CALL - 717.766.2523 TEXT - 717.562.3448 HEALTHY LIVING By Jim Bull HOW I LOST 40 POUNDS IN 4 MONTHS WITHOUT GOING TO THE GYM

BEFORE

AFTER

It’s like many non-truths out there - so please don’t buy into the fact that you need to sweat it off. And please don’t misunderstand my statement, I believe that exercise is a critical part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle and these days I try to spend at least two days a week at the gym. In the beginning however it was different. Can any of you reading this tell this same story? I walked on the treadmill faithfully for 6 months, 3 days a week for an hour a day and I only lost 5 pounds. What happens next, that’s right you quit. I’ve been going to the gym for over a year now and I see the same hard-working folks there working their butts off but unfortunately, I don’t see the changes that they are looking to make. So, what’s the secret you ask? And did you really lose 40 pounds in 4 months without working out? The answer is yes, I did and the secret comes down to nutrition, not exercise. The formula works out to about 80% what you’re putting in and 20% what you’re working off. Its really quite simple if you have the right information. If you’d like to know more about how you can do the same, please contact me today for some no obligation information. The bottom line is – we usually don’t know, what we don’t know. Call or text today. 717.951.5620

Potomac Vintage Riders Opener Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Series RESTORE, RIDE, REPAIR, REPEAT Rocket Raceway April 8, 2018 There’s no doubt that Mother Nature sure has a sense of humor when it comes to motorcycle racers. This event was no different than most others this spring in that respect. Just a week before the PVR Mid Atlantic Vintage riders were scheduled for their opening event at Rocket Raceway in Three Springs, Pa track owner Mark Carlton and series promoter Dave Kutskel were faced with the critical decision, do we race or not? With a foot of snow on the ground and temps below freezing the call was made, were racing. Needless to say it was the right call as a near record turnout showed up on a cold Sunday morning for the event. Fortunately, all the snow was gone by race day leaving the Rocket course in prime condition for this popular series that continues to grow and offers great off-road racing for those with a flair for days gone by. New this year to the series is transponder scoring which is provided by the promoter and helps make scoring easier. The day is divided into morning racing for the pre-vintage bikes (pre 1975) and all novice riders with afternoon offering racing for bikes up to 1994. The only requirement is that you join AHRMA if you want to qualify for year end awards. They also offer a youth series at select events. Todays racing would see Brian Grove race to the morning win with Craig Jones winning the afternoon event. Check out the links below for both results and images from the day and stay up to date on Facebook at: AHRMA Mid Atlantic Vintage Racing and check out their upcoming event schedule here in our pages. Race results can be found here: http://potomacvintageriders.com/crosscountry.html Race images from the day can be found here: https://mraphotos.photoreflect.com If you just love to ride then check out this 10 race series.

The dead-engine start is on the MX course, and the first bit of slightly dusty racing was done there before the trail broke off into the woods via a string of mudholes. The woods section was full of perfect traction twisty back-and-forth single-track that challenged riders to get their left-right rhythm cranked up, and just when you thought you had it dialed, the hills started getting in your way. One of the hills was tricky enough to be unused for the Vintage event, but was waiting for the PV victims, I mean riders, when their race came around. The trail continued to meander across the hillside, getting increasingly rocky until it exited onto the grand-prix style grass course that allowed for top-gear runs across the fields. If your piston survived your blurry-eyed, wrist-twisting sprint across the plains, you had one more section of loamy trail, and a couple turns of the MX track before your first 5-mile loop was done.

Area In theQafternoon Post Vintage race, Early Modern Open expert Chris Henry took his 14-minute lap times to a win over 50+ experts Dave Smeal and Jeff Oakley. The kids’ races covered entrants up to 15 years old on both vintage and newer machines, and the vintage race was won by Logan Holley in the 11-13 age group. When non-moto folks ask me about this type of racing, I often dumb it down a bit and describe it as old guys on old bikes racing through the woods. The 50+ age classes are always the biggest groups. But it looks like I may have to change my wording as there are a lot more young riders showing up to race the old bikes, and we’ve even got a womens’ class competitor showing up regularly. So what’s your excuse for missing out on all this fun? Check the schedule here in this issue, or hit up the facebook pages for AHRMA Mid Atlantic Vintage Racing or Youth Vintage Hare Scramble for more info. Ride On! B

Delaware Enduro Riders – ECEA 55th Annual Delaware Enduro

Kenny and his starter crew did an excellent job.

