Welcome It’s an amazing time to join Bolton College, where we continue to introduce the new Gold Standard in advanced technical education, the new T Level qualifications. We’re an elite College, and part of the University of Bolton Group, offering you a gateway to all of Greater Manchester’s vast range of fantastic opportunities for specialist careers, university degree courses and higher Apprenticeships. What sets our programmes apart is the opportunity to put the things you learn about your chosen industry into practice in an employment setting, either as an apprentice, through Industry Placements or work experience. Supporting you to be well prepared for these experiences is our highest priority. Last year, we launched our Employer Academies, bringing employers even closer to you, both in College and in placement activities. In College, if you give us your best - including good attendance, focus on learning and making the most of the opportunities that we will provide for you – we’ll make sure you reach your full potential, and we’ll support you every step of the way. During our last inspection, we were graded 2 for ‘Good’ – Ofsted highlighted the fact that our learners develop good employability and personal skills, and that a high proportion progress to Apprenticeships, employment or Higher Education. So whatever your ambitions, you’re in safe hands! If you’d like some support with choosing your next step, you can attend an Open Event – see page 4 or call the team on 01204 482 182.

Disclaimer: Every care has been taken to ensure that the information contained within this guide was accurate at the time of printing. Bolton College is constantly evaluating its services to meet the needs of learners; therefore programmes/courses, resources, facilities and delivery methods may be subject to change without prior notice. The Government is currently introducing positive Apprenticeship reform with the creation of Employer Trailblazer Groups, who are developing new Apprenticeship standards. As such, Apprenticeship qualifications may be subject to change. Progress to Success courses are suggested study routes that learners can take, but they also have the chance to take on other opportunities.

Working closely with our LDM team we have a friendly team of Student Mentors who are always on hand to offer one-to-one support outside of the classroom; providing informal confidential mentoring; and where relevant, to help you liaise with a range of external agencies such as health services, social care, youth and restorative services, and wider education services.

Inclusion for All Bolton College is committed to providing equal opportunities in education for all learners and we will do all we can to meet the needs of individuals.

Learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities or Anxiety If you have a special educational need or disability, or anxiety, you should make sure your tutor knows. This is for any special need you have, and it doesn’t matter whether you have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP). For example, you might have a medical condition or find it difficult to travel by yourself. Your education provider - the College - will help you to prepare and plan for your placement, make sure you have the support you need and that the employer knows about your needs, so that any adjustments can be made, if required. If you need support for your disability at your work placement, staff at College will work with you to design a plan that is right for you. They will also talk to the employer so that they understand your needs and can work with you.

Risk Assessments

In addition to the health and safety policies in the workplace, the College may have completed a risk assessment relating to your disability and personal circumstances. You should be familiar with this. Your employer will also be familiar with it. You can check this with your support contact at College.
