HOLY CROSS SERVICE The Holy Cross Service Program is an integral part of student life at Bishop McNamara. As a school community we look to our students to live as Christ did, “feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, offering hospitality to the homeless, caring for the sick and visiting the imprisoned.” Students experience service as a formative process, not simply as a requirement to be met.

CAMPUS MINISTRY The Campus Ministry Department strives to carry out the vision of Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C. “to make God known, loved, and

served” by fostering the spiritual formation and transformation of the entire Bishop McNamara community. The five areas of focus are retreats, peer ministry, liturgy, service, and mission. The retreat program is responsible for assisting our community in coming to know Jesus Christ. Through schoolwide liturgies and other forms of prayer, campus ministry helps students to come to know God. Campus ministry provides opportunities for students to love and serve the Lord by helping the poor and marginalized.

PEER MINISTRY This senior Theology Studies course enables students to build self-awareness, become a mentor for 9th grade students, develop a spirituality based on contemplation and action, and investigate, both spiritually and academically, the roles of service and leadership in Christianity and Catholicism. Students serve as retreat leaders and peer mentors to the entire community.

FINE ARTS The Fine Arts Department at Bishop McNamara High School offers one of the most extensive arts programs in the Washington, D.C. area. Classroom instruction is offered in music, dance, art and theater. Students also have a spectrum of performance options, including jazz, orchestra, and band ensembles, theatrical productions, student art exhibits, ballet, tap, and traditional African music and dance.

FINE ARTS DIPLOMA ENDORSEMENT (FADE) This program serves to refine students’ talent(s) and skill(s), cultivate a community of respect, appreciation and understanding of the arts, and acknowledge students’ dedication to the Fine Arts throughout their high school career. Students who graduate with the Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement receive a notation on their transcripts and a special honors certificate at graduation.

ATHLETICS Bishop McNamara maintains a proud tradition of athletics in the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) at the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels. We expect our athletes, coaches, and fans to display the highest standards of sportsmanship and self-discipline. The Athletic Department at Bishop McNamara seeks to educate the whole person, not just the athlete. As an extension of the classroom, athletics at Bishop McNamara seeks to instill Christian values on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the community.

COUNSELING The Counseling Center offers a comprehensive, developmental program that meets the personal, social, emotional, academic, college, and career development needs of each student. Our professional counselors provide support in a warm, inviting, and safe environment where students are always welcome and important. We provide services to maximize students’ potential and achievement while fostering the independence and self-expression required for life-long learning. In partnership with teachers, administrators, parents, and guardians, school counselors assist students as they learn to be effective problem solvers, responsible decision-makers, and critical thinkers who will become independent, productive members of society. Personal, college, and career counseling provides students with the tools necessary to grow spiritually and personally while preparing for life after high school.
