President Trump’s remarks on Saturday, “Violence on both sides” and his scripted denouncement, of the White supremacists’ groups on Monday and his retracement of his statement, “There are good people on both sides,” on Tuesday, is a new low for our country and the office of the president. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Condemns President Trump’s Charlottesville Remarks
Today, ConCongresswoman gresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Eddie Bernice Johnson issued the following statement after President Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville, VA. Recently at a press conference, the president stated “both sides” were to blame for white nationalist violence in Charlottesville and he continued to defend white nationalism:
“I am deeply disturbed by President Trump’s unsatisfactory response to the incident in Charlottesville, VA. He was elected by the American people to be a leader with the hopes that he would unify and strengthen our nation. Instead, his most recent comments will only continue to divide us as a country. It is long overdue for the president to display the strong sense of leadership that is expected of an
elected official, leader of the free world, and President of the United States. White nationalism has no place in our democratic society. President Trump should unequivocally denounce such extremism and frankly he has been reluctant to do so.

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Announces $51,810 Federal Grant to the City of Wilmer Fire Department Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced that the City of Wilmer was awarded $51,810 in Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funds will be used toward the City’s improved response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel: “The announcement of this award is excellent news for the Wilmer Fire Department,” said
Congresswoman Johnson. “Every day our firefighters risk their lives to keep us safe, so it is important that we make every effort to support the important work and service they provide to our communities. This department is well-deserving of this competitive grant that will be used to improve their ability to perform their jobs safely and effectively. I am very proud of the men and women who serve at the Wilmer Fire Department for their selfless service they provide. As a senior Texas member of Congress, I will continue to push for ad-
ditional resources and support.” This grant was awarded as a part of FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. Congresswoman Johnson has been a strong advocate for grants to local first responders in the 30th Congressional District.

Successful, Active Armed Forces Member, General Dix is Launching a Military Based Training Program for Dallas’ Youth Debra Abron
Just last month the Dallas Poverty Task Force reported some very shocking statistics concerning poverty on both national and local levels to the general public. Nationally, the average white male is reporting assets of $110,000 as compared to the average black male reporting $17,000, which means there is 83% deficit for Black men. Here in the city of Dallas, 90% of available jobs and those which are already filled are North of I-30. And when it comes to income, 50% of all households earn less than $50,000, while 28.4% of our Dallas households are pulling in a meager $25,000 per year or less. Also, these stats reveal, only 1 out of 10 graduates of the Dallas Independent School District are prepared for college, and when given 6years to complete their studies, only 2 out of 10 college students actually graduate. Reportedly, lack of homeownership in the city of Dallas presents another issue, because we have one of the highest degrees of single family renters in the country.Last week, the City of Dallas was honored to have a very high ranking military official in its presence, seeking ways to address the issues mentioned above, by designing a special military based program to enrich the lives of our youth. His name is General Richard Dix and his mission this past week involved meeting with our Youth at the Youth Detention Centerin Dallas and speaking with clergy and leaders of the Friendship West Baptist church, as well as community leaders. General Dix shared a very interesting story with the Elite News about his deployment to Afghanistan 11 years ago. He and several members of his unit sat down one evening and discussed what they could do to save our youth, who at the time were on the other side of the globe. A simple plan was drafted, however, it did not come to fruition at the time. General Dix says, “I have always wanted to give back the blessings, God gave to me.”General Dix has served the Armed Forces of the United States of America for 25 years and was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. He holds
a Bachelors of Science in Marketing from South Carolina State, which is an HBCU, a M.A. in Procurement and Acquisition Management, from Webster University and a M.S. in National Security Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. For quite some time during his career, he has been able to maintain a stable income of six figures and has worked with several of the nation’s Fortune 100 companies. When asked what he believes to be some of the biggest problems plaguing our youth here in Dallas, General Dix cites lack of realistic goal setting, lack of skills and lack of gainful employment. He says when he spoke with Dallas youth at the Detention Center this past Saturday, they wanted to know if there would be a chance of them being able to get good jobs someday. Rather than answering their question, he started to ask them some probing questions, such as, “What do you want to be in life?”, “What path will you take to get there?”, “Once you get there, how will you maintain your position?” and “How many of you are giving back to your communities”. Many of the children had an idea of what they want to be in life, but not very many have ever been on the path to taking the necessary steps to make sure their dreams are manifested.Presently, General Dix and his team of volunteers are devising a way to make the ROTC program accessible to youth who have prior offenses. As it stands now, the 4 entry paths for the ROTC program are High School, College, Enlistment with the Armed Forces and a special program which allows working youth to enter rOTC through a program called Army Partnership for Youth Success (APYSP). The details are still in the developmental stages, however, meetings are also being held with City of Dallas officials to make sure the program accomplishes its goals. General Dix will leverage social media and his relationship with GSR Sports Talk radio to make sure his information about his plan is widely disseminated. We wish General Dix all the best and are willing to support him in anything he deems necessary and practical, in terms of reversing

