Business is About Community
A message from your Chamber President & CEO Connecting, Advancing, Protecting, Enhancing
W
hat does community mean to you? To us at the Boca Chamber, community means working together to advance local commerce and to support South Palm Beach County’s charitable needs while maintaining a thriving economy that includes: A-rated public schools, low taxes and award-winning public parks and beaches. We strongly believe that the key to our economic sustainability is the partnership between our local businesses and our community. In fact, with a membership of over 1,300 businesses, our community possesses unique regional leadership to ensure that partnership is authentic and robust.
By Troy M. McLellan CCE, FCCP President & CEO
Furthermore, we actively spotlight local businesses and their leaders to honor them for their success as well as for their contributions to our community. It is our belief that a community thrives with active and well-informed leaders. Our Leadership Boca program educates and trains business leaders to be more effective participants. This enables them to speak about issues and concerns that affect our community with more influence to make a positive difference. During the month of August, Boca Chamber Festival Days brought over 30 events to South Palm Beach County, which benefitted the non-profit organizations by raising funds that support the educational, cultural and humanitarian needs of our community. Additionally, throughout the past 21 years, we have been able to donate over $1.1 million to Boca Raton public schools thanks to our Golden Bell Education Foundation. The Chamber’s Government Affairs committee is continually working to ensure that Boca Raton’s tax rate remains low, fostering a healthy environment where businesses can thrive in a tightly-knit community where their employees can live, learn and play where they work. The Boca Chamber also supports community programs such as the Allianz Golf Championship and Boca Bacchanal, which provide positive economic impact to our business community and the Festival of the Arts BOCA, which also enriches our local culture. We at the Boca Chamber will continue to be committed to supporting your business by ensuring it thrives in an enviable community that provides a rich diversity of resources. By working together and joining hands to create a successful and purposeful business climate, we can move forward and prosper. That is community! To your success,

Boca Raton Community Cheers YEA! For Entrepreneurship Enhancing Community
Boca Chamber Welcomes Young Entrepreneurs Academy Students The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or YEA!, is an innovative program that guides students through the process of starting their own business. The Boca Chamber and its partner, FAU Adams Center for Entrepreneurship, are excited to announce the start of the 2013-2014 YEA! Program at the FAU College of Business. YEA! is a program of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce’s Golden Bell Education Foundation. It is a groundbreaking program that takes 24 students, between the ages of 12 and 18, through the process of starting and launching a real business over the course of an academic year. By the end of the program, students own and operate fully-formed and functioning businesses, which may continue on after their graduation from the program. YEA! aims to teach students at an early age how to make a job, not just take a job.
Jeff Rubin, CEO of It’Sugar inspires the students with this entrepreneurial spirit
Business Partners to date for this year’s program are: FAU Adams Center for Entrepreneurship, FPL, NCCI, Bluegreen Vacations, Bloom & Freeling Attorneys at Law, First Citizens Bank, Florida Blue Foundation, SunTrust Foundation, Plastridge Insurance, Modernizing Medicine, Saint Andrew’s School, Minuteman Press Boca Raton and SCORE. Modernizing Medicine®, the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), a cloud-based specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system, announced today that it has received $14 million from Summit Partners, a global growth equity investor. Modernizing Medicine’s userfriendly EMA adapts to each healthcare provider’s unique style of practice and integrates seamlessly into the practice’s workflow, saving physicians and their staff time and increasing efficiencies. EMA’s cloud-based approach to collecting and storing patient information enables physicians to create, visualize and consume treatment data to better care for their patients with the EMA Network™ To put an end to texting and driving, AT&T launched the It Can Wait campaign. When it comes to texting and driving, the attitude of “do as I say, not as I do” widely persists. Today, more drivers than ever recognize the dangers of texting while driving, but continue to engage in this risky behavior. Originally introduced in 2009, the program aims to educate millions of wireless users, employees and the general public - particularly teens - about the dangers of texting while driving. The “No Text on Board” pledge has brought consumers, policymakers and companies together to help end this dangerous behavior.
