Note: Dear parents and teachers, we would request you to go through our children’s magazines and encourage your children to read it as it is full of interesting things! We urge you to guide your children while reading the magazine as there are terms they might not recognize. We have used relatively strong words in some of the essays as it will help children develop a great vocabulary. There shouldn’t be any difficulty going through the pages as we have curated the edition keeping the children’s age group in mind. The magazine comes with a ‘word finder’ for terms that are not yet in children’s memory. We have also incorporated a ‘Did you know?’ section, for children to take interest in the topics! I hope you find the magazine interesting! Keep reading.

POEM

By Kashvi Joshi

Under the azure sky and the blue clouds,

Lay a bed of sand, shapes and mounds On that sunny morning, Ellie, the elephant, Sat there with eyes intelligent With a green bucket and blue shovel, She realized, she forgot her towel, She built sand castles with sharp peaks, And kept looking for any leaks

Seeing her struggle, Came around a crab and a starfish, With their cute little wiggle, They built more castles in a while, That made Ellie proudly smile

Azure: Bright blue Mounds: A high ground

World Chocolate Day is celebrated on July 7th every year.

This Day is celebrated to commemorate the first time chocolate was introduced in Europe form Africa in 1550. But do you know, scientists now believe that it was the Mayans from South America who first discovered cocoa, the main ingredient to make chocolate? It is also believed that Cocoa was used as currency in the Mayan civilization. The Mayans may have discovered cocoa, but it was Europe, especially Belgium that made chocolate so loved! One factor that made chocolate so popular apart from being lip smacking and delicious is that it has health benefits too. It is believed that darker the chocolate, the better it is for your health. Apart from making us instantly happy, Chocolate has been found to boost immunity, reduce inflammation, regulate blood flow, sharpen memory and prevent ageing. It is full of antioxidants too! Isn’t it a good news?

Most of the animals on this planet cannot fly except

insects and birds. But do you know, due to evolution, (the process in which the animals become more efficient over a period of time by adapting to the various challenges Earth offers) there is a type of frog that can glide through the air unlike any other? The flying frog can indeed land on a surface at an angle lower than 45 degrees relative to the horizontal, which gives it the distinct appearance of a flying creature, like birds! As they live on high branches, they have been able to adapt this special feature. These frogs have developed enlarged hands and feet, webbed fingers and toes, lateral flaps on the legs and arms and many other distinct features. Its scientific name is Rhacophorus nigropalmatus. Isn’t it a fascinating animal?

Evolution: Changing with time Horizontal: Parallel to the ground Webbed Fingers: Fingers connected by skin

POEM Choco the bear was very sweet But she hated the summer heat

“It doesn’t matter whose eggs these are They are too precious and dear!

So she searched for a place to rest When he found Torty’s nest

We must all take care of it And ensure we do our little bit

The sand was full of eggs she saw And then a giant lion’s paw

To take care of the little ones While Torty’s away from his daughters and sons”

Confused she said “What is this?” When Leo the Lion said that it was his!

Then Monty the mouse blew his horn And all praised the Lion

“No way!” said Choco “it can’t be!” “Do you see a fool in me?”

For helping Torty, the tortoise in the hour of need, He was the king of the jungle indeed!

Then Greg the elephant came in And said, “Choco listen!”

All young ones require protection.

Ellie the elephant was playing with her mom

when he realised that he was very slow. He saw Trutty the bird run errands so quickly. One moment she was laying eggs while at the very next moment he saw Trutty making a nest on a tree for herself and her family. Ellie ruminated that he had played with her mom since the morning. Trutty, Ellie compared was so energetic while she was so lazy! Just when she started to feel melancholic, Ellie saw Slobby the sloth climbing a tree slowly. When Slobby finally reached the branches, the sun had already gone down and it had started raining. While Slobby had the branches of the tree to protect him from the rain, Truty’s nest washed away immediately due to the heavy rainfall and immense thundering. She realized everybody had a time and reason for everything.

Errands: daily tasks Ruminate: Wonder

Unnecessary comparisons ruin our life. We are all unique. 11

Cookie the crocodile and Guffy the giraffe resided in

nearby forests. They often got scared of one another whenever they heard each other passing. While Guffy the giraffe thought cookie the crocodile was a monster that would eat him alive, Cookie the crocodile thought Guffy the giraffe would stamp him to death with his long legs if he ever saw him. When Ibis the bird found out about this, she took both of them to a big city. There they saw tall buildings rising up to the sky! Big cars rushing by. All the roads were so busy. Cookie the crocodile got so scared of the speeding cars on the big roads that Guffy decided to stop the traffic with his big body and help Cookie cross the road peacefully. They then went to a nearby beach and spent the entire day making sand castles and eating icecream. They had forgotten about their rivalry back in the forest and decided to remain friends with each other for the rest of their lives.

Teddy the bear wanted to play When he heard Loli the bird say:

“Where have you been? It has been long. Haven’t you heard me singing my song? To tell you there is a new friend, For which you’ll need to bend! To have a proper look at him Because he is too tiny and slim He only plays and often barks And has beautiful stripes and marks, He is a gift from our beloved God And he says his name is Claude He is my favourite friend so far, Let’s all stay with each other Because in the wild you never know What dangers might follow We all need to take care of him, Because he is little and straight out of a dream!
