Paint mare Wood She B Magic breaks all-time sale record for cutting horses $1,050,000

Wood She B Magic lived up to the question posed by her name on December 7 in Fort Worth, when she sold for $1,050,000 in Session I of the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity 2-Year-Old Sale.

Consigned by Wes and Lindy Ashlock of Abilene, Texas, and trained by Wes, Wood She B Magic—a 2018 sorrel overo mare by Woody Be Tuff (QH) and out of Magic Metallic (QH); APHA registration is in process—was purchased by Billy Wolf of Whitesboro, Texas, owner of 2017 NCHA Futurity Open champion Dual Reyish. Wood She B Magic’s price broke an all-time record for a cutting horse sold at public auction. The previous record was set nearly 20 years ago, when 1996 NCHA Open Horse of the Year Meradas Little Sue sold for $875,000, in the NCHA Futurity Sale. Also sold at the NCHA Futurity sale, another chrome-splashed horse, Highrey Man [registration pending] sold for $250,000. The APHA-eligible sorrel overo by Dual Smart Rey (QH) and out of Cats Good And Sweet (QH), was consigned by Royce Stallcup and purchased by Colette Lesh.

A NEW STANDARD The 2020 NCHA Futurity Sales concluded on Saturday, December 12, as the new standard by which all other cutting horse sales will now be measured.

The 2020 sales also saw a record 22 horses sell for $100,000 or more (the previous record was set in 2007 with 21 horses), and an all-time record price of $1,050,000 for an individual horse at public auction. Session III of the Preferred Breeders Sale, the final day of the sales, reflected the overall strength and consistency of the six-day sales agenda, with 10 horses selling for $50,000 or more, including three at $100,000 or higher, and 87.6% completed sales from 129 through the ring, for an average of $26,315. Q - Few trainers have ever managed to deliver the outstanding results for their Limited, Novice, and Open riders in the history of the NCHA that you did in 2020. How does that make you feel? A - Whenever we have clients win or just get better and become competitive and reach their goals it makes us feel good! I love helping the Non-pros and watch them get better and learn.

A - Matching horse and rider isn’t easy but you keep in mind is the rider an aggressive rider or not, if the horse needs that aggressive rider or if a horse will move more with a mild rider. Maybe a rider needs a quicker horse or one that has a bigger stop, all things to consider when matching them. Q - How do you manage their competitive spirits in a group setting, at the ranch and the bigshows? A - Our whole barn acts like a team and cheers for each other. The cows are the competition and we all are trying to hold a tough cow.

Q - A dream of most everyone in the show pen is to become a World Champion. This year your barn was crowned with 5 World Champions out of a possible 10 total in the NCHA. How did you pull that off? A - It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, not only from me but our whole team including Roper, our assistants, and from our clients! It takes long hours and mental strength to push for something like this. Q - Winning a World Championship in the NCHA requires a year-round effort. Does having regular monthly cuttings at HorseShoe Park & Equestrian Centre play a part in your success?. A - We have big cuttings in Queen Creek during the winter months and it’s nice to be able to show close to home but in order to win the world or be way up in the standings, you have to do I some traveling and showing in other places. Q -This is also the FIRST time in NCHA history to have one rider win all 3 Open World Titles in the same year! Share what you do to stay focused under pressure when performing at that level of competition, and success? A - It’s difficult showing under pressure. I try to break it down and concentrate on doing my job, which is getting cut clean and being accurate on the cow. If we can do that we have a higher chance of getting through a penalty free run, and that’s the first step to having a winning run! Q - At your level of competition no “one” wins. What did your “Team” members do to enable your outstanding performance in 2020. A - Your exactly right, it takes a team to win. I couldn’t do it without Roper keeping everything and everyone organized, and being my coach when I need it. My assistants preparing the horses and taking great care of them play a big role. Also, my help in the pen, no one can cut without a team in the arena helping! Q - Winning requires matching the right person with the right horse. What do you look for in pairing up horse and riders to compete at the highest levels of competition. 42

Q - What do you look for in a cutting horse prospect? A - A horse with lots of expression on a cow gives it a winning edge! I also love a horse with a big stop! Q - You have now won a World Championship in the NCHA 8 times. What are the keys to winning again, and again, and again? A - Hard work and consistency pays off in being competitive year after year. Q - What do you look for in the horses that empower them to become champions? A - And a horse with that little bit of extra look will help you win. Q - For a new person interested in competing in the NCHA, if their pretty handy on a horse how long does it take for them to be competitive in the show pen? A - A person can be competitive in the Ncha quickly with the right guidance! Q - What guidance can you share to young trainers that have the desire and drive to become themselves World Champions on improving their skill sets? A - Watch and learn from people who are winning, they have experience and knowledge and most likely would love to help an up-comer! Q - When you are at the big shows and everyone needs a little piece of you, how do you keep your head-together, and not just loose it serving so many needs day after day, and then compete yourself at the highest-level? A - Stay calm and do the best we can do, stay focused for that time! Cutting can be trying but can also be the most fun!!

Dawn Chapman

Q - You are a major patron to the horse community in Arizona, most recently as a sponsor of the new second covered arena at HorseShoe Park & Equestrian Center in Queen Creek. And, now are the naming sponsor of the main arena for your Chapman Dealerships. How do you make the time to take care of business and be competitive in show pen at the same time? A - My husband John who is co-CEO of Chapman Automotive Group with his brother Ted Chapman, they are very supportive of my career in cutting as well as making time to meet with community leaders. When there is a need to partner with local townships to support agricultural endeavors we are all very committed. Q - You won two NCHA World Championships in 2020 - that is a remarkable achievement. Can you share a few secrets to success? A - It starts with a plan, a dream. It all started in 2019 when I purchased Crispy Kreme, aka Donut, who was eligible for the $5000 Novice Class. Mike and I decided to show him lightly in 2019 and go for it in 2020. It’s a year long process, so we started planning/mapping out the schedule in Fall 2019. Our first show was in Tucson at the Pima County Fairgrounds on Jan 2! As for Little Jackson Cat, I had owned her at the time for a little over a year, and Mike wanted to show her in the Open and I would show her in the NonPro as well. Q - How did you find your two horses, Crispy Kreme and Little Jackson Cat? A - MWPH is made up of Mike Wood and Roper Curtis. They are both incredibly knowledgeable of horses all over the Nation competing in the major NCHA aged events. They watch horses and keep track of their progress throughout the year. When horses are aging out of these events, they start narrowing it down to horses they believe will make the transition to weekend cutting horses. It’s not always easy for horses to do this. It’s tough weekending because they compete every day of a 3,4, or 5 day show, and in my case, I also show them so it’s twice a day! Whole new world. Roper specifically has a knack for not only seeing those potential winners but also choosing horses for their different clients. Both LJC aka Jackie and Donut were found this way. Q - What makes Crispy Kreme and Little Jackson Cat special? A - Firstly, Jackie is truly one in a million. Her talent comes from a great foundation of training, but mostly her inherent cow sense. You can’t train that into the great ones. For Mike to be competitive in the Open, which is the highest level of this sport, he has to show the best horse with that extra something that separates them from the pack. It is very uncommon for an Open horse to compete in the NonPro as well. We did that very thing with this special mare all year. That is what made this year’s accomplishment so very unique! Mike finished first in the World and I finished 5th in my division. And let me tell you, Jackie was the only horse that showed in both divisions in the final 4 go-rounds in Fort Worth! Donut was a really nice aged event horse that Mike and Roper watched before I purchased him. He was primarily shown by an Amateur through the aged events. Super cowy, really cool style. The Year started out a bit rough with Donut and me, getting 0 out of

