One absolute certainty in the wedding industry that you may not realize, or that is certainly not covered by the media, is that most wedding professionals have a genuine love of what they do. They sincerely want to see a couple have the best wedding possible. Then there are those who desire to take it up a notch. These are the wedding pros that still tear up when hearing your wedding story and totally immerse themselves in your day. These amazing people tend to work together frequently, respect each other and are part of associations where like minded individuals and businesses share their experiences, compare notes and work to better that, which is the business of weddings. One such group is the Tulsa Wedding Society. This talented group of people, from all spectrums of the wedding industry, meet weekly to not only network and stay in touch, but to learn from one another. By

sharing information, each learns and continues their education on subjects that crop up from the wedding industry or more importantly, from the brides themselves. It is because of this, each merchant involved knows the high standards of quality expected by the Tulsa Wedding Society and can, in the blink of an eye, without reservation, help a bride find the merchant or merchants who can make their wedding the best it can be. But Tulsa Wedding Society is even more than that. The camaraderie and true sense of community is something very special to this group of people. Through events such as TWS (Tulsa Wedding Society) Gives Back, literally thousands of dollars have been raised for the Little Lighthouse, a charitable organization that works with special needs children and their families. Monies are raised through donations of products and services from Tulsa Wedding Society members. If you are planning a wedding or know someone who is, do yourself a favor and visit the great folks at tulsaweddingsociety.com and see for yourself what makes these people so dedicated and passionate about weddings, especially your wedding.^

t seems that no matter how hard we try, when planning a wedding, finding something fun, unique and most of all, new, can be quite the challenge. JP Wilson of Jam Events and Productions may just have the solution you are looking for. The Slow Motion Booth.
Going beyond the typical, still shot photo booth, the Slow Motion Booth captures video in both normal speed and, you guessed it, slow motion. "We use the latest movie production grade cameras to capture each hilarious moment at super slow motion." This, along with the wild and fun props that can be part of the booth setup, then adding your friend's antics, create a snippet of video that is sure to tickle your heart and serve as a bit of a time capsule to the fun and lighter side of your wedding. JP Wilson tells us that "from start to finish, our team is focused on fun as we set up our backdrop, professional lighting, camera and plenty of props for you and your guests to experiment and playback the hilarious moments." He adds that you and your guests don't have to come up with ideas on their own as the staff will be happy to suggest ideas that they can use to make you laugh. With all the possibilities, this might be something unique you may wish to add to your wedding day. JP has also shared that currently, this type of booth is exclusive to Jam Events and Productions. eddings are so darned expensive! We have all heard it or even said it before and the reality is, without sugar coating it, is yes, they can be. The average cost of an American wedding is in the $26,000 dollar price range. The average cost of an Oklahoma wedding is in the $18,000 dollar price range. But the key word here is “average.” Now, I am certainly not advocating taking out loans or mortgaging yours or your parent’s home to pay for a wedding. That, in my opinion, is taking things just too far. But keeping your expectations realistic, understanding that your time is valuable as well as other people’s time. That there will be costs to setting up this big event called your wedding. Whether your wedding is a huge gala or small affair, your wedding is an event and there are some simple truths to creating an event. Just like an event, there is wardrobe, location, photo/video, décor, food, seating & rentals, transportation, lodging and entertainment, just to name a few. A wedding doesn’t just happen. It takes people, as well was planning and is often a production. Whether big or small, it will have a price tag of some sort, be it time, money, or both, associated with it. The simple fact is that there are modern weddings that can cost less than $5000 dollars. But at those price points, one must realize what is truly being traded for the savings in money. What is being traded? Time! Your time, your parent’s time, your family’s time and your friend’s time. It is an absolutely wonderful thing for mom or grandparents to want to do the food. Your bridesmaids to create the décor and your aunt to make the cake. But feeding 100 guests is no small task. Decorating a reception hall is work. I have personally witnessed the grandparents, so busy with keeping up the food stations, they totally missed the fancy surprise dance the bridal party did. Perhaps mom was so busy coordinating what and who goes where that even she missed these special moments. But all is not lost, they can see it on video some other time right? Hopefully

there was a videographer present or at least someone recording it on their cell phone. I was recently involved in a friend's wedding where my partner, myself and some friends were the ones who created the centerpiece arrangements, set up the reception, candy bar, reception décor and that was just on the wedding day. Three people, for four hours of harried, non stop setup and that doesn’t even count the time spent helping to plan this and talk with wedding merchants. We were whooped. No question. But we did it out of caring for the bride and even then this wedding had a budget approaching $15, 000 dollars. The point here is that this is work. It doesn’t just happen and at some point, the issue should be weighed about having professionals come in and make this happen. It is absolutely wonderful and incredibly sweet that your family and friends want to help give you incredible gifts of themselves by doing wedding legwork. It is freaking awesome! But when your event starts to exceed even just 20 or more people, it can become a juggernaut and a bit overwhelming for those who are trying their level best to make your dream come true. Truly think about what is involved and how much time it will really take for each task to be done. Think about how much they will miss. If you truly look at all the parts of the wedding, you can plan finances accordingly and let your family and friends have the day off. More often than not, you will find that your choice to leave it to the pro’s will have bought so much more than just food, drink and décor. It will allow everyone to truly enjoy the most important part of the wedding. The two of you and the love you all share for each other.^

Contrast. Whether done with colors or even concepts, contrasts, judiciously done, almost always make a design far more interesting and visually stimulating. Here, the design takes on a very posh and opulent look juxtaposed to brick walls of the venue, creating a lush, yet fascinating feel and texture. To achieve the opulent look and feel, the designer used metal tones like gold in the vases and candle holders, as well as the silver tone of the beaded chargers. Adding luxurious elements wherever possible, like the frame for the table number and the crystal chandelier. To maintain cohesion, it's important to carry the theme through to all areas of the event. The use of sequin table linens for the bistro tables at the cigar lounge and the overlay with jewel toned floral embellishments for the cake table, all help tie the design together. The floral design added a dose of romance with the use of color. It also adds to the opulent feel with the volume of the arrangement. To quote Lady Grantham of Downton Abbey fame, "Nothing succeeds like excess!"

A
fairy-tale bridal luncheon and tea at the historic French Room at The Adolphus Hotel transported bride-to-be Kelsie Guthrie, her mother, Terri, sister, Codi Reed, eight bridesmaids and their special guests to an opulent French chateau only glimpsed in fairy-tales. The elegant event was a fitting precursor to a joyous wedding weekend enjoyed by Kelsie, her groom and many family members and friends who flew in from around the nation to share in the couple’s joy. The decor was set in a lush, southern vintage inspired bridal luncheon in the exquisite ballroom with color palate in sherbet hues of mint, peach, and creamy vanilla. Upon entering the Europeaninspired dining room, guests’ were amazed at the breathtaking floral arrangements and complementing décor of the opulent ballroom which had been transformed into a feminine sanctuary. To add even more personal touches, the hostesses planned the event with the bride’s preferences in mind. The bride’s favorite foods were reflected in the menu choices, which included light and healthy selections. A harpist played angelic music as Kelsie was showered with special tributes and blessings.

As luncheon guests entered the The French Room they were greeted with butler passed hors d’oeuvres and cold peach bellinis. A magnificent floral arrangement in a giant gilded urn was the centerpiece of the foyer table. It was an enormous and stunning summer bouquet blooming of gorgeous pale green hydrangeas, garden roses, orchids, berries, herbs and fresh green apples. Framed engagement portraits of the future bride and groom were on the romantic table. An antique lace and pearl covered book served as a place for guests to sign in and document their attendance. The T Shaped table was covered with an elegant ruffled and taupe linen. The theme was continued with the table décor using gold beaded chargers, vintage inspired lace napkins with an antique broach served as a napkin ring, calligraphy custom name cards and lace cap chiavari chair covers. The entire length of the table was covered with a cascading centerpiece with mounds of fantastic floral including fluffy green hydrangeas, garden roses in creamy whites, peachy David Austin roses, green orchids, fragrant lilacs, hypercom berries, and fragrant stock, with touches of fresh green apples. Menu items included an amuse-bouche of smoked scallop and blackened bay shrimp salad on toast points and a
delicious limestone salad filled with fruit, goat cheese and cilantro vinaigrette with Southwestern marinated smoked chicken breast. Tea sandwiches were made of homemade bread and featured mozzarella and vine ripe tomato, balsamic reductions and fresh basil, English cucumbers with Boursin cream cheese and egg salad. Strawberry tarts, chocolate mousse and pecan diamond bars topped off the lovely luncheon. Beverage choices included a variety of hot teas and cool peach bellinis.^

