Oklahoma's NBA team, the Oklahoma City Thunder's Cheerleader, Kelsey Williams, tied the knot with her long time boyfriend this year. You can see her fabulous wedding in the Real Wedding Feature in this issue. It was definitely a highlight of her life, and being aired on TV with TLC's Randy to the Rescue certainly was icing on the cake! But, there was also a low point this year with the Houston Rockets controversy that she had to overcome. And like any strong Oklahoma woman, overcome she did! In her interview with BridalifeStyle she revealed that while she knows she is very active, eats healthy, there was that few seconds of self doubt that popped in during this ordeal. However, she is here now, more confident than ever, knowing she is healthy and beautiful! We couldn't agree more! So for the first time in BridalifeStyle history, we have a beautiful real bride on the cover! Here, Kelsey is donning a couture, custom designed headpiece and tulle shaw by Bridal Couture Girls, jewelry by

ighting is probably the last thing on your mind as you plan your wedding. But it actually can be one of the most important things which can have a major impact on your decor and create an unforgettable experience. Just as the quality and presentation of the food is a feast, proper lighting is the feast for the eyes. So much more than eye candy, proper lighting can breath the life into your decor that you dreamed of. So where do you begin? There are so many creative ways to incorporate lighting into your decor, from the basic color up lights, to specialty vintage light bulbs, literally, the sky is the limit! And it is also a great way to incorporate floral elements into your decor. It is a great idea to visit with a professional lighting company. They will have the know how, tools and imagination to bring your ideas and thoughts to life. Whether you are a flower person or not so much, floral is a huge part of a wedding. Lighting can be a very creative way to add that element of wow, style and create another dimension to your guest's experience. Event lighting experts can create patterns with light that washes over a wall, ceiling or both, with an abstract floral pattern, bringing the flowers from the tables onto walls and/or

ceiling; creating an ambience that will amaze and enhance the look and feel of your event. Another often over looked lighting option that is truly essential to your decor is pin lighting. They say good things come in small packages, and these little lights are exactly that. They can be installed and designed to light up the centerpieces on your reception tables or virtually anywhere you have something that should be highlighted. It completely transforms the decor with that added layer of texture. Go from flat and drab to totally fab with these simply amazing, affordable and often forgotten details! Weddings are about celebration, family and creating wonderful, poignant memories. With creative event lighting, it can take your celebration to the next level and make your wedding one to remember for both you and your guests! So dream big, and let the lighting experts add that next dimension to you wedding decor. You will absolutely love it! ^

STYLE

notes

This urban twist on a traditional white wedding has all the right elements to make a bold statement without sacrificing style. It starts with the right contemporary urban venue. When contrasted with exposed brick and concrete, the traditional florals are even more romantic. The soft texture of white tulle, used on everything from the invitations to the veil, is the perfect bridge between modern and elegance. A modern invitation, whose geo theme is carried onto the day of paper, helps establish a contemporary theme for this event. But not going overboard on the trendy details keeps the overall look both interesting and classic. This same refreshing restraint is exercised in an expertly beautiful cake whose embellishments are perfectly balanced, neither under nor over decorated. Of course, the stand out feature of this inspiration is the opulent florals. The centerpiece's florals ore lush with color and texture . They are emphasized with stunning height and beautiful crystal chandeliers that are another modern twist on a traditionally glamorous accent. From the perfectly proportioned centerpieces and mounding floral garland on the table, to the adorable boutonniere, the organic beauty of the right flowers really do make the room come alive.

New Things

by Jamie Chen photos courtesy of WedPics.com

I

discovered this awesome wedding photo sharing app/website when I attended a friend's wedding. Both the bride and groom who has most her friends and family from another state felt that this will really help bring everyone together. After hands on experiencing this photo sharing service, I decided this is a service everyone should know! I had the opportunity to interview the CEO of WedPics, Justin Miller, and he shared his vision with me. WedPics was originally an event photo sharing app under the name Deja Mi, but when he saw the impact this app/website can have on weddings, WedPics was formed to focus primarily on weddings. WedPics is a free, fun and easy way of sharing photos that were taken by your guests. People can either take photos just with their phone or use a standard camera. Even if your wedding site has no cell coverage, people can upload later when they have internet access. Justin pointed out that they specifically designed the interface to be easy and familiar. The website might have a Facebook photo app feel, and the phone app has an Instagram feel. And speaking from first hand esperience, there was no learning curve for me at all. As a bride, you get to create an event, which will give your wedding a wedding ID that you can share with all your guests. So everyone that your share this code with can upload to your album immediately. It has several albums, from showers, rehearsal dinners, to reception, and even the honeymoon, everything is thought of. As your guests upload photos to the album, everyone, including you can "heart" each photo and mark your favorite shots. You can even share directly to a social media of your choice. Justin also shared with me that a new feature is coming out very soon! They have teamed up with picture.com and will be able to allow users to make beautiful printed photo albums! This app successfully replaces the old box cameras at weddings. It allows all your guests to take photos at your event and there are no cameras to collect and no film to develop. So give it a try! Head over to WedPics.com and let the fun begin!

Beauty Secrets... by Roy Groat Jr.

W

e had the opportunity to interview the fabulous team of Primp Hair and Makeup Studio, Heather Valentine (hair stylist) and Ashlee Bivins (makeup artist). And they shared with us some tips when searching for professional hair and makeup artists.

What is the advantage of having my hair and makeup professionally done?

There are many, but the most important is the experience a makeup artist and hair stylist who specialize in weddings and events have. We have been honored to be a part of hundreds of weddings and events and know the process to, not only make your hair and makeup last all day, but to also make it seamless and fun! Professionals have the advantage of knowing how to achieve gorgeous hair and makeup that looks great in person and in pictures. Cameras capture details from all angles. As wedding stylists, we know how to finish the style perfectly and flawlessly. Is there a difference between makeup I purchase at the store and what you use?

Yes, I use all pro products, across several different brands. Pro products are specially formulated to look exactly the same in person as they do in print or on film. Many brands require the artist to apply for a pro membership, these products are not available to purchase by a client. Also, most counter artists are only trained in that counter's product line, whereas a pro artist has a experience in many product lines. Isn’t it expensive to have pro hair and makeup at my event?

Many brides choose to take on DIY on several aspects of the wedding, hair and makeup should not be one of them. This is your wedding day! You will be in a majority of the photos and seeing friends and family you haven't seen in years! Pro hair and makeup should be at the top of your vendor list. The value is priceless! Is there anything I should do to prepare for my consultation?

It is a good idea to bring a photo of hair and makeup you'd like to replicate on the wedding day. If you don't have an idea if what you'd like to do, creating a custom look is what a pro hairstylist and makeup artist are trained to accomplish. Knowing a few details is also a good idea:

your ready by time, your getting ready location and approximately how many ladies you'd liked made up.

If I hire professional hair & makeup artists, what do I need to provide on the day of my event?

We travel to your getting ready location with our full kits, so the only thing we need is adequate lighting (natural is best), room for a hair and makeup chair and a table or counter to set out our tools. Can you come to me or do I need to come to you?

We have a beautifully lit and roomy studio location in downtown Tulsa, where we can do hair and makeup on the wedding day. We can also come to you, if you'd prefer. Often times the venue will not allow the bridal party to arrive until after we need to start the hair and makeup process, in this event, our studio is a perfect option! Is there a difference between a professional makeup person and the person at the makeup counter at the department store? What is the difference?

