BIKTARVY is a complete, 1-pill, once-a-day prescription medicine used to treat HIV-1 in adults and children who weigh at least 55 pounds. It can either be used in people who have never taken HIV-1 medicines before, or people who are replacing their current HIV-1 medicines and whose healthcare provider determines they meet certain requirements.
BIKTARVY does not cure HIV-1 or AIDS. HIV-1 is the virus that causes AIDS.

manufacturer Cadillac is powering back into the car scene with the Celestiq, a brand-new model that is the world’s first ultra-luxury allelectric sedan. Production began in December 2023, with the first deliveries beginning in January 2024.
Consumers looking to head to a Cadillac dealership to purchase the new car are out of luck, though. Each Celestiq is commissioned and custom-designed with different materials, textures, and colors. It’s meant to be a work of art as each car is as unique as the person who purchases it, and no two Celestiqs will be alike.

Technology is one of the top priorities for Celestiq designers. That starts at the top of the car with an adjustable panoramic sunroof with fixed smart glass, allowing every passenger to adjust the amount of sunlight to peek through during the ride. The sunroof is also covered in a film that helps reduce the road noise EV aficionados have begrudgingly come to accept.
Inside the Celestiq, drivers will get to enjoy equally techy enhancements. ClimateSense technology gives each passenger their own temperature control with up to four separate microclimates in the car all at once. The Cadillac is also raising the bar with five advanced HD-interactive screens installed in the Celestiq, the most the manufacturer has ever put in one car.
After a pandemic global semiconductor shortage, Cadillac stopped adding SuperCruise technology to cars, but have brought it back with a boost for the Celestiq. You can not only drive without touching the steering wheel or the pedals, but you can also now change lanes without assistance by using Automatic Lane Change. With this tech, the car decides when it would be optimal to change lanes and do so by turning on the blinker and heading over into the new lane.
The build of the car is groundbreaking, too. Cadillac removed a coiled spring suspension in favor of Celestiq’s air suspension system, which makes the ride softer. It’s also paired with Magnetic Ride Control, a suspension technology with superfast reaction time. Cadillac also introduced Active Roll Control where the front and back of the chassis have stabilizer bars to minimize rolling force during turns.
Another stellar feature is the active rear spoiler which activates at lower speeds to keep the car more aerodynamic. When the speed goes up, the spoiler rises to make sure the car stays balanced.
The Celestiq makes it easy to charge your EV vehicle too. With 10 minutes at a public DC fast charging station, drivers will get 78 miles of range and the Ultium Charge 360 technology allows access to 110,000 publicly available charging points throughout North America, all easily found on the myCadillac Mobile app.
The Celestiq will come at a cost, with the base model starting at $340,000. But with all the customization and new technology — and a reduced environmental footprint — it’s definitely worth it. Just be prepared to keep your ride garaged in the winter as the 23-inch Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires, though designed specifically for Cadillac, work only in the summer.

At the beginning of January, technology companies like Google, Amazon, Samsung, and Mercedes-Benz showcased their upcoming products with live demos and keynote speeches at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The CES convention is a place for companies to announce innovative technology that could benefit consumer’s everyday life. Convention-goers explored the latest gadgets in blockchain, gaming, smart home, and virtual reality technology. This year’s innovations included a stunning transparent OLED television from LG and Hyundai Mobis’ transformative concept car that can drive sideways. However, not all of these products are affordable, practical, or even readily available. These are the most useful gadgets from CES 2024 that you and other tech junkies can get your hands on sometime this year.
Garmin announced a variation of its HRM-Fit heart rate monitor designed specifically for seamless attachment to sports bras. Most heart rate chest straps need to be placed underneath the elastic band of women’s sports bras causing an uncomfortable tightness and making it difficult to remove. The new HRM-Fit is a black band with three clips that attach directly to the sports bra’s elastic band and can be easily removed. Once in place, the gadget monitors heart rate and shares the data with the Garmin Connect app and compatible devices in real time. It can also track steps, calories burned, and more. The HRM-Fit is not just for runners. It can track heart rate and other metrics for cycling, HIIT, and strength training. The device has up to 1-year of battery life and costs $149.99. It is available on Garmin’s website and ships in 1-3 business days.

RABBIT R1: COMING MARCH 2024
Rabbit Inc., an artificial intelligence startup based in Los Angeles, announced its first consumer product called Rabbit R1. The Rabbit R1 is an orange, handheld square with a touch screen, 360-degree camera, push-to-talk button, analog scroll wheel, microphone, and speaker. The device is meant to transform the way we interact with apps like Uber and Spotify. The operating system utilizes AI to understand natural language and execute actions within the apps for you. The operating system is called LAM which stands for large action model. This stands in contrast to LLMs, large language models, like ChatGPT or Gemini, that can help you research options for flights but cannot book one. Instead, Rabbit R1 was built to be your “companion.” Rabbit R1 can act as a personal assistant booking flights, playing music, and ordering Ubers. You can even use the built-in camera to scan items in your refrigerator and prompt it to generate a recipe with those ingredients. It is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capable. The Rabbit R1 is available for pre-order on the company’s website for $199.

WITHINGS BEAMO: EXPECTED SUMMER 2024
Withings BeamO is the first of its kind: an at-home health technology device smaller than a smartphone that can provide daily checkups. The sleek device is called a multiscope and combines a thermometer, stethoscope, and electrocardiogram and can measure blood oxygen level. The stethoscope and thermometer are on opposite ends of the rectangle of the device and the electrocardiogram and oximeter are on the side. It can detect abnormal heart rates and body temperature as well as atrial fibrillation. It can also record heart and lung sounds to help doctors evaluate patients for conditions like asthma. The device syncs with an app on your phone that stores data from each checkup which can be shared with your doctor. It can be used by up to 8 people within the same home and has an 8-month battery life. It will cost $249.95. It is currently awaiting CE marking and FDA clearance but the company hopes to launch the product sometime this summer.

We’ve all heard the idiomatic expression, “oppositesattract.” That phrase is a way to describe Kene the bushman from Mbiase, Nigeria and the cosmopolitan Ugo from Boston, Massachusetts, the duo behind MyFRESHBod. Despite being two opposite people, both men have something in common that they’re descendants of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria’s Imo State.
“In Nigeria, Igbo’s are known for being industrial and agricultural people. My grandfather had a farm before he passed on
and he would cultivate palm oil for hair oil and lotion oil for companies,” Kene told Bleu Magazine..

