How Do You Dance… when You Can’t Hear the Music? The ballroom was set before me. The Maestro was waiting for all to be seated and quiet. I entered the room with much excitement to meet my dance partner, my King, my Maker of everything. I charged across the floor excited to bow down before Him, but then I stumbled. Falling flat on my face, humiliated, and ashamed I tried to lift myself up. Frustrated, I tried to untangle the torn garments that clothed me. Dusting off my knee I tried to stand on my own strength in hopes to show everyone that it was nothing but a little bruise. Yet, as I was dusting off my knees looking down noticed the deep gash that left me bloodied and limping towards my Savior. My legs trembled so badly I fell once more. The agony from this fall kept me fastened to the ground….unable to lift myself up this time. In horror I looked across the room as onlookers were in disgust pointing fingers. “How could she have fallen so hard”? Covering my face in shame, I crawled to my Master’s feet desperate and feeling defeated. Crying to my King, “I can’t get up, the pain is too great”. As I looked up for just a brief moment I noticed Him looking at me. Ashamed, I turned my head away in an effort to escape rejection I might face. Suddenly, I felt this tender brush against my cheek ushering me to look up once more. Turning my eyes towards my King, I was exposed. He saw every bruise, bump, and bloodstained tear in my soul. He led me to gaze at the wounds over the years, the scars left as reminders of what He had already brought me through. He then turned opening his hands to expose the nail scarred marks and said, “My daughter arise, put your hand in mine.” And He lifted me up off the ground within moments He was balancing me as we sashayed across the dance floor with one waltzing stride at a time. My legs became sturdier with arms swaying freely to the melody of MERCY; He supported me. The sting of injuries began to fade as I focused on the dance. We then tangoed to another floor to the tune of TRUTH, which led us straight into a foxtrot of FELLOWSHIP. He spun me round and round like a ballerina into BELIEF. My Savior said, “You will no longer do the rumba of regret”. He lullabied me into a desire to live as He quickly let go for a brief moment. Taking my hand once more he drew me close with His adoration as we spun some more. Holding hands we jitter-bugged all the way to Jesus’s favorite jingle, “JESUS LOVES ME…This I know”. The Holy Spirit joined in as the three of us trotted to the tempo of travail keeping me steadfast. I didn’t want the dance to end. The Master had guided me across the tightrope of turmoil. He’d shown me the pirouettes of PURPOSE and a reason to keep in rhythm with the RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD. The sound of silence tried to stop my feet from dancing, but he urged me to dance even when I couldn’t hear the music. ©2013 Brenda A. Graff Then the young woman will rejoice with dancing, while young and old men rejoice together. I will turn their mourning into joy, give them consolation, and bring happiness out of grief. -Jeremiah 31:13

HE SO LOVED… One of the first verses I had ever learned in the Bible was: John 3:16 - For God loved the world in this way. He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. This verse has been repeatedly mentioned throughout decades on the basis of salvation teachings, and trying to comprehend God’s love. Yet with the history of this verse so widely spread throughout our land, we still somehow manage to misunderstand or not get at all the concept of God’s love. I know I am still learning how much God loves me. Yet, what is there to learn? He simply loved us so! As I was speaking with my husband, Kirby the other night he asked me why God would have to send his son to die on the cross and suffer for our sins. Why did he create man if he knew we were going to mess up? And why did there have to be much suffering? Whew! I knew that I better get the answers right if I were to answer at all. It was a true test of not only my head knowledge of scripture, but what did I think were the answers, but most importantly, what was the truth of the matter according to God? I simply responded first with, “You know God was regretful for creating mankind … Genesis 6:6 The LORD regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. It reminds me of how sometimes we have parents that unfortunately grieve over the wickedness of a child birthed, and raised in a loving home. There are the thoughts of… Where did I go wrong? How could this have happened? What can I do to fix it now? We love our child (SO) much we go to the moon and back for them. If there were a way to solve the issue, we would do whatever it would take. Even, if it meant taking a beating for them, or laying down our lives. Wouldn’t you?” Yet, the question still stands…If God knew we were going to be so sinful then why did he create us? I have to picture this answer in light of the fact that we are created in his image according to: Genesis 1:26–27 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.” 26

5

So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female. 27

I believe this image also includes his character traits, i.e. emotions. When individuals set out to have a child they know that their child is going to act up in some fashion one way or another, at least those living in the reality of our imperfect world do. Of, course there are those that truly believe they will raise the epitome of perfection, which sorry to disappoint you folks, but not in this lifetime, not ever. This knowledge of our child possibly going wayward doesn’t keep us from conception. We look forward to the glory and experience of birth, stepping stones, building blocks, and hearing those precious words, “Momma or Da Da”. The desire of raising a child far out-weigh the knowledge that they could futuristically fall. The desire to love and be loved is stronger than the fear of rejection and will prompt some to desperately try to conceive. If everyone refused to procreate on the simple fact that mankind is messed up, then our world would be nothing but an empty, lifeless, uneventful, lonely, dark place. We wouldn’t have the Mozarts, Benjamin Franklins, Abraham Lincolns, Apostle Pauls, King Davids, Gideons, Ruths, Abigails, or Sarahs. Our world would have never experienced the tears and triumphs or expression of God’s love without the act of sin. How could he prove his love or send his Son to lay down his life for us, if there was no reason to sacrifice? God simply allowed the free will of man, which became sin so he could demonstrate the utmost act of love. John 15:13 No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends. His plans allowed for a rebellious nature to occur, simply on the basis that he has given free will. Would you as a parent, want your child to be forced to say, “I love you”, knowing they can’t stand the very sight of you? Would you want to be married to someone who demanded your love and respect? No! Not in the least…therefore, God doesn’t force us to love him. Yet, he loves us (SO) much that he desires for us to be with him always. This is where the eternity speaks volumes compared to the temporary messed up selves we have here on earth. He loves us (SO) much HE gave HIS only begotten SON to die on the cross for our sins (so that we would hopefully, desire to believe and spend eternity with him, our ABBA FATHER, CREATOR, and LOVER of our SOULS). I researched the meaning of the word (SO) to find the significance in the scripture. This is the definition according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