The last thing you'd want to do is go to the mall on your wedding day. If a makeup artist at a makeup counter is approached by a customer, while applying your wedding day makeup, they are required to step away and help the customer. Your 45 minute makeup application could end up taking over 1.5 hours! I have seen bridal parties run out of the mall in order to make it to the ceremony, on time. Not to mention, a Saturday at the mall could be busy and contribute to unwanted wedding day stress. Will my hair hold up through my wedding and is there anything I can do to help keep it perfect?

Communication with an experienced wedding stylist is key. The general rule has been to start with "1 day dirty" hair. This rule holds true in many situations; however, all rules have exceptions! Depending on the desired style and hair type, a bride's preparations will differ. Healthy hair definitely styles best so do not skip the regular trim. A trial is a great way to make sure your hairstyle has lasting power! ^

hen the year comes to its end,

the time is magical. But so much more was in store for Bridget than celebrating Christmas, the end of a year and the promise of a new year. Awash with the spectacle that is the Holiday season in Oklahoma, Colt had some magic of his own on his mind. While visiting the City Park’s Holiday Lights in Yukon, OK, Bridget and Colt were taking in the warm glow of the wonderful vignettes wrapped in light. After a while, they were able to park and fully immerse themselves in the glowing wonder of the park as the two of them strolled together along the banks of the pond. It was there, amidst the sparkle of millions of tiny specs of light that Colt knelt down and asked Bridget to be his wife. It was in that spark of a moment, rays of light shimmering on the pond as if in impatient anticipation of her answer, she said yes! It would be this magic moment that would then become the feeling and theme of their winter wonderland wedding. It was decided that their reception would be in a place that had a rustic, yet classic, timeless feel. The historic, English Tudor design of Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club was a perfect fit. With its large wooden beams and huge, roaring fireplace, the feeling of the country was palpable. Add to this, the trees and snow covered décor that incorporated pine cones the

couple had collected from their favorite family vacation spot in Lake Tahoe, NV, the stage was set for the inspired magic of that wonderful proposal night a year earlier, to be a central character in their wedding reception. As Bridget hugged her mom, leaving the home of her childhood, for the church, she realized that “the big moment” was upon her. Suddenly those anxious nerves arrived. Just as with the old year, she was closing out a chapter of her life and was starting down the path of her new life, like a new year. Emotions ran high as the crescendo of music filled every nook and cranny in the church and in everyone’s hearts. As the church doors opened up, everyone laid eyes on Bridget for the first time in her gorgeous bridal gown from Moe with Bridal Maison. But as exciting and wondrous as that was, it was the moment that Bridget and Colt, her soon to be husband, locked eyes that took center stage for Bridget. It was as if the entire church was empty, without a single sound. Like time had somehow come to a crawl. In these precious moments, Bridget knew that all of this, the planning, the decisions, the craziness of it all, it all came down to the two of them making a lifetime commitment to each other. For Bridget, this day was perfect in every way, from top to bottom. A day filled with all the magic, joy and celebration of family and a love that had been the beginning of their world together.^

CAKE

Cake's Meow The

Enhance The Cake with Flowers

T

by Jenny Geoarge florals by Tony Foss Flowers photo by J Hodges Photography

here is little doubt that the wedding cake is one of the key icons of every wedding. People marvel over its design and savor the sweet goodness that it holds in store when it showers your guests, slice by slice; after you and your new husband savor the sweet cake cutting tradition together. While this description of a blissful moment is indeed lovely, all too often is this wonderful bastion of the wedding and the table on which it is set, are left, what some would call, a little lacking. How can this be corrected you may be asking? Even if you are not asking, we suggest the addition of fresh florals to your wedding cake and cake table. Even spectacular works of art by the best cake artist in the world can be ramped up a notch or two by giving that work of art a proper setting of floral around it Even the simplest cake designs can benefit from a few well places floral pieces on the cake itself and the table on which it is presented. By the way, it doesn't always have to be a flower. There are scores of floral items that can be integrated into your cake that will wow.

36 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

Remember to discuss these possibilities with your floral designer and share the cake design with them. The cake and cake table is an integral part of your over all decor and there is no reason to leave it out of your decor plans. By including it in your overall design, your reception will have an even more polished, cohesive look that you will be proud of and enjoy.

TAHITI

Honeymoon to Paradise:

the islands of

by Roy Groat Jr. photos courtesy of Stephanie Cannon

S

ometimes you just wonder what it would be like to be a travel agent, especially when Stephanie Cannon with Honeymoons Designed comes back from a "work" trip with such gorgeous photos. We had the pleasure of speaking with her about her fabulous trip, all in the name of making sure you are well taken care of...of course! What is typically included in a resort destination?

Inclusions will vary depending on how you book your travel to Tahiti. Generally we can arrange and package your flights (international and inter-island), transfers via the best mode possible, hotel(s), tours and other activities, and even add on meal plans at the resorts.

Are there any other fees outside of the hotel and travel charges?

There are typically some additional charges that cannot be added to your travel package, such as local hotel taxes. In addition, none of the resorts include alcoholic drinks in their meal plans, so that would be an additional charge. Many also charge for internet access and/or daily resort fee.

What kinds of activities does the resort have available?

Most resorts offer a wide variety of complimentary activities and amenities such as snorkeling from the beach or your over water bungalow, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, hat making classes, pareo tying demonstrations, other cultural type activities and much more.

54 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

What is the weather typically like?

Tahiti is south of the equator which means their seasons are opposite of ours. However, it is a very warm, mild climate with temperatures year round in the 70s and 80s. Their summer (our winter) is typically more humid and may have more periods of rain. What we find is that when it rains, it’s not raining in all of French Polynesia but only in an area. With the tropics these are typically like tropical showers, they blow out as quickly as they blow in.

Are there places to go shopping?

There are shopping areas on several of the islands. The most popular islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora all have shopping available. The capital city of Papeete (on Tahiti) has the most extensive offerings with local markets, downtown shops with local crafts. Shopping is not as we know it though. All are small, boutique shops or open air markets, not large shopping complexes or malls. One of the most

popular souvenirs are Tahitian Pearls. You can virtually find them everywhere and they are stunning. Tip: As you would do with any jewelry (or gemstone) learn about the qualities to look for (similar to the 4Cs of diamonds) and be sure it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

What is the quality of the accommodations? Do the resorts go by the star ratings or is there a rating system to see the quality of the resort?

The quality of the accommodations varies throughout the islands, from Bed & Breakfast types to 5-star luxury resorts. There are definitely options available for every taste. The most popular tend to be the 3 to 5 star resort-style properties. These offer amenities that we are accustomed to such as multiple restaurants, bars, pools, activities, spa, etc. However, the resorts themselves are nothing like the “mega resorts we see in Mexico and the Caribbean. Most are small with as few as 30 bungalows or as many as 250 rooms and bungalows. With various islands and accommodations available, it is best to work with a travel professional who specializes in travel to the Islands of Tahiti to ensure that you select the best option for you and the best overall value for you money. There is more to this amazing destination than booking a hotel.

Most of these resorts are in different countries. Are the resorts safe? The islands of Tahiti are also known as French Polynesia. They have both a French and Polynesian influence (as the name

r ^

Find Them Now

Honeymoons Designed......page 56 Michelle's Destinations Unlimited......page 65

suggests). The resorts are very safe. More so than some I have visited in other parts of the world. Even walking in town, driving around the island and exploring various areas are very safe. As with any destination, you should always be aware of your surroundings and do not intentionally put yourself in a precarious situation.

What sets this destination apart from the typical Caribbean/Mexico destination?

