TheBrambletonweknowtoday, onceexpansiveruralfarmlandon thewestsideofDullesInternational Airport,hastransformedintoa vibrantcommunityknownforits landscape,technology,andlifestyle. Thisremarkableevolutionhasbeen guidedbytheinnovativeeffortsofthe BrambletonGroupandBrambleton CommunityAssociation(BCA),who havecontinuallyadaptedtomeet thegrowingneedsofitsmorethan 22,000residents,demonstrating theirunwaveringcommitmenttothe community’sprogress.

Brambleton’sjourneybeganwitha clearvisionofcreatingacommunity thatblendssuburbancomfortwith modernamenities.Thisvisionwas notjustadream,butarealitythat familiesandindividualsweredrawn to,captivatedbythepromiseofa balancedlifestylethatofferedboth tranquilityandconvenience.Asthe communitygrew,sodidtheBCA’s roleinshapingitsfuture,culminating intheadoptionofits2023Strategic Plan.Thisplanoutlinestheroadmap forfuturegrowthandimprovements, focusingonsustainability,resident engagement,andassociation governanceandoperations,further solidifyingthecommunity’svision.

The Evolution of Brambleton

a renewedcommitmenttothe community’scorevalues,function, andaspirations.Accompanying therebranding,anewofficewas establishedtoserveasacentralized hubforcommunitymanagement, enhancing efficiency and accessibility forresidents.Additionally,Brambleton continuestoworktowardsbuildinga permanenthomeforitsmaintenance and lifestyle departments. The CommunityServicesFacilityhas brokengroundandwilloperateby mid-2025.

Technologicaladvancementshave alsobeenahallmarkoftheBCA’s evolution.Developingfiber-to-thehometechnologyandVerizonFiosin Brambletonwasacollaborativeeffort betweenVerizonCommunications andtheBrambletonGroup.Today, BCAcontinuestouseandimprove uponitstechnologytoserveits residentsbetterandbringefficiency toitsoperations.Recently,newIT systemswereestablishedforbetter managementofpoolpasses,work orders,andmeetingandminutes management.Thesesystems streamlineoperationsandimprove theeaseofaccesstocommunity services,reflectingBCA’sdedication tooperationalexcellence.

Thecommunity’scommunication platformshaveseenremarkable upgradesaswell.Theintroduction ofanewmagazineformat(this veryedition),enhancesinformation disseminationandengagementwith residents,providingthemwitha sleek,informative,andvisually appealingsourceofcommunity news.Furthermore,thelaunchofa

refreshedwebsitethatincorporates anewbrandidentityhasmodernized thecommunity’sonlinepresence. ThewebsitefeaturesBrunoBot,an innovativewebsitebotdesignedto provideresidentswithinstantanswers totheirinquiriesanytime,enhancing theresidentexperienceandensuring continuoussupport.

Together,theseadvancements underlinetheBCA’sproactive approachtoadaptingtotheneeds ofagrowingcommunitywhile maintainingahighstandardof livingforitsresidents.Fromits inceptioninthefieldsofVirginiatoits developmentintoathrivingsuburban anddesiredenclave,Brambleton exemplifiesthedynamicevolution ofcommunitythroughinnovative leadershipandaclearvisionforthe future.Thisongoingtransformation notonlyenhancesthequalityof lifeforcurrentresidentsbutalso setsarobustfoundationforfuture generations.

The Evolution Beyond Brambleton

Alongsidetheinternaldevelopmentswithinthe Brambletoncommunity,significantenhancementsin thesurroundinginfrastructureandrecreationalfacilities havealsocontributedtoitsevolution.

TheHalandBerniHansonPark,acornerstoneoflocal greenspaces,isagreatadditiontoourcommunity thato ersresidentsasereneenvironmentforleisure, recreation,andsocialactivities.Thepark’sevolution fromasimpleopenspacetoawell-equippedpublic parkcomplementsBrambleton’scommitmentto promotinghealthyandactivelifestyles.

