Slowing Aging There is not one common problem, but a multitude of health problems, all with the same root cause. People today are dehydrated and nutrient deficient, which speeds the aging process. The many symptoms of aging and degenerative disease are linked to both dehydration and lack of proper basic nutrients.

Many people have digestive issues ranging from bloating, gas and indigestion, to acid reflux and constipation. There is little awareness that we are supposed to have a bowel movement after every meal. Often, people do not even have a daily bowel movement. Poor digestion results in lack of absorption of the essential vitamins and minerals that we need to be healthy.

As people age, they often need supplemental enzymes to help improve digestion, metabolism and absorption.

The lack of the essential alkaline minerals -- calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium in the diet, contributes to acid reflux and overall body aging and degeneration. These alkaline minerals are found in fresh leafy greens, and are essential to neutralize the acid waste that occurs as part of the normal metabolic processes in the body.

Most people do not eat a sufficient amount of fresh organic raw fruits and vegetables, becoming nutritionally deficient, and overly acidic. Simple dietary changes can be helpful, along with specific customized nutritional support.

Water plays a major role in the overall state of health. The human body is over 70% water. The type of water consumed August 2013

makes a difference in the absorption and utilization of water. Most people do not drink enough water, let alone the right type of water, that can hydrate a body. Dehydration occurs if the water consumed cannot get into the cells of the body.

Dehydration has been linked to all degenerative and chronic diseases associated with aging, including constipation, acid reflux, allergies, headaches, arthritis, fatigue, fibromyalgia, Diabetes, and blood pressure issues.

We lose half of our body weight in ounces every day due to perspiration and elimination. Most waters that are consumed take 3-4 hours to get into the cells. During the 3-4 hours, only 20% is actually absorbed. This is why dehydration is so common. It becomes very difficult to drink the necessary amount of water due to the type of water consumed. People become dehydrated because they are missing 30% of the needed water intake every day.

Everyone needs water and nutrients, but which type and kind is unique to each individual. Specific non-invasive testing can effectively determine which water, enzymes and nutrients are needed to slow aging. Beneficial health changes occur that reduce the aging process when the body is hydrated, and specific customized nutritional supports are added to a healthy diet.

Third Annual Yoga Fest Weekend Song of the Morning Yoga Retreat Center, with the support of its sponsors and Michigan’s yoga community, presents its third annual Yoga Fest weekend this August 16-18. A Spiritual Journey to Wholeness In 1886, a frail and sickly young woman known as Myrtle Fillmore attended a lecture

by Dr. E. B. Weeks. Myrtle was a woman with great faith and what she described as “... decidedly eclectic religious beliefs.” But her long struggle with tuberculosis had taken its toll, and she was searching for a miracle. At the lecture, Myrtle heard an intriguing idea. She heard that she was a divine child of God and that she had not inherited illness. She knew that she was a child of God and was made in God’s image and likeness. But never before had she considered that illness was not her birthright, that human limitation was not her true nature.

Through that experience, Myrtle embarked on a spiritual journey that led her to a complete recovery from tuberculosis and the development of a prayer ministry that would become, Silent Unity, a 24/7 prayer ministry that is still operating today (1-800-NOW-PRAY). This journey would ultimately inspire Myrtle and her husband Charles to co-found, Unity School for Religious Studies, the birthplace of the Unity Movement.

Myrtle had great faith. She had strong, if “eclectic” religious beliefs. But it was a newfound awareness of her spiritual nature that lead her to health and wholeness. Research tells us that people who attend regular religious services tend to live longer, suggesting that religion may improve one’s health.

Other research indicates that a daily spiritual practice such as meditation tends to increase health, improve concentration, lower blood pressure, and provide one with a sense of overall well-being.

What is it about religion and spirituality that improves our health? And why did Myrtle Fillmore not experience healing simply by being a woman with strong religious beliefs?

Religion is defined as a set of beliefs often including traditions, doctrine and practices. Some of these beliefs may simply provide a moral compass that encourages participants to live a healthier lifestyle which translates to a longer, healthier life.

But Spirituality goes further. Spirituality opens our hearts and minds to the sacred and the Divine. A spiritual journey is a quest for deeper understanding that transcends doctrine or tradition and leads us to understanding that we are “of Spirit.”

And, being “of Spirit,” we are already whole, already complete in the Mind of God. A spiritual practice such as affirmative prayer and meditation assists us in recognizing this Truth and bringing forth wholeness into our human experience.

This is what Myrtle Fillmore discovered, that she was “of Spirit;” that she was a “Perfect child of God who had not inherited illness.” That discovery and the spiritual journey that followed brought forth wholeness in Myrtle’s life and it can do the same for us. The Magic of Healing Healing has been an urgent need since man first began to exercise his freewill, and live out of harmony with the Laws of Nature. In cooperation with those Laws, systems of healing have evolved through every culture on Earth, from the Asian and American Indians, to the Europeans, to the Maoris of the Pacific, and many other civilizations.

One of the most ideal and safe of all the healing therapies is spiritual healing. It is so natural and simple that, sadly, in our materialistic society, it is often disregarded in favor of increasingly complex and expensive drug-based methods of treatment.

Also, since healing became popular over the last two decades, the marketing of spiritual healing has unfortunately presented this wonderful natural ability as something complex, time-consuming and costly.

The great news is that it doesn’t need to be. Spiritual healing is the birthright of every man, woman and child on Earth and, as such, we just have to unlock this power within us. To do that, we need the desire to do so – and a safe and effective technique.

I was first introduced to Spiritual Healing at the age of 14 at a local Spiritualist Church; two years later I was privileged to witness, in the Albert Hall, London, miracle after healing miracle performed by a wonderful gentleman in rolled-up shirt sleeves. under the impression that healing was a gift reserved for the few. It wasn’t until a few years later that I met the incredible Yoga Master and Spiritual healer, Dr. George King, who dispelled this myth once and for all.

It was in 1975 that I was thrilled to be taught Dr. King’s fantastic, simple, effective and balanced technique – The King Technique – and immediately began to heal. I remember at the time the healing movement in England was still insistent that healing was a gift until Dr. King came along and virtually revolutionized this outdated movement by holding healing demonstrations the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. Suddenly the word was out – “healing is something we all can – and should do!”