Delaware City, DE By: Brapp Mag In Late April we traveled to the beautiful shores of the Delaware River to witness the 55th running of the annual Delaware Enduro. Rain the night before left the course muddy and slick to get the day started and of course the temps were chilly as most of our spring racing has been. This did not deter the well over 200 riders to mount up and chase the gold on this day. I thought it appropriate that 55 rows of riders would start this 55th Annual event but to my even bigger surprise almost 190 riders finished the 70-mile ride on the day under these conditions. Again, it was cold, but the mud was the real culprit to start the day. The course did get nice and tacky as the event wore on and most looked like they were enjoying the DER course. This year’s event consisted of approximately four 10 - mile loops with about 25 miles of transfer. Riders would complete two full loops with a 30-minute gas stop and layover in between to determine the winners. There was no time keeping at this event with ample resets at the end of late sections plus free time to get to the next section. Check out some of the results here then head over to www.ecea.org to get the full scoop. You can also check out more event photos on our website at: www.brappmag.com. Next up will be the Ridge Runner Enduro on 6/9-10. B

2018 PaOHV News Brief First Quarter - 2018 ~ Denny Mann, Assistant Director Over the winter the change in PaOHV leadership between Dick Lepley and Jack Clark was finalized. Jack Clark is now up and running as the new PaOHV Executive Director. During this changeover period the organization saw movement with RULA, the addition of Adult ATV Safety Training though the DCNR, a new DCNR Simulator Grant, and the addition of an ATV Trainer list to the DCNR website. This spring PaOHV began scheduling outreach training opportunities for the public. The Simulator Safety Training Unit has been booked for nine events this year stretching across the state from Sewickley to Masthope, Pennsylvania. Since the main objective of the Simulator Training is to promote the enrollment of students into a sanctioned ATV or Motorcycle Safety course, we have invited local instructors to join us at all of our events. The Wizard Boy Scout Jamboree in Wrightsville started us off in late April. Thanks to the PaOHV members who volunteered, this event was a great success. We also would like to give special thanks to the man in charge of the event, John Hess, for feeding them so well. It will be hard to beat a crab soup lunch and steak dinner. In May the unit traveled to Seltzer’s Power Sports dealership located in Altoona, Pa. This was our first event held at a Corporate Member’s place of business. Kudos to the dealership for providing proper, prudent ATV operation practices to their customer base. On another front PaOHV’s Eric Bruggeman with the help of Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area’s Director, Dave Porzi hosted a Maryland/Pennsylvania OHV Association meeting in late March at AOAA. MOHVA representatives, Ken Kyler and Daryl Anthony

were seeking information on ride park management. Maryland has recently opened a new ride park outside of Frostburg, MD and is planning to locate another ride park near Kitzmiller, MD. Currently the Frostburg location is being managed by the Maryland Forestry Department. However, the Kitzmiller ride park will be managed by the Maryland Department of Parks because of their knowledge and expertise in public recreation. After the meeting the two associations were given a tour of AOAA by PAOHV member Kathi Kleckner. Off Highway Vehicles were well represented on this ride with a Jeep, a dirt bike, an ATV and a side by side. Another issue addressed by PaOHV resulted in a conference call on April 24th to discuss the future of the Foggy Mountain Enduro and the Michaux Dual Sport. The same dedicated club members who have promoted these events for over thirty years were ready to step down. Both of these events have had a long history with their respective State Forest homes. The true issue for both events was not with the DCNR but with the lack of individuals willing to volunteer their time. Fortunately, Susquehanna Off Road Riders has worked out an arrangement with Valley Forge Trail Riders for the continuation of the Foggy Mountain Enduro. Subsequently, AMA Off-Highway Government Affairs Manager, Steve Salisbury has found a private advocate for the Michaux Dual Sport. The next time these events will be held will be a training session for the new promoters. We at PaOHV are giving this effort our full support. Consider coming to support all OHV events held on DCNR Forestry land and then take the time to write a thank you note to the hosting Forestry District. B

