The P roud Monkey Listen
1
Once upon a time, some sailors set sail on their boat to visit a faraway country. One of the sailors, Gavin, brought his pet monkey along with him. One morning, when the boat was in the middle of the sea, a big storm turned the boat upside down.
June 2016
2 All the sailors and the monkey fell into the water. The monkey could not swim and it tried to get hold of something to save itself. Just then, a dolphin came and lifted the monkey out of water. Soon, they reached an island and the monkey jumped onto the shore. Then, the dolphin asked the monkey, “Do you know this place?”
3
“Yes, the king of this island is my friend,” replied the monkey. The dolphin knew that nobody lived on the island. So dolphin said, “Oh! Is that so? Now you can ask the help of your friend to get back home.” The dolphin swam away. The monkey shouted, “Hey! Wait!” But the dolphin did not stop. Now, the monkey understood that it is alone in the island.

Rohan loved watching butterflies. One day‌.
e h T fly r e t t Bu
Oh! Lovely! This is a cocoon. A butterfly comes out of this.
I think the butterfly is not ready yet. The next day, Rohan again went to see the cocoon.
Finally, one morning, the cocoon cracked a little.
For many days, Rohan watched cocoon eagerly. June 2016
Butterfly tried hard to come out of the cocoon. But it could not.
Oh! Butterfly, I will help you.
Using scissors, Rohan made the crack bigger.
I am very excited!
Yippee! The butterfly is coming out slowly.
The butterfly has come out‌ but...it is unable to open its wings properly.. something is wrong...

Mentor Speaks
A perfect
chilthdat? What’s Bringing up a perfect child has two ways: an easy way and a difficult way. Child psychologists think that growth and development are controlled mainly by heredity.

- Ms. Swati Popat Vats The environment in which we grow up plays a much more important role in our development and growth. Children are born with certain abilities that can blossom when supported by a rich and stimulating environment. How does one make a child intelligent? Intelligence is part inherited and part cultivated. The first part you will have to leave to your genes! To cultivate intelligence is extremely important for parents to understand that June 2016
intelligence thrives or grows with questioning. So allow children to ask questions. Questioning cultivates logical thinking and helps the child relate to the knowledge. How does one make a child honest?
Definitely with role models! There is no easy way out here! In addition, you must expose your child to stories that depict honesty and talk about it when you experience it in everyday situations. A very important question most parents ask, does it pay to be honest in today’s day and age? Yes, it keeps your spirit/soul beautiful and a beautiful spirit can boost self esteem, confidence and a ‘yes-Ican’ feeling. So honesty may not ‘pay’ but it pays to be honest! Truthful- goes hand in hand with honesty. But what is being truthful?
The easiest way to bring up a perfect child is to be intelligent, honest, funny, lovable, truthful and an achiever, yourself.
In today’s world people do find it exceedingly difficult to be completely truthful all the time. But a conscious effort can help. One of the first and most common situations in which a child experiences a parent being untruthful is the usual ‘tell him I am not at home’. As parents we are role models and this is where we teach our children the first lesson in social lying! Parents must understand when a child is ‘joking’, as young children love to exaggerate, just for the fun of it. Humour the child, instead of calling the child a liar. Young adolescents love to fib. Gently correct them, instead of saying ‘stop lying and showing off’ Therefore set forth on the difficult path to ensure that our children grow up intelligent, honest and yes most important with a sense of humour!