I’m submerged to my shoulders in a pebble-bottomed hot spring pool with a mineral formula replicating Iceland’s famous Blue Lagoon and feeling my stress melt away. I’m soaking in one of 11 new experience pools at Iron Mountain Hot Springs, which is home to 27 geothermal soaking pools in total.
In a gorgeous location overlooking the Colorado River, Iron Mountain is one of the main reasons to visit the small town of Glenwood Springs in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. It’s one of several hot spring attractions in town, such as Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, home to the world’s largest hot spring pool and the only one to have been designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service. It earned this prestigious title along with nearby Glenwood Caverns in December 2023
for possessing a nationally significant geological feature.
The WorldSprings area is a great choice for adults, as it requires you to be at least 21 years old to enter, and you’ll be able to purchase alcoholic beverages and snacks at the seasonal café. Each of the 11 pools are after various famous hot springs around the world, and the mineral content and temperature match those springs as well. Other pools include a bicarbonate-rich pool inspired by hot springs in Hokkaido, Japan, and an iron, magnesium, potassium, and calcium pool inspired by springs in Baile Tusnad, Romania.
The area also has a cold plunge and a waterfall freshwater pool. If you are traveling with kids, you can check out the legacy section at Iron Mountain, which has 16 different pools, a freshwater family pool, and a jetted spa.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS IS A SUBLIME ADVENTURE DESTINATION
There is so much to do in Glenwood Springs, a sublime adventure destination about an hour away from Aspen and twoand-a-half hours from Denver. While it’s been popular with locals forever, it is often overlooked by visitors who rather visit more famous destinations such as Aspen, Vail, and Breckenridge.
Glenwood is a year-round destination, but the winter and spring seasons are the best times to visit the hot springs, as temperatures are cold enough to comfortably sit in pools as hot as 108 degrees. In summer, you’ll want to visit the hot springs when temperatures start to cool following activities during the day.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is another top attraction in the area. The only mountaintop theme park in the U.S. is consistently ranked as one of the best amusement parks in the country. Guests take a scenic gondola ride to the top of Iron Mountain where they will find family-friendly attractions, thrill rides, cave tours, and dining options.
Glenwood Springs sits at one end of
the 12.5-mile-long Glenwood Canyon, which is home to one of Colorado’s most famous natural attractions, Hanging Lake. Another National Natural Landmark, the lake is an otherworldly,jade-hued affair perched on a cliffside surrounded by wispy waterfalls. It’s accessible by a rigorous 1.2-mile trail and is one of the state’s most popular hikes.
The area is so popular that a permit system was put in place to limit visitors and protect the fragile ecosystem surrounding the lake. Permits cost $12 per hiker and include self-parking at the trailhead. The trail to the lake is steep and rocky, but hikers will be rewarded by the magical surroundings at the top.
In summer, Glenwood Springs is also a popular jump-off point for whitewater rafting trips. The Colorado River and Roaring Fork Rivers are home to various sets of rapids ranging from mild class IIs to more wild class III-IV waves. Many companies around town offer half and full-day trips.

WHERE TO SLEEP AND EAT IN GLENWOOD SPRINGS
The grandiose Hotel Colorado opened in 1893 and has a historic vibe. Guests will be treated by the old-fashioned ambiance and supposedly haunted history. Inside a U-shape two-toned, turreted brick building with a crimson roof isthe resort that has a restaurant with an al fresco garden area and bar. The rooms are dated, but with their soaring ceilings and ultra-wide, carpeted hallways leading to them, they also feel right. Staying in them feels a bit like traveling back in time, to the hotel’s heydey in the Gilded Age heyday. The location is excellent, and the hotel is within walking distance from downtown.
Keeping with the bygone era ambiance, Riviera Supper Club & Piano
Bar is a great spot for anyone to have dinner. It has a sophisticated vibe, a fine dining menu filled with American classics that can be enjoyed alongside live piano music.
The Pullman is another top Glenwood restaurant for contemporary American fare. It serves up creative small plates and hearty entrees crafted from locally sourced ingredients. The interior design is industrial yet warm.
For a less expensive meal, people can head to Slope & Hatch, which is a laid-back eatery cooking up classic comfort food and serving craft beer. The Lost Cajun is another place that offers a different menu, including gumbo, jambalaya, and other Louisiana classics.

ACCORDING TO THE Travel Market Report, 2024 is expected to set a new record in a surge of solo travelers, with 42 percent of young Americans reporting they’ll embark on a trip alone. As a solo traveler, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to visit more than 30 countries and these experiences have instilled a sense of empowerment, fulfillment, and contributed to my overall wellness and confidence.
By my own definition, an ideal solo travel destination should boast accessible streets, convenient transportation, diverse dining options, and a variety of activities to cater to every type of traveler. It should also offer opportunities to blend both budget and luxury experiences, allowing you to make the most out of your solo travels.
Here are some must-visit solo travel destinations suitable for every budget and traveler, whether you're a newcomer or an experienced explorer:
TORONTO, CANADA FOR THE FESTIVAL ENTHUSIAST TRAVELER
WHEN TO GO: JUNE TO MID-SEPTEMBER
As a solo traveler, safety is a prime concern – I like to be able to walk back to my hotel from a local bar at midnight without constantly looking over my shoulder. Toronto was ranked sixth on the World Population Review List of the safest cities globally in 2024. As a resident here for over 36 years, I’ve generally felt safe walking alone or riding the subway at night. Moreover, with 250 ethnicities and 170 languages, Toronto’s diversity makes it unique to experience various cultures in neighborhoods such as Little Italy, Chinatown, Koreatown, Cabbagetown, and more.
An annual tradition of mine is to head to the Canadian National Exhibition (known as “The Ex”). Canada's biggest annual end-of-summer fair, it starts in August and lasts through Labor Day weekend. I like going in the evenings when it’s much cooler and a huge plus is tickets are available at a discounted rate)!
Not to be missed is Caribana, North America’s largest Caribbean festival held at the Exhibition Place, which fills a four-day weekend in early August with the sounds of calypso, steel pans, soca, and reggae. The parade is free, but you can purchase weekend passes to attend events.
Toronto’s Indigenous population is the largest in Ontario
and the fourth largest in Canada. Its 70,000 Indigenous residents add to the city’s cultural fabric through annual events like the ImagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, which highlights Indigenous filmmakers and media artists from Canada and around the world.
Additionally, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is a yearly gathering commemorating and showcasing the talents of emerging and established filmmakers and artists of all diverse backgrounds. The festival's global prominence draws in international visitors, contributing to Toronto's status as a vibrant and cosmopolitan cultural destination.
WHERE TO STAY
For luxury, consider the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto located near main attractions like the CN Tower, the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, City Hall, and Eaton Centre.. The Lobby is a highlight, where I love being greeted with live music, a cozy marble fireplace, and inviting couches perfect for light reading and enjoying a light snack. After a long day of exploring the city, I like to spoil myself at the Miraj Hammam Spa on the fifth floor, with their signature custom glow facial.
An affordable option, the Canopy by Hilton Toronto in the Yorkville neighborhood is perfect for digital nomads thanks to a large foyer area, a rooftop patio, free WiFi, and break-out rooms. I like to work from my laptop at Dia Restaurant on the second floor, taking advantage of numerous outlets while savoring a meal by the fireplace.

GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS FOR THE FOODIE TRAVELER WHEN TO GO: MARCH TO JUNE AND DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY
Most people think of families and honeymooners when they think of the Cayman Islands, but as a veteran solo traveler, I can't think of a better place to make friendly acquaintances aligning perfectly with the local tradition of "Caymankindness." Dubbed the "Culinary Capital of the Caribbean," Grand Cayman packs an extraordinary range of dining diversity into a small, accessible, and gorgeous island.
More than 67,000 people live in the Caymans, and along with a rich Caymanian culture, you'll find Jamaican, Filipino, South American, Canadian, Australian, and British communities and influences. Some must-try dishes include conch fritters, a blend of African, European, and Caribbean flavors, Cayman-style beef that’s slow-cooked, spicy beef with Jamaican influence, and coconut rundown, which is a traditional stew comprising mackerel with thyme, tomatoes, pumpkin, and coconut milk.
Visit in January to catch the Cayman Cookout—an exciting four-day culinary extravaganza featuring famous chefs, wine experts, and cocktail masters. I found plenty of extraordinary experiences, from mastering Michelin-worthy jerk chicken to
fine-tuning my wine-tasting skills with legendary sommeliers. Hosted by the celebrated Chef Eric Ripert at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, celebrity chefs like José Andrés and Daniel Boulud are in attendance at this event.
At George Town's Farmer's Market, sample and buy fresh produce, artisan goods, and arts and crafts. While snorkeling at Starfish Point and Rum Point on the island's idyllic East End, expect to see starfish, lionfish, lobsters, and turtles up close. Remember to protect yourself and the coral; opt for a rash guard instead of sunscreen when in the water. The famous Seven Mile Beach is lively with sunbathers and swimmers. My highlight was swimming with stingrays at Stingray City in the shallows of Grand Sound.

At the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, I stayed in a one-bedroom suite with a kitchenette, allowing me to enjoy homemade meals instead of always dining out. Moreover, staying on the ground floor had a bonus: direct access to the stunning Seven Mile Beach from the patio of my room.
For a budget stay within walking distance of Seven Mile Beach, consider Sunshine Suites Resort, tucked between the beachfront Westin Grand Cayman and the North Sound Golf Club. Rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable, and have welcoming staff. The in-house restaurant Sunshine Grill is reasonably priced for Grand Cayman and the food is delicious.

FLORENCE, ITALY FOR THE ART-LOVING TRAVELER WHEN TO GO: NOVEMBER TO MARCH
As a traveler passionate about art history, my solo journey to Florence, Italy, was like exploring an outdoor museum. Florence is the heart of the Italian Renaissance, boasting art and architecture by legendary artists like Giotto, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Raphael, and Caravaggio.
A city designed to be enjoyed on foot or by bike, I find it easy to get around by e-bike or scooter from RideMovi. Start at the Galleria degli Uffizi, an iconic art museum nestled within a majestic 16th-century palazzo. The Uffizi's exhibits change periodically, but the timeless allure of Botticelli's Birth of Venus and da Vinci's Annunciation is always on display. To make the most of your time at the Uffizi, secure skip-the-line tickets in advance, which can cost approximately $55 USD (including a guided tour). You can explore museums for free on the first Sunday of each month! Just a few steps away lies the enchanting Piazza della Signoria, where an open-air sculpture park showcases striking replicas of Michelangelo's David and other iconic statues that must be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
From there, move on to the Duomo where you can book an excursion to walk up the 463 steps to the grand Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore to the pinnacle of its dome for aweinspiring city views. It is a steep climb up, so be prepared to work up a sweat, but the views are worth it! Adjacent to the
Duomo, the Baptistery speaks to the grandeur of Renaissance Florence with its golden mosaics and is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the rich artistic heritage of Piazza del Duomo – and, by extension, the very heart of Florence's history.
If climbing isn't your thing, head to Piazzale Michelangelo by bus number 12 (from Boboli Gardens) or 13 (from Ponte Niccolò) or the red double-decker tour bus from the center. It is free to view the jaw-dropping panoramic views of the city and the outdoor bronze copy of Michelangelo's sculptures (the original is displayed at the Accademia Gallery museum). Head there early, and don't forget to take your selfie stick and tripod with you! You can also contact Destination Florence, the local tourism board, for personalized assistance in crafting the ideal itinerary for your solo travel endeavors as well.

The Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy is in the heart of the city near major landmarks like The Duomo and Ponte Vecchio and is a short distance to the Uffizi. Castello Banfi Wine Resort in Montalcino is an exceptional countryside retreat. I was especially drawn to its strong dedication to sustainability through its organic vineyard practices.
For a mid-range stay, consider The 25hours Hotel Firenze in the center, a 10-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella train station and a short walk to the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. Rooms are themed Heaven or Hell, feature large lounges and common areas, and come with free minibar, WiFi, and Bluetooth speakers.

I was born in Seoul and have witnessed how the rise of K-pop and addictive Netflix K-dramas have catapulted our pop culture onto the global stage. South Korea is a global leader in skincare (K-beauty) and fashion trends, making Seoul an excellent destination for "trendy" solo travel, offering a unique blend of modernity and cultural experiences.
To fully appreciate modern Korean culture, it helps to know a bit about where it came from. I suggest starting at the highest point of Mount Namsan, where the iconic N Seoul Tower offers the city's best panoramic views. Make time to visit the traditional Korean homes at Bukchon Hanok Village, two miles north of the Tower, which contains more than 860 hanoks. During the Joseon era (1392–1910), nobility and royalty lived here, and now anyone can spend the night in traditional hanok accommodations.
I always make time to pamper myself with skincare treatments in Seoul, especially to achieve the "glass skin" look that is trending online.
If you want to buy some skincare products, head to Myeongdong district (take the subway to Euljiro 1-ga Station, exits 5–7) or Myeongdong Station (exits 5–8), known for a remarkable range of cosmetics brands like InnisFree and Etude House. The Olive Young chain (the Sephora of Korea)
is my favorite, and their massive two-story Myeongdong flagship store is the place to find top affordable Korean products that you might have seen in viral TikTok videos such as Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Serum, COSRX snail Mucin Power Essence and Mediheal toner pads and more. For more retail therapy, I like to head to Dongdaemun where the wholesale markets and fashion malls are perfect for good deals on luxury accessories and apparel that I could never have bought back home. I was raised to appreciate Korean crafts and art, and Insadong specializes in beautiful traditional keepsakes. If you want to splurge, head to the upscale boutiques and high-end fashion stores such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton in Gangnam.

Ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong is a good choice for all-inclusive luxury, and its many dining options include a rooftop restaurant and bar. Hit the hot tub and sauna to relax after a day among the bright lights of Seoul. Patrick Breeding initially captivated the world as the frontman of the R&B sensation B5 alongside his brothers Dustin, Kelly, Bryan, and Carnell. Having left an indelible mark on the music scene in the mid-2000s, he is now poised to release his highly anticipated debut album, Me, Myself, and I.
Drawing from invaluable experiences collaborating with industry heavyweights, Breeding highlights that his forthcoming project has been a transformative journey. Further, he shares that his solo endeavor has challenged him to elevate his skillset as both a writer and producer and to delve deeper into his innermost — crafting an offering he considers his most personal to date. Recently, Bleu Mag had the privilege of sitting down with Breeding, where he dished on all things Me, Myself, and I.
“This album is big for me, a brand new experience. I would say, more personal because, I actually had to write and produce,” he began, reflecting on the early days of his career, where he’d arrive at the studio to
find an arsenal of song selections already laid out by super producers, awaiting his vocal prowess. “I got to sit and watch the likes Rodney Jerkins, Scott Storch, Poo Bear, Babyface — to see the different formulas and ways they would make grand records, whether it was with a certain type of program or the way they approach vocals; layering and stacks, you name it.”
Applying these learnings, Breeding unearthed a new talent for songwriting and producing, prompting him to expand on his abilities to determine whether he was "even capable of making a decent song." The result was his first-ever solo effort, "All Night," released at the height of the global pandemic in 2021.
“Once I made that one, I started gaining confidence. I played it for my older brother, Dustin, and he was like, ‘Yo, man, I think you actually got a knack for producing and writing. You should go for it,’” he shared. Jokingly adding that in true Virgo fashion, his devotion to perfection had prolonged the project's release.

