Caught In The Act!

Happy New Year everybody and welcome to our first and last issue of 2020. What, you may be saying but yes, the time has come to make the change and officially stick to it. If you are familiar with our publication, then you’ll know that two years ago we tried to make the transition from a traditional printed publication to an online only entity. I believe the time was right then, but many didn’t. So, after a few short months we came back with the printed version, six times a year. Its been a good ride, but surveys show that it is no longer a viable product. Yes, some still love to pick it up and read it, including me. But not enough.

For Sale - Rocket Raceway

Hence the decision has been set in stone to continue to print this one time per year, annual edition for Motorama. It gives show attendees a chance to view all the promoter’s yearly schedules and get an insight to what the new riding and racing season holds.

Check Back Next Issue To see Who Might Get Caught In The Act!

We’d like to take this time to thank all of our readers, sponsors, advertisers and contributors for their long-time support of what we do. It was way back in 2002 when we started this crazy journey in to this side of the business and its been a great ride.

2019 CROSS COUNTRY SERIES WRAP UP Words by Glenn Hershey Photos by Steve Bowman.

Some Halloween fun at White Rose MC, our final round last October.

The 2019 Cross Country series in the Mid Atlantic region was a definite success with good weather at 8 of 10 rounds and great participation at all ten. Numerous classes were hotly contested in both Vintage and Post Vintage categories. Contenders need six class finishes minimum. Vintage 200 INT had six contenders battling all season with Larry Warner taking the win over Grant Reichart. Vintage 60+ INT was a packed class as well where Dave McIntyre held off the charges of Anthony Long and Mike Ruggiere, finishing one-two-three on the season. In PV action, Randy McCoy took first for the season in the competitive PV 200 INT class over Brian Holley in second, Ryan Tosta in third. The PV age classes are always a hot-bed of competition. Joe Cole bested five other contenders in PV 50+ INT to take the win. Kevin Marshall followed in second with Tommy Tippett in third. PV60+ INT also had six racers in contention with Doug Kurz winning out over Dave McIntyre and Anthony Long. At the top of the Expert ranks, Rylin Pacella claimed first in PV 200 EXP over Christian Brumbaugh while in PV Open EXP Brian Grove took home the gold followed by Mark Hummel. We are pleased to announce the following XC advancements to Intermediate status: David Salmen, Kevin Webb, Lamar Zell, Ed Klinger, Kerry Kubena and Lynn Perkins. Advancing to Expert are: Joe Cole, Larry Warner, Brett Reichart, Joshua Zerance and James B. Waddell. Get ready to race, the new season starts April 5th at Rocket Raceway. Please see the series schedule in this issue and follow what we do at AHRMA Mid Atlantic Cross Country on Facebook for race flyers, photos and more. NORTH CENTRAL PA INITIATIVE UPDATE – DECEMBER 2019 MAKING SUSTAINABLE CONNECTIONS & SUPPORTING LOCAL ECONOMIES - STARTED JUNE 2014. In late-December a group of folks met in Central Pa including state legislators, representatives from the DCNR and Penn Dot and local business owners and riders alike. Their mission is the North Central Pa Trail Initiative in Pennsylvania which will eventually open over 1700 miles of legal OHV riding here for ATV’s and Side by Sides here in the state. It was just five short years ago when some folks from the Central Mountains ATV Association and the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails met with the DCNR and other local legislators, tourism committees, business owners and local residents to present their dream of creating a network of legal riding here in Pa similar to the Hatfield McCoy Trail System in WV. Click Here to see the proposed trail system: http://cmatva.org/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/2019-12-04-System-Map.pdf To date the CMATVA has helped legalize, sign and maintain 981 miles of legal riding in Pa. The goal with the help of Governor Wolfs signing of the Fiscal Code HB 1929 is to have 1700 miles of legal riding running from the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails the whole way to the NY state line by 2024. Click Here to read the Fiscal Code: https://issuu.com/brappmag/docs/oct18final-web/26 One of the first phases of the development is to link the Bloody Skillet to the Whiskey Springs state trail system through the town of Renovo by April of 2020. DCNR representatives explained to the group that limited resources and finding the best route has slowed down the process, but it is still a goal to complete as soon as possible. A next step would be then to get an approximate 5 mile stretch from Whiskey Springs connected to the Quiet Oaks Campground near the town of Cross Forks. Progress has been made here and the CMATVA is working with a local business along route 144 near Cross forks to help make this a reality. The groups are also working with Penn Dot to obtain the state road trail connectors that are needed to help make allow the who system to come to fruition. New in 2019 over five new townships opened their roads to riding, mostly in Tioga county and other ATV Clubs and organizations from the surrounding counties are joining the cause to expand the system even more and grants were received by DCNR and other organizations to help expand trails in the region. Some goals for the initiative in 2020 are to continue to: • Continue the forum on ATV Related Economy • Open Noyes Township Rd. to Middle Branch parking lot at Whiskey Springs ATV Trail System • Open a trail from Beech Creek to Bloody Skillet • Link SSRT to Clearfield, Elk, & Cameron Counties • Link the Waterville / Pine Creek Valley to Coudersport Pike • Continue to open Tioga County Municipalities • Work on Hyner to Renovo, Coudersport Pike, and Farrandsville These are just some of the things that need to happen to continue the cause. We need everyone’s support in any way possible. Please reach out to your local representatives and let them know that you support the initiative. Please participate in fundraisers and rides when you can, join one of the clubs or associations that support the cause and please above all obey the laws and ride responsibly. With your help I know the dream can become a reality. Stay tuned to our websites & the Central Mountains website for regular updates at: www.cmatva.org B