10 checks! It was incredibly frustrating especially since Mike was having stellar runs on him! Like any sport, so much of it is mental toughness, so you could say, I had lost it. Each time I walked to the herd on him, I choked. Eventually you get the breakthrough but it’s awful til then, and lonely! What’s so cool though, fellow competitors were so supportive and gave the best advice. I saw others go through it as well during this year and I returned the favor of offering a nudge of confidence and support. Q - What is it about competing on Cutting Horses that drives your interest in the sport? A - I began riding horses around 10 years old, typical horse crazy girl! I competed in barrels at gymkhanas and loved it. As I got older, the desire to try something different but still wanting to stay in the Western tradition led to cutting. It was a thrill I’d never experienced in any other discipline. The horsemanship was second to none. Mostly, it’s the people in this sport that make the difference for me. We truly are a family. Some of the most influential people I’ve met are those I’ve met in the pen, whether personally and even spiritually. It’s not uncommon to watch cows during the settling of the herd with Harvard professors, World renowned heart surgeons, movie producers, assistant trainers, and homemakers like me. The horses are the complete athlete, extraordinary all the way around. Q - You have been involved in Cutting for years serving at many levels including past- President of the Az Cutting Horse Association. What do you see as the challenges to the horse industry in the coming years? A - Thanks for asking, Tracy. Many of us grew up in an agricultural environment so we think things will continue. This is absolutely not the case! Elected officials decide it all. Many of these elected officials do not have the same views that you do. And they will fight against you. They will shut us down. Get involved, and don’t be afraid to state your opinion in a constructive way. Most importantly, as you become more educated, be bold and get into politics in your community. They are making decisions that affect you. Q - You are a successful business woman, and horsewoman, and now World Champion. A - What guidance can you share for the amateur or Non-Pros on what it takes to become a World Champion? Don’t be discouraged by the downturns in your journey!! Doesn’t matter if you are in a ‘prestigious’ barn or on your own, just reach out to trainers and ask for advice. They WILL help you. It’s better if you have shown and are giving your best in the pen. Q - Young woman in the horse business are proving themselves in more performance horse disciplines from roping, and working cow horse, to cutting and even reining. How does it feel to develop into a role model for these ladies by proving they too have a shot at becoming World Champions? A - Oh man....it’s just THE BEST!!! As a little girl, I loved horses more than anything in this World! Anyone has a shot at being the worlds best in cutting or in any other sport!! You can do it!! I have seen it with my own eyes!! I’m open to anyone who wants to talk about the sport, never hesitate to ask for help! You would be surprised.

SMART BEET PELLETS or SHREDS

Smart Beet Training Date: 11/6/2020

Beet pulp is a by-product of the sugar industry.

Sugar is extracted from the beet leaving the pulp. The sugar finds its way into foods and grocery stores, while the pulp is used as an ingredient in animal feeds (less than 5% sugar). Beet pulp is rich in fiber and is unique in its form, as it is soluble fiber and highly digestible.

New Name, Same Great Product – Introducing “Smart Beet”

Why change the name from “Beet Pulp” to “Smart Beet”? Our Standlee Premium Beet Pulp Pellets and Shreds are made up of dried pulp and Concentrated Separator By-Product (CSB). CSB is a secondary molasses produced during the separation of sugar from regular sugar beet molasses. Due to labeling regulations in select states requiring products with more than one ingredient to not have a single ingredient name (i.e., Beet Pulp), we have changed only the name to “Smart Beet.” Everything else is the same, from the quality ingredients used, to the incredible benefits of adding beet pulp to horse and livestock feed programs.

Roping’s 10 Commandments with Robbie Schroeder

By A.J. MANGUM, originally published in the May 1999 issue of Western Horseman You’re an amateur roper, one who ropes strictly for sport. You might be a newcomer to roping, or you might be a veteran header or heeler, a fixture at weekend jackpots. Either way, you know the demands of your pastime. You also know that those demands can be so overpowering a roper might have days when he questions whether he wants to pick up his rope or leave it untouched. The roper who can cope with competitive pressure, focus on horsemanship, balance his progression with his horse’s training, and gauge his own skill can avoid frustrations that might lead to burnout. Trainer and world champion roper Robbie Schroeder offers these 10 rules to help a roper develop the mindset to focus on success rather than failure. 1. Finish Your Horse’s Training A roper might begin a horse’s training-or even send his horse to a trainer-but not get the job finished. Too often, a roper reaches a point where he believes he can rope well on his horse, then decides the horse’s training is complete. The horse might be prepared to enter the roping box, Schroeder says, but winning is another story. “An amateur roper really needs a finished horse,” Schroeder says. “Some ropers are tempted to take a young horse and try to learn with the horse. That just doesn’t work. An amateur needs to learn as he goes. He can’t teach his horse at the same time.” Instead, a novice should buy a well-trained mount with solid skills as a roping horse. Such a partner can be an amateur’s best teacher. 2. Fit Equipment to Your Horse Don’t be tempted by trends or influenced by other ropers’ gear choices. Experiment with different types of saddles and tack, then use what makes your horse most comfortable “Most importantly, make sure your tack fits your horse properly,” Schroeder says. “If it doesn’t, he’ll be uncomfortable. You can’t have a good run on an uncomfortable horse.” 3. Practice “You will always need to practice,” Schroeder stresses. “A lot, in fact. If I’m not roping off a horse every day, I’m at least roping a dummy every day.” Once a roper learns to catch consistently, it’s easy to be tempted by the idea that practice schedules can begin to ease. Resisting that temptation, Schroeder says, is the mark of a dedicated roper. “There’s no excuse for not practicing,” he says. “Even if you don’t have your own place to ride, you can certainly set up a roping dummy and solve a lot of problems that have nothing to do with your horse.” 4. Escape the Arena 46

