Hi everyone! The Potomac Vintage Riders York Swap Meet and Bike show is only 2 months away, so it’s time to mark those calendars for Sunday January 26th 2020. The Swap Meet/ Bike Show runs from 8 am -3:30 pm. The move to the larger UTZ Arena at the York, PA Fair allowed us to have the largest crowd ever. Well over 2500 people in its second year. This year we will have 20 more vendor spaces within the swap meet. The event attracts vendors from all over the East coast and Midwest and has grown into one of the biggest Swap Meet/Bike show events of the year. The “Bike Show” organized by the Nick Taylor and the Broomworks crew attracts over 100 of the finest vintage motorcycles and is a huge crowd pleaser. The show is judged, awards custom trophies and also allows you to select the “People’s Choice Award” for best bike. We will have the Penton Group (John and Jack) with their display and Terry Cunningham returning again to bench race with and sign autographs. Terry is a four-time AMA Grand National Enduro Champion, ISDE Gold Medalist and AMA Hall of fame inductee. The Pentons, well they need no introduction. The “Bike Corral” will showcase the vintage bikes for sale. This area is a great success with easy access and ample room for viewing. So whether you’re looking for parts to finish a restoration, a new project to start, finding a finished gem to purchase, or just meet up with old friends, it’s all here under one roof. You won’t want to miss it!!!! Vendor spots, bike corral and other event information are available from Tommy Grimmel, PVR President. Contact Tommy via email at swapmeet@potomacvintageriders.com

SWEET RIDE AT CANDYTOWN VINTAGE CROSS COUNTRY PVR VINTAGE HS SERIES
Yamaha IT’s of Doug Kurz (230) and Shane Reichart (91R)
By: Glenn Hershey, AHRMA XC# 71T Photos By: John Wierman For Round 8 of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Assn. (AHRMA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Series we find ourselves at the Candytown Motorcycle Club grounds in Elizabethtown PA. We’ve been racing here for a number of years now and as always the club and its members go above and beyond for the vintage crowd so a little club backstory is in order: Established in 1962 and several miles down the road from the Hershey PA chocolate factory (candy town, get it?), they have a motocross track, great clubhouse with kitchen, showers, XC trails and trials sections … this place has all you could want and the hospitality and great food at cheap prices are second to none. 135 member families keep this little piece of paradise finely groomed thanks to mandatory track and trail work days. Everybody pitches in or you risk being pitched out! Candytown MC makes full use of the 25 acres they have available, squeezing out a 3.5 mile XC loop with the fun mx track thrown into the mix. We’re glad to report a record setting crowd of 107 entries for this venue from vintage pre-1975 era to the pre-2000 bikes. Well, off to the races … the 7/10 mile of groomed, rock-free mx track started us off and helped spread out the riders before exiting stage-left into the woods. We picked up some smooth flowing 2-track trail at first gradually turning into enduro-type single track with the required rocks and roots to keep you on your toes. Dryer than usual weather meant minimal mud and lack of slippery conditions despite the rugged terrain. A good mix of twisty 2-track and single track with minor elevation changes followed, ending with a couple turns on the mx track before hitting scoring. A nice thing about the transponder system, you get a big screen read out of your place in class as you go thru. In second place?... you need to turn the right wrist more! Vintage race first overall was claimed by Christain Brumbaugh of the Open Expert class leading flag to flag and turning sub-15 minute laps on his trusty Yamaha DTMX. Harrison Walkama (200 Expert) and Dave Kutskel (+50 Expert) filled out the podium. The afternoon Post-Vintage race was once again dominated by a manon-fire, Mr. Brumbaugh (200 Expert) this time IT mounted and turning laps under 14 minutes. New to our series is Craig Shenigo (+50 Expert) who claimed second overall. Craig was an ECEA A-class hot-shoe in the past, proving he hasn’t lost his speed. Candytown MC member Mark Hummel (Open Expert) pushed hard for third overall on a 1980 Husky. Largest and most competitive class of the day was Post-Vintage +60 Intermediate with Dave McIntyre holding on for the win over Doug Kurz, separated by 27 seconds over 4 laps. Of note: Joe Cole, a longtime stalwart of the Mid-Atlantic logistics crew and +50 Intermediate class racer, accepted his “black stripe” (expert) promotion to start the next round. Congratulations Joe!