6

1so adverb: to a great degree, very or extremely, without any doubt, most certainly, indeed, most decidedly, surely My thoughts and many others: He (SO) measurelessly LOVED us!) 2so conjunction: for that reason: and therefore, used to say the reason for something The reason! Because he LOVED us (SO) much! 3so adjective: agreeing with actual facts, conforming with actual facts, true It is what it is! It’s factual! Oh how he LOVES us (SO)! There are words associated with the word (SO) that cannot even begin to touch the surface of God’s vast perfect and unconditional love for us all! Synonyms Accurate, bang on [chiefly British], dead-on, exact, good, on-target, precise, proper, right, correct, spot-on, true, veracious, legitimate, valid, errorless, faultless, flawless, impeccable, inerrant, infallible I felt there was no scholar, no dictionary, no language that can describe what we cannot seem to comprehend, that infallible love God has for us. However, when I looked up the Hebrew and Greek meanings of (SO) it only confirmed what I already was beginning to unwrap in my mind, and that is that His love could only be shown sacrificially to a world dying in sin. Otherwise, we would never know the magnitude of His love for us. How could we appreciate the love of another without the comprehension of how unlovable we are at times? If we were perfect and self-reliant, then we would have no need for love. We would feel so infallible that through loving ourselves, it would be enough. Unfortunately, there are the New Agers, and a generation of folk who bask in their own glow to this day, and it’s only getting worse. These translations below clearly point out a cause and effect of the word (SO). Strong’s Hebrew Lexicon: ‘amen aw-mane’; sure; abstract, faithfulness; adverb, truly:--Amen, so be it, truth. Do you see that? Because God is faithful! Amen! Truth! IT IS (SO)! Strong’s Greek Lexicon: Apokatallasso ap-ok-at-al-las’-so; to reconcile fully

7

And there it is!!!!! The redemption! The effect of His love! Because he loved us (SO)! He reconciled our wrongs through his only beloved Son! He didn’t leave one stone unturned, not one crevice uncovered. The blood was shed and sacrificed to reconcile us fully because He loves us (SO)! Galatians 2:20 - and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Ephesians 5:2 - And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. Psalms 107:2 - Let the redeemed of the LORD say [so], whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy Let the redeemed say (SO)! “Yes, Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me (SO)!” -B. Graff – 2014

God said, “You don’t have to worry about love. As long as I’m existing, you will be loved.”

I Want to Know

Romans 15:13

What would it be like to know every day? That every step you took was in your Father’s way? To understand and comprehend the depth of His love To know He’s always with us not just above. What would it sound like when peace would flood my soul? To know that every circumstance my Father has control? Would it taste like ice-cream on a hot summer’s day? Soothing and refreshing as it melts the heat away? What would it feel like to fall into His arms? To sleep in peace and never feel alarmed. The waters fall and flood my soul daring to believe And anxious to know… I want to know I want so to believe. -Brenda Graff

From Brokenness to Thanksgiving -Nancy McDade

Early this morning as I was sitting in the front room of our house, reading my devotion, my eight year old son came in and said with excitement, “What time are we headed to Maw Maw and Paw Paw's house?" His little eyes sparkled as the long awaited day had finally arrived, the trip to the grandparents’ house for Thanksgiving! The innocence and sheer joy he exhibited just made me want to grab him and hug him. He has looked forward to this for weeks now. As I pondered my son's excitement it made me stop and think: Does it warm God's heart too when He sees His children get excited about things? As a parent, I think we all enjoy seeing our children happy. We love to watch their faces on their birthday as they open gifts in excitement. We love to see them jump for joy at winning a baseball game. When I stop and think that, God loves us even more than a parent loves a child, my unmistakable conclusion is "yes" God absolutely loves to see His children happy and excited about life. Unfortunately, many times, instead of being excited, we find ourselves complaining: "Who made this mess in the kitchen? Who tracked mud everywhere? Why are you always so loud?" About 3 years ago, I received a medical report that was very uncertain. Honestly, I did not know, based on the report, just how many days I had left here. It was heart breaking for me to think of leaving my 2 little boys, motherless, in this big, not so friendly world. I spent many days crying out to my Father in despair. It was a very dark, fearful, and lonely time in my life. A time of much uncertainty. A time of brokenness. As a parent, it breaks my heart sometimes when my children are sad. Just a week ago, we had to euthanize our 13 year old dog, LB, because he became very sick, and was suffering. As my husband explained to our four year old son that "this would be the last time we see our friend, LB," tears filled his little eyes as the reality hit him that we were losing our dog that day. As a mom, the hurt that I saw in my son, made me cry. It broke my heart to see him broken.