“A lot of ropers never ride just to ride or to exercise their horses,” Schroeder says. “When they saddle up, they head straight for the roping arena.” Riding outside the arena—perhaps to work cattle or trail ridegives a roper a chance to become better acquainted with his horse, and provides the horse a refreshing break and new surroundings. It also helps a roper develop as a rider, giving him an edge when he returns to the arena. 5. Don’t Jump the Gun One of the deadliest sins a novice roper can commit, Schroeder points out, is leaping into competition without adequate preparation. Selfimposed deadlines and pressure from other ropers might push an amateur into ropings, rodeos, or horse shows before he’s ready. The result: a roper disappointed in his performance and disgusted with his choice of a sport—a roper on the verge of quitting before he gets started.

6. Keep Your Eyes Open If a roper pays attention at competitions, he can back into the chute with a few competitive advantages. “While you’re waiting in the arena for your turn, watch the barrier, watch the cattle,” Schroeder says. “If you happen to draw a steer you remember as good or bad, you need to know what to do. You can’t remember all of them, but you can remember the exceptional ones.” 7. Cope With Competitive Pressure It’s easier said than done, but a roper must learn to block out, or at least reduce, the pressure he feels in competitive environments. “Treat a competitive run just like a practice run,” Schroeder advises. “Keep your mindset the same as when you’re at home. Let everything be normal and think positively.” 8. Don’t Be Intimidated To be competitive in any endeavor, you have to see your competitor—any other competitor—as your equal, regardless of your opponent’s past records or bravado. “That has to be your attitude if you’re trying to win,” Schroeder says. “You’re there to compete, so compete. Don’t be intimidated by anyone, and don’t let the other guy beat you before you get a chance to rope. You can’t progress that way.” 9. Know Your Speed Limit In roping, speed is everything. Right? Wrong. “Too many ropers think more about speed than skill,” Schroeder believes. “Work on your accuracy first. Being accurate at a slower speed is better than being fast, but inaccurate. Slow down and let everything come together.” 10. Ask for Help “You can never learn everything,” Schroeder says. “Even professional ropers learn from each other. Instead of creating your own bad habits by coming up with your own solutions to problems, ask someone for help. There are any number of people who will help you if you ask, but if you don’t ask, few of them will volunteer. “Remember that you can always learn something—even if it’s something minor—from anyone. Even ropers with less talent can often teach you something.” JANUARY 2021

Junior Nogueira-

Yesterday, we

lost the best horseman ever, in my opinion. The first time I ever came to America, the first place I ever roped a steer at was Robbie Schroeder’s arena. It had rained the day before, and my Brazilian friends’ arena was wet, so Robbie invited us over to rope. That day, I ran some steers and he gave me more horses to ride and rope on. At the time, I didn’t know anything. I had come with a friend, who spoke pretty good English, but I didn’t speak much at all. Robbie invited me to come stay, and he was so amazing with horses. I didn’t have to understand word-for-word what he was saying, because I could watch what he did with his horses and know what he was telling me. I went home, and came back and stayed with him for six months working for him and helping with the show horses. He had bucking bulls back then, and I always went with him and we had so much fun. In the years that followed, Robbie told me every time I spoke to him, “I’m so proud of you, I love you like a son.” He believed in my roping, and he’s who taught me to be a horseman. He’d say over and over again how good I roped, and he showed me how to really see a horse for what it was. The great horsemen of this generation learned from Robbie. You could watch him and not be able to figure out what he was doing, and then suddenly you’d see the horse melt to him. He could see the skill in a horse—whether the horse knew much or not—better than anyone I’ve seen. He’s who found Green Card, the horse that got me through the bulk of my career. And he’s who was so proud of me at this year’s World Show and encouraged me with Hali. I last spoke to him during the NFR, when he built me up with confidence when I needed it. Robbie was just 62. He was young. And he was a great friend, who has contributed to my whole life more than I can explain. I will miss him, but I’m thankful for the lessons he taught me and the chance he gave this young kid from Brazil.

Q - The Arabian show will be happening during a serious Covid event in Scottsdale. What safety precautions is the Association implementing to protect the exhibitors from oneanother? A - “Six-Point Safety Plan,” puts everyone’s health and safety front and center. This clear easy to understand campaign that will be extensively communicated to our participants, staff and essential personnel. Mandatory Masks & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) All competition staff, officials, volunteers, service providers and participants two-years of age and older are required to wear a face mask or face covering at all times while on competition grounds, except when mounted on a horse, riding in a horse-drawn cart and designated eating areas (must be stationary while eating or drinking). Masks will be required the entire duration of the event from move in through move out (February 6-22, 2021). Physical Distancing A 6-foot physical distancing rule will be enforced throughout the event. Signage, floor guides and plexiglass barriers will be utilized where applicable to assist and remind our participants. Where this isn’t feasible, we have mitigated as best as possible with plexiglass barriers or clear signage. All individuals must practice physical distancing at all times by staying at least six (6) feet (about two arms’ length) from any person who is not a member of their immediate household. Handwashing & Enhanced Sanitation Participants will find easy access to bathroom sinks/soap and hand sanitizer throughout the property. We have increased the amount of routine cleaning, with a focus on high54

touch surfaces and common areas using cleaning products that meet EPA guidelines. Screening & Temperature Checks Extensive protocols have been put in place to help protect our participants and staff from unnecessary exposure to Covid-19 at the event. Temperature screening upon entry at all entrances will be performed by security. including screening questions, temperature checks for participants and staff entering the grounds at each entrance. Any person who has a temperature of 100.4° F (38° C) or higher, has symptoms of COVID-19 or has been in contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days cannot enter the competition grounds. Healthcare personnel who have treated patients using appropriate medical-grade PPE during the course of performing professional duties are exempted from this restriction. Participant & Staff Training To support the safety of everyone, only individuals who are essential to be on the grounds. Extensive employee protocols have been put in place including screening questions, employee temperature checks and training programs on health and safety protocols. Communication on health and safety protocols expected at our events will sent to all participants and staff on record. We ask participants to stay at home if they have COVID-19 related symptoms or have been in contact with

