30 years! What a great time to celebrate Wycliffe. We can only guess at how many rounds of golf, how many tennis matches, how many dances, card games, dinners and friendships we’ve all enjoyed over these years. Like the Roman god of transitions, Janus, we can look back at what Wycliffe has been and forward to what it will become. Where were you 30 years ago? What is your story about coming to Wycliffe? Given the diversity of our membership, some of us were on the cusp of retirement, and some of us were just kids, others may have been choosing a brand new club… and then, there’s everything in between. Today, we celebrate our members, the early adapters, who loved the idea of a new community in the up and coming area of Wellington. They saw the bright future that was Wycliffe even before it was fully developed. The longer you’ve been here, the more you’ve seen the evolution of Wycliffe - the renovations of our clubhouse, golf courses and practice area; the new, merged governance model; a new restaurant and happy hour gathering place; the addition of bocce, pickleball and a host of member-inspired clubs. Each decade in Wycliffe’s history has offered more and better amenities. As we change and grow, we remain a welcoming and vibrant country club with a lifestyle that includes a commitment to friendships and community. We celebrate all that Wycliffe has become, all that we have enjoyed and look forward to a bright Wycliffe future.

General Manager Cheers to 30 years! I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible milestone achievements in the last several years. We merged the Club and HOA to bundle the community to better serve the members. We have completed an $18.2 million dollar renovation of our facilities on time and on budget. We have added new amenities like a short game facility at golf, pickleball and bocce. Last December, we adopted our second Strategic Plan for Wycliffe that spells out our vision, mission and core values, providing a clear road map for the future. Lastly, we are completing a very important initiative of re-branding the Club with fresh logos and renaming of spaces. Needless to say, we have many things to be proud of and celebrate this year as we hit our 30th Anniversary. Here’s to our best season yet! The Club has truly evolved over the years, whether it be the people (members and staff) or the facilities, but one thing has remained constant - A rich, vibrant culture that is apparent as soon as you step foot on the property. The people are welcoming and unpretentious, which happens to be one of our core values. With that being said, I look forward to taking us into the next 30 years with an amazing staff dedicated to servicing this unique membership. A Step Back in Time
A History of Wycliffe Golf & Country Club
WELLINGTON was once the “wild west” of South Florida, covered with produce farms and swampland. In the 1950s, Mr. C. Oliver Wellington bought 18,000 acres of central Palm Beach County, named it the “Flying Cow Ranch,” and opened the world’s largest strawberry patch. This parcel would eventually become the Village of Wellington and his ranch was the original site where Wycliffe Golf & Country Club sits today.

Years later, Entrepreneur, Harvey Geller settled on the remote, agricultural location of Lake Worth Road and the intersection of State Road 7 (Route 441). He envisioned building in the rapidly-growing locale between Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens. He understood the growing

demand for an upscale country club community with undulating golf courses, a tennis complex and a full-service clubhouse and was determined to create a thriving lifestyle destination. This was the vision for Wycliffe Golf & Country Club. Harvey Geller’s vision turned into a reality and the Wycliffe grand opening in 1989 exceeded all expectations. The first homes

were in the Andover, Barclay and Cambridge neighborhoods. Building continued until the club reached 1,045 residences in 14 neighborhoods! Wycliffe offers glorious weather with bright sunshine, lush, tropical florals, foliage and indigenous wildlife. Much of the curated lifestyle is served up on verdant green lawns with impeccable homes, crystal blue pools and a golf cart garage. Members and residents come from across the country in search of this distinctive style of living. When Wycliffe first opened, Route 441 (SR 7) was a two-lane highway surrounded by farms, many of which still exist today. From a place of humble beginnings and strawberry

dreams, this little town grew into a sprawling community that created new visions for everyone. Wellington has thrived beyond its roots as swampy backwater and is now home to the Winter Equestrian Festival and International Polo Club—both hosting more than four months of equestrian competitions, athleticism and artistry per year.