Shortly afterwards, I was selected by Dr. King to teach this wonderful Spiritual healing technique to others, and have continued to give and teach healing for over thirty years both in the U.K. and in the U.S.

I have had my share of healing successes but the most exciting thing for me is that my students, some of them completely new to healing, also find that their healing really works – sometimes immediately. They are also delighted when they realize they do not have to spend a small fortune and a vast amount of time learning to be a healer.

DE STRESSING YOUR BODY NATURALLY Are you feeling tension, anxiety, anger, depression, guilt or sadness? These are signs of stress. Even long after the trigger of our stress is gone, our bodies still register stress and it can be very taxing on our immune & nervous system as well as our adrenals. We need to take steps regularly to rebalance and destress our nervous system. Healing Families Families provide us with some of the most profound healing opportunities available in life.

They are the foundation for our lessons, providing each individual with the impetus to accomplish what they have come to do in this lifetime. As a healer for families, I have to look beyond the current incarnations and the present set of generations to identify and treat the causes of issues.

The family you were born into was not a random circumstance. It was a very deliberate choice by your higher consciousness combined with a magnetic attraction based on unresolved issues from the past. The choice is based on the gifts and soul qualities you wish to develop and the fulfillment of contracts

for playing particular roles within the world story and the lives of those you will touch. Whether for good or ill, these influences are needed for the growth of others as well as yourself.

Ultimately, the ill effects will be turned into positive influences through the journey of life and incarnations.

During our current phase of evolution, which is a time of ascension to higher levels of truth, negative influences can heal much quicker and with less trauma and drama than in the past!

Healing families is such a complex and interesting process. It becomes evident how the individual souls are working off of each other to evolve. Looking back through generations and lifetimes, I can see how souls have returned time and again to the same relationships seeking mastery of their own self through the challenges presented.

Another fascinating element is the way

that a family may have a collective goal that gets worked out across generations.

You can see how a child picks up an issue their parent has, which the parent picked up from the grandparent and so forth. Rather than seeing this as a negative, when looked at from a spiritual perspective, we see that these souls are all three committed to the resolution of these issues for themselves and for all humanity. They are developing soul qualities and strengths which are needed. So where the grandparent may have been totally stuck in a negative or untrue state of consciousness, the next generation is still stuck, but less so. They are then able to allow greater freedom and truth within their own children, who in turn may eventually release the issue entirely. This process contributes to the larger community of souls within the world, who will all gain momentum in their evolution because of the victories of others.

situation sees the grandparent passing down the issue and future generations suffering from it, which is true in a linear sense. The spiritual perspective shows a different perspective. It reveals that they all agreed, before incarnating, to work together to learn through this challenge and to overcome it. So we might see that the grandparent’s souls were courageous to sacrifice themselves to become so immersed in the darkness of untruth that they became stuck there; then the courage of the next generation to live through that with their parents and begin overcoming it. The next generation has it much easier for the work their parents did, although they may not see it that way! So I see children as benefiting from the work their parents have done, to whatever degree their parents have succeeded in overcoming the challenge.

They then are able to take that work to the next higher level and evolve further than their parents were able to do.

Everyone has the same challenges, just packaged differently. We are all seeking to realize our truth and our true potential and we all have obstacles to overcome that help us to do that. While in the outer sense those obstacles look different, from the spiritual perspective we are all learning to find the truth and power that lies hidden within us disguised by fear. That fear takes many forms, but underlying it all is fear.

As a healer, my job is to help souls overcome the fear and related trauma that has blocked them in this and in all lifetimes so that they can realize their true self, which is eternal and made of love. Working with families brings amazing influences to all individuals within the group, helping each to move more freely toward their own truth. Often when people have me do healing for their children it influences everyone -- siblings, parents and grandparents in wonderful ways. And when working with parents, the children and grandparents receive healing. Their soul paths are so connected that where one person would August 2013

never ask for a healing, the effect of others within the family being healed changes them. Especially as the fear and trauma are released; in whatever forms and circumstances they show up, forgiveness happens. Forgiveness sets us free to move forward with confidence and strength and to evolve. It is a wonderful thing!

Can’t Lose Weight This May Surprise You… They all say that the more calories you consume, the more weight you will gain, right? At least that’s the modern weight-control theory, which is based on the idea that weight loss is a simple mathematical formula of consuming fewer calories than you use up.

There are calculations showing that if you eat a small snack every day that exceeds your caloric expense for that day, you could gain several pounds in a year, based on the few extra calories in that snack. Our current low-fat diets are based on this theory, as, gram for gram; fats are the most calorie-dense foods we eat.

The problem is it’s not working.

Americans now consume dozens of low-fat products, from milk to cereals to pizza, and yet we are gaining weight at an astonishing rate. It is estimated that fully three-quarters of Americans are overweight. (Technically, 33 percent of adults are overweight; statistics separate overweight adults from obese adults. The 75 percent is the sum of overweight, obese, and extremely obese adults.) And we are gaining weight fast.

Everybody knows we need to be more active and exercise more. But there is tremendous disagreement — and confusion — when it comes to what is a healthy, weight-regulating diet.

There is evidence that diet is the main driver for our national weight problem.

From a wellness perspective, weight control is not nearly as simple as calories in, weight on. Our weight is regulated primarily by hormones that are strongly influenced by the foods we eat.

What’s the biggest culprit for putting on weight? Insulin. This hormone is known primarily for lowering blood sugar after a meal heavy in carbs. But it does so by storing many of the extra calories as fat. It also stops the body’s use of fat as a fuel. So if you are exercising to 14

try to lose weight, but have high insulin levels from a recent carb-based meal, the insulin will prevent your body from accessing the fat stores.

Even more important than weight regulation for many people are appetite and cravings control. Many of my patients who are trying to improve their diets complain not so much about being hungry as craving sweets and carbrich foods such as doughnuts, pastries and soda. The problem is that carbs are literally addictive for some people, especially highly refined carbs like sugar and white flour products.

