Regina Farr Ross, affectionately known as “Aunt Dee Dee” graced us with her infectious spirit for 103 years. Even though she was over 100 years old, she had the mind of a woman Regina Farr Ross half her age. “Aunt Dee Dee” Although I called her “Aunt Dee Dee”, her friends and many relatives referred to her as “Big Mama”. To those that knew her this name was so befitting because she was so loving and kind to all that crossed her path. My father, Mr. Blair, founder of The Elite News, always remarked how “Aunt Dee Dee”, who was married to his mother’s brother, Uncle Otto, was a strong woman. When he would visit her in Fort Worth, she would always make him feel so at home. Her love and affection would always remind him of his childhood and the memories of his family. At that time, “Aunt Dee Dee” was his only surviving family on his mother, Cora’s, side of the family. When my husband Vernon and I went to visit her on our 29th wedding anniversary on September 24, 2017, I was in awe of her candidness and infectious spirit. I was even See AUNT DEE DEE, page 11

LaShante Williams By LaShante Williams I often hear that breakfast is also a HUGE challenge. Today I want to share some breakfast options to help alleviate that issue and perhaps add some variety and flavor to your normal daily breakfast. If you want to add superfoods (foods that can have health-promoting properties such as reducing one’s risk of disease or improving any aspect of physical or emotional health and have an unusually high content of antioxidants, vitamins, or other nutrients) into your wellness diet, breakfast is a great place to start. One small adjustment to your regular morning meal can put your day on the right track.

heat until just soft, about 3 minutes. Add 1 generous cup baby spinach, season with sea salt and pepper and stir until wilted; transfer to a shallow bowl. Cook an egg in another teaspoon coconut oil and season with salt and pepper; serve over the spinach. Whisk together 1 cup 2-percent Greek yogurt, 2 teaspoons green tea matcha powder and 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract. Layer half the yogurt in a glass, top with a few raspberries and 1 tablespoon sliced almonds. Repeat with the remaining yogurt and more raspberries and almonds. Top a scrambled egg or omelet with 1 slice smoked salmon and a generous handful of crisp sprouts, such as sunflower or radish. lashantew@gmail.com

Life Insurance is actually apart of Building a Financial Plan.
By Alonda Price
One of the most important cornerstones of Financial Literacy and balanced financial wellness is Life Insurance. When most of us think of life insurance we envision death and the burial process or maybe final expense planning. While we recognize these are a few solutions Life Insurance provides, we neglect to realize it offers living benefits as well. Three key things about Life Insurance with respect to living benefits I find fascinating are the tax-advantages, minimalization of risk, and the riders/add-on options available within the solutions. There are many types of Life Insurance and there is no “one size fits all” option available. Your decision should be based upon your financial need. It’s a great tool to start with when you’re beginning the journey of building your financial foundation and eventually your financial life. As an introduction, and a broad generalization of the subject, there are fundamentally two types of Life Insurance, Temporary and Permanent. When you think of temporary insurance think of an insurance which is based upon a term or timeframe or maybe an attachment to a group or an association, like an

employer. These insurance products typically have an expiration date. Are you able to extend this date? Yes, but often at grave cost. It’s a great plan to have under the appropriate circumstances. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have permanent insurance. This type of insurance tends to last the duration of the life or it may have a maturity date of age 100(+) of the insured. Bottom line, it’s intended to last the lifetime of the insured. What’s awesome about permanent insurance is it often has a cash value attached. Examples of permanent life insurance include Whole Life and Universal Life or Cash Value Life Insurance. In many cases cash value policies afford you the opportunity to have market-like returns without the market risk.
Shelley Thrash It should be noted both types of insurances, temporary and permanent, are equally important and have their place. One plan should not be valued greater than the other based on the highlighted observations above but utilized to enhance and build upon the financial plan specific to each individual. The fact of the matter is you want to protect what you have worked hard for. So, when we consider starting a financial plan insurance should take priority as it is the protection needed while building your wealth. In due course it’s doing right by your family to have a plan, whether that plan is to leave an inheritance or to leave behind no weighted responsibilities. It’s easy, its important, and you can’t afford not to do it.