13

I think it breaks God's heart too to see us broken. But, just as we had no choice with our dog, God sometimes has no choice with us. He allows brokenness to bring about healing. Although it was sad putting our dog down, it was what was best for him. Three years ago, I was broken. I was at a place of total despair. I feared the possibilities that lay before me. I feared the reality that I may not have tomorrow to enjoy my family. The little things like hearing my boys laugh and giggle, sharing a meal, or reading them a bedtime story. Yes, I was completely broken. But, praise God, my Father did not leave me there. He has allowed me to stay here and I am so grateful. When I feel myself slipping into an attitude of ingratitude, my Heavenly Father whispers: "remember I kept you here." Oh Hallelujah, what a great God we serve!! Today, I am rejoicing because I get to spend Thanksgiving with the people that I love. That may not sound so special, but when you think you may be leaving the ones you love, believe me, it is special. I feel like a kid in a candy store! Remember, let's give thanks for the little things. Let's love the folks we love and not hold back. I think it breaks God's heart too to see us broken. But, just as we had no choice with our dog, God sometimes has no choice with us. He allows brokenness to bring about healing. Although it was sad putting our dog down, it was what was best for him. Jesus’ Broken Heart -Justin Petrick Why do we blame God for hurts and pains? Why is it easy for us to derive a perverted sense of peace when something happens to us that causes us hurt and pain, by saying that God is the author of it or even that He has ‘allowed’ it? When we look back at God’s original design, the Garden of Eden, it is perfection. The Garden of Eden, also the place of a perfect relationship with God, was not only a garden of perfect provision, but physical, emotional, and mental stability, or peace. Why would we think that God deviated from this plan of His, or revert to a plan B when man chose to sin rather than stay in perfect communion with Him? I don’t think He did. And being that God’s original design was perfection, I do not believe that God orchestrates pain and hurt for us to experience, or to grow and mature us. Let us look at this Biblically: Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV): For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Harm is emotional, mental, or physical distress, so to speak. God would never put you into a position to harm you mentally, physically, or emotionally. It is not His original plan of perfect love. ַ and means “bad, malignant, unpleasant, The Hebrew word for ‘harm’, is ‘ra`’ (‫)ער‬, displeasing, worse than, sad, unhappy, hurtful, wicked, misery, calamity, distress, adversity, injury, wrong, etc.” To many of us, these characteristics fit experiences that we believe God orchestrated or allowed to happen. But what is interesting, is that this word “harm” comes from the root word ‘ra`a`’ (‫)רַ רער‬, which means “evil”. Evil is the absence of a loving God. It is the absence of love; a void of love. There is not hurt and pain in God’s love nor in His plan for you. It is not in His nature. He is not the author of evil. He is the restorer. He is the rescuer, the shelter, the rock. He builds up what has been broken down. The things in our life that bring us hurt and pain are characterized by the plan of Satan, not God: John 10:10 (NIV): The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Satan comes to steal health, marriages, families, jobs, security, stability, etc. He wants you to doubt God, doubt the power and design of His love for you and 16

your life. He wants to steal the Truth and the Life, the Word, from your heart. In fact, he wants to speak lies into you about God’s heart. Another reason we know God does not orchestrate hurts and pains, is because He is moved by our hurts and pains, or infirmities. Hebrews 4:15 (KJV): For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. God is moved by how you feel. When you feel hurt, manipulated, lied to, cheated on, let down, bailed on, forgotten, etc., it moves the heart of God! He feels your pain! In fact, God is so moved by our iniquities that it is what killed the body of Jesus. Jesus died of a broken heart. One of the greatest verses that gives us physiological, medical insight into the death of Jesus is John 19:34: John 19:34 (KJV): “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” When you think about someone being stabbed, one would expect to only see blood come out similar to a deep cut, just more of it. John obviously thought it was important to mention that not only blood flowed from when the solider speared Jesus, but water as well. And he was correct. This small piece of information is very important. We know that when blood sits, the red blood cells naturally separate from the plasma which looks like water, giving the appearance of blood and water flowing as John stated. So, where was this blood and water able to sit? The heart, which is what the solider punctured when he speared Jesus. There is a membrane that surrounds the heart called the pericardial sac. When a heart ruptures, blood leaks from the heart and fills the pericardial sac and while it sits, blood will separate from the plasma. Jesus did not die of asphyxiation, but of a broken heart when He took the sins and sickness of the entire world on Him (John 1:29). Isaiah 53:4 (KJV): Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. This is how much Jesus loves you, to willingly take on so much sin and pain that it literally breaks His heart. This is why he is moved by the feelings of your infirmities. He bore what you are going through today, when He was crucified on the cross. This is the nature and love of Jesus Christ. He has literally sacrificed His body and 17

heart that we might have life with Him for eternity. This is the magnitude of His love, and it blows my mind when I really think about it, about how much pain and agony is in the world that was placed in Him, all for the simple reason of Him justifying us through this selfless act of love that we might be conquerors over everything that caused Him to die of a broken heart. This is how much He loves YOU. God is not the one that orchestrates pain and hurt. He is the one that gives you the ability to overcome them, living life in His fullness and joy (Psalm 16:11).

A Sticky Situation It’s Christmastime! My thinking is directed to the nativity scenes I’ve placed on my mantel and the birth of our savior. I love to step out to glance at the decorations that have already been displayed while listening to the carols on the radio. This day when I stepped out on the way to mail the grandkids’ pictures, the crispness of the air hit my face. As I ducked to avoid the blast, I noticed something on my porch. Bending down to clear it off, I saw there was writing on the little round piece of sticky paper. “Very Good” it said. Immediately, I knew what had happened. As my little granddaughter had come in, her sticker of the day had fallen off her arm. But, because my mind was on my savior’s birth that day, it raced to God’s declaration of His creation of mankind. “Very Good.” Yes, Lord, it is very good.

Genesis 1:31-

MOMS ARE LEADERS 1. Moms need a plan Every leader needs a plan. Moms can experience dramatic improvements when they take the time to write out a simple personal plan. When prepared with a plan for the future, leader moms begin to see the work they’re doing in perspective to all the junk and chaos around them. And implementing the plan allows them to know themselves so they can better lead themselves. When leader moms develop a clear plan for life and work (including parenting), they find more margin, greater fulfillment, better relationships, and higher productivity. 2. Me time But it’s not what you’re thinking! We’re not talking about pedicures or massages – although those are awesome! Me time is time spent relaxing, reflecting, and recharging. It could be time spent reading, writing, or working out. Leaders cannot lead effectively when they’re running on empty. So time spent on a hobby, cooking, or even a walk outside refills the soul and brings new perspective. 3. Support Every leader needs help. Feedback and support from other moms helps you see that you are not alone and that many moms experience similar challenges. Experienced moms and grandmothers offer wisdom. Similarly, you have experience from which you can encourage younger moms. This one can be tough because we struggle with vulnerability. Too often we want to show the world how good we’ve got it, but to really learn from someone who has been where you are, you need to be honest and open about life—even with all the ugly bits. Soon your children and grandchildren will be grown. When you’re prepared, you make the most of the time with them – leading the next generation to live to their fullest potential. So today, tell one mom – You are an amazing leader! He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. -Ecclesiastes 3:11