Branding The Road to Tomorrow
branding Brandin Brand WITH THE EVOLUTION OF A STATE-OF-THEART CLUBHOUSE AND AMENITIES, it was only fitting that the overall look and feel of the Wycliffe brand be assessed as well. A rebrand is a repositioning of a brand – just as a renovation repositions Wycliffe as a top contender in the country club arena.
We conducted a thorough search and enlisted the help of a local
branding agency. After several months of research – competitive analysis, reviewing the Strategic Plan, talking with Wycliffe
members, design consultants and our management team, the end result was a series of brand identity guidelines for all of our existing
and new amenities. With this new image, comes new life to an
existing brand that will help with increased sales and perceived
value for the community. A new younger, elevated and “current” emotion and visual image allows for current members to be proud and will also assist in attracting a new level of future neighbors.
While a brand is more than just a logo, we are proud to present to
you the first of many visual changes you will see in the relaunch of the Wycliffe brand.

What drew you to Wycliffe initially? We visited other clubs for lunch and golf but didn’t like them – too pretentious! But, there was a home that we fell in love with. We met the developer, Harvey Geller, and he told us that there was the same model being built in Wycliffe! We took a huge chance and bought a home in Exeter straight out of a sales trailer! What has kept you here all these years? People and staff and watching it grow has been truly exciting! We brought in 10 couples from both our Club up north as well as close friends. Even after my husband passed away one and a half years ago, I can’t help but know what I have here and I am very content! Describe one of your earliest, fondest memories of Wycliffe. For the first 15 years, you knew everyone! Making good friends and learning how to golf early on are some of my earliest, fondest memories. Mr. Weisberg started the 20 Grande Golf Group. If you could give advice to future generations on how to enjoy life to the fullest at Wycliffe, what would it be? There have been many changes throughout the years, and you may not always agree with them. But, the end result often takes away any criticism you may have had. Don’t be critical when something is projected. Favorite activities: Chair aerobics, Golf (hasn’t played in 6 months but plans to go back), Cards – Bridge, canasta, mah jongg, Clubs – Book Club.

I told my wife to find a new place where there were no cliques already formed. What has kept you here all these years? I loved it! If you are a golfer, there are two great golf courses and a wonderful pro-shop. The other amenities like tennis, pool, dining room and bar were a great attraction. Describe one of your earliest, fondest memories of Wycliffe. I met people that became close friends and we traveled the world with them. Our entire social life revolved around the Club. If you could give advice to future generations on how to enjoy life to the fullest at Wycliffe, what would it be? It is rare to find a facility that offers so much and a lifestyle that everyone can enjoy. Primarily golf, but the other activities like the dining room, entertainment for every enjoyment is available in one location. I have had friends and family visit throughout the years and they were always unbelievably impressed. What’s your name? Estelle Heller How long have you lived in Wycliffe? Full time – 27 years We built our home in Exeter in 1991 and moved here after retiring in July 1992 Where did you move from? A little town in North Jersey called Towaco. My husband, Stan and I were originally from Philadelphia. What drew you to Wycliffe initially? We were originally going to buy a house in Stonebridge which was a more established community. Wycliffe was being built by the same company. Friends suggested we take a look at the newer community and the rest is history! What has kept you here all these years? We loved it from the start. When my husband died about 8 years ago, I was lucky to bond with a wonderful circle of friends. With such fantastic support, life is very different but good. Describe one of your earliest, fondest memories of Wycliffe. The Florida lifestyle was much more formal in the early days. It was always fun dressing up for the formal opening and closing events. If you could give advice to future generations on how to enjoy life to the fullest at Wycliffe, what would it be? Try as many new activities as you can. It helps you expand your horizons and gives you the opportunity to meet wonderful people with similar interests.

Since November 1990. We were the 62nd home built in Wycliffe and one of the very first in Cambridge.