Five Star Powersports Trail Report Riding Rock Run Recreation with The CMATVA By: Jim Bull Friday the 13th brought the first nice day of spring to the mountains of central Pennsylvania. On Saturday the weather stuck with us as we met up for our first ride of the month with the CMATVA. The Central Mountains ATV Association (CMATVA.org) is a 1500-member strong group based out of Lock Haven, PA that rides as a group twice every month no matter what mother nature throws at us. On this day in April, 35 machines would gather at the Rock Run Recreation Area in Patton, PA and spend six hours navigating the muddy and rocky terrain that this park has become known for. This weekend’s adventure started for us on Friday as we arrived at the Blue Knob State Park about an hour south of the riding area. Rock Run does offer camping but we elected to stay at the park due to its vicinity to our sponsoring dealer for this ride, Five Star Powersports in Duncansville, PA. For those of you that haven’t been following along on our outdoor riding adventures, each time we ride we have a sponsoring dealer put us in a machine to review for you all. This gives us the opportunity to experience different machines and hopefully share some insights for when you’re looking to make your next purchase. Although we’ve ridden some very nice machines to date, we’ve been itching to get a shot at this new release from Yamaha, the Wolverine X4. I spent some time in the Wolverine R Spec two seater after its release a few years ago riding at the AOAA so I had high hopes for this new rec/utility

14 BRAPP MAGAZINE June 2018

machine from Yamaha. We picked up our loaner from Five Star on Friday evening then headed back to the campground to get a good night’s rest before our ride. Let me tell you, if you’re looking for a new machine, you may want to give these guys a call. They are a Yamaha, Suzuki, Polaris and KTM dealer and boy do they have the inventory. Not only do they have just about any machine you could imagine, I hear they have great prices too. Plus, they sell this kick butt machine I’m about to tell you about which is definitely worth a look no matter what your riding style. To be honest I wasn’t sure quite what to expect from this new 4 - seater from Yamaha. I have always been a fan of the brand and I knew the R Spec was a sweet machine, but here we had a different animal. I can tell you this before we get into too many details, my wife said repeatedly on our 30 mile journey, “I think this is the one, I think this is the one”. And if there’s anything I can share with you after working in this industry for 35 years and being married for close to 30, Happy Wife - Happy Life. Plus, this machine rocked, usually the ladies like those comfortable, safe type machines, lol - this might be the one guys. It offers all that plus this baby goes and its assembled in the good ole USA. I could go on and on about the numerous features this machine has to offer. From the great handling to the smooth ride. Every X4 comes equipped with Yamaha’s famous EPS (electronic power steering) and front adjustable gas charged shocks with automatic

rear leveling suspension. Yamaha equips their machines with full underbelly metal skid plates for riding in the rocky and rough terrain and this beast offers optimal ground clearance with standard 26” aggressive tires to get the job done. I could talk about the bucket seats that hold you in place with full driver adjustability along with tilt steering and easy to reach controls. I could talk about how the machine will comfortably haul four adults and how the back seats offer better passenger view of the trail or easily fold up to offer a full cargo bed to haul all your stuff. How about the shorter wheelbase for a vehicle with this people moving ability and its under 60inch width to navigate the toughest of trails. Oh, did I mention that new 850 parallel liquid cooled twin engine with adjustable speed control? This baby has power to spare plus one of the first things we noticed was its smooth and quiet operation. My wife and I were actually able to hold a normal conversation no matter what speed we were traveling, something that many machines lack. I could go on and on about the

new 2018 Yamaha Wolverine X4 but I’d rather leave it to the pros. Check out the link below to get all the details from Yamaha and make sure you pick up a copy of the next Brapp Magazine to learn more. Get all the details on this great machine at: https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/recreation-sideby-side/models/wolverine-x4-se We had another great ride with our friends from the Central Mountain ATV Association. If you’re always looking for somewhere to ride or someone to ride with, you may want to consider checking this group out. Membership fees are minimal, and they ride twice a month, every month. It’s nothing like making new friends and riding new trails, plus there is safety in numbers. B

ROUND 5 OF THE SRT /AMA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP HARE SCRAMBLE SERIES

Max Fernandez (1) wins the Youth division.

