In the Art and Culture column, Brainfeed has covered an interesting topic-Rangoli. I am very fond of Rangolis and always try to make some innovation in it. The most interesting part is the different local names for Rangoli in different states of India and the story giving us the information of the origin of Rangoli. This really is a good example of rich cultural heritage in our country. M. Nithiya, Chennai

It was also amazing to know about the ballerinas who perform their spins without any signs of dizziness. T. Gaurav Kumar, Bengaluru
Rio 2016 ‘Get Set Go….’ On Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, from August 5 – 21 is actually very informative. It is hoped that Indians would bring laurels to our country. It was interesting to know about how the mascots Vinicius and Tom got their names. Virendra Singh, Chandigarh

EFFECTIVE
PUBLIC SPEAKING
TENETS OF A GOOD SPEECH
(appropriate) pauses in-between sentences. This will transmit the communication in a better manner that will facilitate the audience to fully comprehend and understand whatever is being conveyed. However, on the flip side, long pauses are not advisable as they hinder the continuity of comprehension of not only the audience, but also may retard the flow of thought of the speaker. Emphasis: The stress on certain keywords or phrases in a sentence will convey the intention of communication of especially important ideas or thoughts. On the contrary, a wrong emphasis becomes a barrier in articulation and the true meaning or purport of a statement may be misunderstood, misinterpreted and may even dangerously mislead the audience.
I
t is also noteworthy that, whilst delivering a speech one needs to have very good body language, expression, modulation, pause and posture with neat dignified gestures. Voice Modulation: A good confident voice, having need based modulations will help the audience, not only with proper audibility but also in conveying the expression, emotional feel and passion of the speaker. Appropriate and timely voice modulation will avoid monotony of speech or expression. Eye Contact: Viewing every member/section of the audience and connecting with them through eye contact will bridge the distance between the speaker and audience. It allows the listeners to be more involved and gives them a feel that the speaker is providing them attention on a one-to-one basis.
10
high september16
Gestures: The impromptu (natural) usage of gestures and facial expressions will also facilitate better communication with the audience. It enables the speaker to convey his feelings and emotions in an instrumental manner. Usage of inappropriate gestures is undesirable and may cause the audience to be distracted. Pause: A speech is not meant to be delivered with a continuous barrage of words and sentences. There has to be minute
Posture: The speaker should stand in a conveniently positioned posture that would help him to bend a little towards audience, which would make them feel that the speaker is involved and interested in talking to them. Furthermore, a speaker should not generally show his/her back to the audience. Ideally, the lower part of the body from the waist level down needs to be more or less fixed, while the upper part should be flexible to effectively turn in addressing the entire audience along the length and breadth of the entire hall. Public Speaking makes you a confident individual. It helps you to build a positive image among peers and teachers. Most importantly, Public Speaking has the power to positively transform individuals, a society, a nation and even the world. Practice Public Speaking skills and be a successful individual.

A New Chapter in Olympics The Olympics fever has gone viral round the world. People are appreciating and praising athletes for bringing home gold, silver or bronze medals for their countries. Presenting herself in a lemon hued badminton costume, P V Sindhu, the 21 year old from Hyderabad, with lots of energy and self confidence won millions of heart by her stunning performance. It was when she entered the semifinal round, the whole nation, prayed for her success. BEFORE going to the finals, the hungry lioness said, “My target will be to win the gold and I would give my heart out for that and play my best.”
Now she is being lauded for grit and determination and how she gave her opponent, Carolina Marin, who is current world number one, a tough fight in the finals. AFTER the final match, the silver medalist said, “I am on Cloud Nine. It has been a great week. I came here to win a medal and that has happened. SINDHU’S SUCCESS Known as a giant killer, there are many people behind P V Sindhu’s success story. Of course it is her parents and her guru Gopichand who have played a major role behind her success but there are some more people and here are few of them. 10 year old Sai Vishnu, Gopichand’s son, used to come to the badminton court everyday at 4:30 am and help Sindhu in mastering the dribbles at the net. Physio Dr Kiran Challagundla, played a critical role in ensuring Sindhu’s cent percent fitness in the Olympics. Vaibhav Agashe, a sport psychologist worked with Sindhu’s mental conditioning. Agashe said, “Sindhu
tends to lose confidence and get negative when she loses points after taking a lead.” In Rio, he advised Sindhu to stay positive till the end. During tense situations, she slows down, to avoid it he instructed her to watch her feet, not to slow down and move quickly. Agashe added that over the last year there has been a change in her confidence level and aggression on the court.