PROTEST PLANNED AT CITYSQUARE AGAINST GERALD BRITT Darryl E. Blair Sr.
TWITTER, has a gentleman who is exposing the names of the Charlottesville protestors. A former African American Councilwoman wants to expose those who want to follow the agenda lead by Phil Kingston who admitted that the blacks in his district were not the ones who approached him about Lee Statue in his district, it was the LGBT community who said they did no9t like to visit the Park amidst statues that were symbols of racism. But when I confronted Phil Kingston with a list of his district board appointees, they were all white. When I appealed to Gerald Britt, an executive with City Square who is funded to address the homeless issue in this City, he says that Kingston asked him because the rest of the black leadership would not get involved. I asked him who elected him to speak for the black people in Dallas. He acknowledged that he was
not elected but he supports Kingston’s position. By protesting in a cemetery???, when we already have a democratic process in place if we want to change things. As a Christian minister, if you don’t have respect for representative and the democratic process, do you respect the law that says no protests in cemeteries and at funerals. When did we decide 100 years later what the widows wanted the memorials to represent racism when it was the Africans who brought honoring fallen soldiers and warriors to America and started what is known as Memorial Day. It was in Charlottesville South Carolina at a Confederate prison camp then under Union Control that the freed slaves dug graves and decorated the Union soldiers graves with flowers. The widows of the confederates put their pensions together and built these Hugh monuments for the poor white Confederate soldiers
who lost their lives and could not afford headstones. Can you respect your ancestors who went about their business and built their own schools, educated their own, lived in unity. Our elected representatives from President Obama, our state representatives, the majority of this current council decided that protest is not the route Texans want to take. We appealed to our elected leaders to stay focused on fighting unjust laws within the seats of government. Rev. Waters chairs the MLK Community Center, once the nation’s premiere center that was the result of blacks in Dallas working with white leaders to address our concerns. Yet Michael Waters supported taking the MLK Parade out of local control. Dallas has the only MLK parade under government control. The Mayor admitted at his press conference that he was surprised that black leadership said they have too

many other issues to take care of. It is not their fight at this time. This mayor is moving in the right direction by putting the debate through a democratic process but he stopped short when he refuses to consulting with past Mayors and Board members on how they handled the issue before him and the agreements and policies that were made to address not only racial healing but economic equity. Dallas blacks decided to negotiate for things for ourselves, to tell our history. By now, Mayor Rawlings should not submit to political correctness. He wants to take the statue down to pander to blacks in front of the press but behind the horseshoe, he has not done a good job of addressing a poor public transportation system, homeless, and public schools in Dallas. So I challenge Rev. Michael Waters to give us back the MLK

The INTERVIEW Benjamin Vann is Making an Impact in Fair Park with Impact House
About a month ago, in the July 7 issue of the Elite News, we featured a brief write-up on Mr. Benjamin Vann in the “Caught You Doing Something Good” section of our paper. We selected him because of the value he is bringing to the Fair Park Community through a business he created called, Impact House. Several days ago, we interviewed the man behind the recently created Impact House. Mr. Benjamin Vann says he stumbled across this jewel in the rough, piece of property through a Facebook link. Once he made a connection with the realtor to view the space, it was love at first site. Immediately he began to dream about the possibilities the space could offer the surrounding and very diverse community. There are many individuals who have the desire to serve the community, however, being a public servant appears to be part of Mr. Vann’s genetic makeup. After graduating from college, he decided to take on the position of high school football coach at Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas and held this position for a year. As coach of the team, he found himself assuming a number of different roles such