My husband had a golf cart and the fact that he could ride it to the golf courses drew us to Wycliffe. I loved the floral arrangements and the overall look of the Club. We fell in love and bought within five minutes!
Our friends from Akron found Wycliffe first and we followed several months later.
He ran the summer golf league and started the photography club and was on the board 2 times. What has kept you here all these years? All of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are in Florida. It is easy, convenient and the people and everything are pleasant. Describe one of your earliest, fondest memories of Wycliffe. All the people in the beginning went on a cruise and celebrated anniversaries together - everyone who married in ’53 celebrated. If you could give advice to future generations on how to enjoy life to the fullest at Wycliffe, what would it be? Just accept everyone as they are and do what you want to do. Live your own life!
What has kept you here all these years? Judy: While Michael immersed himself in politics of the Club, I joined groups, committees and became involved in charity work. For 15 years, I chaired the PBC Jewish Federation annual campaign. I also participated in fitness classes (even hosted my 70th birthday with a zumba and happy hour party with my friends), joined the 18-hole league and for the past five years, I have been the VP of the 9-hole golf league. Whenever I walk into the card rooms, fitness center, golf staging area, dining room, dance floor or anywhere on property, I am greeted with hugs and kisses from people who have become my extended family. What better way to start the day and celebrate life than living in Wycliffe? Michael: Friends and the membership in general. I served on the Wycliffe Board of Directors for nine years and was Wycliffe’s President for an unprecedented three years, from 2005-2008. During that time, we completed the first renovation, adding The Grille, Fitness Center, Spa and Tennis Stadium. I also served as President of the Cambridge Pod for the last 20 years. Everytime we go through the gates and drive down the

Royal Palm lined boulevard known as Wycliffe Country Club Blvd. we sense that we have come home. Wycliffe is our “forever home.” Describe one of your earliest, fondest memories of Wycliffe. Michael: Coming down for a vacation and some of the men that I played golf with told me to call them whenever I was going to be in town so they would be sure to put me in their game. They were my first golf group and they called themselves the “Twenty Grand” because you had to have a 20 or under handicap to be included. If you could give advice to future generations on how to enjoy life to the fullest at Wycliffe, what would it be? Judy: Walk up to a stranger in the card room, in a fitness class, or pair them at golf and say “hi, my name is Judy Fish! You must be new since I don’t remember seeing you before. Welcome to Wycliffe!” I have met some great new friends with those exact few words. Michael: Try everything and be willing to serve your community!
What’s your name? Don & Claire Dalstrom How long have you lived in Wycliffe? Almost 30 years Where did you move from? Coral Springs, FL What drew you to Wycliffe initially? The kids were out of the house and we wanted to downsize. We wanted a place to play golf and tennis and enjoy the gym and social activities. Wycliffe met all the requirements. I played the East course prior to purchasing a home and told my wife that it was a course that I wouldn’t tire of playing - this is still the case 29 years later. What has kept you here all these years? The people. We made many good friends and have played and traveled with them around the world over the years. We couldn’t have found a better place to retire. Describe one of your earliest, fondest memories of Wycliffe. Remembering the Club in 1989 and seeing what we have today! If you could give advice to future generations on how to enjoy life to the fullest at Wycliffe, what would it be? It’s been a great ride for us. What more could you want? All you have to do is take advantage of what’s here and enjoy a full and active life!

and, they told us! Jerry and I came to Wycliffe as Caregivers of my Poppa after we lost my mother. Wycliffe provided the safety, security, emergency services and all else we needed. The support from the staff was remarkable. It is thirteen years later and the wonderful reception we received is still here for us. We have befriended some incredible people. Wycliffe is a great place for those of all ages.