My husband and I took almost a 3,500 mile road trip. We went as far north as Chicago before heading east to Charleston, and then, making the Gulf Coast loop back to Houston. Although the arch in St. Louis, the skyline of Chicago and the wrought iron work in Savannah were beautiful, they could not compare to the magnificent splendor of God’s handiwork! The incredible fall colors against the backdrop of mountains were spectacular! Once again, through His creation, I was reminded of His greatness, excellence and perfection. And yet at the same time, the God who thought to paint the fall leaves vivid shades of scarlet, red, orange and yellow, is the same God who created each of us individually; knows us individually; loves us individually; and died for us individually - so we might have eternal life with Him! What an awesome God we serve!

Chris Gomez is a Contemporary Christian artist called to change lives through music and testimony. He is first a vessel for God and second a musician. Chris is a 19 year front man of popular rock cover bands. After a spiritual revelation, Gomez turned his life around, both spiritually and musically. For his new group’s debut, he said, his goal wasn’t to melt faces anymore. It was to save souls. Chris was a three time award winner of 'Chattanooga's Entertainer of the Year' by the Chattanoogan.com music editor. Invited to perform three times in the Chattanooga All Star Band at the annual Riverbend Festival. His group was chosen the Chattanooga Times Free Press Newspaper 'Cover Band of the Year'. His group was also a three time award winner of 'Chattanooga's Party Band of the Year' by the Chattanoogan.com music editor. Despite the success in the Southeastern United States, Chris felt he’d found himself in an emotional abyss well below rock bottom in June of 2013. Estranged from his wife and still engaged in the kind of raucous behavior expected of a rock musician, he pleaded his life to God in an all-night rage of crying in humility. First with curses and later with heartfelt prayers, he told God he would do anything he wanted to just take the pain and conviction out of his heart. According to Chris, “I yelled at God ‘look at the voice and guitar skills you gave me! Send me out into the world to bring lives to you! I don’t care! I’ll do anything! Just please, take this pain and conviction out of my heart!” When he woke up the next morning, he felt a sense of conviction and began making calls. His first was to his wife to ask if she was interested in reconciliation — she was — and the rest to his bandmates and venue owners explaining that he was severing ties with the club scene. This was the second time Chris had found his life in the “belly of the whale”. He was heavily addicted to hard street drugs from 2001-2003. He lost everything he owned through pawn shops, drug deals, and foreclosures. Chris will tell you, “When I was sick and tired of being sick and tired, I walked away from hard drugs in 2003 and never looked back.” Since then Chris has married the love of his life, Michelle, and returned to college to graduate as a Registered Nurse. Since then, Chris has found a renewed sense of purpose and musical inspiration. He states, “I haven’t written these songs, God has written them through me. I am just his vessel here on Earth. I pray every day that he will use me for his glory as I feel he has huge plans for me. I am called to change lives through music, ministry and testimony. This is my purpose.”

Taking Hold of the Power of Christ’s Blood (Extended version from November issue of Food For Soul Magazine)

-By Justin Petrick The power of the blood. We as Christians have heard that term many times, but have we ever stopped to think what it truly means? Have we stopped to think, how is the blood of Jesus powerful? Rather than it being something that we ignorantly acknowledge because it sounds spiritual (which I have done as much as anybody), how can it be something that we literally live out every day? How can we apply the power of His perfect blood in everyday life? For starters, we need to know what the blood of Christ has actually done. Romans 5:11 (KJV): And not only [so], but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. There are two words for atonement used in God’s Word. There is an Old Testament or Hebrew word, “kippur” (‫ )רֻּפִּע‬from the root word, “kaphar” (‫)רפַע‬, and means “to cover”. This word is used in the context of the Old Testament, when the blood of animals only covered sins for a period of time and had to be done annually (Hebrews 10:1-4). ). In fact, In Hebrews 10:3 it states that these type of animal sacrifices were an annual reminder of sin. This was because sin was only covered for a period of time, then exposed.

In contrast, the New Testament uses the Greek word, “katallagē” (καταλλαγή), and means “to exchange”. In Hebrews 9:11-14 we see that the superior sacrifice of Jesus Christ did much more than the covering of the animal sacrifices, in that He exchanged our sins for His righteousness. We see this in 2 Corinthians: 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV): God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. As far as God is concerned, your sins do not exist (Hebrews 8:12, Colossians 2:13-14). This is shown in Romans: Romans 4:6-8 (NIV) just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: (7) “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. (8) “BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.” You might be thinking, “Well it says you have to be blessed?” You have been blessed. You have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3)! This includes God not remembering your sins or holding them against you (taking them into account, or imputing them onto you) because to Him, they do not exist. 26

When it comes to our sin, we must remember that it is only Christ’s blood that has the power to cleanse us of a guilty conscience (Hebrews 9:14, 10:19-22). Selfcondemnation will not pay the price for sin nor will the belief that God holds sins against you set you free. A guilty conscience stems from attempting to be righteous in your own works as opposed to receiving righteousness because of the finished works of Jesus. A guilty conscious keeps you a slave to sin (Romans 6:20-22). In Revelation 12, we see that another name for Satan is the Accuser. Specifically, Satan uses the Law to accuse us. This is another discussion in and of itself, but we see it in Colossians. Colossians 2:13-15 (KJV): And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; (14) Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (15) And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. The “hand writing of ordinances” is referring to the 10 Commandments, or the Law, written by the finder of God (Exodus 31:18), and has been nailed to the cross with Christ making it obsolete (Hebrews 8:13). This is where the power of the blood of Christ comes in. Satan uses the Law or your sin to accuse you and condemn you, to give you a guilty conscience or make you feel that you are not worthy to be loved by God or to receive His love.