Incident Response Protocols We are heavily focused on reducing the chance for the infection to spread on our properties. In the unfortunate event a guest or employee tests positive for the virus, we will activate protocols and leverage our trained staff to respond quickly so that exposed areas are thoroughly sanitized. The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show has medical and trained security personnel on staff to respond quickly in the event of an incident. Q- One event at WestWorld was canceled in the middle of the event because everyone was not wearing masks. What is show management’s position on wearing masks at the show and when folks are exhibiting in the show pen? A - All competition staff, officials, volunteers, service providers and participants two-years of age and older are required to wear a face mask or face covering at all times while on competition grounds, except when mounted on a horse, riding in a horse-drawn cart and designated eating areas (must be stationary while eating or drinking). Masks will be required the entire duration of the event from move in through move out (February 6-22, 2021). Q - What happens if the show gets shut-down in the middle of the event because folks are not wearing masks? A - We don’t anticipate this will happen as our participants, staff and essential personnel are aware of the rules and are happy to have a show to attend. There will be no tolerance for non compliance of the rules and we will all work together to keep

Q - What is Scottsdale’s policy for wearing masks during events at WestWorld? A- Everyone must wear a mask. Eating & drinking in designated areas and athletic competition when competing are the only times a mask may be removed ( when riding a horse, when competing for beach volleyball, etc. ) . Q - What is Scottsdale’s policy regarding spectators at WestWorld events? A - Control, event producers must submit plans that show that they can and will control all attendees. This is about mask wearing and social distances. Volume of attendees is about producers ability to control the volume requested. Q - Scottsdale installed special filtration systems to clean the air of viruses, how much did those alterations cost? A - UV/Ion air treatment has been installed in the air handlers in the TNEC as well as hands free hardware on doors and restroom fixtures. I do not have the expenditure as the City’s capital and facility group administered and installed. It will be next week before I get this number. Q - It is reported an event was shut down right in the middle of the schedule because people were not wearing masks. Is that true, and if so can that happen again at WestWorld? A - Yes, one event has been closed due to non-compliance of the plan they submitted and were approved by (October 2020). Can it happen again, yes. We are working closely with every event producer to be compliant and thus the pre-submittal of plans so the producer is capable of maintaining compliance. If a producer is noncompliant we will close them, for non-compliance.

Q - You moved your event in Scottsdale from January to late March, what was the motivation for that decision?

A - “While every indication showed that our bidders, consignors and sponsors were behind our efforts to hold our auction next month, we decided it would be prudent at this time to safeguard everyone’s health,” said Craig Jackson chairman and CEO of BarrettJackson. “We determined that moving our event to March 2021 seemed like the right thing to do to avoid the coronavirus spike that is currently being predicted. During the coming year, Friends of Horseshoe Park and the Roots N’ Boots Queen Creek committee will be exploring alternatives to continue their presence in the community, in person and over social media. ProRodeo Hall of Famer Leo Camarillo passes

Springs, Colo. Camarillo and his younger brother Jerold, also a ProRodeo Hall of Famer, learned to rope from their father, Ralph, a champion roper in California rodeos before he turned to raising stock.

By Tracy Renck, Coutesty PRCA

ProRodeo Hall of Famer Leo Camarillo passed away Dec. 30 at the age of 74 in Chandler, Ariz. Camarillo, a five-time world champion – team roping in 1972-73, 1975 and 1983, and all-around in 1975 – was inducted with the inaugural 1979 ProRodeo Hall of Fame class in Colorado

The Late Leo Camarillo

They grew up in California's scenic Santa Ynez Valley. "I've never seen a man who loved that sport so much," said Jerold, 73, in a phone interview with ProRodeo Sports News. "He dedicated

himself to go to rodeos and learn new things. Then, we would come home and try it here, and he loved the whole sport, and he loved all the cowboys." When the boys were youngsters, their father required that the pair spend an hour each day practicing with their ropes. One of the first targets was a pop bottle, brought into the living room when the weather was cold. From the bottle, they graduated to roping chickens and finally calves. "We were raised on a ranch and found a way to win money (roping) without having a job," Jerold said. "We were raised roping. We roped all day long and we loved it, and it was a way out for us." Leo and Jerold revolutionized team roping as heelers. Leo qualified for the National Finals Rodeo 20 times (1968-86 and 1988), while Jerold qualified for the NFR 17 times (1968-83, 198586) and won a world title in 1969. Leo won the NFR team roping average a PRCA-record six times – 1968-71, 1980 and 1982. He also was a star in the PRCA circuit system. He won the all-around title in the California Circuit in 197677, 1980-82, team roping in 197677, 1982 and tie-down roping in 1976. In 1983, he was the Texas Circuit team roping champ. An intense competitor, Leo created and perfected a polished style of heeling steers. An excellent horseman, Camarillo, born Jan. 25, 1946, in Santa Ana, Calif., roped off his horse named Super Stick, which many pros thought unsuitable for professional competition. Camarillo was also an excellent tie-down roper and steer wrestler. "We both dedicated ourselves to be the greatest ever," Jerold said. "We were so fortunate to learn from our dad, and from then on we changed the style of roping and changed the style of heeling the steers in the air. We worked at it really hard, and when we went out on the road people were amazed with the way we were roping." Leo is survived by his wife, Sue; sons Wade and Trey; and daughter, Cassie.

The Bureau of Land Management posts significant accomplishments for wild horse and burro management in fiscal year 2020

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced several important accomplishments that support the agency’s mission of preserving wild horses and burros on public range lands in an ecologically sustainable way. During Fiscal Year 2020 – which ended Sept. 30, 2020 – the BLM humanely removed 10,139 wild horses and burros from overpopulated Herd Management Areas throughout the West. At the same time, the agency placed 6,162 animals into private care through adoptions and sales. The agency also secured contracts for seven new off-range pastures to provide humane long-term care for up to 5,000 unadopted and unsold wild horses in a cost-efficient free-roaming environment. “Through decisive action and a creative approach, the BLM is showing successes in the management of Wild Horses and Burros,” said Casey Hammond, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management. “The continued innovative use of incentives is saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars while reducing the overpopulation of wild horses and burros on the range.” The BLM continued to offer the Adoption Incentive Program (AIP) in Fiscal Year 2020, which is believed to have bolstered performance. The AIP, which was launched by the Trump Administration in 2019, offers qualified adopters $500 within 60 days of adoption and $500 within 60 days of receiving title. With more than 6,160 animals adopted and sold last year, taxpayers saved approximately $154 million that would have been spent on lifetime care for the animals.

