Rep. Eric Johnson Call For INTERIM STUDY ON MAIL-IN BALLOT FRAUD & REDISTRICTING way that does not disenfranchise voters.
Representative Eric Johnson District 100 On Monday, October 2, 2017, Representative Eric Johnson (D-Dallas) sent a letter to Texas House Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) calling for him to set an interim charge for the House Committee on Elections to examine the mail-in ballot voting process and recommend ways to overhaul the system to make it less susceptible to fraud in a
“Mail-in ballot voter fraud is a real and deplorable practice that must be stopped. The eleventh hour ‘fix’ by Republicans during the special session did nothing to fix the problem. We need to study this issue over the interim and pass a comprehensive, bipartisan reform during the 86th Texas Legislature,” Johnson stated. Representative Johnson also called on Speaker Straus to set an interim charge for the House Committee on Redistricting to explore alternatives to legislative redistricting. “The House Redistricting Committee has yet to meet once since being impaneled, despite receiving a full committee budget at the taxpayers’ expense. Speaker Straus should call on the House Redistricting Committee to meet during the interim and finally have an intelligent, bipartisan discussion on redistricting, especially considering the current case before the United States Supreme Court,” Johnson stated.

Pastor Marc Blair Believes God Can Fix ANYONE
Pastor Marc Blair & Co Pastor Dicloria Blair
By Arielle Johnson
Nothing short of a miracle could have caused Pastor Blair to turn his life around. He had reached a point which seemed to be the point of no return. Pastor Blair was homeless and strung out on drugs. His strategy for avoiding the embarrassment of running into people who knew him, was to stay hidden during the day, and look for food and drugs at night. Pastor Blair is the youngest son of Debra Blair Abron, who is the daughter of the Elite News Founder, William Blair, Jr. As a small child, his grandfather was always traveling with him, which meant he knew just as many people as his grandfather knew. Unless a person moves away from the community they grew up in, they are going to run into people they know frequently, as was the case with Pastor Blair. Each time he had one of these encounters, these individuals were kind enough to tell him he had to do something to get his life back on track. However, he made no major changes in his life,
although he was dissatisfied with his lifestyle. One person who has always been in Pastor Blair’s corner, has been his mother. She did as much as she could for him in his former state, but sometimes had to do it secretly to avoid ridicule from his father. It wasn’t that Pastor Blair’s father had stopped loving him, it was because he felt he needed to show tough love to help his son regain control over his life. Meanwhile, Debra continued to pray with her son and for a brief period of time, would allow Pastor Blair to sleep in the family car. Unfortunately, when his father found out, he immediately put a stop to it. Also, anytime she didn’t hear from her son, she would go out into the streets herself to look for her son. Approximately, 10 years ago, Pastor Blair was badly beaten by a group of men, and was left for dead. But God chose to spare his life. Not only did he spare his life, but he was starting to renew his mind. Pastor Blair finally admit-
ted to himself he wanted a better life and that he was tired of the precariousness of his day to day living. But he had no plan whatsoever. One day as he was lying in the street, he felt the sensation of a brushing of a hand on his shoulder, and before he knew it, he started running. He ran until he got to Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dallas. When he got there, he noticed a van and an outreach worker with outstretched hands, offering him a chance to get cleaned up. With virtually no positive options to pursue, Pastor Blair hopped into the Austin Restoration Ministries van and headed to Austin, Texas. Austin Restoration Ministries focuses on rehabilitating people with drug and alcohol addictions so they can help them regain the family they have lost. Not only do they provide counseling to the people they extend a helping hand to, but they also provide food, shelter and discipleship training. Those who have been specifically groomed by ARM to become ministers, are sent out to different areas across the
United States to establish their own churches and into the rough neighborhoods to bring people back to rehabilitate. Pastor Blair has been able to return to his community here in Dallas, and bring back 10 addicts he personally knew, who were ready for a change in their lives. Pastor Blair and his wife head of the Ministry House of Restoration church in San Antonio, Texas and their two right hands in ministry are Mr. and Mrs. David and Felicia Oakley. Eventually, with the proper training, the two will be sent to another area of the country to establish their ministry. Be sure to visit the church’s website at mhorsc.com to find out more about this miraculous ministry.

When I hear a Christians declare, “I’m just a sinner,” I feel like responding, “That’s what you used to be.” A lot of people cling to a view of themselves as a patchedup, slightly-better-than-before version of their old self. The Word of God contradicts that opinion: “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things have passed away....” (2 Cor. 5:17. NIV). According to Scripture, we’re dramatically different once we are complete in the Lord. In essence what I'm saying is your Identity's intimately attached to your Destiny!
