OVER 25 PERFORMANCE

YEARS EXPERIENCE!

Join a club or a series and shop local, your sport depends on it. One of the biggest things that jumped out to promoters during this years MDRA vs MAMA Shootout was the fact that many racers weren’t holding a yearly member card. The fact was that many have been purchasing one day cards instead. Now one of the great things about America is the fact that we have freedom of choice. I would encourage you however to consider for next year, to purchase a series membership card. The same applies to off road riding clubs, both two and four wheels alike. The cost of these memberships is so minimal in most cases compared to other expenses that we have in this sport. Most times memberships range from $20 -$40 and although you don’t see or feel an “immediate benefit” (like a free T shirt or something) from this, your membership fee helps accomplish many things behind the scenes. An example in the case of a motocross or offroad racing series could be the fact that a larger the membership base, the more sponsors are willing to support the programs and this in turn allows for better awards and year end prizes, maybe even better track conditions. On the flip side your membership fees could be going to help expand riding opportunities or keep existing ones intact. Many times, we take for granted what we have and feel that things will never change, and this simply isn’t always the case.

SPECIALIZING IN SUSPENSION & DEVELOPMENT

ENGINE DEVELOPMENT FOR OFF-ROAD, MX, AX, SX AND FLAT TRACK.

As far as shopping local, I know that we are being subconsciously trained to buy everything online, and yes, I do it too. Sometimes it just seems easier that way or it appears that we may be saving money. Maybe sometimes that works out, but in many cases its not always true. We get the wrong size, or they ship it to the wrong place.

JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP THE LAST COUPLE YEARS. I STRUGGLED FOR A WHILE GETTING COMFORTABLE ON A 450 AND I’M GLAD I ENDED UP WORKING WITH YOU. YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF HOW EVERYTHING WORKS AND COMES TOGETHER HAS HELPED ME TREMENDOUSLY OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS ON GETTING A BIKE SET UP.

Your local dealer, in most cases has invested years and tons of money to help you enjoy the sport that you love. Sure, they must make money, that’s why they take a risk and go into business. But remember they are also helping support the families of their employees and more importantly the activities that you love to do.

THANK YOU AGAIN, TOMMY COLUZZI

Hey Braap Mag, it’s Sam Cuomo from Velocity Cycles. We are a local Honda and BMW dealer located in Mechanicsburg, PA. We have been in the search for a unique new product that we can provide to the young riders to get them started, and we finally came across one that stuck out. We are happy to announce that we are now one of the exclusive Stacyc Electric Bike dealers. They currently offer two different models, the e-12 and the e-16. Our goal is to promote these items at different events, allowing kids to try them out for themselves and experience the joy of riding.

The Stacyc e-16, or 16EDRIVE is the perfect choice for little rippers with some experience on a balance bike and are a little taller and/or more familiar with riding STACYC Stability Cycles and need a larger platform. The ideal age range is 5-7 years old and this provides another step towards them becoming comfortable and confident on two wheels. The battery will last from 30-60 minutes depending on how hard they ride it and will charge up in only 45-60 minutes. This product offers 3 different modes to allow your child and yourself to feel confident and safe.

The Stacyc e-12, or 12EDRIVE, is the perfect choice for little rippers with little or no experience on a balance bike. Your child can learn to push, balance, and coast in the Non-powered mode. Graduate them to the powered mode as they show proficient use and understanding of the brake and the ability to coast and brake while standing. The bike then has 3 different speed modes to help them move up and feel more confident on a bike. This bike will allow a young rider to get the basics of balance on two wheels and allows them to progress to be able to ride with a throttle and brakes.

We are very excited to be able to offer such a great product to you and we hope you will stop by in store or at the track to have your little ones check these out. We offer free deliveries to any track we are going to on that weekend for this product as well as many others. You can contact us through any of our social medias (just search for Velocity Cycles), email us at parts@velocitycycle.net, call us at (717)-766-2523, or text us at (717)-562-3448.

Caught In The Act!