hoosing a hair and makeup style for your wedding can be a daunting task. Do I wear my hair up, down, half up? What about curls? Do I stay natural or go for a new look? Your friends and relatives give their opinions as well. Some of the best resources is to pick up magazines like BridalifeStyle and start looking through them, cutting out pictures. Pinterest is a great source for looks and styles. Be sure to save them on a board so you can easily show to your hair/makeup artist. When choosing a makeup look and hairstyle, take into consideration that these are photos you will want to look back on for years to come. Choose something that fits your style

and looks like you, of course enhanced, and coordinates with your dress / head piece or veil When you meet with your artist for your trial (we will come back to this), show them what you have collected. Go over each collected photo and narrow down. Take into consideration your dress and hairpiece and/or veil. If you have long hair and your dress has details in the back that you would like to show, then an “up do style may be just the ticket. If you are self conscious about having your hair up but would like to try wearing it up, try a modified low, soft up style with some loose hair framing your face. You could do a half up, or lastly do a down style if these feel more you. There is no rule that says hair has to be up; because at the end of the day, it needs to reflect you and something you are comfortable with. Many of my brides wear their hair one-way for the wedding then I do another style before the reception. Ok, the trial. Yes! Yes, you should have a trial. The exception to this would be if you have worked with the artist before and completely trust they can execute the look you are after. Having a trial done is an amazing stress reliever. You will KNOW that the artist can create the look you want and will have an opportunity to tweak the look to your particular features. Then on wedding day, your look is complete and you will look fabulous! Remember, this is your day. Make sure you are comfortable with the look you have chosen. Take pictures of your trial with your cell phone to see how it looks and what, if any, changes need to be made. This is one stress that you can be rid of before you even get to the venue. ^

Yes, you may find a super talented photographer that is just starting out for a great price, but just remember, you are the one paying the difference for that great price. The photographer just starting out, typically does not have the experience or equipment in many cases, of a seasoned pro and may miss or forget something and may not even know what they are missing. If you are okay with this reality, by all means, press on. However, the reality of an experienced professional comes with them a peace of mind that the newbie, no matter how well meaning, can ever achieve. Get To Know Each Other

here is no doubt about it. The photographs that are made of your wedding are some of the most important memories you will ever hold. These precious, timeless moments of you, your husband, family and friends, capture a time in space that will never come again; and sadly, in some cases, is the last time you may ever have a photo or moment with a particular friend or loved one. But before the first click of the shutter, it is a great idea to really take some time to think about, and plan exactly what you want to have captured and how. So many times, just a few, simple details can be the difference between mediocre and greatness. Price Does Not Make A Good Photographer In this day and age, we literally grow up being taught to price shop. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but price alone is a very poor way to gauge a good photographer. Most photographers offer packages or some sort of baseline of price point. But just calling or emailing and asking for pricing is a sure fire way to set yourself up for disappointment. Every wedding, including yours is often a unique situation and when you contact your photographer, you may be asked a few questions or even to come in for a consultation. Please don’t be frustrated or offended by this. Despite what some in the media may say, this is not a trick to get your money. Great wedding merchants want the best for you and your wedding and simply to do a good job for you at a fair price. The fact that you contacted a particular merchant generally means that you like their work or have been recommended to you. So do a favor to the both of you and actually consult with them. If price/budget is an extreme issue, be up front with the merchant. Many will do their level best to work with you and your budget. One of the saddest things I have heard is when a bride ended up doing something herself; spent more time and money than she should have. Then to discover that she could have had a particular merchant do what she wanted, for her, for the same or less money. Try Not To Settle The confusing reality is that some great photographers don’t charge enough and some, not so great ones, charge too much. In general, for baseline purposes, your photography budget should be in the 10% to 20% range of your wedding budget. It typically follows that the bigger the wedding, the more there is to be photographed and you are going to want pictures of just about all of it. I have had weddings where photography has been nearly 50% of the budget. It really depends on your priorities but again, this is a baseline.
46 BridalifeStyle Magazine Fall/Winter 2014 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM
From the first moment you sit down with your photographer, or any of your wedding merchants for that matter, make sure that you get along. It may not seem like that big of a deal at first, but you will be spending a good deal of time with this person and if your photographer can’t make you smile or feel comfortable, this particular merchant may not be the right fit for you. No discount is worth this level of frustration. But Wait! There’s More! Ok, you have found your photographer. Monies and package options are ironed out and you all get along famously. But you aren’t done yet! This isn’t really the time to hug and say goodbye until the wedding day. Think about how you want your day captured. The types of formals and portraits you want, as well as who you want in them. The number one reason certain pictures get missed is a lack of time. Great wedding photographers know how to get great portraits on the fly. But allowing time to create those perfect photographs will reward you with incredible, indelible images that you, your family and one day, your children will cherish. Never Be Afraid To Ask The bottom line here is communication. Don’t be afraid to ask for a picture. Asking about pricing is not taboo, but please try not to solely base your decision on price. Great photography is not like buying a television or a car. It is a very personal choice that you will live with, good or bad, for all time. Taking the time to ask questions, allowing the merchant to help you understand things that may not be clear, will help you both win and in the end, you will have done your very best to help make your photographs and your photography experience, everything it absolutely should be. Wanting The Best For You The reality, regardless of the tripe so many talking heads spew is the fact that 99.9% of the folks in the wedding industry truly want to make you happy. They love weddings, helping people feel and look their best and be happy on their wedding day. Quite frankly, they got into the wedding business because of a passion for doing something wonderful and being able to make a living doing it. Yes, there are some not so great ones out there too, but by and large, just by doing some simple legwork on your part, you can easily avoid those and find the perfect merchant who will take the stress off of your plate and help make your day the best it can be.^

appiness! Excitement! Loved! This is how Michele describes her feelings of that amazing moment as she walked down the aisle.
The seeds of that moment were planted and started to grow back in 2007; when she met Rusty at a happy hour event at Deep Deuce Grill. The two had rowed for Devon in the Fall Regatta and met while celebrating that night. The two hit it off! Four years would go by of "making memories" as Michele puts it, and the time would come for one of the greatest memories of all to be made. The day Rusty would ask Michele to be his bride. Rusty took Michele out to a very special place. A place that she calls her "safe haven, my home and where the people I loved most in the world had once lived." Her grandparent's home. There, surrounded by the beauty of nature, nestled amongst the trees, accompanied by their 2 dogs, Rusty would drop to one knee in a very special spot. Michele tells us that this spot was where her grandfather had always chosen to pick wild flowers for her grandmother. "I tackled him on the spot and the rest is history." One of Michele's favorite times of the year is Fall. She just always loved the

feeling this time of year brings with mildly warm temperatures and the beautiful, changing trees. This to her, is simply a magnificent time of year. Interestingly, before a wedding was really even much of a thought, she had found what would become the perfect Fall location for her wedding. "I discovered Rosebrook Vineyards before I was even engaged. I was immediately enamored with the beauty and rustic feel of its barn and property." She adds, "I knew then it would be the place I got married." The vision for the wedding day was coming to life. A day filled with pumpkins and gourds along with very personal touches from the history of both families, this wedding day would prove to be as much of a celebration of family history and love as it would be of the couple's new lives together. Michele tells us that "I have been lucky enough to inherit my grandmother's love of antiques and family heirlooms, so it was important to me to incorporate those pieces into our special day." But it doesn't stop there. She adds, "What wasn't already handed down, my father built for Rusty and me as a wedding gift." Both Michele and Rusty know they are truly "blessed with amazing families." Michele's wedding day was amazing. Filled with the happiness, love and excitement she so hoped for. Through her wedding planning she found that you need to "do your research. Be up front with everyone involved about what is important to you and your fiancĂŠ."
Of her wedding day, she adds, "I can honestly say that standing before all of our friends and family, and saying our vows before God in a beautiful vineyard on a warm fall evening, with the Oklahoma sun setting behind us, and standing under an arbor that my father built with his own two hands, was by far the most magical and simply perfect moment of my life." One last piece of advice Michele offers to anyone getting married is to "Spend as much time as you can soaking in every last moment of this time in your life." ^

time to capture the elements that you’ve envisioned for your film. Bride and groom prep, exchanging gifts, reading letters, filming interviews, your first look, and shooting the venue and details are all elements of your wedding film that must be planned just as we plan for the ceremony and reception. We’ll also talk about capturing great audio on your wedding day. One trademark of a modern cinematic wedding film is clean audio, captured professionally, and artistically woven into your film’s story.

1-3 weeks out – Last consultation – We will meet-up once more to talk about any last minute details, walk through the timeline and discuss the individual events of the day in depth. This helps me and my team to be informed and ready to anticipate the action of the day as it unfolds.
our wedding film can and should be a work of art; a unique story of the two of you. What does it take to handcraft your wedding film? I’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at the whole process from a filmmaker’s perspective.
Professionals on your wedding team is incredibly important! As a filmmaker, photography and entertainment are the two most important elements to the success of your wedding film. Why? Talented photographers have the gift of drawing out the personalities of everyone they’re shooting. Natural, candid responses are the stuff of brilliant wedding films and while your photographer is creating those moments, we’ll likely be right alongside them, discreetly capturing it.

