BODYMIND LIVING AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT :: LAURA WIECK
Why is it BodyMind?
“O
ne of the questions I get all the time when people come into my work is ‘
why is it BodyMind?’ Why not MindBody? What does the body come first,
and why is it one word?
I’d like for you to have a clear idea of what this means. First and foremost let’s talk about physiologically, because resting at the base of your pelvic bowl, is a brain. You actually have a brain resting in your body. That brain is called the enteric nervous system, and when it was first discovered they called it the second brain because it has so many similarities to the brain in the head. It produces 95% of your serotonin, 50% of your dopamine, and more importantly the information that your body is collecting which is a million times more than your logical thinking brain is being collected and sent up to the head via the vagus nerve. 80–90% of the information traveling along the vagus nerve is going from your body to your brain!” —Laura Wieck
