Captains Quarters Hello all and I’d like to wish everyone an early Merry Christmas. I know the holidays mean a lot of different things to

December obviously brings a slow down to most racing and riding activities in our neck of the woods. We do have the MAMA Banquet to look forward to and of course the indoor flat track racing at Timonium which is always a blast. It’s a great way to keep the blood flowing, so to speak this time of the year. Whether you are competing or just going to spectate there’s a good time to be had. Check out their ad in our pages and watch for that discount coupon to get you through the door. Also in this issue find coverage from the Kawasaki Race of Champions. It was postponed this year due to bad rains and potential flooding but it didn’t discourage the faithful. Over 700 racers competed over two days in one of the biggest motocross races of the year. Find year end MDRA Champions, and off road racing coverage too. We have ECEA, NEOC and GNCC coverage this month, buy a vowel, right. That’s a lot of initials but thankfully you all know what they mean. To me, it means that our area breeds some of the best racers on the planet. Many locals have gone on to be National Champions as I’m sure many more will in the future. We also took some time this past month to go hang with the Central Mountains ATV Association as they did their annual Elk Tour in North West Pa. Close to 400 riders came out to cruise the backwoods of Pa in a casual but fun atmosphere. If you like to ride off road then you owe it to yourself to check this group out. They do lots of rides each year with many being for a great cause. Back to Christmas, if you’re looking for a great gift for that rider or racer in your family then we have you covered. We offer thousands of images on our website from past events. You could get them a t shirt or a hoodie or ask us about video options for the New Year. Nothing would fire them up more than a gift certificate for a Brapp Mag Video at the track of their choice. Give us a call or an email and go online for all your gift giving needs at: www.brappmag.com. Thanks for reading and we’ll see you all soon.

Hobbies: Lacrosse, Hunting, Basketball, Riding horses

The ECEA and Brapp Mag would like to congratulate Mackenzy Robbins on being chosen as one of our next ECEA Fast Kidz Spot Lights. Mackenzy started riding when she was 4 years old on a Yamaha PW 50. She was inspired to start riding by her father, she has also attended 100% of the ECEA Fast Kidz events this season and finished first place in the (9 - 11) junior girls class. This was her first full year racing ECEA events. Mackenzy is a member of Tri-County Sportsman, and her favorite race this year was Dog Town in West Virginia. She has also achieved two hole shots this year which is a great accomplishment. I think everyone who rides these events can’t wait for their hopes to nail the hole shot, she also has raced the NEOC in the past. Mackenzy is a straight “A “ student, and is also in the garden club, on student council and she is a tutor. I asked Mackenzy how she feels when she gets to the line and she said that she gets excited and nervous all at the same time. Mackenzy would like to thank Mom and Dad, her brother Timmy Williams, Rich Lafferty and the Gribbles for all their support. She would also like to thank all her sponsors: Mika Metals, MSR, Kenda, Perrymans Excavating and Easmunt Paving. Congratulation Mackenzy on an awesome race season, and being chosen to be one of our ECEA Spot lights, way to go, great job!

The ECEA and Brapp Mag would like to congratulate Cole Hickman on being chosen for one of our next ECEA/Brapp Mag spotlights. Cole has been riding since the age of six and started racing with the ECEA in 2014. Cole got his first place win at RORR in 2014 and he told me the feeling he felt that day is what inspires him along with his father ever since then. He has raced 100% of the ECEA races this season nailing numerous hole shots and 1st place wins to get the first place overall this 2015 ECEA Fast Kidz Race season. Cole mentioned to me that he gets the pre race gitters as I’m sure many do but he says that after that first lap it goes away and he’s ready to rip. Cole also mentioned that he loves to ride in the rocks and his favorite motocross star is Ryan Dungy along with some of his favorite treats like snickers, cherry air heads, gummy bears and he even has a favorite bike and that is the Red Bull KTM 450. Cole would like to thank a few people who are very dear to him, one of the most important ones is God who gives him power and strength. His father for being a great inspiration and his mom and pop-pop for all their support and of course his sponsors: Ron’s Auto and Cycle Max.. Cole also wanted me to mention his two best friends Chase and Levi, when these three get together there are the three musketeers. Congratulations Cole, you have definitely earned your spot in our spotlight. I have seen you grow over the past two years, I have seen your faith and passion to ride build you into the strong rider you are, nailing hole shots back to back and then getting the overall first place spot for your class. Way to go Cole congratulations!

