What’s going on, Penguins! My name is Brandon Choy and I’ll be your new Division News Editor for this term. I hope you guys all had a great summer break and are refreshed to take on a new year of school, life, and Key Club! I’m ecstatic to serve you guys quality and informative newsletters this year for our division; with my own dedication and hard work, I won’t let you guys down! Thanks for reading this issue of The Pingu Post and I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I did making it! Since this was my first issue, things may look kinda simple, blocky, and uninteresting as I am experimenting with new designs and learning new software; but I promise to make future issues more conformed and organized. If you have any advice, I’m always open to new suggestions! If you would like to submit an article about an event you were truly passionate about and or enjoyed very much, pop me an email at d34s.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com or send me a friend request on Facebook and we can talk further. Again, thanks for your time and enjoy! Keep on waddling, Brandon Choy ^^

A LETTER FROM YOUR LTG Penguins, I hope you've all enjoyed a summer full of service, leadership and family! Thank you to all the wonderful penguins who came out to this summer’s DCMs, your dedication constantly inspires me to improve the meetings however possible. One of my biggest goals as your Lieutenant Governor is to provide all members with a service opportunity that caters to their unique passions and interests, and empower members to make a difference. This summer, I created a Google form where members tell me what type of volunteering they're interested in and what locations work for them so that I can research and find them volunteer opportunities within a week. As summer comes to a close, I can no longer guarantee finding opportunities within a week, but I can promise to provide members with the necessary resources to find the perfect opportunities. I want to continue to emphasize the power of using our individual strengths and passions to serve others and better the community. If you or someone you know is looking for a way to truly make a difference, please contact me and I would be honored to help make that happen. During the fall, our fundraising focus is Pediatric Trauma Program, or PTP for short. In short, PTP aims to prevent and treat unintentional injury in youth. When I first heard about PTP, I struggled to see the significance of it; until I learned that unintentional injury is the #1 killer of youth in America--and that 90% of these deaths can be prevented. Our divisions new PTP coordinator is Michele Tom, she will be further educating the division on PTP, and what we can do to help.
There are many exciting events planned this fall, from Regional Training Conference (RTC) to Fall Rally North(FRN); all of which I highly encourage members to attend. I also want to encourage members to nominate themselves and others for monthly recognition. If you think you or someone you know deserves to be recognized as member, officer or LTG's choice for the month; please email me their name and why you're nominating them. Certificates are given at each DCM. To conclude, I want to thank all the members for their service and dedication to the organization, it is you that makes this division so wonderful. I don't say this nearly enough, but I want to make sure all the purple penguins know that I'm here for them. As much as I care how you're all doing as Key Clubbers, I care much more about how you're all doing as people. I am always here if you ever want someone to talk about anything, or need someone to listen. I would be honored to have the gift of getting to know you all on more personal terms.
I love getting feedback on what members would like to see more or less of within the division, so please do not hesitate to let me know. Good luck with school and I look forward to reuniting with the penguins at future events!
Thank you for all that you do, Your Lieutenant Governor

By Natalie Duong / MVHS ICON was unarguably one of the best experiences I've ever had. I learned many new things that could be applied to my life in and out of Key Club, and made many new friends and great memories. The trip went from fun adventures with other Key Clubbers on Region tour to enriching workshops during the convention to sharing a room with people that I got to bond with and learn about. Next year being the 100th anniversary for Kiwanis, I'd highly recommend going to next year's ICON in Indianapolis for a mostly likely even greater experience, that I plan and hope to go to myself!

