01 THE SCENARIO

Asset management in many landscape related industries has the opportunity to be more efficient and exacting. As budget requirements become more strict and institutional knowledge is often times lost. BMLA can systemize your asset management procedures saving money in not only the maintenance and operation costs, but save in bottom line budget. GIS (geographical information systems) can quantify and monitor your assets; as assets become digital they then can be attributed multiple values and qualities resulting in actionable information – information that can answer questions or forecast scenarios. Data collection is only the starting point; the goal is to use GIS, not only as a record keeping database, but to manage information and optimize workflow. BMLA will work with you to identify and record important landscape assets so that you may more efficiently manage them.

02 OUR SOLUTION DETERMINE THE

SCOPE

BMLA will first meet with you to determine the scope of work and possible opportunities.

PLAN THE PROJECT

Assessing the scope, a work plan will then be developed in order to realize the needs, expectations, and set the milestones of the project.

BMLA will identify proper procedures for the individual project that results in an acceptable work plan. Our work plan will address the project’s unique conditions using our strategies and quality control measures. This stage will include tasks such as: -Identifying available resources -Identifying stake holders -Establishing deliverable schedule

UTILIZE THE DATABASE Upon the completion of the digitizing work, the client will have the option of using your current GIS staff to maintain and utilize the data. Third party software such as GBA Master Series enhance the user interface with the GIS database. BMLA will take a consulting role and perform any analysis or maintenance tasks asked of us. The database developed through this combination of field assessment and map digitization presents a powerful tool in your day to day operations.

COLLECT THE DATA We begin digitizing the information by recording the real world position or coverage of all the features within the scope of work. A set of quality control procedures ensures that the data is free of any computer or human errors. Next, a second phase of data recording takes place with the use of analog information such as: paper maps, as-built drawings, CAD files, microfiche, archival scans, etc. It is in this phase that things such as model numbers, warranties, and maintenance schedules can be applied. The process ends with multiple quality control checks and final field verification. Starting with more initial information will easily allow the data to be attributed; though if your agency is lacking information, our services will set a firm starting point for the rest of your data collection to be built upon.

03 BENEFITS

Once BMLA has created a GIS database of your facilities and assets, you are then able to query multiple types of analysis questions, forecasts and scenarios. Some example are: • More precise expense forecasting • Efficient use of resources and staff • Control and track costs • Real-time field updates and access to database • Easily generate work orders and • Enhance coordination between departments • Create scenarios for future development

SITE SELECTION for proposed development In this example multiple data layers are indexed and overlayed to calculate the optimal locations for different types of development. Scenarios can be built to forecast future demographic, financial or growth changes based upon one or many development variables.

SOLUTION

With a GIS database you are able to graphically display and calculate trends, service coverage areas, costs and other inputs. These inputs can all be indexed and overlayed to render multiple scenarios allowing you to make a more informed decision. Ultimately a GIS database is a valuable tool for not only cost tracking but future planning.

LINK the field and office The GIS data is made available for field computers in real time. This will allow the field worker to instantly make updates to the database saving time and resulting in more accurate data. Field computers also give a technician the ability to explore and locate features quickly and with out the physical bounds of a paper map.

04 ABOUT US
