On Love & Communication To love and be loved is to fulfill the most primary emotion we have as beings. It’s an emotion shared between spouses and within families – with our children, friends, and even with our family pet. Who loves you more (without rules) than your dog or cat? So why do people have so many problems in relationships, especially with the people they love the most? Many experts believe that it’s about communication – or lack of communication rather than a lack of caring.

Patients often ask me for help with relationships that are having an undesirable influence on their health. Since good relationships are healthy for us – and health is my area of expertise – I want to share some things I’ve learned throughout the years along with the basic concepts from a best-selling book that recently caught my attention.

The highly acclaimed marriage counselor Dr. Gary D. Chapman wrote, “The Five Love Languages,” a hands-on book filled with case scenarios. Several years ago, I received this book as a gift but at the time I only glanced through it. When I took a closer look, I realized that the ideas contained in this small, easy to read book were worthy of presenting at this year’s Valentine’s Day workshop on February 14th. In fact, Dr. Chapman credits these very simple, straightforward concepts for transforming a great number of relationships.

According to Dr. Chapman, whirlwind romances either change into a constant balmy breeze – or an arctic blast.

Brrrr!!!! However, the difference between these two drastically different outcomes has less to do with the compatibility of the couples involved than their ability, or shall we say inability, to understand and interpret each other’s needs. Many great relationships disintegrate when partners are unable to effectively communicate their own needs and/or are unable to decipher the needs of their partner.

Another important term introduced in the book is what’s called, “an emotional love tank.” Love tanks are important

because if you want to be really happy in a relationship, these tanks need to stay full! An emotional love tank in a relationship is analogous to the gas tank in a car. If the gas tank is empty, we can’t expect the car to run. If it’s on the low side, we know it’s time to fill up soon. All relationships benefit from doing the things that fill up the emotional love tanks of those we care about.

There are five specific languages of love described in the book in detail. They include: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch.

The first love language, Words of Affirmation, has to do with complimenting one another. For most people, a kind word of appreciation goes a long way. For some of us with European backgrounds, this is harder because the thought process was that if you’re not being reprimanded then you’re doing ok. This isn’t a good plan; you’ll be farther ahead in your relationships to let significant others know they are appreciated.

The second love language, Quality Time, means that when you’re with someone, make sure you are actually with them. For guys, this means that if the television is on, don’t pretend to hold a conversation and watch at the same time.

People may not say it but they are offended when something else takes attention away from them when they are trying to communicate with you.

The third love language is Receiving Gifts. I personally love getting little wrapped-up gifts that don’t have to be extravagant, just well-meant. For example, even a thoughtful, handwritten note on a scrap of paper is a gift that may be cherished and appreciated for years to come. Children love giving little things they have made, and girls of every age seem to universally love getting flowers. These are little things with big rewards that feed the heart.

The forth love language is Acts of Service which is about doing something for someone else. It may be your job to take out the trash, wash the dishes or vacuum, but when someone else steps up and does it for you, it’s a pleasant surprise that can do more than you could ever imagine – especially if this is their love language. Remember, it may not be what’s important to you but it’s not about you; you’re filling their emotional love tank.

The fifth love language is Physical Touch. As social beings, we require various amounts of physical touch. Touch exchanges energy between beings which is very important because it’s one of the ways we keep each other healthy.

Most people are happy with appropriate touch between one another and as with all things this varies according to whether we’re talking about significant others, children, or friends.

Dr. Chapman’s book is a must read to understand this most important and basic of needs, which is to feel loved.

An additional aspect of understanding the five love languages relates to priorities. When we figure out and respond to the love languages that are most important to our loved ones, we help them feel loved in a very personal way. For example, the husband may prefer a back scratch (Physical Touch) while his wife may prefer help with the dishes (Acts of Service). While attention given to each other through any of the five love languages shows love, paying attention to what they want most is even better!

Another expert in relationships is American philosopher Hubbard. He explains how affinity for one another depends on the ability to fully communicate on subjects where you have agreements, known as shared reality. Letting Yourself Be Loved What will you allow into your life? You only receive the love you think you deserve. Believing you must chase, earn, make it happen or figure out ‘how’ you will get what you need, is painful.

Life will match your beliefs about yourself. Love is: prosperity, God, beauty, joy, romance, compassion, service and so much more. Love is a dynamic energy that wants to flow into you, and as you. But, this flow starts with you letting it in, through your own self acceptance. Trying to ‘attract’ what you need implies this good is somehow something outside that you must bring to you.

I believe the key to enlightenment or authentic happiness is allowing your needs to be met, without judgment. I did not say ‘demanding’ your needs to be met or trying to ‘attract’ your needs. All of Creation has already formed your every desire in the energetic potential. Whatever you feel you need is already near you, because God cannot break itself up into parts. All that is God or Creation can be found in a flower, a moment, or in your face.

Love all that is you. Your mistakes and self criticisms are only real on a mental level. Nothing can be separate from Love or God. Like children playing war on a playground, your challenges teach you about yourself, but they cannot change who you are. You remain the same creational love that you were created to be. The masks, roles and tasks you now let define you, are temporary.

You will simply know it was a ‘want’ instead of ‘need’ by how you feel once you receive it. If you get what you think you need and you are sad, then it was a ‘want’; no big deal. Don’t judge yourself, this only leads to holding onto something you don’t want.

Life wants to love you, through people. Your Ego will tell you that you have to do it all on your own. Isolation and separation are tricks of the Ego. Believing you have to live life and do your growth on your own will keep you stuck. You do have to make the choice to take full responsibility for happiness. This choice means self awareness (being aware of your thoughts, underlying beliefs, and unhealed wounds.) Choosing to be self aware is a huge awesome choice, however once you make this choice, it is wise, not weak, to let people, life, and the angels support you.

You do not ‘make’ your healing happen. Surrender or self acceptance is the foundation in which a greater ‘you’ is realized.

The true ‘why’ or insight, only comes after you let go, or accept.

Awareness-acceptance-compassionate witnessing, heals.