Kennedy Young Jr: Lead Pastor
away from opportunities to share the gospel and serve God’s kingdom. It’s much easier to spiritually bankrupt someone who already thinks of himself as “just a sinner” than it is to conquer a disciple who knows he is a child of the loving heavenly Father. Our Bible proclaims and promises "we are More than conquerors through him who loved us." (Rom. 8:37) Our true identity is defined not by our past actions but by the Savior’s. Jesus purchased our lives with His blood and brought us into relationship with the Father, who adopted us as His beloved children. We have every reason to hold our heads high, stand firm, and courageously proclaim the gospel. Just remember Jesus' death certificate became our birth certificate!
The question is, Will Believers trust in what they feel, or will they believe what God says about them? His Word calls us saints (Rom. 1:7), disciples (John 13:3435), and fellow heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17), and uncondemned By His Amazing Grace, (Rom.8:1). If your opinion is that Kennedy Young Jr | East Gate you are “just a sinner,” then you MBC Dallas cannot fully experience, express or exhibit your identity as a follower of God. Believing what the Lord says about our new self is a choice. Satan certainly schemes to convince believers that Scripture doesn’t apply to them. He knows that people held captive by spiritual poverty back

Black People Please !!!!!!!!!!! What a week, what a week, what a week, what has America come to ?, what has the state of Texas come to ?, and more importantly what has the city of Dallas come to ?, There are things going on when you look out nationally you look at Trump the Egomaniac Redneck who occupies the White House is not referred to as president Trump but he is only referred to as Trump or better yet Trump the Tramp.
redneck Plantation mentality.
This presidency has gone overboard and it's disrespect for humankind and his disrespect certainly for minorities, tragically the mass media has looked the other way from the more serious accusations against the Trump Administration as relates to Russia and collusion on behalf of the Russians and the Republican Party notably Trump he challenges NFL honors to fire the SOB's who take a knee in respect and disrespect to free speech and peaceful protest. Then Jerry Jones who's forever looking for a way to get in front of a camera or have himself quoted has found his way back in on this matter and speak in behalf of his team, stating that nobody on his team will take A Knee, well now I hope all you Cowboys fans here’s the old plantation mentality, “ No sir my Negroes not going to take a Knee” note should not be able to say that, but we got these silly fanatical Cowboy fans supporting the
Moving on and we get a little closer to talking about the elections it's really tragic that an individual who is running for public office seeking support, or anyone’s support for public office does not take the time or put forth the effort to do due diligence and prepare themselves financially to represent our Collective voices, how is it that you can run for public office and you haven't taken the time or effort to raise money for your own campaign and yet you want to run for public office. I don't see that as being a good Steward of your time or efforts let alone being a good Steward of the public Trust, those of you who are running for public office and know what you're doing need not apply step away and let someone who is able to be a representative of the people just food for thought. Then Harvey Weinstein situation really has brought to mind what it's like to have people kick you while you are down. I am not a supporter of what he has supposedly done, but I find it awfully cowardice and tragic of the individuals who now want to Bunch up on him, and state how he was egregious and his action can be looked upon as Heroes, when they were cowards at the onset of the supposed encounters with Harvey Weinstein then you have the biggest coward of them all a 6”3 260 pound muscle bound man in
the way of Terry Crews, Actor and former NFL athlete who had the audacity to step up and say he was groped while at an awards program in Hollywood by a producer, that's really tragic I don't feel sorry for Terry Crews I feel sorry for his fans and people who could have benefited from him opening his mouth, but instead this coward sold his soul for jelly roll, not speaking up for self or for the disrespect of his wife in her presence, but instead he kept his mouth closed because he wanted to continue to collect the check this Nigger coward is not reflective of our forefathers who fought hard and stood on principle. Terry Crews is a coward and finally, the Boy Scouts what have we here ? I thought the Boy Scouts was in place for boys to have their own independence for them to be able to be among one another however, now they want to include girls isn't that what the Girl Scouts was for ? this country we call America has lost its place we have gone away from what got us to this point, but instead start veering off the path and getting lost along the way. I pray that we come back to our reality, and bring us back to a place where we are focused moving forward and be Progressive, this has been a very tumultuous past week and yet Texas/ OU weekend is upon us, wow can you believe black folks being more supportive of Texas/ OU, but did not support Prairie View /Grambling shame on you ! remember when you don't know your history you're doomed to repeat it, wow what a week! Until next time “Watch your Conduct”.
CAUGHT YOU DOING SOME THING GOOD!!! The 2nd Annual Femcees and Fashion Expo By Arielle Johnson On Sunday, October 22, 2017, Promochics will be presenting it’s 2nd Annual Femcees and Fashion Expo. This year the theme is “Dare to Be Aware”. The event organizer and CEO of Promochics, Nicole Arrington
said, “There is a lot of competition and fighting in the Reality Television world. Collaboration among women appears to be at an all time low. With our event, we are forcing women to work and collaborate with each other.” Nicole Arrington pointed out to us, in the Hip Hop World, women don’t have proper representation.