Dr. David Kessler, former head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and author of “The End of Overeating,” also implicates foods high in salt and processed fats as being addictive.

Healthy fats are not addictive, but processed ones are, especially Trans fats.

Dr. Kessler reviewed a study in which rats that were offered high-fat, sugary foods showed signs of addiction, almost equal to that of cocaine. The lead author of the study, Dr. Paul Kenny, commented, “In the study, the animals completely lost control over their eating behavior, the primary hallmark of addiction. They continued to overeat even when they anticipated receiving electric shocks, highlighting just how motivated they were to consume the palatable food. ” When the “junk foods” were removed and healthy options were offered, many of the rats simply refused to eat. Does this sound like a 5-year-old having a sugar tantrum?

Studies have shown sugar to have potent effects on brain chemistry, affecting the opioid and dopamine receptors that are associated with mood and addiction. Sugar is a short-term analgesic, which means it actually relieves pain. Some researchers go so far as to call it a drug.

Based on this information, I do not recommend most patients use the

“eat all foods in moderation” idea. If a food is addictive, the only way to avoid “setting off” the addiction is to avoid that food completely for a short time till the addiction is gone. A qualified Wellness Doctor can take you through this process. I recommend patients stick to the basic rules of nutrition I was taught 32 years ago in Chiropractic College: Eat only whole, intact foods; avoid the more processed “foods” containing sugars and high-fructose corn syrup; white flour products; and soda. It can be a difficult transition — these foods are everywhere, especially during the holidays.

So many patients do well in improving their diets and notice great health gains, only to find that after a piece of birthday cake they end up on a “junk food” binge for two weeks.

The best weapon I can give my patients against overeating and obesity is knowledge; the facts about hormones and weight regulation and the problems with low-fat diets, but mostly the addictive nature of refined carbs. People who have a hard time quitting carbs are not weak willed — the problem is the foods themselves. They are literally addictive, and food manufacturers are doing everything they can to keep them that way. This is why I always test my patients for food allergies before putting them on a weight loss program.

If you’re allergic to foods, then you’ll crave these foods and you’ll never lose weight. Folks… weight gain is not your fault.

I came to be tested by Dr. Reggish because I couldn’t lose weight. I’ve been overweight for my whole life and have tried many programs, only to spend a lot of money, and not lose anything. Winning the Game!

When playing a game, do you have a strong desire to win? Chances are that if you’re healthy enough to be participating in the game, you have a desire to win. This innate desire to win not only feels good, it ensures the survival of our species on this planet!

One of the games we play on this wonderful planet is the game of life.

However, the difference between this game and almost every other game is that there are lots of winners. In fact, anyone who follows the real rules of this game can win.

Some of the most important rules have to do with sleep, nutrition, and the ability to handle stress. Bodies require a certain amount of quality sleep and proper nutrition in order to function optimally. Great stress is created in the body when sleep and nutrition requirements are ignored.

Although bodies are incredibly amazing, they can only withstand a certain amount of stress before beginning to break down. One of the first systems in the body to break down is the stress handling system, called the adrenal system. This system is comprised of two small walnut size organs that reside on top of the kidneys. While quite small, they are very important and extremely powerful.

When not in fight or flight, the adrenals control the digestive system, the immune system, and the cellular repair system. They produce 30 to 40 steroid hormones, including DHEA, a precursor to the sex-related hormones, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.

When the body goes into fight or flight, the adrenal glands shut off the production of the normal adrenal hormones as well as shutting down the immune system, the digestive system, and the cellular repair system.

The adrenal glands then begin to produce stress hormones which include 16

adrenaline and high quantities of cortisol.

The production of these stress hormones facilitates the stress response. The stress response includes the release of glucose from the liver, an increased heart rate, an increased rate of breathing, decreased digestive activity, a heightened sense of hearing, and increased muscular strength as the body diverts blood from the surface to the muscle tissue.

During the stress response, the body breaks down proteins in the form of muscle as well as draining the sugar stores from the liver. The production of energy no longer comes from breaking down fats. In the short term, this is an effective way to produce high quantities of energy to protect oneself; but when used for an extended period of time, it causes the body to become depleted, sending it into a disease state known as adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal fatigue is rampant these days.

Some of the symptoms include difficulty getting up in the morning, fatigue that is not relieved by sleep, lethargy, depression, cravings for salt or salty foods, increased effort to do everyday tasks, decreased sex drive and other hormonal imbalances, decreased ability to handle stress, increased time to recover from illness, injury or trauma, digestive problems, fuzzy thinking, memory problems, obesity, dizziness, fainting, allergies, cravings for caffeine and sugar, anxiety, infertility, persistent high blood pressure, arrhythmia’s, irritability, anxiety, panic attacks, sensitivity to bright lights, and being easily frightened. Feeling light headed or dizzy when getting up from laying or sitting down is another indication of adrenal fatigue (James L. Wilson, N.D., D.C., PhD., Adrenal Fatigue The 21st Century Stress Syndrome.) There are many more symptoms. This is just the short list.

Four tests that are used to determine

if a person has adrenal fatigue include the Muscle Response Test, the Paradoxical Pupillary Reaction Test, Ragland’s Test, and the Salvia Hormone Test. The Muscle Response Test is a kinesiological test which tests for a strong muscle response in three key areas. In adrenal fatigue, the body will not pass the muscle tests in the Muscle Response Test. In the Paradoxical Pupillary Reaction Test, a small light is shone into the pupil to test for dilation. In adrenal fatigue, the pupil will dilate and re-open over and over again.

The two most conclusive of these tests include Raglan’s Test and the Saliva Hormone Test when performed by a reputable lab. In Ragland’s Test, a blood pressure reading is taken while lying down quietly for a short period of time, approximately 5 minutes, and then immediately taken again upon standing.

The blood pressure (BP) reading should rise by 10 points at the time of standing. Failure of the BP to rise is a sign of adrenal fatigue. This test shows that the adrenal hormone responsible for constricting the blood vessels and ensuring blood flow to the brain is not functioning.

In the Saliva Hormone Test, saliva is collected four times throughout a day. Cortisol levels are measured through these samples and graphed.

