Hidden Logo Design Elements

In its 60th year, Baskin Robbins rolled out this new brand logo. Anyone see the hidden design element in the new, jazzy Baskin Robbins logo?

Ambigrams -By Sunny P.

This image is an example of a Symmetrical rotational ambigram. It reads “Virtual Reality” normally and when seen upside down. Tip: To make such ambigrams write the word separately, normally and upside down and try to overlap the words written. Ex: To make ambigram of “mom” the words would be “mom” and “wow”. Now overlap them and remove the redundant curves.

Here's a clue ... what is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Baskin Robbins? Okay, ice cream, sure-but what else? So the answer is: Can you see the famous 31 number hidden in the logo. That’s to identify 31 flavours of Baskin Robbins ©2008 Team bodhiverse. Bodh-e-verse July 2008 Alfa issue.

When Technology meets Entertainment The impact of digital technology on Hollywood has been gradual but allencompassing. Today, a movie can be shot, edited and distributed — from camera to theater and beyond — without involving a single frame of film. The transformation is at least as sweeping as the introduction of sound or color in the early 20th century, and it is changing both the business and the art form of cinema. Measure of Love The value of a person to another depends, On the effect of one’s tears on the other. For, the value of a tear depends, On the cheek upon which it rests. For a stranger, you’d only feel curiosity, For an acquaintance. perhaps sympathy, A friend, you’d hold while he cried and Wipe the fallen tears and comfort him. For your love, you’d wish to change the world, To prevent them from falling from those eyes. To know how much you love someone, Think of how much his tears bother you. To what lengths would you go, To stop those drops from falling? That’s just how much you love. By malavik thiagaraja (Bangalore)

It is the things in common that make relationships enjoyable, but it is the little differences that make them interesting. Todd Ruthman

short story

By Ritoparna Ray

Fifty (50) It was the biggest day of her life. People she loved the most in her life were present all around her. Her “home sweet home” was filled with bursts of laughter, smiles, shouts and above all, happiness. God has showered her with all the happiness on that day. She thanked God for this day. She was happy to see everyone happy. It was her inborn nature to make everyone happy. Amidst the crowd, her eyes fell on that person whom she loved the most. To whom she never said “I love you”, but they both knew they loved each other and cared for each other and they cannot live without each other. Her mind shifted to the

first day she met him. She was 18, he was 28. She was 5 feet, he was 6.1 feet. She only saw his photo before meeting him on their wedding day. Arranged marriage brought these two souls together. Born and brought up in the cold city of

Darjeeling, her thoughts were modern with respect to the rich Zamindar family to which she was married. But, to her surprise, she

found her husband to have modern thoughts quite contradicting his family. Brought up in that family, he was disgusted by the narrow mindedness of his family. His modern thoughts were a result of staying in London for 5 years for doing Civil Engineering. Coming back to India, he wanted to marry an educated girl. She did a matriculation in those days where girls left school after class IV and got married at an average age of 10. And that was the wonderful beginning of two lives together, two persons who were so different, yet fated to walk the rest of their lives together. Through the years, she found him to be a very generous person, good at heart, who saw her pain, helped her in making decisions about their children and helped others too in whatever manner he can. They never knew

Fifty (50) when they became dependent on each other. She managed fine to bring up her four daughters and managing household, marrying them off to good persons. Coincidentally, all her sons-in-law were engineers!!! She was the happiest person when she held her first grand-daughter in her arms. As time passed, she was very happy to see her family growing as the number of grand-children to this day is six. “Dua.. Dua.... Can you give me some more icecream? Ma is not giving me. Startled, she looked around. Her youngest grand-daughter was holding her hands and calling her. She at once gave the kid another bowl of ice-

cream. She realized she was standing amidst all her children and grand-children waiting for her & her beloved to cut the cake. All were congratulating her. And why not? It was a day to celebrate... her 50th Anniversary.... She again thanked the good Lord for granting her this day...She spent 50 years with a person she loves. Not every girl is as lucky as her, not every girl can adjust like her, not every girl can sacrifice her happiness to see someone else happy, not every girl is as good a human being as her.... Not every grandma is like her... She is the best grand-ma of the world.... I was only 4 years of age when she celebrated her 50th Anniversary... I was her youngest grand-daughter....

now, I can feel the happiness she would have felt when she was celebrating her 50th Anniversary.

Is it really Love?? Or something else?? Love is the difficult “At one point of time in our lives, most of us have searched for answers to questions like: Is she/he the one I can spend the rest of my life with? Many of us fall in relationships and without giving much time to the relation, we get ready to commi t and start believing that he/she is the one. But I bet that many such pre-mature decisions take a very serious turn later on and the reason is that we forget to understand that falling in love and love are two different things; Love and Marriage are two different concepts. Falling in love can be either a flash of emotions or a first step

realization that something other than oneself is real” towards love. Falling in love is a strong instinctive attraction to the person of the `````` other sex. In case it’s mutual and both lovers will work at their relationships one day that feeling can grow into love. Falling in love is crazy, it’s when knees are getting weak and temperature rises, love is calm, comfortable and mental. Usually if you ask yourself “am I in love?’ it means you’re not, because when you’re fallen in love you already have no questions, this feeling is to obvious to leave any doubts. So it’s more reasonable to count the consequences of it than to

bY BodhGuru,Pune - Iris Murdoch

look for the signs. We usually fall in love with the appearance of the person, with the way he/she walks, the way he/she talks. When in relationship, some couples continue their relationships and get married in the end but some fall apart. Today, all one can think of is his/her partner’s care and generosity. But this doesn’t ensure long term happiness. This behavior will not remain the same forever. Sometime people regret their decision of getting married too early without giving the relationship proper time. People today are extremely emotional and this trait clouds our judgment. It is very important that we take