TothenorthendofBrambleton,theBeaverdam Reservoirhasundergonetransformationstobecomea recreationalhub.Withactivitiesrangingfromkayaking tohiking,thereservoirprovidesanescapeintonature, addingtothequalityoflifeforBrambletonresidents andothers.Thisdevelopmentpreservesthenatural landscapeandintegratesitintocommunitylife, ensuringthatenvironmentalstewardshipremainsakey priority.Thisparkwillreopentothepublicwithitsnew facilitiesandamenitieslaterthisyear.

TheconstructionofNorthstarBlvdtoRoute50has beenanothercriticalandneededdevelopment.This newthoroughfarewillsignificantlyimproveconnectivity betweenBrambletonandsurroundingareastoour

south,reducingtraveltimesandenhancingaccessibility. Theroad’sdevelopmentwasstrategicallyplannedto accommodatethegrowingtrafficneedsofthecounty andregion,demonstratingforesightininfrastructure planningtosupportcontinuedgrowthandeaseof mobility for all residents.

RecentretaildevelopmentsinBrambletonhavebrought anewvibrancytothecommunity.AtBrambleton TownCenter,establishmentslikeBunnyTeaandRush Bowlsofferfresh,health-focuseddiningoptionsthat havequicklybecomefavoritesamongresidents.Paris BaguetteBakeryCafeatBram provides a unique blendofinternationalflavorswithitsarrayofbaked goodsandpastries.Lookingahead,thecommunity anticipates the opening of BKD Bagels at Brambleton Corner,whichpromisestobeago-tospotforfresh, deliciousbagels,sandwiches,anddrinks.These newadditionsnotonlycatertothediversetastesof Brambleton’sresidentsbutalsocontributetothearea’s charmandappeal.

Theseenhancementstoparks,naturalreserves, transportationinfrastructure,andexcitingnewretail optionshaveplayedpivotalrolesinthecontinued evolutionofthecommunity’sidentityasamodern, accessible,andenvironmentallyconsciouslocale, making Brambleton a highly desirable place to live.

Clean Water Initiative

CleanWaterInitiative:TheImpactofLoudounSoiland WaterConservationGrants

Brambletonboastsnotonlypicturesquelandscapesbut alsoacommitmenttoenvironmentalstewardship.Aspart ofthisdedication,LoudounSoilandWaterConservation offersgrantsaimedatenhancingwaterquality.While therearemanyeffortsthatimpactwaterquality,the Conservation’srecentfocushasbeenonpetwastestations andtreeplantings.Theseprojects,althoughdistinctintheir nature,shareacommongoal:safeguardingthecounty’s waterresourcesforgenerationstocome.

PetWasteStations:ACleanSolution

Petsareanintegralpartinmanylivesoffamilies throughout the neighborhood. However,withthis companionshipcomesaresponsibilitytomanagepet wasteeffectively.Thisiswheretheinstallationofpetwaste stationsplaysacrucialrole.TheAssociationcurrently has121stationsthroughoutthecommunity.Thegrant awardedbyLoudounSoilandWaterConservationforthis purposefacilitatestheinstallationofstrategicallyplaced stationsinparks,trails,andotherpublicspacesthroughout theneighborhood.

Thebenefitsofthesepetwastestationsextendfarbeyond mereconvenience.Byprovidingdesignatedareasforpet wastedisposal,thesestationspreventthecontamination ofwatersourcesbyharmfulbacteriaandpathogens presentinpetfeces.Moreover,theyserveaseducational tools,raisingawarenessamongpetownersaboutthe importanceofproperwastedisposalpractices.Ultimately, thewidespreadimplementationofpetwastestations contributestoacleaner,healthierenvironmentforboth humansandanimalsalike.

Tree Plantings: Nature’s FiltrationSystem

Intandemwitheffortstoaddresspetwaste,Loudoun SoilandWaterConservationdirects grants towards tree plantinginitiatives.Treesplayapivotalroleinmaintaining waterquality.Throughtheprocessoftranspiration, treesabsorbwaterfromthesoilandreleaseitintothe atmosphere,effectivelyfilteringoutpollutantsand impuritiesintheprocess.

Thegrantfundingallocatedfortreeplantingsenables theexpansionofgreenspacesandtheestablishmentof riparianbuffersalongwaterways.Thesebuffersnotonly stabilizesoilandpreventerosionbutalsoactasnatural filters,interceptingpollutantsbeforetheyreachstreams andrivers.Additionally,thepresenceoftreesenhances biodiversity,providinghabitatforwildlifeandfostering ecologicalresilience.

