BLUES CD STORE FEATURED NEW RELEASES The legendary Texan guitar-slinger returns with his first solo outing in nearly 9 years, a collection of mostly covers on which Jimmy and cohorts capture the authentic studio sound of the late 50s when most of the tracks were first cut. Jimmie handpicked the covers originally made famous by the likes of Little Richard, Jimmy Reed, Roy Milton, Willie Nelson, and more. For this newest release he consulted the vast blues encyclopedia that resides deep inside of his head and come up with a nearly all-covers set best described by its unambiguous title: Blues, Ballads & Favorites.
Jimmie Vaughan - Jimmie Vaughan Plays Blues, Ballads & Favorites £12.99 This unique 2 CD 50 track collection from one of the most famous Blues singers of all time illustrates his transition from R&B chart star to folk blues favourite. Includes the original versions of two of his most influential and popular hits, “I Love You Honey” and the classic “Dimples”. Fantastic rocking R&B is followed by intense acoustic performances including the entire “Burnin’” LP initially only ever released in Britain. Full sleeve notes and chart history complete this brilliant package.
John Lee Hooker - Blues In Transition 1955 - 1959 £9.99 Blues, soulful vocals, dub, reggae, gospel – in a space where the dirt roads of the Deep South meet the shiny lanes of the Information Superhighway. Skip ‘Little Axe’ McDonald, the legendary blues guitarist, might not have sold his soul at the crossroads, but he’s looked both ways – down the road of the old blues, up the highway of the future – before proceeding. Little Axe have returned to their roots on Bought For a Dollar, Sold For a Dime. For the first time in 17 years the original crew came together for this rare and privileged session.
Little Axe - Bought For A Dollar Sold For A Dime £12.50 Jenny from Sweden is a terrific vocalist and an extraordinary harmonica player. The last few years she's worked hard on her songwriting and now she's finally recorded her first solo album 'Coming Home'. But it's been a long and bumpy road. Her producer Thomas Almqvist suddenly passed away and Jenny got another devastating blow. She was diagnosed cancer . It's a great album in its own right. Even without knowing the tragic background, it's an album that will touch your heart. It will make you cry and laugh and dance.
Jenny Bohman - Coming Home £13.50

Walter Trout – Common Ground £12.99 £11.75 - Trout’s 19th solo album Common Ground was produced by John Porter (The Smiths, BB King, Buddy Guy), and straddles the worlds of Rock and Blues. His vocal intonation and affinity for timeless riffs deliver a collection of tracks that are destined to be instant classics. These songs simply are the core essence of feeling, and demonstrate Trout’s keen ability to craft moving compositions as a songwriter and lyricist. Trout’s backing band on Common Ground consists of bassist Hutch Hutchinson, drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson), and pianist John Cleary. This lethal combination of talent will embed into your soul and ease into your heart as the shredding melds blues and rock. Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip, Gary Novak – Renegade Creation £12.50 – ‘Renegade Creation’ is collaboration between renowned guitarists Robben Ford and Michael Landau, drummer Gary Novak and bassist Jimmy Haslip. Renegade Creation brings to mind the essence of classic Blues Rock crossed with the adventurous sophistication of fusion, yet the music leaves room for each player’s phenomenal abilities to shine. Although, brimming with fantastic solos, this record is more than a mere vehicle for fantastic soloing, as the compositions are important, well arranged pieces of music that exhibit a synergy rarely heard in today’s music. Robben Ford – Blue Moon £9.50 – Compelling, rock and soul-infused album of his signature blues. Re released 2002 album. Matt Schofield – Live From The Archive £12.99 £11.99 - This is Matt Schofield’s first organ trio lineup at its scintillating best. Recorded in 2007 