When cortisol levels are appropriately high in the morning, you can wake up normally. If they drop appropriately low at bedtime, you can fall asleep easily at night. Adrenal fatigue is indicated when the cortisol levels do not follow this pattern.

If you think you may have adrenal fatigue, it is important to begin repairing your adrenal glands as soon as possible before more damage is done. You would be wise to find a holistic doctor who is well versed in dealing with adrenal issues to help you with the many aspects to recovery.

Rock of the Month: Moldavite We have a certain curiosity about the healing properties of stones. Folks are always wondering about the synergistic effects of using certain stones together. Receiving Love and the True Nature of Power Receiving support and love is one of the hardest things for people to do. Why does vulnerability and a feeling of weakness arise as love is received? Receiving is felt as weakness because we simply believe we are more powerful when we give. This belief comes from our hierarchical, scarcity-minded, competitive society in which we learn a power-over model verses a power-with. This belief also comes from our fierce individualism that has forgotten the value of community. From our mistaken definition of power we deny the very medicine we need to heal and express our gifts on the planet.

On the flip side as the giver, even if you subtly see receiving for yourself as weak, what message do you think you send to whom you give? I know I can feel when someone is feeling even slightly superior to me when they help me. Their help feels repressing, sticky, and degrading. They may be giving the most beautiful gift, but the intention behind it feels unloving. Power-with means to welcome another to the table rather than throwing scraps to them on the floor.

Giving while knowing that we are all an intrinsic strand in the web of life, frees the giver to be fully supported within his/her own personal life. The intention behind your giving will define your ability to receive. Give out of guilt or obligation, and you confine yourself, and the receiver.

My teachers in Spirit gave to me this understanding: “Know they don’t know, but speak to the part of them that does know.” Don’t assume people know what you know; this will cause you to not share what could have helped them.

Speak and give, focused on the wise, whole and capable being they truly are.

Your intent and inner self-perception shapes the benefit of your actions. Thich Nhat Hanh teaches that you must take responsibility for what is within, and then serve. This is what he calls a true practice of peace. Likewise, you must come into greater receptivity of love through people for your hands, feet and voice to be used in a way that truly empowers. Who we are teaches another, not what we say. Thus you can only give what you have received for yourself. Receive love and ask for help, because when you do give, you will spontaneously realize you are giving to yourself.

We can’t do it alone. ‘Inter-Be’ as Thich Nhat Hanh calls it, or Inter-independence as I understand it, is crucial to happiness. The tree does not seem weak for receiving the sun or water, so why do you not remain open to love? Your fear of not receiving what you want, or being told no, tricks you into pathological individualism.

The mind separate from love (ego) will always get us to attack the very thing that will save us. The killing of loving beings such as Christ, Gandhi, Martin Luther King is an external representation of what we do within. We isolate and push away love, clinging to stories and addictions as if they will fill us. We become the lonely ‘hungry ghost’, a symbol in Buddhism of a person with a tiny mouth, long neck and large swollen belly. The hungry ghost is never able to get full, constantly starving as it continues to consume.

Embodied Practice: Unseen Energetic Boundaries and Healing our Relationships Decades ago the idea and language of setting boundaries entered into the American consciousness. Popular books promoted the idea of emotional self-protection and limit setting in relationships. In Embodied Practice understanding, a boundary is not a cognitive idea nor is it defined by our words or actions. It is an energetic container, enclosing our personal space, our electromagnetic field. This field, commonly called an aura, is generated by our vascular, or circulatory system.

This flow charges the field, creating a true energetic boundary, extending out 18-20 inches from the body: in the front, back, above the head and below the feet, and out to each side. To have a truly effective boundary, one must also change the breath of life, which changes the outside of the aura.

The lined and defined outside perimeter of our field is the first energetic interface with the world. So, for example if we tend to absorb other people’s moods, their anxiety or grief, a well-defined field would block their energy from entering our space. Similarly, if we tend to be uncontained, offering unwanted suggestions, sharing unwelcome information or opinions, leaking our anxiety or other emotions and intruding into other people’s space, then a welldefined outside edge of our aural field will support us in staying contained.

When even one person in a relationship can maintain a well-defined outside edge of their electromagnetic field, relationship conflicts often begin to heal. In embodied understanding, all things are created first in energetic form. Boundaries organically emerge from this contained state: words and actions naturally flow out that keep us contained--not overtaken or misused by 26

others, spilling our energy and emotions onto them; nor absorbing theirs.

The ability to sense and contain our energy is one energetic position of humans, which thousands of years ago ceased to be consistently passed down from one generation to the next.

In Embodied Practice, students regain the skills and abilities to sense, move and contain their own energy. They strengthen the containment of their electromagnetic field, the energetic birthplace of boundaries, through the practice.

Many find that their relationships at home and work transform as they gain the energetic skills to strengthen the boundaries of their electromagnetic field.

One student, we’ll call Anna, found her relationships transforming as she gained skills.

Anna’s lack of containment with her teenage children, offering streams of unsolicited advice and comments on their lives, leaking her anxiety into their energetic spaces, left them angry and irritated with her. They found continual fault with what she did and said. They withdrew into their rooms, immersing in their i-pods and cell phones. Occasionally, forceful and loud arguments erupted. They expressed contempt, instead of gratitude. She absorbed this into her energy system.

The grief and anxiety this created for her spilled out onto them. Without the ability to sense where her energy field ended and theirs began, she intruded and bludgeoned into their electromagnetic fields. They were attempting to keep her energy out of their fields, so they could sense, and define themselves, but without the energetic skills to do so, they resorted to closing her out.

Anna’s Embodied Practice supported her in energetically charging the outside perimeter of her aural field, making it less permeable, and so she leaked less of her emotions onto her children.

As she gained skill in containing her

energy, and ultimately how to move in pulsating rhythm with her children, their anger and irritation began to subside.

When conflict did arise, she no longer absorbed their words or energy. Not having to work so hard to push her energetically away, they opened more and their electromagnetic field pulsated in closer rhythm with hers. Know Thy Self

ACIM. Everything else was a string of opportunities leading me in this direction.