There are some similarities, but also many differences. I would not compare anything in Tahiti to the Caribbean other than crystal blue water, sand and hotels. The resort style, cuisine offered, culture, language and activities are quite different. Tahiti (and more specifically Bora Bora) is known for their beach and over water bungalows that you will not find anywhere in the Caribbean or Mexico. Even the larger resorts are not nearly the size of some in the Caribbean or Mexico. Tahiti resorts tend to be more intimate, boutique style than other destinations. And I think the most amazing aspect of this destination besides the culture, people and cuisine are the spectacular views. There is no other destination like it and it is definitely a must see for those who love to travel. Ready for Tahiti? Relationship 101 ^

Life, Love, & Learning To Embrace

Change by Roy Groat Jr.

I

t has been said that there is only one constant in the universe and that constant is change. One day life can seem fantastic and the next, you are picking up the pieces of your life wondering what the heck just happened. There is absolutely no question that events are going to occur in your life that will totally disrupt the world as you knew it. Just ask the good folks in Moore, OK about the change that literally blew through their lives this past May, and you will get a first hand look at change and how they have embraced the goodness that came of total disaster. But how do you embrace change? Change, uncertainty, it's simply frightening. Few of us like change and I can say, with a clear conscience, I am not a fan! But one thing I have noticed, and found for myself, even in the most catastrophic event, the opportunity to strengthen your mind, soul and most definitely, your relationship together, often presents itself in ways you can never imagine. It is often the last thing you would have wanted but like a pothole, BAM! You have hit it. You may have tried to avoid it but there it is and now change is upon you. As with virtually everything in this life, there are a few basics that can help you better understand the change that has come or is about to come to you. Keeping these things in mind may just help you ride out life's storms and pitfalls and perhaps, come out a bit better on the other side. First of all, stay calm. When things happen, especially big things in life that come upon you quickly, it tends to trigger the "fight or flight" mechanism in all of us. This is that first, instinctual instruction hard wired in all of us to protect ourselves. It is in this mode, a mode of panic, that we as reasonable people make the worst possible

56 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

decisions. It is a fact that most of the worst decisions we make in life are ones that are made too quickly or irrationally. Most changes in our lives that come our way do so at a pace where we have the opportunity to look at most of the possible outcomes. Knowing this, take a deep breath and allow yourself some time to take it in. While this amount of time ranges from person to person, a few hours to a few days may be just the prescription for a calm, rational decision. After all, that new job opportunity that requires you to move across the country, often has a grace period for you to think it over. Quietly look at all the options to make sure that no matter what decision you make, you have the maximum amount of information to walk into the future confidently and calmly. Plan your way through uncertain times. One of the most stressful things in life is to simply float like a feather on the wind. Creating a plan helps you remain calm through situations because you already know the best option for a particular situation. Discuss this plan together and make sure you are both on the same page. This is especially true of emergency situations. If a tornado comes, having a plan of what you are going to do takes most of the questions out of the situation and gives you the time to put that plan in action. You automatically know what needs to happen because you have calmly planned out what to do. Just as with a major car repair, you can't plan for a transmission to fail but you can have money put aside or have purchased an extended warranty for just such a scenario. Knowledge becomes power and in uncertain times or emergencies, that knowledge can literally and figuratively save you. Keeping your sense of humor in a tough situation is not always easy. But remembering, that in the vast scheme of things, almost every situation is frothed with humor. Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself or see the lighter side of a situation. Humor is one of the most powerful of our mind's ability to defend itself from overly stressful situations. Don't forget to remain friends. Remember, it is all too likely that your partner is experiencing similar fear and stresses as you are to a given situation. Some situations stress the daylights out of us and that can cause tensions to rise. It is typical of most humans, when fully stressed, that patience gets thin, tempers get short, and a flare up is almost inevitable. But go back to the first thing of remaining calm and think to yourself who or what you are really mad at. Most often, you will find it is the situation and not the person. Taking this out on your partner leads to hurtful things being said that are difficult to take back, if at all. The world and times we live in are most uncertain and change in our lives is inevitable and, quite frankly, resistance is futile. It is within these times, whether a job change, frightening diagnosis, a new baby or any of a thousand and one things, you can find the strength together and no longer fear uncertainty. By keeping calm, having a plan, holding on to your sense of humor and remembering to remain friends, you increase your odds of positive outcomes. Yes, change can be frightening. It can also be exciting. Don't be afraid of the tears and the laughter. But no matter what, turn to each other. Share your thoughts and feelings with each other. It's okay. Try not to forget that he or she may be just as frightened, worried, excited, etc, as you are. You can embrace change, together. Hold on to your love and each other. While the world may look a bit different on the other side of that change, you can make it through, together.^

notes

The opulence of the 20's is elegant, romantic and oh, so back. It allows you to play with vintage chic, but without any of the shabby. Get this look with lots of sparkle and metallics. From cut crystal glasses to the glided cake, take every opportunity to shine! Texture and geometry are important in achieving the deco look. In this luxe tablescape, you see sequinned linens layered over satin on the table. Our favorite texture pairing here are the feathers in the bouquet! Often, vintage romance is portrayed in soft hues, but don't be afraid to use color to play up the drama with the deco look as we did here with the bold purples florals and royal blue sequined linen. Used sparingly, they provide a strong contrast to emphasize the glamour!

Traditions^

Wedding Floral Traditions by Jenny George

^Tips

Don't Rain on My Parade - Most often bouquets arrive in a vases of water to preserve freshness. Be sure, when removing them, to have a towel or paper towels handy to absorb the water on the stems. This will prevent water stains from putting a damper on those lovely dresses.

Brides have traditionally carried fresh flowers and/ or herbs as it was believed that the various pungent fragrances would help to thwart off evil spirits, sickness and ill fortune. Early Greek bridal bouquets would contain ivy to symbolize fidelity and never ending love. Signifying fertility, brides in ancient Roman times would hold bunches of herbs beneath their veils. One tradition dating back to the Victorian age is the bouquet toss. In those times, the bride, as she left, would toss the bouquet to her friend and pass on the good fortune. In today's world the bouquet toss symbolizes the receiver or catcher will be the next single lady to get married. Speaking of Victorian times, people were absolutely fascinated with meanings behind the blooms. Especially the wedding rose which represented true love.

Floral

Etiquette^

ETIQUETTE

by J.C. Scott photo by Colorband PhotoArtisans floral by Foster's Flowers & Interiors

F

lowers and etiquette may not be the first combination that comes to mind when you begin planning your wedding. These days, changing roles and times can often confuse the wedding planning process. Here are a few traditions as they relate the etiquette of the wedding flowers that can help guide you and your family.

Dollars & Sense:

One question that comes up often relates to the tradition of financial responsibility. Traditionally, the bride's family is responsible for the maid or matron of honor's flowers as well as the bridesmaids, flower girl and corsages and boutonnières for the bride's family. Additionally, the bride is responsible for the church/ ceremony location and reception floral decor as well.

The groom's side is traditionally responsible for the bride's bouquet as a gift to her as well as her going away corsage. The groom's side is also responsible for boutonnières for the groom, the best man and his groomsmen as well as ushers. He is also typically responsible for boutonnieres and corsages for the groom's family. The groom's family is also traditionally responsible for floral decor at the rehearsal dinner.

Who Gets What?