HEALTHY HAIR GOALS pulling out hair strands. HAIR SHAMPOOING: EXTENSION By Rikki Burke
Different extension applications and its proper care I’m a girl who loves some extensions. Hair extensions can be worn by a diverse group of women. There are several different types of hair extension application such as sew-in, fusions, clip-in extension, tape-in extensions, micro-links, wigs and hair pieces. These extension methods can be broken down into 4 different attachments; weft, stand by strand, Rikki Burke clip/tape, and micro link. Choosing a method that works best for you depends on your hair type, lifestyle, as well as your budget. Once you have chosen your method, its time you focus on the proper care of your extensions. Here’s some love on your extension tips.
BRUSHING: Brush your extensions with love using a satin strand looper brush or a cushion paddle brush. Treat your extensions like it’s your natural hair. Detangling in sections works best for me. Start with the back section working your way to the top section. Remember to always detangle from the ends on up, preventing shredding and
Do not and I repeat DO NOT RAVEL the extensions during the shampoo process. Wet your extensions piece by piece to prevent tangling using a downward motion when shampooing and rinsing. I highly recommend that you allow your stylist to do the maintenance if you have your extensions are sewn-in. But, if you’re that DIY type of chick for best results, shampoo in the shower tilting your hair back instead of forward over a sink. Make sure to thoroughly rinse out all product so your extensions won’t be limp. Detangle and dry. It’s equally important to dry your natural hair as well. You won’t want to grow mold, or would you?
STORE, WRAP, OR TIE IT BACK: Just in case your extensions can’t be removed before bed or any physical activities you can place them in a ponytail. Try a high ponytail when working out to limit their exposure to sweat. Go with a low ponytail while sleeping to prevent tangles and creases. Store them if they are detachable in an air- tight container.

What to Wear for a Job Interview
By Devoreaux Walton A job interview is an opportunity for you and a potential employer to get to know each other and determine if there is opportunity for a fruitful future together. As the candidate, you are interested in learning about the company and the role to determine if it's what you're looking for. The company, on the other hand, wants to know about your background, work ethic, and expertise to determine if you are what they are looking for. As you prepare for your next job interview, attention to detail should be paid to both your resume and your attire alike.
Both ladies and gentlemen should choose a dark color suit, either navy, gray or black, with a solid color shirt, and for gentlemen, pair it with a solid color tie and dark socks. Job interview attire should always be clean and ironed. I encourage people to lay out their clothing the evening before an interview to have everything prepared and ready to go in the morning! This way, as you get dressed for the interview, you are able to be calm and Devoreaux Walton relaxed instead of panicked and rushed to find something to wear.
In most cases, the standard attire to wear to a job interview at a company's office is a suit. There are exceptions, of course, because if the recruiter or hiring manger requests you to wear something else to a job interview, for example, denim jeans, then you should follow the guidance you've been given. But in most job interview situations, your attire is not a discussion topic, because it's assumed that you know to wear business professional. When wearing business professional, there are a few things ladies need to keep in mind to be appropriate and professional. Ladies, if you choose to wear a skirt or dress suit, be mindful of the length. The hem, which is the bottom of the skirt or dress, should be at the knee cap or top of the knee. Mid-thigh skirts and dresses are not appropriate for a job interview. As you sit down, skirts and dresses always tend to rise up, you do not want to be over-exposed during an interview. Ladies also should be mindful of a blouse's neckline for job interview attire. Showing cleavage is inappropriate and distracting during a job interview. Instead, opt for a blouse that fully covers your chest.
Dressed appropriately for an interview, your high level of professionalism will be the first thing your interviewer notices when they greet you.

Research suggest; “Americans are not in a great state of health. One of the contributing factors is that most people link health exclusively to the physical body. While the physical body is important, when we only associate health with our physical body, we fail to recognize other factors that contribute to our overall well-being such as; spiritual, emotional, physical and the mental self which make up the whole body.” Your health is dependent on all four facets, as opposed to just one of the four. by Adrain Moffett As a teenager in high school I spent quality time with my older brother, Darnell Adrain Moffett Moffett, at his college during my summer break, we served others, participated in many college and community activities, which led to my idol, Darnell decision to pledged (Nu Eta Chapter) of Omega Psi Phi at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1975. Eventually, I realized that the service that he and many other Omega men possessed was sincere and true Omega spirit. I saw the Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift in my brother along with other Omega men. Following in the footsteps of my idol, Darnell, in the spring of 1985, I had the privilege of “crossing those burning sands” and became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Next, my love for service led me to Omicron Gamma Gamma (OGG) the second largest Omega Psi Phi graduate chapter in DFW, chartered March 10, 1986, led by Basileus Brother David “Petro” Washington. OGG services the Arlington, Grand Prairie, and Mansfield areas. As a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., I have the pleasure of embracing the love of service with OGG throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
After joining OGG graduate chapter over a year ago, I’ve seen so many inspiring Brothers go out into our communities to serve and uplift those in need by hard work and dedication. Last year alone OGG completed over 70 community service projects as well as assisted those in need in the southeast Texas area (Port Arthur) during the Hurricane Harvey disaster. Unfortunately, many times the community only sees and hears the negative news when it comes to fraternities. I think it’s important to see and know the involvement that Omega Psi Phi has not only in our black communities but for all ethnicities. Omicron Gamma Gamma (OGG) chapter is inspiring and continues to inspire our young leaders to excel in all areas of life. OGG has established a mentor program which is parallel to none through its investing of time and resources and counseling about life and leadership skills for young men and women.