TRENDSETTER In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can. - Nikos Kazantzakis The line above can aptly sum up the attitude of Olympic bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik. She is the first female wrestler to ever get a medal for India. Sakshi belongs to Rohtak, a small town in Haryana where social taboos rather than individual choices usually determine the
course. In her social milieu, choosing a career like wrestling invited unsolicited reprimands from friends, family and acquaintances alike. So, what made Sakshi strong enough to beat the odds? Self determination and a relentless attitude is what define her. Sakshi started formal training at the age of 12 under Ishwar Dahiya at a local facility at Chotu Ram stadium. Soon, she out performed her peers. The girls competing with her found her too strong for wrestling bouts. Her coach decided to train her alongside the male aspirants and she did not disappoint. Years of undeterred effort yielded her a Bronze at the 2010 Junior World Championships in the 59-kg category at the age of 18. In the year 2014, she bagged the Gold at the Dave Schultz International Wrestling Tournament (60-kg). At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow she received a silver medal followed by a bronze medal at Senior Asian Wrestling Championships, Doha. Qualifying for Olympics as a wrestler was dream come true for Sakshi who imbibed her grandfather’s passion for the game. She made sure that the opportunity is not lost and sealed it with a medal. september 16

HELLO CHILDREN, you always feel school to be a second home and your teachers as second parents. Don’t you? You spend most of your time at school with friends and teachers but how many of you really think of your teacher, sincerely respect and appreciate the teacher’s hard work and efforts for guiding and mentoring you the future citizens of our country. A teacher is a multifaceted professional, dons the role of a guide, mentor, coach, facilitator and many more. Teaching is a profession that creates many other professions. Undoubtedly the teachers play a key role in moulding the life of students. The relation between a teacher and student should be like fish to the water and not like a fish to the fisherman.

What is your expectation from your teachers?
What is your expectation from your teachers?
Today’s generation is about mutual respect and understanding between a teacher and a student. Today, a successful teacher is the one who is able to understand the peer pressures of a student, their backgrounds and circumstances, their psychology and work with them to help them become successful with understanding and patience.
Teachers are meant not only to teach but to guide and train the students. I expect my teachers to be very good, knowledgeable and well mannered and at the same time be kind and sincere and be friendly. I want them to give me courage to put out my best in everything. I want them to answer or solve all my doubts and to respect me by understanding my difficulties, my hesitation and my complex.
Teachers need to accept that not all students can be rankers and not all sportsmen can be gold medalists. If all teachers are more nurturing and understanding in their approach towards their students, only then, both will benefit from overall success. How do you think a teacher should help in changing the education system? In the fast changing world of the 21st century, education is changing. Together with them, the role of the teachers should also change. The teachers can help in changing the education system by adapting to the atmosphere of this generation. They can be more open-minded and in favour of a co-education school. They should be open to the students so that students can tell the problems they are facing so that teachers can help them out. After all, teachers are our second parents. Many schools do not give importance to sports. Teachers should help students advance in it as sports have a very crucial place. They should always encourage students and help them in the fields they want to advance in.
How do you think a teacher should help in changing the education system? Education is the only key of enhancing people’s capabilities and widening their choice in order to live a happy, free and lovely life. Teaching and education should not be seen as technical exercise within classroom but every teacher should make efforts to reach out to all children in community. It is believed that many students are not able to achieve according to their potential as they find studies ‘boring’ so, teacher should make the class interactive. It is teacher’s responsibility to know that whatever they have addressed is clear to students. How can a student show respect to teachers? Teachers play a vital role in our lives. There are many ways to respect them and the most important is paying attention in class. Whenever you score well in any subject you make your teacher proud. We don’t know how much hard a teacher works for us. You should remember that a teacher, like a parent punishes not out of hatred but love and for our betterment. Respect your teachers and make them your friend so that they can groom you into a responsible citizen. september 16

What is your expectation from yours teachers? Teachers should have good qualities as they cause greater influence over a student than the other people of the society. The teacher should spend more time with students to build a good relationship with them. They should guide the students towards their goals. How do you think a teacher should help you in the changing education system? In the present education system a student studies in school for nearly 15 years. In fact, it is only in the school that the personality of a person is shaped. All that a student learns generally comes from his teacher. A person learns better by imitation. It is basically the teachers whom a student imitates. A teacher should create himself as a role model for a student. A teacher should be a motivator, guide and moderator for students’ behaviour. I think a teacher can help a student better by becoming a role model in the environment of changing education system.