Typically, the bride has the largest bouquet (of course, we all knew THAT! Right?). Likewise the groom will wear the fanciest or more distinguished of the boutonnières. But did you know that the maid/matron of honor should have a bouquet that is nicer than the bridesmaids but less elaborate than the bride's? Similarly the best man should have a fancier flower than the groomsmen. Both bridesmaids bouquets and groomsmen's boutonnières, as well as the usher's will be of similar design and less elaborate. Parents should have elegant corsages and boutonnières but should be more scaled down than those of the bride and groom. It is also a nice touch to provide a small corsage or boutonnière to those manning the guest book, performing or giving a reading. This offering lets those people know that not only are you thinking of them but they are appreciated. While it is not necessary to provide a corsage or boutonnière for the officiate, if this person is a family friend or carries significant meaning for you, a flower would not go amiss here.

Real Wedding^

Kelsey Self & Cole Williams

03.23.2013

F

or Kelsey, her dream wedding was to be the party of the year. Making this day even sweeter is the reality that she has known Cole since 8th grade when he snuck a kiss while taking a picture. Growing into best friends, right up and into college, the time finally was right for them to find out they were meant for each other. Now Kelsey is a girl that is vibrant and full of life. A Thunder Girl, she knows how to bring energy and excitement to a room. Her wedding reception was no different. Her goal in mind was to simply have a great time with her family and friends; letting them take away an experience they would soon not forget. Inspired by the notion of a Parisian Carnival, this theme was articulately brought throughout the wedding from the black and white striped stationery and decor to the umbrellas, hung upside down from the ceiling of the Petroleum Club, above the dance floor creating a unique and inviting spot for guests to "bust a move." Even more umbrellas were incorporated along with hot air balloons and trees right into the centerpieces. The addition of 4 separate photo stations gave ample opportunity for the guests to show off their fun side. Cole and Kelsey's ceremony, held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church downtown, held a special place for Kelsey as her parents were married there and she really loved the idea of sharing

that very special bond with them. Kelsey looked stunning in her Jesus Piero gown and she simply lit up the room. No doubt some of the magic of having found her dress with the talented assistance of Randy Fenoli when he brought his show, Randy To The Rescue to Oklahoma City earlier in the year, added to the bright gleam of happiness that fell upon her face. With the large size and floor to ceiling windows with a spectacular view of Oklahoma City, the Petroleum Club fit the bill for Kelsey. From top to bottom, the florals by Tony Foss were simply spectacular. The massive pieces on the alter helped ground the cavernous sanctuary. While at the reception, the fun and festive florals were a delight. Helping to top off the mood was the magical lighting courtesy of IES (Innovative Event Solutions) which brought the umbrellas to life in a fabulous burst of color. Feeling like movie stars in this grand event, Kelsey recalls that she wishes she could do it all again. The look and feel from beginning to end was exactly the dream and vision Kelsey had planned; and right from the heartfelt moment they first saw each other, this day was the vibrant, magical, bursting with energy day she had dreamed of and truly, the party of the year.

Basics

Budget

^

Flower Power get the most out of your floral budget

F

lowers and floral design, typically, are one of the major characters of the wedding. Whether it is the bouquet, centerpieces or ceremony flowers, a few simple tips and ideas can help you enjoy the botanical beautification of your big day and give delight to you and your guests!

So where do you begin? Think about your wedding and how important flowers are to you and the overall look. Certainly, the more floral and the more intricate the floral designs are, the greater the budget will need to be. Truly, the sky is the limit. However, on average, most weddings in Oklahoma fall into the $15,000 to $40,000 range so spending $15,000 on flowers when your entire wedding budget is $20,000 may not be realistic. Similarly, if you have a larger budget, spending a smaller percentage of the budget on floral may leave your event looking and/or feeling a bit lacking. Setting the budget. If floral has a firm place in your heart, you will want a larger percentage of that budget directed toward flowers. Likewise, if floral is not as big to you, then allocate a smaller percentage. But in general, 10% to 20% of your wedding budget is a solid place to start and most floral professionals can work with this. Don't hide your budget. There is absolutely no reason to keep your budget a secret. It is a total blast to go to the florist and discuss what you want at your wedding. But make sure the floral designer knows what budget you are looking to work within. It downright stinks to discuss tons of wonderful design plans only to find out that the dream that has been created for you is hundreds, if not thousands of dollars outside of what you planned to spend. Florists work with varied budgets all the time so there is no need to keep your budget a secret. In fact, one of the first things you should discuss is what you have or plan to spend. Real or Silk? Today’s silk flowers are amazingly realistic and especially so if they are mixed with real flowers. Does this sound odd to you? It shouldn’t really.

74 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

by J.C. Scott We have seen some absolutely stunning displays that incorporate real and silk. A great example of this is right in this issue’s own “Great Gatsby Themed” inspiration shoot and, when done right, you will be hard pressed to tell which is real and which silk. This is a question that is often missed that can be a time and cost saver. Just be sure to check if the floral designer you have chosen works with silks. Some do not so don’t forget to ask about this possibility.

Flower Availability. One of the most overlooked reasons that can make the floral budget skyrocket is trying to use flowers that are out of season (see the flower box in this issue for flower availability). Let’s say you just adore Peonies but your wedding is in September. In all likelihood, your florist will not receive your flowers until the week of your wedding. Well, Peonies are a springtime flower but your wedding is in the fall so in order to get those flowers, they will have to be imported from another country. So what was once perhaps $4 or $5 a stem is now $10 to $15 a stem. As you can see, this can really put you over budget mighty quick. A good, quality floral designer knows flowers and virtually every flower has a look alike or cousin that may be substituted and still provide a similar look and feel to what you were looking for. Great florists and floral designers are artists and flowers are their medium. They want to create glorious works of art that you will love and that will help beautify your wedding. Sharing your dream and budget information will give them the tools they need to create a stunning design for you.

STYLE

notes

Art Nouveau was a distinctive style of art and decor whose beauty was not diminished by its brief historical influence. It had the most glory in French art and architecture and its romantic effect has a distinctly French, feminine feeling, much more so than it's stylistic cousin, Art Deco, whom it is often confused. This venue is one of a very few examples in the Midwest of this styling. Its unique chapel inspired this romantic tablescape, a modern take on the French Nouveau. Organic colors and themes, luxe layers and textures capture perfectly the most pervasive description of the Art Nouveau style, beautiful.

Floral Decor

T

he place or places that you plan to celebrate your wedding is a big decision. You have thought long and hard about where you want to gather your friends, family and tie the knot, as it were. Chances are the venue you have chosen, whether it is contemporary or vintage, a chapel or vineyard, has a special feeling to you and certainly will sport unique challenges for decorating the space. It is with this in mind that we offer these tips to help you create the best look and greatest impact with your venue and the floral decor that adorns the space. Beware The Ceiling Height It can be very tempting to pull out all the stops and bring magnificent, tall centerpieces to adorn your reception tables. But be careful. Tall centerpieces in a room that has a low ceiling, such as 8 feet or so, can overpower a room like this. Unless you are looking for a jungle effect, centerpieces that are lower and closer to the table help open the room up and allow views of the entire roomscape. Likewise, if you have a magnificent room that has high ceilings, say 12 feet or more, low centerpieces will simply get lost and give an empty feeling to the room no matter how beautiful they are. Opt for taller pieces and don't be afraid to play with varying heights. Your floral designer will probably already be familiar with the space you are using, but it is a good idea to let them know if you are in a space with high or low ceilings. Matching Design & The Venue Some venues are literally universal blank canvases that allow for virtually any decor design. However, places like vineyards, barns or period locales can be a little more tricky. Be sure to take your venue's design and existing decor into account when creating your floral decor. Less Can Be More Let's say you have located a really cool vintage loft space for your reception. It would be a shame to cover up those wonderful exposed brick walls. After all, that is part of the charm of the space and why you fell in love with it right? Instead, choose floral decor that compliments