Despite the pandemic, through such outreach efforts as the Online Corral adoption/sale platform and partnerships with organizations such as the Mustang Heritage Foundation, the agency took advantage of every safe opportunity to place animals into good homes. As states began to lift COVID-related restrictions, field offices safely resumed operations that allowed even more people to bring home their own wild horse or burro from satellite events around the country. As of March 1, 2020, the wild horse and burro population on public lands was estimated at more than 95,000, which is more than triple the number of animals the land can sustainably support in conjunction with other legally mandated uses, making targeted removals and successful adoptions and sales essential for enabling the agency to regain proper balance. Given the extensive overpopulation, wild horses and burros routinely face starvation and death from lack of water. The high number of excess wild horses and burros causes habitat damage that forces animals to leave public lands and travel onto private property or even highways in search of food and water, creating increases in public safety concerns. Placement of wild horses and burros into private care is critical to the agency’s ability to effectively manage these valued resources as integral parts of America’s public lands. Under a 1971 law, the Wild FreeRoaming Horses and Burros Act, the agency is responsible for preserving and protecting these animals as part of a thriving natural ecological system on public lands.

An estimated $4 million in purse money will be available when Turf Paradise opens its 84-day live meet, running from January 4 thru May 1, 2021. Racing will be conducted on a 5-day a week basis, Monday thru Friday (a change from the original schedule of Saturday thru Wednesday). Kentucky Derby Day Saturday, May 1, will be the lone exception. “Our numbers revealed a simple truth: we handle more on the weekdays than on the weekends, especially wagering coming from our out of state markets,” said track general manager Vincent Francia. “Better handle equals more purse money for the horsemen.” The Phoenix-based track has been dark since having to curtail its live meet in progress on March 14 due to the Coronavirus. But simulcasting at the track and at Turf’s OTB system continued, accruing $2.1 million from March 14 to September 3. An additional $1.9 million is projected to be generated from then until Dec. 31, for a total of $4 million. The $4 million serves as seed money to start the meet. In addition nearly $50,000 is generated daily for purses for each of the 84 live race days. “The whole purpose of the January to May meet is to get money to the horsemen, to help them get back on their feet after the March cancellation,” said Francia. “Fans are welcome in limited number because of the Coronavirus. But the meet is really for the horsemen.” The first floor of the Grandstand and outside on the track apron will be open for wagering. The Clubhouse and Turf Club will be closed. Daily purses will range from $80,000 to $100,000. “Because of the increased purse money we’re expecting to have plenty of horses,” said racing secretary Robbie Junk. “Bottom maiden claimers will race for $8,000 as compared to $6,300. Open allowance will be up to $23,500 from $19,000. And bottom $3,000 claimers will be racing from $9,000 instead of $7,000. “ Details are still being worked out with the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders for their purses. “What we know so far with the breed races is that they will be 5 to 10% higher than the open races,” said Junk. “I’m still working through the details with Marv Fleming (President, Az Thoroughbred Breeders).” As per the ADOR directives stating there must be tightly controlled access to the stable area, the barn area will be closed to all nonessential persons. Owners, visitors, children, jockey agents and guests are not allowed on the backside at this time. The requirement for entry onto the backside with approved access will have an entry log and must list name, racing license number the date and time and temperature reading. Persons residing on the backside must present themselves to a Security gate for a temperature check in the morning before 8 am. After the Temperature check a wrist band will be placed on the person that corresponds to the day (rotating colors). Wristbands will be given to all persons at the gates for the day. These wristbands must be returned to the gate the following day in order to receive the new wristband for the day. Any person found to not be wearing a wristband for the day will be presented to the gate for a wellness check and other possible action. A temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be permitted entry to the backside. 2 more checks will be conducted to make sure there is not faulty equipment. Trainers must supply to the Director of Security a list of all grooms residing in their barns for the purpose of the wellness checks for the day. This list will be used for compliance of the daily wellness checks. This year Security will be placing an RFID chip sticker on the back of your racing license.

Tish Fappani’s Futurity Win Clinches Million Dollar Owner Status

It was a night chock full of million-dollar accomplishments during the 2020 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) CINCH Non Pro Futurity Finals on Friday, Dec. 4. With a first-place finish in the CINCH Non Pro Level (L) 3 Futurity, Tish Fappani solidified her NRHA Million Dollar Owner status aboard Joes Genes (Lil Joe Cash x Electric Genes). Hailing from Scottsdale, Arizona, Fappani is no stranger to million-dollar milestones. She’s the wife of NRHA Six Million Dollar Rider Andrea Fappani. Partners when it comes to the business of horses and reining, the couple shares the workload at home and the limelight when it shines in their direction. The team dynamic has been a longstanding strategy for Tish, but it first began with her parents, Bob and the late Sue Wood. “My mom had me on horses before I could even walk,” Tish said. “My mom used to do a lot of the American Horse Show Association (AHSA) and stock horse events. When I was 6, I went to ride with Glenn Gimple. It was cool because my mom rode with him, and he was ‘The Man’ when it came to equitation and stock horses.” From Covina, California, Tish’s family always had around 10 horses at home. Tish remembers feeding and cleaning stalls every morning before school, and she would help her mom get horses ready for lessons in the afternoon. Those hours in the barn funded Tish’s time in the saddle in Arizona where her affinity for reining blossomed. “When I was 15, I was lucky enough to start riding with Brett Stone and John Slack in Arizona,” Tish remembered about her official entrance into the world of reining. “That was the year Boomernic won the Futurity.” It was those long, sliding stops that initially caught Tish and Sue’s attention for reining. The style and finesse sealed the deal for Tish and is perhaps the reason she’s now an NRHA Million Dollar Owner. “My mom was a huge part of my life with horses; she always made sure I had the best opportunities and she put me with the best trainers,” Tish said. “I was very lucky to have both of my parents in my corner.”

