at heart, Tara currently spends her time working with US- and UK-based tech startups, mission-

He also co-founded Copdat, a data analytics startup disrupting the experiential marketing industry in Africa.