86 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

& the venue

by Jenny George

the room instead of covering it up. This is a great time to let your personality shine. Sometimes You Need More Let's face it, some venues are just blank, empty canvases. Take a modern hotel or convention center ballroom. They are all pretty much alike and designed to be universal. Here is a great place to literally pull out all the stops and transform the space into something uniquely you. Keep It Real Don't let your personality disappear in the decor. It is totally ok to reflect who you are and what you love in the decoration. In fact, the room should reflect you. This is your wedding after all. If you love palm trees, by golly it is ok to have them at your reception. Recycle What is meant here is that some items can double as church/ceremony decor and reception decor. Those lovely pieces that adorn the alter at the church can easily grace the bridal party head table, entry way or cake table. One caveat however. Be sure you have planned on the labor to move these quickly over to the reception venue once the ceremony is over. Your guests will arrive at the reception soon and you want them to have the full effect. While this option can be a real budget saver, planning and organization is the key here. If you want these pieces at the alter for formal photographs, then it is reasonable to assume that they won't be at the reception when your guests arrive. Be sure to plan for this in the overall decor of your reception. Otherwise have your florist or designated persons not needed for photographs whisk them away to the reception. It is also a great idea to make sure they or someone at the reception knows where those pieces should go.

Cost Effective

Smarter

Ways to

incorporate flowers and still

^Tips

Forgotten Florals - Make sure your flowers arrive before your photographer. These days, formal photos begin well before the wedding and you want to make sure everyone has their bouquets, boutonnières and corsages for the formal pictures.

^

than the average bride

Discuss the option of utilizing silk flowers with your floral designer/florist. Perhaps use them exclusively or mixing silk and real flowers. Check with local florists to purchase your flowers if you choose to do them yourself. Nearly every time, flowers ordered/purchased from reputable florist will be much fresher and prettier than those from a discount store. Don't hesitate to discuss your flower budget. Assuming that a florist is out of your budget could cost you not only money but precious time. In fact, you may find the local florist can create something special for you within your budget. Have an idea of what you like or bring a Pinterest board to show what interests you. Keep in mind however that many things that end up on Pinterest are large budget items.

r

Keep it realistic. Flowers for a ceremony and reception for 400 and a bridal party of 15 people is unlikely to cost $500.

Lindsey Long & Jered Davidson 05.18.2013

I

story: Jenny George photography: Sarah with Holli B Photography

t was a moment Lindsey had been waiting for all of her life. From the moment she saw herself in her wedding dress, complete with all of its regalia, to the beginning of her journey down the aisle toward Jered; this was a day overflowing with raw emotion. But it was at that moment, set in the beautiful, natural lushness of Rosebrook Vineyards in Oklahoma City, Lindsey saw the love of her life waiting for her melting away every worry and fear; feeling like a beautiful princess marrying her prince. The feeling of sheer joy was palpable and Lindsey looked radiant. The sight of seeing her preparing to take that journey down the aisle was something to behold. Truly, a princess, in the dress Monte Durham from TLC's Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta, helped her find and finished with a long, flowing bouquet, a special Tony Foss creation, that literally harkened back to castles, princesses and glass slippers. Few places are as magical as Cinderella’s Castle. While on vacation at Disney World, Jered took this wonderful opportunity to pop the question right inside the Castle. While this was a thunderous surprise to Lindsey, it was not to Jered. With photographer in tow to capture every nuance of this once in a lifetime moment she said yes! After a

romantic dinner in the castle where it, in Disney fashion, was truly a whole new world, fireworks roared and while this was a park tradition, both Lindsey and Jered knew that those fireballs, skyrocketing into the night sky, were the celebrating joy of their two hearts. A vision of a garden party, and being avid wine lovers, Rosebrook Vineyards simply fit the bill for the perfect wedding. Fun, cheerful and bright was felt through the wedding from the iconic turquoise blue of Tiffany & Co to Oklahoma State orange with a dash of hot pink thrown in; Lindsey’s vision, with the able assistance of D’Plazzo Wedding Planners, came to life with a springtime wedding that felt like a glam garden party incorporating their love of wine into both their ceremony and reception. Lindsey’s day was lovely and other than weather issues, her wedding unfolded beautifully, spreading its warmth and joy throughout the vineyard. She does have one piece of advice to every bride: “As long as you have a good attitude and try to be in the moment, your day will go flawlessly.”

beautiful day and perfect weather were just some of the magical blessings Heather and Phillip received on their wedding day. But Heather would find that as her wedding day unfolded, some wonderful, heart felt moments would rise to the surface and become memories that she will never forget. While it is often risky to have an outdoor wedding in Oklahoma, Heather and Phillip really wanted to tie the knot under an open sky. After a dedicated search, the young couple came upon Coles Garden in Oklahoma City. With its magnificent, sprawling gardens, this was the perfect spot to take their vows. Even better, given Oklahoma weather, Coles has a beautiful indoor chapel just in case the skies open up and they could move forward, confident that all the bases were covered. Every bride gathers ideas from many places and one of those places for Heather was Pinterest. She and Phillip knew they wanted the wedding to have a chic feel with sweet and inspiring vintage touches like the old style wagon which carried one

of the ring bearers pulled by another to the sweet, delicate look of Baby's Breath adorning the centerpieces. There, in the presence of all of their family and friends, surrounded by the blooming flowers, bursting with color, the moment simply took Heather's breath away. She notes that people often said she wouldn't have time to enjoy all of the wedding. But Heather made sure to take all of it in; having a "ton of fun" that day, savoring every fleeting moment. But amidst the roller coaster of events and emotions of this day, it was a couple of moments that truly stood out for Heather. They chose to see each other before the ceremony. This is a moment like none other; often filled with nervousness and adrenaline. For Heather, this was no exception. She recalls that, for the first time in years, she was so nervous to see him. Another poignant moment that would forever burn its place in her memory happened later at the reception. Phillip referred to Heather as his wife. At that very moment, both of their hearts swelled with love and happiness and she KNEW she was the luckiest girl in the world.

About

The Beginning

I grew up around weddings my entire life. When I was 4 years old, my mother was a church coordinator and by the time I was 18, she had a flower shop and she gave me the opportunity to study under one of the best floral designers. At her shop, I had a great deal of artistic license and I simply fell in love with floral design and it became a passion which I am able to share with hundreds of brides today.

The Style

I would describe my style as classic with a funky edge. I love to use flowers that people don't see all the time. I love working with textures. By using multiple types of flowers, I create layers. A single type of flower, say, a rose, in my opinion, can be a bit one dimensional. I love to mix various kinds of floral pieces creating layers and making my floral pieces much more textured and three dimensional. I think BIG. I love volume and creating works that speak to you. This is one of those times that size does matter.

The Favorite Flower

Honestly, it is much easier to say what I don't care for which would be virtually any type of daisy or lily. I absolutely love

132 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

peonies, scabiosa & scabiosa pods, anenomies, and quite frankly, flowers that are different from what you typically see.

The Advice

To relax, enjoy your day and realize that if something goes awry, which it will, that at the end of the day, you will be married to the one you love. Just put on your duck's back and let those things just roll off your back.

The Mistake to Avoid

I think making a connection with your vendors is so important. My clients and I form a relationship over the months of planning and that keeps them and their personal style in the forefront of my mind, and makes it easier for me to get their flowers exactly right. Of course you want to maintain your budget, but for flowers, you also need to find a designer that you trust. Respect their style and their body of work, know what you're expecting, find out what flowers you will have, look at pictures with them. I'm very communicative with my girls. There aren't any surprises because I keep them in the loop. I would be devastated if one of my girls were unhappy with their flowers, so I give them lots of details, and make sure they know what's coming on the day of the wedding.