What is your expectation from yours teachers? I want my teachers to have great ability to guide the students in the right path. They should have a good moral character and present themselves as the role model for students. They should treat all students equal and should not punish the students for their mistakes; rather guide them to correct their mistakes. How do you think a teacher should help you in changing education system? Education is not just acquiring knowledge from the books but to learn to live a meaningful way. Teachers play the most important role in the society. They should teach the students to acquire knowledge and to apply them in life. They should not only teach them the tricks to learn lessons easily but the necessary moral values as well. Teachers should try to make the students the future leaders of the country as well as the universe. How can a student show respect to teachers? Teachers deserve the highest respect in the society. The shloka, “Acharaya Devo Bhava” means teachers are equal to God. They are the society builders. Respect to teachers should be by obeying them and listening to them. When a student succeeds in life and goes to a high position in life following the teacher’s advice, it is the greatest respect given to a teacher by a student.

Write Right HANDWRITING SECRETS - 05 Y. Mallikarjuna Rao Director National Handwriting Academy, Hyderabad Email:handwriting56@gmail.com
YOUR WRITING BOOSTS YOUR BRAIN
Your handwriting is not just a combination of letters. It is not just a means of communication. It is actually a tool which is generated by brain and by externalizing it, your brain gets benefited in more than one way. When did you ‘write’ literally on a piece of paper last time? This electronic era is dominating the writing art and it is showing a diversified effect on people’s mind. Though you have nothing to write, just pick up your favourite pen and piece of paper, pen down few lines of your interest for few minutes every day. As you write, your brain stimulates accordingly. Let us look into the benefits what your brain is going to gift you… • CALMING EFFECT: Your writing has an excellent power which can act as a stress buster. Whenever you feel tensed or depressed, write the poem you read in your childhood or in recent times which you like very much from your heart. These strokes and the effect will slowly travel from your hand to your mind. If you can repeat this for around 21 days, your mind will calm down and people surrounding you, can observe the notable difference too. • LEFT-RIGHT BRAIN CO-ORDINATION: When you write few words or lines sometimes with right hand and few times with left hand, it would influence on the coordination of both the hemispheres of your brain. Right part of the body is controlled by left brain and the left part of the body is controlled by right brain. Though you are left handed or right handed, use your second hand for a while and slowly one can observe a beautiful coordination between both the brains. This will result in more focus and better skill enhancement, so that the writer works better. The writer feels the super power emerging from brain and would be able to use brain better than previous, Irrespective of the field you are in, you become super power in executing your abilities and finally more successful.
• BOOSTS COGNITIVE SKILLS: As handwriting is the coordination of mind and hand, by writing few lines with concentration every day, it would result in improving your cognitive skills. These better cognitive skills would certainly help the writer in performing better either in academics or in profession. • ADDS CREATIVITY: Instead of working more on electronic gadgets, if you can start writing on daily basis, it would help in increasing creativity. Especially in your handwriting, try to make smaller circles on i’s and j’s. Graphologists observed writer making circles on these letters are more creative than the regular writers. • SHARPENS AGING MINDS: Aging is a natural phenomenon. If you are noting your ideas on paper with fountain pen on regular basis you can notice sharper side of your mind as you grow older. • IMPROVES MEMORY: Write little smaller letters in your handwriting and it influences the retention power and therefore improves memory. Good memory is the secret portion of success. Use ruled sheets to train your hand to reduce the size of handwriting. USES MORE BRAIN: Research proves that a person writing with pen or pencil on the paper is using more of the brain than the one simply surfing the smart phones or working on keyboards. Neurons would get better stimulated when you write on paper. All the happenings in the world took place only from human brain. One can become very successful and get the ultimate recognition for their works when they start using more of their brain productively. And the beauty is your writing helps for it! september 16