Instead of making your thoughts/feelings, ‘good’ or ‘bad’, or analyzing...just witness. Any insight you receive prior to letting go is usually at the level of the mind and does not give you a profound sense of inner peace. If you began by analyzing, you stay at the consciousness in which the problem is formed. Once

you let go and receive the ‘ah-ha’ then use your mind to apply and integrate the new understandings into your life.

You only hold on to what you are identified as. Witnessing or loving your perceived unlovabilites shifts your identity into the next level of the Love you are. This is why it can be so hard to let go of the story, emotion or pain that is creating suffering within. Self acceptance and surrender becomes a pertinent first step to letting go of what you think is you. Self acceptance is practiced faith, because it takes great courage to let go to a greater awareness of Love. Self acceptance is powerful in allowing the life you want to be living and it is the spiritual warrior who is willing to be self aware.

Take responsibility, admit what’s there, and THEN allow support. Just as you can’t direct your heart to beat, your realization or healing is directed and supported by Creation. Once you make the powerful inner choice of self responsibility (self awareness) then let all of Life love you. You are not meant to do it on your own. People, angels, animals, and synchronicity seek to support, validate and nourish you, into a greater you.

You can grow from love, and gentleness. It doesn’t have to be hard. There is nothing to ‘prove’ by charging forward, not asking for help, and trying to figure it all out on your own. Let people in, ask someone you admire for advice, and learn to lean on the support that is waiting for you.

Mahatma Gandhi had a prayer he would say to everyone; “I offer you Love, I offer you Peace. I see your beauty. I hear your needs.” What you need is important. The plate of cookies may be serving you in the moment. Be aware, that it may be giving you the comfort you are unable to allow in, in other ways.

Bless and thank the plate of cookies. What you judge, YOU WILL hold onto, and do again. Love will not make you weak. If you consciously bless what is serving you in the moment, you bring love to your very core. Doing this allows you to let go of the action or behavior when it does not serve you any longer.

What you accept releases, but what you judge/resist persists.

By blessing the behavior, you shift your consciousness. You can change the behavior, quit the action, or force yourself to not need what you actually need in the moment. Just modify the February 2013

behavior or need, and I believe you miss the inner growth. By courageously accepting or blessing the behavior or need, you actually receive a conscious expansion into a greater you.

Allow your needs to be met without judgment and you will awaken to the Love you are. In allowing your needs to be met, you will realize you ‘have no needs’, because all your needs are always met by YOU allowing them.

You are dynamic perfection! You are perfection waking up to greater perfection. “Lessons” or challenges are expanding you into greater awareness of your already present perfection.

Life will MATCH how you feel about yourself! Always... Knowing this law; ACCEPTING THE AWESOME LOVABLE PERSON YOU ARE right now, becomes a logical decision and something to cultivate in your awareness. You are loved! You are love! You are awesome and waking up to that more and more everyday through both the trials and joy life brings! HOW MUCH love are you willing to allow in? It is not about attracting, but simply allowing. Allow love in. Accept your magnificence now, and you allow all the facets of life to love you. Let yourself be loved dear one. Let the sunshine, your friend, or a warm cup of tea, love you. You are loved. You are loved. You ARE loved. I hope one day to have the honor to love you, into a greater you.

In a convent in Ireland, the 98-year-old Mother Superior lay dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her last journey comfortable. They tried giving her warm milk to drink but she refused it.

One of the nuns took the glass back to the kitchen. Then, remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey that had been received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened it and poured a generous amount into the warm milk.

Back at Mother Superior’s bed, they held the glass to her lips. The frail nun drank a little, then a little more and before they knew it, she had finished the whole glass down to the last drop. As her eyes brightened, the nuns thought it would be a good opportunity to have one last talk with their spiritual leader..

“Mother,” the nuns asked earnestly, “Please give us some of your wisdom before you leave us.”

She raised herself up in bed on one elbow, looked at them and said: “DON’T SELL THAT COW.” February 2013

Saint Valentine’s Day Commonly known as Valentine’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Valentine is observed on February 14 each year.

Today Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, mostly in the West, although it remains a working day in many of them.

St. Valentine’s Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus.

The most popular martyrology associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote “from your Valentine” as a farewell to her.

Today, Saint Valentine’s Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion, as well as in the Lutheran Church.

The Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrates Saint Valentine’s Day, albeit on July 6th and July 30th, the former date in honor of the Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and the latter date in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna.

The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. By the 15th century, it had evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”).

Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

Translation Around 1966, a NASA team doing work for the Apollo moon mission took several astronauts to a site near Tuba City where the terrain of the Navajo Reservation was believed to be similar to the lunar surface.

Along with several NASA trucks and vehicles used for the training session, there were two men wearing complete Lunar spacesuits.

Nearby a Navajo sheep herder and his son watched what they thought were two strange creatures walking around. Before long, some NASA personnel noticed the sheep herder with his son and decided to speak with them. Since the sheep herder didn’t speak English, he told his son to ask the NASA personnel what the strange creatures were. The NASA people quickly explained that they were not foreign creatures, but they were just men in space-suits preparing for a voyage to the moon.

The boy explained this to his father, who suddenly became very excited. The man spoke to his son, and the son explained that his father wanted to know if he could send a message to the moon with the astronauts. The NASA personnel thought this was a great idea, so they found a tape recorder and recorded the sheep herder’s message in Navajo. When they finished recording, they asked the son to translate the it. The boy refused.

Later as the training session was coming to an end, the NASA personnel were eager to learn what words of wisdom a Navajo sheep herder would want to send to the moon. They tried asking several people on the reservation to translate the message, but every person they asked would hear the message, chuckle and refuse.

After dozens of people refused, the NASA personnel decided to offer money for a translation of the message, and finally they found someone to do it.