Today, Tish finds partners in Andrea and their oldest son Luca. The three have been swapping horses in the show pen for the past few years. Titles in the open, non pro, and youth, all on the same horses, speak volumes about the caliber of horses in the Fappani reining program. “I’m really proud of raising horses that we can all ride and compete on,” Tish said. “I remember the first horse Andrea and I bought together–Lean With Peppy Chex–we bought him as a 2-year-old before we were even married. Andrea showed him at the 2002 Futurity and then we sold him as a 4-year-old.” Eight years later, the Fappanis bought that gelding back, and now ‘Scooter’ is a permanent resident in the retirement pasture. If it were up to Tish, she’d keep them all. “I get sentimental and think we need to keep all of them,” she said with a laugh. “Andrea isn’t a huge fan of all these geldings in our backyard, but we’ve had a lot of special horses together: Premier Diamond, Spooks N Jewels, Ice Cube, and Joes Genes, the mare I showed at the Futurity, just to name a few.” Tish is excited to breed her mare and see what kind of foals she can throw for the Fappanis to show in all three levels in a few years. “I always want all of our horses to do their best, but there’s something special when we own one and are able to get it shown,” Tish said. “I’m super shocked by this accomplishment. It’s huge. I’m proud to have raised and shown these horses, it’s super rewarding but it also takes a team to get it done.” 72

2020 NRHA Markel Insurance Futurity Sales Increase Average Sale Prices Across the Board Uncertainty surrounded many aspects of the 2020 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity, including the NRHA Markel Insurance Futurity Sales. With numerous COVID-19 constraints imposed on the event, including changing the location to Arena 6 and condensing the Sales to one day instead of three, everyone waited to see what the result would be. Would the new format work for buyers and sellers? What would the averages be? Would buyers show up?

74

Those worries were quickly assuaged. The buyers came and stayed from beginning to end – both in-person and online – and the bidding was vigorous. Although fewer horses were consigned in the Futurity Prospect Sale than in the previous year, the sale average was substantially higher. The 23 horses through the ring averaged $35,522 against the prior year’s $34,257, while the 16 horses sold averaged $37,235, obliterating 2019’s average of $33,086. That momentum continued in the Select Yearling Sale, where the 108 horses through the ring averaged $22,856, and the 96 sold averaged $22,697. That was up from $20,919 and $21,322, respectively. In the Marketplace Sale, 60 horses went through the ring, averaging $14,367, compared to $13,046 in 2019. With only three pass outs, the remaining 57 sold averaged $14,088, compared to the prior year’s $13,718. New for 2020 was the Select Breeders Sale, which showcased 21 horses that averaged $27,571. The 19 that sold averaged $29,111. The overall high seller was Im Gunna Shine, a 2010 stallion by Gunner out of Shiner LIght by Shining Spark purchased by Onofre Gomez from California for $95,000. Angie Honeywell, NRHA Senior Manager of Futurity Sales was excited about the success of the sales. “Overall, they went really well and everyone seemed to embrace the changes.” One of those changes, the new online sales option, provided real convenience for buyers unable to attend in person. “We had a lot of bidding online and actually sold 11 horses to online buyers.” “The atmosphere at this year’s sale was very upbeat,” noted NRHA Sale Committee member Jake

JANUARY 2021

The overall high seller was Im Gunna Shine, a 2010 stallion by Gunner out of Shiner LIght by Shining Spark purchased by Onofre Gomez from California for $95,000 Dahl. “I think that the one-day format this year was great. Everyone was in sale mode all day – either buying or selling. You saw more trainers there looking at yearlings and two-year-olds than I ever remember, and overall, there was a positive feel. Both buyers and sellers were upbeat.” Dahl, who serves on the sale committee with Chairman Clint Haverty and members Casey Hinton, Fred Thomsson, Spence Bell, John Tague, and Rosanne Sternberg, added, “That vibe seemed to start during the Wednesday night preview and just stayed consistent throughout the sale.” NRHA Chief Financial Officer John Foy commented, “2020 has been a challenge for many equine associations, including the NRHA. We had seen a reduction in some of our revenue line items and had to make expense adjustments to offset those. So, we were very hopeful that the futurity and sale would perform well not only for the association but for the industry as a whole.” The hopes became reality when the North American Affiliate Championships at the Futurity had record entries and payouts and the show came very close to breaking the overall payout record set in 2012. “Plus, the total sold for the entire sale was the best it has been since 2007. Foy added, “It goes without saying that the NRHA Board and Management all very appreciative of everyone who participated in the sale and the show!” Along with the upbeat tempo, there was a distinct poignancy during the sale, with many folks wearing masks with stickers that read “Mask up for Doug” in memory of the late Doug Carpenter, who passed away due to COVID-19 the week before the futurity began. Carpenter, a wheel horse on the sale committee, had predicted the Sale’s success back in November, referencing the quality of the horses consigned. “I have never seen the depth of the horses we are selling – not only in how well-bred they are but also in their conformation. I think we are seeing the breeding coming together – throughout the industry people are breeding great mares to great stallions and it really shows,” he said. Planning is already underway for the 2021 NRHA Markel Insurance Futurity Sales, and information will soon be available. To learn more, contact Angie Honeywell at ahoneywell@nrha.com or 405-946-7400. Craigslist horse World Champion Team Roper

By Chelsea Shaffer - Courtesy Team Roping Journal Levi Lord's low-maintenance, 23-year-old heel horse is shining under Globe Life Field's bright lights. Levi Lord is pretty sure of it: they don't make deals like the kind he got on Little Bay anymore. Ten years ago, Lord was a freshman in high school with a little money in his pocket.

