Simon McBride - Since Then £12.75 As you can hear from the audience reaction, it was a great treat and thrill for German audiences in the early 1950's to have the opportunity to see not only a great figure from the authentic world of the Blues, Big Bill Broonzy, but also to be entertained by the consummate "Traditional" Jazz band of Graeme Bell. The recording quality is superb, matching the performances of both Broonzy and the Bell group. For authenticity, this retains the original German announcements, for which a translation is provided in the notes.

Big Bill Broonzy - In Concert With Graeme Bell & His Australian Jazz Band £7.99 Mark Butcher is best known as a former professional Cricketer. On the album itself Mark has this to say: “Lyrically, the songs reflect relationships, family, love and loss, the human condition – at least the condition of this human at the time! In terms of influences, there’s a lot of soul in there and obviously the blues- kind of Al Green meets Eric Clapton in terms of style. Soul singing, guitars, horns, Hammond organ, backing vocals - that’s where it’s at for me. I saw Robert Cray in 2006 and thought, that’s what I want to do!”

Mark Butcher Songs - From The Sun House £11.99 Recorded live during the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise earlier this year, JLW was backed by his long time band and joined on stage by many old friends including guests Johnny Winter, Tommy Castro, Duke Robillard, Kenny Neal, Tab Benoit, Watermelon Slim and a dozen other blues who’s who artists. Walker is a multiple Grammy Award and Blues Music Award winner and one of the highest profile blues artists on the scene. This gatefold, digipak CD comes with an 8-page booklet. Eric Clapton – The Platinum Collection 3 CD Set £16.75 - This 3 CD pack brings together three of his classic albums; the smooth bossa nova inspired ‘Reptile’ (now deleted as a CD album), his tribute to blues legend Robert Johnson, ‘Me & Mr Johnson’ and the legendary live and acoustic ‘Unplugged’, featuring the Grammy award winning ‘Tears in Heaven.’. Includes contemporary interpretations of songs by Howlin’ Wolf, Lowell Fulson, Earl King, Otis Rush, Jessie Hill and BB King. “A very enjoyable album giving a new lease of life to traditional blues. Top class playing and production throughout”. Ronnie Earl And The Broadcasters Spread The Love £13.99 - ‘Spread The Love’ consists of 14 instrumental tracks, soaked through with energy, passion, drive, serious grooves. Once again, Earl seems to have ‘upped’ his guitar playing and has created a varied mix of blues, jazz and soul, all marked by his distinctive intense guitar style and the passionate conviction he brings to every track. Ronnie Earl has played with many greats and was a member of Roomful Of Blues. Also available: Hope Radio £13.99 – Living the Light £13.99. Snowy White Blues Project - In Our Time... Eddie Turner _ Miracles & Demons £13.99 - Eddie Turner is one of the best blues guitarists and this CD demonstrates not only his prowess with the instrument, but also his terrific song-writing. Born in Cuba and raised in Chicago, Eddie Turner’s influences stem from both the Afro-Cuban rhythms of his heritage and his immersion in the music of the time - Blues, Rock and R&B. In 1995, Eddie joined Otis Taylor and Kenny Passarelli to form the Otis Taylor Band and helped create the Otis Taylor sound. He continually receives rave reviews for his psychedelic guitar-playing. Eddie was nominated Blues Music Award Best New Artist for his debut album ‘Rise’. Now, Eddie is back to prove that he’s a guitar god for the 21st century. Jim Byrnes Everywhere West £13.50 - Jim Byrnes’ 4th album for Black Hen Music is Jim’s bluesiest album in years. “Everywhere West” includes raw and stripped-down takes on classic material and some originals by Jim himself. This is a blues-lovers dream! ‘He sings with an emotional rasp reflecting his road-hardened years, but he does so with the steely glint of an artist who has finally found himself’ – Blues Revue JJ Grey & Mofro - Georgia Warhorse £13.50 - Southern, swamp funk and country soul with clipped guitar lines dance atop surging drums and growling bass lines, whilst Hammond B3, horns and harmonica prowl the fringes of these 11 tracks. Over classic arrangements JJ‘s passion and soul are palpable, marking him as a singer of rare ability. Toots Hibbert adds a fine duet with JJ on ‘The Sweetest Thing’ and Derek Trucks gets very slippery-slidey over the albums closer ‘Lullaby’. The band’s latest album “Busted Broken and Blue” showcases the evolution of the 24Pesos sound – 11 boot stompin’ originals drawing from influences as diverse as Ray Charles, The Meters, James Brown, Freddie King, Howlin Wolf, and the Roots. Featuring saw-tooth Dobro guitars, searing harmonicas, a funky old school rhythm section and a greasy Hammond B3, the album showcases an eclectic and infectious blend that is the unmistakable 24Pesos sound. 4.