The translator listened to the tape recording, smiled to himself and then spoke the message in English: “Watch out, they come to take your land.” ☺

February 2nd lies half way between the Winter Solstice (the longest night of the year) and the Spring Equinox (when nights and days are equal). On this date Celtic traditions celebrate Imbolc a festival which recognizes that unseen beneath the snow and ice of winter, spring has already begun. If you go outside and use your higher senses, you will be able to identify an emerging aliveness stirring beneath the death of winter from this date forward. I love that! Winter feels like it rules, but spring has already gained the upper hand, all unseen but powerful.

Being one who perceives energy, it is a pleasure and a privilege to observe this change within people and our planet.

The new world energy rises up from below and it has a sugary texture and an opalescent quality to it, reminding me of sunlight on snow but more silvery.

You can feel it as something very alive and joyous and new. It feels true and conscious and part of God and all of life.

Like with the end of winter, the end of the old world energies is inevitable; the old contracts ended with the arrival of 2013. The old ways of doing things will dissolve like the snow, in their own way and time. What is coming to take their place is an energy more in keeping with our higher and eternal nature. Although the forms of the new world are still

invisible, there are certain elements of the new world which we can be confident of. One very important element is that the world and our personal bodies and souls are rising in vibration to be able to hold higher consciousness; divine consciousness. From that awareness we can presume that the world which higher consciousness will build through these lives of ours can’t help but be better than the one we have been living in to date!

I receive hints of what is to come in my meditations and planetary healing work.

One big change, which I have been repeatedly shown coming, is the end of the need for money. I am very happy about that change, which I have been told will occur over the next 20 years.

However, it is hard to imagine how that change will come about. I believe it has to do with partnering with God within our bodies and souls. Through that partnership, as the need arises, I believe we will create what we need out of the substance of reality without taking and doing damage from other lives as we have had to do up until now. We will increasingly work in cooperation with the awakening God consciousness within all life forms and what is done will support the overall good, rather than taking from one to give to another. I love these visions of the future and I feel the truth of them, and yet it seems a long step from here to get there! I am excited to see how it comes about!

Change often inspires fear in the hearts of people. Faith is a deliberate choice, and we each have to find it within ourselves in our own way. You can seek it within your own heart in response to the fear or anxiety that you feel. It is not necessary to suppress fear, but rather to bring God, by whatever name you call that One into the place where the fear is and welcome the transformation from fear into love and truth. Like the energy of spring arising within the appearance of winter, the love and truth is present but sometimes, invisible. So much in the outer sense says the old February 2013

world has control, but underneath the new is growing stronger. Let the new world energy be born inside of you.

Make room for it and exercise faith by letting your aspect of God be there as a presence of love and truth at the core of your days and nights. Wait for the signs of the new world springing up into your soul and your life. It is a miracle just as the melting of ice and snow and the emergence of the first snowdrops and crocuses of spring. Its beauty will be all the greater for the winter of the old world we have struggled through to get there.

God’s Whisper The woman whispered, “God, speak to me” and a meadowlark sang.

But, the woman did not hear.

So the woman yelled, “God, speak to me” and the thunder rolled across the sky.

But, the woman did not listen.

The woman looked around and said, “God let me see you.”

The Power of StrengthBe Strong Strength is not simply a physical quality. As with all the Twelve Powers, it expresses itself on three levels, each one complementing the others in this life expression on the earth plane.

In the physical realm, strength is vitality, endurance, the ability to persist. In the mental area of expression, strength is that quality of mind which enables one to lead, to accomplish, to follow through on decisions, to establish purposes in life, and to hold firm to spiritual principles in daily living. It expresses itself as stability of character.

The highest expression, and the one that should determine the direction of strength in the other realms, is the spiritual realization of this quality. Here strength is closely allied with Faith. In the symbology of the 12 disciples and the 12 qualities of mind that we are to develop as Jesus encouraged and developed his closest followers, strength and Faith are represented by the brothers Andrew and Peter.

Peter must be the first of our qualities to be unfolded in a spiritual way, because without Faith there is no impetus to action and no foundation for a program of spiritual growth. Faith also is our innate ability to see the unseen, plus the desire to persist in order to bring it forth. But Faith has to be established in strength. The “two brothers” must grow together, both under the loving direction of our own Christ nature, the “perfect human” idea within us.

Faith must continually be strengthened, and strength must be inspired to right action by spiritual Faith.

In a spiritual way, then, strength enables us to persist in prayer, to build a stronger and stronger Faith www.BodyMindSpiritGUIDE.com

in our spiritual nature and the activity of God through us, and to do the things that need to be done by us as a part of becoming the “fourth dimension” person that our Twelve Powers, spiritually developed, enable us to be.

The person who depends on physical strength alone is constantly being challenged by others in the human thought and eventually will be overcome by one who is stronger. … Mental strength alone—pitted against the strong mind of another—may result in a test of wills, a human contest, with the same results. Only spiritual strength remains nonresistant, triumphant, regardless of the challenge.

For the best results, both physical and mental strength must be rooted in the spiritual development of the strength faculty. … … Strength is a quality that we can and must develop if we are to bring forth our God-given potential. It is to be brought forth along with the other 11 powers, but it must be basic in our growth.

As you begin your development of this faculty represented by Andrew, declare quietly to yourself: Through the will and the work of [Spirit] within, my God-given potential of strength is developed and expressed—easily and in divine order. Remember that strength is to be developed easily, not with tension and strain, but with a relaxed, trusting attitude. … As with all the powers, strength is consciously awakened first in the intellectual nature and then developed (through prayerful concentration on the idea) to be a spiritual realization of oneness with the Source of all strength.

Past Life Regression Work Perhaps you’ve heard of Brian Weiss. He is a wellknown psychiatrist who uses past-life regression to help many of his patients overcome a vast array of problems. The story of Dr. Weiss is a very interesting one. He originally used Psychoanalysis to treat the patients who came to see him. He is the chairman of the psychiatric department where he works, and originally he did not believe in past-lives.

Dr. Weiss tells the story of a client he calls Catherine. She came to see him because she had serious problems with anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, and depression. She feared flying and the dark. She had great difficulty getting to sleep. He had been working with her for a year and a half, but regardless of what he tried she was not getting better. Finally he suggested using hypnosis. Dr. Weiss believed the problem may have occurred when she was very young and hypnosis would be an excellent tool to help her retrieve the repressed memory. She reluctantly agreed.