Happy Halloween everybody, I know it’s still almost a month away, but I wanted to get my scares in while I can. Although this holiday can sometimes be controversial, I thought I’d share a bit of history on its origins here. From Wikopedia: Halloween or Hallowe’en (a contraction of All Hallows’ Evening), also known as All halloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on the 31st of October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day and Reformation Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed. It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from Celtic harvest festivals that may have pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, and that this festival was Christianized as Halloween. Some academics, however, support the view that Halloween began independently as a solely Christian holiday.

Don’t forget also that it’s a great day to get your candy fix in and dress up and be somebody that you normally aren’t. So, with that we have our history lesson for this issue. Everyone tell your teachers that you have it covered for the month and who ever said that Brapp Magazine wasn’t an educational tool for all the racers among us has it all wrong.

Check Back Next Issue To see Who Might Get Caught In The Act!

Racing – oh yeah, that’s what we do. What a month September was for racing in our little scary neck of the woods. Lots of Pro Am motocross, barbie jeeps, fund raiser rides, hillclimbs and enduros and we have it all covered in this issue. Thanks to the hard work of many of our great contributors around the region, we can bring you all this.

BrappMag Staff:

Make sure you check out all our regular columns and please solicit the advertisers in our pages. Without them Brapp Magazine would not exist and many of our racing opportunities would be less. Keep in mind that they not only spend their money here to attract your attention but many also sponsor the local races in one form or another. Besides, nothing beats local service and attention.

Let’s hope that the October racing can be half as great as it was in September. Other than that, check out all the action in our pages, download our FREE phone app and keep an eye on our websites and social media pages in between issues. Thanks for reading and we’ll see you at the track or on the trail.

In November 2019 Tamaqua Native Thorn Devlin will compete in an International event in Algarve, Portugal. This event is the Olympics of the Off-road racing world and will consist of six days of racing, covering 935+ miles, competing against the best riders each country has to offer around the world. Being given the opportunity to represent the United States of America is an amazing honor by all and a once in a lifetime opportunity. This journey takes months of planning and preparation to make this trip possible and successful. With the motorcycle built and shipped to Portugal from our small town, it will make a near 4-month journey that started at the end of August. AMA Pro Hillclimb Championship Series - Round 6

Cipala, Koester, Libhart – Tops at White Rose Night Hillclimb By Jeff Whitehead - Jefferson, PA, September 21

Wisconsin rider, Logan Cipala, New Yorker, John Koester, and Phil Libhart, East Petersburg, PA, took wins in the Unlimited, Xtreme, and 450 Singles classes, respectively, at the White Rose Motorcycle Club’s second annual night hillclimb. Cipala took over the Unlimited Class points lead from rival Koester, while Koester extended his already wide Xtreme Class points lead, and Cipala tacked two more onto his lead in 450 Singles Class points. Veteran rider, Libhart, tackled the hill first in the 450 Singles Class. He showed the others how it’s done with an 8.395-second E.T. Michigan rider, Trey Hagstrom posted an 8.92-second time, moving into second. Rookie Ronnie Vena, Johnstown, PA, crested the hill in 9.383 seconds. Koester topped the hill in 8.656 seconds to move ahead of Hagstrom and Vena. Late in the order, Logan Cipala crossed the finish line in 8.575 seconds, just ahead of Koester at the half. Libhart sat out the second half, waiting to see if he’d be challenged successfully. It never happened- his first ride put him on the top podium step in 450 Singles, flanked by Cipala in second and Koester in third. As daylight was dimming, Devin Sweitzer, from York, PA, led off the Xtreme Class, posting an 8.589-second ride. Indiana rider, Jack Mason bested Sweitzer by a tenth-second with an 8.443-second E.T. Bryan Rusnak, Portage, PA, took over third by cresting in 8.619 seconds. Then Koester soared up the hill in just 7.547 seconds for a commanding lead. Libhart wedged into second, posting a 7.857-second E.T. Late in the order, Logan Cipala knocked Mason out of third with an 8.314-second ride. At intermission, Koester held first place, followed by Libhart and Cipala in second and third, respectively.