Photos: Dan Morton Story: Kenny Held 5/5 - 5/6-2018 Sahara Sands Eagleswood, NJ - Round 5 of the SRT /AMA East Championship Hare Scramble was hosted by Motorcycle Competition Incorporated (MCI). This was also to be Rd 3 of the ECEA HS Series. It was a great day in south Jersey with over 630 racers in attendance and incredible spectating, it was time to Roar at the Shore. The club did an excellent job laying out a 12 mile trail for the main event. Mostly an open track, Sahara Sands is not your typical SJ event. This was more of a desert race with 70% of the track wide open Whoops and Turns. When the green flag dropped it was Husky mounted ‘Wild’ Wally Palmer with the holeshot and he would lead the 1st lap. Unfortunately on the 2nd lap he would fall victim to a crash. When he came through scoring, he was in 2nd place and his left side was torn up. KTM’s Jesse Groemm would take the lead. Not losing sight of the leaders was Bromley Beta’s Kyle McDonal. The three would battle during lap three with less than 30 seconds between them. New England’s own Brendan Riordon made a last lap attempt for the podium and was successful, missing the pits and all. He would make a last lap pass on Palmer who would crash again and then get “Run Over” by another racer breaking his sub frame. Notable mention goes to Mike Beeler Jr. who finished 5th overall from the A-200 line. As a result of Round 5, Kyle McDonal now extends his points lead even further from last years #1 plate holder Wally Palmer. If Palmer wants to retain his 2017 #1 plate, he will need to put his head down, focus and finish with a perfect season. In the Morning C event there was no absence of action. The 9.5 mile loop was similar to the Youth Main the day before so it was pretty well broken in. The dust was definitely a factor as the much anticipated rain never came. Regardless, Brayden Nolette, Hunter Keen and William Homes would wow the crowd. The up and coming Youth racers demonstrated how they could get it done from the Schoolboy 1 and 2 lines. They finished 1-2-3 ahead of the rest of the field and they were all on Super Mini’s. In fact all the Top 5 came from the Schoolboy classes. In the Youth Main, it was none other than Mad Max Fernandez who would take the holeshot with Brayden Nolette giving chase. After only a few minutes one could see Fernandez pulling away in the open fields. Max is currently undefeated in AMA East and Nolette is currently undefeated in ECEA. The anticipation would have the crowd on their feet but as the race went on, Fernandez would extend his lead with no signs of slowing down. At the mid-way point the crowd would applaud Fernandez for a successful Pit Stop. No joke, there were Cheers and Jeers as he entered the pits without incident. Minor South Jersey pit infractions have been haunting Max for several years now. Max would go on to win the event with Nolette a few minutes back. Kyle Grenewicz would make a steady charge from the 2nd row to round out the podium in 3rd. In the Juniors it was a full house with no absence of talent. Loretta Lynn’s gold Medalist Canyon Richards and Local MX Champion Jaden Palmer would give it a go this day. Jaden in the 10-11 65cc and Canyon in the 7-9 65cc. Local ECEA favorite Austin Tsakinikas would have his work cut out for him in the 10-11 65cc class. This event did actually accommodate the MX racers as there were more open fields and less woods. Most of the 4-mile course could be seen from spectator hill. Unfortunately for the heavy dust conditions, you could not immediately see who was where on the track till they got within a few hundred yards Jesse Groemm (17) wins the main event. of you. Palmer would immediately take the lead with Tsakanikas giving chase back only five seconds on the 1st lap. Richards getting tangled up on the 1st lap would come through in 4th. By the Mid-Way point, Palmer would break and DNF. Richards would take over the lead and hold it to the checkers. Tsakanikas would finish 2nd with Ryder Sigety securing 3rd. In the Pee Wees an immediate battle ensued between LL Medalist Landon Palmer and local favorite Mason Tsakanikas with Fun Factory Cobra racer Gabe Molinari making a charge in 3rd. The 1-hour format would benefit the regulars while the MX racers would start to fade. Palmer would fade back to 3rd at the half way mark and Rock Hound Racer Tsakanikas would take over the lead. Ian Cabol would take his Husky 50 into 2nd position. A great job by MCI Club and ECEA. B

Tsakanikas (709) takes the Pee Wee checkers.