at a live-to-air radio broadcast for Holland’s NPS network, LIVE FROM THE ARCHIVE reprieves songs from Schofield’s first two albums. There is also the only recording to-date of the band’s ever-popular rendition of Black Cat Bone, first popularized by Albert Collins. The nine tracks include an 18-minute version of The Letter, in which Messrs Schofield, Henderson and Jenkins amply demonstrate their improvisational skills. The whole album bristles with the musicianship and energy for which Schofield is renowned. Oli Brown – Heads I Win Tails You Lose £12.99 - The eagerly awaited follow up to Oli Brown’s critically acclaimed debut ‘Open Road’ is released on Ruf Records . ‘Heads I win, Tails You Lose’ features that unique Oli Brown sound; clean guitar, great riffs and a vocal honed by two years of touring that squeezes every emotion from the lyrics. The album shows the quality of Oli’s song writing with stunning tracks like Evil Soul and Speechless, yet he refuses to shy away from adapting his own favourite classics such as ‘Fever’ and ‘No Diggity’. This album was produced by the legendary Mike Vernon (Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Ten Years After), who was keen to come out of retirement to work with the talented Oli after hearing his debut CD. Jimmy Bowskill – Live £12.99 – Discovered by Jeff Healey at the age of 11 playing guitar outside of his club in Toronto, he has opened for Dickey Betts, Garth Hudson, ZZ Top, Deep Purple and The Sam Roberts Band. He has toured internationally including shows in Germany, Ukraine, France, Mexico and at the World Expo in Japan in 2005. He has also received a Juno Award nomination for Best Blues Album. All this and he’s only 19 years-old. Jimmy Bowskill Band Live is an explosion of Blues and Rock. The album is spiced with two Paul Rodgers songs. Peter Green is represented by the song Rattlesnake Shake. Aynsley Lister – The Tower Sessions £13.99 - The TOWER SESSIONS is in fact Aynsley’s “Greatest LIVE Hits “ album. A collection of 11 songs, that Aynsley has performed during the past 5/6 years. Most importantly, the TOWER SESSIONS includes Aynsley’s first ever recording of his fans favourite track, a truly stellar version of Prince’s Purple Rain. Recorded in January 2010, at The Tower Winchester, totally live, no overdubs or studio trickery, the TOWER SESSIONS is a superb example of Aynsley and his band in their prime. 3.
Larry Miller – Unfinished Business £12.99 - Larry Miller has been cited as one of the UK's premier blues/ROCK guitarists. He is fast becoming one of the must see blues/rock acts of 2010. With his energetic and eclectic style, Larry brings a new dimension of showmanship to his performances and carries through the passion and feel to this new studio album. He probably has not had the exposure he deserves but this CD should bring him into the limelight. There are eight tracks of powerful electric guitar played with passion, hitting the highs of blues/rock guitar, plus one acoustic track showing a completely different side to Larry. The CD has real songs and at times has similarities to Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa and Rory Gallagher but Larry Miller is his own man and his own style shines through. Two Larry Miller CDs that have been unavailable for a while are now available again. Larry Miller CDs now available again - Larryocaster £12.99 / Man On A Mission £12.99. Also in stock: Outlaw Blues, Fearless and Live n Loud all £12.99 each Derek Trucks – Roadsongs Live 2 CD Set £14.50 - This is the first live album from Derek Trucks Band since 2004s Live at Georgia Theatre and includes hits from Already Free. Roadsongs was recorded over two nights at Chicago’s long-standing rock palace Park West in 2009, with a full horn section added to the group’s six-piece lineup. Blue Floyd - Live In Pennsylvania 21 Jan 00 3 CD Set £26.99 – Expensive but brilliant live album featuring some unique Blues style workouts of Pink Floyd classics. The band features former/current members of the Allman Bros, Gov't Mule and the Black Crowes. This