POWERLINE PARK GNCC

St. Clairsville, Ohio Round 12 of the GNCC Racing Series October 17th-18th, 2015

Photos and story by: Mitch Rosenberry / MR1Photography Round twelve of the premier off-road racing series Grand National Cross Country takes us to the rolling hills of Ohio. Located just four miles down the road from the Ohio River sits a one thousand acre off-road facility which was once used for strip mining but is now dedicated to hill climbs, mud bogs, and miles of trails through the wilderness. This year being the 14th consecutive year that the GNCC series has been hosted at Powerline Park. It provides some of the best track conditions for riders containing a twelve mile track which includes muddy hill climbs, the famous mudhole jump, and wide open grass track sections. Bright and early Saturday morning came with a cold and frosty start of the youth race at 8 am which only lasts one hour. Shortly after the race ends track crews sweep the track, picking up broke down bikes and riders. At 10 am 294 riders line up in there designated start position and again take off on the 12 mile track, but this time the race is one hour longer (two hours total). Out of the three-hundred plus riders are two local riders Steve Cunningham riding the #416 Honda from Chambersburg PA riding in sport class. As well as Morgan Flannery riding the #436 from Mercersburg PA riding in 16-18 C. Lap times varied anywhere from 23 minutes to over 50 minutes. On the first lap Cunningham checks in at the finish rolling first in his class with an eight second lead, lap time just at 25 minutes. Two minutes later Flannery checks in 5th in his class with a lap time of 27 minutes. For the next hour and a half Cunningham gained a tremendous 13 minute lead over second place finishing first in his class and 15th overall out of the 294 riders. Meanwhile Flannery was able to gain a position and finished 4th just a second behind 3rd place, 33rd overall out of the 294 riders. The next race starting at 1 o-clock sharp after the track crew finishes sweeping the track, another 152 rider’s line up again on their designated positions and the 2 hour count down begins. On the line five Pennsylvania native XC1 Pro riders take off, Chris Borich aboard the #1 Yamaha from Sunbury PA, Jarrod Mcclure riding the #4 Honda from Kaska PA, Jay Shadron on the #9 Yamaha from Mount Pleasant PA, Chris Bithell aboard the #7 Suzuki from Irwin PA, and Cole Richardson riding the #5 Yamaha from Edinburg PA. The one to watch was Chris Borich riding aboard the #1 Yamaha. Previously switching from factory Suzuki to the Yamaha at the beginning of this season Borich has had a struggle all season not being able to put together a win with this being round 12 of 13. This weekend Borich was able to finish 3rd overall making this his 6th podium of the year.