The universe has a way of bringing into our awareness what is essential for our spiritual and evolutionary growth. For me, it was A Course In Miracles. Integrating ACIM into my physical life and spiritual being was a process of self-discovery and transformation, which still continues today.

In the beginning of my “spiritual awakening”, the universe made it clear that I needed to take time off from my personal training business to heal my physical body. I was resisting the change at first, leading to more of what I did not want. After much pain and consideration I chose to take care of me, and went into seclusion. This “quiet time” was imperative in order to heal my mental and emotional distress, thus healing the physical.

I began a morning and evening routine of meditation, reading and listening to spiritual material, and saying affirmations.

During the day if I felt my energy being depleted, I would make time to do one of the above. I began to feel better within a month, but my physical body took more “time” to catch up. I began to realize that we can intellectually understand something, however it takes “time” for the physical to embody it.

After reading an array of spiritual books and exploring many different energy methods, I began to narrow down what worked for me. The work of Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson and Caroline Myss inspired a passion in me that resulted in my life purpose, helping others heal through energy medicine.

It is my belief that healing is not a “cookie cutter” approach, so I would suggest finding spiritual and physical methods that work for you. You are a spiritual being having a human experience, and you need both to integrate for a healing experience. I also believe that there is that one “thing” which transforms you and stays a part of you forever -- for me it is

Arhatic Yoga – Evolutionary Development of the Soul (Part II) Previously we discussed how Arhatic Yoga is the perfect tool for the modern mystic because it incorporates life’s happenings into the teachings. It provides the aspirant with a clear road map to heal the body, mind and soul and restore happiness, joy and wellbeing.

When the causal point of one issue is cleared, improvements in many areas of a person’s life seem to happen all at once. This seems miraculous to some and impossible to others. But this is how it works when you change the underlying energy of a condition; you change everything for everything is related to everything else.

Arhatic Yoga was developed by Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, the modern founder of Pranic Healing.

One reason these teachings are so powerful is that Master Choa has distilled many teachings (both ancient and modern) down to their core essence. He has translated the esoteric into the practical. His brilliance can be seen in his synthesis of yoga styles.

The Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, refers to four types of yoga. This is different from the various styles of yoga practiced today in the western world. These types are:

1. Devotion to the Supreme God & Reverence to the Spiritual Teacher 2. Purification 3. Meditation 4. Tithing and Service 5. Study Let’s briefly elaborate on each of these.

Raja Yoga is what most in the Western world recognizes as yoga. This label applies to the eightfold path taught

by Patanjali in his Yoga-Sûtra. It includes meditation, asanas (postures) and breath control (pranayama).

Kriya Yoga, an advanced Raja Yoga technique, was popularized by Paramahansa Yogananda.

Karma Yoga is the yoga of action and focuses on service toward others.

Mother Theresa is an excellent example of someone who practiced Karma Yoga.

Jnana Yoga is the yoga of knowledge.

It requires intellect, wisdom and inner reflection. Its goal is to understand and discern the difference between the little self and the Higher Self.

Bhakti Yoga is the yoga of devotion.

Many religions are based on Bhakti Yoga calling for prayers and devotion to God.

In times past, these paths would be focused on separately perhaps over numerous lifetimes. Today a synthesized approach is recommended to accelerate the advancement of the soul. Arhatic Yoga accomplishes this through the foundation of the 5 Pillars upon which it stands.

• Bhakti Yoga (yoga of devotion)

The 5 Pillars are:

• Raja yoga (yoga of kriya) • Karma Yoga (yoga of action)

1. Devotion to the Supreme Being and Spiritual Teacher is like plugging into the source. It is an unlimited supply of pure Divine Energy if you know how to access it. It is the source of guidance and connection to all. When practicing Arhatic Yoga you can be of any religion, for Arhatic Yoga’s teachings are core to all religions.

2. Purification. However, once plugged into the Source, the amount of energy that can be accessed is limited to how clean the system is for delivering the energy. This is why purification is so important. No matter how much energy you can access if it can’t be delivered because your chakras and meridians are clogged, it won’t help. In fact, when too much energy cannot be properly distributed, it is either wasted or can cause illness.

3. Meditations help cleanse and activate the system. They support the first two pillars. There are many different kinds of meditations. You may have even experienced some of them. Rather than using meditation in an ad hoc manner, Arhatic Yoga provides a specific plan of how often to meditate and which meditations to use. Each meditation has a specific goal some of which are to 1). Cleanse and charge the system, 2). Slowly, safely and gently activate kundalini energy, 3). Activate the heart and crown chakras and 4). Enhance awareness with and connect to the Higher Soul.

4. Tithing and Service is not what you might expect to find in a program for the Evolutionary Development of the Soul but it is an important component. But when you understand why, it makes perfect sense. Tithing and service are like an insurance policy. It introduces the concept of karma and teaches you how to overcome negative karma and generate positive karma. For indeed when you die, any karma you generated, good and bad, goes with you into the next lifetime. Why not resolve negative karma now so that you do not have to keep repeating painful lessons in this life and in others to follow.

5. Study is the fifth pillar and helps develop the mind and mental faculty. When doing powerful mediations there is a tendency to want to spend your time in the inner world. However, balance is required and Arhatic Yoga is designed to provide you with just that. The tools help you to integrate today’s modern fast paced life with the Divine.

It is within the fifth pillar that we are taught inner reflection and learn to accept responsibility for our creations.

If a person were to ask what one word best describes Arhatic Yoga, it would have to be “Self-Mastery.” Through control of thoughts, emotions and actions; the modern mystic has learned the secrets of the ages. He has transcended the lower vehicles and ascended to higher planes of existence. He is in this world but not of it. He has in fact realized Heaven on Earth and is the quintessence of the Divine in physical form.

Good Samaritan...

A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her and continued on.

Finally he went to the check-out line, but she got in front of him.

“Pardon me,” she said, “I’m sorry if my staring at you has made you feel uncomfortable. It’s just that you look just like my son, who I haven’t seen in a long time.”

“That’s a shame,” replied the young man, “is there anything I can do for you?”