Black Country Communion CD £12.99 - Black Country Communion comprise of blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple Black Sabbath ), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper). All songs are sung by Glenn Hughes, with the exception of Song Of Yesterday and The Revolution In Me which are both sung by Joe Bonamassa. Hughes and Bonamassa share lead vocals on the songs Sista Jane and Too Late For The Sun. Black Country Communion is the brainchild of producer Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin). Black Country Communion initially came to fruition when Kevin Shirley saw Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa join forces on stage in Los Angeles in November 2009 for an explosive performance at Guitar Centre’s King of the Blues event. This is very much a Spectacular, melodic hard rock / classic rock album with a blues influence via the guitar of Joe Bonamassa. If you only like blues you’ll probably won’t like this CD. If you like blues and rock you may like this. Undeniably, superb playing and production. Black Country Communion CD + DVD £12.99 - We also have in stock a version with a DVD. Dani Wilde – Shine £13.50 - So often the follow-up to a superb sophomore CD is looked forward to with eager anticipation and so often there is a sense of disappointment. Not so with this second release from Dani Wilde. For some weird reason, I didn’t really take to the first 20 seconds of the first track on first play and was expecting to be disappointed. By the end of a minute or so, I had experienced a volte-face. Totally. I was hooked. Absolutely. Without overworking the puns, ‘Shine’ is a polished article free of glitz and proof indeed that here is a young talent that has sustainability. This CD, produced by legendary Mike Vernon – seemingly having as many ‘come-backs’ from retirement as Frank Sinatra – is a worthy successor to ‘Heal My Blues.’ Accompanied on a couple of tracks by former Blues Caravan tour-mate, the brilliant Laura Chavez, who puzzlingly remains below the radar despite her enormous skills and technique, Dani has written some class material to place alongside the Jagger/Richards ‘Miss You’ and Dana Gillespie’s ‘Where Blue Begins.’ Make no mistake, this CD guarantees Dani Wilde a great future and RUF Records seem to have hit on a rich seam of Blues/Rock talent. Bob Williams - Blues Show Bob. Also available debut album ‘Heal My Blues £12.99 Ben Prestage – Real Music £11.99 - Is exactly what this is. Prestage weaves his way through a selection of (mainly) traditional favourites putting his very personal stamp on all. Providing vocals and foot drums as well as guitar, dobro and diddley-bow (even providing the cover art for the CD), he is the consummate one-man band. There’s almost a perverse pleasure to note that there is one more track on the CD than is credited on the inside liner proving that this man is not entirely faultless! Due to tour the UK with Ian Siegal this Autumn, Ben Prestage will soon become a well-known name here – this is your chance to get in on the ground floor. If acoustic Blues is your thing, this is definitely your thing. Bob Williams - Blues Show Bob Spikedrivers – Seven £11.99 - This latest offering from probably one of the most popular ensembles on the circuit is predictable. This might seem an insult to most but with the SPIKEdrivers, it means that there is an inherent quality and invention attaching to the whole project. This, their seventh release (hence the pithy title) defines their sound and yet moves it on too. Ben, Constance and Maurice have been together for some years now and one might expect that this would be a tired factory-produced collection from an established ensemble. Quite the contrary! These guys truly enjoy playing together and they experiment constantly with adding new sound, arrangements and percussion to their repertoire. This given of the SPIKEdrivers’ credo instantly manifests itself on any of their work and guarantees a considered freshness to their performance; both live and recorded. This album is a must-have member of any Blues collection. Bob Williams - Blues Show Bob. Also available: Live At high Barn, Delta Roots and Ain’t It Real at £11.99 each Erja Lyytenin – Voracious Love £13.50 - This CD contrasts starkly with her previous offering ‘Grip Of The Blues.’ Although this too begins in full-on fashion, with riffs and hooks to satisfy all who like their music pacey and rhythmic, it quickly changes pace to become a thoughtful, more evocative creature. This is Erja Lyytenin in a different mood. There are snatches throughout the CD which demonstrate her complete mastery of her instrument and this, perhaps, is what her reputation has been built on. But this is a more consummate product in which her voice – again softer and more compelling takes the lead on most tracks; in truth, I can’t stop playing it. It truly is a superb album and I would recommend it to all. The stand out track for me would be ‘I Can’t Fall In Love.’ Bob Williams - Blues Show Bob.Also available: Dreamland Blues and Grip Of The Blues at £12.99 ea. 12.