concert recording took place in January 2000 and features the lineup of Allen Woody - guitar, bass & vocals, Matt Abts - drums, Marc Ford - guitar & vocals, Johnny Neel - keyboards, harmonica & vocals Berry Oakley - bass, percussion & vocals. As well as the obvious blues workouts the band also include their own particular take on the Floyd classics. Blue Floyd are, as you can imagine, a true musical experience where one genre of music meets another and finds a place to accommodate both. Nick Moss – Privileged £12.75 - Originals, rock songs and makeovers of Chicago blues standards. Nick Moss sings with confidence and heats up his guitar bursting with a sense of newfound musical vigor. Elvin Bishop - Red Dog Speaks £13.50 - Elvin’s brand new release “Red Dog Speaks”, his second on Delta Groove Music, is the exciting next step in his blues journey. Right out of the gate, Bishop leaves no doubt where his heart is, cleverly introducing his long-time cohort - a 1959 Gibson ES-345 that lovingly answers to the name of “Red Dog”, with a gritty slow blues calculated to set the pace for what’s to come. Strutting blues and R&B, to a good dose of good-time rock & roll, and even doo-wop, zydeco and gospel. Guest appearances. John Nemeth, Buckwheat Zydeco, Roy Gaines, Tommy Castro, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and Kid Andersen And all of it adds up to an amalgam that can only be called “Elvin Bishop music.” The Mannish Boys - Shake For Me £13.50 - The Mannish Boys fifth album, “Shake For Me,” carries forth the tradition by presenting an inspired program of deep, lowdown blues supported by a surprising and ever-revolving unit of world class musicians. Reprising their all-star roles in the band are Finis Tasby, Bobby Jones, Johnny Dyer, Kirk Fletcher, Frank Goldwasser, and Randy Chortkoff, joined here by an entirely new and outstanding rhythm section comprised of members of The James Harman Band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers. As is customary on any Mannish Boys release, special guests abound. – Rod Piazza, Mitch Kashmar, Lynwood Slim, Arthur Adams, Kid Ramos, Nick Curran, Mike Zito, Fred Kaplan, Rob Rio and Andy Kaulkin. Hollywood Blue Flames - Deep In America £13.50 £12.99 – “Deep In America” follows true to the formula of the band’s previous two-disc set, “Road To Rio,” once again throwing open the vaults and treating fans to a virtual treasure trove of classic archival material obtained from two different eras of the band. Disc one gathers together various studio sessions over the years with previously unreleased material that includes outtakes, alternates and some newly recorded songs. Disc two contains more vintage live recordings taken from various sources of the original Hollywood Fats Band. “Deep In America” stands as a testament to the strength and power of a band whose music continues to burn ever so brightly. 4.
Kirk Fletcher - My Turn £14.50 - Guitarist Kirk "Eli" Fletcher is, ironically, a rare presence on today's blues scene: a young African-American man who has thoroughly immersed himself in the classic blues sounds of the 1950s and '60s. On that project Kirk was supported by some the hottest and most experienced West Coast blues veterans, among them vocalist Finis Tasby, an association that laid the groundwork for The Mannish Boys, whom Fletcher has been appearing and recording ever since, The Hollywood Blue Flames and his main band these days, The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jackie Payne Steve Edmonson Band - Master of the Game £14.50 - Jackie Payne possesses one of the greatest natural soul voices to come along since the 60s and spent his formative years working with many legendary blues figures including T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Gatemouth Brown, Lowell Fulson, Pee Wee Crayton and Freddy King. Also in stock Jackie Payne Steve Edmonson Band – Overnight Sensation - now reduced to £11.99 or only £9.99 if you purchase ‘Master of the Game’ Dr. John And The Lower 911 – Tribal £12.99 - The latest album includes