Sunday October 18th, 2015 After another cold and frosty night, even some snow was spotted atop the local mountain ranges. Again at 8 am, the morning youth bike riders set off on their 90 minute race but with a slightly shortened track giving Tegan Temple #525 coming up one of the riders even more battling hill climbs looks for the fastest line to take. ground being able to make a total of eight laps. At the end the Jesse Ansley riding the super mini KTM adds another win to the books having a total of seven 1st place finishes and 11 podiums for the season. Next up Bike AM starting at 10 am with a total of 456 rider entries. Sportsman A class rider Alexander Dzikewicz riding the #338 KTM from Groton New York checks in first at the finish. Four minutes later WXC (Women’s Lites Class) Becca Sheets riding the #551 Yamaha checks in first in her class with the well know champ Kacy Martinez nowhere in sight. A little over a minute later the ex pro motocross rider Jessica Patterson aboard the #722 Yamaha checks in second, and Kendall Lafollette on the #465 Yamaha in third rounds out the podium. At 1 pm the main even starts, the PM Pro bike race features some of the fastest off-road racers on the planet. Riders like the Australian Josh Strang, Jason Thomas from England, Take Shi Koikeda from Japan, and Callan May from New Zealand; all line up on the starting line and take off on extended three hour race. Ryan Sipes aboard the factory Husqvarna team gets the hole shot leading the first lap, but Strang was able to take the lead coming into lap two. Back in third place was Thad Duvull also on factory Husqvarna only seconds behind Sipes. Pushing the bike to its limits Duvall’s bike breaks a fuel line still on lap two and this is it for him. Back in the XC2 Pro Lites class two Pennsylvania natives are running in the top ten Tegan Temple #525 KTM from West Chester PA, and Nick Davis #15 Husqvarna from Meshoppen PA. Heading into the third lap Davis breaks down near mile marker seven with a reported cracked piston. Temple is able to keep up but not enough, a little over two minutes behind the leader Jason Thomas. Temple finishes with a 5th place finish in XC2 Pro and 11th overall for the day. Heading into lap six Strang still holds the lead with a minute gap comes in first in XC1 Pro class and being his 1st overall win for the season.

CMATVA - Elk Ride By: Henry J. Sorgen IV President of CMATVA

Central Mountains ATV Assoc., Inc. held their 4th Annual Tour for Elk and Toy Drive on November 7th - 8th. We had a record number of club members with 192 riders on 126 machines on Saturday and 162 riders on 110 machines on Sunday join us for our member’s only club ride this year in Benezette, Pa. Once we got everyone signed in at the Elk Visitor’s Center we were off. We started our day with lunch at the Benezette Hotel and then a stop at the Benezette Winery Store, which everyone seemed to enjoy. We broke the riders up into four groups to help with everyone getting their lunch and visit to the winery completed in a timely manner. Then we started touring the township roads in Benezette for Elk. On Saturday we only saw 15 elk but on Sunday we saw 130-150 elk depending on which group you were in. We even got some pictures of Bald Eagles. Everyone had a good time visiting the Elk Visitor’s Center and some people even watched the movie on how the Elk were brought into our State. We collected 366 toys for our Clubs third Toy Drive to be donated to the Mark the Shark Toy Drive which is sponsored by Radio Station FM 92.1.in Lock Haven, Pa. We will be taking all the toys we collected to the Walmart in Mill Hall, Pa. on December 13th at 10:30 am. We are going to use our club’s Barrel Train behind one of our member ATV’s to deliver the toys to Mark the Shark. The toys are distributed through local charities with the help of students from Central Mountain Middle School and the Lock Haven Area Jaycees. We would like to thank everyone who made this event such a success. I would like to thank all of our dedicated member’s whom helped get everyone parked and signed in as quickly as they could to handle the 354 rider’s over the two day members only ride. We would also like to thank Benezette Township for allowing us to use the baseball field for parking all the trucks and trailers. We also would like to thank the Elk Visitor’s Center, the Benezette Hotel and Winery store for hosting our club. We would also like to thank Gerald Szalankiewiez whom made two elk carvings for the club to raffle off for our two day tour for elk ride. We even had the Tombob Outdoor show filming the two day ride and Jim Bull from Brapp Mag joined us in the parking lot on Saturday. You can see the pictures from our 4th Annual Tour for Elk and Toy Drive on our web site. www.cmatva.org

Come join the fun and become a member today and we will include your 2016 membership. CMATVA wishes everyone a happy and safe Holiday. Be Alert….Ride Smart….Stay Safe….

Registration, Titling and Insuring Your ATV Who must register and title?