“Yes,” she said, “As I’m leaving, can you say ‘Good bye, Mother!’?

It would make me feel so much better.”

“Sure,” answered the young man.

So, when the old woman was leaving, he called out, “Goodbye, Mother!”

As he stepped up to the checkout counter, he saw that his total was $127.50. “How can that be?” he asked, “I only purchased a few things!”

The clerk replied, “Your mother said that you would pay for her.”

MARRIAGE...

You may have heard about a new bride who was a bit embarrassed to be known as a honeymooner. So when she and her husband pulled up to the hotel, she asked him if there was any way that they could make it appear that they had been married a long time.

He responded, “Sure. You carry the suitcases!”

Parenting and the Orders of Love Recent trends in parenting styles often place the importance of the children above the relationship between the parents. This upsets the natural order of things. According to Bert Hellinger, creator of Family Constellations, when children take precedence over their parents’ relationship, the children develop a sense of being unsafe.

Children intuitively recognize that when the relationship of the parents is good and sound, they are safe and secure.

Hellinger maintains that children feel best when they see that their father honors and respects himself, then honors and respects their mother.

They also feel the strength of their mother honoring and respecting herself, and then honoring and respecting their father. When honor and respect between the parents freely flows, the children become a continuation and fulfillment of their relationship with one another—the completion of their love, if you will. This in turn creates a sense of security and freedom in their children.

Although most of Hellinger’s early theories were based on the relationship between two parents—a man and a woman and their biological children— more recent theories indicates that with divorced parents who have remarried, as well as for same sex couples with children, these same dynamics apply.

When parents allow their love for the children to come before their love for each other, and the respect and honor of their relationship, then the natural order is disturbed, and the family is in danger of becoming dysfunctional. To restore balance and reinstate the Orders of Love, the relationship between the parents must take its rightful place in the family system.

Whereas in the relationship between the parents involves and honors the need for a balance of giving and taking,

the relationship between parents and children is not the same. Parents give and children take. When children are given too much, guilt is instilled in them and success becomes challenging. Or when too much is expected from children, and they become parent like, happiness as adults is difficult to achieve without hard work.

When these natural balances are ignored, or when parents have been inadequate as parents, the children grow up unhappily without much success in their lives—from being given too much, being given too little, and from becoming parent like at an early age and expected to care for their sickly or disturbed or alcoholic parent. However, when children grow up and are able to overcome the deficiencies of their childhood and to live a successful and satisfying life, they let go of old resentments towards their parents and can live fully, successfully and happily.

It’s important to note, that although it is not addressed in this article, the early death or abrupt separation from a parent early in life can have lasting effects on children into adulthood, and will be explored in a future article in the BMSG. Systemic Family Constellations helps individuals discover the hidden loyalties and entanglements with the ancestors, and resentments and anger towards parents. Constellations brings reconciliation and restores the natural order, thereby bringing with it freedom, success and happiness to all.

3 Easy Intuition Tools

Let your eyes get a little unfocused as you gaze at the slips of paper. One piece of paper usually starts to stand out. It may be that your eyes go to that slip of paper repeatedly.

Other things that could happen are that one name seems to be in a bolder text or the paper seems to be illuminated. Use this as your right brain/intuitive brain input. It’s always good to check the person’s credentials, of course. That’s the left brain/logical side of the answer.

This process works whether you want a new accountant, attorney, nanny, realtor, doctor, or anyone else to help you, if you remain neutral and don’t try to impose your desires on the result.

Clairsentience for Judging Character For this exercise start with two pictures or names. One would be a mass murderer or other dark soul, such as Hitler.

For the other, choose a saintly figure like Mother Teresa. Put the pictures or names in front of you.

Start the exercise with a prayer, blessing your activity and asking for the highest and best answer to be revealed through your feelings, clairsentiently. Relax with deep belly breaths.

Ask your body to signal you with a feeling as you touch first one picture or name, and pause to notice what your body feels.

Pay attention to where the feeling shows up. It could be a chill or warm feeling throughout your whole body, a feeling in your heart, throat, belly, behind your eyes, or in any number of other places. You will probably feel a heavy, uncomfortable energy when you touch the picture/name of the evil person and feel lightness or peace when you touch the other one.

Try this process with the information upside down to see if you have gotten the idea. This is your body’s excellent intuitive communication to you so it’s important to notice the precise way the information is expressed in your body. Now touch the other paper and repeat the exercise.

Now place a third picture or name between the other two.

This could be someone about whom you have a question.

Touch the papers on the ends to establish your differing feelings for the two personality extremes. Then touch the one you’ve added to the middle. How does it feel? Do you feel peaceful and trusting with that person’s energy? Do you feel some discomfort? This is good intuitive information to file away in your mind.

If it’s intuition and not your emotions you can count on it to be telling you something true. Write down your impressions to see if experiences with the person you chose prove to be accurate. And your intuitive information will be accurate if you don’t try to get a certain result!

Clairaudience for the Microwave Let’s end with an ultra-simple tool. When you are ready to microwave something, pause and request that you hear the timing to use. For example, if you are reheating a cup of coffee, you could have a thought that says 30 seconds. This would be the time to program into the microwave.

Remember that clairaudience usually comes as a thought rather than as an out loud message. If you trust what you hear in your mind when you ask for clairaudient input, your accuracy will be very high. If the number comes into your mind visually, turn off the projector in your mind’s eye and ask that it come as a thought instead. You want to hear the numbers in your mind.

Practice. Practice some more. Make building your intuition a priority in your life and you will be delighted with the results.

Freedom From Dieting

defense mechanism to create a sense of safety in the body.

Imagine what it would feel like to maintain a healthy body weight without having to follow a diet, exercise program, or other weight loss plan.

Imagine never stepping on a scale again! Imagine eating whatever you wanted and not holding onto extra weight. Can you feel the freedom in this approach to eating? Based on my own healing journey with food, fluctuating body weight, excessive exercise, and experience with binge eating, I can say that it is absolutely possible for one’s body weight to balance out naturally and let go of dieting once and for all.