contributions from Derek Trucks , Allen Toussaint and the late Bobby Charles. Recorded with his band “The Lower 911,” Tribal includes some of the down ‘n’ dirtiest tracks he has recorded since 1968’s iconic Gris Gris. Replete with swamp rock, funk, Creole voodoo, and Mardi Gras Indian chants, ‘Tribal’ resurrects the magical persona of “The Night Tripper” in his full regalia. Dr John displays the rippling piano licks, Cajun-fried humor and sharp political observation that have helped make him a national spokesman for post-Katrina New Orleans. Also available as 2LP Set – 180 Gm Vinyl at £17.99 (+ £2.50 P&P) Big Brother And The Holding Company - Ball & Chain 2CD Mediabook £13.75 - This limited edition CD set comprises audio and audio-visual recordings made by the band at the height of their creativity. The 2CD set features recordings of San Francisco concerts heard here in pristine sound. The 12 tracks making up disc 1 are all previously unreleased, having only recently been discovered by surviving band members, and were recorded in January 1967 at The Matrix. Those on disc 2 were recorded in July 1966 at California Hall and have previously only been available as poor quality bootlegs. Disc 2 also contains two enhanced videos filmed at the studios of KQED TV in April 1967, just weeks before the group’s legendary Monterey Festival appearance, and is also previously-unreleased with excellent sound and picture quality for the era. This release is housed in a hard back media book and includes notes from two of the original band members as well as additional detailed notes. Colosseum - Live 05 2 CD Set £12.99 - Their most popular songs + some never before heard material from the 1995 tour featuring Barbara Thompson on sax adding an extra dimension to the Colosseum sound. The first set features performances from Stuttgart together with the both tracks “Lights” and the Jack Bruce Classic “Rope Ladder To The Moon” from Worpswede / Germany. The second set was recorded at The Treibhaus in Innsbruck / Austria. So now, you can enjoy a real complete COLOSSEUM-Concert with the fanstastic voice of Chris Farlowe, the virtuosics Clem Clemspon, Dave Greenslade and Barbara Thompson plus the outstanding Bass player Mark Clarke and drumming legend Jon Hiseman. Gerry McAvoy - Can’t Win ‘Em All £12.99 - Gerry McAvoy is an exceptional and gifted Irish blues rock bass guitarist who is known for his 30 plus years playing bass with Rory Gallagher and currently with Nine Below Zero. ‘Can't Win `Em All’ is his first solo album and captures his solid bass line, complex notes, rhythms ,songwriting skills and his deep warm enchanting vocals. Downchild - I Need A Hat £12.99 - 40th anniversary new album release, a collection of new original songs which pay tribute to Downchild’s pioneering of the Canadian Blues scene. The album includes some of the biggest names in Blues including film star and member of the world famous Blues Brothers, Dan Aykroyd- playing harmonica. Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns also joins the cast of stellar musicians on trumpet, and Canada’s own blues-rockers Colin James and Colin Linden on guitars. Jimmy Thackery, And The Drivers – Live in Detroit - £13.99 - Jimmy and his two compadres are found here in their natural habitat -- a live show. The set gives ample space for some extended workouts on which the guitarist's Stratocaster really sings. Also available: Jimmy Thackery Switching Gears £9.99. 5.