He will accuse you and make you feel like you are not worthy to be in His presence or to seek Him. Nothing is further from the truth. It is precisely in these times that God desires you to use His grace to enter into His presence and claim victory over the bondages in your life. And He does this through the power of the blood of Jesus. Christ’s blood answers for every accusation the kingdom of darkness accuses you with. Whenever you feel condemned or guilty, identify it as a lie from the Accuser and remember that you are the righteousness of God through Christ by the power of His Blood.

petrickministries.com Petrick Ministries exists to proclaim the Gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24), the perfect and complete works of Jesus Christ, that establishes individuals in to their true identity in Christ setting them free to experience the perfect love that God has intended for them. Our vision is to partner with churches and ministries to proclaim the Gospel of grace, empowering individuals to live intimately in Christ. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. -Acts 20:24

Why Drink? I often take my dogs to the park where they are able to run free and play with others of their species. It can get pretty rowdy at times. There are always plenty to choose from. Unlike most dogs, mine would rather chase squirrels then a ball. Occasionally, they will spot one and the grueling chase is on. This of course, can lead to some pretty thirsty pups. However, the problem is that one of mine, Dixie, refuses to drink water from the doggy fountain that all the dogs share. She will run in the sizzling heat of summer with a grotesque mound of foam around her mouth displaying what looks to be a rabid dog. I can call her, nudge her, push her to the fountain, but she literally will fight me...pulling away. Doesn’t she understand that she can get some relief from the heat, if she would just succumb to the water fountain? I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t know if she thinks she is such a princess that she need not to share, or is she a germ-a-phobic like me. Does the water taste bad? Is she afraid of water? I don’t know, but I often have to force feed her bottled water to keep her hydrated. I keep thinking of the old saying ‘you can lead a horse to water, but ya’ can’t make them drink’. How often is this true in our spiritual life? We are being wooed, ushered in, invited, and sometimes dragged to the throne of Christ by loved ones, perhaps our children, or even our spouses...yet some refuse to truly ingest the healing waters of the living fountain. We war within ourselves and others, avoiding the cleansing hope of freedom with drinking at the everlasting fount (Jesus Christ). You can be baptized a hundred times, say prayer over every meal you consume, give away all your wealth to the poor, sit in a church pew every time the doors are open, but it will not bring you to the emptying of your soul. It will not cleanse the daily garbage that forms in our minds, and hearts in a society of immorality. Before you know it without the often cleansing of God’s word, and renewing of your mind, you are rabid with thoughts of hate, dishonor, self-pity, greed, prejudice, insecurity, complacency, and pride (which can also be-the thinking too much of ‘what’s wrong with me?’ syndrome or false humility) never growing spiritually or using what time is given to live out God’s purpose due to living solely on emotions. 28

You can get so stuck in a negative rut, that not only do folks see a rabid behavior, but the very words that spew out of someone’s mouth of this spiritual mentality is extremely venomous. Its toxic talk that creates dissension, or constant complaining, never finding anything good in any situation. It gets old hearing it chronically. It causes one to back away. Just like the folks who were scared to approach my precious, harmless Dixie, her appearance of foam around her mouth brought negative feelings and fear on the very ones she wanted to be petted and loved by. When folk start running the opposite direction of you, it can most certainly cause additional insecurity. When this happens, you might want to check your speech dialogue button and flip the channel from the constant negative, critical, ill words to something a little lighter on the brighter side. You might find yourself so surrounded by folks you can’t get a word in edge-wise, it’s a good feeling to be loved like that. The word “rabid” in Hebrew: lahahh law-hah' -means to burn, (figuratively, insane); also (from the exhaustion of frenzy) to languish:--faint, mad. Staying in a constant state of frenzy is exhausting! You can’t move in the path God wants you to go, if you refuse to trust him. We cannot trust Him if we don’t know Him. And to know Him, is to know His word, and when you know His word, you know that.... to know Him... is to love Him and you can’t help but crave more of Him. It's like that bag of potato chips, one just won't do, and you’ll want to eat the whole thing! Nothing in this world can ever compare to the filling of His living waters. There is nothing that can quench a soul thirst, not money, not relationships, not titles, friends, material things, children, spouses, power, not even ministry. The only one who can fill a thirsty soul, is Jesus Christ (the living water). The water that flows continually. Grab a big Gulp cup and drink it up, there's no limit on refills! Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ I’m not saying there won’t be times when we aren’t afraid, oh my goodness there were many incidences in the Bible when mighty men and women of God were used that walked through many circumstances in doubt and fear, but they didn’t