PRESS RELEASE:

D6 Observed Trials Event May 5-6, 2018

AREAS NEWEST TM DEALER

Early May took us to southern York County to the WRMC and their annual Trials event. Vintage competition was held on Saturday under sunny skies and mild temps with the Modern classes run on Sunday. I couldn’t stay for the Sunday event but I’m imagining that it was held in much less desirable conditions as rain did settle into the area overnight.

Keystone Moto Depot in Lancaster, PA and TM Racing entered into an agreement in February to be the exclusive dealer of TM Motorcycles in South Central and South Eastern PA. TM Motorcycles are gaining popularity in the United States and Keystone Moto Depot see’s the opportunity to offer these motorcycles in our area.

I’ve been to this location in the rain and its mostly downhill and can cause difficult riding conditions. Again, I wasn’t there but the turnout on Sunday was reasonable so I’m guessing either conditions weren’t terrible, or these Trials guys and gals just love to ride. I don’t do many Trials events, so I don’t know the usual suspects but below find some of the top finishers along with a few photos from the weekend. You can see more on the White Rose Motorcycle Club facebook page and on our website at: www.brappmag.com Get more info also at: www.mid-atlantictrials.com and www.whiterosemc.org. Coming up in June at White Rose on June 3 find their Class ‘A’ AMA Professional Hill Climb and on June 8 - 10 – their Super Swap Meet.

www.keystonemotodepot.com

The philosophy that has always distinguished TM is without a doubt the choice of materials, which are of the highest qualities, and the workmanship, even defined by some as “obsessive” not to mention the high performance of the engines used on standard bikes. In many cases superior to those of the most prestigious competitors. This justifies the prices of the TM Motorcycles that appeal to a niche market made up of very demanding customers. You can purchase a standard product with which to compete with high level competition. The staff at Keystone Moto Depot is excited to continue the TM philosophy with the full line of motorcycles that appeal to the motocross and woods rider alike. We have parts as well and the staff at Keystone Moto Depot rides and competes on the weekends. If we can’t keep our customers up and running then we aren’t living up to our promise to them.

You can find out more about the TM Motorcycles at:

MDRA at Doublin Gap Round #3 May 5-6, 2018 By: BrappMag.com

Early Sunday morning I messaged Jeff Yentzer, one of the owners at Doublin Gap MX Park and simply said “you’re still racing, right” and the one-word answer came back, yes. So, into my Dodge Ram I jumped, and I headed towards the track. You see my philosophy is, if you’re there, then I’m there. Spring has been tough here in our neck of the woods. Extreme cold temps and lots of rain had forced earlier cancellations but some how I knew that this race would go on. The rain had started late Saturday night and continued through the day on Sunday and the call was eventually made to shorten it to a one moto format but race they did. I tell you what however, even though the season is just getting started, I saw more smiling faces on this day than I believe I have yet this year. The kids fought through the mud on the little bikes and the parents pulled them through. The staff did the best they could given the circumstances and I believe every one’s goal was just to get through safe and to earn some points. Surprisingly the turnout was pretty darn good considering the conditions. Take a look at some muddy pics here then head to our website to see more. If you survived this day you deserve to get yourself an image to prove it. Also check out the top finishers here then head over to: www.mdramxracing.com to see the rest. B

JimBull TALKS

By: Jim Bull Proverbs – what is a proverb you ask?

From Goggle – a noun, a proverb is a short saying in general use, stating a general truth or piece of advice. Here is a proverb I found from a former motorcycle legend. Anybody can jump a motorcycle. The trouble begins when you try to land it. Evel Knievel I believe as motorcycle riders and racers we are all very familiar with that last proverb from Evel. How about the definition of a proverb, something that states a general truth or piece of advice?