Smokin’ Joe Kubek and Bnois King - Have Blues, Will Travel £12.99 Hard-hitting Texas blues band has been recording and touring the U.S. and the world since the early ‘90s. Smokin’ Joe is a guitar hero in the tradition of Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Bnois is a deeply soulful vocalist and terrific guitarist in his own right. Add a combustible rhythm section and you get 11 critically acclaimed albums. Cookie McGee - One Way Ticket £11.50 - A live set from the shamefully under-recorded Queen of Texas blues, captured in her home town of Dallas Cookie grew up neighbours with Freddie King's children and at one time spent five years playing with the Freddie King Jr band. A left-hander, she plays the guitar "upside down and wrong way round" but that hasn't stopped her producing the blistering old school guitar breaks which mark her performances. Her career has been intermittent but as the South West blues magazine noted back in 1998 she is "..one of those Dallas-Fort Worth blues people who will pop up from time to time, and just shock the heck out of you". Lucky Peterson guests on organ. Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames - Burnin' Love £12.75 - Blues guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader Dave Weld has certainly paid his dues. He got his start on Chicago's west side in the late ‘70s playing in the 1815 club house band with Chico Chism, Shorty Gilbert, Hubert Sumlin, Detroit Junior and Eddie Shaw. He learned a lot from JB Hutto and teamed up with JB’s nephew Li’l Ed with whom he played every joint on the west side for 10 years, finally heading his own band in 1988. This is Weld’s Delmark debut and it features the legendary Abb Locke on saxophone. Johnny Winter And - Live At The Fillmore East 10/3/70 £13.50 - The other live album from Johnny Winter And, 1971’s Live Johnny Winter And, has always ranked as one of the high points of Johnny’s discography, but this 66- minute stacks up against that record. In fact, when you hear Johnny and Rick Derringer trading off lead after lead, you may well be reminded of a bluesier, harder-edged Allman Brothers, with Johnny as Duane and Derringer as Dickey Betts with the McCoys’ rhythm section. In other words, this is some of the most ferocious blues-rock ever laid down on stage. Tracks: Guess I’ll Go Away / Good Morning Little Schoolgirl / Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo / It’s My Own Fault / Highway 61 / Mean Town Blues / Rollin’ and Tumblin. Greg Koch - From the Attic £15.99 £14.99 - Greg Koch has been called a twisted guitar genius and eclectic virtuoso by guitar pundits. In his own words, he is nothing short of a plectrum wielding skullduggarist . The towering Koch is moving beyond mere local hero status in the upper Midwest and becoming an internationally renowned guitarist and session ace, and in demand worldwide as guitar clinician for Fender. This new album presents 10 new compositions and features his new trio sound." Nick Curran & The Lowlifes - Reform School Girl £13.99 - Rock/Blues singer/guitarist Nick Curran uses vintage recording equipment for his albums to achieve the feel and sound of old 45s and 78s, and the LPs of the 1950s. ‘Reform School Girl’ is a culmination of his multitude of talents: a throwback to his roots, only amped up to the limit. Nick’s influences are there, from old blues like Lazy Lester and T-Bone Walker to girl groups like the Ronettes and to Guns N Roses. Special guests include Jason Ricci. Hot Tuna - Live At New Orleans House September 69 £12.99 - Blues band-within-a-band side project of Jefferson Airplane’s Jack Cassidy and Jorma Kaukonen outlasted the parent band, of course, and continues on to this day, but here’s a priceless opportunity to hear a collection of completely unreleased performances from the duo’s early days in super high fidelity . And the set list? Practically a Hot Tuna greatest hits. Hot Tuna - Best of Grunt Only 7.99 - A selection of 16 tracks recorded for the Grunt label between 1971 and 1978. Released in 2007. Johnny Moeller - Bloogaloo £12.99 - The floating bent notes, delicately singing phrases, bursts of staccato picking, and ringing piano-like chords that he sculpts into vibrant solos bring all the beauty, power, and mystery of the blues to life. Moeller, who leads his own bands and is a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, is the latest in a long line of six-string wizards to hail from Austin. His playing is influenced by legendary Lone Star staters like Albert Collins, Lightnin’ Hopkins and the Vaughan Brothers but has his own thing, which is blues based, and mixes soul, jazz, funk and rock ‘n’ roll. 6.