When working with clients who desire a healthy relationship with food and a balanced body weight without dieting, the first place we start is cultivating compassion for the part of them that uses food to feel better. Often, the part of us that overeats is not the rational adult who knows that eating three pieces of cake will make them feel overstuffed and sick. Instead, it is often a different (usually younger) part of us that thinks it feels better to be stuffed with cake because at least temporarily we are numb, and our guilt, sadness, grief (or whatever emotion) is more bearable.

Seeing this part with compassion helps to break the cycle of blame and shame that often drives overeating and yo-yo dieting.

To understand how and why this is possible, it’s important to know that the body is self-healing, and as such, is always working towards staying in balance. For example, when you get a cut, the innate wisdom of your body knows exactly what to do so that you will heal. You don’t have to tell your blood vessels to contract to slow the bleeding or instruct the white blood cells to accumulate at the site of the cut. This is the same way a balanced body uses food. It knows what and how much to eat to maintain a healthy weight. You don’t need to count calories, exercise excessively, or deprive yourself of the foods you enjoy.

Your body knows what foods to eat to keep you healthy and at a balanced weight, just like it knows how to heal from a cut. The foods that taste good to you are the ones that your body needs to stay balanced, and you will know how much you need to eat by noticing when you feel full.

However, when we are out of balance emotionally, pain overrides the innate wisdom of our body. In this place of suffering, people use food to feel better and to stuff down painful emotions. When we eat to numb emotions, we become disconnected from our body’s wisdom and are no longer able to determine what we really need to feel balanced. From this place of disconnection, we might turn to a diet with the hope that it will help us lose weight; however, when food is being used to stuff down emotions, no diet or weight loss program will give you long-term results. From what I have seen, people eventually go back to using food to feel better and the weight comes back unless healing work is done.

It’s also important to note that extra weight is a padding that acts as a protective barrier to help people feel safe, which is why it is so common for people who have experienced trauma to struggle with overeating. Even for those individuals who have not experienced trauma, holding extra weight is an unconscious 42

Another important step is cultivating more body awareness, both while eating and at other times during the day. This helps to strengthen the connection between the innate wisdom of the body and the conscious mind, so that we can better listen to what we really need. Sometimes we think we need an extra bowl of ice cream, when we really need to cry, talk to a friend, or get a hug. A great resource that speaks to the importance of body awareness, self-love, and mindfulness in healing one’s relationship with food is the book, “Women, Food, and God” by Geneen Roth.

By using these tools and others, a person can release the need to overeat and can be freed from the endless cycle of weight gain and loss, and the resulting shame and blame that ensues.

Doing this work heals our relationship with food and reconnects us to our innate body wisdom, which guides us to the foods, food quantities, and types of movement that will allow us to maintain a healthy body weight naturally.

Why have a past life regression?

Having learned past life regression from several teachers including Dr. Brian Weiss and Dolores Cannon, I know that it can be very helpful for a number of problems. Many fears and phobias are the result of situations that have occurred in previous lives. In addition, many times we have learned unhealthy patterns of behavior which carry over to our present life.

Here’s an interesting case. Years ago, a client was executed by a cruel leader.

It turned out that in this life the former cruel leader was the father of the client.

She and her father never got along and once she grew up she had very little to do with her father. You may think this is an isolated case, but we often come back with many of the same people we knew in previous lives. If a person wronged us in a past lifetime, or if we had a bad relationship with a person, the way we deal with this individual may be influenced by what occurred in the past.

Most of us have had many previous lives. Of course, not every problem we have today is the result of a past life. However, there is almost always one lifetime that is affecting us today.

When I do a past-life regression, I have the person go to the life that is most relevant to the present lifetime. It may not always be a life where something

unpleasant happened. However, there could still be important information. One client I had was very unhappy with her partner. During the regression she went to a lifetime where she was just like her current spouse. By becoming aware of this, she was able to have more compassion for her partner. Another person who was having a difficult life went to a lifetime which was very uncomplicated and peaceful. Seeing that she had this kind of lifetime before had a very positive impact on her now.

There are always good lessons to be learned from our previous lifetimes.

Even if your current problems have nothing to do with the past, there is still a very good reason to do this kind of session. With the method I use, which was developed by Dolores Cannon, you not only experience a past life, but you then go to the Super-conscious level.

This is the part of the session where you can get help for any problem you are experiencing now.

Many individuals that I see have problems with their physical health.

When we go to the Super-conscious level, they are able to find out why they have the problem (Not the obvious reason but the overriding reason or karmic reason). When we ask the enlightened beings on the other side what is the best way to deal with the problem, they are always willing to give the best and most truthful answer. choices, or not acknowledging our feelings, also separates us from the inner knowing of our divinity and how we create our own existence.

We give energy to our ego, our shadow self, and it grows. What we give energy and focus to always grows.

Do you ever feel vulnerable, shy, small and afraid, withdrawing from trying something new? When we have this feeling of vulnerability, we are not connected and acting fully from Source. When we have a strong connection with Source, we feel and know that we are invulnerable, totally worthy of being, existing and acting in our highest good.

Vulnerability means we are in the state, the mind of materialism, focused on the body, money, relationships, career, what we can get, in this plane. Our connection with the Creator is not the primary focus of our being. The primary goal for our life is to support our Soul, connect fully with the Creator, our Divine Source, and not be waylaid by the distractions of the material world. We are meant to learn from the experiences and choices we make on the material plane; to learn to make those choices from a divine perspective towards our highest good, our own self-actualization, and contribute to the healing of ourself and the world.

The material plane is the classroom for our soul’s purpose -- to become self-actualized and fully responsible for our experiences. As we are all One, healing and achieving self-actualization helps the total vibration of the world, leading to the healing, actualizing and oneness of the world and the universe. There is a part of us that is aware of this oneness.

There is also the inner knowing that the way we experience life is due to the choices we make and what our inner thoughts and energy goes towards. For example, if our energy is towards lack of spirit, that’s what we receive and how we perceive the world. If we fill ourself with extremes, it will be reflected in an unbalanced life, and the world will appear unbalanced and full of danger and drama.