By Cindy Ho / MVHS On July 3-6 (however Region 17 began it’s tour on June 30), Key Club International held its 71st Annual International Convention in sunny Anaheim, California! Over 1,600 Key Clubbers from all across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean were busy electing the 2014-2015 International Board, voting on amendments, attending workshops, hearing about updates from The Eliminate Project, and of course representing our districts in spirit battles! Being the host district, the Cali-Nev-Ha district had its opportunity to show the rest of Key Club International why we feel fine all of the time. During International Convention, I created numerous memories with Key Clubbers from all over Key Club International from each workshop, hours of caucus and House of Delegates, and dancing the night away at the two dances. A few of my favorite memories from International Convention include the Pacific Northwest Key Clubbers on the first day of Region Tour during our dinner at Fire and Ice as they were the first Key Clubbers we met outside of our district. We had bonded doing numerous ice breakers and I cheered my heart out for the CNH District during the Meet and Greet. I also was able to meet many attendees that I would be spending the next couple days with. I am so blessed to be able to have attended International Convention and represent the Cali-Nev-Ha district, and hope that I’ll be able to see YOU at the 72nd International Convention with the rest of the K-Family in Indianapolis, Indiana!

July DCM
On July 28th, Lynbrook hosted our Division Council Meeting at Calabazas Park where Key Clubbers made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that were donated to Loaves and Fishes of San Jose. The Key Clubbers who attended this event were always on-task and worked very efficiently as a team. They were given 40 minutes to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches using all of the bread given to them, and then go about the scavenger hunt Lynbrook officers prepared for them. Therefore, the faster they made the sandwiches, the sooner they could start their scavenger hunt. Each member of the top two teams of the scavenger hunt won a cup of delicious pearl milk tea. The scavenger hunt included tasks ranging from taking a selfie with an animal to telling a stranger about the Pediatric Trauma Program. Though some instructions were confusing, groups still managed to work as a team to overcome obstacles together. Overall, Key Clubbers enjoyed the July DCM and were able to meet Key Clubbers from outside their home club.

July DCM
This DCM was a very appreciative event where our lieutenant governor, Noori Tawakol gave personalized certificates of recognition not only to the member and officer of the month, but whoever she thought did an outstanding job within the past month. I was honored to be chosen for this award, the Division 34 South Lieutenant Governor’s Choice for the month of July for keeping a close bond with lieutenant governor and helping her out during the month. Besides the award, I did enjoy the event with all of its creative activities such as the scavenger hunt where our division was split up into 4 different teams and were required to do various tasks; naming all lieutenant governors within our region, doing the “How Do You Feel?” cheer to strangers, reciting the Key Club pledge, and many more. The first team to finish all tasks first was awarded with pearl milk tea, which I was lucky enough to be a part of! Overall, I thought this DCM was success; however I would like to see more activities that reach out more to the members of the division because there are those who are fairly new to Key Club and we must make them feel welcomed to be part of such an organization.

RTC September 27th-28th 2014
Alec Deng | PAHS “The Region 9-15-17 Training Conference is arguably my favorite Key Club event. It embodies exactly what I believe is the Key Club experience; you will make friends, learn about service, and grow not only as a leader, but as an individual. Make sure you don’t pass up this opportunity to attend the best RTC in the entire district!”

PTP WHAT IS PTP? PTP stands for Pediatric Trauma Program. Pediatric Trauma, otherwise known as unintentional injury, is the leading cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States. More children die from unintentional injury than any other diseases combined.
WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF PEDIATRIC TRAUMA ? A child who suffers from head or even brain injury because he or she was not wearing a bicycle helmet. A baby who was injured from tumbling down the stairs because no safety gate was present. A child who drowns in a household pool because proper alarms and fencing were not installed.
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF PTP? The Pediatric Trauma Program is based of the principle that all injuries are predictable and preventable. Together, the CNH District aims to develop local projects to reduce the number of children who are killed or injured by trauma
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE MONEY DONATED TO PTP? The funds donated to PTP provide grants to partner hospital, which allows them to create or expand community outreach programs, and the funds provide grants to Kiwanis to allow them to help more children in more communities. The funds are also used to provide PTP safety items to families to ensure that all children live happy, healthy, and safe lives.
All proceeds from Fall Rally North will be donated to PTP!