INDIAN TEENAGER BAGS GOOGLE COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD As a part of his project description Advay said, “I have often read news about the troubles encountered by fishermen in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. They have to stay at sea for many days to do their work. Sometimes, Sri Lankan forces arrest them for crossing the International Maritime Boundary line. Location-based information can provide many valuable services to these fishermen to handle these situations.” Talking about his future, Advay says, his favourite subject is Maths and he wants to pursue engineering. He wants to become the greatest and innovative person. Brainfeed interacted with Advay and he shared his experiences.
What prompted you to participate in this contest? I was working on it to help myself understand different areas of technology. When this opportunity was told to me I was excited to enhance my project more and submitted it to Google Science Fair competition. Explain about your project ‘FishErmen Lifeline Terminal’. The fishermen problem is very often seen in newspapers. I wanted to use technology to address this. It started off as a way to use the ISRO’s IRNSS (GPS equivalent) signal. This project will help fishermen by providing warning when they near the International maritime boundary line, record their catchment for future reference
and research, store history for planning and sharing, track their traveled path and provide broadcast alert system through satellite. Some were implemented but lot more to enhance and make it in robust hardware. Having achieved a great success at a young age, what is your future plans? I am lucky to get recognized among other ideas that were presented. I will continue to learn more in new areas and work on my passion on working with science and technology to create products that can be helpful to others. September 27 will be a memorable day for you in your life as you will join Google for their Sixth Annual Awards celebrations. Please comment. I am feeling excited to meet other participants and share my views and also plan to have fun as well.

Learn English P. V. Seshubabu
LEARN TO USE CORRECT ENGLISH
Learners and other users of English tend to commit errors quite commonly. Over a period of time, this use of English with common errors continues to be a habit. The objective of this new column is to inculcate in students use of correct English. It is presumed that students who have had exposure to incorrect use of English tend to learn in the same manner. Whatever could be the cause of incorrect use of English, it is hoped that this page should be helpful to all users of English in the right perspective.
A
s for English teachers, it is quite obvious that they have to devote considerable time or no time to eradicate certain constantly recurring errors and the students hardly receive any guidance or direction as to correct their errors.
There are variations in pronunciation and spelling. The declensions, forms of irregular verbs, words adopted from other languages make it much more confusing. 36
‘Learn to use Correct English’ could be a useful guide to obtaining a greater command of the language and a wider use of vocabulary.
English is not our native language. The complexity of the language in terms of word, spelling, pronunciation and correct usage causes confusion in the minds of learners. It is only a humble beginning to clear the jungle of wrong use of English. The complexity is natural because of English being an unphonetic language. There are variations in pronunciation and spelling. The declensions, forms of irregular verbs, words adopted from other languages make it much more confusing. Some of the errors are fairly easy to eradicate but others are very hard. Nevertheless, through constant ‘use’ of the language, the errors can
be eradicated. ‘Learn to use Correct English’ could be a useful guide to obtaining a greater command of the language and a wider use of vocabulary. The teachers are advised to use this in their instructional classes for guidance. They can easily get correct use of the language by devoting a little time to the common errors. This need not be the work of English teachers alone; subject or specialist teachers may also take interest to correct the spelling and the use of words in their own subjects. Alternately, illustrative sentences may be practiced frequently for follow up. The common errors that are generally made are taken up first.

hildren, in the movie Nayak, the hero in the role of a common man is challenged by the Chief Minister to run the state for a day. The hero’s governance is such a success that the people forced him into joining politics. That sounds good for a movie. However, here is the drama in real life. Yes, a class XII girl was given a chance to act as a sarpanch for a day. With an aim to uplift the morale of village students, Dhansu, a village in Hisar district in Haryana decided to appoint a girl who topped her school in class XII, to act as a sarpanch on the occasion of 70th Independence Day. Sushila Khator and Aarti secured 81% and 87.2% respectively topped in class XII. However, the villagers selected Sushila Khator, a student of the government school of the village. The sarpanch
The Sarpanch of Dhansu village Manohar Lal said, “The initiative will give a positive message for girls. Moreover, we will get to know the opinion of youth and how the younger generation thinks for the development of the village.” Do you know? The word ‘Sarpanch’ generally brings to mind an image of an elderly grey haired man, probably with a turban and a big moustache, holding in his hands a stick and in his gaze the fear filled respect of an entire village.
of the Dhansu village, Manohar Lal Bhakhar said that Sushila would be allowed to decide about developmental works to be carried out in the village for one day. Sushila unfurled the national flag on Independence Day and said that she would make a formal demand to the government for providing special buses for school and college girls going to Hisar for education.
Rarely does the image of a woman ever come to mind and given below are few WOMEN SARPANCHES rocking rural India. Chhavi Rajawat with an MBA degree has taken over as a sarpanch in her village, Soda, in Rajasthan’s Tonk district. Indeed it is a great initiative taken by the village, if adopted by others, the ideas of younger generation, can take our country to newer heights. Don’t you think so?

