Dear Premier Club Members, AS WE START A NEW DECADE and approach our 100th anniversary, I’m reflecting on everything the Resort & Club has meant to Members over the years. We have certainly changed and grown with the times, adding innovative programs and modernizing services and amenities, but at the same time we’ve managed to maintain our essential character and sense of heritage. Striking that balance has been the key to our longevity and success, and our future looks brighter than ever. I’m excited about the decade ahead, and would like to share just a few of our planned initiatives for 2020: • Enhance and broaden our Artist-in-Residence partnerships. Each Artist is a top-tier talent in their discipline, whether it’s visual artistry, music, fashion, club sports, culinary arts or winemaking. This year’s roster of Artists in Residence includes Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, Stags Leap Winemaker Christophe Paubert as well as the return of PGA and LPGA Master Professional Kellie Stenzel, three-time Grand Slam Mixed Doubles Champion John Lloyd, and more to be announced. • Expand our mind-and-body wellness program. We will add fitness pop-ins such as Sunrise Spin Classes on the 501 Patio and Pound classes on the Croquet Lawn. We will also debut a new Hydrow Studio featuring Hydrow Rowers that “bring the river to you” using world-class technology. With the relocation of our Orangetheory studio to the Main Resort Health Club, Members can enjoy additional class times as well as studio access outside of class times. • Assist our beloved Boca Raton in realizing its destiny as one of the most – if not the most – prestigious destinations in the country. Our ongoing contributions include civic participation, cause-related activities and funding, and of course, a commitment to making the Club the nation’s most exceptional and innovative resort experience. ERYN REECE Head Bartender of Banzarbar New York City January 17 and 18 | Monkey Bar
Eryn Reece moved to New York City in 2007 to be part of the cocktail scene. She worked her way up the ranks at Bar Milano and Mayahuel, followed by a four-year tenure as head bartender at world renowned Death & Company. Eryn is excited to raise awareness for female bartenders, and is a founding member and secretary of LUPEC NYC, and a Dames Hall of Fame Inductee by Tales of the Cocktail. Eryn is Speed Rack National champion and has been featured in numerous publications, including Imbibe, New York Times, and Cosmopolitan. BANZARBAR is a twenty-seat cocktail bar that was inspired by early 20th Century explorers and the BANZARE Antarctic expeditions. During her takeover she will stir up cocktails featuring BANZARBAR’s signature exotic ingredients from world travels.

YEAR’S FITNESS RESOLUTIONS By Giovanni Roselli
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN where many of us want to press the reset button on our health and wellness. What I’d like to take the time to do this month is offer some practical, simple advice and go through some fundamentals for you to keep in mind. As a certified Precision Nutrition Coach, below are some basic guidelines that we use with clients. • Do one thing at a time. Sounds simple and logical, but one of the biggest downfalls of individuals is putting too much on their plate (pun intended!). Saying that you are going to start doing cardio 3 days a week, adding 5 servings of vegetables every day, cutting out all alcohol, and starting with a personal trainer all sounds great. But realistically this type of 0 to 100 mentality very rarely works, or sticks. Pick just one thing that you can start with and nail it. • Eat a variety of real, whole, unprocessed foods that add value to your body. Yes, the whole “organic” thing really matters, and if an item can stay on the shelf of a grocery counter for 6 months, it’s probably wise to stay away from it. • Be consistent and “pretty good” every day, rather than alternating wildly between rigid or “perfect” eating and uncontrolled or chaotic eating. It’s this type of yo-yoing that causes constant fluctuations where someone will never be able to get a true, firm handle on their health. Life happens and gets in the way sometimes. Additionally, just because the event you attend may have an unlimited amount of alcohol and fried foods doesn’t mean you have to be ravenous about it. • Commit to doing a habit consistently for at least 2 weeks before making any changes, to determine how habits are working for you. Prove to yourself and your body that you can consistently do something for at least two weeks before adding something else on top of that. Change that lasts is change that is gradual. • Your body reflects what you put into it (food, recovery), and take out of it (activity, stress). Yes, in a way we certainty are what we eat. You can tell how someone eats just by how his or her skin looks. You can tell how mobile someone is by how they get up and down out of a chair. • Make decisions based on data and close observation of yourself, not “rules” or someone else’s ideas. It really doesn’t matter that a specific nutritional plan worked for a friend or family member, it may not work the same for you. Finding out what works for you comes with experimentation. Additionally, simply being truly mindful of how certain foods and activities make you feel can actually go a long way.

No reinventing of the wheel with any of these points. That’s because at the end of the day, simple is the best way to go. Once simple objectives are met and understood, it is much easier to move forward. Then you can start getting a little more complex and creative with things. The same can be said for running a business. For all of us, our body is our business and you can’t switch to another company! All you can do is create the most realistic business plan possible for yourself, without getting overwhelmed. Remember, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. So will this year really be “New Year, New You” or simply “Same Old Story?!” Bottom line: you’ll get better results – and have more fun – working with one of the experienced trainers at the Resort & Club. Practice with a purpose! So often I see golfers practice on the range by rapidly firing golf balls! Not only is this bad technique, but it can be detrimental to your body. Instead, pretend you are actually playing a hole, set boundaries for your drive (keep the shot in between specific targets such as flags on the range), select a target green and use that as your approach shot. If you miss the green, hit a chip to a specific spot on the range. Continue this process for all 18 holes! The main idea with this is to get creative with your practice and hone your visualization skills. You will be surprised how much this will improve your game on the course!
