Stand Up Sisters CIC Stand Up Sisters is a women’s empowerment and arts organisation led by and for women with lived experience of mental health issues, substance misuse and sexual/ domestic violence based in Bolton.

We support women to fulfil their hopes, dreams and ambitions. We do this by supporting vulnerable women to find their creative voices and therefore their voice in society and by raising educational attainment. We hold values of respect despite differences in opinion, shared ownership of decision making within the group, collaboration, innovation and strengths. Alongside this we are working towards raising academic achievements by running creative courses and supporting people to gain qualifications, which will lead to increasing the places and spaces women feel confident and increasing employability. Stand Up Sisters was set up in October 2018. We have worked with over 200 women who tell us that they are growing in confidence and moving closer towards education and employment because of the work we do. Women are going back to study for PHDs, training to become therapists, learning how to set up small businesses as well as feeling more inspired to try vocational college courses. This year we have exhibited a billboard funded by Achieve Salford CVS with work created by women with lived experience of substance misuse and mental health issues. As well as running workshops in stand up comedy, theatrical writing, poetry and art therapy. We are also working towards craft fairs this summer.
