CNH KEY CLUB | FEBRUARY 2015 | VOLUME 1 | ISSUE 6

I hope you've all had a wonderful January. It was great seeing so many friendly, dedicated members at Conclave this year where we elected the promising next Lieutenant Governor, Alexa Delapena. It was also spectacular seeing so, so many of you at Mr. Key Club! Thank you so much for attending and making it such a big success. The money raised will make a huge impact and provide so many immunizations that will save so many families from losing a child. I would like to especially thank Jason Leong, Regita Soetandar, and Mary Kim Delemos for working so hard to plan this event since August. Without them, the pageant could not have been possible.

I cannot believe that February is the last full month of my term! It's gone by so fast! This month’s Division Council Meeting will be DCON prep, be sure to come out! We will be creating spirit items and practicing cheers to ensure we have the best possible District Convention! It will also be the very last DCM of my term :( One of my biggest goals from the beginning of my term until now was to ensure that every member has the opportunity to volunteer doing something they are passionate about. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities and coming up short, feel free to contact me and I would love to help you out!

PAST EVENTS

“We discussed fundraising ideas for upcoming holidays like Valentine’s Day; every school shared their ideas to help out other schools. We also had an icebreaking activity for a bit, just to pass the time. After that, we had some trivia questions, and Noori handed out hilarious prizes to the winners. Since we finished our DCM early, we ended up waiting for a while before moving on with the other districts. “

“Attending Conclave with my fellow clubbers was a pretty different experience for me. Typically we do community service together and scream and shout together in joy, however being there really opened my eyes to another side of Key Club as a whole community/family. As a delegate, I held a lot of responsibility in putting in my vote for who was going to be LTG and that moment helped me realize that how much I am a part of Key Club and that I can make a difference. Overall, Conclave was a really rewarding experience and I encourage all of you to come next year!

PTP WHAT IS PTP? PTP stands for Pediatric Trauma Program. Pediatric Trauma, otherwise known as unintentional injury, is the leading cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States. More children die from unintentional injury than any other diseases combined.

WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF PEDIATRIC TRAUMA ? A child who suffers from head or even brain injury because he or she was not wearing a bicycle helmet. A baby who was injured from tumbling down the stairs because no safety gate was present. A child who drowns in a household pool because proper alarms and fencing were not installed.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF PTP? The Pediatric Trauma Program is based of the principle that all injuries are predictable and preventable. Together, the CNH District aims to develop local projects to reduce the number of children who are killed or injured by trauma

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE MONEY DONATED TO PTP? The funds donated to PTP provide grants to partner hospital, which allows them to create or expand community outreach programs, and the funds provide grants to Kiwanis to allow them to help more children in more communities. The funds are also used to provide PTP safety items to families to ensure that all children live happy, healthy, and safe lives.