6-12 months out – Your first inquiry – Who are you and what is your story? It is my job to find your story and bring it to life through video. While my style is consistent and unique to me as an artist, each film I produce is different because of your personal story. If you and I determine we’re a good fit, you’ll save your date and become my client. We’ll stay in close contact as your wedding plans take shape over the next several months.
Quality entertainment is also key to the success of your wedding day. Our clients repeatedly tell us they want to see emotion. A great entertainer has a flow of the timeline and informs, guides, and directs guests to be involved and connected to the bride and groom. The guests stick around longer and dance more, which means more of the fun you’ll want to see in your wedding film. The night before – Prep – Practically giddy with excitement, if I’m not at your rehearsal dinner filming your toasts, then I’m charging batteries, formatting cards and loading equipment. I communicating with my crew about logistics, timeline, and specific tasks of each crew member for synchronized shots of onetime moments. This never gets old for us. The day of – We arrive at least 2.5 hours before the ceremony to shoot bride/groom prep, what we call B-roll (detail shots of the little things). This includes interviews, letters, first look, and ceremony setup (multiple cameras, lighting concerns, clean audio for groom and officiate). Knowing the flow of the event really helps, although adjustments are always necessary and being proactive ensures we aren’t often surprised.
1-3 months out - Follow up and planning – I’ll check in with you to see if you need guidance and I’ll ask you to keep me informed of your plans leading up to the wedding day. We will discuss your day-of timeline as we intentionally plan
54 BridalifeStyle Magazine Fall/Winter 2014 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM
Ceremony – Your ceremony film is a mix of wide-angle shots, and many close-ups with the most important part of the day. The processional, the look on his face when he sees you coming down the aisle towards him, your vows and the officiate’s message and
more, all captured in clean audio and HD video from multiple angles. Cocktail hour and reception – While you’re finishing up photos after the ceremony, we are setting up lighting and audio for the reception. We shoot more B-roll and meander through the reception venue to capture your guests enjoying your party as we await your grand entrance and all of the special moments that are about to unfold. Post Wedding Day - Now is when the real behind-thescenes magic takes place. Less than half of our work is done when the wedding day ends. It’s what you don’t see, the post production work, often 40 plus hours, that goes into creating your unique film. Your footage is imported and backed up immediately. Then I begin by finding the best clips. From those, I begin piecing together your highlight film. It’s a messy artistic process that takes shape organically. I never know exactly how a highlight film will come together until it’s actually happening. It’s more than exciting for me to see the story of your love and your wedding day come to life. For me, the highlight film is completed within
1-3 weeks after your wedding and it’s posted online for you to share with the world! We then finish editing the remainder of your day and deliver it all to you on a personalized USB drive.
C
A wedding film sure isn’t what it used to be. It’s better. Way better! It’s the story of you, the story of your wedding day. It’s the voices of friends and family. It’s a story that you’ll want to share with your kids someday. When handled by a professional, it’s a carefully handcrafted piece of art created just for you.^

STORY BY
aylor and Ryan met while in college at the University of Southern California. Both biology majors, they actually met while at a volunteer program through Los Angeles County Hospital. Taylor was immediately interested in Ryan recalling that she "went back to my dorm after we met and looked up his Facebook profile with a couple of friends. (as any sensible teenager would)." Her friends wrote him a truly embarrassing message from her account while "I laughed in the background and I doubted I would ever hear from him." "But I did!" It was from here that a wonderful relationship came to be and one weekend, Ryan took Taylor to San Diego. While on an early morning hike in Torrey Pines State Park, the two were on a trail overlooking the ocean. There were signs posted to the rails with their favorite song lyrics. At the point of reaching the end of the trail, Ryan got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, Taylor said yes and when they returned, both of their families awaited to celebrate with a surprise engagement party.
Now both Taylor and Ryan live in San Francisco, CA and Dallas, TX was truly a destination for many of their guests. But they "wanted to really share Texas with everyone and it was important to us to be able to tie in the natural beauty of the state as much as possible while still having an elegant wedding and reception." Taylor was looking to create what she calls a "romantic, earthy elegance vibe." So to create this, there was a lot of wood, lace and neutral florals. "My dad even built the wooden stump centerpieces from tree trunks from the saw mill." Because Taylor and Ryan wanted to share the grandeur of Texas with their guests, they truly felt it important to wed in an outdoor ceremony. They would find a wonderful venue in McKinney, TX, TPC Craig Ranch, that fit the bill, and should the weather not cooperate, there was an option that would still work well for them. As it turned out, Taylor recalls, it was a good decision. "because we needed it." A big thunderstorm came up and they were married on the back porch with a beautiful Texas sized view behind them. Taylor recalls being amused at how she would check the weather almanac and how it showed it hadn't rained on that date there in ten years. "I guess we were due for it." Taylor has an important piece of advice for any bride on an outdoor wedding, "Hire your hair person for the whole day. I was incredibly lucky because my cousin, Andi, did my hair and was available to actually style it twice. Once before the ceremony (as planned) and once after (unplanned)" "The wind and humidity completely destroyed my updo and it was a very happy accident that she was there to fix it after the Texas weather undid her original hard work." She recalls of her wedding day that "It was amazing." "We've never felt so surrounded by love. We have such wonderful friends and family and were so grateful to have everyone there to celebrate." One of the things that, for Taylor, made the wedding so special were the personal touches added into it like the centerpieces made by her father or the menu which was inspired by family recipes and restaurant dishes which they really loved. "It really kept us focused on the reason we where there and involved our family and our friends in our love story."^

he two of your are in love. There is no doubt about it. You would walk through fire for each other and it has been a year or two, maybe more, since your wonderful wedding day. When you were planning your wedding, there was a tremendous amount of attention focused on it and the two of you. The big day happened and it is one of the most cherished days of your lives. But time has passed. Perhaps you have purchased a new home, changed careers or even started a business. You may have or are about to have a baby. Basically a great many changes have happened and you are both constantly bombarded with life's many distractions. There is stress in your life and perhaps you aren't feeling like you are as close as you were just a couple of years ago. Perhaps this begins a worry deep inside, adding yet another distraction to your world. Take heart. It simply means that the two of you need to remember to make time for each other. Great marriages, like a roaring fire, tend to die down a bit if not tended to. They require a good deal of

may tell you that your partner is needing comfort or feeling distressed. Keeping these lines of communication open will help keep you both from growing apart; plus keeping up with each other helps you both know you have each other's back. Make time for each other. I am not just talking about sex here, although you should remember to make love to each other. I am talking about doing something more than sitting in front of the TV while you both are in your separate worlds on your smart phone or tablet. You don't have to plan expensive nights out or fancy trips either. While these are wonderful surprises, they are not always practical. Something as simple as regularly taking a quiet walk together cause you to focus on each other, shutting out the rest of the world, helping to keep your emotional ties strong. Don't forget to play. Yes, it is a grown up world and it ain't all it's cracked up to be. Think about when you were dating, when you got engaged and how silly the two of you may have been with each other. You may have chased each other, played games with each other or simply sat on the shore watching the sun set. The fact is that the more complex our lives are, the greater the need to play. Allow yourselves time for child like wonder and romantic fun. The real world tries to drum this out of us. Hang on to it and don't let go.

Yes, the world can get in the way, but perhaps these suggestions can help you keep the world from taking over; and perhaps, just perhaps, you will both have created a world together that nothing can take away. notes
This styled shoot is the perfect example of not being afraid to let your personality shine at your wedding. The lovable quirky couple is what this is all about! From the unusual color combinations to the use of industrial elements like the fantastic, repurposed lamps, mixed with organic elements like antlers, turtle shells, porcupine quills and agates. The floral arrangements are also otherworldly in rich texture without losing the elegance fit for an occasion like a wedding. The use of geometric shapes in the stationery design also lends a wonderfully modern touch. A more personal touch is lent to the wedding decor when items are used from the bride and groom's personal collection. Items collected through your travels or perhaps mementos of your special dates, can all be incorporated into the decor and help make it a true reflection of who you are as a couple, allowing your personalities to truly shine.