The Beginning

I first learned design at one of Oklahoma City's premier shops, hands on basically and self-taught silk design and fresh flowers. I've had an interior design business also for several years which helps tremendously with latest colors, trends, styles.

The Style

My style is more free form, I like flowing asymmetrical designs rather than fixed or rigid, but I also like the "pave" style which is usually one kind of flower in a low container.

The Favorite Flower

I don't have a favorite flower, I truly love them all, that's why I enjoy mixed arrangements so much.

The Advice

Always come to a florist early, it helps to determine colors, which flowers are in season and which will have to be special order, allows you to make changes if necessary and to have the assurance your flowers will be perfect, and that you will have a rapport with your designer.

The Mistake to Avoid

Under budgeting their flowers. We specialize in helping brides with their budgets we know how to change to a different flower or amounts or design to still achieve your look.

About

The Beginning

I started out in the floral industry in a small shop in Broken Arrow, just after I graduated high school. I was hired to "help out" with keeping the shop clean, taking orders, and cleaning buckets and such. One day the owner needed help filling some orders, so I made a dozen roses. When I finished, the owner was so pleased. She asked me where I learned to design and I replied, "I've never designed flowers before, ever". Then from there I learned everything there is to know about flower processing, selection, proper care, design, and pricing. I started from the bottom, washing buckets, and learned everything about designing from everyday arrangements, funeral pieces, event decor & centerpieces, to weddings. I believe that anyone interested in floral design should start out this way. Because of learning everything about flowers from start to finish, I have gained tremendous respect for the process of floral design.

The Style

My preferred style is ROMANTIC with a European Garden influence. I can however accommodate a range of floral design from vintage, masculine, whimsical, and traditional.

The Favorite Flower

I absolutely love FREESIA! It comes in many shades and I often relate the soft fragrance of these blooms to fresh bouquets. If I can, I use them as much as possible.

136 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

Buona Sarah Photography

Holli B Photography

The Advice

Hire an experienced, professional photographer. Hands down! I always say there is no sense in spending money on a wedding if you don't have good photos to remember it. Brides often ask me about preserving the bridal bouquet and I tell them that, while that can be done, it doesn't capture the beauty quite like a gorgeous portrait of your bouquet. I try remind brides to discuss this need before the wedding day to their photographer.

The Mistake to Avoid

I wouldn't call it a mistake, rather a suggestion of "what to avoid" when choosing wedding flowers. Prior to consulting with a wedding flowers specialist, consider the season for your favorite blooms. There are many flower varieties offered year round, due to international flower farms who experience mother nature's blessings at various times. However, there are still some blooms that suffer over-picking and the crops need time to resurface and grow. It is so important to discuss substitution options for desired flowers as well as color variations so that there are no surprises or disappointments on the event day. Most importantly; discuss likes and dislikes regarding flowers, communicate openly with the floral designer and listen to suggestions, and ask questions if there is concern of any kind.

About

Photography by Jami Leavitt

The Beginning

I started in high school at the local grocery store floral department. From there I went on to college to study fine art. After completing a B.F.A. in painting and working for florists throughout college, I started doing weddings for friends and family. With that seed started, The Bridal Garden has bloomed to a thriving business.

The Style

I would say my natural style is traditional, but I enjoy creating themes from modern to whimsical and everywhere in between. That's the challenge, taking each bride's ideas and interpreting that into the flowers. My favorite thing to do is combine different shades of one color to help enhance the color scheme. Nature naturally provides a myriad of colors and I love to combine them. Why stick with just eggplant when shades of silvery lavender and deep purple compliment eggplant perfectly? This is all done with the bride's direction, of course!

The Favorite Flower

I don't have a favorite flower. I work with too many to be able to pick just one. I get excited about flowers I don't get to work with that often. Like an exotic orchid or one with an interesting color pattern. Or if the floral theme of a bouquet has an interesting color pattern, that's fun. But I work with flowers every day, so flowers loose their pizzazz. My poor husband can't buy me flowers for special occasions.

138 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

Andrea Murphy Photography

Andrea Murphy Photography

Instead of enjoying the flower itself, I love seeing how flowers light up the eyes of everyone I give them to. That takes the place of the

beauty of a flower. I get to appreciate how others enjoy them. I love it when a bride has tears in her eyes when she sees her bouquet for the first time. That's my favorite.

The Advice

Know your own style of how you want your flowers to be. Are you casual, modern or traditional? Those themes will play out in the flowers. It is helpful to have venue, date, color scheme picked out before you visit

your florist.

The Mistake to Avoid

Trying to tackle too much of the decorating themselves. Sometimes it is worth it to let the professionals relieve the stress of setting up and decorating.

About

Colorband PhotoArtisans

The Beginning

I actually started out being a hairdresser, but I just always enjoyed flowers. So I bought a flower cooler to put in my hair shop. With that began a few flower customers. So I started doing one flower at a time, the way I would want it sitting on my table. That was 25 years ago and the rest, is history. It happened because it was supposed to happen.

The Style

My style is a real mix. In the mix, I love tropical flowers. But not everyone understands tropical flowers, so I would say my style is to mix flower styles with the tropical flowers with lilies and roses and flowers in a way that most people might decide as almost like country. Or a tried and true recognizable flower to mix with tropicals or a Bird of Paradise turns it into my style. My style is also too many flowers. I always use too many flowers and that takes me to the wedding style that I do with all my brides. I do “more than” and for that, is my style. My style has many, many flowers from all over the world and that becomes the Tony Foss Style.

The Favorite Flower

Well anyone who knows me would say it is the Bird of Paradise, without me even saying that. Even after me being in the business, now, has moved from the hair business to the flower business, because I don’t consider myself being a hair stylist doing flowers. I consider myself a florist who occasionally does hair. So I have continued to enjoy that “Bird of Paradise thing” mainly because of its bright colors. It is recognizable, it is the opposites of the color spectrum; meaning this orange and purple. So as it goes

140 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

Sarah @ Holli B Photography

Sherry Lynch Photography

in hair color, it goes from one end of the color spectrum to the other. So by that, you can put many, many other flowers, with that Bird of Paradise. Because of the color that the universe has given that one single flower.

The Advice

To pick me! Pick Tony Foss as your florist. Seriously to give advice to a bride, the day we live now, with the internet and Pinterest. Brides can look at books and tv programs and they can have bridal flower consultations as a group thing that I do with my brides. They have access to information at their own leisure and see what is out there. The advice I would give the bride is to look around to see what they consider their desire both in the flower color and style. By doing that, come in here with me and we will go over how we can take that picture and turn it into my bride’s wedding. Basically do a little homework. Additionally to keep an open mind and to relax when picking flowers, her dress, the cake and all other things and let it flow into all of it coming together. So relax and enjoy the process.

The Mistake to Avoid

I would say a bride picking a wedding date and a wedding flower that do not match. If your favorite flower is a Peony, don’t pick September to have your wedding date, otherwise you need to be open to the flower that is in season. Now in today’s world, with flowers of all seasons being grown all over the world, we can get them here, there is just a couple of months a year that you cannot get any flower you want, any time you want it. But that can dramatically impact the cost. So picking the wedding season should match the flower.

We just can't get enough of this elegant look. The intricately braided up do, paired with a bold choice on eye colors is a real winning mix. This combination of eye colors takes an expert hand to apply and a subtle confidence to wear. The rest of her look is very natural, with a soft lip and cheek. This keeps the eye from being overwhelmingly contemporary. It's definitely a chic statement, but still romantic and wearable!.