“Our show is giving aspiring artists and models a platform. The show will be a Rip the runway type of show. And yes, we have a lot of inexperienced models, but we want to train and teach them, then create other opportunities for them. We will keep a database to help them get exposure and build up their resume. We also hope to help develop entrepreneurs and
leaders from this group. You can find out more about this upcoming event by visiting their Facebook page entitled, “Femcees and Fashion.” A big shout out to Nicole for putting this together. We can’t wait to see the final product.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road unforeseen costs. The side effects of privatization of city properties often lead to gentrification, profitization and elimination of oversight which promotes equal access for bids and employment.
The November 7 Campaign for the City Bond election tends to remind me of scenes from the 1939 classic “Wizard of Oz”. The purse strings have loosened and the “lollipop guild” is ready to sing and deliver the goods. Campaign signs sponsored by Dallas Bond are beginning to populate key Southern voting precincts. Constituents are being encouraged to follow the Yellow Brick Road to Emerald City. The Great Wizard awaits with the solutions to homelessness, parks, economics, and public safety. Parks, Privatization, Profit and Payback are some of the common themes that the voting communities should be aware of. Fair Park is on the road to becoming privatized by the city leaders. The privatization of a government function involves transferring ownership of the associated business processes or

Over 200,000 Southern sector Voters are in a position to change the course on November 7 and in the aftermath. It is time to replace the “Yellow Bricks” with an infrastructure that will foster political, economic and social equity across the Mason-Dixon line in Dallas. DALLAS (Oct. 10, 2017) – In coming weeks, Dallas citizens will vote on a City of Dallas capital bond program with 10 propositions totaling $1.05 billion – for streets, libraries, parks, infrastructure and more in critical need of improvement, expansion and/or replacement – that does not require a property tax rate increase. “Dallas has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, and with that good fortune comes an obligation to invest into critical resources like our parks and libraries and address crucial maintenance and infrastructure needs,” said former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk. With the election a month away, the Dallas Bond Campaign has now launched its get-out-the-vote effort with details at dallasbondcampaign.com where voters can request a yard sign or speaker, find early voting locations, endorse
Nov. 7, and early voting runs Oct. 23-Nov. 3.
More than 50 percent of the bond program is devoted to city streets and transportation-related improvements. The balance provides for new and improved city parks and recreation centers, libraries and public-safety facilities; enhanced flood protection; badly needed repairs to buildings at historic Fair Park, performing arts and city facilities; expanded homeless assistance facilities; and economic development projects related to new neighborhoods and retail areas. “This comprehensive bond program will greatly improve the quality of life in Dallas and the economic vibrancy of our city,” said Dale Petroskey, CEO of the Dallas Regional Chamber. “We strongly encourage voters to vote yes for all 10 propositions of the bond program, which importantly will not require a property tax rate increase.” The 10 propositions are as follows: Proposition A for $534 million to
tion; Proposition B for $262 million to create, improve and expand city parks and recreation facilities, including Klyde Warren Park and new parks across Dallas; Proposition C for $50 million for crucial renovations and improvements to existing buildings at Fair Park; Proposition D for $49 million to improve and expand flood protection and storm drainage facilities; Proposition E for $16 million to replace and repair library facilities and construct a new library; Proposition F for $14 million for repairing and improving cultural and performing arts facilities; Proposition G for $32 million for repairing, improving and constructing new fire and police facilities; Proposition H for $18 million to repair and improve City Hall and other city facilities; Proposition I for $55 million for economic development projects across the city; and Proposition J for $20 million to improve and expand homeless assistance facilities.
tober 2016, the City held 31 public input meetings across the City. Using this input, the City Council created the Citizens Bond Task Force to assist the City Manager and City Council to review and select projects for the 2017 Capital Bond Program. The City Council reviewed their recommendations June 2016 and made modifications to the proposed package. On Aug. 9, 2017, the City Council adopted the $1.05 billion bond program and ordered the election for Nov. 7, 2017. "I strongly encourage voters to support all ten propositions of the bond program, which will not require a property tax rate increase. This bond will fund crucial city programs, including but not limited to streets, parks, libraries, flood protection and repairs to performing arts facilities, that benefit all members of our community," said State Representative Rafael Anchia.