29

stay there. Gideon for example, had asked God for a sign three times about the mission God was sending him on because he was so repressed with fear. Judges 6:11-18 The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” 13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” 14 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” 15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” 16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” 17 Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me. 18 Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you.” And the Lord said, “I will wait until you return.” We can still choose to drink from the living fountain while dealing with a world of flooding destruction. We don’t have to allow the throngs of mass massacres, FaceBookers posting political hatred, and YouTube, Twitter, and media vengeance seekers to turn our hearts cold and live rabidly. We can still have peace in the midst of the storms in this life. The only way to do that is to keep our eyes on Jesus. There is nothing in this world that will bring peace, not the perfect president, mayor, government, nor police. We have to learn to walk in peace, be in peace, speak peacefully, and quiet our souls with daily doses of living waters. That is food for the soul. –Brenda Graff John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Thyme is an expectorant, which makes coughs more productive. Steep 2 tsp fresh or dried thyme in cup of boiling-hot water for 10 minutes, let cool and drink. Oregano is used for respiratory tract disorders such as coughs, asthma, croup, and bronchitis. Basil boosts the immune system. It has antibacterial properties. When applied to the skin or surfaces, basil fights back against bacteria and so much more. Oil of basil herb has also been found to have anti-infective functions by inhibiting many pathogenic bacteria like Staphylococcus, Enterococci, Shigella, and Pseudomonas. Basil tea helps relieve nausea and is thought to have mild anti-septic functions. Garlic boosts immune system, which help to ward off viruses like flu, rhinovirus, and the common cold. Even if you get sick, you will recover more quickly. Eating one raw garlic clove a day is plenty. Suck on lemon wedge a brief moment to rid residual garlic breath or taste. Parsley helps boost the immune system. This tiny-leaf plant is rich with chlorophyll, vitamin A, B, C, and K, folate and iron. It has high beneficial mineral contents like calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, vanadium, and zinc. It can help fight against allergies, and auto-immune and persistent inflammatory disorders. Licorice root contains the compound, glycyrrhizin that has been found to have potent antiviral effects against serious diseases, such as HIV and SARS, and a number of studies have found that licoriceroot extracts can fight off the flu, including strains of the avian flu virus. It has also been used as an expectorant. The extract of elderberries has been tested repeatedly and found to shorten the duration of symptoms by as much as 4 days, and the extract has been found effective at fighting up to 10 strains of flu virus. Nearly all of the scientific studies conducted on elderberry have used a commercial product called Sambucol, which is available as a liquid supplement from a number of different companies.

Soul Adhesions By: Nancy McDade Have you ever watched a movie in which men are sitting around comparing scars? I can recall a scene from the old "Jaws" movie in which the fishermen were on a boat around a table comparing scars and sharing their war stories. Usually people can easily recall the exact event that caused a scar. For me, I have about a six inch scar on my upper abdomen. This scar tells the story of when I had two emergency surgeries for a ruptured appendix, gangrenous gallbladder, and an ischemic bowel all within three days. This scar is a reminder of the healing power of God who kept me alive when the odds were not in my favor. While external scars are obvious, what about the scars that we cannot see, the internal scars? These are the scars that are not so apparent to those around us. These are the deep-rooted, hidden, dark places inside. These are the scars that we may not even know are there. We know that something inside hurts but we don’t know why it does, because we cannot see it. Adhesions work that way. An adhesion is when a scar occurs internally and causes an abnormal union between membranes. This causes tissue to connect to other tissue where it’s not supposed to connect. Although adhesions form a protective barrier around damaged tissue, they also render the tissue inflexible. Can you imagine trying to bend your knee and having it bound by a connection to another tissue that forces it not to bend? This lack of flexibility leads to pain and dysfunction. Much like the "immobile knee" life events can cause internal scars or what I will call "soul adhesions." These events can paralyze us if left alone and not dealt with. Maybe this was neglect or abandonment as a small child, loss of a loved one, divorce, physical or verbal abuse, addiction, lack of encouragement, poverty or being the child who was always picked on. No matter what the cause, soul adhesions are caused by injury. As a result, we form protective barriers. If we are not careful the adhesions or barriers can prevent us from being what God has called us to be. We can become crippled by fear, anger, resentment, jealousy or guilt.

Referenced Bible verses in magazine used versions: KSJ, NIV, NKJV, ESV, HCSB

36

The thing that caused injury to our soul can render us helpless, hopeless, and dysfunctional. We can become rigid and inflexible. Although the tissue has a strong barrier around the damaged part, it becomes so hardened that it cannot function properly. Perhaps we all have put up barriers around our hearts because of past injuries. We think the barrier will protect us but the end result is crippling. We may not even do it on purpose, but it is still there. No matter if the barrier that holds the soul captive is fear, anger, addiction, hopelessness or guilt, God can remove it. Matter of fact, He is the "Great Physician." The first part in healing an internal scar is to recognize that it is there. Sometimes we can "sweep things under the rug" in hopes that it will disappear. Unfortunately when we lift the rug, the trash is still there. If we ask God, He will "lift the rug "and sweep out the trash. He knows the scars are there, why not let Him heal them? Just as a surgeon can remove adhesions, God can remove "soul adhesions." He does not want us bound by internal scars. The Bible says in, Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek, he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to them that are bound." Now that’s something to get excited about. I want to experience every single moment of joy that God has for me. Jesus suffered way too much for me to be bound up and captive. Today ask Him to reveal the internal scars in your life and to set you free. He is ready, willing and more than able to remove the "soul adhesions" in your life.

Who’s Got Your Back? -Brenda Graff Sunday eve, Mother’s Day, I was basically forced into watching a movie that I had no interest in. How may you ask? I was exhausted after a very long morning, and decided to plant myself on the sofa. An area usually unknown by my presence as I am usually on the go most of the time. I rarely spend time in the living room. If I’m not in my kitchen or at desk working, I’m driving somewhere. Not today, I vowed. I was not going to move once I got there. I even had Hubby bring in my snuggly, and pillow…just in case I dropped into a coma of sweet dreams. However, as I am laying there, my husband, and two of my boys had formed a consensus against my wishes to watch a chick flick, and not even a romantic one at that…just one of those feel good ones. After all, it was supposed to be the day of which a mom had the right to choose whatever she wants right? They put in “The Hobbit” the prequel to “Lord of the Rings”. Now I realize this movie series has been famous and popular for years. There are seriously dedicated Hobbit fans! However, this type of movie just isn’t my sort of crave. It’s full of freaky looking trolls, dwarfs, goblins, and faces that looked more like a grotesquely marred armpit, then ugliestcreatures creatures I’ve seen. Then thanany anyof of the ugliest I’ve seen. there is this horrible dragon with really bad dental issues. Ugh...the sights and sounds almost caused me to go hibernate in the bedroom, but I couldn’t budge. Too tired. I tried to doze off in between the raging maniac battles, and demonic sounds of chaos of good versus evil, but it wasn’t happening. Instead, I became mesmerized at a scenario that seriously caught my attention. No, it captivated me! There is a scene in the beginning of the movie where a father is fighting off a dragon named, Smaug. Who was considered to be a "great" fire drake of the Third Age, considered to be the last "great" dragon to exist in Middle Earth. Smaug was furious as he swarmed back and forth over the village breathing fire, destroying, maiming, and killing everything in its path. "My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail is a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!" —The Hobbit, Inside Information Laketown proceeds to destroy the city for their part in aiding the The scene: Smaug, after reaching Lake-town, Dwarves. Bard, the father of Bain… having escaped imprisonment from the Master of Laketown, climbs atop the belltower and tries to shoot Smaug with arrows, though each attempt fails, harmlessly bouncing off Smaug's armor. Eventually, Bain, Bard's son, arrives to aid his father with a Black Arrow. Unfortunately, as Smaug flies over, he claws at the tower. With the tower now being half-destroyed, Bard is forced to make a makeshift crossbow using a rope that held a bell, some pieces of broken wood, and use his son, Bain as a stand.