ESTABLISH a
Study Routine
Exam writing tips: You are sitting in the exam hall, waiting to get your hands on that anticipated piece of paper. You’ve jammed a ton of information into your brain and your finger nails are non-existent - it’s time to get down to. Here are few tips:
1
PRACTICE TEST PAPERS:
There is really no better way to get exam ready than by attempting past papers. Most exam bodies, should have past papers available online (but the teacher should start on these in class)
2 Kids are the greatest gifts; Every kid has a varying personality, intellect and will power, which can contribute to changing our understanding of the world.
B
ut kids aren’t aware of these possibilities and often need guidance. And as teachers, as parents, it is our responsibility to set our kids on the path to discovering their potential as leaders, let me say how: Your study routine is comprised more than planning what to learn and when. One of the main concerns is your study environment. Find a place to study that is quiet and with few distractions, alternatively you could also try switching it up by sitting in a different place in the school library every day and seeing how this works for you. These really aren’t any hard and fast rules to play by when it comes to best times for studying or how long you should work for. Everybody is different, so the best way to establish a routine is to try different things and see what works best for you and then modify your routine for maximum learning effectiveness.
READ ALL QUESTIONS CAREFULLY
The stress of the situation can cause you to misread a question. Plan your answer out, start writing your response and then realize you made a mistake and wasted vital time. Even though you generally won’t be writing answers to every question on the paper, reading all questions thoroughly will ensure you make the right choices and can highlight how much you know about the topic.
3
MANAGE YOUR TIME
This is where you need to be strict on yourself. Once you have assigned a time limit for each question, you must move on once you hit it or you won’t be able to give the next question your full attention.
4
STRUCTURE YOUR ANSWER
Don’t just jump into writing your answer. Take the first few minutes to plan the structure of your essay which will save your time when you are delving into meaty parts. Always stay on topic. Most essays should have an introduction, three main points and a conclusion. A lot of students see a conclusion as a final sentence to finish the piece off.
So dear children, be determined. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. One should always try out new things and be determined to succeed. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Every dark night has a bright morning beckoning. Be determined and be the person that you are destined to be. september 16

Sky diving is an adventurous sport. How did you develop interest in it? Born and brought up in a conventional middle class family of Pune, I always opposed gender discrimination. How is the response? How many Indians have you trained till now?
You are the only woman skydiving coach in India. What prompted you to start Phoenix Skydiving Academy?
The response is very good but we don’t have funds to train the students. Due to lack of funds, lots of students are getting demotivated. So far, I have trained more than 150 students, out of them only 7 are still in touch with me to go ahead with skydiving. In December 2013, I had organized skydiving camp in which 52 people experienced skydiving for the first time. Till today I have performed 672 parachute jumps and 12 hours of tunnel time in wind tunnel and my journey has just started.
In 2012, I started the first of its kind Skydiving Institute of India in Pune so that this unknown sport gets recognition in India. Like cricket World cup there is a competition held at world level for skydiving sport but we Indians never go there to represent our country. My ultimate aim is to lead India in World cup of Skydiving. I also wish to find 100 more Shital Mahajan’s from India who wants to choose skydiving as carrier option and I want to support them to get medals for India in this sport.
What is the proudest moment of your life? It is yet to come. The day my student will get any medal in world championship, I will be the september 16
proudest coach in this country. Hope so that day will come soon. How can a person develop the interest for skydiving? Skydiving is the most adventurous and the most dangerous sport. But if you play with proper guidance and follow all rules, believe me, it is the safest game in the world. In skydiving you have always 2 parachutes, if one doesn’t open, you have the other and the reserve parachute opens for sure. What are the benefits of skydiving? If you want to overcome fear of your life, then everyone should try skydiving. Once you do skydiving, you feel fearless and you can take any decision of your life without any hesitation and your confidence level rises to the peak. high