Well it wasn’t exactly what you’re thinking - but it was the annual Hangover Harescramble put on by Trail Pros and the Sprint Cross Country Series (SXCS). Close to 500 racers from all around the Mid Atlantic region converged on the Wicomico Motorsports park to do battle on a cold day in early View Complete Results and all Class Champions Online at: January. The weekend started off on Saturday with riders clinics by Andrew DeLong and Becca Sheets, two of the fastest off road riders in the nation. 26 riders total took part in the six hour training clinics. On Saturday evening the skies would open up and drop tons of rain on the venue leaving slick conditions on Sunday morning for the Micro and Youth racers.

http://www.moto-tally.com/SXCS/Results.aspx

20 of the 24 Micro age riders that started would finish the 45 minute event in some pretty cold and slick riding conditions. A big way to go - goes out to all who entered under these conditions and to Landyn Dalmasso for grabbing the O/a win. Next up would be the one-hour youth event won by Cole Forbes followed by the morning race around 11:30. Talk about holy congestion as line after line of racers passed though the first turn. Over 250 racers would cover the course in an hour and a half race with David Redman bringing home the overall.

Owen Barnes receives congratulations from series promoter Bill Schlag for winning the Youth Ironman award.

The afternoon main event would see another 150 riders line up to race the 10 mile course prepared by Billy Schlag and the Trail Pros crew. Jarrett Mohn would chase Henry Symanski for the first two laps after Mohn crashed right after the start. He would make the pass on lap three and never look back to take the win finishing just two minutes ahead of Symanski and just over four minutes ahead of third place Devin Cafasso. PROPOSED CHANGES ON THE WAY FOR RIDING ATV’S ON STATE FOREST TRAILS: January 21st, 2020 By: Lisa Adams Pennsylvania considers adding more ATV riding trails through state forests. They will seek public comment through March 27th. The state has about 285,000 registered ATV’s. This week, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) plans to outline proposed policy changes for ATV trails on state forest lands. They will also be seeking public comment. Pennsylvania has more than 260 miles of ATV trails in state forests. The department is reviewing its policy to respond to increasing demands for riding opportunities and well as interest from local governments in expanding tourism. “The purpose of the policy is to provide guidance to DCNR when acquiring, developing and managing lands for ATV use by the public,” Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said. There had been a moratorium on new trail development, but the policy revisions now authorize DCNR to consider new ATV trails and connectors on state forest lands. “New ATV trails will be considered, while still balancing the protection of natural resources as outlined in the Environmental Rights Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution, and the needs of all types of recreational users on DCNR lands,” Dunn said. In a 2016 survey of ATV users, more than 4,800 responded with many indicating a strong desire for more long-distance trails. Pennsylvania has around 285,000 registered ATVs. On state forest lands, ATV riding is allowed only on designated trails. Public comments were taken at a meeting in Harrisburg January 22, at the Rachel Carson State Office Building. But we need your help! - Written comments can be submitted to PaForester@pa.gov. The deadline to submit comments is March 27. - Please email your support to: PaForester@pa.gov

Central Mountains ATV Association www.cmatva.org COME RIDE WITH US Our 2020 calendar is loaded with exciting rides and events. One of the things we started five years ago was planning our monthly rides out on a yearly schedule. This way our members can plan ahead on which rides they want to participate. We have some members plan their vacations around some of the long weekend rides such as the Potter County Memorial Day weekend ride, Quiet Oaks Campground weekend ride or the CMATVA Cruise for a Cure. We try to plan one big ride each year out of state. In 2018, a group of us rode the Hatfield McCoy Trails in West Virginia. In 2019, we rode the Windrock Adding more Chairpersons with more of our staff taking on more duties. We ATV Park in Tennesse. RENOVO ATV CRUISE FOR A CURE - 2019 The Renovo ATV Cruise for A Cure is held every June, which our association sponsors for the Bucktail Medical Center’s Relay for Life team. Attracting hundreds of participants, this was another record year for this 9th annual fundraiser that raised over $10,000 to fight cancer. 2020 will be bigger and better than ever. Our trail committee will begin working on the route in January. This year we are again holding the event in the Flaming Foliage lot and having the parking area next to Bucktail Medical with the primitive camping behind Bucktail near the pond. The first leg of the ride will head toward Whiskey Springs ATV Trails from Renovo and from there on to Quiet Oaks Campground and back to Renovo with a favorite stop at Renovo Vista Overlook. MEMBERSHIP - CMATVA CONTINUES TO GROW Our club was started in 2002 by Lynn Probst and Wayne Yahn. They set the bar on how our association should operate and run with guidelines for us to follow. They both were great leaders of CMATVA. We respect and thank them for the values they set for us to follow. We set record numbers in 2019 having just over 2000 members. We think our club’s growth has come from having a good leadership TEAM, from providing two guided rides every month, and from extra weekend rides that involve camping. As the association was in the beginning, we remain an association that likes to ride. Members receive regular updates on rides and club news via email, Facebook, and the CMATVA website. In the summer of 2016, we had a restructure of our management team. BRAPP MAGAZINE February 2020