Dr. Weiss proceeded to hypnotize her and took her to age three. Although a traumatic event did occur at that age, her condition did not improve with its resolution. The next session, he took her to age two, but nothing came out of this. Finally, Dr. Weiss asked her to go to where the problem first originated. Dr. Weiss was not prepared for what occurred next. The client was describing a life about 1600 years B.C. Despite his disbelief, Dr. Weiss led her through the lifetime and allowed her February 2013

to describe the situation. The client told about a life in which she lived in a small town.

A terrible flood or tsunami occurred. Not only did it take her life, but it also took the life of the little child she was holding. This was a very traumatic event for Catherine.

While Dr. Weiss was not convinced that Catherine had actually gone to a past life, he did notice that many of her symptoms disappeared soon afterwards. Dr. Weiss continued to use hypnosis and took her back to what she believed were past lives, and she did continue to improve.

Brian was still not convinced his client was truly experiencing past lives until something very strange occurred. One time during the hypnosis session, Catherine had gone to what he called the ‘in- between’ state. This is where one goes after the death experience. She reported that she was with the “Masters” (very evolved and enlightened beings), and that Brian’s father and son were also there.

Dr. Weiss reports that both his father and son had died previously but that Catherine had no way of knowing what had transpired. She told Dr. Weiss that his father had a message for him. He stated that his name was Avrom, and that he died of a heart condition. Brian stated that most people knew him by the name Alvin, and very few knew of his Hebrew name.

In addition, his son had died just 3 weeks after birth, and this was a very private matter that practically no one knew about. Yet Catherine was now claiming they were both present at this time. She also said that his son had come as a gift to Brian and his wife, and that his life and death removed a great deal of “karma” or past debts and taught him that modern science does not have many of the answers, since it could not save his son. This

information convinced Dr. Weiss that Catherine was not fabricating this material. He now actually believed in the existence of past lives.

Since this event, Dr. Weiss has been using past-life hypnosis a great deal, and has helped a great number of people. He states that many problems people are now experiencing may have originated in a previous life. Originally, Catherine had a great many fears and phobias, as well as other problems, but with the use of past-life regression and his therapy, she became much healthier.

Mathematical Earth

Below the feet is the Earth Star, and it is one octave below middle C, 128 Hz.

In mathematics 2 is the perfect number. From it comes the binary number system, from which all computers spring. In music there are eight notes in a set they are C, D, E, F, G, A, B and then C again. This sequence of eight is called an octave, oct being Greek for eight.

The Earth vibrates at a frequency of 7.83 cycles per second (Hz).

Many believe that the natural frequency of the Earth is 8 Hz, but it has been slowed down by all negative actions of people. In music, middle C is 256 Hz. That is the sixth octave of eight cycles per second, the nearest whole number to the Earth frequency.

Tuning forks are used to bring the energy system into tune. There are several systems that are used. We have found two to be extremely effective.

One is based on Kabalah, which we will not discuss here. The other uses the harmonic set.

The harmonic set matches the whole notes to the chakras. The root chakra is 256 Hz. And is middle C. The chakras are: 1 – C - 256 – Root 2 – D - 288 – Sacral 3 – E – 320 – Solar-plexus 4 – F – 341 – Heart 5 – G – 384 – Throat 6 – A – 427 – Third Eye 7 – B – 480 – Crown Three feet above the crown is the transpersonal point. It is again a C, 512 Hz. that is an octave above middle C. February 2013

In mathematics we can look at the powers of a number. That is the number that results from multiplying a number by itself. So the first power of 2 is 2, the second power of 2 is 4, the third 8. Eight is, again, the nearest whole number to the current frequency of the Earth, 7.83 Hz. One little mathematical anomaly, what is the zero power of two? Two raised to the power zero is one.

If you seek “nothingness” the result is “oneness”. In many of the mystical religious traditions they talk about getting to that state of nothingness where you become one with the universe.

In Kabalah we talk of this state as the point where there was no differentiation.

Everything was one. There was no plus and minus, no good and evil, no sacred and profane. It is the first line in the bible “in the beginning there was God.” The Dalai Lama talks about the same thing when he discusses meditation.

He says that in the western traditions we have misinterpreted the goal of meditation. We say that the one who meditates attempts to calm the mind to get to a state of nothingness. On the contrary, you want to get to a state where your mind becomes one with the universe. That is, there is no differentiation between you and the universe.

We are attempting to find balance, calm, peace and oneness. We are all trying to find the source of all and become part of the one. Again, two to the zero power is one. If we reach the point where there are zero differences

between us and the universe we find that the power of zero is oneness.

If we assume that mathematics is pure and two is the perfect number, is it not hard to extrapolate that the Earth should be vibrating to eight? Many psychics have been saying that to repair the world we need to raise the vibrational level, the frequency of the Earth. Let us take eight as the ideal vibration for the Earth.

Each power of two, that is each time we double the value, we go up one octave.

Human hearing is from 20 to 20,000 cycles per second. The first octave in the human hearing range would be 32.

Next are 64 and 128 and then comes middle C, 256, which is the frequency of the root chakra. We resonate to the Earth frequency of eight.

Loving Your Body This is the month of showing love and affection to the most important people in your life, as well as taking time to love yourself. When you don’t feel your best, it’s more difficult to express your passion for others, and for living. Loving your body by providing it with nourishing food improves your health and well-being, and allows you to more easily love others.

Choose unrefined whole grain products, rich in vitamins, minerals and digestible fiber. White bread and refined flour products have been stripped of vitamins, minerals, fiber and other important nutrients. Without these naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, your body has a difficult time digesting and utilizing these products. Consuming them over time robs the body of B vitamins, important for handling stress.

Even multi-grain bread can be junk food, masquerading as healthy bread.

Make sure whole wheat is the first and main ingredient. Otherwise, you are eating white bread with a few grains mixed in. The manufacturing process is another reason to avoid refined white flour. Chlorine is used to bleach the flour, while bromide is used to brominate it. These two chemicals are linked to thyroid and organ damage.