The Whiterose fans love the night climbs

Like Libhart in Singles, Koester waited and watched during the Xtreme Class second half. No one challenged successfully, so his first ride stuck for the win. Koester’s ride turned out to be the fasted ride on the night in all classes. Libhart stood on the second step of the Xtreme podium and Cipala stood on the third step. Darkness had fallen by the time Delta, PA’s Cory Strickler kicked off the Unlimited Class with an 8.578-second ride. Nick Briggs, New Hampshire, posted an 8.712-second E.T. but he and Strickler were eclipsed by Koester’s 7.613-second time. Trey Hagstrom bumped Briggs back one more spot by topping the hill in 8.683 seconds. Logan Cipala took the lead overall, crossing the finish line in just 7.599 seconds. Libhart moved into third at the half behind Koester with a time of 7.915 seconds.

Logan Cipala, in black, heads for the crest and the Verti-Cross win

John Koester (c) took the win in the Xtreme Class

In second-half Unlimited action, Cipala watched rider after rider try to best his time. None did. Koester laid down a promising ride, but jumped over the finish line timing light, scoring a distance rather than a time. The order for the top three riders did not change in the second half. Logan Cipala took the win, followed by Koester and Libhart in second and third, respectively. Exhibition Verti-Cross competition followed the traditional classes. Heats consisted of two riders going head to head on 450 Singles-spec bikes. The final pitted four riders going for the win elbow to elbow. Logan Cipala took the win, followed by Hagstrom and Koester in second and third, respectively. B Results Round 6: Unlimited: 1. Logan Cipala (Buell); 2. John Koester (Hon); 3. Phil Libhart (Tri); 4. Cory Strickler (Yam); 5. Trey Hagstrom (Hon). Xtreme: 1. John Koester (Hon); 2. Phil Libhart (Tri); 3. Logan Cipala (KTM); 4. Jack Mason (Hon); 5. Devin Sweitzer (Kaw). 450 Pro: 1. Phil Libhart (Yam); 2. Logan Cipala (KTM); 3. John Koester (Hon); 4. Trey Hagstrom (Yam); 5. Ronnie Vena (KTM).

Yamaha All Star Pro Am - Doublin Gap MX Sept. 14-15, 2019 Shippensburg, Pa

Malachi Kraft was your top mini cycle racer

Barbie jeep racing, a live band, good food and 37 Open A racers were just the tip of the iceberg. A 125cc All Star race that was off the hook, an enormous fund raiser for some families in need and oh yes, some great MDRA racing action. Did I mention over $12 grand in pay outs and a $15,000 plus fund raiser? The folks from Doublin Gap and their sponsors have been putting on this event for years in Central Pa and every year it just seems to get bigger and better. Saturday started off with open practice for all racers along with a two moto 125 A/B All Star race which offered some of the closest racing I’ve seen in years. As the day progressed, we moved into the annual Barbie Jeep races which have become a huge crowd favorite followed by a complimentary pig roast for all in attendance. The days highlight was the silent auction fundraiser which raised a lot of money for some families in need capped off by a live band on Saturday evening. On Sunday we awoke to sunny skies and a lot of great racing action. Yamaha racers won 9 of the 18 motos but the man of the day would be Yamaha Pilot Joey Crown from Michigan. Crown swept this event in 2018 and made his return to succeed again winning all four expert motos sweeping the Lions Share of the prize money. Check all of the class winners below then head on over to the MDRA website to see the full results and check out images from all classes at: www.brappmag.com B RESULTS

MAMA PRO AM AT BUDDS CREEK Sept. 21-22, 2019 By: BrappMag.com

Late September took us back to Budds Creek for round 10 of the 2019 MAMA MX race series and the second fall Pro Am in our neck of the woods this season. MAMA hosts this event annually and unlike last year the skies were clear and the weather near perfect for fall mx racing. Saturday started off with the usual two rounds of practice followed by MAMA’s regular Saturday race schedule. Shortly after the second set of motos the Best Whip competition kicked off over at the old finish line tabletop. To the crowd’s delight, riders had five minutes of practice runs followed by ten minutes of jumping competition. The $500 to win grand prize payout came from B Line Racing, Bumpsticks, King Racing, Garraway Racing and Weaverling Enterprises. After the whip contest riders and their families came together to enjoy a rider appreciation picnic catered by Traders Racing and Restaurant and some live music by the Warren Drive Band.