Chasen Shaw with Chasen Shaw Entertainment Interviewed by Roy Groat Jr.
T
here is no doubt about it, the wedding reception is likely one of the biggest parties you will ever throw. After all, it is the celebration of your newly minted marriage! With this in mind, we thought it might be a great idea to ask a few questions of why and what makes this celebration party forgettable or the event of the year. We sat down with Chasen Shaw of Chasen Shaw Entertainment to get his take on what can make or break this incredible event! Q. What is the big deal about wedding entertainment anyway?
A. Entertainment IS the big deal! It’s the reason we love the big concert, the latest movie and the special vacation. When we attend a special event, we want to enjoy our time and feel included in the celebration. Your wedding entertainment will either make, or break, the entire reception. Q. Do I really need "entertainment?" Can't I just have music playing?
A. Hopefully every celebration has entertainment through the collection of your guests, but the host should proactively decide how the focus will be on the guests of honor. The most important thing is that your guests know what is happening. This is mainly done through a master of ceremonies, either a friend, the best man, or a hired professional. Music is a must. The right music is even better. Music sets the event’s tone and how the music is played, when and why, is key. From a string quartet, a vocalist, jazz trio, DJ, or rock band, each sets the tone for your guests’ shared experiences.
Q. Is there a difference between wedding entertainment and a DJ? How do I tell?
A. Big difference. A Wedding Entertainer Director acts as the master of ceremonies and music programmer, as well as behind the scenes director making sure props and people are set for the next event activity. With technology, we are all DJs. It takes a few evenings and an internet connection to become a “DJ” business on Google, complete with online reviews and testimonials. One thing most won’t show you is their video footage. Seeing video footage of recent weddings will quickly reveal what you’re investing in. Q. Is there planning involved or do I just bring a USB drive or CD's?
A. There is a manageable time investment in planning and we invest more time preparing and rehearsing for your event than the 4-5 hour reception itself. All our music is purchased legally and we never request music from our guests. Q. I have a wedding planner. Can you work with them?
A. Of course! We love working with wedding planners because they ensure that you have an incredible experience. When you hire a dream team of wedding professionals, it almost always guarantees a wildly successful celebration. The wedding planner is with you from booking it to cooking it, delivering it and cleaning it up. Definitely worth the investment.
Q. Okay, I get the need for entertainment. How do I go about finding it?
Q. What should I know or be aware of when choosing my wedding entertainment?
A. First, decide what type of event you want. If the solution is obvious to you, begin securing your entertainment immediately. If you know what you want but have questions, seek expert advice. You will save time and resources and most offer free consultations. Event professionals enjoy helping people even when we aren’t the right fit for them.
A. Entertainment is responsible for over 70% of an event’s success. When guests are informed and comfortably guided according to plan, they will stay longer, dance harder and remember your event forever.^

litter! Gold! Blush! These are the things that comes to Nicole's mind when describing the vision of her wedding! "I love sparkles, bubbles and all things girly!" she says. With that notion in mind, she also wanted her wedding day to be a classy and whimsical, garden affair. Nicole knew from very early on exactly where she wanted to say I do. "There was no question. Coles Garden has been on my venue radar for YEARS!!!" Loving the gorgeous location and amazing staff, she planned on an outdoor wedding in the Royal Garden. However, things weren't going to go quite the way Nicole had hoped. Well before any wedding plans came to be, Nicole needed to find the right guy first, and find him she did. Only she didn't know it. She met Kyle in college after an OU (University of Oklahoma) football game. But sadly, it was only for a brief time. "We dated for a short time, but Kyle ended up moving back to Texas." It would be three years later when, at a friends wedding, they would find each other again and "literally picked up where we left off." Over the course of a year, against all the odds, Nicole and Kyle would share a long distance relationship. But when Kyle moved back to Oklahoma, it would be only a week before he would propose!
78 BridalifeStyle Magazine Fall/Winter 2014 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM
Yes, Kyle indeed proposed to Nicole, in a simple and sweet way, right in the living room of his house. Now he didn't just blurt it out...there was a bit of a plan and it was beginning to frustrate Nicole just a bit. You see, Nicole is a popcorn lover. So much so that she tells us that anyone who knows her, knows she loves it. Kyle had a big bowl of popcorn and this was confusing and irritating her just a bit as they were about to go out to dinner. Well, Kyle had placed the ring in that bowl of popcorn! He then got down on one knee and asked Nicole to be his bride and she said yes!!!! The newly engaged couple did indeed go on to dinner to celebrate, but not the way Nicole had planned. Kyle had a surprise party put together filled with all of their family and friends! Fast forward to wedding day. Everything had been planned and Nicole, wanting and dreaming of that perfect, whimsical garden wedding was watching the weather like a hawk. In fact, in the 2 weeks that preceded the wedding, she was on a mission learning about jet streams and weather patterns, comparing forecasts to previous years and soaking up every piece of weather information she could. So wedding day arrives and mother nature has other plans for Nicole's wedding. Oklahoma had been suffering a drought that was beginning to become severe. But that was going to come to an end on this day. Nicole's wedding day! "Not a refreshing shower. A MONSOON!" she recalls. "With a heavy heart, I had to move the event indoors." Her dream of a whimsical garden wedding, washed away with the rain, she had to face the reality
that the wedding day she had planned and dreamed of was not going to happen the way she wanted. But she recalls that "It was fabulous!" Nicole realized that "no wedding has ever gone exactly the way it was supposed to. Ever!" She learned not to sweat the small stuff and realized just what this day was really about. "Appreciate the fact that all of these people are here to see YOU!" She adds that "at the end of the day, you are going to be married to your best friend, and that is why we're here anyways!" Nicole and Kyle found each other. Through the popcorn and through the rain, they found the real meaning of their wedding day and the love to carry them through a lifetime together.^

"It was after I selected my wedding gown that I knew I wanted to have an elegant Persian-American wedding filled with love, laughter and lavender!" "My vision for our wedding day would be of elegance, beautiful flower arrangements and incorporating cultural traditions." The seeds of that vision would be planted when Ariana met Matthew in November of 2006. When it came time for him to propose, Matthew had quite a plan. Matthew had booked a cute, little cabin called the Blue Ridge down at Broken Bow, Oklahoma. "He knew that I didn't want to travel anywhere without our dog, Buffy, since I had been going in and out of the country a lot due to work." "So we packed our bags and pup, and headed out for the weekend." Once they arrived, they made themselves right at home in their cabin. On Saturday morning, knowing that Matthew wanted to go out to dinner that night, Ariana realized she didn't have any other shoes except her tennis shoes. Matthew insisted that they go to the nearest shoe store where she got some "awesome wedges" and they spent the day antiquing through the stores downtown and took a mid afternoon hike. When they returned to their cabin, they started getting ready to go out to dinner but Ariana wasn't too enthusiastic about putting a great deal of effort into getting ready and Matthew seemed ok with it, as in her head she thought "ya...it's not going to happen tonight." So Ariana goes to shower and get ready. When she comes out, she notices that the entire living area has been cleaned. Now she really didn't think too much of this as it is normal for them to tidy up their room when on a trip. She then notices that Matthew

has poured two glasses of champagne. Her mind, still thinking of getting ready for dinner, doesn't really think that much of it. Matthew suggests they take a few pictures in front of the fireplace. "Now I must have really been blind to this, but I love taking pictures, so it made me super excited when we were doing it." After taking a few pics, Matthew asked Ariana to wait a moment as he retrieved something for Buffy. "That is when something in my head sent a signal saying "OMG!! IS IT ABOUT TO HAPPEN... NO..HE WOULDN'T...WOULD HE?!?!?" Matthew returns with Buffy and she notices a massive collar on her. As Buffy gets closer, she sees the collar which reads "Will You Marry Me?" and finds Matthew down on one knee. "I was in such SHOCK that he incorporated the most important little girl to me." "He knows the most important thing in my life besides him is well....Buffy." "OH MY, OH MY how the tears started flowing." "It was the perfect proposal!" As it so happens, Ariana is a wedding planner and as such, is familiar with many different venues. The venue she chose was Gaillardia Country Club. She had fallen in love with the beautiful architecture and the breathtaking grounds. Ariana felt the romantic ambiance and simply the atmosphere was the perfect place to say I do. "My wedding day was wonderful!!" While Ariana planned her entire wedding, she had her intern, Megan Vaughn coordinate the day of so she could enjoy her day. "I had to mentally remind myself that I was no longer the wedding planner, and it was my turn to be the bride." "The best part of my day was seeing two families from different cultures come together as one."^