Clint Early would claim the win in 45 plus

I don’t know about all of you, but I certainly could use a little more of that in my life. Unfortunately, many times we as humans must learn things the hard way. Wouldn’t it be cool though if we had a road map, some good advice readily at hand that could help lead us down the right path? Whether it be in racing or life in general, couldn’t we all use a helping hand now and then? Here’s the good news – the Bible is full of Proverbs, matter of fact there is a whole book of Proverbs that contains 31 chapters that were written buy some of the wisest men of their times. Here is what the Bible tells us the Proverbs are for:

Let me share a few of my favorites that have helped me along the way: Proverbs 3: 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 4: 10 Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. Proverb 10: 4 Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. Proverbs 11: 24 One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. Proverbs 17: 12 Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool bent on folly. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. The book of Proverbs contains 31 chapters and is full of great advice for both on and off the track. If you don’t have a Bible you can go online and download the Bible app or go to: biblehub.com I would recommend – no better yet, I challenge you. The month of July is coming up and has 31 days in it, the same number of days as chapters of Proverbs. I’m willing to bet if you can take 15 minutes out of your day, preferably first thing in the morning or right before you go to bed at night and read one chapter a day, that you’ll either learn things you never knew, or will be reminded of ways to help you get through your days. Proverbs - simple free advice designed to get you through life and as always for prayer or more inspiration please contact me on Facebook or Instagram at Jim Bull Talks. B

South Penn Enduro Riders Skip Stoner Memorial – OX BO Harescramble May 19-20, 2018 By: BrappMag.com

A month of rain led up to this running of the Skip Stoner Memorial Ox Bo Harescramble which was a combined ECEA / D6 points paying event hosted by the South Penn Enduro Riders. Some heavy hitters came out to chase the $2500 to win put up by South Penn with a two second gap at the end making a $2000 difference in prize money. Needless to say, Lafferty and Palmer were high fivin’ each other as they ended this day after a 2.5 hour battle. Right behind them we saw Kyle McDonal and Jarrett Mohn battle with McDonal taking third over Mohn with Landon Bruner rounding out the top five with lap times average in the 35 minute range on this 10.5 mile course. Matter of fact close to 600 racers came out to do battle this weekend on the brutal Frackville course that was enhanced by all the rain in the weeks prior. Some were high fivin’ at the end, some were spread out on the ground and some just called it quits early as the last rider off the course in the main was at the 3.5 hour mark. Either way, props to all who pulled up their sleeves and went for it. This race was a true test of endurance and fortitude and I congratulate all who even swung their leg over a bike. Check out some of the top results here and a few images then head over to: www.ecea to see the full results and www.brappmag.com to see lots of muddy pictures. ROUND # 3 - MAMA MX HAPPY RAMBLERS MC

Sundays muddy smiles, Burgess, Nerney, Cornwell and Cornwell

May 12-13, 2018 By: BrappMag.com

As this spring would have it we were either racing in the cold or the wet. Actually, round #2 at Tomahawk held a few weeks back wasn’t too bad but the opener at Budds Creek was cold and this round brought a decent day for the Saturday racing, but oh what a difference a day makes. Fortunately, Mother Nature held off on Saturday and allowed all the classes to get their motos in plus the kick off to the 2018 MAMA Pit Bike Series. But overnight the skies opened up and the rain did come. The crew from Brapp Mag bailed out Saturday afternoon with the hopes of making a return trip for Sundays racing action but that wasn’t in the cards. The crew from Happy and the team from MAMA made every effort possible to pull off the day and around 100 brave racers signed up to play splish and splash around the Happy Ramblers course. Props to all who raced, spectated, worked on the track and helped dig kids out of the mud. I saw some pics and those that raced seemed to be having fun. We won’t talk about the clean up after but hey, that’s all part of it. Check out the class winners here along with some images then head over to: www.mamamx.com to catch the full results not only from this race but rounds one and two then check out: www.brappmag.com to see images from all MAMA events this year to date. Also remember they had a change in scheduling and their next round will go down the weekend of June 2-3 at Budds Creek MX. You can also see their full schedule on the back page of this issue.