©2008 Team bodhiverse. Bodh-e-verse July 2008 Alfa issue.

time to understand ourselves and the relation and not make a mistake. With time things change, they won’t remain like that forever. In our culture, we strongly believe in the institution of marriage. The problem is love and marriages are two different things. Marriage is a social arrangement that requires practicality. It is about being a part of the society. It is about raising children and changing nappies; about earning money and social status and focusing on mundane things like food, servants and relatives. Do we really think about it when we decide we want to spend the rest of our life with some person? Many people don’t! Falling in love is easy but being is love is very difficult. One should go ahead only when

he/she has thought about all these in a practical sense. It’s not about caste, it’s not about religion, it’s not even about your family; it’s about you. If you are sure you can have a successful relation than you surely will but this confident feeling should not be the result of infatuation, need or hurry. Be sure it’s real love! In most cases we think: this is true love, when in fact it’s not. But then if this isn’t love than what it is? There are plenty of things that we confuse with love.It could be just the basic instinct. But than what does real love look and feel like? Maybe it’s when two people seem to know each other for ages and even in their previous lives. No! True love is when partners complete one another, when they’re together it’s peaceful, the whole other world with it’s

sufferings and problems doesn’t exist and nothing even matters. True love means understanding. One trusts another more than him/herself and feels ready to satisfy every little need of a partner. But the question that true love is still has no definite answer. Do we truly love only once in our life? Does it last for a lifetime or just for a while? Probably everyone has his own answers to these questions. The truth is that no one should spend life chasing ideals or building relationships by some model of a true love. One will probably fail and miss the real thing beyond all this. We should remember that only the true feeling of love makes life really longer and happier. And this is a fact!

You have a gun Because I am hungry You have a gun Therefore I am hungry You can have a gun You can have a thousand bullets and even another thousand You can waste them all on my poor body You can kill me one, two, three, two thousand, seven thousand times But in the long run I will always be better armed than you If you have a gun And I Only hunger.

WHO was Otto Rene Castillo ?

Otto’s poetry You have a gun And I am hungry

Otto René Castillo (1934 – 1967) was a Guatemalan poet and revolutionary. The early to mid-1960s saw the publication of the only two volumes of work put into print during Castillo's lifetime, Poema Tecún Umán and Vámonos patria a caminar. In 1966, he clandestinely returned to Guatemala and joined the guerrilla struggle with the Rebel Armed Forces, where he served as the chief of propaganda and education. After operating in the Sierra de las Minas for several months, he was captured by government forces and taken to Zacapa barracks alongside his comrade, Nora Paíz Cárcamo in March 1967. There they were interrogated, tortured, and immolated.

Book Shelf

Khaled Hosseini’s book ‘The kite runner’ has made a great impact on readers all over the world. I finally picked up the book at my library a few weeks back. And when I finished the book a few days later, I sat and thought about it a lot. The story is set in Kabul. The main character – Amir is the son of a wealthy Afghan businessman. Ali is their servant who lives with them with his son Hassan. Hassan and Amir are inseparable friends. Hassan is the ultimate Kite Runner – someone who rushes to catch the losing kites as they flutter to the ground when their strings are cut by the others. When Amir wins the Kite flying competition, Hassan runs the losing kite for him. However, he is confronted by Aseef – a bully who takes pleasure in harassing the two friends at every

opportunity. Amir, who goes looking for Hassan witnesses a horrifying incident but does nothing to prevent it. The political atmosphere changes in Afghanistan with the removal of the king and it is a dangerous time in Kabul. Amir and his father decide to leave to Pakistan. Eventually they find their way to the USA where they form a part of the small Afghan community. Amir grows up to be a writer and marries. Years pass by and out of the blue, Amir’s father’s friend – Rahim Khan asks Amir to come and meet him in Pakistan. When they meet, Amir learns of a shocking truth. He struggles with dealing with it – his impressions of several people changing in one instant. What Rahim Khan gives him is a chance -

one go at making amends for more than one sin. It is a chance that he can not let go of and one that will not return. This time, Amir chooses the difficult but right path. His journey back to Afghanistan is a journey into his past. What he does there forms the rest of the story. Amir’s character is wonderfully complex – it shows those shades of grey that we see in ourselves. Neither God nor the devil. Confused. Scared. Guilty. Insecure. Blundering through life, hoping things would turn out ok. Everything to do with being a human in this world. Pick up a copy and try it, if you already haven’t. You won’t regret it. There is a bit of Amir in all of us.

The Madrid Protocol was signed in 1991 by the signatories to the Antarctic Treaty banning mining, this is up for review in 2041. The Madrid Protocol became law in January 1998, it sets out the principles under which environmental protection in Antarctica is to be regulated. This includes a ban on all commercial mining for at least fifty years. Though it might sound like an impressive piece of regulatory legislation, it was quite clear before it became law that

there was no real commercial explortion in Antarctica for the foreseeable future. Environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, OBE; the first person in history to walk to both the North and South poles has started a voyage on his yacht. The aim of the voyage is to travel the whole world and conduct a lecture series to spread the awareness. The voyage plans to come to India in 2011. And it plans to visit ports of Mumbai and Calcutta.

Antarctica facts It has been estimated that during the feeding season in Antarctica, a full grown blue whale eats about 4 million krill per day that's 3600 kg or 4 tons every day for 6 months.

Snow falling at the South Pole takes about 100000 years to "flow" to the coast of Antarctica before it drops off the end as part of an iceberg. In 1981 a swarm of krill was tracked by US scientists that was estimated at being up to 10 million tonnes of krill!!!!! This is the equivalent of about 143 million people .