STORY BY Jenny George Melissa Wilson Photography

ost young ladies dream of the man they are going to marry. Some dreams come true and for Rachel, those Disney dreams were real and she knew that some day, her prince would come. Rachel met Jonathan while attending the University of West Florida during fraternity rush. Rachel, having already joined a sorority and mixing with the fraternity Jonathan was visiting, ended up sitting just two chairs from each other. Someone called him "Bama." This naturally caught Rachel's attention as she is an Alabama fan. The two started talking and they both realized he was from the same town as Rachel's aunt and uncle and even lived in the same neighborhood. They hit it off and a wonderful relationship began. Over the next 4 years, their relationship grew, and it would be tested. Eventually Rachel would move to Orlando to work for Disney World and he remained in Northwest Florida. They would, for a time, endure a long distance relationship. In time, Jonathan would propose, but there was no certainty.
94 BridalifeStyle Magazine Fall/Winter 2014 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM
It was almost Jonathan's birthday, December 7 and he told Rachel that she didn't need to visit him for his birthday, that he would come down to Orlando for Christmas. Well Jonathan couldn't wait. About a week before his birthday, he changed his mind and told Rachel she needed to come up for his birthday anyway. Okay, now Rachel knew something was up. Jonathan took her to his favorite spot at the beach, just the 2 of them and asked her to be his bride on his birthday. Jonathan would later reveal that all he wanted for his birthday was to marry Rachel and she knew that her prince had come! Wanting a simple, yet beautiful wedding filled with touches of the things the two of them love the most, neither of them wanted the wedding to be tacky or over the top. But there simply had to be touches that people would notice and "think that is SO Jonathan & Rachel." To that end, a whimsical, romantic yet vintage feeling, with a slight Disney touch would be the order of the day but most importantly, their personalities had to come through. While initially, the venue wasn't their first choice, it turned out to really fit the vision. "It had the beach without the sand." Rachel recalls and "it could have the outdoor ceremony I wanted and a very nice inside room in case of weather." Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, lights hanging in the trees, she knew this was the place for her romantic wedding. Rachel's wedding day was the dream she envisioned. Her only real regret was not hiring a videographer. "I am so sad I don't have the memories caught on tape." But despite a few logistical issues and the later regret of not having a videographer, Rachel realized that "ultimately, it wasn't the food, the cake or the guests that mattered. It was the two of us. Finally marrying after 5 years together." "The idea of spending the rest of my life with my best friend." "He looked so incredibly handsome. I will never forget that day." The "Happiest day of our lives." ^

notes
Every great design has an anchor point. For this styled shoot, the anchor point is the marvelous curly willow floral arch. As if hewn from an enchanted forest, the sheer size and detail of this magnificent piece brings an element of fantasy to the design. The organic woodland feel of the branches helps balance out the soft, feminine color scheme. Mixing the classic candelabra with the modern ghost Chiavari chairs adds interest and a bit of mystery to the design. The use of the Chiavari chairs also reflects the crystal candelabra. The draping of the pearls adds another classic element to this styled photo shoot. The boldness of the china pattern gives this otherwise soft and dreamy design a bit of a punch, elevating the look to the next level.

Q. One question that pops up time and time again, is “What does a wedding planner do?”
A. The main component of what a wedding planner does is to take the stress off of the bride and groom. As a wedding coordinator we take on many different roles; we help the bride lay out a vision for their special day and then, with our connections and expertise, we help them from start to finish make that day seamless and stress-free. Some of those roles include decision maker, etiquette expert, crisis-averter and budget advisor, to name a few. All of these allow us to step in and take all stress away during the planning process of the wedding. Q. What is the difference between a “Wedding Planner” and a “Wedding Designer”?
A. A wedding planner falls more under “coordination”. A planner aligns you with the right vendors, and makes sure that every minute from start to finish is accounted for and planned out with preciseness[sic]. A wedding designer is more under “creativity”. A lot of brides have a vague idea in their mind of what they want, a designer takes that idea and makes it tangible through design. A designer gives the brides creative ideas and inspiration that helps take the wedding to the next level. Q. Many brides think they cannot afford a wedding planner. What would you say to this bride?
A. One of a wedding planner’s greatest strengths is vendor relations. We work with many different vendors almost every weekend, so this gives us the advantage of knowing which are amazing, and which are terrible. This not only allows the bride and groom to steer clear of vendors who could waste their money

and time, it also allows us to recommend the right ones for your budget and vision. Therefore, you may pay upfront for a wedding planner, but I guarantee you will get that money back with the savings and peace of mind you will receive. Q. What do you believe sets you apart as a Wedding Planner/ Designer?
A. Planning and designing very much has a learning curve that can only truly be learned through time and experience. Luckily, that is something that we have a lot of. Between the two of us, we have over 18 years experience in not only wedding planning and designing, but corporate planning as well. You may be able to get a rather new planner/designer for a small fee, but you won’t get the knowledge and expertise that comes with years of experience. Q. Does the Wedding Planner/Designer choose the wedding merchants or does the bride?
A. A wedding planner gives suggestions based upon what we know and how we think that vendor will fit into the brides’ vision, but ultimately the bride and groom make the final decision on who they choose to go with. But, one reason why they hired the wedding planner was to help with the decision making, so hopefully that will play a role in who they select. Q. Does the bride have to give up anything for her wedding? Does she have input or veto power on the design of the wedding?
A. As wedding planners we want the bride to have everything she wants and she always has the final say in design. We will of course educate her on etiquette and what is the norm, but ultimately it is her day, and we want to make it everything she wants it to be.

Q. What is the difference between a “Wedding Planner” and a “Wedding Designer”?
A. The Planner creates the timeline, manages vendors, works closely with the bride to stay within budget and handles every “behind the scenes” aspect to insure that the event runs smoothly. She is there first and leaves last. The Designer creates the vision. When you walk in and say wow, that's what the designer did. Their responsibility is the look and feel of the event. I love that I play both of these roles for my clients! Q. What would you say is the number one reason a bride should use a wedding planner?
A. Thanks to Pinterest it seems every bride now feels that their big day can be done all on her own. What she may not think of is who will set all of this up? Who will make sure this is the best vendor for my vision and my budget? Who will clean up everything once I make my big exit and who will return all of my items while I am off on my honeymoon? There are also so many minor details that a wedding planner is aware of that someone planning a wedding for their first time may not think about. Even if you have many ideas and can do a lot of the process on your own, it is always best to have a professional guide you and take control on the big day so you are able to enjoy it. Q. What do you believe sets you apart as a Wedding Planner/ Designer?
A. My style and eye for the big picture is something unique I offer my clients. Working as fashion editor and wardrobe stylist, my vision for an event is similar to creating the perfect

photo shoot. I have a youthful spirit and love to experiment and try new and original tweaks on traditional settings. I love color and mixing patterns and offering my clients an event that stands apart from others they have attended. Q. How does a bride go about selecting a Wedding Planner/ Designer?
A. Brides select a planner in many different ways; price, availability, portfolio. But I think the best way for a bride to select their planner/designer would be referrals from friends or brides whose wedding they were blown away by. I would also recommend the bride meet with a few different planners before making her decision. She and the planner/designer will be working very closely together and you want to be sure your personalities and styles work well together. Q. Does the bride have to give up anything for her wedding? Does she have input or veto power on the design of the wedding?
A. Budget plays a large factor in whether or not a bride has to give up anything for her wedding but I always do my best to find her ways to make the most out of what she can have. This is her day and I aim to make it even better than what she imagined. Every decision made has to be approved by the bride and often times, by whomever is paying for that specific area as well. My clients have as much or as little input as they prefer. It is their big day and I am just here to make it all magical. Q. How would you describe your design style?
A. My style is young, modern and funky (when given the chance)- however my style in any event tries to reflect that style of my client as well.

Q. What is the difference between a “Wedding Planner” and a “Wedding Designer”?
A. A wedding planner is responsible for the logistics of the day. Unifying your vendors into one cohesive team to make your wedding day a success. They will help you to assist with budget creation, maintenance, wedding day timelines, seating arrangements and just about anything to do with organizing and planning your wedding. A wedding designer (sometimes called a wedding stylist) is responsible for the overall look of your wedding. An experienced wedding designer goes beyond helping you choose the color linen your should put on the guest tables or even recommend the color of the flowers you should choose. They create a design that will transform your venue, room and tables into a work of art. Q. What would you say is the number one reason a bride should use a wedding planner?
A. Because every bride deserves to be stress free on their wedding day. Planners know all the nuances of a wedding. We have worked with many local vendors and can match reputable professionals who fit the client's wedding style best. On the day of your wedding, your job is solely to be the beautiful bride everyone is gushing over; not worrying about timelines, when dinner will be served, is the first dance cued up and ready to play. That is the wedding planner's job. Q. What do you believe sets you apart as a Wedding Planner/ Designer?
A. In the past 9 years we have helped over 300 couples with their special wedding day. Our passion and excitement to fulfill each bride's dream grows stronger with each and every event. I still get goose bumps as I fluff the bride's train and send them down the aisle to her awaiting groom. Those experiences have enriched
110 BridalifeStyle Magazine Fall/Winter 2014 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM
my abilities to execute the countless details behind the scenes of weddings and parties that our clients have allowed us to participate in. I love that my job has allowed me to meet new people, share in the love stories of two families becoming one, to be creative, to collaborate with clients and vendors who have the same goal in mind. Simply stated I am passionate about my career. Q. Does the bride have to give up anything for her wedding? Does she have input or veto power on the design of the wedding?
A. Unfortunately yes, a bride will have to make some serious decisions in order to respect most budgets. Our brides remain in control of the wedding design, we respect our client's wishes and want to help them create the wedding of their dreams. We will highly recommend the best vendors for the job, and lean on our 9 years of experience if we foresee a train wreck in the making. Among the clients, vendors and planners, it is a team effort all working for one goal.....a successful wedding day for each couple. Q. How would you describe your design style?
A. I'm often asked where my design inspiration comes from. It may sound silly, I think the best inspiration comes from my couples. I like to sit down with them in the beginning and really get to know them; figure out what they want and what their wedding day vision looks like. I also like to learn about what they like to do for fun. Besides, who doesn't love a good story! Naturally fashion and interior design magazines, with all the latest national wedding trends play a big part. I love reading blogs and following other designers in the market. I’m always seeking inspiration and will often take pictures of things that are fabulous and while I’m often not sure where I can use them at that moment- I’ll usually find a way!