All ATVs in Pennsylvania, except ATVs used solely for business or agricultural purposes, need to be registered and titled with DCNR. ATVs used in Pennsylvania must be registered and titled with DCNR’s Snowmobile/ATV Section. The ATV registration and titling fees are NOT user fees for the privilege of using trails on state-owned land. The fees provide funding to administer the program, maintain trails in DCNR-managed parks and forests, and provide grants to profit and non-profit organizations for developing additional riding opportunities.

Two Types of Registrations Apply: • Registration

For ATVS used anywhere off of your own property or property leased by you, such as designated State Forest trails. $20 fee every two years

• Limited Registration

For ATVs used solely on your own land or land leased by you. Free registration No expiration, unless ownership of vehicle changes.

Plates and Decals

An ATV owner will be issued a registration plate for the vehicle. An expiration sticker to be affixed to the plate will be issued for standard registrations.

Liability Insurance

If you are using your ATV solely on land owned or leased by you, you are not required to get liability insurance. All other riders must carry liability insurance. Proof of that insurance must be carried with you when you ride. There are no minimum requirements or coverage standards established by DCNR or the Snowmobile/ATV Law for the liability insurance.

KAWASAKI RACE OF CHAMPIONS By: Scott Lukaitis Photographer, Journalist and Powersports Industry Professional

The 39th annual Kawasaki Race of Champions or KROC took place over Halloween weekend at Raceway Park in New Jersey. Originally scheduled for the beginning of the month, KROC was postponed due to torrential rains the week leading up to and dismal forecast for the weekend. For the more than 700 racers who took part in the Fall Classic it was worth the wait. The weekend began with open practice on Friday followed by a Whip Contest, won by Andrew Maroney and a Wheelie Contest, won by Greg Pamart in the evening. Saturday’s racing for the minis, novice classes, amateurs and vets ran until the daylight subsided. Greg Pamart was a multiple class winner as was Nick Romano, Jack Rogers, Sal Cusimano and Brandon Hartranft. Sunday’s racing was for the Expert classes as well as special

Brandon Hartranft was the top Amateur racer on Saturday taking victories in all 6 of his motos. He backed it up on Sunday by taking the Ironman Classic victory.

Chaplains Corner Hello Brapp Fans, The Mercy of God One year when I was in the pro-am Kawasaki Race of Champion’s race I was in the last chance qualifier (LCQ). I came to the gate and only one other racer showed up, they gave each of us a pass directly into the main event. I did not have to earn my way into the main it was just given to me.

PA Powersports Show East York, Pa

Oct. 30 - Nov 1, 2015 The Pa State Snowmobile Association has been promoting their annual show for over 25 years now in central Pa. The show has evolved over the years and has grown

This is much like God’s grace and mercy. I failed to finish well enough to go directly to the main. Yet I was not required to run the LCQ, this was mercy. They gave me a free pass in to the main and that was grace. In your everyday life you will often fall short of perfection. Do you often look at what you have done and say, “boy I really messed up this time” or “I should have gotten up earlier”. Perhaps you say to yourself “maybe I should not even try, I keep making this same mistake” or “nothing good could possibly come out of this”. Having this kind of self talk in your mind has developed over time but it is very distractive talk. This type of thinking first steals your joy from everyday life and when left unchecked it will begin stealing your dreams and the brightness in your future. BUT God says in Romans 8:28 - “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” This verse tells us that with God, He will turn all our mistakes around and pour out good on us even when we do not deserve it (mercy & grace). He goes far beyond our failures and brings blessing into our lives, not looking at our mistakes but looking at JESUS’ righteousness which He gave to us. We are always qualified for His blessing I’ve been saying out loud lately “Lord Jesus you bless up, what I mess up”. I can’t fail because with God I am always a winner. Sometimes the journey out of a mess into order and clarity is long but it can be a fun one if we keep an “I am blessed” attitude. Lamentations 3:22-26 - “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.” Say out loud daily, “thank you Jesus for saving me on the cross, thank you that your mercy is new everyday, thank you that you will bless up what I mess up, I can only win. “ Winning in a race or in life is not always coming in first place, Andrew Short and Trey Canard are winners but they don’t first place every race. They certainly are winners and overcomers in racing and in life. You to are a winner too when you choose Jesus everyday.