When we were looking for a winter rental in Florida, our friend Marty Ross told us about Wycliffe – a friendly place with great tennis and delicious food. Wycliffe exceeded our expectations. In the fall of 2013, we came to Florida seriously considering buying a home in Palm Beach County. After viewing several communities, we took a recommendation of a friend and member, and visited Wycliffe. My first impression was “subdued elegance.” The first house we entered on the North side met our every expectation! It was very exciting! Upon our arrival in October 2014, we became involved with club activities. I decided to go to the Brandeis, Pap Corps and Hadassah Opening Breakfasts and was invited to play mahjongg. Howard started playing tennis and golf. The welcome we felt was incredible! Marsha and I started coming to Florida in 1990 as snowbirds and rented in many of our competing clubs until we stumbled upon Wycliffe in 1995. After renting here for many years, we knew this country club suited us and we purchased a home in Barclay in 2005. I am an active participant in golf, stickball, bocce and pickleball. Making of the Band:
Arhythmyx The
IN THE ERA JUST AFTER WORLD WAR II and into the 1950’s many parents thought it would be a great idea to give their children a background in music, regardless of their income status. In spite of their normal resistance to regimentation and suggestions of their parents, a lot of that generation actually learned to play instruments. Sadly, many stopped learning in adolescence and did not renew interest for many, many years. Fast forward to 2014 where the story of the Arhythmyx begins...
Doug Lipman During a break in a tennis match, Doug announced that he started taking guitar lessons, encouraged by his children, who gave him a series of starter lessons for his birthday.
Richard Woolfe Richard’s ears perked up and he made plans to revive his long dormant 50 year-old guitar and do the same. Shortly thereafter, Richard and Doug began playing music together.
Susan Brenner Sometime afterwards, Susan, who plays both the guitar and piano, heard what they were doing and was invited to join in the music making. The group was thoroughly enjoyable as a trio, however, it was quickly realized that something was missing – there was no rhythm section.
Chuck Anello On a cruise with the Anello’s, Doug mentioned to Chuck what the trio was up to. Chuck had been a drummer many years ago and was eager to join.
Phil Kuwent (former Wycliffe Member) Once again at the tennis courts, Phil heard what the group was doing. Phil had been a trumpet player in the Catskills, but he too had abandoned his instrument 50 years prior. After much coercing, he agreed to wake up his long dormant talent, fix his old trumpet and join us.
Kathy Tuckel Another trumpet player with a strong musical background joined what now seemed to be turning into a full-fledged band. As a group of 6, they began practicing in the former Grande Lounge, every Tuesday evening, playing only instrumental pieces. As with anything, change is constant. The group decided that a piano (keyboard) would be beneficial, so Doug put aside the guitar and revived his decades old piano skills. Others quickly followed the lead and purchased new instruments.
It was decided that a bass guitar would better serve the group. The next revelation was that acoustic guitars were being drowned out so the switch to electrics was made.

Rob Wolfe
Everything happens in threes — the band welcomed high school tuba player, Burt Harris, college horn player, Bruce Schatz and clarinetist, Ed Goldstein.
As fate would have it, another new resident, Rob Wolfe, expressed an interest in joining the band after reviving his 50-year-old romance with his saxophone.
Requests to be heard by family and friends came flooding in and the band reluctantly agreed to an “Open Rehearsal” for about 25 invited guests. The group used the term “Open Rehearsal” as it would allow for any mistakes to be excused. The complimentary rehearsal was well received and at the next “Open Rehearsal” there were 50 in the audience.

Ivan Mann At the July 4th event in 2017, a new resident got up and asked if he could sing with the band. They agreed and he sang a rousing ‘50s song and they watched the audience applaud. Needless to say, he was invited to join the now burgeoning group that was in need of a vocalist. Now, with a vocalist, the band took a different turn with musical selections. At the next “Open Rehearsal,” in the former Grande Lounge, the audience swelled to standing room only with over 250 in attendance.
Resident photographer and videographer dusted off his accordion from college and joined in on the action rather than just photographing them. Our next performance was planned to be in the much larger Grande Dining Room and we felt like we needed a little more “oomph.”
Marge Goldner Insert the effervescent Marge Goldner! She sang “Hello Dolly” in her own inimitable way and it was a huge hit with the audience. In addition to the eclectic group of instruments, there were now two vocalists, a raised stage and a sound engineer — it worked! The audience for the first performance (and the several thereafter) in the Grande Dining Room was 400 strong!
Today, they are an 11-member group, performing songs from the ’20s to the ’70s and working on a separate folk song program. They meet yearround, have organizational meetings and the group is democratically run with no divas, prima donnas or self-important types. They are supportive of each other and work cohesively and play music they like while remaining mindful of the audience for which they play. They try to constantly improve and add new songs to their repertoire in addition to those which have become fan favorites. The most important objective of this group is FUN for the members and the audience. They are grateful for the support of both the audience and, of course, Wycliffe management.
And now for the name. Choosing a name was extremely difficult but in the end, they found the perfect one! The Arhythmyx, is a parody on the word arrhythmia. So, there you have it —
the making of the band!