Inconclusion,BrambletonCommunityAssociation hasbeenawarded$7,000fortheinstallationofpet wastestations,andwearecurrentlywaitingonthe Conservation’sapprovalonthetreeplantings.The plantingsarealsoa$7,000awardthatwillgreatlybenefit thecommunity.

Byaddressingboththesourceandtheconsequence ofwaterpollution,theseinitiativescontributetothe preservationofourneighborhoodsnaturalheritage forgenerationstocome.Asstewardsoftheland,it isnecessaryforustonurtureandprotectourwater resources,andthroughcollaborativeeffortssupportedby thesegrants,Brambletoncontinuestoleadbyexamplein thisendeavor.

Returning to Excellence

Leavingajobcansometimesleadto unexpectedjourneys,butforme,the pathultimatelyledbacktowhereit allbegan–BrambletonCommunity Association(BCA).Afterventuring intothemanagementofother associations,therealizationdawned onme,veryearlyon,thatnoneof thoseassociationscouldmeasure uptothevibrantcommunity andexceptionalstandardssetby Brambleton.

Reflectingonmydepartureand subsequentreturneightyearslater, itbecameevidentduringmyyears awayfromBrambletonthatits allureextendedfarbeyondpretty waterfallsandlandscape.Brambleton wasaplaceofsubstance,vision, anddedicationwithaforwardthinkingapproach.Despitebeing underdevelopedandconstantly changing,thestaffmanagedto upholditsstandardsadmirably.

Oneofthemostnotableaspects ofBrambletonwasthepalpable senseofprogress.Newparkshad beeninstalled,andoldoneshad undergonetransformationswith updatedequipmentandnewvisions, cateringtotheevolvingneedsof

residents.Facilitieshadmultiplied, offeringaplethoraofamenitiesto enrichcommunitylife.Thenew officeandpoolthatwehadtalked aboutforyearswasunderway.

Incontrast,thecommunitiesI managedduringmyabsencefrom Brambletonstruggledtokeeppace withtechnology,infrastructure,and basicupkeepoftheirfacilities.Some associationsstruggledtopayforeven thesmallestimprovements,such asannualsattheirmainentrances. Thelackofprudentbudgetingfor operatingandreserveaccountsleft thosecommunitiesgrapplingwith deterioratingconditions,highlighting theforesightanddiligenceexhibited byBrambleton’steam.

WhatsetsBrambletonapartisnot justitsphysicalinfrastructurebut alsothepeoplebehindit.Atthe heartofBrambleton’ssuccessisits governancemodel,whichisstrongly supportedbytheBoard.Thismodel underscoresafundamentaltrust intheabilitiesandexpertiseofthe staff,allowingthemtoexecute theirresponsibilitieswithoutundue interference.Asaresult,thestaffat Brambletoncanfocusoninnovation andserviceexcellence,driving thecommunityforwardwhile maintainingthehighstandardsthat Brambletonisknownfor.

Thisgovernancestyleisatestament totheBoard’sconfidencein theirteamandakeyfactorin thecommunity’sdevelopment andexceptionalcommunity satisfaction.Withagroupof dedicatedprofessionals,thereisa reassuringsensethateverycorner ofthecommunityismeticulously attendedto,fosteringasenseof prideamongresidentsandthestaff. EverymemberoftheBrambleton communityIhavehadthechanceto meetexudespridewhenconveying theirtimeinBrambleton.

ReturningtoBrambletonwasmore thanjustaprofessionalchoice;it wasahomecoming.Itreaffirmedthe beliefthatsomeplacesholdaspecial magic,whereinnovation,community, andcommitmentconvergetocreate anunparalleledenvironment.Forme, BrambletonCommunityAssociation isn’tjustaworkplace–itisaplace ofexcellenceandatrueembodiment ofwhatacommunityshouldaspire tobe.