PS To racers: Don’t look at your results look at your resolve. Jesus poured out grace for all of us,

Patrick Morrissey wins Plus 25 and Plus 30 B.

Brapp would like to feature Patrick Morrissey. Patrick got off to a late start in his motocross career only hitting the gates for the first time just three short years ago. Patrick started racing Hare Scrambles when he was 19 but only did that for a few years. He said he’s always just preferred to go out and ride for the day. He had been spending a lot of time practicing at Tomahawk and decided to give motocross a try. At the age of 34 he has managed to win the Plus 25 division racing against some of the faster expert riders and he also wrapped up the Plus 30 B title this year. Patrick is a mechanic by trade and likes to hunt and fish. He said MX is his stress reliever and plans to jump into the hot and heavy Open B division in 2016.

Name: Britton Atkinson Age: 24 Hometown: Kearneysville, WV Classes: Open A, 250 A, Unlimited

Britton Atkinson is your Open A and Unlimited Champion

Brapp would like to recognize Britton Atkinson. Britton started racing at the age of 5 and did very well right through the mini ranks and onto the big bikes. Unfortunately like many, the recession hit his family hard and they had to stop racing 6 years ago. After some rebuilding time Britton really got the desire to get back to racing and jumped back into the B division in 2014. Amazingly after 6 years off and a serious injury just prior to regionals he was able to qualify for Lorettas in the Open B division. He came back in 2015 at the expert level and again qualified in Open Pro Sport and this year won the MDRA Division titles in Open A and Unlimited. He’s also earned his Pro card and plans on kicking next season off at the High Point National. Britton asked that we thank his sponsors: first and foremost he would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for keeping him safe, his mom and dad, his trainer Matt Thompson with Anytime Fitness, Mika Metals, Factory Backing, DT1 Filters, Dunlop, Ryno Power and PR2. Arctic Cat Nitro Arenacross Tour Round # 1 - Nov. 13-14, 2015 Mesquite, TX Photos By: Checked Out Action Photography Words By: BrappMag

Two Creeks Racing Takes Texas by Storm As we move into the off season here in the great Northeast we wanted to keep bringing you the racing action. Some friends of ours from the Midwest contacted us about their indoor winter series so here we go. The Arctic Cat Nitro Arenacross Tour makes nine stops between now and mid-March in the great states of Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. Racing takes place on Friday and Saturday nights and it looks like they offer a full range of classes from 50cc beginner through Pro. Looking at the results on their website they had a great turnout for their first round and the payouts for the Pro classes looks pretty tasty.

The Pros lining up for action.

Two Creeks Racing team shows well in Texas. Eastin Burgher fills the slot in the 85cc divisions and he ended up with a top five slot at round 1. Then we have the brothers, Ryan, Nick and Tyler Bredenkoetter. Nick races 85 beginner grabbing a couple second place finishes on the weekend with older brothers Ryan and Tyler grabbing a couple of top three finishes on the bigger bikes. You can check out more info and the complete results at: www.nitroaxtour.com Matt Lemoine would be the guy to catch all weekend in the Pro ranks, he pretty much took the lion’s share of the winnings. Former local Addison Emory took a pro heat class win and finished second in 250 Pro on Friday night. It was good to see another former local guy from way back, Sean Hackley still at it and scoring well. Please watch our pages for future rounds and for videos and pics from all the action go to the Checked Out Action Photography page on Facebook or their website at: www. checkedoutaction.com

Team Two Creeks Racing had a great first round with their pro class rider Gage Mast grabbing a couple of top 10 finishes on the weekend. In the mini ranks Ethan Kidd grabbed a couple of wins in the 65cc divisions and they tell me this is a kid to watch.

Ethan Kidd (58) would lead the 65cc racers to the win.
