Vibrant. Authentic. Emotional. For us department store design means: spatial experiences.
Founded in 1989 blocher partners stands for connecting experiences to make space happen – impressive but responsible architecture, unique and timeless but always customer-centered interior designs. Inspired by rich cultural diversity transdisciplinary teams of architects, interior and product designers, sociologists and communication experts create spaces that encourage interactions.
Since its foundation department store designs have always been part of blocher partner’s projects. Our concepts embody a recognizable aesthetic and an extraordinary attention to detail that delivers dynamic store designs of the highest standard. Our pared down aesthetic focuses on timeless and sustainable concepts where quality and construction speak for themselves. The look is extravagant while soft and elegant at the same time. Playful mixes of contrasts and carefully curated accessories never lose their ease combined with high-grade materials and purist colour concepts. Without robbing them of the scope to appear to their full effect, our shop designs reflect the quality and individuality of a brands collection.
For us store design means: connecting people and brands, creating holistic concepts of retail experience. Carrying a feeling of sophistication, spontaneity and sensuality our elegant, unique store design continues down to the smallest detail. We believe in redefining experience with every new project, so that the design always reflects the brand’s individuality. We integrate the origin of a brand, develop it strategically or change its appearance completely – individually. Our design thinking is visionary, ensuring a brand’s evolution that covers all communication channels. We create spaces for individual encounters and multifaceted experiences; we stage a storytelling narrative that invites clients to take a journey with us and brings a brand’s spirit to life. Our design mission: Creating retail space that deeply incorporates a brand’s DNA into the store experience to induce an emotional connection with the client.

Right on the Jungfernstieg promenade Bucherer inhabits a prominent location in Hamburg. The interior design employs shades of blue, copper and wood to reflect the Hanseatic city’s maritime atmosphere and gives a local touch to the store concept, which was developed by blocher partners back in 2010 and has been gently refined over the ensuing years.
The visitors encounter a world of timeless elegance and style: Ceiling-high, copper-coloured panels frame the shop windows on the ground floor, giving the rooms a moorish character. The Bucherer trademark, interpreted as a figure-eight knot, is etched onto the surface of the panels, whose aesthetic structure beautifully reflects natural light.
The creativity, elegance and craftsmanship of the Swiss jewellery company Bucherer welcomes visitors the moment they enter into the luxurious Dusseldorf store: High ceilings and an open planned, welcoming sales floor create a sense of monumental expanse. Portals of white marble shorten the perspective, divide the space and create a cosy atmosphere. Central furnishings in terrazzo and exposed concrete, staging the unique pieces like works of art. Carefully curated home accessories accentuate the feeling of being at a luxury home – with a spectacular view from the lounge over the Königsallee boulevard, Dusseldorf’s most prominent district for luxury brands and joie de vivre.
The premium department with its designer bags, luxury jewellery and high-end accessories sections on the ground floor of Breuninger’s prominent flagship store in Stuttgart, provides a purist and elegant room atmosphere, a feeling of sophistication. The bright natural stone floor and walls in white convey a sense of great spaciousness. The paredback central furniture items made of natural stone and fair-faced concrete resemble monoliths placed in the expanse of this remarkable fashion temple. The hard-edged contrasts created by these essentially rough materials are muted by colour and material highlights here and there. The result successfully combines the luxury brands, high-end customer services and exclusive shopping experience, offering the Breuninger brand and philosophy the perfect stage for an unforgettable customer journey.
The growing trend in online shopping makes the importance of true in-store retail experience all the more tangible: The interior becomes a reflection of the brand DNA for an emotional and enduring customer journey. Precisely that has been created with the spectacular conversion of the Breuninger flagship store in Nuremberg. The look: exclusive and futurist. Alongside the Premium Women Fashion department on the second floor and the spectacular 700 square metres shoes department in the basement with international luxury labels such as Givenchy, Balenciaga or Chloé, the ground floor boasts a section for designer bags, accessoires and sunglasses. And since Breuninger sees itself not only as premium fashion store but also as premium host, customers can indulge in French pastries and pralinés, served with style at Breuninger’s famous patisserie shop.
Classic fashion asks for classic scenery: Opened in 1937, Braun Hamburg has always been one of the city’s most sublime shopping addresses on Mönckeberg boulevard. blocher partners modernised the venerable flagship store. The new façade provides visitors already with a first notion of the extraordinary shopping experience that awaits them inside. The store’s colour concept favours natural materials. Furniture made of high-quality and sustainable materials such as terrazzo, natural stone and brass accentuates the luxurious look, while anthracite-coloured leather panels with brass joints on the outer walls add to the warm, modern and classic atmosphere.
Situated in the luxury shopping district of Vienna, between St. Stephan’s cathedral and the State Opera, for decades STEFFL department store is known as mecca for luxury brand shopping. With the re-fit of several departments, the store’s long-standing tradition has now been successfully fused with a futurist design. Aluminium and perforated sheet metals, for example, define the interior of the sports floor, as do furnishings made of granite and perspex. The materiality and finishing of the special furniture items is a sensitive combination connecting the beautiful Vienna region with luxury brands, creating a sophisticated art atmosphere that orchestrates fashion as artwork.