When I went to church, church members had permission to whip me when I got out of line. Back in the day, parents would never ask another adult in their church community, why they whipped their child, instead they would ask the child what they did to get a whipping from the adult. However nowadays, many parents don’t have the same values as what were commonly seen decades ago. The partnership between Operation Community Care and HIpHop4Hope is like a match made in heaven. DALLAS BLACK DANCE THEATRE FEATURED IN BLOOMBERG PHILANTHROPIES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOLLOWING TWO-YEAR INITIATIVE Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) is featured in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Annual Report following the conclusion of its participation in Bloomberg’s Philanthropies’ Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) program. During the two-year initiative, Bloomberg Philanthropies provided $30 million to small and midsized nonprofit cultural organizations around the country to help strengthen their operational and programming efforts, including training in fundraising, audience development and board member engagement. The invitation-only program supported nonprofit cultural organizations based in six cities: Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles and San Francisco. All organizations are locally or internationally recognized nonprofits that have been in existence for at least two years. The grants were unrestricted so that recipients could use them to address their greatest needs. Dallas Black Dance Theatre used its grant to increase institutional marketing, audience development and database management. Bloomberg Philanthropies partnered with the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland to develop curricula and conduct training for the AIM program in each city. The comprehensive workshops engaged organizations around activities that strengthened their longterm health and goals and included consultations and implementation
support for arts managers and their boards. Women’s Health Threatened by Restrictions to Medicaid Services When the Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010, states were given the opportunity to expand Medicaid coverage. After a 2012 Supreme Court decision that allowed states to opt-out of expanding Medicaid, 19 states chose opt-out while 32 states and the District of Columbia chose to expand Medicaid. Texas chose not to expand Medicaid and has looked for creative ways to cover its large population such as employing programs through a Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver. Section 1115 of the Social Security Act allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to waive provisions of Medicaid law in order for states to have flexibility to plan and improve eligible programs.
There are several purposes of Section 1115 waivers: expand eligibility to those not covered by traditional Medicaid, provide services not typically provided by Medicaid, and use an innovative delivery system that improves care and reduces cost. While Texas has had a Section 1115 waiver to implement improved care delivery and increase coverage for uninsured and underinsured residents, Texas has also applied for a family planning waiver that would restrict access to patients. Texas has applied for a Section 1115 family planning demonstration waiver, which would expand its existing state-funded program. As the Women’s Health Program, the Obama Administration denied the 1115 waiver application,

Out of the Eyes of a Layman “Put, or Allowed” Esther 4:14
Bro. Gene Turner
God, put President Obama into the presidency, but God allowed President Trump to become president. What the difference in the two (2) words. First of all God put President Obama in office after two hundred and twenty years of the existence of the office in the United States of America. During and after this office came into existence, no Black man had ever become the president of the United States of America. It was never the plan for a Black man to serve in this office. After two hundred and twenty years, a Black man becomes president of the United States of America. Forty three (43rd) presidents had served before President Obama became the forty fourth (44th) president of the United States of America. No Black person ever thought they would live to see a Black man become the president of these United States of America. President Obama became the president of America for such a time as this (Esther 4:14). What happened here is the fact that God Himself knew when He wanted this to happen, and when the time came there was not anything that could stop it from happening. You see, God did the same thing with President Obama that He did with Esther. Esther was in a Persian Land, and became a Queen in
that land. By becoming a queen in that land it served to save a nation of people who were Jews. Esther doubted whether she should have this role in a Persian land that hated her people. Her uncle Mardecai said to her, “who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this. God put her there, that she would be able to save her people. “For Such A Time As This” God did not put President Trump in office, but allowed him to become president. God knew what he would do in this office, and he did exactly what God knew he would do. First of all God knew President Trump would cause the people of God who are called by His name to humble themselves and wake up to the reality of their God, and stop doing things that God do not want to happen. Such as being slowful, and not pressing forward, not praying, and humbling themselves toward God. You see, God Himself put people in some places because He knows that such a person will do what He wants done. He allows other persons to be in certain places to cause people to gain an understanding that only this particular person can cause them to understand. Some of us had cut our prayer life in half; some of us had stopped acting like people who are called by His name. Before President Trump became president the people of God, became at EASE about everything. I always
did pray, but after Trump became president I started prying more each day. People began to understand I am traveling in the wrong directions. This is why Trump was allowed to become president. When Trump became president. It got the attention of the whole world. People started marching all over the world. They knew this was a bad thing. You see, God allowed Saul to become King in the land of Israel, because of certain people, but He put David in that office in order to do what He (God) wanted done in the land. He knew also that David would lead the people after the will of God. When God put President Obama in the office, He put him there to rectify the office of the president of the United States of America. The statement in the constitution was not being carried out, and the leaders were not putting things into place and order to honor these written laws. So, when God put President Obama into that office, He did not put President Obama there in order for him to select Black people for position, just because they were Black. He put President Obama in office in order to equalize things for everyone, and not one sided as they have been doing all these two hundred and twenty years. Many Blacks thought President Obama should have done more for Black people than anyone else had done. He did, he made everything equal for all people. Not just for Black people, or any people of color, because he was a Black person himself. He made things equal because it was the right thing to do, and when things are
done in the right order, it is the best thing that could ever happen to the underprivileged individuals in any case. When God put a person into something, put someone over something He also is with them all the way, and He helps them put together whatever His chosen person puts together. That is why President Trump and his cabinet will never be able to dismiss Obama Care (Affordable Care Act), or anything else that God helped President Obama to bring into existence. No matter what it is, Trump and his cabinet will not be able to discard it, because God Himself helped President Obama to put it together. Nobody can do away with anything that God has put a part of Himself into. The world will see and understand what I am saying in this writing. May God bless you REAL GOOD, and may He ever keep you in His loving care. May He continue to hold America in His hands as He has for all these years.