OursummerconcertshavefoundanewhomeattheBarn atBrambleton,wherethekicko onMay2ndwasahit, drawingover500attendees.ShaketheRoomelectrified thecrowdwiththeirmusic,whileHonorBrewing,Big KyleBBQ,andSugarySweetsservedupdeliciousfood. AsBrambletongrowsandevolves,sodoourevents.Our communityhasexpandedsignificantlyoverthepast20+ years,leadingtodynamicchanges,fluctuatingattendance, andlesseventspace.Whileweusedtohostmajorevents atthetowncenterandtheopenfieldoffEvergreen MillsRoad,we’vehadtoadaptandfindnewvenuesto accommodateourvibrantcommunity.BCAremains dedicatedtocreatingyear-longeventsforeveryoneto enjoythroughoutBrambleton.

Ensuring Safety at Our Pools: A Parental Priority

Asthesummerseasonapproaches, theBrambletonCommunity Associationinvitesallresidentsto enjoytherefreshingwatersofour communitypools.However,the enjoymentandutilityofourpools hingesignificantlyoneveryone’s commitmenttosafetyandcleanliness. Thiscommitmentbeginswith understandingthecrucialroleseach ofusplays,especiallytheparentsof youngchildren.Asweopenourpools, itisvitaltoemphasizethatwhilewater activitiesofferfunandrelieffromthe heat,theyalsorequirevigilanceand responsibilitytopreventaccidentsand ensureapleasantexperienceforall. Here,weoutlinethekeypracticesthat canmakeourcommunitypoolsasafe havenduringthewarmmonths.

AtBrambleton’spools,thesafetyof ouryoungestresidentsisashared concern,butitstartswiththemost directlineofdefense:theparents. Parentsofyoungchildren,especially thosewhocannotswimorareweak swimmers,playacriticalrolein preventingpotentialaccidents.Itis imperativethatparentsalwaysstay withinarm’sreachoftheirchildren. Thisclosesupervisionensuresthatthe parentsareimmediatelyavailableto reactiftheirchildfacesanydifficultyin thewater.Suchvigilanceisnotjusta safetymeasurebutanecessarypartof pooletiquetteinourcommunity.

Whileourlifeguardsarehighly trainedanddedicatedtomaintaining asafeswimmingenvironment,it’s importanttounderstandthescope oftheirresponsibilities.Lifeguards areondutytooverseethegeneral safetyofallswimmersandto respondtoemergencies.However, theyarenotpersonalattendants, janitors,referees,orbabysitters. Theirabilitytoeffectivelyscanand supervisetheentirepoolareacanbe compromisediftheyfocusexcessively ononeindividualorasmallgroup. Therefore,parentsmusttakeprimary responsibilityfortheirchildren’ssafety.

Itisessentialforparentstoproactively engageinreviewingthepoolrules withtheirchildrenofallagesbefore theyvisitthepoolforthefirsttimethis summer.Thispracticereinforcessafe behaviorandensuresthatchildren understandtheexpectationsfortheir conductinandaroundthewater.By discussingtherules,parentshelpinstill asenseofresponsibilityandawareness intheirchildren.Thisapproach supportstheeffortsofpoolstaffby reducingpotentialmisunderstandings andinfractionsandcontributestoa saferenvironmentforallcommunity members.Encouragingchildrentoask questionsabouttherulescanalsoaid inclarifyinganydoubtsandensuring theyfeelconfidentandsecurewhile enjoyingthepool.

BCA’sgoverningdocumentsrequirethat theexteriorofahomebemaintained inaneat,well-tendedandattractive manner,consistentwiththeprinciples ofgoodpropertymanagementandthe preservationofpropertyvaluesofboththe individuallotandneighboring/nearbylots.

Itisanhonortoserveasyour SupervisorintheLittleRiver District.I’velearnedsomuch theselastfewmonths,andI amexcitedtobeworkingfor youoninitiativesthatserveour growingcommunity.

Oneofthetopissuesfacingour countyrightnowisdatacenters. LoudounCounty’s“DataCenterAlley” istheworld’slargestconcentration ofdatacenters.Datacentersprovide ahighrevenuegeneratingtaxbase andhavehelpedLoudounfund ourbudgetwhilekeepingproperty taxrateslow.Theyalsohavehad asignificantenvironmentaland communityimpact,includingavastly increaseddemandforpowerthat hasoutpacedthecurrentcapacity ofLoudoun’ssubstationsand transmissionlines.