Larry Miller – Unfinished Business £12.99 - David and Ed Milliband have had all the attention in recent months. Time to focus our gaze instead on the far more exciting Larry Miller Band. This youthful rising star of the British (and European) Blues Rock Scene always gives 100% with his high-energy live performances. His guitar work is blurringly phenomenal yet always under control and he puts so much into his shows that the audiences have to catch their collective breath. At a recent show, I heard someone pine “ ... usually takes other guitarists 2 or 3 songs to get up to speed but he was there from the first note!” So, all of this begs the question: Can a studio album ever be more than a pale imitation of a live show? I’m delighted to report that “Unfinished Business” is about the best attempt I’ve heard to translate the live experience to CD. A selection of 9 originals provides a cross-section of songs showcasing Larry’s unique skills – guitar and vocal. There’s even a ballad included; “Covering Me” is an appealing - slightly off-key offering which is thoughtful, interesting and in marked contrast to the rest of the selection. Purchase of this CD will, I feel, lead to a certain purchase of Larry’s back catalogue too. The first track on the album is “Mad Dog” – my advice? – Go fetch! Bob Williams - Blues Show Bob Other Larry Miller CDs In stock: - Outlaw Blues, Fearless, Live n Loud, Larryocaster , Man On A Mission - all £12.99 each or if you are a member for a limited period £11.50 each. Richard Newman Bluestones – A Blues Album £10 – This is an album by Richard Newman, veteran bluesman of the London Blues scene, featuring electric blues and acoustic slide. Richard has been involved in many journalistic, radio and TV projects with British Blues over the years. The album mixes originals and blues covers including Going Down Slow, 44 Blues, Death Letter Blues Worried Life Blues. The CD is a new release but was recorded during 2006 and 2007. There’s a striking resemblance on the opening track, ‘Going Down Slow’, to the early blues work of Tony McPhee and the Groundhogs. This track wouldn’t be out of place on The Groundhogs ‘Blues Obituary’ album. Maybe it’s Richard’s vocals, a London thing, or the raw guitar work. The album moves on through different styles but has very much a retro British Blues sound with some frantic passionate electric playing by Richard complimented by his laid back acoustic blues guitar. ‘New Stranger Blues’ rocks it up and the acoustic slide on ‘The Street’ has the eerie aura of Skip James. This is an interesting album with a primitive charm and individuality missing on so many modern releases. Delbert Black. Various - This Is The Blues – All Volumes £8.50 each This is a great series in 4 volumes of modern blues and blues/rock from the world’s best blues & rock musicians. Where this series differs from other compilations is that it is not the usual tracks and blues artists. There are unusual combinations of musicians on different tracks and not all in their normal bands. A real interesting and refreshing listen. We feel this series is so good you will probably want all 4 volumes.

Traditional Blues And Other Associated Traditional Music Past & Present Charlie Musselwhite - The Well £12.99 - Featuring 13 new Musselwhite compositions, the new CD is wonderfully understated but shot through with a living-the-blues attitude that can’t be faked. The CD includes a duet with Charlie’s close friend, legendary vocalist Mavis Staples on ‘Sad And Beautiful World’, his response to the tragic murder of his 93-year-old mother in her own home (and the house Charlie grew up in) during a burglary. "Superb, original and compelling....harmonica master Musselwhite sets the standard for blues." Rolling Stone magazine James Cotton – Giant £13.50 - Cotton, over the course of a 66-year career, has earned his place as a world icon of blues harmonica James learned from other blues giants—Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin‘ Wolf, and of course Muddy Waters, at whose side he played for over a decade. These days James leaves the singing to his band, but every time he raises that harp to his lips, the sheer force and ferocity of his music reaffirms his status as Mr. Superharp Himself, an undisputed giant of the blues. Dedicated to the memory of Koko Taylor. The John O’Leary Band - Two For The Show 2 CD Set £11.50 £9.99 - The first release on the new Trapeze label is by Harmonica wizard John O’Leary, a veteran of the British blues scene. He was a founder member back in the ‘60s of the Savoy Brown Blues Band, a member of the John Dummer Blues Band and Mainsqueeze. This 2-CD comprises of The John O’Leary Band 2004 studio album “Sins”, well reviewed at the time of original issue, and a hitherto unreleased 2006 ‘live’ album recorded at Mr. Kyp’s club in Poole. The two albums present this top-class band in the contrasting environments, and are a worthy showcase for one of the great names of British blues. Paul Lamb & The King Snakes - Mind Games £11.99 - New album from Britain’s greatest Blues Harmonica player. This album sees him and his band blowing up a storm on a collection of home penned numbers and a few blues standards. Eddie King And Mae Bee Mae - The Blues Has Got Me £12.99 The appearance of this first album by the brother and sister headed band of Eddie King / Mae Bee Mae is compelling evidence of the musical riches that can still be found in dozens of small bars in the heart of working class black areas on Chicago´s South and west sides. Eddie King has engaging vocals and B.B. Kingstyle guitar and sister Mae has powerful gospelized-blues vocals. They are veteran Chicago West Siders who perform a kind of music that blends striking blues licks, soul emoting, and gospel. The very essence of Chicago bar-band blues today. Mavis Staples - You Are Not Alone £11.99 – This is possibly the album of Mavis Staples career, a warm, powerful and fervent collection of brilliantly chosen and interpreted songs with a backbone of original spiritual roots from the Staples Singers era. The intimate and textured production mixes traditional gospel numbers with two new songs written for Mavis by Jeff Tweedy, plus her unique interpretations of songs by Pops Staples, Randy Newman, Allen Toussaint, John Fogerty, Rev. Gary Davis and Little Milton. Backed by Mavis’ smoking touring band and featuring guest turns from Tweedy and Wilco’s Patrick Sansone, with background vocals by Kelly Hogan and Nora O’Connor, the album cradles Mavis’ exquisite voice, allowing her to stretch out emotionally on tracks like Randy Newman’s “Losing You” and the Creedence Clearwater chesnut “Wrote a Song For Everyone.” 12” Vinyl version available at £15.99. 15.