W h y d o M o s q u it o e s P r e f e r O n ly S o m e People? • People with high concentration of steroids or cholesterol on their skin surface attract mosquitoes. • Mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon-dioxide we exhale. Every time we exhale, we release chemicals like lactic acid, octenol, uric acid and fatty acids. This combination of scent is what clues mosquitoes that there is a human target nearby. Mosquitoes bite adults and pregnant women more. • With the bacteria, our sweat is one of the most attractive scents for mosquitoes. Fresh sweat is not as attractive because it is not combined with bacteria and is odourless.
The buzzing of mosquito and its bite is very irritating. Isn’t it? Many a time, we find solutions to get rid of mosquitoes but in vain. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SPECIES of mosquito and all have different preferences when it comes to who they bite. But it is interesting to know that only female mosquitoes bite as they need nutrition to develop eggs. Mosquitoes have very acute receptors in their antennae that can DETECT HUMAN SCENT up to 100 FEET away.
FACTS A mosquito, weighing 2 to 2.5 milligrams, enables it to fly more swiftly.
• Depending on the type of blood we have, we secrete different scents. Mosquitoes are most attracted to Type O blood and least attracted to Type A.
Mosquitoes fly at speeds between 1 and 2.41 km per hour, making them one of the slowest flying insects of all.
• Lactic acid is emitted through skin when we are active or eating certain foods. Mosquitoes are more attracted to people with a greater build-up of lactic acid on their skin. • There are also other indicators like body heat, moisture, movement and colour that attract mosquitoes’ highly attuned receptors.
Mosquitoes don’t have teeth, they “bite” with a long, pointed mouthpart called proboscis, which pierces the skin, finds a capillary and draws out blood. Mosquitoes hate fan. Because of their incredibly light weight, it is difficult for them to manoeuvre their flight and even more difficult to steady themselves on a target.
ACTIVITY 1. Compare the life span of a female mosquito with a male mosquito. 2. What does the male mosquito feed on?

A makeup artist is someone who uses cosmetic techniques and processes to create beauty upon the human body. In its simplest form, it enhances a person’s appearance, bringing out colour and features and hiding or smoothing out flaws, using cosmetic products. Fortunately there is no education requirement for this field BUT if you are educated it is better and this is just an art which can be developed. As every career requires a skill, what skills are required for the student pursuing this Course? The qualities of a good artist include great customer service, creativity, self-motivation, good time management, understanding of art and design, great listener, comfortable making recommendations and offering
feedback to clients, arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity and near vision. What are the opportunities as a makeup artist and how can a person become a successful makeup artist? There are two main categories of makeup artist. Cosmetic or fashion artists range from the clerk at the store makeup counter to the artist who prepares fashion models for photo shoots. The artist knows how to make the subject look her or his best, and understands the different effects required by lighting and digital photography. The fashion artist also works with designers to create a certain look for the model, such as emphasizing lip shape or cheekbones. The other main type is theatrical and film makeup artist. This person enhances an actor’s features to emphasize the character he or she plays in performance art. The artist learns to work with different lighting conditions, the distance between the stage and the audience, and the requirements determined by digital and high definition cameras. At its most creative, special effects artists create fantasy creatures, the illusion of blood and gore, imaginative sci-fi creatures, characters from eras gone by, and much more. This field is often regarded as one of the most creative and lucrative areas of makeup, but it can also be one of the most challenging to break
into. Thanks to digital cameras, makeup artists are increasingly in demand for weddings, fashion shoots, fashion shows, corporate headshot photography, and other special events. A deep love of cosmetics and passion is one of the first tell-tale signs of a budding makeup artist. Why is the makeup industry in a great demand in today’s job market? The beauty and grooming industry in the country is booming, thanks to the growing desire among both men and women to look stylish and feel good. This industry is 1.5 lac years old and today it is huge. Thanks to social media which has increased the business in three folds Urbanization is one of the reasons for growth of this industry; growth in IT sector, high payments, and life styles changing has given a boost to this market.
happy doing this job for the last 8-9 years. When I started in this industry, I did looks on myself every day. I did looks on family members and friends to learn how to work with different complexions, face shapes and flaws. I found cheaper versions of expensive products. Lastly, I made sure to attend classes and conferences to get the insight from pro makeup artists and experts. Only worst part of my career was that you are noticed by people and media only after you make huge money. What advice would you like to give the students who choose makeup artist as a subject for their career? My first piece of advice is to never take anything personal and remember to have fun! Keep in mind it is art, and first know what kind of artist you want to be. This is the way you can find and develop your signature style. Some people get disillusioned with this industry because they go in expecting to work with celebrities and supermodels. There are a few makeup artists who do, but those are the exceptions.
You have a wonderful academic background and have also been a corporate trainer. What prompted you to choose this field? You have only one life to live and you need to decide what your priorities are. I decided to follow my passion and am really
Most of us earn our income through weddings, and most wedding looks are pretty similar. There is some creativity involved in this career, but ultimately you serve the vision of others: the director, the photographer, the bride, or the model. For the beginning artist, my advice might sound clichĂŠ, but practice, practice, practice!