Fortunately for fans, the wait is almost over, as he is confident for a springtime release. As for what listeners can expect, keep your ears wide open for a new sound — a mashup spanning genres. “We were kind of locked into… pushed in the direction of straight R&B,” said Breeding, referencing his time at former labels, including Motown Records. “With this project, it's myself, with my laptop in my studio. I was able to be free and go in any direction I wanted to go. So with this one, you're going to hear emotions and colors — the way I was feeling on that particular day, at that particular time.”
He continued, “I might've been feeling a pop record that I heard, or then you might hear an R&B-type record, you know? I was able to navigate in any direction that felt natural. Of course, I'm not going to have a country twang or anything like that.” Speaking of dream collaborators, the 33-year-old crooner shared that, while there are no features currently on the album, should the opportunity arise to work with SZA, it's a no-brainer.
“I do have some aspirations to include a few collaborations, but we'll see where that goes,” said Breeding, refraining from dropping names. “As far as people I would want to work with, there's definitely a few collaborations, but off the top, I think SZA is talented and gifted. We all hear how she lays her
melodies in her pocket so she would be one off the top.”
It goes without saying that there were many lessons learned along the way, but none as profound as "believing in yourself," shares Breeding. “When I first started, the process was totally different from working with a label. Like you go there, it's laid out, boom, boom, boom. With this one [the album] it’s like looking at yourself in the mirror. Every time you make a beat and you're like, ‘Okay, damn.’ You feel like it's dope.”
“Then the next morning is the real test., Is it [the song] actually dope? Am I still going to like it? And then you go deeper and say, ‘Okay, is that bass good, or is that bass dated?’ It goes all the way to writing, the melody, and your tone. Maybe do this line better,” he continued. “It becomes this endless, instant battle with yourself in the mirror. But at the same time, like you're building yourself up so strong. For the next song, and then the next song.” All in all, Breeding says to “trust the process.”
Also on the horizon, is the exciting prospect of new music from B5. “We're always working on stuff, and our fans are asking. We definitely need to give them like 100 percent, including shows and tours,” he shared. In the meantime, Me, Myself, and I is set to release in a matter of months. Will you be tuning in?

Hailing from a city that birthed several legends, Choppa's journey was heavily influenced by the rich musical tapestry of Memphis. The city's deep-rooted connection to the blues and soul provided the backdrop for Choppa's quest to create a sound that stood out from the typical Memphis rap scene. Collaborating with artists like Roddy Rich on the hit track "Walk Em Down," had Choppa showcase a different side of his artistry, blending his signature delivery with a melodic and smooth style that earned praise from Complex magazine and Billboard.
In the beginning stages of his career, the Memphis native drew
inspiration from the iconic voices of Tupac and Lil Wayne. Their influence laid the foundation for his lyrical flow and helped him shape a style that is uniquely his own. However, it was his groundbreaking track, "Shotta Flow,” that catapulted him into the limelight. While he was still in the 10th grade during this transformative moment of his life, Choppa vividly recalls the profound impact it had on his peers and the ignition it provided for his musical journey.
As his sonic journey unfolded, Choppa released "From Dark to Light," a mixtape that transcended mere beats and rhymes. Departing

from the conventional rap themes, the mixtape delved into positive and introspective narratives, revealing the artist's commitment to exploring diverse facets of his artistry while authentically grounding himself in personal growth.
Beyond the studio, the 21-year-old is a spiritual individual, attributing his success to the power of the Most High. His spirituality permeates every aspect of his life, from maintaining a vegan lifestyle to making life choices that align with his holistic beliefs. The birth of his first child marked a pivotal moment in his spiritual journey, inspiring
positive changes and an unwavering commitment to personal growth.
“My daughter helped me shift my view on spirituality,” he tells Bleu Magazine. “Once I knew I had a baby on the way, I just knew that I needed to change a lot. And in that process, I started to pray a lot about how I could change and what I could do. And everything started to fall in line after that.”
Aware of the profound impact his music has on mental health, Choppa has emerged as an advocate for healing. According to Choppa, he learned how impactful his music was once his fans began to express

how his music had saved their lives. This was an awakening moment for him and the moment when he realized the transformative power of his art.
Looking ahead, Choppa envisions a bright future for the rap and hip-hop industry, noting the emergence of new sounds and innovative music promotion. Grateful for his quick wit and freestyling skills, he attributes his lyrical sharpness to a divine gift and expresses gratitude for his ability to make impactful music.
Beyond the realm of music, Choppa is dedicated to making a positive impact on the world. He has created the NLE Health and Wellness brand, which focuses on mental health, physical health, and holistic healing which embodies his commitment to healing the world. The brand focuses on promoting herbs, tea, sea moss, oils, incense, and a variety of options to help detox or boost vitality and overall wellness. NLE Choppa finds it important to balance his mind, body and soul, whilst also navigating the complexities that can come with fame and being a musician.
As he navigates the duality of his public persona and personal life, his children, Chozen and Clover, serve as steadfast reminders of his true identity— Bryson LaShun Potts. In a world where the spotlight often blurs the lines between fame and reality, they offer solace and balance. He thanks his children for keeping him grounded and for always serving as a reminder of who he truly is.
Choppa also has valuable advice for emerging artists. As he tells Bleu Magazine, "Keep God first. Stay poised. Always stay calm. Stay patient. Stay disciplined. And have faith."

A SEASONED DESIGNER with a rich history of collaborations with renowned brands and celebrities, Marvin Williams has embarked on an exciting, new journey with the launch of Future Proof Atelier. From beginning as a graphic designer in California to working with iconic brands like Ed Hardy, Reebok, and Puma, Williams has accumulated a wealth of experience and expertise. Reflecting on his journey, Williams sits down with Bleu Mag, where he recalls pivotal moments in the industry combined with a trek to the Netherlands that shaped his understanding of the intersection between fashion, fitness, and entertainment.
However, it was the realization of the lack of representation and ownership within the industry that fueled his desire to create something of his own. As one of the few Black lead designers in multiple companies, he became acutely aware of the disparity between consumer demographics and brand leadership. This discrepancy served as a catalyst in the creation of Future Proof Atelier, where diversity, ownership, and empowerment are central themes.
“The main thing about working with all these industries for so long, it's the politics that really drove me to say, ‘I need out, and I need to create something of my own,’” he began. “Not only that. Being the only Black lead designer in four of the companies that I've been in showed me that there is a disposition. Because 40 percent of the buying market is Black, people of color, and yet all the endorsers were celebrities were Black.
“So the main driving force, I said, ‘Okay, Marvin, you have to get into something. What is your purpose?’ Because building for another company may not be your purpose. But building your own brand, where we have ownership, became my driving purpose,” he continued.
Speaking on the line’s overarching theme, Williams revealed how he observed the transformative power of physical activity on mental well-being, viewing exercise not just as a means of competition but as a tool for personal growth and creativity. This holistic approach to performance laid the foundation for Future Proof Atelier's mission to merge physical and mental resilience with style.
“I was looking at gamers, or I was looking at people - the sport of life - like your hustle. I work out not for a competitive aspect, but I work out for my mentality, because afterwards I'm a little better, I'm free, my mind is free, and I'm able to create,” he added.
“So this idea of Future Proof was taking performance, having ownership within our community, but making it more of a metaphysical aspect that you create your reality is our main tagline. So the idea is that I'm physically working on this, but the mental aspect of this is even greater because I'm getting more rewards from that.”
If there’s one thing you pull from Marvin's entrepreneurial journey, it’s his sage sentiments regarding the importance of drowning out external noise and trusting one's intuition when pursuing a vision. Despite facing challenges and