Whole grains have real fiber that is essential for colon health. Packaged and refined cereals and food bars, even those promoted as “high-fiber” do not contain digestible food fiber. Their fiber ingredient is “cellulose”, which is really wood pulp. Food manufacturers use this to extend their products, selling you a mouthful of wood shavings.

White rice is another refined food, stripped of the rice bran, rice germ, and B vitamins. Compared to eating brown rice, eating white rice is associated with a 17% higher risk of diabetes when consumed five or more times a week. White rice is “fortified,” but is still February 2013

nutritionally deficient, causing a spike in blood sugar. Reduce your risk by eating whole grain brown rice or other whole grains, and consume white rice less than once a month.

Choose other whole grains including quinoa, steel-cut oats and barley.

Avoid using millet unless your thyroid is overactive. An under-active thyroid can be slowed down even more by the natural components found in millet.

Read food labels even when purchasing gluten free baked goods.

Look for ingredients such as organic whole grains and natural sugars. Avoid refined flours, artificial ingredients, sugar and non-organic grains, which are often genetically, modified grains in disguise. Corn is the most frequently used genetically modified grain in gluten free products.

some nuts or nut butter for a healthy snack. Buy nuts in bulk and make your own trail mix using almonds, walnuts and/or cashews, dried fruit and natural chocolate pieces, combining ingredients that you like! Store in airtight glass jars, or refrigerate for a longer shelf life.

You might want to eat other protein and omega rich foods now that the FDA has approved genetically modified salmon for human consumption, without requiring it to be labeled. Vegans have been using chickpeas and chia seeds as alternatives to fish. Chickpeas have a considerable amount of protein, slow release carbohydrates, the B vitamin folate, and zinc. Chia seeds are a healthy source of Omega-3 fats. Just 28 mg of chia seed has 4915 mg of Omega-3’s, compared to only 724 mg in 28 mg of salmon.

Consume healthy protein alternatives with organic rice-based protein or hemp seed protein. Avoid soymilk, soy protein and soy-based meat substitutes, which may provide protein, but at a health cost. Over 90% of non-organic soy ingredients come from genetically modified soybeans. In addition, most soy is processed using a toxic chemical known as hexane, a petroleum product.

This toxin has been linked to birth defects, reproductive problems and cancer. Non-fermented soy is highly estrogenic, which can contribute to hormone imbalance. If you want to consume soy, eat organic fermented soy in the form of miso or tempeh.

Add real berries to your diet! Most of the breakfast cereals, muffins, granola bars and sauces do not contain any real berries/blueberries. They are manufactured using artificial blueberry flavoring, and toxic chemical food coloring.

Conventional protein-energy bars often contain several forms of refined sugar, soy protein, hydrogenated fat, and other harmful additives. Most of these bars have a very high sugar and fat content, often as high as a candy bar! Read the labels before you buy to avoid purchasing these junk food bars.

Healthy food bars should contain food items that you recognize, not long lists of sugars and chemicals.

A large majority of the American people are suffering with hormone problems. This includes men as well as women... and the cause may be parasites.

Parasites are organisms that live inside us. Since these parasites are unable to produce food, they depend on us for their survival. Unfortunately, parasites harm human beings because they consume our food and nutrients, they can destroy our tissues and cells, and they produce toxic waste products that can make us very ill. These toxins can mimic many symptoms that lead us to believe we have many different diseases.

So, you might ask, “What does this have to do with hormones?” Well, I’ll tell you. It all has to do with sleep. You see, in order for the body to produce hormones, you need a certain amount of sleep. Normal hormone production starts 3 ½ hours into uninterrupted sleep. So if hormone production starts after 3 ½ hours, then to continue producing hormones you need more than 3 ½ hours of sleep. That’s why a person needs to sleep at least 5 to 6 hours. The recommended amount of sleep is 8 to 9 hours per night of uninterrupted sleep.

What does sleep have to do with parasites? It can have a lot to do with them. One form of parasite that affects sleep is the Pinworm. Pinworm infections are extremely common.

Occurring worldwide, it is estimated that there are more than 40 million cases in the United States each year, making it the most common parasite (worm) infection in America.

Anyone can catch this parasite but the infection occurs most frequently in school children between 5 to 10 years of age. The spread among family members is common. So, if a child gets this worm from school and then comes home and sleeps with the parents, everyone can be infected.

Tiny eggs deposited around the anus by a female worm spread the infection. Each female worm can produce more than 10,000 eggs during her life span. When someone with pinworms scratches their perianal area, eggs may lodge under their fingernails and can spread to anything he or she touches. Infested dust, clothing, bedding, or toys can also spread eggs.

When someone else accidentally ingests these eggs, they also become infected. Then, their eyes, nose, ears and anus become infected. The most common symptom of pinworms is itching. It is worse at night when the female worm deposits her eggs near the anus of the person infected. This could lead to difficulty getting a good night sleep and can spread all over your bed sheets and cause you to itch all over.

This can interrupt your sleep and cause you to wake up.

Then, your hormones don’t reproduce, therefore causing sleep deprivation, major depression, weight problems, mood swings, problems breathing , asthma, lack of concentration, memory, terrible fatigue, lack of sexual desire and even erectile dysfunction.

There are over 1,000 different kinds of parasites. Some of these parasites grow to be 30 feet long and can live in our bodies for February 2013

up to 30 years. Parasites can grow anywhere throughout the body. They can move under the skin and under your scalp, causing you to itch at night or throughout the day.

February’s Mercury Retrograde Early on in my career as an author, my literary agent informed me excitedly that Warner Books wanted me to write one of the first books on the popular astrological topic of Mercury Retrograde.

At that time, I had only a passing interest in this planet but the more I researched, the more fascinated I became. In a nutshell, Mercury retrograde is when periods of disrupted communication tend to occur as Mercury, the speedy little planet closest to the Sun, appears to move backwards.