What causes the Perseids? Every Perseid Meteor is a tiny piece of ice and dust of the comet SwiftTuttle, which orbits the sun every 133 years. As it orbits the sun, it leaves a cloud of debris that forms a wide oval shaped ring in the same orbit as the comet. The earth passes

When they are in space, the pieces of debris are called “meteoroids,” but when they reach Earth’s atmosphere, they’re called as “meteors.” If a piece makes it all the way down to Earth without burning up, it is called as “meteorite.” Most of the meteors in the Perseids are too small that they are about the size of a grain of sand. At the peak of the show, in clear, dark sky, one can see as many as 80 - 100 meteors an hour. The shower is more prominent in the Northern hemisphere and the best time to observe it is just before dawn.

• The Perseids pose no danger to Earth. Most burn up 50 miles above our planet. But an outburst could mean trouble for spacecraft. • Comet Swift Tuttle is named after the two American astronomers who discovered it in 1862. • Astronomers measure the strength of a meteor shower by using a term called Zenithal Hourly Rate (ZHR).

Anger is just like any other emotion.
Some tools to OVERCOME and MANAGE
It is absolutely normal to get angry upon someone or some situation. Problem arises only when anger causes harm to yourself or others.
ANGERENT
MANAGEM P
eople who tend to get angry, especially the teenagers, feel that anger, aggression earn them attention and respect they desire. Due to anger, people may be afraid of you but may not respect you. Opposite or adverse opinion from others gives rise to anger. When a person is angry, traffic jam like situation develops in brain with congestion of emotions like disgust, resentment, fury, irritation and denial, one cannot find the way out.
proper thinking and unhealthy way, it may leave lasting scars on people you love. It may become hard for even your parents, friends to trust you again, and thus unmanaged anger spoils relationship which affects your mental health badly.
Constantly high level anger causes stress, insomnia and weakened immunity which ultimately results in low physical health.
So first of all try to listen to others patiently and understand their views, and then register your opinion in a healthy way. You may not be able to control the situation but you can choose to control yourself.
Anger consumes a great mental energy. If expressed without
Anger management does not necessarily mean suppressing the anger. But it teaches us to find its cause and consequences, and learn the healthy way to express it.
ANGER
1
THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK – Whenever you get angry give self-instructions and think before you speak. This avoids many unwanted effects of anger.Try to monitor your emotions.
2
REVERSE COUNTING – Counting the numbers from 10 to 0 acts just like a traffic police who controls and regulates the traffic. While counting reverse, you concentrate upon counting instead of anger and you get time to regulate your feelings.
3
BREATHE DEEP – Take long breathes and try to notice physical changes like your clenched fists, tight jaw and tensed muscles getting relaxed. You are feeling flushed etc. you will really feel calm.
4
EXERCISE – Exercise, brisk walk plays a vital role in anger management too. Concentrate on your physical activities like how you are stepping, a touch of cool breeze and overall rhythm of your body.
5
TALK ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL –Discussing about your anger with parents, friends will be useful as you can know other perspectives of the situation.
6
EMPATHY –Try to understand the view or concern of another person.
7
WILLINGNESS – A strong will to overcome anger is the key drive in anger management.
Mastering the anger management is a hard art. But the more you practice, the easier it will become. september 16

It was finally time for the launch. We had worked for seven long years for this moment.
4
The whole team waited anxiously as SLV-3, India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle, was prepared for the launch. The countdown began: Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one and liftoff!
5
Suddenly the spell was broken. The second stage went out of control and the flight was terminated after three hundred and seventeen seconds.
7
The rocket crashed into the sea and all our hopes drowned with it. One moment there was magic, the next, a feeling of utter hopelessness. This event came as a big shock to most of us.
8
I knew that the press would be full of critics waiting to blame my team and me.

