BY DR. STEVE TERAN
Each year, many of us travel to places far away and it has become very expensive to use our cell phones when out of the country. There is an app that works on both iPhone and Android devices called WhatsApp, and it provides simple, secure and reliable messaging for free. WhatsApp allows you to receive and send messages, images, audio and video. I have personally used this app from the Sinai Dessert in Israel, to as recent as yesterday to receive a call from Buenos Aires. The best part? It’s so easy to use! For example, you may click on the phone icon to make a call locally or internationally for free. You may also click on the video icon for a video chat. On the bottom left of the screen, you may click on the plus sign to send a photo or the camera icon on the bottom right to take a live photo. WhatsApp makes it easier for people around the world to keep in touch. As always, questions can be sent to me at pcmacpc@gmail.com or docsteve@gmail.com.

What’s New at Wycliffe? What a great time to live at Wycliffe. From the inside and outside of our Clubhouse, we are beginning to see and enjoy our beautiful, reimagined spaces. New challenges available in the Fitness Center followed by relaxing moments in the lovely Spa and a delicious meal in one of our “new” dining areas - a perfect Wycliffe day. We have a new Board of Directors. Leslie Gross, Bob Guarino, Jerry Kahan, Lee Kroll, Doug Lipman, John Mirenda, Brian Mirson, Murray Palent, Art Spector, Alan Van Praag and I will be working together this year to govern the newly merged One Wycliffe and reach the goals established in our Strategic Plan. Along with a new Board, we have new committees opportunities for members to interact with our department heads and contribute to the operation of Wycliffe. We’ve added new activities to our already rich list. Think back just five years - we didn’t have pickleball, bocce, a fishing club, a thespian group, a Sunday walking club or an Israel Club and now we do. We are an evolving club - growing with the interests of our members and the creativity of our staff. As we grow, there are some things we don’t want to change, and at the top of that list is the friendly, caring Wycliffe membership. When we analyze our strengths at Wycliffe, our membership always comes out on top. And it’s true! We are an active, philanthropic group that supports each other in ups and downs. Now is the time that some of us will be returning to homes up north, traveling, or just enjoying the “quiet time” at Wycliffe. All good wishes for a healthy, happy summer.

from the general manager
AS THE SPRING SEASON BEGINS,
many things are “blossoming” around the property. We are unveiling the Fitness Center, Spa and Salon, along with Callie’s Bake Shop this month. The Men’s Card Room will then be refurbished to clear the way for the final phase of the renovation, which involves the Lobby Lounge and new Restaurant. Exciting times to come as we approach our fall completion. We hope you have enjoyed the communications and video updates surrounding the project. Our firm commitment to finishing the job on time and on budget is well within reach. Here are a few other happenings as we gear up for another successful summer. As our seasonal staff head north for the summer, we cannot thank them enough for their amazing service and we hope to see them again this fall. For those members who stay on campus all year, the Food & Beverage team is gearing up to roll out summer happenings, including the Thursday Trio Dinner, Duck for Two, Sushi Night and many other specials for you to enjoy. Events like Comedy Night and Seafood Fest will keep our members engaged throughout the summer. The short game area renovation on West 17 begins mid-April, enabling you to have a true chip and pitch area for sharpening your game. This project was delayed from last year due to permit requirements and has since been approved to move forward. This new amenity will be an added value for current and prospective members alike. Our target date to unveil this area is the end of August. In closing, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with our team that has kept all services operational during this complex renovation. We are wrapping up one of our busiest seasons yet, even with part of our facilities being remodeled. New programming like the Steakhouse and Savor the Night dinners kept the membership engaged at a high level. All of this while not missing a beat in the operation with active Card Rooms, Restaurants and a vibrant energy surrounding the staff and membership. We are so excited to the see the fruits of our labor come to life with the project wrapping up later in the year. I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

Pickleball— it’s kind of a big dill. By Kam Kuchta, Director of Tennis

THINK ABOUT IT – IT HAS A FUNNY NAME, YOU SERVE UNDERHAND AND HIT SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A WIFFLE BALL. Regardless of the humor, a majority of tennis players that try Pickleball get hooked. In fact, Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America. The game can be dainty and slow, or it can be fierce and fast. Pickleball appeals to older adults due to its kindness to joints and bones. Unlike tennis, there’s not much running back and forth. Most players will play in doubles, so they can hit the ball within one to two steps. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry of America, reports show 43% of core players are 65 or older. A smaller court and slower balls make Pickleball a low-impact alternative to tennis. The court is short, about half the size of a tennis court and the net is hung low at 34 inches. It is played with wooden or graphite paddles and a light ball and there is a no volley zone called the kitchen. In Pickleball, strategy and finesse are more important than driving the ball hard. It is a game for all ages and skill levels as the rules are simple enough to be easily picked up after just a few games. Our members have been enjoying Pickleball for over a year and we couldn’t be more thrilled to now have an all-purpose court, which includes four Pickleball courts, a tennis hitting wall and a basketball hoop. Our programming for this sport will continue to grow with lessons, events and teams.
PICKLEBALL Don’t get overpowered. When playing pickleball, landing drop-shots in the kitchen area can dictate the pace K AM’S of the match. The more balls KORNER you land in the kitchen, the more you control the match. Join us on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 am for open play. This is a time for you to learn and have fun! If you are interested in a more competitive game, feel free to set up your own game or play in USPA Pickleball tournaments. So, relax and enjoy the recreation!