setbacks, Marvin's unwavering belief in his mission has propelled him forward, inspiring others to take the leap of faith to pursue their passions.
Touching on advice he’d give aspiring entrepreneurs on the fence, he said, “I would kind of learn to drown everything out, the noise because during the process of me deciding to be an entrepreneur, I had a lot of opinions, family, friends.”
He said, “I feel like that made the process even harder because I became uncertain about my own intuition.”
He continued, “So, learn to surround yourself with great people, first of all, the ones that you really can trust. It supports you in your decision. Secondly, it's just fucking jump. Like, the idea is that you have to try. And anything is not a failure. It's a lesson learned”
“I've stopped the business prior before,” said Williams, explaining how the occasional pivot is par for the course. “I
went back into corporate. But, I didn't stop, you know? It's the process that sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. But try, because the opportunity may not be available 10 years down the line, 20 years down the line. So, just take that first step and try to drown out all the noise, if you can.”

In a bold move, Chunkz decided to drop out of university that very same year, dedicating himself entirely to the world of content creation. His foray into mainstream media reached new heights when he starred as ‘Asznee’ in the music video for the wildly popular “Man’s Not Hot” by Big Shaq. Collaborations with renowned brands like Sky Sports, Google, and Foot Asylum soon followed, culminating in his co-hosting of the 2020 MOBO Awards alongside Maya Jama.
But Chunkz isn’t just about laughs and luxury; he’s a joker with a heart. In 2023, he teamed up with close friend and colleague, Yung Filly, to birth “The Chunkz and Filly Show,” a comedy podcast that seamlessly weaves star-studded lineups with heartfelt discussions on social issues. CURATE CONVERSATIONS AROUND HBCU CULTURE AND AFROFUTURISM

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have had a place in this country since the mid-1800s. Striving through struggle, the founders of these astute institutions gathered limited resources and built empires that birthed some of the world’s most significant people. From Martin Luther King of Morehouse College, Jesse Jackson of North Carolina A&T State University, Jacque Reid of Clark Atlanta University, and Kamala Harris of Howard University, each of these institutions and more have planted a seed in its students that has equipped them to grow into world changers much like the ones that have come before them. Now, one of those dedicated to this continued legacy shares his inspiration, and his name is Mike Muse.
In its second year of Real Talk Drives Real Change, Chevrolet takes change agents and influencers around the country to curate conversations about the amazing culture of HBCUs. A veteran participant of the tour, music executive Mike Muse sees and shares the vision behind the mission.
“What I like to do is to take topics that have an impact on the Black community and Black culture and unpack it, find the nuance and figure out ways that we can advance the conversation,” says Muse of his goal in his second year with Real Talk Drives Real Change. “But sometimes, when we look at advancing for change, we look at this very macro perspective, and, for me, sometimes micro is enough. I always say that people tend to get so caught up in saving the whale that they forget saving the goldfish ultimately has an impact on the entire ecosystem.”
Maintaining a specific poignance on straightforward topics is how Muse guides these conversations, ultimately guiding participants’ self-navigation through them for a clearer understanding of the work that needs to be done. As he explains to Bleu Magazine, one of those

topics he looks to address is “Black Future.” With an insatiable interest in technology, Muse —also a Google Tech Policy Fellow — has spent the last eight years focused on advancements like artificial intelligence and big data and how these affect communities of color and marginalized communities from a policy perspective concerning business and entrepreneurship.
“As we begin this conversation at the top of the year, generative AI — or ChatGPT — has become this big, dark, scary entity,” says Muse. “While there’s concern surrounding generative AI, and we should have guardrails in place to make sure things are protected, AI can be a tool for good.”
Muse also wants to challenge the masses to open their minds and discover how AI can be a tool for Black people in the future. “How do we ensure that AI facial recognition isn’t used in the policing and the police force while having that nuanced conversation on how facial recognition can be helpful
in finding missing women of indigenous communities and tribes,” says Muse.
Additionally, Muse wants to focus on the underfunding of Black-founded companies to establish themselves as powerhouses in the business world.
“That impacts growth,” he says. “If you could use AI to supplement where you don’t have the capital to grow — that is, hiring consultants and the like — these different generative AI tools can be used in place of a consultant as a guide. The same can be done for strategic marketing and targeting. These are the ways that this topic came to the forefront and how we need to be looking at it to advance the conversation.”
The Real Talk Drives Real Change Tour Powered by Chevrolet visited Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD), Virginia State University (Fredericksburg, VA), Paul Quinn College (Dallas, TX), and North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC) in the
third quarter of 2023. While the partnerships are with these schools, Muse stresses that this work and these conversations are for Black collegiates as a whole.
“I want the students to know that these conversations are approached in an intellectually sound and intellectually curious way, but still fun, exciting, engaging, and challenging,” he says. “I also don’t want it to be limited to a belief in what they may not know, but they’re already aware of these topics and ready to advance the conversation.”

THE STAR GIRL’S JOURNEY TO STARDOM

STARDOM IS VERY near for Journey Montana at such a young age and with accolades spanning from acting, creative directing, and music. Last year I had the pleasure of sitting down and speaking with Journey about various topics as I got to know the young artist. During the interview we had a chance to touch on her upbringing in New York, young adulthood, and aspirations as an artist. As she swiftly progresses through her career, I learned the impact she has and wants to leave on her fans has grown into that of a young mogul.
I posed the question, what are some struggles young women face today? Her response was well thought out. She stated finding love within yourself is the biggest achievement you can give. A lot of women face a lot of daily obstacles from work, personal, and social life. She wants women to embrace their journey and understand that there’s plenty of women tackling these challenges and to be patient with yourself.
We tackled the topic of what advice she would give to women her age and younger, and she emphasized on being unapologetic with who you are. Speaking on her own obstacles growing up, dating, heart breaks, partying, and
finding the steady balance of work and life can be challenging. It’s the beauty of the journey she emphasized that makes you versus breaking you. Her NYC upbringing with the gritty and on-the-go lifestyle made her push to strive for more.
Journey just released her music video “Rivals” of her newly released EP “Star- Girl”. When I asked her to explain the creative process, she replied, “I wanted to bring out the nittygritty streets of New York, but show even a princess can rise through anything.” The EP is a blend of pop and emotions, and tells a story of young women coming into oneselves. The EP is available on all streaming platforms.
We end the interview with where she sees herself in the next 5 years and the impact she wants to leave on her fans and career. The ambitious Star-Girl stated she wants to be a EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winner and wants fans to understand she relates to everyday issues and to embrace their unapologetic side. As her career is blossoming she wants to grow and evolve with her talents in music and acting within the entertainment industry. This young talent has made a household name for herself and has a prosperous future ahead.