Datacentershavebeenatthecenter ofseveralrecentBoardinitiatives.The Boardstartedtheprocessthatwould removeby-rightdatacenteruse fromallzoningdistrictsandimprove environmentalandperformance

standards.Irequestedthatwerevise thenoiseordinancetoincludethe tonalnoisethatisemittedfromsome datacentercoolingfans.Thisnoise isanuisanceandahealthriskto residents.Ialsomadeamotionto addutilitysubstationstotheproject plantoimprovethearchitectural designof these facilities, especially nearresidentialareas.Mycolleagues supportedbothmymotions.

IserveontheTransportationand LandUseCommittee(TLUC)which hasbeenworkingonestablishinga communityroundtableprocesswith theFederalAviationAdministration toaddressincreasednoiselevels fromaircraftoverflights.Whenthe BoardofSupervisorsadoptedthe 2019AirportImpactOverlayDistrict (AOID)boundaries,thecommunity raisednoiseanddisclosureconcerns. AtourlastTLUCmeeting,wevoted torecommendthattheBoarddirect stafftoproceedwiththeCommunity Roundtableprocess.Thisitemwillbe votedonbythefullBoardattheMay 23rdbusinessmeeting.Iwillkeepyou updatedastheprocesscontinuesto moveforward.

TheBeaverdamReservoirParkis movingalongrapidly.Aswithany bigconstructionproject,itishardto predictwhenitwillbecompleted, butit is likelytoopentothepublic withinthenexttwomonths.Until thatworkiscomplete,thepublic isdiscouragedfromenteringthe constructionarea.Myofficeplansto workwithBrambletontocoordinate acommunityclean-upthissummer alongtheBeaverdamReservoirshortly beforetheribbon-cuttingevent.

WemovedtoBrambletonin2017fromReston.Weare generallynewtolivinginNorthernVAandhadtocheck outafewareasbeforewesettledinBrambleton.When wewerelookingforahome,welovedtheideaofhavinga viewofthemountainsfromarooftopterrace.Thankfully, Brambletonhasseveraloptionsforthat.Ialsoworkfrom homeandwantedagoodspaceforanofficethatwasnot onthegroundfloor.TheamenitiesofBCAarewonderful, andweappreciatethevaluewereceiveforourHOAfee.

Istartedcyclingabout5yearsago.Ourareaprovides awiderangeofoptionsforcyclistsandtheroadsare generallycyclingfriendly.Ihaveseencharitycycling eventsandopportunitiesbutwasdrawntotheGreat CycleChallenge(GCC)becauseoftheirmission.GCC raisesmoneyfortheChildren’sCancerResearchFund (CCRF).Forme,likemanyIamsure,seeingchildren sufferisabsolutelyheartbreaking.Wehadayoungboy inourchurchwhohadcancerandthenfoundoutthat ourneighbor’sdaughterdidaswell.Thisgavemeadeep connectionwiththebenefitofthiseffort.

Eachyear,GCC raises millions ofdollarsthatgoto theCCRF.Lastyeartheyraisedover$9million.This campaignisuniqueinthatitisnotasingleeventwhere

theparticipantshavetoallcometo asingleplaceandthenridespecific distances.Thecampaignisacross theU.S.Riderscommitadistanceto rideandsetagoalforfundraising. LastyearIraisedover$4000.Mygoalforthisyearisto raiseatleast$3500.Iwillride251miles.Theonemileis fortheonewelostrecently.Wetakeavictorypictureat theendoftheridewithourbikesliftedoverourheads. Itsignalstheendofourrideandthehopefulendof childhoodcancer.Thegrouppictureisagroupofriders whogettogetherforakickoffride.

ManyinthecommunitylikelyknowthechildInowridein memoryof,Caroline.In2012,Carolinewasdiagnosedwith PrimitiveNeuro-EctodermalTumors(PNET),araretypeof braincancer,whenshewasonly3yearsold.Therewasno standardtreatmentforhertypeofcancer.Shestruggled throughmanyattemptsattreatment,butshedeparted thislifein2023.TheBrambletoncommunityhasbeen sosupportive,especiallytheBrambletonMiddleSchool wheresheattended.