Q. One question that pops up time and time again, is “What does a wedding planner do?
A. As a planner, I have worn many hats and played many roles. The wedding planner fills in all the gaps, creates the timeline, manages the other wedding pros who have been contracted by the client, oversees the direction and vision of the wedding for the client, and ensures that the client can arrive to their own 'party', thoroughly enjoy their event, and leave at the moment they're ready, without lifting a finger! Q. What would you say is the number one reason a bride should use a wedding planner?
A. I would say that most wedding planners can work themselves into your standing budget, and still find ways to help you save money and spend your money in a smarter fashion. It is important to have a point person for such a momentous occasion. Employing someone with experience and credentials, who is not emotionally invested in those other individuals who would be present or pushy, is a very worthwhile investment. Allow a non-family member to play the role of the 'bad guy' when it comes to hard decisions and keeping with your vision for the big day. Q. What do you believe sets you apart as a Wedding Planner/ Designer?
A. I believe that work history, experience, and resourcefulness are pieces of my portfolio which set me apart. I have

experience in venue management, direct client relations, venue sales, and catering sales and restaurant management, both in the Oklahoma market, and in first year markets. This, paired with my passion for people, are what give me the edge that makes me a great fit for so many wedding clients. Q. How does a bride go about selecting a Wedding Planner/ Designer?
A. The selection process seems to be different for all clients. Many potential clients begin online with local search engines, wedding magazines, and, of course, by asking for personal recommendations Q. Many brides think they cannot afford a wedding planner. What would you say to this bride?
A. Most wedding planners can work themselves into your budget, while still saving you money. There is no better investment for your wedding, than a paid professional who is dedicated to YOU. Q. How would you describe your design style?
A. My design style is heavily influenced by modern, coastal design. I enjoy the world of high fashion design, and urbanchic interior design. These influences and the particulars that go along with them; organic florals, traditional fabrics and patterns mixed with heavy natural light and clean line floor diagrams and layouts, bear witness to those ties.

n today's world people are doing their level best to make better food choices and eat healthier. So for many young couples, the thought of traditional reception fare creates quite a conundrum, especially for those who prefer organically grown or vegetarian catering choices or simply prefer something different. There is good news however. You will find that many caterers are working hard to keep their menus fresh and stay abreast of the latest trends. Fresh salads, lighter chicken and seafood options, to full blown vegetarian and specialty dishes, and quite frankly a plethora of options await you. But don't be afraid to ask. It is often said that the only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked so be sure to voice your desires. The food that you will be serving at your reception is a very personal thing. It is a great idea to discuss what types of food each of you would like. Perhaps a family member has certain special food concerns and you may wish to make some provision for them as well. The point here is to make sure that you both are on the same page when it comes to the ideas you would like to present to your guests before you actually meet with your caterer. This will be of great assistance to the caterer when helping to create your reception menu. Caterers have many menu choices and options but these are often places simply to begin. Help your caterer help you by communicating what you are looking for. More often than not they are happy to work with you, helping you create the best choice and present your guests with options that are uniquely you and reflect your lifestyle and tastes.^

oneymoon Style, it may not be something you have ever thought of, but everyone has one. So what is it exactly and how can you discover yours? With so many options, deciding on a honeymoon can quickly become confusing and overwhelming. But we are not referring to current fashion trends and what you should wear. Rather, we are talking about the type of honeymoon (travel) that fits you best. A honeymoon “personality” if you will. We can best define this by looking at a few groups or categories of travel. Couples are opting for something new, exciting, unique and different from the typical type of vacation they’ve experienced in the past. They are looking to experience destinations they have never been to before, and seeking more of an upscale, unique and authentic experience. They are looking for those "bragging rights" so to speak, while also seeking the best fit for their personal preferences. So how do you know what your preferences are? Your honeymoon style? Let’s take a look at a few traits for the 6 categories below and see if these spark an interest or resonate with you. Classic Beach Bum – This style is probably the easiest to define. The Beach Bum couple is looking for total relaxation. Spending the day lounging on a pristine beach in a tropical locale or by a resort style pool and swim-up bar. Dining each evening with a variety of cuisines to choose from, and then taking a romantic stroll on a moon-lit beach after experiencing a variety of local culture and entertainment options provided by the resort. They also enjoy water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and boating. Sprinkle in some land activities such as shopping, visiting local towns, cultural sights and they have found the perfect place. Common destinations would be, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands Romantic Escapist – This couple simply wants to escape! Go off the grid so to speak. Disconnect and really get away from the more touristy destinations and large, crowded resorts. They are looking for isolation, small and intimate resorts that offer more unique accommodations. Having options for activities is still very important but this couple is also looking to be pampered, spoiled and really soak in the peace, serenity, natural beauty and local culture. Destinations include, Tahiti,

Fiji, Maldives, Bali, Greek Isles, and the Cook Islands Energetic Adventurist – This couple is very active and is looking for a good variety of adventure options. Although not limited to, these are some very popular activities, hiking, biking, zip lines, scuba diving, rock climbing, white water rafting, rappelling, kayaking, surfing and more. The Adventurous couple are thrill seekers in varying degrees and would like a good combination of activities available to them as well as a wide range of accommodations to choose from. Destinations to this type would include Costa Rica, Hawaii, Alaska, African Safari, Australia, and New Zealand Wine & Food Enthusiast – This couple is all about the culinary experience as they travel. Food and wine is very important to them and it’s most likely a top “must have”. Foodies enjoy fine wines, authentic cuisine and the ability to sample new dishes not available in their daily lives. For this couple the food IS the destination and they are willing to be a bit more adventurous in this area. Destinations with this flavor would be Barcelona, Venice, Paris, Sydney, Rome, Istanbul, San Francisco, and New York World Culture & History Buff – This couple loves to explore old world culture, medieval towns and cities, experiencing history first hand rather than through books. They really enjoy learning from local tour guides who bring each particular sight to life, explaining the sequence of events and story behind a specific region, building or monument. They also have an interest in art, architecture and museums. Destinations here would include Italy, France, England, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Croatia, and Peru Leisurely Explorer – This couple likes to be on the go but not necessarily looking for active/adventure type activities. Explorers are more interested in having freedom to discover all of the little towns, dining and entertainment options in a region, and really enjoying their local surroundings without feeling tied to a tour group or guided tour. They prefer to be centrally located and within walking distance to the local attractions, or have their own mode of transportation and a good map or guide book. They are quite accustomed to travelling and are comfortable exploring independently. Destinations include Rome, Florence, Paris, London, Sydney, Barcelona, and Maui Courtesy photo by Stephanie Cannon

• What kind of personality do you have as a couple? Are you shy, keep to yourself and prefer to explore on your own? Or are you more outgoing and like to be around other couples with similar interests? • What is on your bucket list? Do you have a bucket list? If not, this would be a great time to start one! • What are you most excited about? • When you return and are sharing photos and stories with your friends and family, what do you want to tell them? The answers to these questions will guide you to the honeymoon that is ideal for you as a couple. Once you discover your style, the next step is to look at destinations that match that style best and build the details from there.
With the above traits in mind, what steps can you take to discover your Honeymoon Style or personality? The process is rather simple. It just takes a little pre-planning and fact finding before delving into specific destinations. I recommend as a couple that you sit down together, or independently and compare notes after, and answer some very specific yet fundamental questions.
I highly recommend taking advantage of the services of a travel professional, not just because I am one, but for the simple reason that they can help guide and assist with this process in a number of ways that no website can. When searching for a Travel Professional, look for someone who specializes in the type of travel or destination you are interested in. The good travel professional has visited and is familiar with the destinations and can offer first-hand experience and recommendations. Additionally, they can help you arrange flights, accommodations, rentals, etc with the least amount of stress and confusion. They have literally been there, know what not to do and how to find the best a destination has to offer, so you can truly have the time of your life! ^
• What is the purpose of this vacation? • What are your interests? What activities do you enjoy or would you like to try on your honeymoon? • What are your expectations? Is there something(s) specific that you must have? If so be sure to list those items as a top priority. • How do you plan to spend your time? Do you want to be active, or relax and be pampered? Are you looking to explore history and culture, try new cuisine? Or maybe a combination of these.