Hydrating and Anti-Aging Serums If you are truly looking to minimize the appearance of pores, consider a serum with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C or even small amounts of Retinol. Serums have a small molecular weight – meaning, they are formulated to reach the dermal layer of the skin. If the dermis is hydrated and full of nutrients, it will be easier for the epidermal layers to push out the impurities and keep skin looking fresh and healthy. Also, it will be less painful during the extraction phase of facials and will help remove deep congestion.
Toss
Pore Strips Enlarged pores and congestion are common problems and may worsen with age – regardless of the skin type you had in your early ’30s. Many will turn to pore strips to remove the oils and impurities that build up over time instead of scheduling regular facial appointments. Pore strips remove surface skin cells – mostly oil and dead skin. Even if you see all those little dark spots on the strip, it is not removing the deeper congestion and could cause future blackheads. To effectively remove oils, blackheads and impurities, the skin must be prepared and softened. Also, dead skin cells must be exfoliated and cleansed away so that a clean palette is available to truly remove blackheads. Make-up Wipes Make-up wipes seem like an easy skincare shortcut, but they have some side effects for your skin. First, not all the make-up, dirt or debris that accumulates on the skin throughout the day is removed. Dragging the wipe across the skin can cause make-up to go right back into the pores – especially if the wipe is not rinsed properly.
Exfoliants To remove dead skin cells or brighten the appearance of skin easily, the process of exfoliation should be completed two to three times per week. Harsh scrubs made with shell extracts or salt are not best suited for the sensitive skin of the face. Instead, enzymes or circular beads (jojoba preferably) are great for all skin types and will leave skin soft and smooth.
Sheet Masks Sheet masks have been the latest trend for not only celebrities but also for our members! The masks are designed to be easy to use and to give you that takehome spa feel that you truly enjoy. Depending on the brand and the purpose of the mask, a sheet mask will never compare to a professional treatment mask that you receive during a facial. Sheet masks are perfect for a girls night or traveling pick me up but should not be used as part of your weekly routine. Blotting Sheets Oily skin types are tempted to use blotting sheets to control the oily feeling on the skin but in fact these tiny sheets are stripping away your natural oils. Production of oil is essential to healthy skin so whenever a product is used that strips the natural oils, the oil glands start producing more oil and it becomes a vicious cycle. Also, using the sheets on top of make-up can cause the residue to be pushed back into the pores and then blemishes will be popping up.
We go through this process with almost everything in life – clothes, toys, shoes, handbags and skincare. If your spring cleaning is on the calendar, add the products on your vanity or cabinets to the list and you will be surprised at what you decide to keep, toss or donate. To help with spring cleaning, members may bring in any expired products and receive 15% off new collections through May 31. W YC LI F F E M AGA ZI N E

Fashionable &Functional! By Evelyn White, Merchandise Manager
Attending different shows throughout the year allows me to research and find some of the hottest trends that are both fashionable and functional! Below are a few of my favorites for both the Men and Ladies’ lines: SLIMSATION This is a great casual line of ladies’ bottoms, including: capris, shorts and ankle pants. I had them send me a pair as a sample and I immediately fell in love! You can toss them in the washer and dryer and with a flexible tummy control panel that smooths and slims your tummy, they make you look a size smaller! The Golf Shop features these bottoms in solids and print and our ladies love them! LUCKY IN LOVE also has matching performance jersey short-sleeve and long-sleeve tops to complete any look.
The SLIMSATION line matches the Sport Haley line, which is also one of our top sellers.
LUCKY IN LOVE
As the name implies, our ladies are in love with these skorts and tops that come in unique colors, patterns and styles. Their styles feature laser-cut border skorts and scallop pleating – both on trend and on point!

House Beautiful
Spring 2019 Homeowners Stuart & Susan Friedman 4211 Imperial Isle Drive
After living on the north side of Wycliffe for 13 years, we were looking to downsize. We found a wonderful home in Imperial Isle and decided to renovate in order to make this home exactly as we wanted.
BEFORE
We started by altering a wall between the kitchen and dining room and this allowed us to get a new spacious view. We completely gutted the kitchen, baths and floors and we couldn’t be more in love with the outcome! We hope to be able to enjoy many more years in our new Wycliffe home!
CALLING ALL HOME RENOVATORS Have you recently completed a major renovation in your home? Submit your before and after (high-resolution) photos to Taylor Griesen at t.griesen@wycliffecc.com for consideration in an upcoming issue.