Otis Taylor - Clovis People Vol 3 £13.99 - Bluesman and songwriter Otis Taylor has become famous as the architect of a uniquely sparse and hypnotic style that has become known as “trance blues.” Joining him on ‘Clovis People, Vol. 3’ are guitarist Gary Moore on a couple of tracks and pedal steel player Chuck Campbell as well as regular collaborators Ron Miles on cornet and daughter Cassie on bass and vocals. This is Otis Taylor’s seventh release on Telarc Blues and with each new recording he continues his experiments with different sounds, this time adding new elements such as the theremin, organ, violin and cello which are interspersed throughout the album. Joe Bonamassa – Black Rock £12.99 – We have three left of the limited edition digipak sleeve version. Eric Gales - Relentless £12.99 - A unique amalgam of styles, Eric Gales stands head and shoulders among other guitarists in his genre. Eric's third Provogue record ‘The Story Of My Life’ took the next logical step in Eric's career and was rooted firmly in the blues, further establishing Gales as one of the rare musical talents of his generation. ‘Relentless’ is the next logical step in this prolific artist's career as it is deeply cantered in the blues but played with the edge and aggression of a young guitar hero. Philip Sayce – Innerevolution CD + DVD £12.99 - Philip Sayce’s new studio album is a collection of songs, that further establishes Philip Sayce not only as one of the finest blues guitarists around, but also as a musician, singer and songwriter with tremendous talent and potential. Robert Cray - Authorized Bootleg - Live, Outdoor Concert, Austin, Texas, May 25 1987 £12.99 Robert Cray was well on his way to being one of the faces of modern blues when captured here live at an outdoor festival in Austin, Texas. Originally aired on the King Biscuit Flower Hour, this concert accurately presents Cray’s distinctive, warm, smooth style. His soulful voice and stinging, precise guitar serve up a sampling of songs from Strong Persuader as well as his earlier albums, also giving a preview of his next album. All in all, a fine live snapshot of an artist in his early prime. 7.
John Norum - Play Yard Blues £12.99 – Europe guitarist John Norum’s long awaited new solo album ‘Play Yard Blues’. A fantastic collection of John Norum originals as well as a couple of covers. The difference with previous solo is that Play Yard Blues shows a little different side of John. The trademark sound and riffings are definitely there but John also follows a more bluesy approach in several songs. With the success of the recent Europe album, this album will find its way to his already massive fan base as well as to an audience of say Frank Marino. ‘Play Yard Blues’ is a great album with some spectacular playing from one of the best. Dickey Betts & Great Southern - 30 Years Of Southern Rock 2 CD Set £9.99 - Dickey Betts was a founding member of the legendary Allman Brothers Band. As the second solo guitarist creating an influence with his melodic playing, his solos and improvisations marked the music style. In 1976 Dickey Betts founded his own group Great Southern. It was the band’s European debut in the sold out Grugahalle in Essen in front of a million TV viewers all across Europe. The second CD contains a special bonus Rockpalast Show from 2008. Although 30 years had passed, Dickey Betts still delivers a fresh and amazing concert. This double CD set was planned to be released last year but the release was postponed. For those who ordered this CD previously, please re order with confidence, as we can now confirm there is stock available. Paul Butterfield Band - Rockpalast: Blues Rock Legends Vol 2 £9.99 - He brought a young band to the Rockpalast night in Essen. His second guitarist, Peter Atanasoff, was just 19. Inducted into the Blues Hall Of Fame in 2006. This CD pays tribute to a great musician. Spirit - Rockpalast: West Cost Legends Volume 3 £9.99 – The three-piece whose sophisticated arrangements consisting of rock, jazz, blues and psychedelic elements still had all the power of a ‘simple’ classic rock trio. A special highlight came towards the end of the show when Dickey Betts, who had appeared on stage with his band Great Southern before Spirit, brought out his wall of amps again to jam with Spirit. One review even claimed that this jam had been the best performance broadcast by German television by that time. His melodious southern rock guitar presented a striking contrast with Randy California’s tougher guitar style. Various - Let Me Tell You About The Blues - Atlanta 3CD Set £11.75 Fifth title in the ‘Let Me Tell You About The Blues’ series. The source of Atlanta’s principal blues style was Curley Weaver’s mother, Savannah Shepard, who also taught the Hicks brothers, Charlie and Robert, known on record as Charlie Lincoln and Barbecue Bob. World War II put paid to recording in Atlanta until the end of the 1940s, when record companies returned to the city. McTell and Weaver were still around and other country blues artists like Frank Edwards, David Wylie and Pinetop Slim made their mark. But their music was in decline as rhythm & blues rose in importance. Atlanta’s stars included Billy Wright, Piano Red and Blow Top Lynn, sometimes backed by bands led by tenor-man Fred Jackson. Most popular of all were Chuck Willis and Little Richard, who both went on to greater fame. They merely underlined once again what a valuable breeding ground for talent Atlanta had been.