This is the one true ally to you and your wedding that will not only fight for you, but whom you can tell all your frustrations to without upsetting a family member (or that family member telling other family members). The one who does the dance of a thousand tasks all while remaining composed, calmly fluffing your dress as you get ready to head down the aisle.

t seems that every great event has its unsung hero. From show to party, there is always someone who stands behind the scenes making sure things run smoothly from start to finish. Someone whose experience and planning skills helped to ensure a great day or event happens from the get go. Am I talking about mom? Well, in some instances, you bet. But in this instance I am talking about the wedding planner.
When you have a great wedding planner at your side, you have someone who is literally going to relieve a ton of stress from you. They will know who and often have worked many times with the most reliable wedding merchants so the guessing is off of your plate. You will be safely guided through details you may have never thought of. Tiny, wonderful little details that make things "just right." The value of a wedding planner can often times completely outweigh the expense by saving monies with wedding merchants and having the experience of knowing the best way to get something done at a particular venue, thereby saving you unnecessary expense. But this person becomes your most valuable wedding asset when you, your family and friends, don't have to worry about the tables being set or the cake arriving. You simply get to enjoy the process of preparing for your wedding and truly immersing yourself in the wedding day because all the details are being taken care of for you. When you are relieved of this stress, you get a wonderful gift. Instead of worrying about placing silverware, are there enough chairs or is there enough champagne, you get to focus on what is truly important... you, your husband to be and the love all of you share in celebrating this wonderful journey together. Truly permitting you to take in every little, precious, fleeting moment as it happens. There is absolutely no award for working your own wedding. But there is a great satisfaction and reward in the knowledge that you had the great sense to allow a professional wedding planner to help you make sure that your wedding is the very best it can be.^

ur wedding day was extremely relaxed and intimate." "We also felt an incredible amount of gratitude and joy at the fact that our friends and family were all in one place, perhaps for the only time in our lives, in order to celebrate with us." Rarely has it been said more succinctly, one of the truths about just how important and truly special a couple's wedding day really is. But Sharon hits the nail right on the head and helps bring into focus, that which is the real reason for sharing the love of a wedding. That love would begin when Sharon and Christopher met at Washington University in St. Louis. While they were both on the same freshman floor, they quickly became great friends. But the blossom of love
would wait until the two began dating in their senior year of college. When the time came for Christopher to decide to pop the question, Sharon wouldn't even see the words "Marry Me" spelled out in rose petals because of the flood of tears in her eyes from the rush of emotion that hit her as he got down on one knee! Sharon tells us that it wasn't until much later that she even realized the rose petals actually spelled something out. Both Sharon and Christopher wanted to have a simple and intimate wedding. They wanted to be able to "focus on and spend time with our family and friends, most of whom came from out of town." The main concern was, as many weddings can do, it turning into a big extravaganza that gets in the way of the
real meaning and focus of the wedding, the love they have for each other. Wanting to allow their family and friends to truly enjoy the day as guests, the choice was made not to have any bridesmaids or groomsmen. Sharon recalls getting some "push back" on this decision immediately but gives this piece of advice: "Do not let other people talk you out of the wedding you want or the vision you have." After viewing multiple venues in and around the Ft. Worth area accompanied by her mother and mother in law, they came upon the perfect spot, Bass Hall. With its three rooms which would handle the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, Sharon recalls that "this was the icing on the cake." Sharon tells us that if she could do it all again, that she would not allow the stress of planning a wedding to get in the way of enjoying the first few weeks and months of being a newlywed. "I was focused on booking "in demand" vendors early on, but thinking about DJ's and caterers within days of saying "I do" can detract from an incredibly blissful time in your life." Great advice indeed. The simple, relaxed and intimate wedding that Sharon dreamed of became a reality and is a dream that she will be forever able to hold in her heart because that dream came true.^

Just for Him^
you are after, by all means, go for it! However, many of today's couples are looking for something a bit different. Something with a little more pizzazz and a fresher style.

t seems that the bride gets pretty much all of the focus of the wedding. After all, it's her day, right? In the grand scheme of all things to do with a wedding, the groom and often, the look for the groom and his groomsmen tend get relegated to the typical black tuxedo and can often be considered an after thought or just another "to do" that has to be done. Well for the record, it is his day as well and shouldn't the groom get a little style attention, too? Well, not so fast! The groom does deserve a little extra attention and these days there are far more choices and options than ever before and I am not just talking about colored vests, ties and pocket squares. Of course those certainly are options for adding a great pop of color to an otherwise plain tuxedo. Now before I get too far, I want to point out that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the classic, black tuxedo and if that is the look
Now I am not, repeat, not talking about those powder blue tuxes with ruffles of the 1970's. While yes, you may be able to find such a vintage horror story at a costume shop, these are, thankfully, much more pleasing to the eye and, when fitted correctly, will make you look absolutely fabulous and right on point. More and more we are seeing the classic tux being traded for a smarter, better lined and styled version. In some instances, the tux is being shed all together for an incredibly handsome, contemporary suit. These tuxedos and suits come in many different styles, colors and materials which allow you to express yourself and your style in such a way that will compliment and may even enhance the look of your wedding. So why should the bride have all the fun of dressing up? Look your absolute best while you can express your personal style! Talk to your tuxedo shop or menswear store and see for yourself just how much fun and style you can put into your look and your groomsmen's look.^

Amanda Miller y Curtis Cole PHOTOGRAPHY BY

STORY BY Jenny George Photography by Jami Leavitt

ust when you think you have a good handle on life, travelling down a certain path, in a certain mind set, life has a way of changing your perspective in a heartbeat. Amanda and Curtis had been in a committed relationship for 6 years, and after 4 children, two from Curtis' previous marriage, having a wedding really wasn't foremost on their minds. Oh they toyed with the notion of getting married or eloping after their youngest was born, but it wasn't until life gave them a little wake up call that their perspective would change and have Amanda feeling the importance of making their love and relationship, officially, a marriage. In January 2013, Curtis had to undergo emergency surgery. This frightened Amanda to her very core and rightfully so. The love of her life and father of her children had been in danger. As Curtis was recovering, approximately two weeks after surgery, Amanda confided in him that "we should get married on May 25th." The 25th of May is a very special date as this was anniversary date of Amanda's grandparents. With this sweet and heartfelt request, Curtis agreed and the date was set. Amanda and Curtis describe themselves as "not traditional people by any means."
142 BridalifeStyle Magazine Fall/Winter 2014 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM
So it followed that their wedding wouldn't be so traditional either. Wanting to keep things as simple as possible, yet beautiful, but staying true to their non traditional, nerdy ways, was a priority. Their first "big, romantic date" was in Centennial Park and "it seemed too good of an idea not to have it there." Amanda said. This was to be a celebration of the life they both had built together as well as the blessings that would continue to come in their lives. So the vibe would be to keep it more like a party without getting too mired down in decorations and details. Besides, the true beauty and personality of both the wedding and reception sites shouldn't be covered up. The main focus for them really, was to have an enjoyable and relaxed, fun day with their children and loved ones. But that didn't mean there wouldn't be personal touches that were special to them. Amanda loves arts and crafts so she took on the task of creating most of the decorations for the wedding as well as floral arrangements with the assistance of her mother and bridesmaids. The wedding cakes would be non traditional as well since neither Amanda or Curtis particularly care for wedding cake. Amanda created a three tiered, Rice Crispy Treat cake for Curtis "because he is such a sucker for those." Amanda chose the pink sprinkled doughnuts because they are a favorite of hers and all of her girls. "Plus I wanted them to look as sinful and pretty as the Homer Simpson doughnuts." The reception, held at The Phoenix, was very new to them but fit their non traditional tastes as well as their caffeine addiction. Loving the atmosphere and decor such as the book display, plus a bonus of a satirical Star Wars paintings on display at the time, made this the perfect spot. Amanda recalls waking up the morning of her wedding "incredibly stressed." "However after Curtis and I went out for brunch and mimosas, I was much better." She recalls just how fast this day went by, wishing for a time machine "just so I can watch as a spectator." "To say it was the most beautiful I had felt is an understatement." Amanda continues "I felt movie star glamorous and the feeling of love that I was bubbling over with, for my husband, our kids and our loved ones, made the day glow and vibrate with happiness."^

paghetti and meatballs is arguably one of the most basic of Italian cuisines, yet every Italian family seems to have a treasured family heirloom recipe that has been passed down for generations. Lucky for us, the chef at Interurban Catering has generously shared his recipe with us! And after the spaghetti dinner, take those meat balls and make meatball subs for lunch next day! Let me tell ya... those meatballs are the best I have ever had! Bon Appétit! ^
Spaghetti and meat balls Tomato Sauce
MEATBALLS