An unbalanced life leaves one feeling vulnerable, like standing up in a boat. The ego loves this and will focus on the drama, further distracting us from the primary goal. There is a lot of energy in drama. The peace, love and calmness that comes with unity with the Creator, our Divine Source, may feel uncomfortable, creating inner and outer conflict at first.

There seems to be less pushing of outward energy, rather, the focus is inward, and we have the opportunity to look at and accept our shadow self. Not taking responsibility for our 44

Being creators of our own existence, we can get comfortable, as weird as it sounds, to habits and limiting beliefs that we adopt in order to have perceived protection, invulnerability.

We get comfortable hiding within our shadow selves/ego. It feels like home, even if we don’t like it. Everyone has something they would like to change. Change requires either a commitment to one’s Self, or we can wait until we have a crisis and then choose to change (or not). Feeling our feelings and acknowledging our beliefs, connecting with our Source, helps guide us if we give ourselves fully to the process, fully trusting in the Divine guidance, to grow and become responsible creators.

As we become responsible creators and allow our connection with Source, we experience less vulnerability, therefore the vibration changes around us to reflect that.

The vibration is like the pebble in the pond, creating rings of vibration and change. This is how we are part of the change, the growth towards healing, love and actualization of the world.

We and our connection with Divine Source, our Creator, are invincible! And, the world comes with us, united in love and acceptance, knowing invincibility.

Massage, breath and holistic health Our emotions, mental health, physical body and spiritual body are intrinsically related. When we are thriving and experiencing vitality, all of the above display certain characteristics. For example, our heart has a certain beat for love and a very different one for fear; we also have a breath cycle for love and a very different one for fear.

We can only experience one emotion at a time, and the mental stories we tell ourselves generate our emotions. If we physically generate a smile, our mental body will match the emotional energy with the matching thought.

When we are in love, our cells and organs excel and we are in alignment with our soul’s identity -- we become radiant. Each system or body has a knock-on affect upon the other; we can physically and intentionally breathe to known cycles. This knock-on affect will cause our heart to beat to its optimum rhythm of love, we will experience the emotions of love, and our mental state will match these emotions. This is meditation in essence. We can intentionally begin this cycle mentally with thoughts of gratitude, etc., which will have the knock-on affect of changing our emotions, and then the heart and breath rate will synchronize and create radiant vitality.

We can also do this physically. A trained massage therapist will ground themselves before each session and continue to maintain a conscious proper diaphragm breath throughout the whole massage. This is referred to as ‘holding the space’ or ‘creating a healing energetic workspace’. You might think breathing is a natural part of living and if you are reading this you are definitely breathing! For many of us, the last time we were breathing properly was when we were born -- but how did this change? Life and its stressors, fears and excitement is how we moved away from natural breathing.

Learning the science of breathing through techniques that incorporate low, mid and high level breathing, along with creating a full breath and practicing daily so that it becomes your natural competency, is how to return to this natural state.

Many of us have become accustomed to breathing from the upper level of the chest and lungs known as high breathing, and throughout the day we frequently shallow breathe and unconsciously hold our breath. This type of breathing exerts far too much energy and reaps no benefit to your internal systems or organs, except to keep you alive. Learning how to breathe as many yogis call, “the complete breath” is the most beneficial to your health.

In addition, there are many forms of breathing besides the complete breath that can enhance and heal specific challenges such as poor circulation, and reducing stress and anxiety in the nervous system. They also increase brain function and improve energy levels.

August Food of the Month: Amaranth “What should I eat for breakfast?” A question I am asked all the time. My answer is always the same, soup. I usually get strange looks for my answer because in our culture it seems foreign.

Our culture is used to sweet foods for breakfast -- sugar cereal, muffins or donuts. Although these choices can be an occasional treat, a staple breakfast should be more nutritional.

Traditional cultures eat leftovers, soups, or a whole grain gruel for the first meal of the day. It is easy to make soups and you can put all kinds of different vegetables, whole grains, and beans in a breakfast soup. All the foods you need to get you started for a healthy day.

Amaranth is a good whole grain to put in your soups because it will help thicken the soup. And being one of the signature whole grains of the summer, it will not impart heat when eaten every day. Amaranth was the sacred food of the Aztecs. It is so nutrient dense that when it is consumed, there is no malnutrition. Very high in calcium and protein, it is classified as a whole grain, which means it gives you energy by releasing glucose very slowly into your system.

Amaranth is a member of the goosefoot family related to quinoa. It is the smallest of the whole grains and one plant can produce up to 50 thousand seeds! Because it is so small, it can be

difficult to cook and be enjoyed. I find it combines very well with other grains, quinoa in particular. When amaranth cooks up, it becomes very creamy, almost gummy, and tends to have a thick consistency. When you put it in soups it thickens the soup and adds a sweet nutty taste. I suggest you make a big pot of soup one day a week when you have time, and then you will have it made for breakfast all week.

An ingredient you may have a question about is wakame. It is a sea vegetable.

You will find it dried in a plastic bag sold at your local health food store. Sea vegetables are the most nutrient dense food on the planet. They are high in iron, calcium, B vitamins, protein, and have strong cleansing properties. The taste is slightly bitter, so don’t use a lot. And because they are so nutrient dense, a little bit goes a long way.

Summertime Quinoa Amaranth Corn Soup 10 cups water 2 ears organic corn 3/4 cup quinoa 1/4 cup amaranth 8 inches wakame (soaked and cut up) 1 onion (diced) 1 lb. asparagus (12 inch pieces) 2 carrots (diced) 1 yellow summer squash (diced) 1/2 cup minced kale 3 T. brown rice vinegar 3 tsp. sea salt 1 1/2 tsp.

Bring water to a boil in a soup pot. Cut the corn off the cobs. Put cobs in water, let boil for 5 minutes. Remove cobs and discard. Add the quinoa and amaranth, let water come back up to a boil. Add the wakame. Add the onions, asparagus, carrots, and summer squash. Let the soup come back up to a boil in between each vegetable.

Reduce to a simmer, cover and simmer 15 minutes. Add the corn, continue simmering for another 10 minutes. Turn off heat, add minced kale, brown rice vinegar, sea salt, and basil. Stir and let sit 5 minutes before serving.