The Mercury Retrograde phenomenon is very real; and yet also an illusion.

Real, in that it affects us all. An illusion in that the planets never actually move backwards.

Interestingly, Warner Books took Mercury Retrograde very seriously and refused to sign any contracts during this period. Being a practical astrologer myself, I did find this rather strange and sure enough, after my book had been in publication for a couple of years, the company went under. The message here is that even though Mercury Retrograde periods can be troublesome, irritating and frustrating and they indicate times to take care, one shouldn’t stop living or making decisions.

These three-week periods happen about three-four times a year and one is beginning this month on February 22 through March 17. Mercury is in the sign of Pisces, bringing a tendency for emotional confusion as mental processes become entwined with emotions. You feel as if things are unfolding behind the scenes but are

not yet clear what they are. Remain balanced, and focus on building your spiritual life. It’s a great time to reflect and indulge in meditation, prayer, art and music.

Be open to your own intuitive hunches and be ready to take a new direction when it suddenly materializes.

It may be closer than you think. Life is urging you to rely on your inner resources; when the mist clears, you’ll have the opportunity to really make yourself heard.

It’s great when we identify and transform our limiting belief patterns, go like gangbusters to raise our vibration, and become more mindful and loving.

And then, something happens which seems to throw us back into our old patterns. As some clients put it, “I’m back to square one.”

Knowing that we always attract from God/Source what is in our divine interests, these experiences are what the Course in Miracles calls, “Holy Encounters.” Meaning, these encounters and our reactions to them allow us to realize where we can change in order to grow into our divine self.

They are opportunities to be mindful of where our vibration is and the limiting thought patterns/programming that brought us there.

In recognizing and developing our connection with Divine Source, we start to pay more attention to our defenses by identifying the limiting thought patterns programmed into our biocomputer/brain, which have enabled us to survive childhoods that often felt unsafe and threatening to our very existence physically.

Once there is recognition that there is something greater than this physical existence, we allow for change to occur. We then begin to reframe limiting thoughts, transforming and rewriting our biocomputer programming.

Our vibrational quality starts to rise, our experience of life becomes more joyful, and we start to love our own Self. Sometimes, it can even feel “odd” or “uncomfortable” as some clients have commented. Fear of the unknown (another program) can also come into play. Limiting beliefs related to being unlovable can start shutting down our new, loving programming. This activates the EGO (Easing Out God) and our limiting defenses can reboot.

One such defense can be complacency. We become less aware, less mindful of our patterns of thoughts and actions and go right back into old, well-used programs of defense that no longer serve us. Or, possibly new ones that are in our biocomputer, just waiting to be used. Most programming begins with our parent’s behavior, so we might switch from acting from dad’s behavior to moms.

Another possible defense can be pride. Pride comes from the ego. So happy are we that we have changed our life that we fall into another trap of the ego. Pride is just another way of being separate from God/Source, judging ourselves to be better than others.

Being mindful and being love in the present moment, both for ourself and others, is extremely helpful.

Practicing mindful compassion is also a tool for self-growth. With compassion, we are able to forgive ourselves for our mistakes when we are sidetracked from our inner growth, and forgive others when they trigger our old defenses.

Being mindfully compassionate allows us to experience and know ourself and others as the divine beings of love that we are. Opening to the awareness of the divine flame within brings self-acceptance and love for ourself and others.

We all make mistakes, yet the judgment-free acceptance of them opens the space for us to experience the divine, loving and joyful beings that we all are. We are all one in this human experience, so let’s do our best to raise the universal vibration of compassion and love!

Massage, Pain and Self-Hypnosis Words cannot begin to describe what it’s like to live with physical pain in your life. Unless you’ve had this experience, it’s fair to say that you haven’t the slightest idea how emotionally, mentally and spiritually devastating living with pain really is. Can you remember having a toothache? Do you remember how the pain took over every aspect of your life- - how you couldn’t function with even the smallest of life’s tasks, the pain was so all-consuming? Well, imagine that happening 24 hrs. a day and you have some idea of what it’s like to live with pain.

Even though synthetic “pain killers” ruin our body’s bio chemistry, poison vital enzymes and damage our brain’s receptors, we are willing to accept this rather than live with pain. I don’t think anyone has the right to judge someone for choosing this route for managing pain -- I would however, like to highlight some complimentary alternatives.

These complimentary alternatives become more and more potent with use, as opposed to synthetic chemicals which become less and less effective with use and ultimately lead to using higher and higher doses. Higher doses can end up completely poisoning and destroying our body’s natural systems.

When it comes to pain, our body’s nervous system carries one signal at a time. Our nervous system is designed to decipher which signal is most important to our survival. Our nervous system registers pressure over pain, known as the ‘gate theory’; one gate or receptor, one signal at a time, and the pressure signal overrides the pain signal.

Massage has always been the number one holistic pain treatment. Massage provides the pressure signal to the nervous system, and causes the body to release endorphins (morphine naturally February 2013

produced by the body) which are the body’s natural pain killers released during massage. Massage in America is mostly associated with pampering, while the medical benefits of massage are often completely overlooked.

I have been privileged to work with clients that manage pain in their daily lives. As everyone knows, real sleep is priceless, so when a client spends 95% of their time on the treatment table in deep unmedicated sleep, it really is an honor to be part of that healing process.

Guided meditation, progressive relaxation imagery or hypnosis has long been used to treat chronic pain. This form of therapy directly taps into the body’s natural self-healing potential. I personally subscribe to the philosophy that all healing comes from within, so for me, teaching clients progressive relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis is the most natural and obvious approach to any form of healing.

There is a philosophical viewpoint that states that all sickness is the physical reflection of conflict between our higher unconditional love-based authentic self, and our fear-based ego self. Whether you believe this or not, science has always known the amazing healing powers of the mind, and coaches that specialize in helping clients reach more of their full potential deal in what’s known as the ‘subconscious dialogue’.