2019 ECEA AWARDS BANQUET

The ECEA recognized and thanked their dedicated volunteers

Valley Forge PA - January 11, 2020

It was a night of celebration as the members of the East Coast Enduro Association and ECEA Harescrambles Series gathered at the Valley Forge Casino and Convention Center to recognize their 2019 champions. As always, the house was full at this annual event. Both enduro and harescramble racers gather under one roof to present awards to some of the fastest riders this country has to offer. The ECEA has been notorious over the years for producing not only local but National and International champions. This association that was formed in 1972 continues to offer one of the best off-road programs this country has to offer. The evening format kicked off with a social hour followed by a fantastic buffet style meal prior to the special awards and crowning of the 2019 champions. Association President Jamie Theurkauf thanked all the ECEA sponsors along with their officers and board members and the army of volunteers that works tirelessly to help put on these events prior to crowing the champs. The ECEA hosted 31 events in 2019 averaging 539 riders at their harescramble events and well over 200 riders for each enduro they held. 2020 promises to be another great year with a new title sponsor in Revzilla with 38 events on tap. Find their schedule elsewhere in our pages and for a list of all points champions visit: www.ecea.org B

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN 2020 Isn’t it always the age-old question as we enter a new year and a new season – what will this year bring? Maybe not, I’m sure there are some of you who are focused and have clear goals and a plan of action in place. Whether it be for your relationships, your career, your racing season or just life in general.

878 E. Main Street Ephrata, PA 17522

717.738.1184

Or maybe you’re like many of us and you know what you want but just don’t have a clue how to get there. Below find a very true quote I found floating around social media last week that applies not only to our morals but to all that we do in life.

DUAL SPORT DREAMING - GIVE US A CALL!

In the image above Chief Sitting Bull (no relation) talks about feeding his inner self. About whatever he gives the most attention and thoughts too, that emotion or action will prevail. Have you found that your life is much the same? Have you ever wondered why? Or maybe you just don’t know why you are getting the results you are. Unfortunately, many are never taught information like this. I know I hadn’t been exposed to anything like this until I was in my late 20’s, oh how I wish someone would have explained this to me earlier in life. LET’S LOOK AT ANOTHER ANGLE AND SEE WHAT THE BIBLE HAS TO SAY ALONG SIMILAR LINES. The scripture to the right comes from the Book of Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, Seek, Knock 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. **Below message is for both believers and non-believers** Now, I’m not sure what your beliefs are but wouldn’t it be great if it were just that simple. Wouldn’t it be great if you got every sale you asked for, or that every person you asked on a date said, yes. Maybe you just need a few extra bucks to get through the week, wouldn’t it be cool if you just asked this imaginary God and an envelope showed up on your doorstep. I’m here to tell you that if you will dig into the scriptures in the Bible and that if you can have the unshakable Faith, that God wants you to have everything that you need and desire. That if you’re willing to trust in God, then take the actions described in those words in the Book of Matthew, that your envelopes will be full, that you’ll have the relationships you desire and that you will reach all your goals in the coming year. I’ll ask you to not take my word for it, but to explore these truths for yourself. To reflect when there was a time you needed something and said that little prayer and it miraculously came true. When maybe you had some fear holding you back and you broke through the barrier and took action, and all of the sudden it really wasn’t that bad after all. I must urge you to be careful here, however. Let’s return to the wisdom that Sitting Bull shared with us above. This principle will work for both good and bad. If you seek good and productive things you can achieve that goal but in the same token, if you are feeding yourself or seeking negative or unproductive thoughts you will get the equal result. So make yourself a promise in this new year and this new season. That you will ask for what you need and have faith it will be given. That you will seek out new ways to improve your life and that you will knock on the door of happiness and results and accept it into your life. One last thing, even if you have to go hide in a corner to do it. Read that little black book called the Bible and ask God daily for your wildest desires. B