Hair Comb

For a modern elegant look, we love this textured bun. Add a comb full of crystals to the side for an added bling. If you desire a veil, you can add a veil right below the bun. But given the position of the bun, we would not recommend wearing the veil above the bun.

I

t would be two years after their very first date that Emily and Jesse’s relationship would come full circle and they would begin to plan their dream wedding together. For Emily there was no question. Fall is her favorite season of the year and so it followed that a fall wedding was perhaps, bordering on nirvana for her big day. Wanting a venue that had a warm and inviting feeling while still retaining an upscale ambiance, the search was on. The couple would have guests coming in who weren’t familiar with the Tulsa, OK area and it was a definite plus if both ceremony and reception could be held at the same location. Emily and Jesse came upon Kirkland Chapel – Camp Loughridge and with the competent aid of their wedding planner, Sharon Holm of Tulsa Weddings and Design, this day was going to be perfect. Even the best of plans cannot control the weather and thus the wedding day was a gray, drizzly one with brisk, 40 degree temperatures. But something wonderful was happening. Even with the cold, there was an inviting and warm feeling which fell upon this morning ceremony and brunch reception. Some of this wonderful warmth was brought by the lovely

152 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

fireplace at the camp and became the perfect accent for their day. Morning weddings are definitely not the norm and was, Emily admits, a bit outside of her comfort zone. However, she was reassured with Sharon by her side and felt that the wedding had a cozy, yet classy feel to it. Filled with pops of fall colors in the floral to the plum dresses for the bridesmaids Emily recalls that “In the end, it was our dream day.” Now Jesse is an airline pilot and one of the fun touches came about during the get away. Guests were handed little foam airplanes in neon colors. As Emily and Jesse made their final exit, guests pelted them with these soft and fun favors that paid homage to Jesse’s career as a commercial airline pilot. Wonderful moments abounded and though the weather was less than ideal, it brought out elements that helped make the day even more special. Emily’s wedding day unfolded and gave her, Jesse and their family & guests some wonderful surprises that could never have been planned. Sweet pops of color and décor that represented both of their personalities swept through this lovely event bringing to the forefront the warm and inviting feeling Emily had hoped to create. From the moment they laid eyes on each other to the dancing with her father as a married woman, Emily’s dream wedding came to life.

There is nothing like the romance of the great outdoors. Organic floral tones of green and white compliment the natural beauty of a beautiful Oklahoma ranch. But the glamour and formality of a girls most anticipated of days need not be lost for the rustic setting. Under the pavilion, guests find rich colors and textures that both welcome and wow. A little sparkle of sequinned linens against burlap and barn wood is naturally eclipsed by the sunset as candlelight glimmers and grows under the rising stars in an unforgettable evening.

Heat the oil in a large sautĂŠ pan. Add the bread and salt; cook over low to medium heat, tossing frequently, for 10 minutes, or until nicely browned. Add more oil as needed. 2. For the vinaigrette, whisk all the ingredients together. 3. In a large bowl, mix the tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, yellow pepper, red onion, basil, and corn. Add the bread cubes and toss with the vinaigrette. Season with salt and pepper. Serve, or allow the salad to sit for about half an hour for the flavors to blend.

Gazpacho with Grilled Chicken Sandwich With the left over chicken and Panzanella salad, you can make another meal with the same ingredients by using the tomatoes, cucumber, and onions to make Gazpacho and add a delicious grilled chicken sandwich. Directions The bread used here for the sandwich is a house made foccacia, but you can use any crusty type of bread you prefer. The sandwich was made with lettuce, slice of tomato, and torched Buffalo Mozzarella cheese.

e

For the Gazpacho shooters, take the ingredients from the Panzanella Salad and add 6 oz. of tomato juice and bread blend in a blender with a 2 splashes of hot sauce or tabasco sauce.

Gazpacho Shooters with Bruschetta Entertaining made easy! Serve the left over Gazpacho as shooters by using modern shooter glasses, and add a easy Bruchetta, you have instant appetizer that will sure to impress!

e

Directions Take the same Gazpacho from above and presented in miniature shooter glasses. For the bruschetta, take red and yellow grape tomatoes, halved to quarters. Add thinly sliced and seeded cucumbers, tossed in olive oil and place on top of the bread. Sprinkle with feta cheese, or any cheese of your preference.

Chef Derek Nettle was very generous and shared a great professional trick with us. Brine your chicken breast before you grill them, will add extra flavor and keep the chicken nice and juicy!

Simple Chicken Brine for the Grilled Chicken INGREDIENTS: 1 gallon warm water 3/4 cup kosher salt 2/3 cup sugar 3/4 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup olive oil DIRECTIONS: 1. Pour the warm water into a container that is twice the volume of the water. Pour in the salt, sugar, soy sauce, and olive oil. Stir until the sugar and salt have dissolved, then allow the brine to cool to room temperature.

2. To use, place chicken in the brine, cover, and refrigerate two hours for skinless breasts, 4 hours for bone-in pieces, and 4 hours to overnight for whole chickens. Drain and pat the chicken dry before cooking. One gallon of brine is enough for 6 pounds of whole chicken or bone-in chicken pieces, and up to 10 pounds of skinless, boneless chicken breasts.

chandra craig ^kyle russell WEDDING DATE: NOVEMBER 16, 2013

On November 16, 2013, Chandra Craig will wed Kyle Russell at the Glenpool Conference Center in Glenpool, Oklahoma at 5pm in what would be described as a modern and whimsical theme. Having met Kyle while working at Wal-Mart in 2006, it would prove that you can literally find anything there, including the love of your life. It wouldn't be until June of 2012 that the couple would visit Mexico on their first vacation. Every night the two would take romantic walks along the beach together. It would be on the fourth night of these walks that Kyle would catch Chandra completely by surprise and drop to one knee asking that magical question, "will you marry me?"

mary megan verity^ hunter lee marsh WEDDING DATE: SEPTEMBER 21, 2013

Mary met Hunter at the Beta Theta Pi houses while attending the University of Oklahoma and, in Mary's own words, "the rest is history." As their anniversary as a dating couple neared, Hunter told Mary they were going to go out on a date to celebrate. He drove her to downtown Oklahoma City to the Myriad Gardens, where they started to take a walk. He then paused at a beautiful place, got down on one knee and proposed. Hunter had a photographer, Haley Garret of Travis + Haley G, capture every moment and many more thereafter as the newly engaged couple went on to Nonnas to meet both their families and best friends at an engagement party Hunter had planned himself. And so it will be in Guthrie, Oklahoma, at 7pm on the 21st of September, Hunter and Mary will tie the knot!

elli golesorkhi ^ hamid rabiee WEDDING DATE: SEPTEMBER 01, 2013

In what promises to be a spectacular wedding with approximately 500 guests, one might not have expected this to be the result of a very random meeting. While in Las Vegas, Elli was shopping. Hamid came up to her and began to talk to her. He then asked for her phone number. She gave him her email and proceeded to tell him "I don't give my number to strangers." Moving forward...and a number of emails later...they took a trip to Hawaii together. There in Hawaii, by the water and just like Cinderella, Hamid placed the ring in the slipper and asked Elli to marry him. Just as soon as she said "YES," Hamid placed the shoe which had once held the ring on her left foot and then the ring on her finger. Elli recalls that this was what she had always dreamed of. So the wedding on the 1st of September, 2013 at 6pm will be a grand one. The couple, flanked by four groomsmen, four bridesmaids, a ring bearer and a flower girl will take their vows. Elli will be dressed in a stunning, studded in hand laid crystals, a couture creation by Moe of Bridal Maison.