Now picture this, the dragon is now viciously aware that the son is there, a precious commodity to the father, and wants to destroy him. He not only breaths out fire at this point, but wickedly proclaims his attack. Bain is trembling in fear, but still standing by his father. Smaug lands, and looks towards Bard, sneering at his attempts to stop him. The father braces himself on this broken tower positioning his son, with Bain facing him. He balances the arrow across his son’s shoulder instructing him to be still. Bain’s back is to the dragon approaching, and becoming more threatening. Bain keeps looking back as he can feel the heat of fire approaching. Father using hand gesture, begs his son...“Keep looking at me, stay focused on me”. “Be still!” The son would start to look back and the father would remind him, “Look at me”. Bard notches the arrow, while Smaug charges him and his son. Bard fires his arrow, which hits Smaug straight in the chest on his weak spot. The dragon stumbles, knocking Bard and Bain off their perch, before flying back up. Clawing and biting at the sky, his internal glow fades as he dies in mid-air. Smaug's body, upon falling to the water, lands on Laketown's corrupt master, killing him.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the movie at that point. What really got me, is that we live in a world with a real demonic presence. This isn’t fairy tale. That breathing dragon in the movie is no different than the one that seeks whom he may devour on this earth. Think about this. As believers in Christ, we often find ourselves having to fight off the Smaug’s, trolls, and goblins. Some are uglier than the other. Then there are some that are so beautiful, you can easily be deceived if not grounded in God's word, or walking with the leading of the Holy Spirit. Yet, either way they all come from the same family of demonic power…Satan! He and his posse fight hard to take down the villagers of hope. He wants to deceive the dedicated, tear down the true. He wants to do whatever it takes to keep you trembling in fear and disbelief. Yet, our Father (Abba) is asking us to keep our eyes on Him. I can hear Him now saying. “Stay focused, don’t look behind you fearing the attack”, “I GOT YOUR BACK”! “Be still and know that I AM GOD!” (Psalm 46:10) He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deut 31:6 I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm16:8 What a beautiful revelation to think of a father, but not just any father standing there telling their child…don’t move, don’t look back… “Trust ME”… “Don’t let the ugly threats take your focus off of ME. I will take the enemy down, just watch me”. Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Satan has especially waged war on women beginning with (EVE) and the rest of her offspring (which means anyone living) of those who hold true to their testimony of Christ. But his time is coming! Just know that in the realm of the unseen there are angels battling it out right now, and a Father who is urging us to stand still and secure ourselves in Him. Whose got your back? Our Abba Father, El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty), Jehovah Shammah (The Lord is there), Jehovah Jireh (The Lord will provide), Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord our righteousness), Jehova Shalom (The Lord is PEACE). Revelation 12:17 (NIV) Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring— those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus. Revelation 20:2 (NIV) He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics By Francis Scott Key - (1814) Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the Twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars Thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched Were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night That our flag was still there. Oh, say does that Star - Spangled Banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore, dimly seen Through the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host In dread silence reposes. What is that which the breeze, O’er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long May it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore? That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more! Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the Star - Spangled Banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! Oh! Thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, May the heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made And preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the Star - Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! 43