Two more rounds in October finished up the 2019 series, both of which were new venues for AHRMA Mid-Atlantic cross country. Thanks to Dave Kutskel as the mainman for the organizational work to pull off a great 10 round series. Sponsors of this series do a lot of the heavy lifting including title sponsor the Potomac Vintage Riders club. Known primarily as the organizer of the York PA Vintage Swap Meet and bike show (coming Jan. 26, 2020), they give back to our group in so many ways. Continuing 2019 sponsors also include WER Suspension, VEE Rubber, Preston Petty Products, Stainless Cycle and Brunnett Custom Fab. Check out our page on Facebook at AHRMA Mid Atlantic Vintage Racing and on the web at potomacvintageriders.com B Mark Hummel (491) claimed first in PV Open Expert and 3rd overall Anthony Long’s (193) immaculate Penton and Paul Thomas’ (74T) neat Hodaka

PA Trails Foundation and PA OHV – Year in Review By: Denny Mann
What a year the Pennsylvania Trails Foundation and Pennsylvania Off Highway Vehicles Association’s ATV Simulator Training Squad has had. We traveled from the Ohio boarder to the New York state line. Our twelve events had us visiting ten counties in Pennsylvania. Seventeen training squad volunteers educated and trained over 1,000 kids as well as, informed 300 parents of ATV Rider’s Ethics and the importance of taking the required Youth ATV Safety Course. Many of our events were Youth Field Days sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Game Commission. At these events we often work hand and hand with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Forest Rangers. The three Rangers that helped this year utilized an ATV that had been ridden by a youth in Perry County who lost his life when he collided with a tree to demonstrate real life consequences and the degree of danger involved when riding an ATV. These vehicles are not toys and must be treated with respect at all times.

Dealers Welcome
New this year has been the use of our adapter plate, which can hold a dirt bike or snowmobile on the Simulator. This spring we found out two of our events in June were scheduled for the same day. We didn’t want to choose, so we got to work on configuring an adaptor plate. We were able to present with the ATV Simulator at one event while at the same time used the adapter plate to accommodate free-standing dirt bike training. We did further adjustments and used it as an additional training station at our last event, the Wizard Safari Scout Jamboree in Wrightsville PA. In the spring of 2020 we are planning to apply for a federal grant for Dirt Bike Simulator Training. This grant would help diversify our training selections for our events. Over the training season we devised new methods of instruction, because when you teach 300 Scouts in one day our old methods needed to be refined. As a result, we are adding an additional volunteer training component to the safety program. 2019 has been a very productive year with the new and the old coming together for our best training season yet. The Anthracite Trail Riders, a club dedicated to promoting the AOAA, hosted the Lock Haven area, Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc., on a ride through the park. Twenty-nine machines and approximately 40 members participated in the 45 mile ride that spanned the Western and Eastern Reserves with several stops along the way for sight-seeing, lunch and getting to know other members of each club. ATR and CMATV presidents, Warren Remig and Henry Sorgen IV, respectively, were on hand to ensure members had a great time on the trails. Both organizations are non-profit and heavily involved in promoting the off-roading sport through club rides, sponsoring charity events, volunteer work and supporting legislation that expands the Pennsylvania ATV trail systems, and most recently, successfully lobbying state representatives to pass a bill that separates ATV and snowmobile registrations. The Central Mountain ATV Association has also been at the forefront of the Northcentral Pennsylvania ATV Initiative Project, which has been expanding ATV trails by hundreds of miles in the North Central region of the state, and expected to bring an economic boost to the area through more tourism and related activity. CMATVA Takes it “To the Streets” at the AOAA Shamokin, PA Oct. 26, 2019
In late October the Central Mountains ATV Association participated in another historic “Taking it to the Streets” ride at the AOAA Trails. This event not only allows riders to enjoy the 1000’s of acres of off-road riding at the facility but also allows them to ride to the nearby town of Shamokin, Pa to solicit the local businesses and help boost the local economy. The ride, now the third of its kind was a success as hundreds of riders participated. It helps the local eateries, gas stations and businesses that offer supplies and groceries etc. One of the goals at the AOAA is to make this a regular occurrence for the customers and its always been one of the driving forces behind the CMATVA and North Central PA ATV Initiative. MAMA MX - 50th Anniversary Blue Gray Race Budds Creek MX Oct. 19-20, 2019