But my chairman, Professor Satish Dhawan, took the mike from me and answered all the questions confidently. His composure and his clarity of thought really impressed me.
3 The first stage performed to perfection. We stood spellbound watching, our hopes soaring in the form of SLV-3.
6 I felt angry and frustrated. A press conference was scheduled. The causes of the failure were to be discussed. I felt responsible for the crash and a dread filled my heart.
9 He said, “These are very complex missions. We have to find out what went wrong, correct it and then make sure that it’s not repeated.”

10 He also added, “I’m confident that in exactly a year’s time we can successfully place a satellite in orbit!” His last sentence made my heart soar.
13 Then I got the opportunity to speak the most important words I have ever uttered in my life, “Mission Director calling all stations. All stages performed successfully and the Rohini Satellite is now in orbit.”
16 A press conference was held once again and I requested Professor Satish Dhawan to address it. But this time he turned the mike towards me and let me face the questions.
11 I had hardly slept for the past week and I went straight to my room and fell on my bed.
14 There was a loud cheer everywhere! When I came out of the building, my colleagues lifted me on their shoulders and paraded me around the launching pad. It was my proudest and happiest moment. I was so proud of my team.
17 He knew how hard I had worked for the project and thought I should be given the privilege of facing the press.
12 Exactly one year later, on 18th July 1980, the whole nation was watching us again. It was time for the launch that was going to change the future of the Indian space programme. In the early hours of the day, SLV-3 lifted off. The satellite was successfully put into orbit.
15 The whole nation was excited. India had made its entry into the small elite group of nations that possessed satellite launch capability. Every newspaper carried headlines of the event.
18 That day I learnt how a leader guides his team, taking the blame when faced with failure and sharing the praise in the event of success. I hoped that someday I could also support my team in the same way.

Math & Magic in Wonderland Math & Magic in Wonderland is spellbinding! It is not just a book – it is a journey you find yourself hoping doesn’t end. This is a wonderful and unusual book. The story follows the adventures of witty twin sisters – Lulu and Elizabeth – on their journey into an imaginary world. But there is a twist. In each step they need to solve some words, logic or math puzzles that will open the door into the next adventures. Throughout the journey, the twin sisters learn about Math, Science, Classic Poetry, History and Literature. It is rare to find a book that is not only educational tool to encourage youngsters to love math and science but at the same time a book that is simply a joy to read for all ages. The book is not only a modern version of “Alice in Wonderland” but it is also an activity book. The book is full of humour, pun and tongue twisters. Some parts make you laugh out loud. – From Tel Ezer, Reader’s Review.

Bonfire Night By Sally Trowbridge In the UK, Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated on 5 November and the night skies are filled with colour. It’s a special day in honour of a historic event. The history In 1605 English Catholics were angry because the King of England, James I, was treating them badly. In protest, a group of men made a plan, known as the ‘Gunpowder Plot’, to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. An enormous explosion was planned for 5 November, the day that the King was due to open parliament. The group chose a man called Guy Fawkes to light the gunpowder. The plot did not succeed – the gunpowder was found before it exploded and all the men involved were arrested, tortured and executed. To celebrate his survival, King James ordered the people of England to have a bonfire on the night of 5 November. © iStockphoto
Bonfires, Guys and fireworks On 5 November people remember the plot by celebrating Bonfire Night. All over Britain there are firework displays and bonfires with models of Guy Fawkes, made from clothes and filled with newspaper, which are burned on the fire. The fireworks are a reminder of the gunpowder that Guy Fawkes hid in the cellar of Parliament. Children used to take home-made Guys onto the streets and ask for ‘a penny for the Guy’ to collect money to buy fireworks. At the Edenbridge Display in Kent last year, a 9-metre ‘celebrity’ Guy was burned of Wayne Rooney wearing Shrek-style ears and a Manchester United football shirt.