JUST BREAD Media is flooded with news of the economy. There isn’t a day without commentaries on soaring prices. Our family had been without cable for some time due to rising cost. This means, no television at all. My kids had fits at first, unable to stare into the almighty screen of distraction. My spouse developed right hand atrophy not exercising remote. We had videos, however, when you’ve seen the same ones so much you’ve memorized the lines of each character, it gets mundane. We’ve resorted to board games like monopoly or scrabble. The kids spend more time outdoors playing, being imaginative, and sneaking out Daddy’s tools to dismantle their playground. We’ve read more than ever. We’ve spent more time as a family. Did we miss TV? ABSOLUTELY! I especially miss watching comedies before bed, and yes, even the news. What I don’t miss, is my sofa covered in a body engrossed in television for hours! Nor, do I miss cookie crumbs and popcorn buried in sofa from SpongeBob marathons. We don’t sit around the tube watching depressing news while eating. We eat while sharing news about our day. The amazing part is our electric bill has dropped incredibly! However, that is the only bill that has dropped. We’ve all experienced the pain of the rising cost of living. Lately, with enormous hikes in gas and food it becomes a choice of whether to eat or drive for some. There was a point a few years back when I had lost my job just days before Christmas. I panicked like most would. My spouse had completed a huge construction project that also ended a huge salary. We were reduced to a fourth of what we were used to living on. I was used to buying take-out at least once a week. I loved our date nights of Sushi or going to a cabin for a weekend get-a-way. Now all that had come to a screeching halt! It was time to get back to basics. It meant learning to feed a family of 5 on less than $10 a day! I consider myself resourceful, but the challenge came with the sudden grocery price increase. While my teen and I were shopping, she grabbed milk and shocked at the cost said to me, “This milk better turn chocolate, and dance in my cereal for what it cost”! Stunned I also thought, “Where is the rest of the cow? We went along pricing as she picked up a bag of chicken costing nearly the price of a trip to Disneyland and said, “This chicken better lay eggs too”. She was getting the full picture and reason for my nagging about making the food last for a week. When we entered produce I had hopes of finding potatoes on sale. Well, to my surprise there was only a 5 lb. bag for almost $5 and I thought surely these must come with a deed to a small farm as well. Good grief! I was disgusted; I walked over to the instant aisle of everything and found a box of potatoes instead. Now I am not one who likes instant. I prefer no preservatives, fillers, dyes, or ingredients I can’t pronounce. However, I was forced to make a decision. We could die of starvation or buy a box of chemically filled stuff that might have a hint of nutrition in it. I chose the boxed stuff. I spent an hour in the bread aisle, looking for affordable bread with no high fructose corn syrup, and wheat gluten. No chance. I told my teen I was making it from scratch. She snickered all the way to the baking aisle. She knew I had never made bread before. Determined, I woke up early the next day and set out to make bread. I decided to listen to a series of sermons while baking. Ironically, as I was preparing the dough, the sermon began in Leviticus chapter two. He spoke of a grain offering and how it must be prepared. Bread to be made without yeast or honey since it would be burned. God didn’t want those ingredients to ruin the savory aroma. He also instructed the bread be sprinkled with salt as it stood for an agreement with God everlasting. The bread was considered the most holy part of the offerings made to the Lord by fire. I listened intently as I pounded the dough, and prepared for it to rise. I envisioned our heavenly Father smiling as he inhaled the fragrance of fresh baked bread in the air. I couldn’t wait to smell the heavenly aroma permeate through our home. The bread was done and the scent of a French bakery filled the air. We couldn’t wait to cut that first piece after melting butter on it. The taste was unbelievable! It melted in your mouth. Bread has become more than a staple in our home. It has become a way of life. I involve the kids in the process which allows for us to spend real quality time 44

in conversation. We’ve made raisin bread, banana nut, and cinnamon, cornbread, and yeast rolls. I usually make enough to send a few loaves with the kids to our neighbors. This bread has become a teaching tool. It has shown the kids how to give to others. It has shown neighbors God’s love by receiving this bread. It has caused a domino effect of giving back. Others have showered our children with treats. It has taught my family provision from God. We have had some weeks we had no idea how we could eat having more month left over then money. The bread has been broken and given at dinner while giving thanks to God for providing that day. I am reminded of (Matthew 6:11) The Lord’s Prayer- “Give us this day our daily bread”. He tells us to ask for our food only for today. He did the same with the Israelites when he provided bread from heaven. He instructed them not to store it up for the next day, and when they did, it spoiled (Exodus 16:4, 19-21) they were to trust him for days ahead. God describes heaven like yeast that a women took and hid in a large tub of flour until it made the dough rise (Matthew 13:33). It was sacramental bread in (Matthew 26:26, Mark 14:22, I Corinthians 11:23-26) the bread that represents Christ body, in which he said take and eat). Bread is more than nourishment for the body, but food for the soul. My children will have memories of this bread making, tasting, and sharing long after I’m gone. They’ll remember every loaf created, the aroma, anticipation, and sharing when we could barely feed ourselves, more importantly, how God supplied more than enough with the little we had. They’ll laugh in memory of the flour shower trying to use a mixer to speed the process. Mostly, they will never look at bread the same again, knowing what they have learned how God loves the aroma of fresh baked bread enough to call it Holy. I never imagined that just bread would have such an impact in our life and community. I’m in awe of God who has taken job loss, removal of TV, and soaring prices to teach us how just bread multiplied blessings in our lives now and in the past. We can’t do much about the rising cost of living, but we sure can do much about rising fear. –Brenda Graff - 2014

Bread + Faith + Giving = PLENTY! ECCLESIASTES 11:1-2 “Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.”

“Baking bread is a lot like growing your faith in the Lord. You mix together the best ingredients you can find and wait for the mixture to mature, but it's the heat of the oven that makes it something of worth and substance. The same way the tribulations of this world mature a person’s faith.” ― Dorothy Love

Simple Homemade Bread For one loaf: 3 cups of flour (all-purpose) 3 tsp active dry yeast 3 tsp raw sugar 1 tsp salt Âź cup of Sesame seeds, or other toppings (optional) 1 cup of warm water 1 tbsp. real butter 1 egg

DIRECTIONS: Start by putting the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt together in mixing bowl. Add the warm water, 1 cup or as much needed to make a nice consistent dough. You don't want dough too soft. If you by mistake end up pouring too much water, don't worry, just add some more flour. Cut the butter into small cubes and add it while mixing dough. When dough is a bit sticky but not significantly sticking to your hands, start kneading it with a bit of flour and form it into a ball. After that, put the dough on the counter or on a cutting board and let it rest for 10 minutes. After about 10 46

minutes, take the dough and roll it in elongated tube shape. Divide it in 2 equal parts and roll it again into 2 rolls of about 15 inches long and as wide to fit into your hand. Put the 2 rolls next to each other, connect at one end, and start braiding them together. Once you're done braiding, spray bread pan with PAM. Place bread into pan carefully to keep shape, tuck the ends underneath if needed. Beat egg, and brush onto uncooked bread and add topping if you chose. This will give your bread a nice color and outer crunch. If you happen to be allergic to eggs, you can substitute with oil. Bake at 350 degree, for 30 minutes. When it's done, let it cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting into it. If you cut too early, the inside will be kind of gummy. Serve with butter or my favorite is, heated olive oil, basil, and garlic. Enjoy!

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ -Luke 22:19