What this means is that our life is a reflection of our personal subconscious chatter. What we tell ourselves subconsciously is what we manifest and experience consciously. Progressive relaxation helps us to proactively enter the subconscious mind, and selfhypnosis techniques help us rewrite a positive subconscious script -- a script that is more aligned with our authentic higher self. Our lives are reflections of our subconscious dialogue not viseverse, that’s how powerful our mind is!

becomes more and more potent with use. These techniques are easily learned, and once learned will become a tool that can be applied to every aspect of life, not just managing pain. A Lesson in Grace

Forgiveness, on the other hand, is an offering of grace - and with that grace comes emotional freedom, liberation from the downward spiral of negativity that resentment breeds, and an opportunity for personal redemption.

Someone hurt you and you’re holding a grudge. You feel a well-deserved sense of righteous indignation. You’re in the right. That someone was wrong.

You have every right to feel the way you do. Anyone who heard the story would take your side.

Take a Chance

Maybe she abandoned you.

Perhaps he betrayed you. She broke your heart. He molested you. She criticized you. He withdrew love. She beat you up.

He failed to protect you.

There are countless ways people can hurt us. Not one of us is immune, and it’s only natural that we build walls to protect our broken hearts. But when we let our hearts get tainted with resentment, we impede the flow of love out of our hearts and poison our inner space, resulting not only in damage to our relationships but also illness in the body.

Forgiveness as Medicine Every time you think about someone who has wronged you, the amygdala in your lizard brain lights up and activates your “fight-or-flight” response, stimulating your adrenal glands to pump out cortisol and triggering your sympathetic nervous system to go into overdrive. Next thing you know, BOOM. Your heart races, your respiratory rate increases, stomach acid gets pumped out, and - worst of all - the body’s natural self-repair mechanisms get flipped off, putting you at greater risk of everything from heart disease to cancer.

Even the Mayo Clinic acknowledges that forgiveness is good for your health. So does Oprah.

But It’s More than That Health aside, forgiveness is a fundamental part of living a happy, balanced, joyful life in alignment with your Inner Pilot Light. If you believe in quantum entanglement like I do, then you know that every time you spew negative thoughts at someone else, they land back on you. Resentment contaminates the soul, distancing you not only from other beings, but from Source.

You’d certainly be justified in digging your heels in. Everyone would understand... But what if you chose to do something wildly radical, and in choosing forgiveness, you opened a door into a paradise so full of grace you can’t even imagine what might lie on the other side? What if this opened other doors, and suddenly, the phone rang with that good news you’ve been waiting for? What if the person you love opened his heart to you? What if that illness you’ve struggled with miraculously disappeared? What if a huge check unexpectedly appeared in the mail? I can’t prove it, but I’ve heard enough stories to believe that this is how the Universe works.

Resentment prevents miracles, while love and grace foster them. And when you’re operating from a place of radical love, molecules rearrange themselves, time and space reconfigure, tumors disappear, miracles happen...

Grace isn’t something that can be earned. It’s an act of unconditional love and faith - and every single one of us has the capacity to grant it, no matter how heinous the crime.

Do You Have The Courage To Forgive?

Who do you resent? What payoff are you getting for holding onto that resentment? Is it your righteous anger? Your sense of superiority over someone less “right” than you? Your attachment to punishing that person? Your stand for what is moral and good?

Who might you be without that resentment? What might happen if you decided to finally let that go? What might you do to forgive that person? How could you invite grace in?

Food of the Month: Black Beans February, the month of love. A great time to strengthen the most important muscle in our bodies, the heart. To keep our muscles strong we need to eat protein. The purpose of protein in our diet is to build muscles and tissue.

Beans, which are an excellent source of a plant based protein, come in a large variety to choose from. Black beans are slightly sweet, easy to prepare, native to Mexico, and can be used in soups, casseroles, salads, and they make excellent refried beans.

to pressure cook them. Once up to pressure, most beans will only take 15 to 20 minutes to cook. When you cook your beans, always use a little piece of the sea vegetable kombu. It will help you digest the protein in the beans, which helps eliminate the gas some people experience.

For the wife who says it’s hot dogs tonight, because she is home with me, not with someone else.

To help make things quicker, I use canned beans in this recipe. If you want to convert, a half-cup of dried beans equals 1 (15 oz.) can of beans. Eden brand beans are the only brand that cooks their beans with kombu.

For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home, not on the streets.

Black Bean Burgers

According to Oriental medicine, they feed and nurture the kidneys and adrenal glands.

2 (15 oz.) cans black beans (drained)

Your adrenal glands are very important.

They are little glands that sit on top of your kidneys.

1 cup grated carrot

Their function is to help you deal with stress. They get weakened by being too stressed-out and consuming too much caffeine and sugar in our diets.

3 T. tamari 2 cups cooked short grain brown rice 1/4 onion (diced) 2 garlic cloves (minced) 1 tsp. cumin 1 tsp. basil

Some other health benefits of beans are:

-Contain isoflavones, can help prevent cancer and heart disease

1/2 cup brown rice flour

•

-Contain phytochemical diosgenin, appears to inhibit cancer cells from multiplying

•

-Contains calcium, potassium, iron and zinc

•

-Contains several B vitamins

If you have the time, cooking beans from scratch is great. Soak the beans before cooking; I soak mine overnight.

That way I know they have soaked for a good 8 hours or more. Then get rid of the soaking water - that is where the gas from the beans is located.

Start with fresh water and cover the beans. If you pot boil them, they still take a long time, an hour for most, sometimes longer. A quicker way is February 2013

1/2 tsp. sea salt Put the black beans and tamari in a food processor. Puree until smooth. In a large mixing bowl, put the rest of the ingredients and the pureed black beans.

Using your hands, mix together. Make sure everything is mixed together well.

Heat a small amount of canola oil in a skillet. Form mixture into patties and brown on each side. (Approx. 5 to 7 minutes each side on medium heat.)

Serve on whole grain buns or bread.

These patties freeze well.