JimBull TALKS
By Jim Bull
In late October we were back at the legendary Budds Creek MX Park to celebrate the 50th running of the AMA District 7 Blue Gray Motocross Race. The Mid Atlantic Motocross Association (MAMA) who is the sanctioning body for District 7 motocross would be our hosts for the weekend. Things started out great with a good crowd on hand and the Saturday racing was off the hook. Mother Nature would once again get her claws into things however and we awoke Sunday to torrential downpours and the days events had to be cancelled. You can check out some action below and check all of Saturdays results at: www.mamamx.com B
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL Yes, the local racing season has passed and one of the many things that means is that we won’t be seeing each other as much as we normally do. I wanted to take this time to wish everyone the very best of the Holiday season. We just passed “Thanksgiving” and I just wanted to let you all know that I’m thankful for each and every one of you. That you all bring something special to my life. It is my prayer that you all had things to be thankful for on that special day. Matter of fact that you are grateful daily for all the things that you do have rather than the things that you might not. Here’s a great quote that just happens to be on the calendar I have in my office for the month of November: Gratitude opens your eyes to the endless opportunities that expectation has hidden – Steve Maraboli NOW LET’S SEE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT BEING THANKFUL: - 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. - Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. So up next then we have Christmas – one of the really, big ones. It’s a time to exchange gifts, visit with friends, attend holiday parties and yes, give thanks once again. I guess I could ask you at this point, what Christmas really means to you? Can we go back to that part about being thankful again. I wanted to save the big one for this really big holiday so we’ll go back to the Bible again.
The age classes were well represented at the Blue Gray.
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Wow, talk about having something to be thankful for – that’s the ultimate one right there. I’d urge you if you understand what that truly means, to give thanks to God in this upcoming holiday season with every ounce of your being and to share this message. If you don’t know this truth I would ask you to research it a bit, to ask a friend who may know or to reach out to us so we can share this special Christmas message with you. Merry Christmas to all. AS ALWAYS, IF YOU NEED HELP OR DIRECTION, CONTACT US HERE OR AT JIM BULL TALKS ON FACEBOOK.

8th Annual CMATVA Elk Tour and Toy Drive
AUTHORIZED DEALER
Nov. 9 - 10, 2019 Benezette, PA
Central Mountains ATV Assoc., Inc. held their 8th Annual Tour for Elk and Toy Drive on November 9th -10th in Benezette, PA. Our “members only” association ride had an amazing combined turnout of 490 riders on 237 machines! Registration took place first thing at the Elk Visitor’s Center ECCO building and then we broke down into groups to enjoy a wonderful catered lunch by the Benezette Hotel and a visit to the Benezette Winery Store.
6547 Nittany Valley Drive Mill Hall, PA 17751 Tel: 570-726-3471
The event kicked off at 11:30 and everyone returned to the visitors center by 4pm. We rode over 80 miles on the township roads which are open to ATV’s in Benezette township and some private land that CMATVA has permission to ride on. Of course, every group is not going to have the same experience but in total CMATVA members saw over 150 Elk on each day of the ride. Everyone had a good time visiting the Elk Visitor’s Center and Mark the Shark joined us on Sunday to personally thank all the riders for their toy donations.
CMATVA collected over 500 toys for our Toy Drive portion of the ride which was a record for our group. We will be presenting the toys to the 25th annual Mark the Shark Toy Drive on December 8, 2019 at 10:30 am at Walmart in Mill Hall, PA. This event is sponsored by the radio station WSQV 92.1 FM in Lock Haven, Pa. and the toys are distributed through local charities with the help of students from Central Mountain Middle School and the Lock Haven Area Jaycees. A special thank you goes out to everyone who made this year’s 8th Annual Tour for Elk and Toy Drive such a success. We have a remarkable group of dedicated members who helped in many ways from parking to registration and keeping the group rides organized and everything moving throughout the day. You can see the pictures from our 8th Annual Tour for Elk and Toy Drive on our web site. www.cmatva.org and our Face Book page. Come join the fun and become a member today and we will include your 2020 membership. CMATVA wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Be Alert….Ride Smart….Stay Safe…. Thank you, Henry J. in the door and he’s been the driving force not only vending at many local races but also as a competitor. Jared had to take last year off from racing to get his business legs under him, but he has picked up a few riders that compete in both the National Enduro tentative Series and GNCC competition. In speaking with Jared recently he told me that he plans on getting back on the track in 2018 too. Schedule He will once again return to one of his loves, racing the PVR Vintage Harescramble Series inRacing the Open Expert division aboard his Suzuki PE 250. He also plans to race several of the National Enduro races on a bone stock Sherco 250 two1stroke machine. His only RND JANUARY 5 plans are to throw on some bark busters and a skid plate and go. Check back as we’ll keep you updated on his progress there. RND 2 MARCH 22 My bet would be that the huge success that he is having at South Mountain is based purely on his love and knowledge of the sport.