The South Dakota kid had just been to a truck roping in Texas and won some cash, and he was on the hunt for a high school rodeo heel horse. So the whole family piled in a truck and headed back to Texas with a list of horses Lord had pieced together, including the number of a man who'd posted a $2,700, 14-year-old gelding on Craigslist. They went to the East Texas home of Bruce Standefer who'd, at the time, owned the horse about a year. "There’s a couple little things he would do that irritated us," Standefer remembered. "He'd turn his head in the box to the left, and he just didn't fit my son or me." "He didn't look like much," Lord remembered of the first time he saw the horse registered as Poco Sparta King. "But even then, you could tell he tried his heart out. I went back and tried him the next morning and I roped good on him. My dad and my brother (Eli) told me that if I was really looking for a heel horse and I didn't buy that one, I wasn't really looking very hard. He worked so good every time, but he wasn’t the flashiest thing. Really the same way he is now." Two weeks later, Lord won his first truck on LB, and Lord's dad, J.B., called to thank Standefer for the buy. "I get a phone call from Levi's dad, and I think, 'Oh no, they don't like the horse,' when I see my phone ringing," Standefer remembered. "But he called instead to just say thank you for selling him the horse, that Levi had just won his first truck on him." In the decade that followed, Lord and Little Bay won high school rodeos, then the Badlands Circuit title three times, along with Rodeo Houston; Spanish Fork, Utah; and Nampa, Idaho. 76

‘Game changer’:

Officials praise horse racing safety bill Horse racing officials and industry activists are hailing the passage and signing of a safety and integrity bill that will standardize medication and doping rules in an effort to make the sport safer and fairer. The long sought-after legislation became was part of the spending bill that President Trump signed into law Sunday night. It is set to go into effect no later than July 1, 2022 since it passed before the end of this year. The bill gives an independent panel authority to set uniform, national medication, drug and track safety standards to be enforced by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. Racetracks that don’t take part won’t be allowed to take bets from out of state, and the rules will become part of the competition agreement for those who want to run horses. “This is a monumental step forward that will help secure the future of thoroughbred racing in the United States,” New York Racing Association president and CEO Dave O’Rourke said. “For the first time, the sport will have a unified set of national safety and integrity standards to replace an outdated system that relied on patchwork regulation. … This legislation will further modernize horse racing and arrives at a critical juncture in its history.” For decades, 38 different jurisdictions have been able to set their own rules, including varying limits on medication and how far out from a race certain drugs can be given. The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020 will make those things uniform across the board, with one aim to eliminate the use of performanceenhancing drugs. “It’s the first time it’ll have a national program for both the anti-doping as well as racetrack safety,” U.S Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis T. Tygart said by phone Monday. “The ultimate goals of both of those is to ensure as safe and fair and drug-free of a sport as possibly can be.”

78

The bill is eight years in the making and gained further momentum after two major incidents. First there was a spike of racehorse deaths in California from 2019 into 2020. Then there were the March indictments of two high-profile trainers and more than two dozen others for taking part in a widespread international scheme to drug horses to make them race faster. Animal Wellness Action executive director Marty Irby, who lobbied on behalf of the bill and testified before Congress in January, called it “the biggest gain for horses in half a century.” The National Thoroughbred Racing Association said it’s “historic legislation that will establish national standards to promote fairness and increase safety in thoroughbred racing nationwide.” It will be up to the horse racing industry to figure out how to pay for new standardized testing and enforcement, but states already spend roughly $30 million annually in that department. O’Rourke, whose state hosts over 200 days of live racing annually and the Belmont Stakes, expects the bill to provide the “strongest antidoping authority the sport has ever seen” at a critical time. “With the independent enforcement of uniform rules, I think it will be an absolute game changer for the sport if ultimately it’s put in place

5 Tips to Get Your Horse to Drink More Water During Winter

By Dr. Tania Cubitt Standlee Nutritional Expert - Performance Horse Nutrition

Water is the most essential aspect of any horse’s diet. Without adequate water intake, horses will not survive. An adult horse (1000 lbs.) in a cool, comfortable environment that is not working, or lactating, needs a minimum of seven to

ten gallons of fresh, clean water every day. The amount of water required is closely related to the amount of feed the horse has eaten. Most horses will drink 1.5 quarts of water per pound of dry feed intake. If a horse is consuming 20 pounds of dry hay per day, the horse would be expected to drink approximately 7.5 gallons of water each day. The water requirement is higher if the horse is in

training, nursing a foal, growing, pregnant or in a hot/humid environment. The best way to ensure adequate water intake is to always provide free access to fresh, clean water. Issues associated with water intake during the winter months usually revolve around horses not drinking enough water. Water that has frozen or is near freezing will result in decreased intake. Water consumption

reaches its maximum when the temperature is maintained between 45 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Similarly, horses that must eat snow as their only water source, will not eat enough snow to satisfy their necessary water requirement completely. This decreased water intake can result in digestive upset or "colic," associated with feed material becoming impacted (stuck) in the digestive system. Therefore, the water source should be free-flowing or heated to prevent freezing and guarantee the horse is drinking enough water. When installing a heating device for water, be certain that any electrical unit is properly grounded to prevent electrical shock of the horse. Horses are very sensitive to electrical shock and will quit drinking to avoid shock. Here are few easy tips to assist with increasing your horse’s water intake: 1. Wet your horse’s feed at a ratio of 2 parts feed to 1 part water. This can increase the hydration status of your horse. 2. Offer a wet mash, every day, of soaked beet pulp shreds or pellets, timothy forage pellets or alfalfa forage pellets. If you are concerned about adding too many calories to an overweight horse’s diet, try soaking and offering teff forage pellets. Soak these forage or fiber sources at a ratio of 2 parts water to 1 part forage. 3. Wetting down the longstemmed hay you offer your horse can also boost water intake slightly. 4. Flavoring your horse’s water can also encourage water intake, especially if you are traveling and have a picky drinker. 5. Provide a salt block in your horse’s paddock or stall to help stimulate thirst. Horses primarily eating hay will consume more water than those eating both hay and grain. Fiber increases the water holding capacity of the hindgut.

FEI appoints new Jumping Director

Marco Fuste (ESP), one of the best known figures on the international Jumping circuit, has been appointed as Jumping Director for the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), the global governing body for equestrian sports. Mr Fuste has been Director of Jumping at the Spanish Equestrian Federation and chef d’equipe of the Spanish Jumping team since 2006. He will take up

the new role at the FEI on 1 February 2021 and his first task will be a full revision of the FEI Jumping Rules. He replaces interim Jumping Director Deborah Riplinger, who will remain at FEI Headquarters until the end of June next year to ensure an optimal handover. “To be appointed as FEI director jumping Director is absolutely my dream job,” Marco Fuste said. “Horses and equestrian

sport, particularly Jumping, have been a part of my life for so long and I see this new role as the pinnacle of my career. Jumping is already the FEI’s largest discipline and, while I know the challenges involved, I also see great opportunity for further expansion, particularly in South America, so that we can develop the sport more broadly. I can’t wait to get started.” His

Champion potential to make PBR history begins in Ocala

when the 2021 Unleash The Beast: American Roots Edition begins on Jan. 16 in Ocala, Florida. The two-day PBR Monster Energy Invitational is the beginning of the 2021 premier series, and it will be Leme’s first event back in the United States since he returned home to Brazil for the offseason. Leme ended 2020 with a league-high seven UTB event wins, 16 round victories and a leaguebest 67.69% riding average (44-for-65). The 24-year-old may have won his first world title in 2020, but he has been one of the best bull riders in the world since winning the PBR World Finals in 2017. Leme missed two events in the first half because of broken ribs, but he otherwise was fully healthy in 2020. Leme also may be prepped to handle the mental grind that comes with being the defending World Champion seeing as he spent the final seven and a half months of the 2020 season as the No. 1 bull rider in the world.