Do Your Adult Relationships Begin with Mom and Dad? The month of February brings Valentine’s Day and encourages us to think about love and relationships, of which there are many different kinds. Relationships are not limited to those with a significant other, but span the various activities each individual experiences throughout their lifetime. Some people find relationships easy to form and have many close friendships. They do well in business and seem to intuitively know how to get along with both peers and superiors. These individuals tend to be great bosses as well!

So then, why is it that some individuals are lonely and have difficulties forming intimate relationships? Why do some people find it hard to work for others? And why are others lousy bosses? Interestingly enough however, some people who cannot work for others are great bosses and people love to work for them. So why is love and friendship easy for some and so difficult for others?

According to Bert Hellinger, creator of Systemic Family Constellations, this can be traced to the early relationships with both mom and dad. He pointed out that a child can also become entangled with the fate of an ancestor and this can result in relationship difficulties as well. However, the primary relationship in every individual’s life is with mother and if there is an early separation from her or a difficult birth, this will impact the person’s ability to get along with others later in life.

Fascinatingly enough, those with long difficult births often don’t find it so difficult to form relationships, but tend to find it almost impossible to let go—they keep people in their lives long after a relationship is over—often to the detriment of both.

It may seem easier to understand that one’s relationship with mother can impact future relationships—romantic, business, as well as friendships—however, the relationship with father is important as well. According to Hellinger, the father sets the tone for the household—dad leads and mother follows. If dad

is absent or weak, then the balance, or flow of love is interrupted, and this is passed down to the children. In the US, some parents may have worked out a different style of parenting—especially with same sex partners. But according to Hunter Beaumont, one of the earliest Constellations experts, ex-pat American and long-time colleague of Hellinger’s, there needs to be a head of household—someone must lead the family.

Children need direction, and permissive or weak parenting doesn’t work—it leaves the children feeling insecure and adrift which in turn creates difficulties later in life in both intimate relationships and careers. Early divorce can leave children with a significantly lowered standard of living and a young mother not knowing how to negotiate the world. This is passed to her children and seeing dad every couple of weeks, no matter how hard he tries to be a good dad, cannot make up for his absence. Shared custody with children living one-half the time with mom and the other half with dad can be even more confusing—there is no sense of permanence for these children and developing relationships later in life becomes very challenging. Parents may travel for business or the military and it is essential that their presence be felt by the children, even though they are physically absent. Today’s electronic media makes this easier to manage.

Winter Solstice in Chichen Itza I’ve always been fascinated with the prophecies of our times, including the solstice and galactic alignment of 2012. What it all means, only time will tell. But the power of common held beliefs to unite and elevate humanity is amazing to me, and I was blessed to experience the nirvana of it all on sacred ground at Chichen Itza.

My experience in the holy land of ancient Maya made one thing very clear – the numbers and calculations are of no significance. Our highly anticipated ascension is a spiritual path which each of us must choose to follow and experience in our own way. Although it’s possible for a single event such as this to unify our diverse population, major shifts in global consciousness will not happen overnight. Our best opportunity for rebirth comes from within, and this is what I hoped to encounter there.

So as morning’s first light rose above the great pyramid of the Sun god, where ceremonial fires burned and tribal horns heralded the dawn of a new era, I celebrated the moment in prayer.

Unfortunately, I was in my hotel room, as access to the site before usual hours was restricted to those who purchased a package tour. The tourism industry in Mexico has deemed this the “golden” era and quite literally at that. Hotels near the pyramid demanded $800 and up per night (US dollars) for a standard room, and the best price I could find on a sunrise tour were $1,500-US. The outrageous effort to capitalize on such a sacred event was definitely a drawback to anyone who made the journey, but the experience was still nothing short of amazing.

I arrived at the ruins just after they February 2013

opened to the public, and found myself surrounded with good vibrations and likeminded souls in symbolic white attire. The energy was so Elysian that a feeling of weightlessness came over me, and persisted the entire time I was there. As I admired the majesty of the great pyramid, my eyes filled with tears of joy, knowing what a privilege it was just to be there.

Broken segments of fallen columns made for convenient resting places throughout the grounds. I found one beneath a tree facing a temple, and paused to meditate. When I opened my eyes, I realized that I was alone and quickly tried to snap a photo without any tourists in the scene. But when I looked through my viewfinder, there was a woman standing dead center, looking up as though the temple was still standing tall. Her back was to me, so I didn’t see her face. But she appeared to be Hispanic and was wearing a simple, parchment colored dress cinched at the waist, and a headband in her hair.

I assumed she was a local performer or vendor in traditional costume, and was so annoyed with myself for not having seen her that I pulled the camera away, and … she was gone. I looked in the viewfinder again and saw nothing.

After walking the perimeter, I found the historical marker and learned that I was meditating at the temple of the warriors.

I realized then that the woman I saw was the spirit of a Mayan squaw, possibly mourning the death of a husband or son, or praying for their safe return.

The ghost hunter in me will never stop regretting that I didn’t just snap the picture. But I will always be honored that she made her presence known, and will never forget the experience.

Itza. They worshipped many gods, and sacrifices were also made at cenotes scattered throughout the Yucatan peninsula. Today, these natural underground rivers and watering holes are popular sites for swimmers and divers but to the Mayans, they were sacred wells where they sacrificed their own people – mostly children – to gain favor with the god of rain.

In the village of Valladolid, I attended an authentic ceremony at the cenote.

At midnight exactly, it began on high ground with prayers, smudge and blessings. Across the lagoon, the entire length of the cave was illuminated with candles. Flames danced in the shadows of the stalactites and shimmered across the water, as the traditional offering of fruit and flowers was lowered down. Tribal drums echoed like thunder, and voices lifted in song. Following a traditional rain dance, the ceremony ended with a dangerous leap of faith by cliff divers into the cenote. Their dive was not a re-enactment; it was a gesture to honor and invoke such virtues as faith and courage whenever darkness is upon us.

Since my return, I find myself no longer hoping for the Sun to chase the darkness away. Instead, I now channel the light in and try to sustain it with my own inner glow. If you ever have an opportunity to travel there, don’t pass it up.

You’ll come away enlightened, and have wonderful memories to cherish forever.