Christine Keliehor
^Adam Visosky
WEDDING DATE: October 25, 2014
To Christine, it was just another weekend in October of 2010. A typical fall weekend at Texas Tech University, when she and her Theta sorority girlfriends were meeting a group of people prior to a concert hosted by the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Christine recalls “I hadn’t been there too long before I spotted Adam.” The two immediately hit it off and three years later, on the 21st of November, Adam announced a huge surprise. “Pack your bags! We are going to New York City!” At first, she didn’t believe him until he showed her the tickets. On the first afternoon in New York City, Adam had a white horse and carriage waiting to take them through Central Park. On their romantic journey, the carriage just happened to casually stop by a fountain to take some pictures. “Then came the moment of my dreams!” she recalls. “A romantic proposal in Central Park where a photographer and videographer captured it all.” “It was perfect!” So it will be, on the 25th of October, 2014, four years after they met, on just another fall weekend at Texas Tech University, Christine and Adam will tie the knot in Mansfield, TX. In a wedding surrounded by the love of seven bridesmaids, seven groomsmen, three flower girls, one ring bearer, as well as friends and family who love them, it will be perfect. Van Tran ^ Tung Nguyen WEDDING DATE: November 22, 2014
Van met Tung at church when they were just 9 years old. Van wasn’t terribly impressed with him when they first met because she thought “he was just another pesky boy.” As the two grew, so developed a great friendship and “things fell into place.” Their relationship blossomed and the time had come for Tung to decide to pop the question. Van recalls that “Tung tricked me when he took me to see Christmas lights in the park we always go to.” There, in lights “Will you marry me?” however Van was a bit disappointed when Tung played as if that was just a coincidence. It would be later that night when Van would get the full force of the proposal with a ring hidden in her favorite book. She of course, said yes and on the 22nd of November, 2014, Van and Tung will be wed with five bridesmaids, six groomsmen, and 500+ of their friends and family in the very same church, St. Andrew Dung-Lac Catholic Church, where, at 9 years old, Van met whom she thought was just “another pesky boy” and who would turn out to be the love of her life. The reception will be held shortly thereafter where the two went to prom at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

"Never be afraid to ask for help or let anyone talk you out of your decisions!" Great advice that Chandra candidly shares about her wedding. It's that spark and fire that helped her vision of a whimsical and colorful wedding filled with purple, jade, orange and fuchsia come to life. It was while working at Wal-Mart that the two would meet, but it would be 3 years before they would really even talk to each other. Chandra recalls that "our love grew from there." On their first trip to Mexico together, the young couple would take romantic walks on the beach every night and it was on the third night that Kyle would ask that magical question. The two stopped, Kyle dropped to one knee and asked Chandra to be his bride. Can you just imagine a more perfect and romantic setting in which to say yes? We didn't think so either! And so it would be on a beautiful and typically windy Oklahoma day, just outside the Glenpool Conference Center, by the fountains, that Chandra and Kyle would say their vows and begin their new life, together. This wedding was full of fun and a few surprises as Chandra recalls the moment when her "sweet family even did a flash mob to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." Something that she knows she will never forget and a memory she will forever cherish. It is those memories, of family and friends, sharing and celebrating the love of two people that makes a wedding so very special!

Laske Images On a trip to Paris in September of 2012, Tim would do something special. He gave Minh a lock to place on the Love Lock Bridge. It would be a year later that they would travel back to Paris. There, they found the lock he gave her, still locked on the bridge and it was at this moment that Tim would propose to Minh and make her dream come true. Both business professionals, Minh was introduced to Tim through her mother and sister who urged him to meet her during a business transaction. Minh and Tim both wanted a simple, yet elegant wedding that hinted at their love of travel. The wedding was to be a focus on family and friends, so keeping the décor understated, while giving an air of sophistication was part of the vision. The wedding day, Minh recalls, was exactly what they wanted. It was a beautiful, sunny day that wasn’t overwhelmingly hot and the picture perfect setting at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Oklahoma City lent the perfect amount of gravitas to what would be a remarkably warm and love filled day. “You could sense the love from everyone there!” Minh recalls. She had great support from family and friends to make her day happen. Minh also recalls that “you need a solid team to get the work done!” Her “team” made up of friends and family created the reception look at Red Prime. From the beautiful blinged curly willow branches dressed with beautiful hydrangeas to the subtle, candlelit centerpieces along with a touch of shimmer from the rain curtain behind the exquisite wedding cake, this event brought Minh’s style and vision to life. Always fun was the candy bar with beautiful treats of candies in the wedding colors as well as fabulous custom cookies created by her sister. “Everyone was just so happy to witness our marriage.” “Mimosas, tears and hugs could be found every which way I turned!”

Bailey Bond ^Trevor Parks June 14, 2014
Meeting the person whom you will spend the rest of your life with in high school does not always translate into high school sweethearts. So it was with Bailey & Trevor. For it wouldn't be until their sophomore year while attending Oklahoma State University that they would begin dating and their relationship would begin to blossom. Every proposal is not alike. Bailey & Trevor are fairly laid back people and his proposal followed suit. Trevor actually proposed in the changing room at Drysdales, which was also the location of their first date. So it followed that they would both like a laid back and low key wedding that reflected who they were, their personalities and most of all, their relationship. But Bailey recalls "there was a lot of stress leading up to the day, but once it came, we just closed our eyes and hung on for the ride." We all try to make things work perfectly. It is our very nature as humans. But sometimes, as Bailey would learn, you just have to run with it. She tells us that "No matter how hard you try, it will never be perfect. But no one ever remembers the perfect wedding." But in our opinion, Bailey's wedding, as with most weddings, was perfect because it was filled with the love they share and the love of family & friends. But we think Bailey said it best. "It was the best day of our lives!"

Madisen Burgess ^ Darren Sainz

Sparkle, leopard and glam! That was the order of the day for Madisen’s vision of her wedding and in her words, “not many people can have neon green, leopard, purple and sparkle in the same wedding - but we made it work!” It was with this vision, the goal of incorporating her and Darren’s personalities, became a reality. “My vision was all about transforming my venue to a glamorous wedding with my style.” Quite likely, nothing like what was about to come ever went through Madisen’s and Darren’s minds when they met in May of 2010 at Sooner Corral and danced the night away. The coming struggles certainly weren’t on their minds when Darren proposed in Venice, Italy while on a family vacation. On their last day in Italy, Darren and Madisen’s father insisted on a gondola ride. “Nearing the end, we approached the Lover’s Bridge. I felt the gondola shake and saw my husband down on one knee.” “As he popped the question, my mom said “Did I just hear the “M” word?” Madisen, of course, said yes! But this young couple was about to face a huge challenge before they were even to be married. That challenge would come through nature’s wrath in the ominous form of a funnel cloud! After losing their house in the May 2013 tornados in central Oklahoma, Madisen feared that they would never be able to pull this wedding off. But this is Oklahoma and that Oklahoman spirit is strong. With the assistance of her wedding coordinator helping pull together the resources and vendors, Madisen’s dream became a reality. It was quite evident to Madisen that “no matter how much you plan or pay, things will go wrong.” She adds. “But only you (the bride) will know. So enjoy the day and don’t stress. It goes by way too fast.” “Oh and Mom’s always right! :)” “When I first stepped into the room at the Farmer’s Market, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I started crying immediately because my dream wedding had come true, better than I imagined.” “My wedding day was fabulous!” Madisen exclaims! “It was so exciting from the moment we woke up, to getting ready, to taking pictures, walking down the aisle, the moment my daddy and my husband saw me in my dress.” “Partying the night away, it went by way too fast and I wish I could relive it forever.” She adds, “I felt like an absolute princess!”

Chelsea and Casey tied the knot on February 1, 2014 in a wedding “full of joy and laughter,” celebrating their new life together with family and friends in what she describes as a special time that was truly a dream. The wedding, a classic, simple and elegant affair, which Chelsea loves, was the pinnacle of their lives together which began when they were very young. As a matter of fact, Chelsea and Casey went to school together their entire lives. But, as so often happens after high school, the two went in different directions; but would eventually reconnect in 2012 on election day! The day Casey proposed, he had a plan. An entire day’s plan actually. Taking Chelsea to brunch and a night out on the town which included seeing the play “Wicked” and an elegant dinner on top of Oklahoma City at Vast. It was this day, while strolling through the Myriad Gardens that he would ask her to be his bride capturing the event with a photographer waiting in the wings. Chelsea & Casey had 8 bridesmaids, 8 groomsmen, 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearers. She wore an elegant all lace gown with a dramatic high neck designed by Allure Bridals. With Chelsea's love of elegance that simplicity brings, she knew she wanted the wedding to be classic. Planning a wedding taught Chelsea what is really important. She tells us that, “This day is meant to be cherished!” She adds, “Let go of the worries and enjoy those around you. Your family & friends will remember the look of joy on your face, not what kind of table cloth you chose.