NEW YORK’S NEW RISING ARTIST

NEW YORK-BASED songwriter, producer, and artist Capella Grey has quickly made his mark in the industry despite only being in the game for a few years. Initially working behind the scenes, writing and producing for established artists, Capella seized the opportunity to enter the spotlight as an artist himself:
“I just know that I was writing and producing before, and then I decided to take a chance on myself.”
His 2021 song “Gyalis” became an instant hit. It was named “Song of the Summer” and debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard R&B/ Hip-Hop charts. In a recent interview, Grey stated:
“So, the song, “Gyalis” was kind of just an experiment, just also f*ck out here type of timing. There's no hook, no bridge, no verse. It started because of an argument because I was with some legends in the game. And they were saying there's a certain structure to a song with a hook and a bridge and the verse and whatever like that, and if you don't follow these margins, then your song will not be a hit.”
Grey created the song to prove a point, which worked in his favor.
As an artist hailing from New York City, Capella Grey brings a fresh, distinct vibe that the city craves. With the local music scene primarily saturated by the drill movement, Capella aims to introduce a new sound to the streets of the Big Apple:
“The New York music scene always got a lot of energy… And I feel like we are in it's very drill-ish right now and no disrespect to drill. I feel like you'll be a fool to say anything bad about drill right now. I feel like New York needs more vibey wavy joint, if what I'm saying is I feel like everybody's making baddie repellant right now and we just we just need some that people, the shorties can vibe to, the Steppas can step to… just a vibe.”
Even though Capella Grey debuted in 2021, he is still managing to make noise on social media. He recently dropped a freestyle on “On The Radar.” “On The Radar” has featured freestyles from artists such as Drake, Lil Yachty, Skilla Baby, and Tee Grizzley.
Capella Grey maintains his momentum with every single release, building anticipation until the eventual drop of his debut album, Vibe Responsibly Volume 1. This project has been three years in the making, reflecting Capella's dedication to delivering high-quality work to his audience.
“I've been working on this one album for like now, it's like three years. I dragged it, its been mad long. I haven't dropped no debut project yet. So I feel like we're slowing it down making sure the quality is right, making sure that we could really brag about what we got and really be able to stand on and say now this is the best sh*t out with everything.” With putting out quality music, it gives fans something they can listen to for years to come as the current state of music lacks longevity. “Nobody has no songs that last, they put out a song and we forget about it by next year.”He continued on that fans can expect the album to have Carribean, R&B, and New York vibes.
In addition to music, Capella has plans to expand his career to fashion and film. He plans to release clothes this year, including t-shirts, vests, and more. When it comes to film and television, he wants to create a station similar to VH1 and BET, “That's like the overall that's like the dream I'm gonna have a 24-hour running channel that just got this everything we wanted out of MTV and VH1, BET, just for us by us.”
Capella Grey is a rising artist to be on the lookout for. Fans can anticipate new music, the Vibe Responsibly Vol. 1 album and tour, the “Life of a Gylis” short film, and numerous songs and collaborations.

FUTURE Is there a BLACK

It's safe to say that African Americans are by far the most maligned of the country’s citizens. Largely because of media accounts, they are widely viewed as lazy, irresponsible, thuggish, violent criminals who wear their pants sagged, play loud music filled with demeaning lyrics about “niggas,” “bitches” and “hoes,” and often pepper their speech with profanities. Granted, this stereotype contains a grain of truth as some in the nation's Black communities do fit the profile. But, as the late Haiti-born culture bearer Chief Yagbe Awolowo Onilu has reminded us: “Beware of half-truths; you might get ahold of the wrong half.”
Indeed, I’d venture to say that for every Black person who “fits the profile,” there are two who do not. Further, as some have suggested, the “halftruths” disseminated about Blacks just might be part of an orchestrated psyops campaign designed to shift attention away from the misdeeds of those who are guilty of perpetrating some of history’s most horrific crimes: The displacement and genocide of Native Americans, the centuries-long enslavement of Africans, the murderous attacks on Chinese immigrants during and after the Gold Rush in California and other Western states, the mass internment of U.S. citizens of Japanese descent, and, later, the dropping of atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
THE OTHER HALF OF THE SAGA
What we have to bear in mind here is that Blacks have been under assault physically and psychically from the moment they set foot on these shores – assaults that peaked during the Jim Crow period (18961954) and that have continued to this day. Frequent occurrences were the lynchings, which typically saw Blacks being hanged for being “uppity,” for “reckless eyeballing” White women, and for having been
accused, usually falsely, of rape. Afterward, as if torturing and hanging their victims wasn’t enough, participants in these “lynching bees” sometimes cut off body parts as souvenirs and took pictures that were made into postcards.
The period beginning in the late 1900s saw White mobs launch violent attacks on Black communities across the country: Washington, D.C., Kansas City, Kansas, Omaha, Nebraska, Longview, Texas, Knoxville, Tennessee, Wilmington, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, and Rosewood, Florida. Perhaps the most devastating of these attacks came in 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma the violence was driven by jealousy of the prosperity of the Black area called Greenwood (popularly known as the “Negro Wall Street”) and a false report that a Black male had assaulted a White female. The mob’s attack on Greenwood, from the ground and the air, resulted in the loss of countless Black lives and left the area devastated.
Since those days, many more African-American males and females have died – usually at the hands of the police. The list includes Amadou Diallo, shot 19 times by New York City police in 1999; Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old shot by self-appointed neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in 2012; Eric Garner, an unarmed African-American man who was choked to death in 2014 by New York police officers; Philando Castile, who was executed by a police officer while sitting in his car with his girlfriend and her daughter in a Saint Paul, Minnesota, suburb in 2016; and the highly publicized 2020 case of George Floyd, who died as a result of his neck being pinned under an officer’s knee for almost nine minutes despite his numerous pleas of “I can’t breathe.”
As Dr. Joy DeGruy points out in her 2017 book Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing, it is precisely because of the abuses that Blacks have been subjected to during slavery and during the later Jim Crow era

