Breast Cancer Facts 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have NO family history of breast cancer.

In 2014, an estimated 295,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed

1.1 Million is approximately the number of women diagnosed with breast cancer EVERY year

There are approximately 2.8 million women with a history of breast cancer

Breastfeeding can lower breast cancer risk, especially if a woman breastfeeds for longer than 1 year

Although death rates have been decreasing since 1989 more than 40,000 women will die in 2014 from breast cancer

Overweight and obese women have a higher risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer compared to women who maintain a healthy weight, especially after menopause Diet is thought to be at least partly responsible for about 30% to 40% of all cancers

Smoking causes a number of diseases and is linked to a higher risk of breast cancer in younger, premenopausal women Women who started menstruating (having periods) younger than age 12 have a higher risk of breast cancer later in life 1 out of every 8 women are at risk of developing breast cancer

Women with close relatives who've been diagnosed with breast cancer have a higher risk of developing the disease. If you've had one first-degree female relative (sister, mother, daughter) diagnosed with breast cancer, your risk is doubled BrevardElite.com

House Hunting Seasons: Autumn Highs and Lows House hunting is largely considered a seasonal sport where springtime is the best time to play. After all, why not look for newer, shinier digs after being cooped up in your existing place all winter? But what many people don’t realize is that autumn can also be the perfect time to play (ahem, buy)—but it may depend on where you live. Instead of slowing down, many regions of the country buck the trend and experience high levels of activity in the fall. A new report on the seasonality of house hunting reveals just where home buying is the hottest and coldest during this time of year. Fall Slow Down Activity in the home shopping space majorly slows in many warm and beach climates during the fall months. Case and point: Hawaii and Florida show a 10% dip below the national annual average in September and October. Perhaps cooler temperatures cause house hunters to stop thinking about warm weather locations?

In major metro regions, house-hunting activity during the fall drops the most in the South and Southwest portions of the United States. The Cape Coral/Fort Myers, Florida, area, for example, dips 18% in September and October compared to the national average. Search activity plummets 12% in Austin, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona. In Charleston, South Carolina, hunting goes down 11%. The study also found that college towns have some of the lowest rates for home searching in the country during the autumn season – making it all the more important for sellers to list before classes begin. College Station/Bryan, Texas, Columbia, Mo., and Iowa City, IA, are three university towns that see a reduction in activity during this time of year.

In addition, search activity slows in many vacation spots – especially in Florida. Some of the main areas lumped into this category include Punt Gorda, Naples/Marco Island and Key West. Bucking the Trend There are several areas in the country where autumn is the busiest time of year for home searching. The most active of these regions are vacation areas near ski resorts and in mountain and forest areas. The county of Lincoln, NM (which is close to winter resort Ski Apache), experiences 16% higher search activity during the fall when compared with the annual average. The area around Ellsworth, ME (known for a fun winter carnival) boasts 13% higher house hunting activity in the fall compared with the rest of the year. Read more BrevardElite.com

The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 extended the protections of

Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (the Fair Housing Act) to people with disabilities. This is the law that applies to most forms of housing, including most rental housing and most condominiums. Exceptions to this law include buildings with four or fewer units where the landlord lives in one of the units, and (b) private owners who do not own more than three single family houses, do not use real estate brokers or agents, and do not use Service dog Chloe discriminatory advertisements. In general: 1. A landlord cannot require a pet deposit for a service animal. However, the owner of the service animal is liable for any damages caused by the animal above and beyond the normal wear and tear a human tenant might reasonably cause. This includes teeth marks on trim, carpet torn by a dog's digging, and carpet soiled by dog waste or vomit. 2. A landlord might or might not be permitted to require a pet deposit for an emotional support animal. 3. A landlord is permitted to require some sort of proof of disability as a condition of accommodation, and some sort of proof the animal in question is a trained service animal, though generally he cannot require certification per se. 4. A landlord is permitted to exclude an animal, including a bona fide service animal, if the presence of the animal causes a fundamental alteration of the goods and services offered to other tenants. For example, a dog that nuisance barks keeping neighbors awake at night causes a fundamental alteration and may be banned from the premises, though the landlord should permit the human tenant to remain without the dog if the tenant so chooses. 5. A landlord is permitted to exclude an animal, including a bona fide service animal, if the animal poses a direct threat. For example, an animal permitted to deposit fecal material in a common area where that material is not immediately cleaned, poses a health threat to people using that common area, particularly when the common area is where children might play on the ground. If the tenant is not able to clean their dog's waste area themselves, it falls on the tenant, not the landlord, to secure the services of someone to do the cleaning for them. A tenant's first step in dealing with a housing issue should be to write the landlord a letter requesting a reasonable accommodation. If the landlord fails to respond to the written request or refuses the accommodation, the tenant may choose to pursue the matter by filing a complaint with HUD or the U.S. Department of Justice. Halloween Safety Tips for Your Home Halloween is a time for kids and grown ups alike to make believe, pretend, and have fun. But high spirits, sugar highs, along with darkness call for a few common sense safety tips to make your home safer for the little trick-ortreaters. Avoid candles and live flames in your Halloween decoration. It is much simpler to replace them with LED or battery operated candles. These are safer, but you still need to make sure that they don’t come or stay in contact with paper, cloth, or anything else that is easily flammable. Remember that a lot of Halloween decorations like dried flowers, straw and crepe paper are highly flammable. Make sure to keep your decorations away from all open flames. All heat sources such as light bulbs can also cause fires so exercise some care. If you are putting up Halloween lights, make sure that all electric cables are safely out of the way of prying little hands. Also make sure that your lights are safe to use outside, and will not cause any problems should it happen to rain. Since flickering lights and darkness are such a large part of Halloween, it could be difficult

to see very clearly. Keep the area around your home clutter free. Put away any gardening implements or sharp tools that could cause a child, or even an adult to trip. Put away garden hoses, toys, and bikes Check your porch lights or entry lights beforehand to make sure they are fully functional. Make sure to keep the area around your entry brightly lit to prevent accidents. When putting out Halloween decorations for display, make sure to leave enough room for people to walk up to your door without bumping into them. If you are hosting a Halloween party for children inside your home, put away all the breakable stuff. Make sure there is sufficient light to see, as some children may not be familiar with the layout of your home.

Top 5 Home Design Trends for Fall Go Natural. Natural and organic patterns are a big trend this fall — add branchpatterned textiles and wall coverings for a dose of whimsy. A swirled or marbleized pattern is also popular and works well on accent pillows or bedding. For an unexpected twist, try an oversized natural organic print painted onto a dining room wall. For a crisp, monochromatic look, paint the design in two shades of the same color. Glamour-ize. Try changing out the hardware on an accent chest or dresser, or hang a fun light fixture in an office, powder room or bedroom in a gold finish. It’s okay to mix finishes in this case — gold blends nicely with bronze and black finishes used elsewhere in the home.

Create coziness. Cooler weather encourages the transition from sleek & modern kitchens to a more cozy, relaxed feel for the space. Add décor and accessories created from reclaimed wood for a warm, rustic space this season. Add sparkle. Large mirrors and mirrored surfaces add depth and interest to any space. Use a leaning floor mirror in a dining room, a large round mirror over a fireplace or entry console, or a large hanging mirror in a small space to reflect light and make a space appear larger. For a real wow factor, use a collection of vintage mirrors along a hallway or staircase to create a striking gallery display. Mix it up. Avoid matching and coordinating sets, décor and fabrics. Bring in a mix of styles, old and new, and crisp and soft. This will make your home look lived in and add a designer touch.
