SCANNER APPEAL UPDATE
WELSH THREE PEAKS SUCCESS
£300,000 appeal nearing target... We kicked off 2018 with an appeal for funds to buy a new specialist extremity (arm and leg) MRI scanner and we’ve nearly reached our goal. However, there is still more work to be done!
The scanner we want to buy is designed to scan limbs rather than the whole body. MRI scans are much more helpful to our doctors. Unlike an x-ray which can only look at bone, an MRI scan will also show ligaments, tendons and cartilage. So many people have already got involved and helped up get as far as we have. Fundraising efforts have included a boat trip around Poole Harbour, hiking up the Welsh 3 Peaks, many cake sales and donations from companies in our community.
Benefits for our patients •
•
More comfortable - Rather than lie in an awkward position in a large MRI scanner, suitable patients can have a more comfortable scan on the extremity scanner. Shorter waiting lists - The availability of this machine will mean that patients needing limbs scanned will not be using the main MRI scanners. The appointments freed up will help to reduce waiting times for patients with more complex body and spine examinations.

fter the success of last year’s event, we are delighted to announce that this year’s Walk for Wards will be held at the prestigious Somerley House Estate on Saturday 13 October. Adults and children alike can take part in this fun, family-friendly event, by simply choosing between a 1km, 5km or 10km walk through the beautiful lanes and fields of the 7,000 acre parkland estate, which is being exclusively opened up to participants. Walk for Wards raised
over £17,000 for different wards across the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals in 2017, including the Stroke, Eye, Heart and Cancer Units and it is their aim to see if they can do even better this year. Each participant raised an average of £44, so why not see if you can beat this