that some exhibit negative behaviors. Essentially, her thesis is that the traumas resulting from the psychic and physical assaults on previous generations of African Americans have been passed along genetically to their descendants. And this, she says, accounts for the low self-esteem, self-hatred, and penchant for violence. Oftentimes, this violence is inward-directed, as exemplified by the so-called “Black on Black Crime” that plagues many of the nation’s urban areas. At other times, it is outwardly directed, especially when a person feels disrespected. Respect is such a sensitive area that a person might feel disrespected even if no disrespect is intended. Black males, in particular, are hypersensitive about their manhood, and any perceived threats to the same can cause some to go into full-out attack mode.
In a real sense, the extreme form of servitude and subsequent degradation that Africans brought to the United States have been subjected to has resulted in their becoming an aberration. Here, a useful analogy is the monster created by Dr. Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s 1818 gothic horror novel Frankenstein. Dr. Frankenstein created the monster (who remained nameless throughout the book) from body parts stolen from various human corpses but soon came to hate his creation, whom he saw as filthy and hideous. Ultimately, because of being rejected and alienated, the monster becomes a murderer. Similarly, the African captives transported to the United States came from various ethnic groups, spoke different languages, and were lumped together in a dehumanized hodgepodge that eventually morphed into the despised creation called the “Negro.” Like Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, this African-turned captive-turned Negro adopted negative behaviors that threaten himself as well as others.
And From the Shadows They Came The widespread anti-Black sentiment that previously had been semi-concealed reemerged full-blown following Barack Obama’s election to the presidency on November 4, 2008. Some saw the event as ushering in a “post-racial America.” For others, however, the sight of a Black family in the White House was unbearable. It soon triggered a backlash that resulted in the rise of the Tea Party and other right-wing factions of the Republican Party, whose members launched a relentless campaign to delegitimize his presidency and to repeal Obamacare, his signature medical program. Although they failed in their attempt to repeal Obamacare, as well as in their effort to thwart the removal of Confederate monuments in many parts of the South, the right-wingers have succeeded in defanging or striking down certain long-standing legal protections for Blacks and other minorities.
Another right-wing success is in their war on “Wokeness.” As used by African Americans, the phrase “Stay woke!” is an exhortation to remain vigilant in the face of the daily microaggressions and other manifestations of systematic racism. However, in an instance of blatant semantic hijacking, right-wing Republicans, led by Florida Governor
Ron DeSantis, co-opted the phrase, twisted its actual meaning, and incorporated it into SB 266, which, on July 1, 2023, became a law that forbids the teaching of anything related to systematic racism in the state’s classrooms. Since that time, some 18 other states have passed laws that function as educational “gag orders,” effectively stifling discussion of race-related history. We saw something similar take place in Namibia (formerly known as German South West Africa) in the early 1900s; in Nazi-era Germany; during the early 1900s in Turkey; and in Rwanda in 1994. In those places, authorities first flipped the narratives about their undesirable populations, and then they set about systematically exterminating them.
The takeaway: If you’re Black, you’d better stay woke, and stay prepared, because the future appears bleak in the United States. Even now, while some of you are deep in blissful, oblivious slumber, certain of those on the other side of the fence are gearing up for the time when the stuff hits the proverbial fan. One way to avoid what appears to be a coming Armageddon might be to decamp for safer parts. That’s what happened in the mid-1800s, when tens of thousands of Blacks emigrated to Liberia, Haiti, and Canada. During that same period, groups of Black Seminoles and their ethnic Seminole allies left the United States – some departing from Florida for Andros, in The Bahamas; others striking out from Texas for the northern Mexican state of Coahuila.
Today the descendants of those Black Seminoles who left the U.S. live mainly in two communities: Nacimiento de los Negros Mascogos and nearby Morelos. Although they face certain material challenges – among them few jobs, and inadequate educational facilities – they are well-integrated into Mexican society and have no regrets about their ancestors having left the U.S. Here’s Corina Torralba Harrington, founder of La Casa de La Cultura: “We enjoy harmonious relations with members of the larger society, but the most important thing about life here is that, because we’re all related one way or another, our intragroup relations are great, and most here wouldn’t dream of living anywhere else. Of course, we have occasional problems, such as petty personal squabbles, but none of the violence such as in the United States. Our community is selfgoverning, so when problems arise, we try to deal with them ourselves rather than call on the Mexican authorities.” Which certainly is more than can be said about the state of Black life in the United States.
Even so, as was the case during previous exoduses, a majority of Blacks likely would not depart this land in the face of deteriorating sociopolitical conditions but would choose to take their chances and remain in place. However, for those who remain, a collective behavioral reset will be needed. That is, they’ll need to cease the negative behaviors – not so much to change how others see and relate to them but rather to change how they see and relate to themselves. As Dr. DeGruy has warned, failure to do so will result in their demise.

KENYON DIXON IS a Grammy-nominated independent R&B artist who found a way to make his dreams come true. His soulful sound has allowed him to work alongside music icons and create a powerful lane of his own. With his latest album, The R&B You Love, Dixon is providing clear evidence of his talent, passion, and respect for the beloved genre. Dixon’s journey wasn’t an overnight success story, as his path to this moment took years of professional and personal growth and hard work that barely got recognition.
Dixon grew up in the church, where he realized music’s power and had a huge level of respect for it, even in his youth. However, what set him apart from so many others is his connecting love of writing.
“My skill for writing has always been there –even from an educational viewpoint,” he said.“I was in advanced writing classes and often entered into oratorical competitions. Actually, when I graduated from high school, my initial plan was to become an English professor. It just so happens I’ve been able to co-create.”

“I grew up on quality,” says Dixon. “I’m the youngest of seven, and both my parents are musicians and in church. So there was already an expectation to be high-level. When I was able to listen to R&B, it was the 2000s. My understanding and appreciation for music were always important; I just never let it go. Plus, growing up, I couldn’t listen to R&B, so when I could start listening to that’s the R&B I would listen to.”

Dixon combined those skills and he soon found himself serving as a background singer with artists such as Kelly Rowland, Nick Jonas, Chris Stapelton, Kirk Franklin, Justin Timberlake — whose album he’s working on — and more.
“The amazing thing is I got to work with people I’m a fan of,” he said. “It’s no different than a paid internship. I’m looking at them and getting paid to get free game. I’d pay attention to their stage presence, how they interact with fans, and everything. Collectively, they’ve all made me comfortable for where I am now.”

“I already had a high level of respect for him because of what he did for the game,” Dixon said. “He was like, ‘Whatever you need, I got you.’ So I sent him the song and he sent it back 24 hours later. I wanted to make the song feel like something from that era. So, I told him to feel free to change the second verse, but he kept it. That was the best part for me. For someone like that to approve of it, felt great. He’s an amazing guy, a gem in this industry.”
It’s no secret that Dixon takes the artistry of singing and performance seriously. In 2022, Bad Boy Records founder Diddy stated that R&B is dead during an Instagram Live session with Timbaland, and with how much he loves the genre, Dixon knew something was up because the business mogul isn’t a major figure in that respective space.

“I knew immediately it was just promo,” he says. “Because that’s a weird statement to make from someone who was not currently in that space. He’s made incredible music, but speaking as a current artist, I think we all felt a way about the statement. It felt invalidating – it was conflicting.”
Dixon also reflected on the path it takes in being an independent R&B artist.. The journey can be full of highs, but the lows are something that isn’t really discussed among people.
“As an independent artist, there’s a lot of stuff that you feel like you should have access to, but you have to work ten times harder,” Dixon says. “Sometimes that can be very discouraging. I had to be okay with embracing the journey I chose. It was my decision to do this independently. Plus, I make the kind of music that’s not necessarily popular among this culture of listeners, they’re starting to get back, but I make more classic R&B. Many would consider it a lost art form in mainstream music.”
He continues, “There’s different levels of being independent. Some artists partner with labels, but I’m legit an independent artist. Like, I pay for everything out of pocket. I upload my own music and check my own lyrics – I’m not submitting to a label to do that. It’s comforting, though, because this is what I’ve always done, but to be able to do it at this level and get finally rewarded for it feels really great.”
The two-time Grammy nominee is excited for listeners to continue enjoying and discovering the new project. As he explains, “This is quality R&B for real people who want to hear it, not talk about music that they don’t like. This is my offering to the conversation. We can get online and chat about how terrible the music is that labels are promoting to us, or we can highlight the artists who are actually creating it. This is for the people who just want to hear classic R&B.”

