In celebration of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s 30th anniversary, we would like to cordially invite you to join us for a wonderful evening of celebration at our Pearl Charity Ball! This event will be the highlight of our anniversary year, and it is our aim to honour our incredible hospital as it enters its 30th year of serving the people of our community. This black tie event will be held at the Vitality Stadium, home of Bournemouth Premier League Football Club, on Friday 20 September. Guests will be welcomed with an elegant drinks reception, served a delicious threecourse meal and be entertained with live music, a table magician, a charity auction and more. We sincerely hope that you are able to join us for an elegant evening in support of Bournemouth Hospital Charity and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. To purchase your tickets or a table now, pop in to the Charity Office or head to our website!

We ask you to join us in celebrating the hospital’s 30th year by doing something extraordinary for the Royal Bournemouth Hospital today! As the Royal Bournemouth Hospital opened in 1989, we thought that we would give our fundraising packs an 80’s twist. Instead of organising a coffee morning, why not try and organise an 80’s style aerobics class, games, karaoke or film night? Fundraising packs will include some marketing and fundraising materials to get you started. Feel free to think about a new and inventive way to fundraise, while throwing back to one of the greatest decades! Whether you set yourself a fundraising target of £30, £300 or even £3,000, by taking on a challenge that we already offer, participating in one of our events, or coming up with your own new and original idea, you can help us show just how important the hospital is in our local community.

The RBH30 Fundraising pack includes posters, stickers and invitations to help you organise your 80's event. Get in touch to order yours!

Christchurch Play Area

We were very proud to officially open the new children’s play area in the main outpatients at Christchurch Hospital earlier this year. This wonderful initiative was spearheaded by staff members, Carol Penfold, Odette Rodda, Di Potter, Sarah Smith and Dr Ian Pearson, who saw a real need to help their younger patients. It is anticipated that the play area will help to alleviate undue stress and worry for our young patients by improving the environment and

overall experience for them. We are incredibly grateful to the Christchurch League of Friends and Christchurch Drill Hall Charity Trust, as their support enabled us to refurbish the area and purchase the specialist equipment needed to entertain the children. We would also like to thank the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Lesley Dedman who was representing the Christchurch Drill Hall Charity Trust, for cutting the ribbon and officially opening the play area to the public.

Shockwave project

James Creasey from our Physiotherapy department came to see us and explained how the Radial Pulse Shockwave has been helping patients at our hospital. This machine has been on loan to The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals for just over a year, and so we will now actively be fundraising for a brand new Shockwave machine for the department! To find out more about this project and how you can support it, please look at the projects section of our website: www.bhcharity.org.

Charity funded Mini

After a successful year-long appeal, the Royal Bournemouth Hospital officially unveils its new Mini MRI Scanner. To celebrate the National Health Service’s 70th birthday in 2018, Bournemouth Hospital Charity asked the community to help fund a new Mini MRI Scanner that could lower waiting times and provide more comfortable treatment for radiology patients.

It was announced in January of this year, that the target for the scanner appeal had successfully been reached. This target was reached thanks to a £100,000 grant from Talbot Village Trust in addition to many generous donations from people across the community, including hospital

patients and staff, supporters of Bournemouth Hospital Charity and local corporate and community groups. Debbie Anderson, Head of Fundraising at Bournemouth Hospital Charity said, “We launched the Mini MRI Scanner appeal to honour a momentous year for the NHS, and successfully raised £300,000 for the scanner, that will benefit elderly patients as well as patients with leg or arm injuries or joint degeneration. We are indebted to all our donors and the community who have supported

this appeal.” The scanner was ordered at the end of January and work to prepare the space for the installation of the scanner unit commenced in February. After a three week construction programme, followed by installation and training for the radiography team, the scanner was officially declared open on Monday 29 April. Andy Pope, Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital said, “We are so thankful to those who have generously contributed to the Mini MRI Scanner appeal, run by the

“When we learnt how many people in the community would be positively impacted by the new MRI Scanner, we made it a priority of ours to help in any way that we could to ensure the equipment was purchased. We are proud to have been able to make this happen which as a result, will help many people for years to come.”

The extra MRI scan capacity afforded by the new machine will also secondarily benefit other patients, by freeing up scanning space and time on the three larger MRI machines within the Department.”

On Saturday 29 April, the Lighthouse Poole was the place to be, as hundreds of people attended a Charity Gala concert in aid of Bournemouth Hospital Charity, hosted by Bournemouth Male Voice Choir, to raise funds for men’s health projects at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Sara Armstrong, our Senior Community Fundraiser, who attended the incredible evening said:

“We are so thankful to the hundreds of people who had a part to play in the Charity '400 Male Voices' Concert. It was a

spectacular sellout evening! We’d like to thank the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir, the event sponsors, our volunteers and our Consultant Urological Surgeon James Manners, for his inspiring speech about men's health projects at our hospitals.”

Thank You!

The Bournemouth Hospital Charity Team were amazed to see nearly 300 supporters show up to March for Men at Bournemouth Pier Approach on what turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day! Our target for this event was £20,000, and we are thrilled to announce that £28,400 was raised, thanks to the generous donations and sponsorship from our incredible supporters. This amount will be used to fund

men’s health projects in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, so that our staff can continue to go above and beyond for our patients and offer a first class service. We would like to take this

opportunity to thank all of our wonderful volunteers, our Consultant Urologist Kevin Turner, Rapid Relief and The Bright Centre - without their help, this event would not have been possible.