Determining the bond program was a long and comprehensive process that began in May 2016 when the

Dallas Black Dance Theatre's Director's Choice Taps Social Media Feedback in Work by New Artistic Director Bridget L. Moore Dallas, TX - Social media takes a role in the development of a world premiere by Dallas Black Dance Theatre's (DBDT) new Artistic Director Bridget L. Moore during the Director's Choice series. Other works in this series depict conquering emotional ghosts and enduring emotional storms. Presented by Texas Instruments, the Director's Choice series will be held Nov. 3, 2017 through Nov. 5, 2017 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, 2400 Flora Street, Dallas, TX. Moore is expanding the duet Uncharted Territory that received rave reviews last season, into the full company work Uncharted Territory: Body of Evidence. "I am using social media to gain cultural perspectives and will document how it informs my choreographic choices. I want to use social media because it is accessible and I think it is a great tool to share experiences," says Bridget L. Moore. Uncharted Territory has been selected as a recipient of a grant from the TACA Donna Wilhelm Family New Works Fund. Texas Instruments has supported Director's Choice as the presenting sponsor for almost a decade. "Dallas Black Dance Theatre makes world class performing arts
accessible to North Texas residents and visitors," said Andy Smith, director of corporate philanthropy at Texas Instruments. "TI is proud to support the innovative Director's Choice series each year." Choreographer Andy Noble describes his work Tower as an athletic, contemporary, rain dance, complete with 22 dancers on stage formulating a brewing storm. The musical backdrop is "Weather One" by Michael Gordon. Noble, the co-artistic director of NobleMotion Dance, is from Houston and survived Hurricane Harvey. Juel D. Lane both choreographed How to Kill a Ghost and wrote the lyrics to original music by Quentin EQ Johnson. The work tackles the haunting effects of holding onto something that no longer exists. The dance is a mixture of modern, African, Hip Hop and Jazz styles set to R&B and New Age music. In Monophonic, Rebecca Troyak creates a duet reflecting the relationship between dance partners. The contemporary dance is a high cardio work set to Opera music. Troyak is a Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts alum. The Harambee Festival grew out of the concern members of the community had, which was to provide better protection for our children during Halloween. The word ‘harambee’ is from the Swahili language and it means “pull together,” and that is exactly what several members of the “African Bandits,” a well known motorcycle club did in 1974. The event was their alternative to Halloween.
The Harambee Festival Turns 43 on October 28 By Arielle Johnson
Over the years unfortunately, there has been an increase in the number of horrific crimes committed during Halloween towards children. In 1974, a father in Deer Park, Texas poisoned his son with a pixy stick candy he mixed with cyanide, in an attempt to collect on a $1 million dollar insurance policy. Ronald Clark O’Bryan also handed these poisonous pixy sticks to his daughter and other kids from his neighborhood, with the intention of pinning their murders on one of his neighbors.
This year the Harambee Festival organizers have been working on a strategy to restore the popularity of the event. And although the idea of moving the festival to another venue, which has a built in network of partnerships that would automatically increase the likelihood of more people showing up, was broached, it was dismissed. We have to remember, Martin Luther King stood for many of the ideals we seek to convey through the organization of our event. Therefore why would we consider moving the event to another venue?
His son however, was the only child who ate the candy, and as a result died. This gruesome murder happened on Halloween in our area, but there were killings happening all across the country, as well as rapes, mutilations and poisonings.
Last year, we had a balloon release and we have planned the same for this year, but we will also have attendees lock arms and hands with each other to create the “Hands Across MLK” human chain. Now more than ever we need Unity within our community.
adults and children can be whatever their hearts desire, as they live out their fantasies for one night, traveling from house to house filling their goodie bags with all sorts of treats.
We hope you will come and join us this year at the Harambee Festival at the MLK Center located at 2922 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, October 28th from 11-5 pm. As always there will be lots of giveaways, great entertainment and plenty of candy. Let’s make the 43rd Annual Harambee Festival a wonderful family day.
The very first Harambee festival was a full day event with an attendance of approximately 500 people, however each year, more and more people began to flock to the MLK center in South Dallas until one year, the event organizers looked up, and they found themselves surrounded by more than 25,000 people. Not only did word of mouth help with increasing awareness about the event, but the City of Dallas came on board as a sponsor. With the City’s sponsorship, we were able to pull out all the stops - 3 brightly lit stages with state of the art sound and plenty of giveaways. Also, there were plenty of city volunteers and organizations such as Delta Sigma Theta and the Commission to Clean Up Dallas that came on board to make sure there were enough people to satisfy the needs of the crowd. Unfortunately, the City of Dallas stopped sponsoring the Harambee Festival approximately 10 years due to budget cuts. As a result of the cuts, the festival noticed a sharp decline in attendance.
It’s that time of the year again when
of our most prominent community leaders, to shake hands and apologize to each other in front of the crowd. Too much is happening in our country at this time for us to delay the process of coming together. And if our leaders are at odds with each other, they indirectly play a part in dividing us, when their constituents start to take sides.
There is no time for divisiveness. We are even asking two