J. Ryan was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and got his first peek into the music industry from his mother. He was introduced to the entertainment industry when he was a baby and whilemusic became a true passion, acting came naturally to him and presented him with more opportunities. J. He also worked with celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Rick Schrimer, and others in talent relations, management, and personal branding. He’s most known for his friendships with Karreuche Tran, Teyana Taylor, Angela and Vanessa Simmons, Rob Kardashian, and more. BREAKING FREE: How Wendell Santiago Transformed LOSS Into LUXURY

In today's time, there’s a desire to “chase the bag” and live a luxurious life. But if there’s one thing the pandemic taught us, it’s that community matters. There’s nothing wrong with desiring a tribe to walk life’s journey with you, and creative entrepreneur Wendell Santiago used this thought process to fuel Linda & Lilo, a jewelry company powered by purpose. In an exclusive conversation with Bleu Magazine, the gogetter walked us through the unique way the business was birthed, his interactive workshops, and attending GLAAD’s Black Queer Creative Summit.
Before starting Linda & Lilo, Santiago worked in hospitality for 14 years. He was a manager but always had dreams of running his own business and knew at some point he would have his own. By the time Santiago moved from Charlotte to Atlanta, he had made the decision to start taking steps to make this a reality. He didn’t want to work for someone else – but he didn’t want to go in blind. As he put it, “it had to make sense.”
Unfortunately, before having the chance to start his entrepreneurial journey, Santiago faced a handful of emotional challenges. He was laid off from his job and endured a trying breakup. In fact, it was an impromptu getaway to Puerto Rico that set things in motion. For a change of pace, Santiago took this trip to learn more about his birth mother’s heritage. Little did he know this would fuel his decision to create the cosmic elegance that we know today as Linda & Lilo.

“While in Puerto Rico, I remember walking around when I smelled an incense that led me into a beading store,” he says. “There, I found these white faceted beads and a third eye heart pendant. The woman in the store asked if I wanted to turn them into a necklace and explained the process. It was just such a beautiful moment. It made me feel connected to my heritage.”
When he left the shop, his friend snapped a photo to commemorate the moment. In the future, he’d learn that this picture was coincidentally taken right in front of a Pandora store. Later this would affirm his desire to start his own jewelry company.
When Santiago arrived back in Atlanta with a broken spirit, his sister recommended he start wearing tourmaline, a powerful crystal. After noticing the crystal seemed to lift his mood, he shared it with friends and family and began incorporating crystals and gemstones into his own pieces for sale. By building the community and hearing stories of how the pieces were also helping others, the brand began to grow.
One helpful addition was the Black Queer Creative Summit. “At the top of September, I collaborated with GLAAD on their Black Queer Creative Summit, and I was able to do a workshop. It was the first time I traveled for my business. Being surrounded by 152 creatives, some entrepreneurs some not, was really affirming for me. It let me know I’m not alone, and I’m supported,” he says.
Today, Wendell has a two-tier business. He sells jewelry and hosts beading events, which he admits has been an emotionally fulfilling experience. “The event starts with intention setting and then moves to the practice of beading. It feels like arts and crafts. It’s really inner child healing work. People have started crying throughout the workshops.”
While all of this feels very rewarding, the journey hasn’t been an easy one. Entrepreneurship brings its own set of challenges and honestly, this isn’t a path he intended to start so soon. It was only a few months ago that Wendell had a dream with a familiar story.

He had lost his job, but it wasn’t a complete nightmare. He recalls feeling different throughout the sensation, and that he wasn’t defeated; his emotions were safe and secure. In the next morning, that dream became a reality, and he was forced to turn Linda & Lilo into a full-time career.
“The transition at first was heartbreaking because I really had to shed a version of myself that I thought was it,” he says. As a child, he was always told he could do whatever he wanted to. Now, life had forced him into that desire. “I felt like it was my ancestors telling me it’s time to transition. But now I’m very excited.”
Today, Wendell feels like he’s truly living his purpose. “It was through me connecting with that woman in Puerto Rico, saying yes and being open to a new connection, that made it special. She made that piece for me, and through her insight and conversation, we connected. I understand that. Since I was doing hospitality, my favorite thing about being a leader was connecting and teaching others, and that remains in Linda & Lilo.”
As an entrepreneur, he spends two hours a day in meditation and journaling. The balance is not easy, but it’s fulfilling. “The most challenging thing is making sure I’m being responsible with other people's emotions. You have a big duty to honor people as they are. It’s a challenge that requires me to work on myself. The best thing is the people I meet – our community. It’s small right now but I can see it growing, and I look forward to sharing this practice,” he says.

MODEL, ACTOR, AND advocate Richard Roundtree was one of the original multi-hyphenates. His professional career, which spanned six decades, impacted the lives of millions through iconic roles across entertainment and his outspoken support for male breast cancer awareness.
Born on July 9, 1942, in New Rochelle, N.Y., Roundtree attended Southern Illinois University on an athletic scholarship for his stellar football performance but later dropped out to pursue modeling. There, Roundtree modeled for the Ebony Fashion Fair and posed in print ads marketing for numerous brands, including Schlitz Malt Liquor and Johnson Products’ Duke hair products.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Roundtree eventually “heeded advice from Bill Cosby” and moved to New York City to pursue acting, landing at the Negro Ensemble Company, where he played numerous theatre roles.
Roundtree’s most iconic role came when he debuted as the titular “Shaft” in the 1971 film of the same name. He became one of the first Black action heroes to appear on the silver screen, predating other mainstream hits such as “Blade” in 1998 and “Beverly Hills Cop” in 1984. Considered a blaxploitation film due to its alleged perpetuation of black stereotypes, the film went on to make over $12 million at the box office on a budget of $500,000.
“I used to look at it as a double-edged sword,” Roundtree told WBUR-FM in 2019, “But I’ve had so many people from all over the country—and all over the world actually—come up and say what that film meant to them back in ’71. It’s heavy. And I’m appreciative of people speaking to me and sharing that with me.”
He went on to reprise his role in the four subsequent sequels. “Shaft” was responsible for sparking the creation of numerous other films that featured black leads. To many, Roundtree portrayal of the character allowed for Black men and children to have a new role model to look up to—one who was outwardly confident and headstrong, unlike previous subservient on-screen Black characters
According to the National Film Preservation Board, “Shaft” was preserved in the Library of Congress meant to “ensure the survival, conservation and increased public availability of America’s film heritage.”
In 1993, Roundtree was diagnosed with breast cancer in his right breast. After undergoing a double mastectomy, according to the National Urban League, he made it his mission to raise awareness about breast cancer in men, hoping to rid stigmas surrounding the topic. In his older years, he spoke with advocacy groups and other health organizations.
He told ABC News in 2009, “Not talking about my cancer was really tough, and now that I talk about it all the time, it’s really become a backhanded blessing.” He went on to say that a flight attendant’s husband received treatment only after seeing an article featuring Roundtree.
Throughout his career, Roundtree also appeared in David Fincher’s critically acclaimed mystery film “Seven” and the period drama film “Once Upon a Time… When We Were Colored.”
Roundtree’s most recent performance appeared in the comedy “Moving On” as the character, Ralph. According to Deadline, the upcoming film, “Thelma,” the directorial debut of Josh Margolin, will feature Roundtree’s final onscreen performance. The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He died of pancreatic cancer while at his Los Angeles home on Oct. 24, 2023 at the age of81. Roundtree is survived by his three daughters, Kelli, Nicole, and Taylor; and his sons, John James and Morgan.