Scott Clark wins Best Whip and $500 cash

Sunday, we awoke to another beautiful day for the regular race schedule and the Pro Am motos that offered up $3000 and points towards earning your pro race card. Jake Runkles would be the man on this weekend sweeping all four motos and taking home the Lion’s Share of the money. Select classes received hole shot awards on Saturday from B Line Racing and on Sunday from MAMA MX. In total over 400 riders came out to enjoy this annual event. MAMA’s next race is at Budds Creek on October 19-20 and is the 50th anniversary of the D7 Blue/Grey race. Watch for more info coming soon from Brapp magazine and online from MAMA. Please enjoy some images here along with the class winners then head over to: www.brappmag.com to see all images from the weekend. B Traders racing helped sponsor the Saturday night picnic

NORTH CENTRAL PA ATV INITIATIVE Objective: Connect communities and four DCNR ATV Trail Systems in Northcentral PA to boost the economy through increased tourism. It was just four short years ago when some folks from the Central Mountains ATV Association and the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails met with the DCNR and other local legislators, tourism committees, business owners and residents to present their dream of creating a network of legal riding here in Pa like the Hatfield McCoy Trail System in WV. To date the CMATVA has helped legalize and sign 688 miles of legal riding in Pa. The goal with the help of Governor Wolfs recent signing of the Fiscal Code HB 1929 is to have 1400 miles of legal riding running from the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails the whole way to the NY state line by 2024. One of the first phases of the development is to link the Bloody Skillet to the Whiskey Springs state trail system through the town of Renovo to be completed by April of 2020.

North Central PA ATV Initiative Updates: August 14, 2019 Senator Scarnati recently scheduled a meeting regarding the status of the Bloody Skillet to Whiskey Springs Connector project. The meeting was held in his Harrisburg office on August 14, 2019. Invited to the session were Rep. Stephanie Borowicz, Officials from DCNR and PennDOT, and Central Mountains ATV Association. PennDOT chose not to respond to the invitation. DCNR was represented by the Deputy Director - John Norbeck, State Forester - Jason Albright, and two officials in charge of special projects. CMATVA was represented by President - Henry Sorgen IV, Vice President - Todd Peifer, and NCPA ATV Initiative Chair - Rich Wykoff. The session was coordinated and chaired by Legislative Director for Senator Scarnati – Adam Pankake. Following is a synopsis of that meeting.

Discussed: • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

DCNR is working on finding different avenues of funding for the Bloody Skillet to Whiskey Springs Connector Trail and the estimated cost to build the connector trail. DCNR presented a list of things that are being done and have been done to support ATV recreation within the NCPA ATV Initiative region. New section of trail connecting to Denton Hill trail system. Lyman Run State Park pilot project. Investigating possibility of a connection between Kettle Creek State Park and Whiskey Springs Improvements to Haneyville ATV Trails (Duncan’s Demise) Continued annual support of the Bucktail Medical Center Relay for Life team’s “Renovo ATV Cruise For A Cure” fundraiser Larson Group’s feasibility study regarding the Bloody Skillet to Whiskey Springs Connector Trail A statewide study (the GAP Study) showed that interest in ATV recreation is growing. DCNR leaders have been investigating the impact of ATV recreation in other states such as New Hampshire and West Virginia. The economic benefit is real. This Fall, DCNR will evaluate / investigate a project for connecting the Denton Hill Trail System to the Notch Road. DCNR noted that the Huling Branch Run remediation project is being scheduled to begin in the near future. That will affect riding at Whiskey Springs as happened with the previous project. That may impact the connector trail project. DCNR made it clear that at this time there is no effort to change policy (as directed in the recently enacted fiscal code). Instead, they are attempting to find solutions or “work–arounds” that would essentially create the connector without taking the required step of changing DCNR policy that blocks use of forestry roads. DCNR is looking at connecting Whiskey Springs ATV trails to Leidy Township (Stewart Hill Road) and Cross Fork. They are also looking at a possible solution for connecting Kettle Creek State Park to Whiskey Springs ATV Trails.