By: Justin Felisko, courtesy PBR For the last few years, it seemed at times as if a black, ominous cloud has hovered over the defending World Champion. The pursuit of a historic second gold buckle seemed to be a distinct possibility for Jess Lockwood in 2020 before he sustained a careerthreatening torn left hamstring at the beginning of March that would keep him out of competition for six months. Two years earlier, Lockwood’s first attempt at winning back-to-back world titles ground to a halt when he tore his groin in the summer.

During that time, Leme became the focal point of interview requests, spending a fair amount of time discussing his previous world title shortcomings, and he was the sole focus for every rider in the world attempting to run him down. Therefore, Leme may be well-seasoned to handle the added attention and responsibility of being the champ. Alves may be the only successful back-to-back World Champion so far in PBR history, but two previous world title winners were close to defending their thrones in the last five years. Two-time World Champion J.B. Mauney, as well as 2016 World Champion Cooper Davis, finished third in the world standings during their title defenses.

7 to be inducted into APHA Hall of Fame in 2021

The APHA Hall of Fame is gaining seven new inductees in 2021. The ceremony honoring those below will take place February 27, 2021, during the APHA Convention in the Fort Worth Stockyards (plans subject to modification due to COVID restrictions, should the need arise). Each inductee will receive an official APHA Hall of Fame Paint Horse statue designed by artist Clay Gant of Cowboy Bronze.

Since its founding in 2012, the APHA Hall of Fame has honored the legendary people and Paint Horses that exemplify what it means to be a part of the APHA family. Whether it was through successes in the show ring or advocating for the Paint Horse across different platforms, to be inducted in the APHA Hall of Fame is an honor that a select few can claim as their

own. Permanent recognition for all Hall of Fame inductees can be found at the new APHA Headquarters in the Fort Worth Stockyards. “This year’s large class of Hall of Fame inductees represents exceptional horses and their contributions to the Paint Horse breed, along with some outstanding individuals who have left their mark on APHA,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said.

Ike has been an integral part of US Equestrian’s success and growth since 1989, working extensively with the USEF Sport Department. She has managed countless responsibilities and held numerous titles throughout her tenure, including Chef de Mission, Discipline Director of Eventing, Managing Director of Jumping, and Director of Vaulting Activities. She also served as the jumping team leader for every Olympic Games, Pan American Games, FEI World Equestrian Games, and FEI World Cup Finals from 1990 through 2008. An accomplished equestrian, Ike successfully competed at the Burghley Horse Trials in 1967 and completed the 1968 Badminton Horse Trials on Evening Mail, earning an Olympic team nomination. She was selected as a non-traveling reserve for the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games. Ike's many roles also have included course designer, technical delegate, steward, and judge at numerous three-day events across the country, as well as managing the jumping department and traveling around the world with top international U.S. Jumping teams. 98

Lucy Enns 2020 Junior Equestrian of the Year

Ike has always been a welcoming and dependable supporter of all equestrian disciplines. Her pledge to ensure the success of US Equestrian’s teams and programs has left a lasting impression not only on the disciplines she has been so deeply tied to throughout her career, but also on those she has mentored and worked with over the years.

Junior Equestrian of the Year

Lucy Enns has participated in the equestrian industry both in the arena and in its governance. Enns was a finalist in the American Morgan Horse Association Youth of the Year contest in 2019 and 2020 and currently serves on the AMHA Youth Council as Vice President of Central Region. She is an accomplished young driver, earning five top-10 finishes with her mare Mabelene at the 2020 Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show. She has also tried her hand at officiating, participating in multiple AMHA youth judging clinics. Enns started at Friends University in Wichita, Kan., this past August and intends to start her own Morgan breeding program in the future. She competed at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show for the first time in 2008 in the leadline class. Six-year-old Enns was starstruck watching the show horses proudly move around the arena that night and was determined to become one of those competitors. Enns faced many obstacles on her way to that goal. Her four older siblings all have some form of disability, so Enns always prioritized family and understood that her equestrian dreams would rely on hard work and her characteristic independence. She worked at her barn, the Wichita Riding Academy, and volunteered at local shows, observing people and learning about their training methods. She quickly learned that difficult decisions are part of life with horses when two of her competition horses got sick and ultimately needed to be put down. Enns tried out many different disciplines to find what Mabelene loved to do. They finally found their niche in 2020 when Enns started training “Mabel” to drive with the support of Jim McCune. Everything fell into place at the Morgan Grand National where the pair earned third place in the Carriage Pleasure Driving Single World Championship.

ASK Michelle Shelton, Horse Property Specialist

AskMichelleShelton.com

Q. When I sell my horse property, I have to move all my animals. My friend told me a buyer can back out all the way up to three days prior to the close of escrow. How can this be avoided?

Michelle: Your friend is correct! Many REALTORS® don’t consider this and then you are stuck with your stuff in a POD or all boxed up and now your home is back on the market! I have been selling horse property since 2004 and this

is always a problem for folks with animals. Emma and I have several different strategies we can discuss with you to make sure our sellers don’t find themselves in a situation like that. Q. What if I have fencing, panels, mats or other

horse stuff I don’t want to sell with my home, can I take them with me? Michelle: Yes! This is where a great REALTOR® will pay attention to the details of what YOU want. Putting something in the MLS doesn’t mean a thing! It has to be on the contract. We make sure you don’t have to give up the things that are important to you. Q. How do I select a great horse property specialist? Michelle: With Team Shelton you get a full time Listing Coordinator who works closely with you on the details of staging, signage, lockboxes, photos, videos and aerial shots. You get one on one attention and two agents for the price of one. Emma is a super smart and wicked funny young woman who is a lot of fun to be around. Your selling experience should be a lot less stressful with Team Shelton than it is with other REALTORS.