On a lovely day, the 4th of May, 2013, in a country chic setting at the beautiful barn at Rosebrook Vineyards in Oklahoma City, Brittany and Jimmy pledged their love and faithfulness to one another. It was on a Fall Sunday afternoon when watching a Chicago Bears game at a local pub with friends, that they would meet and begin to build their lives and their futures, together. Eventually Jimmy popped the question after picking Brittany up from work, flowers in hand. Upon arriving home, Brittany found a trail of flowers leading to their bedroom. Upon the bed was a new outfit and purse. As she was admiring these lovely gifts, Jimmy came into the room, got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

Brett Heidebrecht Photography | www.brettheidebrecht.com

Both live in Chicago but it was Brittany's roots that called her home to Oklahoma to celebrate their wedding. They both wanted an elegant, romantic and relaxed barn party. So it was, surrounded by the textures of burlap and the softness of doilies and lace, lit by the flickering, warm light of candles and twinkling lights that they would celebrate the uniting of their lives. The atmosphere was exactly how they imagined this moment would be.

174 BridalifeStyle^Magazine Fall/Winter 2013 | BRIDALIFESTYLE.COM

Brittany and Jimmy thought about this day for an entire year; so when it finally came they were very nervous and excited. Having a great time getting ready with their wedding party and taking pictures with their families, they both felt so blessed to have such wonderful people surrounding them on this, their wedding day. A day more perfect could not be imagined.

There are few things as wonderful and romantic as spending the rest of your life with your high school sweetheart. So it was with Maddison and Alex. Meeting in their freshman year of high school in Algebra, they have been together ever since. Proposing on her 20th birthday, Alex popped the question right in the middle of her parent's living room; there, right in front of her family. He had also had a surprise party waiting downtown with their families and friends to announce their engagement. Inspiration was a pink and green winter wonderland. Maddison loves snowflakes and incorporated them into the decor within the chapel and reception areas. Her vision was to have an elegant, yet age appropriate wedding for the two of them. Alex loves green and Maddison loves pink. Wanting the event to feel young and vibrant yet create and elegant, winter feel to it all. The venue had everything Maddison was looking for. The chapel had the simple elegance she wanted and a stunning ballroom that would comfortably hold the 200+ guests. It was the place she had envisioned being married in since she was a child. Maddison recalls that aside from the obvious part of marrying the love of her life, her favorite part of her wedding was taking the pictures with her husband in between the ceremony and reception outside. She feels as though the emotions they were feeling right after getting married were captured in every picture. It was one of the happiest moments of their lives and it was all caught on camera. Her wedding day was like a dream. She made a point to enjoy every second of it. Maddison recalls that, as cheesy as it sounds, she honestly felt like a princess. She married the man who was her best friend since she was 14 and would not change a thing. It was her perfect day and it went just the way she dreamed it would. It was a wedding day filled with joy and love.

Red Prime Steak in Oklahoma City, holds many great memories for Kerri and Dan so it made perfect sense that, in this intimate setting, they would say their vows and become one. With its modern elegance and downtown location, it would provide the ideal venue for their celebration. Meeting through a mutual friend, and the ensuing string of Facebook messages, what they consider the modern day equivalent of love letters, the two hit it off from the start. And so it would be that eventually, Dan would pop the question. But you can imagine Kerri's surprise when, on his birthday, after opening his presents, when it was just the two of them, he asked her to marry him. Dan said to her "that what he really wanted for his birthday was for her to be his wife." For Kerri, it was very special and she enthusiastically said yes! The wedding day was a feast that was extravagant in both service and style; wanting to spoil their nearest and dearest with all of their favorite things. With so many moments to choose from, both Kerri and Dan adored their wedding day. It was so unique and personal to them and both agree that the walk back down the aisle, through their family and friends, as husband and wife, was pretty phenomenal. Kerri recalls that "I felt enchanted, (it was) our very own place in time." An experience that was honest and emotional, they felt well taken care of by all who were involved. She feels that because of their detailed planning and preparing, plus the assistance of their wedding planner, Kindt Meyers, they were really able to enjoy their wedding day and each other, exclaiming "we are truly happy!"

For Danielle and Toby, their wedding experience would be filled with blessings and a few memories that they will certainly never forget. They met while undergrads at the University of Oklahoma. They decided to go to Octoberfest in Choctaw, OK. It was that day, after two years of being friends, that sparks began to fly. By this time, it was also their senior years so neither of them really expected a relationship, but it became the best thing that ever happened. It wasn't long after graduating, Danielle was working in Houston, Texas and Toby, in Odessa, Texas. Only able to see each other just a couple of days each month, they planned a trip to Cabo San Lucas for her 24th birthday and she was ecstatic. A week in paradise, just the two of them. On the eve of her birthday, Toby took her for a walk and popped the question. She recalls it was the best conversation they ever had. The rehearsal dinner on May 31, 2013 was unforgettable as they spent two hours in the basement chugging champagne while tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma City. Danielle recalls that despite all the odds, they had a blast. The next day, June 1, the weather not only cleared up, but was beautiful. Wanting a garden wedding, the couple found Coles Garden in Oklahoma City, OK. Danielle and Toby felt comforted knowing if it did rain, there was a backup plan. Plus having on site coordinators with lots of experience, they both knew all would be well. Danielle is overwhelmingly excited to be married to her best friend. Though she remembers that what was to be six hours of fun went by quick! Many times has she reviewed the wedding pictures and knows that they truly captured the day. "On my wedding day I felt beautiful, in love, and incredibly excited. ...I still feel the same way." "I look forward to looking back at that wonderful day, with my handsome husband... ...reminiscing about those memories" "...it was hands down, the best day of my life."

When Kristen was just 9 years old, she attended a wedding at Tarp Chapel and it was that very day, she knew, when she was to be married, it would be in the little white Chapel. And so it would come to pass that the time would arrive when she would meet her someone special. She would meet Brandon. The love of her life and future husband at their church's young adult's ministry. There would be no doubt when Brandon popped the question, for the world would know. It would be at a bridal show, on stage, in front of hundreds of people; he proposed and now her dream of a wedding of her own in the little white chapel was going to come true. Kristen wanted everything to be very soft but vintage in style. While not having a specific inspiration in mind, she recalls that she just wanted both her and Brandon's own tastes to be part of it all. One favorite part of Kristen's day was the reception. Recalling how great her DJ was and how much fun they all had. But while the entire day was great fun, she recalls that it was also very emotional. Both Kristen and Brandon were so happy that their day was finally here that they were too excited to be nervous. There were lots of happy tears and a lot of dancing. It was exactly what they both wanted and knowing how much fun the two of them and, everyone had, in retrospect, there is nothing they would change.

Sel and David met in the game room at OU Health Science Center's student union. They were introduced through family but would not begin to date until a year or so later. During a camping trip with friends at a cabin at Beaver's Bend for a camping trip, David had a question for Sel. One night, outside the cabin, by candle light, he proposed to Sel. Later the newly engaged couple would sit by a romantic fire and toast marshmallows together. Wanting to incorporate the groom's traditional style with the bride's vintage inspiration, they decided that Hy Palace was a great place to have their reception and celebrate their wedding. Arriving in a 1958 Jaguar, Sel recalls how much fun it was. Having their friends and family with them to celebrate their union all while feeling relaxed, happy, excited, busy and euphoric. It went by quickly but they were still able to enjoy every moment and were truly thankful to be able to celebrate this moment with their family, friends and the vendors who made it all a reality. It was the perfect day!