Summary:

The meeting was essential to enabling the Initiative and the Connector Trail project to move forward. It was precipitated by Secretary Dunn’s letter in response to Commissioner Jeff Snyder’s query about the status of the implementation of Governor Wolfe’s charge to PennDOT and DCNR to work together to build the Bloody Skillet to Whiskey Springs ATV connector trail. The NCPA ATV Initiative map was useful in helping attendees to focus on the size of the overall project, the potential impact of the initiative on the region, and the important role the Connector Trail plays in assuring the success of the project. It was evident throughout the discussion that all were aware of what this project means to tourism and economic impact. Existing code does not allow DCNR to open forestry roads to ATV traffic. They will not be making changes to the policy manual regarding use of forest roads by ATVs. DCNR stated that they have been “doing everything through the Governor’s office.” Their position is that they need time and resources to implement the changes that are required by the new law. Adam Pankake, Legislative Director for Senator Scarnati and Representative Stephanie Borowicz are going to have further discussion with the Governor’s office and PennDOT / DCNR related to questions, concerns, and issues that resulted from this session. Specifically, they intend to determine why the two departments are not complying with the Governor’s directive to change policies as was signed into law. We have some forward movement with DCNR on the Bloody Skillet to Whiskey Springs connector in the last two weeks which came from our meeting at the Capital. We will be working with DCNR to go over the breakdown of the cost of the different sections of the connector. We are also meeting with DCNR to look at some private land that can be used. We will be looking for other Non-Profit ATV groups who would like to be part of the grant process to help use our own ATV grant monies to pay for sections of the connector. If your ATV Club would like to be involved, please contact Henry Sorgen. Central Mountains All-Terrain Vehicle Association Inc P.O. Box 4 Lock Haven, PA 17745

JimBull TALKS

By Jim Bull TALKING ABOUT FALL So, each month before I write this corner, I simply ask God – what does somebody need to hear and faithfully he always answers me. Sometimes it takes a while but today it happened very quickly. I’m not sure why, but I’m guessing that someone who is reading this column, really needs to hear this message right now. In case you don’t know, that’s how God works in our lives through His Holy Spirit. Yes, the Fall season has arrived, so maybe he just wanted me to share that news. But I’m guessing since we all know that, it may go deeper. We also Fall when we crash our motorcycles, sometimes we get up quickly but other times it takes a while to heal. Then sometimes we simply Fall in life, whether it be in a relationship, at school or in our career. There are obviously many ways that we can Fall.

The big question is, what do we all do when that happens? Do you remember the first time you fell off your dirt bike? I know I do, I hit a big groundhog hole on my Honda Mini Trail 50. I was about five years old and I got up and was crying and wanted nothing to do with the thing. Right away my dad (my earthly Father) came running over and made me get right back on. I didn’t want to do it but in a few minutes, everything was just fine. So, lets see what God (our Heavenly Father) has to say to us about Falling.

Proverbs 24:16 For though a righteous man falls seven times, he will rise again, but the wicked stumble into calamity.

Psalm 37:23-24 The LORD directs the steps of the Godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. Psalm 145:14 The LORD helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. Psalm 146:8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the godly.

Psalm 118:13-14 I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

The good news is that if you seek God and if you make the effort to learn how he would like you to live, that when you Fall he will help you back up and everything will be just fine.

THANKS FOR READING BRAPPMAG!

I would challenge you not to believe me, but to find out for yourself. That if you Fall to talk to God and then listen to what you hear back. To download the Bible App and read just a little bit of scripture each day so when you do Fall, you’ll be ready to grab another gear and keep going.

As always, if you need help or direction, contact us here or at Jim Bull Talks on Facebook. BRAPP MAGAZINE October 2019
